Romans, Chapter 2.5: The sanctification of believers through the Assembly of Jesus Christ (12:1 - 16:27)

§Complement Introduction: Be a Christian everyday, both inwardly and outwardly (12:1 - 21)

Introduction

If you have read this series of studies on Hebrews and Romans over the last year or so, then you may recall that the main theme of these two important letters (which combine together to make one logical Book in the Golden Ratio design of the Bible) is about salvation; or, how to have a New Covenant personal relationship with God through repentance and faith in the Finished Atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross.

But now, we are in the last chapter of Romans, and we should be able to see (using the themes of the outline above) that this chapter is all about the spiritual growth of a born again believer in Jesus Christ, which is accomplished through sanctification of the soul and spirit through obedience to the Word of God.

The first part of sanctification

But before a believer in Christ can be sanctified through obedience to the Word of God, he/she must know what the Bible actually says! If a believer rarely or never reads the Bible for their own spiritual nourishment and growth, then they cannot grow! The Word of God to the believer is analogous to fertilizer to plants in your garden; without fertilizer of some sort in the soil, your garden will not produce much (if any) fruit; the tomatoes, green beans, and radishes will be tiny or not grow at all.

1 Peter 2:1-3: “Therefore, laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisy, and envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby (if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious)”

Once the fertilizer is applied to the soil, then the plants have the nourishment they need to grow and prosper; likewise, when the Word is applied to the heart and mind of the believer in Jesus Christ, then the believer can grow spiritually and prosper.

Psalm 1:1-4: “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the Law of Jehovah; and in his Law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season. Also his leaf shall not wither, and whatsoever he does shall prosper.”

Matthew 13:3-9: “And he spoke many things to them in parables, saying, “Behold, a sower went forth to sow; and when he sowed, some seeds fell by the wayside, and the birds came and devoured them up. Some fell upon stony places, where they did not have much earth; and immediately they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth; and when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. And some seeds fell among thorns, and the thorns sprung up, and choked them; but other seeds fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some a hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold. Who has ears to hear, let him hear.”

The second part of sanctification

Then, once the believer has knowledge of what the Bible actually says, the next step is to obey what the Bible says. In other words, do it; put it into practice; or “put shoes on your faith” (all are the same thing).

James 1:22-25: “But be doers of the Word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. For if anyone is a hearer of the Word, and not a doer, he is like a man beholding his natural face in a mirror: for he beholds himself, and goes his way, and immediately forgets what manner of man he was. But whoso looks into the perfect Law of liberty, and continues in it (he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work), this man shall be blessed in his deed.”

Luke 6:46-49: Jesus said, “And why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord’; but you do not do the things that I say? Whosoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: he is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation upon bedrock; and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house; and it could not shake it, because it was founded upon bedrock. But he that hears, and does not do them, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream pounded vehemently, and immediately it fell; and the ruin of that house was great.”

For example, Jesus said that we should go into all the world and preach the Gospel to every creature:

Mark 16:15: “And he said to them, ‘Go into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature’”

What are you doing to obey this command of Jesus Christ? The very minimum that you should be doing after you were born again (see the end of this study) is to join a Bible believing, Gospel preaching, independent Baptist church. Within the local church (if you choose this kind of church and no others), you will find the Bible preached, souls being saved and baptized according to the Scriptures, and financial support being given to missionaries to carry the Gospel to the ends of the Earth, so that this command will be obeyed.

If you are sitting at home on Sundays and doing nothing for God, you are in disobedience to this command! This is the most important command for all believers in Jesus Christ! Amen.

Here is another example:

1 Thessalonians 4:2-7: “For you know what commands we gave you by the Lord Jesus: for this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you should abstain from fornication; that every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honor, and not in the passion of evil desire, even as the Gentiles that do not know God; and that no man goes beyond and defrauds his brother in any such matter: for the Lord is the avenger of all such, as we also have forewarned you and testified. For God has not called us to uncleanness, but to holiness.”

What are you doing to obey this command of Jesus Christ? Are you abstaining from fornication, both visually and bodily? If you are looking at pornography or dirty advertisements on the internet or elsewhere, then you are sinning against God and you are not obeying this command!

Leviticus 11:45: “For I am Jehovah that is bringing you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; therefore you shall be holy, for I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:14-16: “As obedient children, not conforming yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance; but as he who has called you is Holy, so you also be holy in all manner of conduct: because it is written, “You be holy: for I am Holy.”

Here is an example of a Biblical principle for living being carried forward from the Old Covenant Law of Moses into the New Covenant. The context of this quotation is from the laws of Moses against unclean animals and creeping things. But Peter did not bring the commands against unclean animals and creeping things into the New Covenant: he brought the principle of personal holiness into the New Covenant, and that is all. The laws against unclean creatures and animals does not apply to New Covenant believers in Jesus; but the principle of personal holiness still does apply.

Hebrews 12:14: “Follow peace with all men; and holiness, without which, no man shall see the Lord.”

