The discipline of Jehovah (Job), Chapter 1.2: Job was trusting in the sovereignty and wisdom of Jehovah (12:1 - 20:29)

¶Complement Zophar: The portion of a wicked man from God is utter destruction, like you, Job (20:1 - 29)

Comments: This study will survey Job Chapter 1.2. In my opinion, it would serve little purpose to examine this important document in the Bible paragraph by paragraph. Unless you are a very mature believer, this kind of study would be very hard to absorb.

What I will do is provide the golden ratio design for each chapter, and examine the most important texts. This will provide a good starting point for your own study of Job on your own time. But you need the golden ratio design to help you understand each chapter! If you use someone else’s outline, it will only lead to confusion, believe me.

Let’s look at the golden ratio outline of this chapter and also the key texts within each paragraph; this will help you to see that the outline is based on the Bible text; and therefore that the golden ratio design is based on the Bible text.

§Unique Introduction: Job: You are mocking a just man; hold your peace, that I may speak (12:1 - 13:16)

¶Opposite Job: You are mocking a just, upright man (12:1 - 25)

Job 12:4: “I am as one mocked by his neighbor, who calls upon God, and instead he answers him; the just upright man is laughed to scorn.

Comments: Job says that he is like a man that is praying in his house to God; his neighbor hears him, and pretends to be God and answers him with his voice. He is sincere in his heart with God, but his neighbor (the friends of Job) are mocking him.

¶Opposite Job: Hold your peace, that I may speak (13:1 - 16)

Job 13:13-16: “Hold your peace; let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will. Why do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in my hand? Though he slays me, yet will I trust in him; nevertheless, I will defend my own ways before him. He also shall be my salvation: for a hypocrite shall not come before him.”

§Complement Body: Job’s friends deride him; Job complains that he has done nothing wrong (13:17 - 18:21)

¶Opposite Job to God: Show me where I have sinned (13:17 - 14:12)

Job 13:23-28: “How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me to know my transgression and my sin. Why do you hide your face, and hold me for your enemy? Will you break a leaf driven back and forth? And will you pursue the dry stubble? For you write bitter things against me, and make me to possess the iniquities of my youth. You also put my feet in the stocks, and look narrowly to all my paths; you set a print upon the heels of my feet. And he, as a rotten thing, consumes, as a garment that is moth eaten.”

Comments: Job talks to God, and asks: “How many sins have I committed?”

¶Opposite Job to God: You number my steps and watch over my sin (14:13 - 22)

Job 14:16-17: “For now you number my steps. Do you not watch over my sin? My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and you cover up my iniquity.”

Comments: Job accuses God of watching every step that he takes, and taking account of every sin that he commits.

¶Complement Eliphaz: What makes you think that you are wiser than we are? (15:1 - 35)

Job 15:1-10: “Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said, “Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind? Should he reason with unprofitable talk, or with speeches with which he can do no good? Moreover, you cast off fear, and restrain prayer before God: for your mouth utters your iniquity, and you choose the tongue of the crafty. Your own mouth condemns you, and not I; moreover, your own lips testify against you. Are you the first man that was born? Or were you made before the hills? Have you heard the secret of God? And do you restrain wisdom to yourself? What do you know, that we do not know? What do you understand, which is not in us? With us are both the gray-headed and very ancient men, much older than your father.

Comments: Eliphaz accused Job of being a hardened sinner who refuses to pray, and whose mouth was filled with iniquity and craftiness! We have men with us who are very old and ancient, “much older than your father”. This is doubtless a reference to the presence of descendants of Noah and his three sons: Shem, Ham, and Japheth; all of whom lived to be anywhere from 200 to 430 years old (Genesis 11:10-26).

Of course, this was a ridiculous accusation. The fact that Job disagreed with them did not mean that he was a hardened sinner who didn’t pray!

¶Complement Job: God has delivered me to the ungodly (16:1 - 17:16)

Job 16:9-20: “He tears me in his wrath, who hates me; he gnashes upon me with his teeth. My enemy sharpens his eyes upon me. They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me. God has delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over to the hands of the wicked. I was at ease, but he has broken me in pieces; also he has taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his target. His archers surround me; he cuts my reins in pieces, and does not spare; he pours out my gall upon the ground. He breaks me with breach upon breach; he runs upon me like a giant. I have sewn sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust. My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids are the shadow of death; but not for any injustice in my hands; also my prayer is pure. O Earth, cover not my blood, and let my cry have no place. Also now, behold, my witness is in Heaven, and my record is on high. My friends scorn me, but my eye pours out tears to God.”

Comments: Job was in despair; yet he hoped in God, and he knew that he had done nothing worng.

