Romans, Chapter 2.5: The sanctification of believers through the Assembly of Jesus Christ (12:1 - 16:27)

Introduction

The design of the golden ratio for the second paragraph of the introduction (OO-CCU) is the opposite of that of the first paragraph of the introduction (UCC-OO). This is the same design found in almost every chapter of all the documents in Division One of the Bible (The Kingdom Bible Study (KSB)).

The second division is the Psalms, which have a similar but slightly different focus. Read the PDF Kingdom Study Bible (KSB) Appendix for more information.

First of all, notice that the Golden Ratio design of the five paragraphs in the Body section is “Two opposites, two complements, and one unique”.

This is significant, because the two opposites are always distantly related to the content in the two complements and one unique group; and yet, they are all linked together by the Golden Ratio design; and their themes have related content.

Notice that all of these paragraph themes are tailored to give instructions to believers in Jesus Christ regarding what they should be doing in their Christian lives.

In the Introduction section, we saw in the previous studies that Paul focused on basic Christian sanctification; that is to say, how to grow spiritually and mature as a believer.

In the Body section, Paul focused on issues that believers often face in their Christian lives and how to deal with them.

In the first two paragraphs that follow, Paul focused on the relationship of believers with human government in the first paragraph; and personal spiritual motivations in the second (we will study the second paragraph in the next study).

Unique “Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities: for there is no authority but of God; the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whosoever resists the authority, resists the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves.

Complement “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you, then, not be afraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you shall have praise of the same: for he is the minister of God to you for good.

Complement “But if you do what is evil, be afraid: for he does not carry the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.”

Opposite “Therefore, it is necessary to be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For this reason also, you pay taxes, because they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

Opposite “Therefore, give to all what is owed: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.

Human government is an extension of the authority of God

Comments: Human government is an extension of God Himself! This is the message of Paul in this paragraph. Yes, even pagan, wicked, ungodly kings, presidents, and princes are extensions of the authority of God Almighty.

How can this be? Can a wicked ruler represent a Holy God? Not directly! However, God wants law and order within his creation, so that peace and prosperity will be fostered. Anarchy is abhorrent to God!

But the creation of God has rebelled against its Creator, and the kings and princes of the Earth have banded together against God!

Psalm 2:1-3: “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth rise up in rebellion; and the rulers conspire together against Jehovah, and against his Christ, saying, “Let us break their bands apart, and cast their cords away from us.”

Ideally, the Kingdom of Zion (as in the Garden of Eden, and in the Millennial Kingdom of Christ) is characterized by absolute law and order, because in those situations, God was (or will be) dwelling on the Earth; and in the Garden of Eden, sin did not exist in the human race yet; and in the Millennial Kingdom of Christ, sin will be restrained during this time period until the end, when there will be a massive rebellion against God; and the rebels will be consumed by fire from Heaven.

And in the Final State, after the Millennial Kingdom (Revelation 21), sin will be confined to the sinners and the devil and his angels in the Lake of Fire; and the New Heaven and the New Earth will be absolutely pure from all sin! Amen (I’m looking forward to that! Hallelujah!).

But in the time periods between the Garden of Eden and the Millennial Kingdom, sin has been allowed to grow and take deep root in the human race. Nonetheless, God still desires law and order, even if it is imposed by evil people, because (as a general principle) order is always preferable to chaos.

These wicked kings, presidents, and rulers will all give an account to God Almighty for the way that they abused the authority that God gave to them over their people: their evil works, their unjust wars, and the evil things that they did:

Revelation 20:11-15: "And I saw a Great White Throne, and him that sat on it; from whose face the earth and the Heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the Books were opened; and another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the Books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and Hell delivered up the dead which were in them; and they were judged every man according to their works. And Death and Hell were cast into the Lake of Fire: this is the second death; and whosoever was not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the Lake of Fire."

The apostles Paul and Peter taught that we must submit to all human authorities

So how did Paul teach Christians to relate to human government, even the evil Roman empire that openly worshipped many gods? To be subject to them and to obey them!

Romans 13:1-2: “Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities: for there is no authority but of God; the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whosoever resists the authority, resists the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves.” See also 1 Peter 2:13-17 below.

Even the evil Roman emperors abhorred chaos; and they enforced their laws with the threat of death by the sword, or by crucifixion, or by imprisonment. Paul counseled Christians to obey their laws, as long as they did not contradict the commands of Jesus Christ.

Divine Law is supreme over all human laws

But Christians should not obey laws that contradict the Law of God! Amen.

God has given specific laws that we must obey as his children, such as you shall not murder, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, and so on. If a nation makes a law that orders its citizens to disobey the will of God in his Law, then we must disobey that human law!