And personal holiness can only be attained if we read the Bible daily, join and attend a Bible believing, Gospel preaching, independent Baptist church.

These are only three examples of many commands of Jesus, either in person or through his Apostles, that we must obey if we want to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

¶Opposite Live the teachings of the Bible in your daily life (12:6 - 21)

Opposite Having, then, gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us: whether it is prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he that teaches, on teaching; or he that exhorts, on exhortation; he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.

Opposite Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be tenderly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honor, preferring one another. Not lagging in enthusiasm, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the necessity of saints: given to hospitality.

Complement Bless them which persecute you; bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Do not be arrogant, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

Complement Repay no man evil for evil. Do things honestly in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as lies in you, live peacefully with all men.

Unique Beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give room to wrath: for it is written, “‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says [Jehovah].” Therefore, if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing, you shall heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Romans 12:6-8: “Having, then, gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us: whether it is prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; or ministry, let us wait on our ministering; or he that teaches, on teaching; or he that exhorts, on exhortation; he that gives, let him do it with sincerity; he that rules, with diligence; he that shows mercy, with cheerfulness.”

Comments: The theme of this paragraph is “Live the teachings of the Bible in your daily life (Romans 12:6 - 21)”, which is part 2 of the process of Sanctification, as I showed before. In this subparagraph, Paul was saying that, depending on the gifts that God has given to us, we should use those gifts for the service of the Lord Jesus Christ; and we should do our best, with sincerity and not half-heartedly.

Romans 12:9-13: “Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil; cling to what is good. Be tenderly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honor, preferring one another. Not lagging in enthusiasm, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing steadfastly in prayer; distributing to the necessity of saints: given to hospitality.”

There are two kinds of “love” among believers in Jesus in this text:

The first Greek word translated as "love" is “agape” (selfless love), meaning you love others selflessly by doing things for them to help them without expecting anything in return.

The second Greek word translated as "love" is “phileo” or “brotherly” love, which means to serve one another as brothers and sisters in Christ in the Family of God.

[The third Greek word translated as "love" in the Bible is “eros”, which refers to sexual love; but this is not mentioned in this paragraph.]

1) In this text, it is “agape” or selfless love. Don’t have impure motives; don’t be a fake or a phony; let your acts of selfless love be done without seeking your own glory.

“Let love be without hypocrisy.”

2) Don’t have impure associations with evil or evil people. Modern “Christianity” practices “ecumenism”, which is a practice of association with false religions, such as Roman Catholicism or even Islam. This is not Biblical Love, to give credence to false religion in the name of “love”. Instead, we need to ABHOR false religions and cling to the Lord Jesus Christ and his Word! Amen.

Romans 12:9: “Abhor evil and cling to what is good.”

2 Corinthians 6:14 - 7:1: "Be not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship has righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with darkness? And what agreement has Christ with Belial? Or what part has he that believes with an infidel? And what agreement has the Temple of God with idols? For all of you are a Temple of the Living God; as God has said, “I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God; and they shall be my people.” ‘Therefore come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord; ‘and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you; and you shall be my sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.” Therefore having these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit; perfecting holiness in the fear of God."

In this text, it is brotherly (or phileo) love; put one other first; do not seek to be number one.

Romans 12:10: “Be tenderly affectionate one to another with brotherly love; in honor, preferring one another.”

Matthew 20:24-28: "And when the ten heard this, they were moved with indignation against the two brothers. But Jesus called them to himself, and said, “You know that the princes of the Gentiles lord it over them, and they that are great exercise authority upon them. But it shall not be this way among you; but whosoever wishes to have great authority among you must be your servant; and whosoever wishes to be first among you must be your bondslave. Even as the Son of man came not to be served, but to serve, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

Galatians 6:2-5: "Carry one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the Law of Christ: for if a man thinks himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceives himself. But let every man examine his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another: for every man shall ultimately carry his own burden."

4) Love the Lord Jesus Christ:

Romans 12:11 - 12: “Not lagging in enthusiasm, but fervent in spirit, serving the Lord; rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing steadfastly in prayer.”

5) Love your brothers and sisters in Christ, and your neighbors with a willingness to help when they are in need:

Romans 12:13: “distributing to the necessity of saints: given to hospitality.”

Relationships with other believers in Christ

Romans 12:14-16: “Bless them which persecute you; bless, and curse not. Rejoice with them that rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Be of the same mind one toward another. Do not be arrogant, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.”

Being Christ-like is difficult! But we should work on being Christ-like day by day, so that we can continually improve and do better over time. It will not happen immediately, just because we are now born again believers in Christ.

Relationships with everyone outside the faith of Christ

Romans 12:17-18: “Repay no man evil for evil. Do things honestly in the sight of all men. If it is possible, as much as lies in you, live peacefully with all men.”

This is so important! If the Lost sees our behavior and thinks, “This man is a hypocrite, because he doesn’t do what the Bible says”, then if they are correct, we have destroyed our testimony for Christ; and they will not listen to our pleas for them to repent and trust in Christ to be saved!