¶Unique Bildad: The wicked will be cursed and chased out of the world (18:1 - 21)

Job 18:5-21: “Moreover, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. The steps of his strength shall be narrowed; and his own counsel shall cast him down: for he is cast into a net by his own feet; and he walks upon a snare. The net shall take him by the heel; and the robber shall prevail against him. The snare is laid for him in the ground, and a trap for him in the way. Terrors shall make him afraid on every side, and shall drive him to his feet. His strength shall be starved; and destruction shall be ready at his side. It shall devour the strength of his skin; even the firstborn of death shall devour his strength. His confidence shall be rooted out of his tabernacle, and it shall bring him to the king of terrors. It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because it is none of his. Brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation. His roots shall be dried up from beneath; and above shall his branch be cut off. His remembrance shall perish from the Earth; and he shall have no name in the street. He shall be driven from light into darkness, and chased out of the world. He shall have neither son nor nephew among his people, nor any remaining in his dwellings. They that come after him shall be astonished at his day, as they that went before were afraid. Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked; and this is the place of him that does not know God.”

Comments: The accusation of Bildad: Here is what happens to the wicked, Job. It has happened to you; therefore, you must be wicked and you don’t really know God!

§Complement Conclusion: Job: I know that my Redeemer lives; Zophar: The portion of a wicked man is destruction (19:1 - 20:29)

¶Complement Job: I know that my Redeemer lives (19:1 - 29)

Job 19:23-27: “O that my words were now written! O that they were printed in a book! That they were inscribed with an iron pen and lead in the rock forever! For I know that my Redeemer lives, and that he shall stand at the Latter Day upon the Earth. And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God; whom I shall see for myself; and my eyes shall behold him, and not another, though my reins are consumed within me.”

Comments: Job is beginning to triumph over the verbal attacks of his friends; his hope is in his Redeemer, and in the future, he knows that he will rise again to be with his God.

¶Complement Zophar: The portion of a wicked man from God is utter destruction, like you, Job (20:1 - 29)

Job 20:19-29: “Because he has oppressed and forsaken the poor; and because he has violently taken away a house which he did not build, surely he shall not know peace in his heart; he shall not save any of that which he desired. None of his food shall be left; therefore no man shall look for his goods. In the fullness of his sufficiency he shall be in distress; every hand of the wicked shall come upon him. When he is about to fill his belly, God shall cast the fury of his wrath upon him, and shall rain it upon him while he eats. He shall flee from the iron weapon; and the bow of steel shall strike him through. It is drawn, and comes out of the body; moreover, the glittering sword comes out of his gall; terrors are upon him. All darkness shall be hidden in his secret places. A fire not blown shall consume him; it shall go ill with him that is left in his tabernacle. The heaven shall reveal his iniquity; and the earth shall rise up against him. The increase of his house shall depart, and his property shall flow away in the day of his wrath. This is the portion of a wicked man from God, and the heritage appointed to him by God.”

Comments: Once again, Zophar uses a similar attack like Bildad: This is what happens to a wicked man, Job! He will lose everything that he owns, just like you! Therefore, this proves that you are a wicked man, Job!

Conclusion

In Chapter 1.2, Job knows that he has done nothing wrong to deserve the terrible tragedy that has happened to him; yet he still trusted in God, and he trusted in the sovereignty and wisdom of Jehovah God his Redeemer.

HOW TO BE SAVED

Jesus Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life! No man comes to the Father, but through Him! Repent of your false religion and false god, and place all of your hope for Heaven and forgiveness from sin in the Finished Atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross 2,000 years ago! Jesus calls you to come to Him, believe that He is the Son of God who died on the cross for all of your sins, and who rose up from the dead on the third day, victorious over sin, death, Hell, and the grave! Amen.

John 8:12: “Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the Light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the Light of Life.”

Matthew 11:27-30: “All things are delivered to me by my Father; and no man knows the Son, but the Father; neither does any man know the Father, except the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Come unto me, all you that labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me: for I am meek and lowly in heart. And you shall find rest to your souls: for my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

John 3:16-17: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.”

Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Here is a prayer that you can use to repent and receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Comentarios: Este estudio hará un repaso del Capítulo 1.2 de Job. En mi opinión, no serviría de mucho examinar este documento importante de la Biblia párrafo por párrafo. A menos que seas un creyente muy maduro, este tipo de estudio sería muy difícil de absorber y comprender.

Comentarios: Job dice que es como un hombre que ora en su casa a Dios; su vecino lo oye, y se hace pasar por Dios y le responde con su voz. Él es sincero en su corazón con Dios, pero su vecino (los amigos de Job) se burlan de él.