Acts 5:29: “Then Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, ‘WE SHOULD OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MEN.’”

For example, Jesus has commanded that the Gospel must be preached to every part of the Earth in his Great Commission.

Matthew 28:19-20: “‘Therefore go, and train disciples out of all nations; baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you. And, lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the Age.’ Amen.”

Human governments and kings have no authority or power to stop the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ! Amen.

However, any law that does not contradict the Word of God should be obeyed for a good testimony in the eyes of the Lost.

1 Peter 2:13-17: “Therefore SUBMIT YOURSELVES TO ALL HUMAN AUTHORITY FOR THE LORD’S SAKE: whether it is to the king, as supreme; or to governors, as to them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well: for this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men; as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of evil, but as the servants of God. Honor all men; love the brethren; fear God; honor the king.”

The Lord Jesus taught that we should submit ourselves to human government and pay taxes

The Lord Jesus also said something similar about paying taxes:

Matthew 17:24-27: “And when they came to Capernaum, they that received tax money came to Peter, and said, ‘Does your master not pay Temple tax?’ He says, ‘Yes.’ And when he came into the house, Jesus forestalled him, saying, ‘What do you think, Simon? Of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or taxes? Of their own children, or of strangers?’ Peter says to him, ‘Of strangers.’ Jesus says to him, ‘Then the children [of God] are free. Notwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go to the sea; and cast a hook; and take up the fish that first comes up. And when you have opened his mouth, you shall find a stater coin. Take that, and give it to them for both you and me.’”

In other words, Jesus (who is God in the flesh) is the true King of the Earth; and his disciples (which are his children) are not subject to taxation by lesser authorities such as human governments! Nevertheless, Jesus paid the Temple tax and gave enough for both Him and Peter as a sign of his willing subjection to the human government that God had ordained for that time in history, even though Jesus was God and had every right to reject the lesser claims of human government over Him!

Peter also wrote about this in his first letter:

1 Peter 2:11-17: “Dearly beloved, I urge you, as strangers and pilgrims: abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; having your behavior among the Gentiles noble; so that (whereas they speak against you as evildoers) they might (by your good works which they see) glorify God in the day of visitation. Therefore SUBMIT YOURSELVES TO ALL HUMAN AUTHORITY FOR THE LORD’S SAKE: whether it is to the king, as supreme; or to governors, as to them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well: for this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men; as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of evil, but as the servants of God. Honor all men; love the brethren; fear God; honor the king.”

The Lord Jesus and the apostles were not communist revolutionaries!

Do the words of Jesus and Peter read like the words of Karl Marx? Of course not! But if you listen to many liberals and communists, especially many Jesuits in South America, you might believe that Jesus was a “revolutionary” who wants Christians to rise up against our oppressors with the sword or with guns!

But this is not the message of the Bible! Instead, God demands that believers in Jesus Christ submit themselves to all human authority (police, judges, politicians, presidents, kings), so that we might be able to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ with a good testimony!

1 Peter 2:15-16: “for this is the will of God, that by doing good you may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men; as free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of evil, but as the servants of God.”

In other words, for believers in Jesus Christ, everything in this life that is important for sinners must be set aside, so that our lives can be focused on one goal and purpose: take the Gospel to the entire world, according to the Great Commission of Jesus Christ:

Matthew 28:19-20: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, ‘All authority has been given me in Heaven and in Earth. ‘Therefore go, and train disciples out of all nations; baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things, whatsoever I have commanded you. And, lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the Age.’ Amen.”

The Great Commission of Jesus overrides all human laws and authorities!

In communist countries where there is little freedom and a police state, Christians should pay taxes and obey their government, but in the matter of preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ, they must DISOBEY their government and continue preaching the Gospel, no matter what!

Why? Because the Great Commission is the most important command of the Lord Jesus Christ! His Great Commission is superior to all human authority on Earth! Amen.

Acts 5:27b -29: “And the high priest asked them, saying, ‘Did not we strictly command you that you should not teach in this Name? And, behold, you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching, and intend to bring this man’s blood upon us.’ Then Peter and the other Apostles answered and said, ‘WE SHOULD OBEY GOD RATHER THAN MEN.’”

2 Timothy 2:8-10: “Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my Gospel; in which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even unto chains. BUT THE WORD OF GOD IS NOT CHAINED; therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.”

The Lord Jesus, the apostle Paul, and the other apostles were not interested in, nor did they teach that Christians should rise up in rebellion against authority, whether that is with sword or guns. This is NOT the teaching of the Bible! The only exception to this rule was the Gospel of Jesus Christ: we must spread the Gospel to all corners of the Earth to bring sinners to faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior, no matter what! Amen.