Sometimes their accusation is not correct; and they are just throwing mud at us to see how we will react to their false accusation! In either case, we need to be Christ-like so that they will see and know that we truly love our Lord Jesus, and that we believe that the Bible is true and real in our lives.

Someone has said that our lives are the only Bible that many people will ever read. So make sure that they can see Jesus in you and in me! Amen.

Relationships with your enemies

Romans 12:19-21: “Beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give room to wrath: for it is written, ‘‘Vengeance is mine; I will repay,’ says [Jehovah].’ Therefore, if your enemy hungers, feed him; if he thirsts, give him drink: for in so doing, you shall heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.”

This is very difficult! The natural man wants to react to his enemy, and attack his enemy with words and maybe with his fists; but this is not God’s way! Amen.

Matthew 5:38-42: Jesus said, “You heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth’; but I say to you, to not resist evil; but whosoever shall strike you on your right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if any man will sue you at the Law, and take away your coat, let him have your cloak also. And whosoever shall compel you to go a mile, go with him twice as far. Give to him that asks you; and from him that would borrow of you, turn him not away.”

This is a reference to personal relationships only, not to your duties as a soldier or a policeman or other public servant. In those roles, you are serving as a representative of higher authority and not of your own authority. Therefore, the rule is different in those situations:

Romans 13:1-4: “Let every soul be subject to the higher authorities: for there is no authority but of God; the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore, whosoever resists the authority, resists the ordinance of God; and they that resist shall receive condemnation to themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Will you, then, not be afraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you shall have praise of the same: for he is the minister of God to you for good. But if you do what is evil, be afraid: for he does not carry the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, an avenger to execute wrath upon him that does evil.”

Conclusion

Some believers think that they should spend all of their spare time studying the Bible, but not do anything else. This is an error!

We must not only study the Bible daily, but we must put the Bible into action in our daily lives, as we learn more about what the Bible actually says.

Be careful that you are doing what the Bible actually says, and not only what your preacher says! Many pastors and “Bible teachers” are teaching false doctrine either on purpose or in ignorance! The only way that you can know if this is the case is if you are a diligent student of the Bible yourself, like the noble Bereans:

Acts 17:10-12: “And the brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea; who coming there went into the synagogue of the Jews. These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the Word with all readiness of mind; and they searched the Scriptures daily, to see whether those things were true. Therefore many of them believed in Christ; also of honorable women who were Greeks; and of men, not a few.”

How to be saved

1) Repent from sin, believe the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and receive the Finished Atonement of Jesus on the cross to be saved.

2) Work every day to become sanctified from all evil in your life and in your heart.

In the Bible, salvation comes first; and sanctification comes afterward!

Many false religions such as Roman Catholicism and liberals who profess Christianity reverse that order; and they believe in error that if they do many good works, then after death, God will weigh their good works against their bad works; and if their good works outweigh their bad works, God will welcome them into Heaven; and if their bad works outweigh their good works, then they will go to “Purgatory” until their sins are expunged and paid for, and then God will welcome them into Heaven.

But there are several unbiblical errors in this thinking:

1) The Bible clearly says that salvation can only be obtained if we repent and believe in Jesus Christ to be saved.

Romans 3:21-24: “But now, the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed (being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets): even the righteousness of God which is through faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference, because all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus”

2) The Bible says NOTHING about a situation where God weighs our good works against our bad works to determine if we will go to Heaven or Hell. This is a lie from the devil! In fact, it says the opposite:

Romans 4:1-3: “What shall we say then that Abraham our father (according to the flesh) has found? For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to glory in. But not before God: for what does the Scripture say? Abraham “believed in [Jehovah]; and his faith was credited to him for righteousness.”

3) There is no such place as “Purgatory”! It was invented by the Popes as a means to fleece their poor Catholic people of their money (a scam) and to enrich themselves and the Vatican. “Purgatory” is actually Hell! And once you go there, no amount of prayers or money will ever get you out of there!

Luke 16:22-26: “And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom; the rich man also died, and was buried. And in Hell, he lifted up his eyes, being in extreme pain, and sees Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me!! And send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue: for I am in agony in this flame!!’ But Abraham said, ‘Son, remember that you in your lifetime received your good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things; but now he is comforted, and you are in agony. And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed, so that they which would pass from here to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from there.’”

Acts 8:20-23: “But Peter said to him, ‘Your money is going into perdition with you, because you have thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. You have neither part nor lot in this matter: for your heart is not right in the sight of God. Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours; and pray God, if perhaps the thought of your heart may be forgiven you: for I perceive that you are in the gall of bitterness, and in the bondage of iniquity.’”

4) Sins can only be paid for by the Finished Atonement of Jesus Christ on the cross! We cannot pay for our own sins with our suffering, either in this life or in the fictional place called “Purgatory”!

Romans 3:23-26: “because all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus; whom God has displayed publicly, to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the passing over of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness, so that God might be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus.”