¶Lo opuesto Job: Callad para que pueda hablar (13:1 - 16)

Job 13:13-16: “Callaos, dejadme y hablaré yo, y que venga sobre mí lo que viniere. ¿Por qué quitaré yo mi carne con mis dientes, y pondré mi alma en mi mano? Aunque él me mate, confiaré en él; no obstante, defenderé delante de él mis caminos. Él también será mi salvación: porque no entrará en su presencia el hipócrita”.

Comentarios: Job habla con Dios y le pregunta: “¿Cuántos pecados he cometido?”

¶Lo opuesto Job a Dios: Tú numeras mis pasos y vigilas mi pecado (14:13 - 22)

Job 14:16-17: “Ahora cuentas mis pasos, ¿no vigilas mi pecado? Mi transgresión está sellada en una bolsa, y tú encubres mi iniquidad”.

Comentarios: Job acusa a Dios de vigilar cada paso que da y de tomar nota de cada pecado que comete.

¶El complemento Elifaz: ¿Qué te hace pensar que eres más sabio que nosotros? (15:1 - 35)

Job 15:1-10: “Entonces respondió Elifaz el temanita, y dijo, “¿Debe el sabio proferir conocimientos vanos y llenar su vientre con el viento del este? ¿Disputará con palabras inútiles, y con discursos con los que no puede hacer ningún bien? Además, tú desechas el temor, y reprime la oración delante de Dios: porque tu boca habla de tu iniquidad, y escoges la lengua de los astutos. Tu boca te condenará, y no yo; y tus labios testificarán contra ti. ¿Naciste tú primero que Adán? ¿O fuiste formado antes que las colinas? ¿Oíste tú el secreto de Dios, que detienes en ti solo la sabiduría? ¿Qué sabes tú que no sepamos? ¿Qué entiendes que no se halle en nosotros? Entre nosotros también hay cabezas canas y hombres viejos, mucho más ancianos que tu padre”.

Comentarios: Elifaz acusó a Job de ser un pecador empedernido que se niega a orar y cuya boca estaba llena de iniquidad y astucia. Tenemos con nosotros hombres que son muy viejos y ancianos, “mucho mayores que su padre”. Sin duda, esto es una referencia a la presencia de descendientes de Noé y sus tres hijos: Sem, Cam y Jafet; todos los cuales vivieron entre 200 y 430 años (Génesis 11:10-26).

Por supuesto, era una acusación ridícula. El hecho que Job no estuviera de acuerdo con ellos no significaba que fuera un pecador empedernido que no oraba.

¶El complemento Job: Dios me ha entregado a los impíos (16:1 - 17:16)

Job 16:9-20: “Su furor me despedazó, y me ha sido contrario; crujió sus dientes contra mí; contra mí aguzó sus ojos mi enemigo. Próspero estaba, y me desmenuzó; y me arrebató por la cerviz y me despedazó, y me puso por blanco suyo. Me rodearon sus arqueros, partió mis riñones, y no perdonó; mi hiel derramó por tierra. Me quebrantó de quebranto sobre quebranto; corrió contra mí como un gigante. Yo cosí cilicio sobre mi piel, y hundí mi cabeza en el polvo. Mi rostro está hinchado con el lloro, y mis párpados entenebrecidos; a pesar de no haber iniquidad en mis manos, y de haber sido mi oración pura. ¡Oh Tierra! no cubras mi sangre, y no haya lugar a mi clamor. Pero he aquí que en los Cielo está mi testigo, y mi testimonio en las alturas. Mis amigos me escarnecen; mis ojos derramarán lágrimas ante Dios”.

Comentarios: Job se desesperó; sin embargo, esperaba en Dios y sabía que no había hecho nada malo.

¶Único Bildad: Los malvados serán maldecidos y expulsados del mundo (18:1 - 21)

Job 18:5-21: “Ciertamente la luz de los impíos será apagada, y no resplandecerá la centella de su fuego. La luz se oscurecerá en su tienda, y se apagará sobre él su lámpara. Los pasos de su vigor serán acortados, y lo precipitará su propio consejo: porque red será echada a sus pies, y sobre mallas andará. Lazo prenderá su calcañar; se afirmará la trampa contra él. Su cuerda está escondida en la tierra, y hay una trampa para él en la senda. De todas partes lo asombrarán temores, y le harán huir desconcertado. Su fuerza será azotada por el hambre, y a su lado estará preparado quebrantamiento. El primogénito de la muerte devorará la fuerza de su piel, y devorará sus miembros. Su confianza será arrancada de su tienda, y le conducirá esto, al rey de los espantos. En su tienda morará como si no fuese suya; piedra azufre será esparcida sobre su morada. Abajo se secarán sus raíces, y arriba serán cortadas sus ramas. Su memoria perecerá de la Tierra, y no tendrá nombre por las calles. Serán arrojados de la luz a las tinieblas, y expulsados del mundo. No tendrá hijo ni nieto en su pueblo, ni quien le suceda en sus moradas. Los que vengan a él, ese día se espantarán, como fueron espantados los que vinieron antes. Ciertamente tales son las moradas de los impíos; y este es el lugar del que no conoce a Dios”.

Comentario: La acusación de Bildad: Esto es lo que les sucede a los malvados, Job. Te ha sucedido a ti; por lo tanto, ¡debes ser malvado y no conoces realmente a Dios!

¶El complemento Job: Sé que mi Redentor vive (19:1 - 29)

Job 19:23-27: “¡Oh, que mis palabras ahora estaban escritas! ¡Oh, que estuvieran ahora impresos en un libro! ¡Que fueron inscritos con una pluma de hierro y plomo en la roca para siempre! Porque yo sé que mi Redentor vive, y que él estará de pie en el último día sobre la Tierra. Y aunque después de que los gusanos de mi piel destruyan este cuerpo, en mi carne he de ver a Dios; al cual he de ver por mí mismo, y mis ojos lo verán, y no otro, aunque mis riendas se consuman dentro de mí”.

Comentarios: Job está comenzando a triunfar sobre los ataques verbales de sus amigos; su esperanza está en su Redentor, y en el futuro, sabe que resucitará para estar con su Dios.

¶El complemento Zofar: La porción de un hombre malvado de Dios es la destrucción total, como tú, Job (20:1 - 29)

Job 20:19-29: “Por cuanto quebrantó y desamparó a los pobres, y robó casas que él no edificó. Por tanto, no sentirá él sosiego en su vientre, ni salvará nada de lo que codiciaba. No quedó nada que no comiese; por tanto, su bien no será duradero. En la plenitud de su prosperidad, tendrá estrechez; la mano de todos los malvados vendrá sobre él. Cuando se pusiere a llenar su vientre, Dios enviará sobre él el furor de su ira, y la hará llover sobre él y sobre su comida. Huirá de las armas de hierro, pero el arco de acero le atravesará. Se dibuja y sale del cuerpo; además, de su hiel sale una espada resplandeciente; los terrores están sobre él. Todas las tinieblas estarán guardadas en sus lugares secretos; fuego no atizado lo devorará, y le irá mal al que quede en su tabernáculo. Los cielos descubrirán su iniquidad, y la tierra se levantará contra él. El aumento de su casa se apartará; y su propiedad se esfumará en el día de su ira. Esta es la porción de hombre malvado desde Dios, y la herencia que le fue asignada por Dios”.

Comentarios: Una vez más, Zofar usa un ataque similar al de Bildad: ¡Esto es lo que le sucede a un hombre malvado, Job! ¡Él perderá todo lo que posee, igual que tú! ¡Por lo tanto, esto demuestra que eres un hombre malvado, Job!

Conclusión

En el capítulo 1.2, Job sabe que no ha hecho nada malo para merecer la terrible tragedia que le ha sucedido; pero él todavía confiaba en Dios, y confiaba en la soberanía y sabiduría de Jehová Dios su Redentor.

COMO SER SALVADO

Jesucristo es el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida. ¡Nadie llega al Padre sino por medio de Él! ¡Arrepiéntete de tu falsa religión y de tu falso dios, y pon toda tu esperanza de Cielo y de perdón de pecados en la Expiación Terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz hace 2.000 años! Jesús te llama a que vengas a Él, a que creas que Él es el Hijo de Dios que murió en la cruz por todos tus pecados, y que resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día, ¡victorioso sobre el pecado, la muerte, el infierno y la tumba! Amén.

Juan 8:12: “Y otra vez Jesús les habló, diciendo, ‘Soy la luz del mundo; el que me sigue, no andará en tinieblas, pero tendrá la Luz de la Vida’”.

Mateo 11:27-30: “Todas las cosas me son entregadas por mi Padre; y nadie conoce al Hijo, sino el Padre, ni nadie conoce al Padre, sino el Hijo, y aquel a quien el Hijo lo quisiere revelar. Venid a mí, todos ustedes que trabajan y están muy agobiados, y yo os daré descansar. Llevad mi yugo sobre ustedes, y aprended de mí, porque soy manso y humilde de corazón; y hallaréis descanso para vuestras almas: porque mi yugo es fácil, y ligera es mi carga”.

Juan 3:16-17: “Porque Dios amó tanto al mundo, que él dio a su Hijo unigénito, que cualquiera que cree en él no deberían perecer, sino tener Vida Eterna. Porque Dios no envió a su Hijo al mundo para condenar al mundo; pero que a través de él, el mundo podría salvarse”.

Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque está escrito, “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.

Aquí hay una oración que puedes usar para arrepentirte y recibir a Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra TÚ. ¡No soy bueno y tú eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