Capital punishment is the will of God

The Apostle Paul was a supporter of Capital punishment! Under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, he wrote,

Romans 13:3-4: “For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you, then, not be afraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you shall have praise of the same: for he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid: for he does not carry the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.”

Those who teach against capital punishment (the death penalty) are in rebellion against the Word of God! The death penalty was taught by the Law of Moses, and the Apostles never opposed it. In this text, Paul gave tacit support for the death penalty.

Also, the Lord Jesus submitted Himself to the authority of the Roman governor Pilate to be executed. Even though the execution was unjust, since Jesus was innocent; nonetheless, it was the will of God; and by submitting Himself to the government of Rome, He acknowledged their right to use the death penalty.

Therefore, if we oppose the death penalty, we are opposing the Word of God! Amen.

It is also true that capital punishment must not be used against the innocent! This is an abomination to God and must not happen.

Exodus 23:6-7: “You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his cause; keep yourself far from a false matter. And you must not slay the innocent and righteous: for I will not justify the wicked.”

Believers must pay taxes to their government

Romans 13:5-7: “Therefore, it is necessary to be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience’ sake. For this reason also, you pay taxes, because they are God’s ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Therefore, give to all what is owed: tax to whom tax is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honor to whom honor.”

Do not listen to those who claim that Christians should not pay taxes! The Bible is VERY CLEAR that Christians must pay taxes.

Born again Christians have the divine right as children of the King of kings and Lord of lords to reject the claims of all earthly authorities. BUT, Jesus and the apostles all taught that we must pay taxes and submit ourselves to the authorities that exist over us, so that we might be able to preach the Gospel.

The only exception to this rule is the Great Commission, which overrides all human governments and laws, if they attempt to oppose the preaching of the Gospel.

It is not a sin to disobey a law or rule that man created

Finally, this is very important! If I break the speed limit on the highway, I have not broken any Law of God in the Bible; therefore, I have not sinned. The same is true for any law of human government that is not mentioned in the Bible.

Any rule that human government might create, if it is not derived from or a copy of a Law of God in the Bible, then it is not a command or law of God that would be a sin to break. The punishment for breaking a law that was made by man is the punishment written in their law. For breaking the speed limit, it is a ticket or a fine. It is not a sin.

It could be embarrassing, and it might even cost you money and jail time! But you have not sinned against God in this situation.

Some young believers in Jesus Christ have the mistaken impression that if they break the speed limit on the highway, they have sinned against God! I used to think this way also. But as I studied the Bible over many years, I came to understand that this is not Biblical: it is wrong to think this way. You are binding yourself with a law that God did not give you! Amen.

What about rules in schools or shopping centers that say, “Don’t run in the halls or corridors”? Is it a sin to run? Ha ha, of course not! It is a man-made rule only. It is not a sin to break that man-made rule! Amen.

If the school bans walking in the halls between classes, is it a sin to walk in the halls between classes? Of course not! It is a man-made rule. The punishment for breaking it is whatever the school might say; but God had nothing to do with it.

If you fail to come to a complete stop at a stop sign, have you committed a sin against God? Of course not! The stop sign is a man-made rule. The punishment is a ticket or a fine; that’s it!

It is a good testimony for Christ in the eyes of the world, if we do obey these kind of rules or man-made laws. However, we should not bind ourselves with the thought that we have somehow sinned against God if we do not obey them. Only if we break the laws of God can we have a guilty conscience:

Romans 3:19-20: “And we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to them who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and all the world may become guilty before God; therefore, by the works of the Law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

Conclusion

1) Human government is an extension of the authority of God.

2) The apostles Paul and Peter taught that we must submit to all human authorities.

3) Divine Law is supreme over all human laws.

4) The Lord Jesus taught that we should submit ourselves to human government and pay taxes.

5) The Lord Jesus and the apostles were not communist revolutionaries!

6) The Great Commission of Jesus overrides all human laws and authorities!

7) Capital punishment is the will of God.

8) Believers must pay taxes to their government.

9) It is not a sin to disobey a law or rule that man created.

How to be saved

The Bible clearly states that salvation can only be obtained if we repent and believe in Jesus Christ in order to be saved.

Luke 13:3: “I say to you, no; but, unless you repent, you will all likewise perish.”

Romans 3:21-24: “But now, the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed (being testified by the Law and the Prophets), even the righteousness of God as it is through the faith of Jesus Christ to all and on all who believe: for there is no difference: for all have sinned, and have fallen short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.”