Here is how you can be truly saved TODAY, and know that you have Eternal Life, right now!

The Bible says,

“that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” Romans 10:9-13

Are you ready to do that? If so, then find a place to pray privately, and pray this prayer with all of your heart to the Lord Jesus Christ:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Introducción

Pero antes de que un creyente en Cristo pueda ser santificado mediante la obediencia a la Palabra de Dios, ¡debe saber lo que realmente dice la Biblia!Si un creyente rara vez o nunca lee la Biblia para su propio alimento y crecimiento espiritual, ¡entonces no puede crecer! La Palabra de Dios para el creyente es análoga al fertilizante para las plantas de su jardín; Sin algún tipo de fertilizante en el suelo, su jardín no producirá mucha fruta (si es que produce alguna); los tomates, las judías verdes y los rábanos serán pequeños o no crecerán en absoluto.

1 Pedro 2:1-3: “Por tanto, desechando toda malicia, y todo engaño, e hipocresía, y envidia, y todas las malas palabras, como niños recién nacidos, desead la leche pura de la Palabra, para que por ella crezcáis (si en verdad si habéis probado que el Señor fuera clemente)”.

Una vez que se aplica el fertilizante al suelo, las plantas tienen el alimento que necesitan para crecer y prosperar; De la misma manera, cuando la Palabra se aplica al corazón y a la mente del creyente en Jesucristo, entonces el creyente puede crecer espiritualmente y prosperar.

Salmo 1:1-4: “Bienaventurado es el varón que no anda en consejo del impío, ni se pone de pie en camino de pecadores, ni se sienta en silla de escarnecedores. Pero en la Ley de Jehová es su delicia; y en su Ley medita de día y de noche. Y él será como árbol plantado junto a los ríos de agua, cual da su fruto en su temporada. Y su hoja no se marchitará, y todo lo que él hace prosperará”.

Mateo 13:3-9: “Y les habló muchas cosas en parábolas, diciendo, “He aquí, el sembrador salió a sembrar. Y cuando sembraba, parte de la semilla cayó junto al camino; y vinieron las aves y la comieron. Y parte cayó en pedregales, donde no había mucha suelo; y brotó luego: porque no tenía profundidad de suelo; pero cuando salió el sol, se quemó; y porque no tenía raíz, se secó. Y parte cayó entre espinos; y los espinos crecieron, y la ahogaron. Pero parte cayó en suelo bueno y dio fruto, cuál a ciento, cuál a sesenta, y cuál a treinta por uno. El que tiene oídos para oír, déjale oír”.

La segunda parte de la santificación

Entonces, una vez que el creyente tiene conocimiento de lo que la Biblia realmente dice, el siguiente paso es obedecer lo que la Biblia dice. En otras palabras, hazlo; ponlo en práctica; o “ponle zapatos a tu fe” (todos son la misma cosa).

Jacobo 1:22-25: “Pero sed hacedores de la Palabra, y no solamente oidores, engañándoos a ustedes mismos. Porque si alguno es oidor de la Palabra, y no hacedor, él es como un hombre que contempla su rostro natural en un espejo: porque él se contempla a sí mismo, y sigue su camino, e inmediatamente olvida qué clase de hombre era. Pero el que mira atentamente en la perfecta Ley de la libertad, y persevera en ella (no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra), éste será bienaventurado en lo que hace”.

Lucas 6:46-49: “¿Y por qué me llamáis, ‘Señor, Señor’; pero no hacéis lo que yo digo?. Todo aquel que viene a mí, y oye mis palabras, y las hace, os mostraré a quién es semejante: él es como un hombre que edificó una casa, cavó profundamente y puso los cimientos sobre la roca de fondo; y cuando surgió la inundación, el río golpeaba contra aquella casa, pero no la pudo moverlo: porque estaba fundada sobre la roca de fondo. Pero él que oye y no los hace, es como un hombre que sin una fundación construyó una casa sobre la tierra; contra el cual la corriente latía con vehemencia, e inmediatamente cayó; y la ruina de esa casa fue grande”.

Por ejemplo, Jesús dijo que debemos ir por todo el mundo y predicar el Evangelio a toda criatura:

Marcos 16:15: “Y les dijo, ‘Id dentro todo el mundo y predicad el Evangelio a toda criatura’”.

¿Qué estás haciendo para obedecer este mandato de Jesucristo? Lo mínimo que debes hacer después de naciste otra vez (ver el final de este estudio) es para unirse a una iglesia bautista que crea en la Biblia, predique el Evangelio e independiente. Dentro de la iglesia local (si eliges este tipo de iglesia y ninguna otra), encontrarás la Biblia predicada, almas siendo salvadas y bautizadas según las Escrituras, y financiero siendo entregado a los misioneros para llevar el Evangelio hasta los confines de la Tierra, para que este mandato sea obedecido.

Si te quedas en casa los domingos sin hacer nada por Dios, estás desobedeciendo este mandamiento. ¡Éste es el mandamiento más importante para todos los creyentes en Jesucristo! Amén.