It is impossible to keep the Law of Moses! The sole purpose of the Law of Moses (the Ten Commandments) is to make you understand that you are a sinner who has sinned against God. It cannot make you righteous in God’s eyes:

Romans 3:19-20: “And we know that whatever the Law says, it says to those who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and everyone may become guilty before God; therefore by the works of the Law no flesh shall be justified in His sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

Sins can only be paid for by the finished atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross! We cannot pay for our own sins with our suffering, neither in this life nor in the fictitious place called “Purgatory”!

Romans 3:23-26: “For all have sinned, and have fallen short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus; whom God has publicly exhibited, to be a propitiation through faith in His blood, to declare His righteousness for the remission of past sins, through the patience of God; to declare, I say, at this time his justice; that God may be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus.”

Here is how you can be truly saved TODAY, and know that you have Eternal Life, right now!

The Bible says,

“that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13

Are you ready to do that? If so, then find a place to pray privately, and pray this prayer with all of your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Tenga en cuenta que todos estos temas de párrafos están diseñados para dar instrucciones a los creyentes en Jesucristo respecto a lo que deben hacer en sus vidas cristianas.

En la sección de Introducción, vimos en los estudios anteriores que Pablo se enfocó en la santificación cristiana básica; es decir, cómo crecer espiritualmente y madurar como creyente.

En la sección del Cuerpo, Pablo se centró en los problemas que los creyentes a menudo enfrentan en sus vidas cristianas y cómo lidiar con ellos.

En los dos primeros párrafos que siguen, Pablo se centra en la relación de los creyentes con el gobierno humano en el primer párrafo; y en las motivaciones espirituales personales en el segundo (estudiaremos el segundo párrafo en el próximo estudio).

§El complemento Cuerpo: No os separéis desde ni juzgues a otros creyentes sobre cuestiones no esenciales como la comida (13:1 - 15:29)

¶Lo opuesto Sé sujeto a las leyes humanas y a las autoridades gubernamentales (13:1 - 7)

Único “Que cada alma esté sujeta a las autoridades superiores: porque no hay autoridad pero de Dios; las autoridades que existen son nombradas por Dios. Por lo tanto, cualquiera que resiste a la autoridad, resiste a la ordenanza de Dios; y los que resistan, recibirán condenación para sí mismos.

El complemento “Porque los gobernantes no son terror para las buenas obras, sino para las malas. Entonces, ¿no tendrás miedo de la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella: porque él es el ministro de Dios para ti para bien.

El complemento “Pero si tú haces lo malo, teme: porque no lleva la espada en vano: porque él es el ministro de Dios, un vengador para ejecutar la ira sobre el que hace el mal”.

Lo opuesto “Por tanto, es una necesidad estar sujetos, no sólo por la ira, sino también por causa de la conciencia. Por esta razón también, ustedes pagáis impuestos, porque ellos son los ministros de Dios, atendiendo continuamente sobre esta misma cosa.

Lo opuesto “Por lo tanto, dad a todos lo que se debe: impuesto a quien se debe impuesto; costumbre a quien costumbre; miedo a quien miedo; honrar a quien honrar”.

El gobierno humano es una extensión de la autoridad de Dios

Comentarios: ¡El gobierno humano es una extensión de Dios mismo! Éste es el mensaje de Pablo en este párrafo. Sí, incluso los reyes, presidentes y príncipes paganos, malvados e impíos son extensiones de la autoridad de Dios Todopoderoso.

¿Cómo puede ser esto posible? ¿Puede un gobernante malvado representar a un Dios Santo? ¡No directamente! Sin embargo, Dios quiere que haya ley y orden en su creación, para que se fomente la paz y la prosperidad. ¡La anarquía es aborrecible para Dios!

Pero la creación de Dios se ha rebelado contra su Creador, ¡y los reyes y príncipes de la Tierra se han unido contra Dios!

Salmo 2:1-3: “¿Por qué se enfurecen los paganos, y el pueblo piensa cosas vanas? Los reyes de la tierra se levantan en rebelión; y los príncipes conspiran juntos contra Jehová, y contra su Cristo, diciendo, “Rompamos sus ataduras, y echémosles sus cuerdas lejos de nosotros”.

Idealmente, el Reino de Sión (como en el Jardín del Edén y en el Reino milenario de Cristo) se caracteriza por la ley y el orden absoluto, porque en esas situaciones, Dios estaba (o estará) habitando en la Tierra; y en el Jardín del Edén, el pecado aún no existía en la raza humana; y en el Reino milenario de Cristo, El pecado será restringido durante este período de tiempo hasta el final, cuando habrá una rebelión masiva contra Dios; y los rebeldes serán consumidos por el fuego del Cielo.