He aquí otro ejemplo:

1 Tesalonicenses 4:2-7: “Porque ya sabéis qué Mandamientos os dimos por el Señor Jesús: porque ésta es la voluntad de Dios, incluso vuestra santificación; que os abstengáis de fornicación; que cada uno de ustedes sepa tener su vaso en santificación y honor; no en pasión de concupiscencia, como los gentiles que no conocen a Dios. Que ninguno agravie ni tome ventaja de su hermano, en nada: porque el Señor es vengador de todo esto, como ya os hemos dicho y protestado: porque no nos ha llamado Dios a la inmundicia, sino a la santidad”.

¿Qué estás haciendo para obedecer este mandato de Jesucristo? ¿Estás absteniendo de la fornicación, tanto visual como corporalmente? Si estás mirando pornografía o anuncios sucios en Internet o en cualquier otro lugar, ¡entonces estás pecando contra Dios y no estás obedeciendo este mandato!

Levíticio 11:45: “Porque yo soy Jehová, quien os hago subir de la tierra de Egipto para ser vuestro Dio. Seréis, pues, santos: porque yo soy santo”.

1 Pedro 1:14-16: “Como hijos obedientes, no os conforméis a las concupiscencias que antes teníais estando en vuestra ignorancia; sino que, así como Él que os llamó es santo, así ustedes también sed santos en toda clase de conducta: porque escrito está, ‘Sed santos: porque yo soy santo’”.

He aquí un ejemplo de un principio bíblico para vivir que se traslada desde la Ley del Antiguo Pacto de Moisés dentro el nuevo pacto. El contexto de esta cita proviene de las leyes de Moisés contra los animales inmundos y los reptiles. Pero Pedro no trajo los mandamientos contra los animales inmundos y los reptiles al Nuevo Pacto; él trajo el principio de la santidad personal al Nuevo Pacto, y eso es todo. Las leyes contra criaturas y animales inmundos no se aplican a los creyentes del Nuevo Pacto en Jesús; pero el principio de santidad personal todavía se aplica.

Hebreos 12:14: “Seguid la paz con todos; y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor”.

Y la santidad personal sólo puede alcanzarse si leemos la Biblia diariamente, nos unimos y asistimos a una iglesia bautista que crea en la Biblia, predique el Evangelio e independiente.

Estos son sólo tres ejemplos de muchos mandatos de Jesús, ya sea en persona o a través de sus Apóstoles, que debemos obedecer si queremos crecer en la gracia y en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

¶Lo opuesto Vive las enseñanzas de la Biblia en tu vida diaria (12:6 - 21)

Lo opuesto “Teniendo, pues, diferentes dones según la gracia que nos es dada: si es profecía, profeticemos según la proporción de la fe; o ministerio, esperemos sobre nuestra ministración; o él que enseña, sobre enseñar; o él que exhorta, sobre la exhortación; él que da, déjalo que lo haga con sinceridad; él que gobierna, con diligencia; él que muestra misericordia, con alegría.

Lo opuesto “Que el amor sea sin hipocresía. Aborreced lo que es malo; apegaos a lo bueno. Sed tiernamente afectuosas los unos con los otros con amor fraternal; en honor, prefiriéndonos unos a otros. No rezagado en entusiasmo, pero ferviente en espíritu, sirviendo al Señor; regocijándose en la esperanza, paciente en tribulación, continuando firmemente en la oración; distribuyendo a la necesidad de los santos; dados a la hospitalidad”.

El complemento “Bendecid a los que os persiguen; bendecid, y no maldigáis. Gozaos con los que se gozan; y llorad con los que lloran. Sean de la misma mente los unos para con los otros. No seáis arrogantes; pero condescendáis a los hombres de baja condición. No seáis sabio en tus propias vanidades.

El complemento “No paguéis a nadie mal por mal; haced las cosas honestamente a la vista de todos los hombres. Si fuera posible, tanto como ello esté en ustedes, vivid en paz con todos los hombres.

Único “Amados, no os venguéis ustedes mismos, antes, dad lugar a la ira: porque escrito está, “‘La venganza es mía, yo pagaré,’ [Jehová] dice”. Por lo tanto, si tu enemigo tuviere hambre, dale de comer; y si tuviere sed, dale de beber: porque al hacer esto, amontonarás brasas de fuego sobre su cabeza. No seas vencido de lo malo, pero vence con el bien el mal”.

Romanos 12:6-8: “Teniendo, pues, diferentes dones según la gracia que nos es dada: si es profecía, profeticemos según la proporción de la fe; o ministerio, esperemos sobre nuestra ministración; o él que enseña, sobre enseñar; o él que exhorta, sobre la exhortación; él que da, déjalo que lo haga con sinceridad; él que gobierna, con diligencia; él que muestra misericordia, con alegría”.