Y en el Estado Final, después del Reino milenario (La Revelación 21), el pecado quedará confinado a los pecadores y al diablo y sus ángeles en el Lago de Fuego; ¡Y el nuevo Cielo y la nueva tierra estarán absolutamente limpios de todo pecado! Amén (¡Estoy deseando que llegue ese día! ¡Aleluya!).

Pero en los períodos de tiempo entre el Jardín del Edén y el Reino milenario, se ha permitido que el pecado crezca y eche raíces profundas en la raza humana. Sin embargo, Dios todavía desea la ley y el orden, incluso si son impuestos por personas malvadas, porque (como principio general) el orden siempre es preferible al caos.

Todos estos reyes, presidentes y gobernantes malvados rendirán cuentas a Dios Todopoderoso por la forma que abusaron de la autoridad que Dios les dio sobre el pueblo de ellos: sus malas obras, sus guerras injustas y las cosas malas que hicieron:

La Revelación 20:11-15: "Y vi un Gran Trono Blanco, y él que se sentó en ello; desde cuya cara la tierra y el Cielo huyeron lejos, y no se encontró lugar para ellos. Y vi a los muertos, grandes y pequeños, de pie ante Dios; y los libros fueron abiertos; y otro libro fue abierto, cual es el Libro de la Vida; y los muertos fueron juzgados fuera de esas cosas que estaban escritas en los libros, según sus obras. Y el mar entregó los muertos cual estaban en ello; y la muerte y el Infierno entregaron los muertos que estaban en ellos; y fueron juzgados cada uno según sus obras. Y la Muerte y el Infierno fueron arrojados al Lago de Fuego: esta es la segunda muerte; y quienquiera que no fue hallado escrito en el Libro de la Vida fue arrojado al Lago de Fuego".

Los apóstoles Pablo y Pedro enseñaron que debemos someternos a todas las autoridades humanas

Entonces, ¿cómo enseñó Pablo a los cristianos a relacionarse con el gobierno humano, incluso el malvado imperio romano que adoraba abiertamente a muchos dioses? ¡Estar sujetos a ellos y obedecerlos!

Romanos 13:1-2: “Que cada alma esté sujeta a las autoridades superiores: porque no hay autoridad pero de Dios; las autoridades que existen son nombradas por Dios. Por lo tanto, cualquiera que resiste a la autoridad, resiste a la ordenanza de Dios; y los que resistan, recibirán condenación para sí mismos”. Véase también 1 Pedro 2:13-17 más abajo.

Incluso los malvados emperadores romanos aborrecían el caos y aplicaban sus leyes con la amenaza de muerte por espada, crucifixión o prisión. Pablo aconsejó a los cristianos obedecer sus leyes, siempre y cuando no contradijeran los mandamientos de Jesucristo.

La Ley Divina es suprema sobre todas las leyes humanas

Pero los cristianos no deben obedecer leyes que contradigan la Ley de Dios. Amén.

Dios ha dado leyes específicas que debemos obedecer como sus hijos, como por ejemplo: no matarás, no robarás, no darás falso testimonio, etc. Si una nación hace una ley que ordena a sus ciudadanos desobedecer la voluntad de Dios en su Ley, ¡entonces debemos desobedecer esa ley humana!

Hechos 5:29: “Entonces Pedro y los demás apóstoles respondieron y dijeron: ‘DEBERÍAMOS OBEDECER DIOS ANTES QUE A LOS HOMBRES’”.

Por ejemplo, Jesús ha ordenado que el Evangelio debe ser predicado a todas partes de la Tierra en su Gran Comisión.

Mateo 28:19-20: “Y Jesús vino y les habló, diciendo, ‘Toda autoridad me ha sido dado en el Cielo y sobre la tierra. Por tanto, id y entrenad discípulos fuera de todas las naciones, bautizándoles en el Nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles observar todas las cosas, cualquier cosa que os he mandado. Y, he aquí, yo estoy con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin de la Edad’. Amén”.

¡Los gobiernos humanos y los reyes no tienen autoridad ni poder para detener la predicación del Evangelio de Jesucristo! Amén.

Sin embargo, cualquier ley que no contradiga la Palabra de Dios debería ser obedecido para un buen testimonio ante los ojos de los perdidos.

1 Pedro 2:13-17: “Por tanto, SOMETED USTEDES MISMOS A TODA AUTORIDAD HUMANA POR CAUSA DEL SEÑOR ustedes mismos a toda autoridad humana por causa del Señor; si es al rey, como a superior, o a los gobernadores, como a los que son enviados por él para el castigo de los malhechores, y para la alabanza de los quien hacen bien: porque esta es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el bien, ustedes podáis silenciar la ignorancia de los hombres tontos; como libre, y no usando vuestra libertad como un manto de mal, sino como los siervos de Dios. Honrad a todos; amad la hermandad; temed a Dios; honrad al rey”.

El Señor Jesús enseñó que deberíamos someternos nosotros mismos al gobierno humano y pagar impuestos

El Señor Jesús también dijo algo similar acerca del pago de impuestos:

Mateo 17:24-27: “Y cuando llegaron a Capernaúm, los que recibieron el impuesto de Temple vinieron a Pedro, diciendo, ‘¿Su maestro no paga el impuesto del templo?’. Él dijo, ‘Sí’. Y cuando entró en la casa, Jesús le anticipó, diciendo, ‘¿Qué piensas, Simon? ¿De quiénes los reyes de la tierra toman costumbres o impuestos? De sus propios hijos, o de extraños?’. Pedro le dice, “De extraños”. Jesús le dice, ‘Entonces los hijos de Dios son libres. No obstante, para que no los ofendamos, ve al mar; y echar un gancho; y tomar el pescado que primero sube. Y cuando hayas abierto su boca, encontrarás una moneda de estator. Tómalo, y dáselo a ellos para mí y para ti’”.

En otras palabras, Jesús (quien es Dios en carne) es el verdadero Rey de la Tierra; y sus discípulos (que son sus hijos) no están sujetos a impuestos por parte de autoridades menores como los gobiernos humanos. Sin embargo, Jesús pagó el impuesto del Templo y dio lo suficiente para Él y para Pedro como señal de su voluntaria sujeción al gobierno humano que Dios había ordenado para ese tiempo de la historia, ¡Aunque Jesús era Dios y tenía todo el derecho de rechazar las pretensiones menores del gobierno humano sobre Él!

Pedro también escribió sobre esto en su primera carta:

1 Pedro 2:11-17: “Amados, os suplico, como extranjeros y peregrinos: abstenerse desde las concupiscencias carnales que batallan contra el alma; teniendo tu conducta noble entre los gentiles; de modo que (mientras que hablan contra ti como malhechores) podrían (por tus buenas obras cual ven) glorificar a Dios en el día de la visitación. Por tanto, someted ustedes mismos a toda autoridad humana por causa del Señor ustedes mismos a toda autoridad humana por causa del Señor; si es al rey, como a superior, o a los gobernadores, como a los que son enviados por él para el castigo de los malhechores, y para la alabanza de los quien hacen bien: porque esta es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el bien, ustedes podáis silenciar la ignorancia de los hombres tontos; como libre, y no usando vuestra libertad como un manto de mal, sino como los siervos de Dios. Honrad a todos; amad la hermandad; temed a Dios; honrad al rey”.

¡El Señor Jesús y los apóstoles no eran revolucionarios comunistas!

¿Las palabras de Jesús y Pedro se parecen a las de Karl Marx? ¡Claro que no! Pero si tú escuchas a muchos liberales y comunistas, especialmente a muchos jesuitas en América del Sur, !entonces tú podría creer que Jesús era un “revolucionario” que quiere que los cristianos nos levantemos contra nuestros opresores con la espada o con armas de fuego!

!Pero ese no es el mensaje de la Biblia! En cambio, Dios exige que los creyentes en Jesucristo se sometan a toda autoridad humana (policías, jueces, políticos, presidentes, reyes), para que podamos predicar el Evangelio de Jesucristo con buen testimonio!

1 Pedro 2:15-16: “porque esta es la voluntad de Dios, que por hacer el bien, ustedes podáis silenciar la ignorancia de los hombres tontos; como libre, y no usando vuestra libertad como un manto de mal, sino como los siervos de Dios”.

En otras palabras, para los creyentes en Jesucristo, todo lo que en esta vida es importante para los pecadores debe ser dejado de lado, para que nuestras vidas puedan estar enfocadas en un solo objetivo y propósito: llevar el Evangelio a todo el mundo, según la Gran Comisión de Jesucristo:

¡La Gran Comisión de Jesús invalida todas las leyes y autoridades humanas!

En los países comunistas donde hay poca libertad y existe un estado policial, los cristianos deben pagar impuestos y obedecer a su gobierno, pero en el asunto de predicar el Evangelio de Jesucristo, ellos deben DESOBEDECER su gobierno y continuar predicando el Evangelio, ¡pase lo que pase!

¿Por qué? ¡Porque la Gran Comisión es el mandato más importante del Señor Jesucristo! ¡Su Gran Comisión es superior a toda autoridad humana sobre la Tierra! Amén.

Hechos 5:27b -29: “Y el sumo sacerdote les preguntó, diciendo, “¿No os ordenamos rigurosamente, que no enseñaseis en este Nombre? Y he aquí, habéis llenado a Jerusalén con vuestra doctrina, y queréis echar sobre nosotros la sangre de este hombre”. Respondiendo Pedro y los Apóstoles, dijeron, “DEBERÍAMOS OBEDECER A DIOS ANTES QUE A LOS HOMBRES”.

2 Timoteo 2:8-10: “Acuérdate que Jesús Cristo, de la simiente de David, resucitó de los muertos conforme a mi Evangelio; en cual yo sufro problemas como malhechor, incluso hasta cadenas. PERO LA PALABRA DE DIOS NO ESTÁ ENCADENADA; por tanto, todo lo sufro por amor de los escogidos, para que ellos también obtengan la salvación que es en Cristo Jesús con gloria eterna”.

El Señor Jesús, el apóstol Pablo y los demás apóstoles no estaban interesados en, ni enseñaban que los cristianos debían levantarse en rebelión contra la autoridad, Ya sea con espadas o con armas de fuego, ¡ésta NO es la enseñanza de la Biblia! La única excepción a esta regla fue el Evangelio de Jesucristo: debemos difundir el Evangelio a todos los rincones de la Tierra para llevar a los pecadores a la fe en Jesucristo como su Salvador, pase lo que pase. Amén.

La pena capital es la voluntad de Dios

El apóstol Pablo era partidario de la pena capital. Bajo la inspiración del Espíritu Santo, escribió:

Romanos 13:3-4: “Porque los gobernantes no son terror para las buenas obras, sino para las malas. Entonces, ¿no tendrás miedo de la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella: porque él es el ministro de Dios para ti para bien. Pero si tú haces lo malo, teme: porque no lleva la espada en vano: porque él es el ministro de Dios, un vengador para ejecutar la ira sobre el que hace el mal”.

¡Aquellos que enseñan contra la pena capital (la pena de muerte) están en rebelión contra la Palabra de Dios! La pena de muerte fue enseñada por la Ley de Moisés y los Apóstoles nunca se opusieron a ella. En este texto, Pablo dio su apoyo tácito a la pena de muerte.

También, el Señor Jesús se sometió él mismo a la autoridad del gobernador romano Pilato para ser ejecutado. Aunque la ejecución fue injusta, pues Jesús era inocente, sin embargo, fue la voluntad de Dios; y al someterse al gobierno de Roma, Él reconoció su derecho a utilizar la pena de muerte.

Por lo tanto, si nos oponemos a la pena de muerte, nos oponemos a la Palabra de Dios. Amén.

También es cierto que la pena capital no debe emplearse contra los inocentes. Esta es una abominación para Dios y no debe suceder.

Éxodo 23:6-7: “No pervertirás el derecho de tu pobre en su causa; mantente a ti mismo muy lejos de un asunto falso. Y no matarás al inocente y justo: porque yo no justificaré al impío”.

Los creyentes deben pagar impuestos a su gobierno

Romanos 13:5-7: “Por tanto, es una necesidad estar sujetos, no sólo por la ira, sino también por causa de la conciencia. Por esta razón también, ustedes pagáis impuestos, porque ellos son los ministros de Dios, atendiendo continuamente sobre esta misma cosa. Por lo tanto, dad a todos lo que se debe: impuesto a quien se debe impuesto; costumbre a quien costumbre; miedo a quien miedo; honrar a quien honrar”.

¡No escuchen a quienes afirman que los cristianos no deben pagar impuestos! La Biblia es MUY CLARA en cuanto a que los cristianos deben pagar impuestos.

Los cristianos nacidos de nuevo tienen el derecho divino como hijos del Rey de reyes y Señor de señores de rechazar las pretensiones de todas las autoridades terrenales. PERO, Jesús y los apóstoles enseñaron que debemos pagar impuestos y someternos a las autoridades que existen sobre nosotros, para que podamos predicar el Evangelio.

La única excepción a esta regla es la Gran Comisión, que anula todos los gobiernos y leyes humanas, si intentan oponerse a la predicación del Evangelio.

No es pecado desobedecer una ley o regla que el hombre creó

Por último, esto es muy importante: si rompo el límite de velocidad en la carretera, no he roto ninguna ley de Dios en la Biblia; por lo tanto, no he pecado. Lo mismo se aplica a cualquier ley de gobierno humano que no se menciona en la Biblia.

Cualquier regla que el gobierno humano pueda crear, si no se deriva de, o es una copia de, una Ley de Dios en la Biblia, entonces no es un mandamiento o ley de Dios que sería un pecado quebrantar. El castigo por violar una ley hecha por el hombre es el castigo escrito en la ley de ellos. Por violar el límite de velocidad, es una multa. No es un pecado.