Comentarios: El tema de este párrafo es “Vive las enseñanzas de la Biblia en tu vida diaria (Romanos 12:6 - 21)”, que es la parte 2 del proceso de Santificación, como lo mostré antes. Pablo estaba diciendo que, dependiendo de los dones que Dios nos ha dado, debemos usar esos dones para el servicio del Señor Jesucristo; y debemos hacer lo mejor que podamos, con sinceridad y no a medias.

Romanos 12:9-13: “Que el amor sea sin hipocresía. Aborreced lo que es malo; apegaos a lo bueno. Sed tiernamente afectuosas los unos con los otros con amor fraternal; en honor, prefiriéndonos unos a otros. No rezagado en entusiasmo, pero ferviente en espíritu, sirviendo al Señor; regocijándose en la esperanza, paciente en tribulación, continuando firmemente en la oración; distribuyendo a la necesidad de los santos; dados a la hospitalidad”.

Hay dos tipos de “amor” entre los creyentes en Jesús en este texto:

La primera palabra griega traducida como “amor” es “ágape” (amor desinteresado), lo que significa que amas a los demás desinteresadamente, haciendo cosas por ellos para ayudarlos sin esperar nada a cambio.

La segunda palabra griega traducida como “amor” es “phileo” o amor “fraternal”, que significa servirnos unos a otros como hermanos y hermanas en Cristo en la Familia de Dios.

[La tercera palabra griega traducida como “amor” en la Biblia es “eros”, que se refiere al amor sexual; pero esto no se menciona en este párrafo.]

1) En este texto, se habla de “ágape” o amor desinteresado. No tengas motivos impuros; no seas un impostor ni un farsante; Que tus actos de amor desinteresado se realicen sin buscar tu propia gloria.

“Que el amor sea sin hipocresía”.

2) No tengas asociaciones impuras con personas malvadas o malvadas. “El cristianismo” moderno practica “el ecumenismo”, que es una práctica de asociación con religiones falsas, como el catolicismo romano o incluso el islam. No es amor bíblico dar crédito a la religión falsa en nombre del “amor”. En lugar de eso, necesitamos ABORRECER las religiones falsas y aferrarnos al Señor Jesucristo y a su Palabra. Amén.

Romanos 12:9: “Aborreced lo que es malo; apegaos a lo bueno”.

2 Corintios 6:14 - 7:1: "No os unid en yugo desigual con los incrédulos: porque ¿qué compañerismo tiene la justicia con la injusticia? ¿Y qué comunión la luz con las tinieblas? ¿Y qué concordia Cristo con Belial? ¿O qué parte el creyente con el incrédulo? ¿Y qué acuerdo tiene el Templo de Dios con los ídolos? Porque todos ustedes son un Templo del Dios Vivo; como dios ha dicho, “Habitaré en ellos y caminaré en ellos; y yo seré su Dios; y ellos serán mi pueblo”. Por lo tanto, salid desde entre ellos, y sed separada,’ dice el Señor, ‘y no toquéis la cosa inmunda; y yo os recibiré, y seré Padre a ustedes, y ustedes me seréis hijos e hijas,’ dice el Señor Todopoderoso”. Por lo tanto, amados, teniendo tales promesas, limpiémonos desde toda inmundicia de la carne y del espíritu, perfeccionando la santidad en el temor de Dios".

En este texto se trata del amor fraternal (o phileo); poner al otro primero; no buscar ser el número uno.

Romanos 12:10: “Sed tiernamente afectuosas los unos con los otros con amor fraternal; en honor, prefiriéndonos unos a otros”.

Mateo 20:24-28: "Y cuando los diez oyeron esto, se conmovieron con indignación contra los dos hermanos. Pero Jesús los llamó, y dijo, “Tú sabes que los príncipes de los gentiles ejercen dominio sobre ellos, y los que son grandes ejercen autoridad sobre ellos. Pero no será esta manera entre ustedes; pero cualquiera que desee tener gran autoridad entre ustedes debe ser su siervo; y el que quiera ser el primero entre ustedes, debe ser vuestro esclavo. Incluso como el Hijo del hombre no vino para ser servido, sino para servir y dar su vida un rescate para muchos”.

Gálatas 6:2-5: "Llevaos las cargas de los unos a los otros, y así satisfaced la Ley de Cristo: porque si alguno piensa de sí que es algo, no siendo nada, a sí mismo se engaña. Así que, cada uno examine su propia obra, y entonces tendrá de qué gloriarse, sólo en sí mismo, y no en otro, porque cada uno llevará su propia carga".

4) Amad al Señor Jesucristo:

Romanos 12:11 - 12: “No rezagado en entusiasmo, pero ferviente en espíritu, sirviendo al Señor; regocijándose en la esperanza, paciente en tribulación, continuando firmemente en la oración”.

5) Amad a vuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, y a vuestros prójimos con la voluntad de ayudar cuando esté en necesidad:

Romanos 12:13: “distribuyendo a la necesidad de los santos; dados a la hospitalidad”.

Relaciones con otros creyentes en cristo

Romanos 12:14-16: “Bendecid a los que os persiguen; bendecid, y no maldigáis. Gozaos con los que se gozan; y llorad con los que lloran. Sean de la misma mente los unos para con los otros. No seáis arrogantes; pero condescendáis a los hombres de baja condición. No seáis sabio en tus propias vanidades.

Ser como Cristo es difícil, pero debemos esforzarnos por ser como Cristo día a día para poder mejorar continuamente y hacerlo mejor con el tiempo. No sucederá inmediatamente, sólo porque ahora somos creyentes nacidos de nuevo en Cristo.

Relaciones con todos los que están fuera de la fe de Cristo

Romanos 12:17-18: “No paguéis a nadie mal por mal; haced las cosas honestamente a la vista de todos los hombres. Si fuera posible, tanto como ello esté en ustedes, vivid en paz con todos los hombres”.

¡Esto es muy importante! Si los Perdidos ven nuestro comportamiento y piensan, “Este hombre es un hipócrita, porque no hace lo que dice la Biblia, entonces si son correctas, hemos destruido nuestro testimonio para Cristo; ¡y ellos no escucharán nuestras súplicas para que se arrepientan y confíen en Cristo para ser salvados!

A veces, sus acusaciones no son correctas; ¡y simplemente nos están tirando barro para ver cómo reaccionamos a su falsa acusación! En cualquier caso, necesitamos ser como Cristo para que vean y sepan que verdaderamente amamos a nuestro Señor Jesús y que creemos que la Biblia es verdadera y real en nuestras vidas.

Alguien ha dicho que nuestras vidas son la única Biblia que muchas personas leerán alguna vez. ¡Así que asegúrate de que puedan ver a Jesús en ti y en mí! Amén.

Relaciones con tus enemigos

Romanos 12:19-21: “Amados, no os venguéis ustedes mismos, antes, dad lugar a la ira: porque escrito está, “‘La venganza es mía, yo pagaré,’ [Jehová] dice”. Por lo tanto, si tu enemigo tuviere hambre, dale de comer; y si tuviere sed, dale de beber: porque al hacer esto, amontonarás brasas de fuego sobre su cabeza. No seas vencido de lo malo, pero vence con el bien el mal”.

¡Esto es muy difícil! El hombre natural quiere reaccionar ante su enemigo y atacarlo con palabras y tal vez con los puños, pero ese no es el camino de Dios. Amén.

Mateo 5:38-42: Jesús dijo, “Oísteis que fue dicho, ‘Un ojo por ojo, y un diente por diente’. Pero yo os digo, no resistáis el mal; pero cualquiera que te golpee en tu mejilla derecha, gira la otra hacia él también. y si algún hombre te demandará en la corte y te quitará la túnica, que él también tenga la capa; y cualquiera que te obligue a ir una milla, ve con él dos veces más lejos. Dale al que te pida; y desde él que quiere pedir prestado desde ti, no le rechaces”.

Esto se refiere únicamente a las relaciones personales y no a sus deberes como soldado, policía u otro servidor público. En esos roles, usted actúa como representante de una autoridad superior y no de su propia autoridad. Por lo tanto, la regla es diferente en esas situaciones:

Romanos 13:1-4: “Que cada alma esté sujeta a las autoridades superiores: porque no hay autoridad pero de Dios; las autoridades que existen son nombradas por Dios. Por lo tanto, cualquiera que resiste a la autoridad, resiste a la ordenanza de Dios; y los que resistan, recibirán condenación para sí mismos. Porque los gobernantes no son terror para las buenas obras, sino para las malas. Entonces, ¿no tendrás miedo de la autoridad? Haz lo bueno, y tendrás alabanza de ella: porque él es el ministro de Dios para ti para bien. Pero si tú haces lo malo, teme: porque no lleva la espada en vano: porque él es el ministro de Dios, un vengador para ejecutar la ira sobre el que hace el mal”.

Conclusión

Algunos creyentes piensan que deberían dedicar todo su tiempo libre a estudiar la Biblia, pero no hacer nada más. ¡Esto es un error!

No sólo debemos estudiar la Biblia diariamente, sino que debemos ponerla en acción en nuestra vida diaria, a medida que aprendemos más acerca de lo que la Biblia realmente dice.

¡Ten cuidado de estar haciendo lo que realmente dice la Biblia, y no sólo lo que dice tu predicador! ¡Muchos pastores y “maestros de la Biblia” están enseñando doctrinas falsas ya sea a propósito o por ignorancia! La única manera de saber si este es el caso es si usted mismo eres estudiante diligente de la Biblia, como los nobles bereanos:

Hechos 17:10-12: “Y los hermanos inmediatamente enviaron a Pablo ya Silas de noche a Berea; quienes, llegando allí, entró en la sinagoga de los judíos. Estos eran más nobles que los de Tesalónica, porque recibieron la Palabra con toda disposición de la mente; y escudriñaban las Escrituras todos los días, para ver si esas cosas eran verdad. Por lo tanto, creyeron muchos de ellos en Cristo; también de mujeres distinguidas que eran griegas, y de los hombres, no pocos”.