Sería vergonzoso y hasta podría costarte dinero y tiempo en prisión, pero en esta situación no has pecado contra Dios.

Algunos jóvenes creyentes en Jesucristo tienen la impresión equivocada de que si exceden el límite de velocidad en la carretera, ¡han pecado contra Dios! Yo también pensaba así, pero a medida que estudié la Biblia a lo largo de muchos años, llegué a comprender que esto no es bíblico: es incorrecto pensar de esta manera. ¡Te estás vinculando a una ley que Dios no te dio! Amén.

¿Qué pasa con las normas de las escuelas o los centros comerciales que dicen: “No corras en los pasillos ni en los corredores”? ¿Es pecado correr? ¡Ja, ja, claro que no! Es una regla hecha por el hombre. ¡No es pecado romper esa regla hecha por el hombre! Amén.

Si la escuela prohíbe caminar por los pasillos entre clases, ¿es pecado caminar por los pasillos entre clases? ¡Claro que no! Es una regla creada por el hombre. El castigo por romperlo es el que diga la escuela; pero Dios no tuvo nada que ver con ello.

Si no logra detenerse por completo en una señal de pare, ¿has cometido un pecado contra Dios? ¡Por supuesto que no! La señal de pare es una regla creada por el hombre. El castigo es una multa, ¡y ya está!

Es un buen testimonio de Cristo ante los ojos del mundo, si obedecemos este tipo de reglas o leyes hechas por el hombre. Sin embargo, no debemos aferrarnos a la idea de que, de alguna manera, hemos pecado contra Dios si no obedecemos las leyes de Dios. Sólo si quebrantamos las leyes de Dios podemos tener una conciencia culpable:

Romanos 3:19-20: “Y sabemos que cualquier cosa que dice la Ley, ello les dice a los que son bajos la Ley, para que cada boca puede estar cerrada, y todo el mundo puede llegar a ser culpable ante Dios; por tanto, por las obras de la Ley ninguna carne será justificada en su vista: porque por la Ley es el conocimiento del pecado”.

Conclusión

1) El gobierno humano es una extensión de la autoridad de Dios.

2) Los apóstoles Pablo y Pedro enseñaron que debemos someternos a todas las autoridades humanas.

3) La Ley Divina es suprema sobre todas las leyes humanas.

4) El Señor Jesús enseñó que deberíamos someternos nosotros mismos al gobierno humano y pagar impuestos.

5) ¡El Señor Jesús y los apóstoles no eran revolucionarios comunistas!

6) ¡La Gran Comisión de Jesús invalida todas las leyes y autoridades humanas!

7) La pena capital es la voluntad de Dios.

8) Los creyentes deben pagar impuestos a su gobierno.

9) No es pecado desobedecer una ley o regla que el hombre creó.

Como Ser Salvado

La Biblia dice claramente que la salvación sólo se puede obtener si nos arrepentimos y creemos en Jesucristo para ser salvados.

Lucas 13:3: “Os digo, no; pero, a menos que os arrepientas, todos pereceréis igualmente”.

Romanos 3:21-24: “Pero ahora, la justicia de Dios aparte de la Ley se revela (siendo testificada por la Ley y los Profetas), aun la justicia de Dios cual es a través de la fe de Jesucristo hasta todos y sobre todos los que creen: porque no hay diferencia:, porque todos han pecado, y se han quedado cortos de la gloria de Dios; siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús”.

¡Es imposible guardar la Ley de Moisés! El único propósito de la Ley de Moisés (los Diez Mandamientos) es hacerte entender que eres un pecador que ha pecado contra Dios. No puede hacerte justo ante los ojos de Dios:

¡Los pecados sólo pueden ser pagados la expiación terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz! ¡No podemos pagar nuestros propios pecados con nuestro sufrimiento, ni en esta vida ni en el lugar ficticio llamado “Purgatorio”!

Romanos 3:23-26: “Porque todos han pecado, y se han quedado cortos de la gloria de Dios; siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús; quien Dios ha exhibido públicamente, ser una propiciación a través de la fe en su sangre, declarar su justicia para la remisión de los pecados pasados, a través de la paciencia de Dios; para declarar, digo, en este tiempo su justicia; para que Dios sea justo, y el justificador de él quien cree en Jesús”.

¡Aquí está cómo puedes ser verdaderamente salvado HOY, y saber que tienes Vida Eterna, ahora mismo!

La Biblia dice,

Romanos 10:9-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? ‘La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón’, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, ‘cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado’. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], ‘Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado’”.

Estas listo para hacer eso? Si es así, entonces busca un lugar para orar en privado y haz esta oración con todo tu corazón al Señor Jesucristo:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