Como Ser Salvado

1) Arrepiéntete del pecado, cree al Evangelio de Jesucristo y recibe la Expiación Terminada de Jesús en la cruz para ser salvado.

2) Trabaja cada día para santificarte de todo mal en tu vida y en tu corazón.

¡En la Biblia, la salvación viene primero; y la santificación viene después!

Muchas religiones falsas como el catolicismo romano y los liberales que profesan el cristianismo invierten ese orden; y creen erróneamente que si hacen muchas buenas obras, entonces después de la muerte, Dios pesará sus buenas obras contra sus malas obras; y si sus buenas obras superan a sus malas obras, Dios dará la bienvenida a ellos en el Cielo; y si sus malas obras superan a sus buenas obras, entonces irán al “Purgatorio” hasta que sus pecados sean borrados y pagados, y entonces Dios les dará la bienvenida en el Cielo.

Pero hay varios errores no bíblicos en esta forma de pensar:

1) La Biblia dice claramente que la salvación sólo se puede obtener si nos arrepentimos y creemos en Jesucristo para ser salvados.

Romanos 3:21-24: “Pero ahora, la justicia de Dios aparte de la Ley se revela (siendo testificada por la Ley y los Profetas), aun la justicia de Dios cual es a través de la fe de Jesucristo hasta todos y sobre todos los que creen: porque no hay diferencia: porque todos han pecado, y se han quedado cortos de la gloria de Dios; siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús”

2) La Biblia no dice NADA acerca de una situación en la que Dios sopesa nuestras buenas obras contra nuestras malas obras para determinar si iremos al Cielo o al Infierno. ¡Esta es una mentira del diablo! De hecho, dice lo contrario:

Romanos 4:1-3: ““¿Qué, pues, diremos que Abraham nuestro padre (según a la carne) ha encontrado? Porque si Abraham fue justificado por las obras, tiene algo de lo que gloriarse. Pero no delante Dios: porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? Abraham “creyó en [Jehová]; y su fe fue acreditada a él por justicia”.

3) ¡No existe tal lugar llamado “Purgatorio”! Fue inventado por los Papas como medio para desplumar a su pobre pueblo católico (una estafa) y enriquecerse ellos mismos y al Vaticano. “El Purgatorio” es en realidad el infierno. Y una vez que entras allí, ¡ninguna cantidad de oraciones o dinero te sacará de allí!

Lucas 16:22-26: “Y sucedió que el mendigo murió y fue llevado por los ángeles al seno de Abraham; el hombre rico también murió y fue enterrado. Y en el infierno, alzó los ojos, siendo en dolor extremo, y ve a Abraham muy lejos, y Lázaro sostenido en su brazos. Y clamó y dijo: ‘¡¡Padre Abraham, ten misericordia de mí; y envía a Lázaro para que moje la punta de su dedo en agua y refresca mi lengua: porque estoy en agonía en esta llama!!’ Pero Abraham dijo, ‘Hijo, recuerda que en tu vida recibiste tus cosas buenas, y también Lázaro cosas malas; pero ahora él está consolado, y estás en agonía. Y además de todo esto, entre nosotros y tú hay un gran abismo fijado, de modo que aquellos que pasarían de aquí a ustedes no pueden; tampoco pueden venir a nosotros, eso vendría de allí’.

Hechos 8:20-23: “Pero Pedro le dijo, “Tu dinero va dentro a destrucción contigo, porque has pensado que el don de Dios se puede comprar con dinero. No tienes ni parte ni lote en este asunto: porque tu corazón no está recto a los ojos de Dios. Arrepiéntete, pues, de esta maldad tuya, y ruega a Dios, si quizás el pensamiento de tu corazón puede ser perdonado a ti: porque percibo que estás en hiel de amargura y en esclavitud de iniquidad”. Respondiendo entonces Simón, dijo, “Rogad ustedes por mí al Señor, que ninguna de estas cosas que habéis dicho, venga sobre mí”.

4) ¡Los pecados sólo pueden ser pagados la expiación terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz! ¡No podemos pagar nuestros propios pecados con nuestro sufrimiento, ni en esta vida ni en el lugar ficticio llamado “Purgatorio”!

Romanos 3:23-26: “porque todos han pecado, y se han quedado cortos de la gloria de Dios; siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús; quien Dios ha exhibido públicamente, ser una propiciación a través de la fe en su sangre, declarar su justicia para la remisión de los pecados pasados, a través de la paciencia de Dios; para declarar, digo, en este tiempo su justicia; para que Dios sea justo, y el justificador de él quien cree en Jesús”.

¡Aquí está cómo puedes ser verdaderamente salvado HOY, y saber que tienes Vida Eterna, ahora mismo!

La Biblia dice,

Romanos 10:9-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? ‘La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón’, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, ‘cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado’. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], ‘Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado’”.

Estas listo para hacer eso? Si es así, entonces busca un lugar para orar en privado y haz esta oración con todo tu corazón al Señor Jesucristo:
