Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

Introduction
Comments: This is a follow-on study to Romans Study #57, which explained why speaking in tongues today is not Biblical.
If you missed that study, please review it now, so that you will understand this study complete.
In this study, I want to provide an introduction to the difficult passages in 1 Corinthians 12-14. Without the proper understanding of the Book of Acts, this part of 1 Corinthians on speaking in tongues has caused a lot of heresy and poor theology among Christians and in churches all over the world.
So first, let’s briefly recap the previous study, because without that context, this study in 1 Corinthians won’t make sense.
Summary of the previous study
1) The transition from the Old Covenant to the New was a serious problem for believers under the Old Covenant (both Jews and Gentile converts to the faith of Israel under the Old Covenant). They were the children of God by faith, because they had believed in Jehovah and offered animal sacrifices in the Temple according to the Law of Moses to be saved.
However, because the Finished Work of Christ on the cross (the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus) had done away with animal sacrifices in the Temple (Hebrews 10:1-18), these believers had no way to approach God, as before. They could approach God through the Lord Jesus Christ as their Messiah; however, most of them did not know that until they were confronted with the Gospel of Christ by the Apostles and the early Assembly in Jerusalem.
2) God gave two specific things to help these believers (who were justified under the Old Covenant, but did not yet believe in Jesus as their Messiah) learn the truth about Jesus Christ: the Letter to the Hebrews and the spiritual sign gift of speaking in tongues.
a) The Letter to the Hebrews explains in detail to these Jewish believers why the old way of approaching Jehovah God through animal sacrifices in the Temple was now obsolete; and the new Way to God through the Finished Work of Christ on the cross was the only Way to approach Jehovah their God.
b) The spiritual sign gift of speaking in tongues was a sign to every Jew (including Gentile converts to Israel) that the Old Covenant was obsolete and the New Covenant had arrived; and Jesus Christ was their Messiah.
3) And God targeted four specific groups of Jewish BELIEVERS with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in this way in the Book of Acts. In each case, the event of speaking in foreign languages without training was a SIGN to a particular group of Jews. Once the event occurred, there was no need to repeat that particular event again.
a) The believing Jews under the Old Covenant in Jerusalem (Acts 2): The Apostles and the first members of the early Assembly in Jerusalem (all Jews) spoke in tongues (about 120 people). This was a powerful sign from God to the 3,000 saved Jews in Jerusalem, that Jesus was their Messiah. And Peter explained to them (Acts 2:38), they should repent and be baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ so that they could receive the Holy Spirit. Not to be saved, but to receive the Spirit, because they were already saved, but they were not indwelt by the Spirit yet. Very important! It was also a sign to all Jews in general that Jesus was their Messiah. Gentiles did not speak in tongues in Acts 2. Once these Old Covenant believing Jews witnessed or heard about the sign of speaking in untrained tongues, the news quickly spread from Jerusalem to all of Israel, so there was no need for God to repeat this miracle for this group.
b) The Samaritans (Acts 8:12-19): Philip preached the Gospel to the Samaritans, many of whom had already believed in Jesus Christ when Jesus visited them years earlier (John 4:1-42). They were baptized, but did not receive the Holy Spirit until the Apostles Peter and John laid hands on them (Acts 8:17). The Bible doesn’t say specifically; but suggests strongly that the Samaritans did speak in tongues. The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to the Apostles that the Samaritans who believed were now the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. This was very important for Jewish Christians, because the Samaritans were despised by the Jews in general, because of their genetic heritage. Again, Gentiles did not speak in tongues in Acts 8:12-19. Once the Apostles observed this sign for the Samaritans, there was no need for God to repeat this miracle again.
c) Gentile converts to Israel (Acts 10): Cornelius was a Gentile who had become a believer in Jehovah under the Old Covenant, so he was not really a Gentile, but a Jewish convert; and his entire family believed in Jehovah with him; so all of them were already saved!
Acts 10:1-4: “There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band: a religious man, and one that feared [Jehovah] God with all his house, who gave much charity to the people, and prayed to [Jehovah] God always. He saw in a vision (evidently about the ninth hour of the day) an angel of [Jehovah] God coming in to him, and saying to him, “Cornelius.” And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, “What is it, Lord?” And he said to him, “Your prayers and your charity have come up for a memorial before [Jehovah] God.”
Acts 10:22: “And they said, “Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that fears [Jehovah] God, and of good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by a holy angel to send for you into his house, and to hear words of you.”
However, their faith needed to be made complete in Jesus Christ (just like the Old Covenant Jews in Acts 2:5-12), so God sent Peter to preach the Gospel to them, and they all believed and spoke in tongues when the Holy Spirit fell on them. The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to the Apostles that God wanted the Gospel to be preached to Gentiles as well as the Jews. And once the Apostles heard about this sign concerning the Gentiles, there was no need for God to repeat it to them again.
Acts 11:18: “When they heard these things, they held their peace; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted repentance into Eternal Life to the Gentiles.” (See end note)
d) Believing Jews who had been baptized by John the Baptist (Acts 19): The Apostle Paul met a group of Jewish men who had believed in Jehovah under the Old Covenant, and were baptized by John the Baptist. John only baptized believers in Jehovah, not the hypocrites. So they were already saved; however, they did not know anything about the Holy Spirit. So Paul taught these Old Covenant believers that they should be baptized in the Name of Jesus; which they did, and they spoke with tongues after the Holy Spirit came on them. The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to these Old Covenant believers in Jehovah that Jesus Christ was indeed the Messiah, and that they had received his Holy Spirit. It is possible that this sign was repeated to other followers of John the Baptist during the first century, but there is no record in the Bible of it. But the followers of John the Baptist were a very limited number of people in the world in that day. Once they had heard the news about Jesus Christ and this miracle, there was no need for God to repeat it.
The point is that in each of these four cases, the sign gift of speaking in foreign languages without training was a sign to Jews (or Gentile converts to Israel) who either were believers under the Old Covenant or to Jews who already believed in Christ! It was never a sign to Gentiles!
So, this means that today, speaking in tongues is not of God, because the sign gift of tongues was always and only to the Jews under the Old Covenant, not to Gentiles! Jews today are being persuaded to trust in Jesus Christ by the preaching of the Gospel, not by supposed miracles or sign gifts of tongues, because there are no Jews alive today who believed under the Old Covenant: that was 2,000 years ago! So speaking in tongues today is unnecessary and unbiblical.
This study: Tongues and the church in Corinth
First, let’s take a brief look at the Assembly (or church) at Corinth and some of their theological errors. This church was a terrible mess.
1) The church in Corinth was filled with proud, spiritually immature (carnal and selfish) believers who divided their church around “star preacher” personalities:
I Corinthians 1:12-13: “Now this I say, that every one of you says, “I am of Paul”, and “I of Apollos”, and “I of Cephas”, and “I of Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul?”
1 Corinthians 3:2-4: “I have fed you with milk, and not with solid food: for until now you were not able to bear it; neither yet now are you able: for you are still carnal. For whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are you not carnal, and walk as lost men? For while one says, “I am of Paul”; and another, “I am of Apollos”: are you not carnal?”
1 Corinthians 4:18-21: “Now some are proud, as though I would not come to you. But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the speech of them who are proud, but the power: for the Kingdom of God is not in word, but in power. What do you want? Shall I come to you with a rod; or in love, and the spirit of meekness?”
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? We have the same problem today in most churches, even in the best of them! Some Christians are zealous to learn doctrine, so they become attached to “star preachers”: they buy their books, their tapes/CDs, they listen to their sermons etc. They believe that “their star preacher” walks on water and is the next thing to God Himself! I was like that also, when I was a young believer in Christ.
“I like Bob Jones”; “I like Jack Hyles”; “I like John MacArthur”, etc.
As a young believer in Christ, there is nothing wrong with buying books and recordings of famous preachers up to a point; but you must never make an idol out of any preacher! They might be men of God and servants of the most high; but always remember that they are ONLY MEN, and nothing more. Never forget that! Keep your eyes on Jesus Christ and his Word! Humans will always fail you sooner or later; but Jesus Christ will NEVER fail you! Amen.
One of their members had been sleeping with his mother; and the church was proud!
I Corinthians 5:1-2: It is reported commonly that there is fornication among you; and such fornication as is not so much as named among the Gentiles, that one has the wife of his father. But you are proud, and have not rather mourned, that he that has done this deed might be excommunicated from among you”
In other words, one of their church members was living in a vile sin, and the church was proud about it! Paul commanded them to excommunicate him and cleanse the church from his wickedness.
I Corinthians 5:3-5: “for I truly, as absent in body, but present in spirit, have judged already, as though I were present, concerning him that has so done this deed, in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when you are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, to deliver such a one to Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the Day of the Lord Jesus.”
The church was drinking booze and feasting during the Table of the Lord!
I Corinthians 11:17-22: “Now in this that I declare to you I do not praise you, that you come together not for the better, but for the worse. For first of all, when you come together in the Assembly, I hear that there are divisions among you; and I partly believe it: for there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you. Therefore, when you come together into the same place, you are not truly eating the Lord’s supper: for in eating, everyone takes before others his own supper; and one is hungry, and another is drunk. What? Do you not have houses to eat and to drink in? Or do you despise the Assembly of God, and shame them that do not have? What shall I say to you? Shall I praise you in this? I do not praise you.”
In other words, these infant believers were getting drunk and feasting on food during the celebration of the Table of the Lord, which is obviously disgusting and wrong. So clearly, these believers were practicing many Biblical errors! Which gives us great insight into their abuses and misunderstanding about the sign gift of speaking in tongues.
Were the Gentiles speaking in Biblical tongues at the church in Corinth?
In the Book of Acts, the sign gift of speaking in tongues (speaking in foreign languages without training) was ONLY for the Jews, and never for Gentiles, so what should we conclude was going on in the Assembly at Corinth?
Here is the answer, and many of you will not like it, but it is the truth: The Christians (who were born as Gentiles) in Corinth were not speaking in the sign gift of tongues! They were speaking either in gibberish (nonsense talk e.g. “Seem salabim, honda bowtie honda bowtie”), falsely thinking that they were speaking in tongues like the Apostles in Acts 2; or they were speaking in real foreign languages that they had learned by training (Latin, Greek, or Hebrew; and maybe other languages of the Roman empire in that day); and they falsely thought that they were speaking in the tongues of Acts 2!
There is no other conclusion that we can make when we understand from the Book of Acts that the sign gift of speaking in tongues was restricted only and exclusively to the Jews! This church was full of doctrinal errors, especially in their understanding of what speaking in tongues was all about.
No interpreter was ever needed in the Book of Acts!
There is a major difference between the events in the Book of Acts and what Paul wrote in I Corinthians: in every case in the Book of Acts, no interpreter was ever needed!
Think about that: did anyone in Acts 2, 8, 10, or 19 need to interpret what the people speaking in tongues were saying? No! Because the tongues that were being spoken through the Holy Spirit could be understood by the people who were present!
Evidently, the audience in every case had knowledge of the languages that were being spoken; or perhaps the Holy Spirit did the translation, so it was a miracle of God; and no interpreter was needed.
Peter did not need to interpret what the Apostles and the early church was saying in tongues in Acts 2, because the Jews that God wanted to reach with his miracle of tongues could easily understand what was being said! In other words, it was not gibberish or nonsense talk!
Acts 2:7-11: “And they were all amazed; and marveled, saying one to another, “Behold, are not all these who speak Galileans? And how do we hear every man in our own language, in which we were born? Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia, Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes, Cretes and Arabians: we hear them speak in our languages the wonderful works of God.”
Neither did Peter and John or any of the Samaritans interpret what the Samaritans were saying in tongues! Neither did Cornelius, his family, or Peter interpret what they were saying! Neither did Paul or any of the 12 followers of John the Baptist interpret what they were saying! They didn’t have to, because whatever language was being said in tongues, it was understood by the people in attendance! So, they needed no interpreter!
But in I Corinthians, we read something completely different!
I Corinthians 14:5: “Now I want all of you to speak with [foreign] languages, but I wish rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with [foreign] languages, unless he interprets, so that the Assembly may receive strengthening.”
Now, if we understand that Paul taught the Gentile believers in Corinthians to strictly control their practice of speaking in real foreign languages, so that no one could do it unless they have an interpreter present, then it makes a lot of sense. That’s what we do today in Bible-believing churches! When a speaker comes to the church who speaks in a foreign language, like German, French, or Spanish, an interpreter must be present, so that everyone in the church can understand what he is saying! Otherwise, what is the use? He will speak into the air!
The whole purpose of preaching is to communicate the Word of God and its meaning to the people in the church or your audience, wherever it might be. So an interpreter is very important when speaking to an audience that doesn’t understand you.
Paul taught that speaking in a foreign language in the church requires an interpreter to be present
Now, let’s read some of the texts in I Corinthians 14:1-40 to see if they now make sense. I added the word [foreign] in italics to the Kingdom Study Bible text to show that it was added to help the understanding.
I Corinthians 14:2: “for he that speaks in a [foreign] language does not speak to men, but to God, because no man understands him; even though in the spirit he speaks [spiritual] mysteries.”
I Corinthians 14:9: “So likewise you, unless you utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? For you shall speak into the air.”
Exactly! Why would you want to speak in Spanish to an audience who doesn’t understand Spanish? It would be the same as speaking into the air! Even though I am speaking spiritual mysteries from the Scriptures, none of it makes sense to the audience.
I Corinthians 14:3-4: “But he that prophesies speaks to men for spiritual strengthening, exhortation, and comfort. He that speaks in a [foreign] language strengthens himself; but he that prophesies strengthens the Assembly.”
But if there is an interpreter of Spanish who can translate those words into the language of the audience, then the audience of believers will receive spiritual strengthening (edification), exhortation, and comfort!
Paul said that speaking in foreign languages is a great thing; but preaching in the language of your audience is much more important, because it bring benefit to the hearers.
If you speak or pray in gibberish, you had better be able to interpret it, so that your audience can understand it! Gibberish doesn’t even benefit the one saying it, because they don’t understand it at all.
I Corinthians 14:13-14: “Therefore let him that speaks in a [false] language pray that he may interpret: for if I pray in a [false] language, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful.”
Private prayer language?
There is no such thing as a “private prayer language” where you “speak in tongues” in private! This is another unbiblical teaching that is taught in Charismatic churches. Because the true speaking in tongues only occurred in the Book of Acts, and it was always done by Jews or converts to Israel, and it ceased after Acts 19:1-7, therefore speaking in tongues in any context is not of God today, period! Gibberish is never an acceptable way to communicate with God!
In addition, speaking in tongues in the Book of Acts never happened in private! It was always public, because it was meant to be a sign to the Jews. How could be a sign to anyone, if the tongues is happening in private? Of course, it cannot be.
Can you learn to speak in tongues?
When I lived in the Virginia Beach, Va area in the 1980s, one of the big charismatic churches there was notorious for teaching their church members to speak in tongues! Is that valid?
Did anyone in the Book of Acts have to be taught how to speak in tongues? No. Is there any text in I Corinthians that suggests that Christians should start repeating syllables until they feel overtaken by “the spirit” and begin chanting gibberish? No.
Charismatic churches have so much error and heresy that the best thing you can do is to avoid them completely! They are not Christian churches! Amen.
What is the correct way to sing, pray, and preach in church, or anywhere else?
I Corinthians 14:15: “What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
Above all things, God wants both speakers and hearers to understand what they are praying, singing, and preaching! If every church did what the Bible says in this text, there would not be any Charismatic or Pentecostal movement! Amen.
Summary
We must realize that when Christians go astray from the Word of God in this way, Satan and his demons will get involved in what they are doing! Satan is more than happy to give “ignorant brethren” a “spiritual experience” when they speak in gibberish, so that they will feel confirmed in their belief that what they are doing is from God! These “spiritual experiences” are from demons and not from the God of the Bible!
Sadly, many Charismatics and Pentecostals are not truly born again! I believe some are truly saved, but the power of the charismatic deception from Satan is so powerful that even when you take the Bible and explain these things to them, they will often say, “I don’t care what the Bible says! I’ve had an experience of speaking in tongues that I just KNOW is from God!” Only a miracle of God can open the eyes of a person that is blinded by Satan in this way.
I am hopeful that many Charismatics and Pentecostals will read this study and realize that they have been deceived, and repent and turn to the Lord Jesus to be saved; or to get right with their Savior in this matter. Pray much for these people! A Satanic deception in religion is like a spider’s web of deceit that is difficult to leave.
So I have proven from the Bible that the Charismatic movement today is not of God! No believer who wants to please God and do his will should have anything to do with it! If your church has people standing up and speaking in gibberish or if the pastor is leading the church to speak in nonsensical gibberish; and they claim that they are “speaking in tongues”, then you need to leave that church and find a Fundamental, Independent, Baptist church that believes the Bible! AMEN.
Next study, I will provide a survey study of Chapter 1.4 of Corinthians in the Golden Ratio design. The Body and Conclusion sections contain the text about speaking in tongues. This will be very helpful for everyone to see and understand the message of Paul about tongues in the church of Corinth.
How to be saved!
Friend, have you been caught up in the charismatic deceptions of “Speaking in tongues”, “Slaying in the spirit”, “Leg lengthening”, “Holy laughter”, “Planting a seed of money with a TV evanglist to get God to give you more money”? This movement is filled with Satanic deception, fraud, and lies! Repent of your prayers in gibberish! God wants us to pray in our own language to Him!
I Corinthians 14:15: “What, then, is [the proper way]? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also; I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the understanding also.”
In addition, are you certain that you have been born again, and that you know that you will go to Heaven when you die? Most Charismatic preachers teach that you can trust in Christ and be saved, but then you have to “hold on” to Jesus, or you will be lost forever. This is yet another lie that is common in this movement!
John 10:27-30: Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice; and I know them; and they follow me; and I am continually giving them Eternal Life; and they shall never, ever perish; neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. My Father, who gave them to me, is greater than all; and no one is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. I and my Father are one.”
Do you hear the Master’s voice calling you to Him today? Repent and turn to Jesus Christ with all of your heart and all of your soul! Jesus is the Son of God who paid for our sins on the cross with his atoning Blood, He was buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day, so that we might have Everlasting Life when we die: if we believe and repent and trust in Him!
John 3:14-16: Jesus said, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Eternal Life. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life.”
He is the Son of God, and calls you to Him today. Here is a prayer that you can use to be saved, and KNOW that you have Everlasting Life:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”
Also, if you have been involved in the Charismatic movement of speaking in tongues, then you have been deeply involved in demonic activity! So you also need to ask the Lord Jesus Christ to deliver you from the evil spirits associated with speaking in tongues and everything in this evil movement. Find a Fundamental, Independent, Baptist church to attend regularly, and serve Christ with all of your heart there; and God will bless you! Acts 11:13-14: Peter said, “and he showed us how he had seen an angel in his house, who stood and said to him, ‘Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon, whose surname is Peter, who shall tell you words, whereby you and all your house shall be saved.’”
Cornelius and his family were already saved (or Justified) through their faith in Jehovah under the Old Covenant; however, they were not completed in their salvation because they had not believed in Christ before Peter came to speak to them. So this text merely shows that Cornelius and his family were fully “saved” when they believed in Christ: i.e. their faith in Jehovah became complete. It does not mean that they were previously pagans and they were saved in the same sense that a sinner is saved today when he repents and trusts in Christ as his Savior.
The context is very clear that Cornelius and his family were already believers in Jehovah. Note also that the Holy Spirit fell on them while Peter was preaching, and they didn’t pray a sinner’s prayer to be saved (Romans 10:8-13), the same as Acts 2:38, where Peter was preaching to Jews who had also been saved under the Old Covenant, but whose faith was not complete until they believed in Christ the Son of God.
They were already saved, but their salvation was incomplete! They only needed to redirect their faith in Jehovah to Jesus Christ the Son of God.

Introducción
Comentarios: Éste es un estudio de seguimiento del Estudio #57 de Romanos, que explica por qué hablar en lenguas hoy no es bíblico.
Si se perdió ese estudio, por favor revíselo ahora para que entenderás este estudio completamente.
En este estudio, quiero brindar una introducción a los pasajes difíciles de 1 Corintios 12-14. Sin la comprensión adecuada del Libro de los Hechos, esta parte de 1 Corintios sobre hablar en lenguas ha causado mucha herejía y teología pobre entre los cristianos y en las iglesias de todo el mundo.
Entonces, primero, recapitulemos brevemente el estudio anterior, porque sin ese contexto, este estudio en 1 Corintios no tendrá sentido.
Resumen del estudio anterior
1) La transición del Antiguo Pacto al Nuevo fue un problema grave para los creyentes bajo el Antiguo Pacto (Tanto judíos y gentiles quienes se convirtieron a la fe de Israel bajo el Antiguo Pacto). Eran hijos de Dios por la fe, porque habían creído en Jehová y ofrecidos sacrificios de animales en el Templo según la Ley de Moisés para ser salvados.
Sin embargo, debido a que la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz (la muerte, sepultura y resurrección de Jesús) había eliminado los sacrificios de animales en el Templo (Hebreos 10:1-18), estos creyentes no tenían forma de acercarse a Dios, como antes. Podrían acercarse a Dios a través del Señor Jesucristo como su Mesías; sin embargo, la mayoría de ellos no lo supo hasta que los Apóstoles y la primera Asamblea en Jerusalén los confrontaron con el Evangelio de Cristo.
2) Dios dio dos cosas específicas para ayudar a estos creyentes (quienes fueron justificados bajo el Antiguo Pacto, pero aún no creían en Jesús como su Mesías) para aprender la verdad sobre Jesucristo: la Carta a los Hebreos y el don signo espiritual de hablar en lenguas.
a) La Carta a los Hebreos explica en detalle a estos creyentes judíos por qué la antigua forma de acercarse a Jehová Dios mediante sacrificios de animales en el Templo ahora era obsoleta; y el nuevo Camino a Dios a través de la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz era el único Camino para acercarse a Jehová su Dios.
b) La señal espiritual del don de hablar en lenguas era una señal para todo judío (incluidos los gentiles conversos a Israel) que el Antiguo Pacto estaba obsoleto y el Nuevo Pacto había llegado; y Jesucristo era su Mesías.
3) Y Dios apuntó a cuatro grupos específicos de CREYENTES judíos con el derramamiento del Espíritu Santo de esta manera en el Libro de los Hechos. En cada caso, el evento de hablar en lenguas extranjeras sin formación fue una SEÑAL para un grupo particular de judíos. Una vez que ocurrió el evento, no hubo necesidad de repetir ese evento en particular nuevamente.
a) Los judíos creyentes bajo el Antiguo Pacto en Jerusalén (Hechos 2): Los Apóstoles y los primeros miembros de la Asamblea primitiva en Jerusalén (todos judíos) hablaron en lenguas (unas 120 personas). Esta fue una poderosa señal de Dios para los 3.000 judíos en Jerusalén quienes ya fueron salvados bajos el Antiguo Pacto, de que Jesús era su Mesías. Y Pedro les explicó (Hechos 2:38), debían arrepentirse y ser bautizados en el Nombre de Jesucristo para que pudieran recibir el Espíritu Santo. No para ser salvados, sino para recibir el Espíritu, porque ya eran salvados, pero el Espíritu aún no moraba en ellos. ¡Muy importante! También fue una señal para todos los judíos en general de que Jesús era su Mesías. Los gentiles no hablaban en lenguas en Hechos 2. Una vez que estos judíos creyentes bajo el Antiguo Pacto presenciaron u oyeron acerca de la señal de hablar en lenguas sin entrenamiento, la noticia se extendió rápidamente desde Jerusalén a todo Israel, entonces no había necesidad de que Dios repitiera este milagro para este grupo.
b) Los samaritanos (Hechos 8:12-19): Felipe predicó el Evangelio a los samaritanos, muchos de los cuales ya habían creído en Jesucristo cuando Jesús los visitó años antes. (Juan 4:1-42). Fueron bautizados, pero no recibieron el Espíritu Santo hasta que los apóstoles Pedro y Juan les impusieron las manos (Hechos 8:17). La Biblia no lo dice específicamente; pero sugiere fuertemente que los samaritanos hablaban en lenguas. El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para los apóstoles de que los samaritanos que creían ahora eran hijos de Dios por la fe en Jesucristo. Esto fue muy importante para los cristianos judíos, porque los judíos en general despreciaban a los samaritanos, debido a su herencia genética. Una vez más, los gentiles no hablaban en lenguas en Hechos 8:12-19. Una vez que los Apóstoles observaron esta señal para los samaritanos, no hubo necesidad de que Dios repitiera este milagro nuevamente.
c) Conversos gentiles a Israel (Hechos 10): Cornelio era un gentil que se había convertido en creyente en Jehová bajo el Antiguo Pactos, entonces él no era realmente un gentil, sino un judío converso; y toda su familia creyó en Jehová con él; ¡Así que todos ellos ya estaban salvados!
Hechos 10:1-4: “Y había un varón en Cesarea llamado Cornelio, centurión de la compañía llamada la Italiana, piadoso y temeroso de [Jehová] Dios con toda su casa, que daba muchas limosnas al pueblo y oraba a [Jehová] Dios siempre. Éste vio claramente en visión, como a la hora novena del día, al Ángel de [Jehová] Dios que entraba a donde él estaba y le decía, “Cornelio”. Y mirándole, tuvo miedo, y dijo, “¿Qué es, Señor?”. Y le dijo, “Tus oraciones y tus limosnas han subido como un memorial delante de [Jehová] Dios”.
Sin embargo, su fe necesitaba ser completa en Jesucristo (al igual que los judíos del Antiguo Pacto) en Hechos 2:5-12), entonces Dios envió a Pedro a predicarles el Evangelio, y todos creyeron y hablaron en lenguas cuando el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre ellos. El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para los apóstoles de que Dios quería que el Evangelio fuera predicado tanto a los gentiles como a los judíos. Y una vez que los Apóstoles oyeron hablar de esta señal concerniente a los gentiles, no hubo necesidad de que Dios se la repitiera nuevamente.
Hechos 11:18: “Cuando oídas estas cosas, mantuvieron su paz; y glorificaron a Dios, diciendo, “Entonces Dios también ha concedido el arrepentimiento hasta la Vida Eterna a los Gentiles”. (Ve nota final)
d) Judíos creyentes que habían sido bautizados por Juan el Bautista (Hechos 19): El apóstol Pablo se reunió con un grupo de hombres judíos que habían creído en Jehová bajo el Antiguo Pacto y fueron bautizados por Juan el Bautista. Juan sólo bautizó a los creyentes en Jehová, no a las hipócritas. Entonces ellos ya eran salvados; sin embargo, no sabían nada acerca del Espíritu Santo. Entonces Pablo enseñó a estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto que debían ser bautizados en el Nombre de Jesús; lo cual hicieron, y hablaron en lenguas después de vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo. El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto en Jehová de que Jesucristo era en verdad el Mesías y que habían recibido su Espíritu Santo. Es posible que esta señal se repitiera a otros seguidores de Juan el Bautista durante el primer siglo, pero no hay registro de ello en la Biblia. Pero los seguidores de Juan el Bautista eran un número muy limitado de personas en el mundo en aquellos días. Una vez que escucharon las noticias sobre Jesucristo y este milagro, no hubo necesidad de que Dios se las repitiera.
El punto es que en cada uno de estos cuatro casos, el don de hablar en las lenguas extranjeras sin entrenamiento fue un signo para los judíos (o gentiles conversos a Israel) quienes eran creyentes bajo el Antiguo Pacto o judíos que ya creían en Cristo! ¡Nunca fue una señal para los gentiles!
Entonces, esto significa que hoy en día, hablar en lenguas no es de Dios, porque la señal del don de lenguas fue siempre y sólo para los judíos bajo el Antiguo Pacto, ¡no para los gentiles! Los judíos de hoy están siendo persuadidos a confiar en Jesucristo mediante la predicación del Evangelio: No por supuestos milagros ni por los dones de lenguas, porque no hay judíos vivos hoy que hayan creído bajo el Antiguo Pacto: ¡eso fue hace 2.000 años! Así que hoy hablar en lenguas es innecesario y antibíblico.
Este estudio: Las lenguas y la iglesia en Corinto
Ahora echemos un breve vistazo a la Asamblea (o iglesia) de Corinto y algunos de sus errores teológicos. Esta iglesia era un desastre terrible.
1) La iglesia en Corinto estaba llena de creyentes orgullosos y espiritualmente inmaduros (carnales y egoístas) que dividían su iglesia en torno a personalidades de “predicadores estrellas”.
I Corintios 1:12-13: “Ahora esto digo, que cada uno de ustedes dice: “Yo soy de Pablo”, y “Yo de Apolos”, y “Yo de Cefas”, y “Yo de Cristo”. ¿Está dividido Cristo? ¿Fue crucificado Pablo por ustedes? ¿O fuisteis bautizados en el nombre de Pablo?”.
1 Corintios 3:2-4: “Os di a beber leche, y no carne: porque aún no podíais digerirla, ni aún ahora podéis: porque aún sois carnales. Pues habiendo entre ustedes celos, y contiendas, y divisiones, ¿no sois carnales, y andáis como hombres? Porque cuando uno dice, “Soy de Pablo”; y otro, “Yo de Apolos”; ¿no sois carnales?”.
1 Corintios 4:18-21: “Pero algunos están envanecidos, como si nunca hubiese yo de ir a ustedes. Pero iré pronto a ustedes, si el Señor quiere; y conoceré, no las palabras de los que andan envanecidos, sino el poder: porque el Reino de Dios no consiste en palabras, sino en poder. ¿Qué queréis? ¿Iré a ustedes con vara? O en amor, y espíritu de mansedumbre?”.
Suena familiar, ¿no? Tenemos el mismo problema hoy en la mayoría de las iglesias, ¡incluso en las mejores! Algunos cristianos son celosos de aprender la doctrina, por lo que se apegan a los “predicadores estrella”: compran sus libros, sus cintas/CD, escuchan sus sermones, etc. ¡Creen que “su predicador estrella” camina sobre el agua y es lo más parecido a Dios mismo! Yo también era así cuando era joven creyente en Cristo.
“Me gusta Bob Jones”; “Me gusta Jack Hyles”; “Me gusta John MacArthur”, etc.
Como joven creyente en Cristo, no hay nada malo en comprar libros y grabaciones de predicadores famosos hasta cierto punto; ¡Pero nunca debes convertir a ningún predicador en un ídolo! Podrían ser hombres de Dios y servidores del Altísimo; pero recuerda siempre que son SÓLO HOMBRES, y nada más. ¡Nunca olvides eso! ¡Mantén tus ojos en Jesucristo y su Palabra! Los humanos siempre te fallarán tarde o temprano; ¡pero Jesucristo NUNCA te fallará! Amén.
Uno de sus miembros se había acostado con su madre; ¡Y la iglesia estaba orgullosa!
I Corintios 5:1-2: Se dice comúnmente que hay fornicación entre ustedes, y tal fornicación cual ni aun se nombra entre los gentiles, que alguien tiene la esposa de su padre. Pero ustedes estáis orgullosos y no os habéis lamentado más bien, para que el que ha hecho esto acción podría ser excomulgado de entre ustedes”.
En otras palabras, uno de los miembros de su iglesia estaba viviendo en un pecado vil, ¡y la iglesia estaba orgullosa de ello! Pablo les ordenó excomulgarlo y limpiar a la iglesia desde su maldad.
I Corintios 5:3-5: “Porque verdaderamente (como ausente en cuerpo, pero presente en espíritu) yo ya he juzgado, como si yo estuviera presente, concerniente a él que ha hecho esto acción: en el Nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, cuando ustedes están reunidos, y mi espíritu, con el poder de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, para entregar tal un uno a Satanás para la destrucción de la carne, para que el espíritu puede ser salvado en el día del Señor Jesús”.
¡La iglesia estaba bebiendo alcohol y festejando durante la Mesa del Señor!
I Corintios 11:17-22: “Pero en esto que os declaro, no os alabo: porque os reunís no para lo mejor, sino para lo peor. Pues en primer lugar, cuando os reunís en la Asamblea, oigo que hay entre ustedes divisiones; y en parte lo creo: porque es necesario que también entre ustedes haya herejías, para que los que son aprobados se manifiesten entre ustedes. Por lo tanto, cuando os reunís en el mismo lugar, no estáis verdaderamente comiendo la cena del Señor: porque al comer, cada uno toma antes que los demás su propia cena; y uno tiene hambre, y otro está borracho. ¿Qué? No tenéis casas en que comáis y bebáis? ¿O menospreciáis la Asamblea de Dios y avergonzáis a los que no tienen? ¿Qué os diré? ¿Os alabaré en esto? No os alabo”.
En otras palabras, estos niños creyentes se emborrachaban y se daban un festín con comida durante la celebración de la Mesa del Señor, lo cual es obviamente repugnante e incorrecto. ¡Es evidente que estos creyentes estaban practicando muchos errores bíblicos! Y esto nos da una gran comprensión de sus abusos y malentendidos acerca del don señal de hablar en lenguas.
¿Estaban los gentiles hablando en lenguas bíblicas en la iglesia de Corinto?
En el Libro de los Hechos, el don de señal de hablar en lenguas (hablar en las lenguas extranjeras sin entrenamiento) era SÓLO para los judíos, y nunca para los gentiles, Entonces, ¿qué debemos concluir que estaba sucediendo en la Asamblea de Corinto?
Aquí está la respuesta, y a muchos no les gustará, pero es la verdad: ¡Los cristianos (que nacieron como gentiles) en Corinto no estaban hablando en la señal don de lenguas! Estaban hablando en galimatías (hablando tonterías e.g. “Seem salabim, honda bowtie honda bowtie”, pensando falsamente que estaban hablando en lenguas como los Apóstoles en Hechos 2; o hablaban en las lenguas extranjeras reales que habían aprendido mediante entrenamiento (latín, griego o hebreo; y tal vez otros lenguas del imperio romano en esa época); y pensaban falsamente que hablaban en las lenguas de Hechos 2!
¡No hay otra conclusión a la que podamos llegar cuando entendamos del Libro de los Hechos que el don de señales de hablar en lenguas estaba restringida única y exclusivamente a los judíos! Esta iglesia estaba llena de errores doctrinales, especialmente en su comprensión de lo que significaba hablar en lenguas.
¡Nunca se necesitó ningún intérprete en el Libro de los Hechos!
Hay una diferencia importante entre los eventos en el Libro de los Hechos y lo que Pablo escribió en 1 Corintios: ¡En todos los casos en el Libro de los Hechos, nunca se necesitó ningún intérprete!
Piense en eso: ¿alguien en Hechos 2, 8, 10 o 19 necesitaba interpretar lo que decían las personas que hablaban en lenguas? ¡No! ¡Porque las lenguas que se hablaban a través del Espíritu Santo podían ser entendidas por las personas que estaban presentes! Evidentemente, la audiencia en todos los casos tenía conocimiento de las lenguas que se hablaban; o quizás el Espíritu Santo hizo la traducción, así fue un milagro de Dios; y no se necesitó ningún intérprete.
Pedro no necesitaba interpretar lo que los Apóstoles y la iglesia primitiva decían en lenguas en Hechos 2, ¡porque los judíos a quienes Dios quería alcanzar con su milagro de lenguas podían entender fácilmente lo que se decía! En otras palabras, ¡no eran galimatías ni tonterías!
Hechos 2:7-11: “Y todos estaban atónitos y maravillados, diciéndose unos a otros, “Mirad, ¿no son galileos todos estos que hablan? ¿Cómo, pues, les oímos nosotros hablar cada uno en nuestra lengua en la que hemos nacido? Partos y medos, y elamitas, y los que habitamos en Mesopotamia, en Judea y en Capadocia, en el Ponto y en Asia, en Frigia y Panfilia, en Egipto y en las partes de Libia que está más allá de Cirene, y Romanos extranjeros, tanto judíos como prosélitos, cretenses y araabes, les oímos hablar en nuestras lenguas las maravillas de Dios”.
¡Ni Pedro ni Juan ni ninguno de los samaritanos interpretaron lo que los samaritanos decían en lenguas! ¡Ni Cornelio, ni su familia, ni Pedro interpretaron lo que decían! ¡Ni Pablo ni ninguno de los 12 seguidores de Juan el Bautista interpretaron lo que decían! No tenían que hacerlo, porque cualquier lenguas que se dijera en lenguas, ¡lo entendían las personas presentes! ¡Así que no necesitaban intérprete!
¡Pero en 1 Corintios leemos algo completamente diferente!
I Corintios 14:5: “Ahora quiero que todos hablen con las lenguas [extranjeras], pero desearía más bien que profetizarais: porque mayor es el que profetiza que el que habla en lenguas [extranjeras], a no ser que las interprete, para que la Asamblea reciba edificación”.
Ahora, si entendemos que Pablo enseñó a los creyentes gentiles en Corintios a controlar estrictamente su práctica de hablar en lenguas extranjeras reales, para que nadie pueda hacerlo a menos que tenga un intérprete presente, entonces tiene mucho sentido. ¡Eso es lo que hacemos hoy en las iglesias que creen a la Biblia! Cuando llega a la iglesia un orador que habla un lengua extranjera (tal como el alemán, el francés o el español), debe haber un intérprete presente, para que todos en la iglesia puedan entender lo que él está diciendo. De lo contrario, ¿de qué sirve? ¡Él hablará en el aire!
Todo el propósito de la predicación es para comunicar la Palabra de Dios y su significado a la gente de la iglesia o a tu audiencia, dondequiera que esté. Por eso, un intérprete es muy importante cuando se habla ante una audiencia que no te entiende.
Pablo enseñó que hablar en un lengua extranjera en la iglesia requiere la presencia de un intérprete
Ahora, leamos algunos de los textos en 1 Corintios 14:1-40 para ver si ahora tienen sentido. I added the word [foreign] in italics to the Kingdom Study Bible text to show that it was added to help the understanding.
I Corintios 14:2: “porque el que habla en lengua [extranjera], no habla a los hombres, sino a Dios; pues nadie le entiende, aunque en espíritu hable misterios”.
I Corintios 14:9: “Así también ustedes, a menos que pronuncies con la lengua palabras fáciles de entender, ¿cómo se sabrá lo que se dice? Porque hablaréis en al aire”.
¡Exactamente! ¿Por qué querrías hablar en español ante una audiencia que no entiende español? ¡Sería lo mismo que hablar al aire! Aunque estoy hablando de misterios espirituales de las Escrituras, nada de eso tiene sentido para la audiencia.
I Corintios 14:3-4: “Pero el que profetiza, habla a los hombres para edificación, y exhortación, y consolación. El que habla en lengua [extranjera], a sí mismo se edifica; pero el que profetiza, edifica a la Asamblea”.
Pero si hay un intérprete de español que puede traducir esas palabras a la lengua de la audiencia, entonces la audiencia de creyentes recibirá fortalecimiento espiritual (edificación), exhortación y consuelo.
Pablo dijo que hablar en las lenguas extranjeras es una gran cosa; pero predicar en la lengua de su audiencia es mucho más importante, porque trae beneficio a los oyentes.
Si hablas u oras en galimatías, ¡será mejor que puedas interpretarlo para que tu audiencia pueda entenderlo! El galimatías ni siquiera beneficia a quien lo dice, porque no lo entiende en absoluto.
I Corintios 14:13-14: “Por tanto, el que habla en lengua [falsa], ore para poder interpretar; porque si oro en lengua [falsa], mi espíritu ora, pero mi entendimiento es infructuoso”.
¿La lengua de oración privado?
¡No existe tal cosa como un “la lengua de oración privado” en el que se “habla en lenguas” en privado! Esta es otra enseñanza no bíblica que se enseña en las iglesias carismáticas.Porque el verdadero hablar en lenguas sólo ocurrió en el Libro de los Hechos, y siempre fue hecho por judíos o conversos a Israel, y cesó después de Hechos 19:1-7, por lo tanto hablar en lenguas en cualquier contexto no es de Dios hoy, ¡punto! ¡El galimatías nunca es una forma aceptable de comunicarse con Dios!
Además, ¡hablar en lenguas en el Libro de los Hechos nunca ocurrió en privado! Siempre fue público, porque debía ser una señal para los judíos. ¿Cómo podría ser una señal para alguien, si las lenguas se dan en privado? Por supuesto, no puede ser.
¿Puedes aprender a hablar en lenguas?
Cuando vivía en el área de Virginia Beach, Virginia, en la década de 1980, una de las grandes iglesias carismáticas del lugar era notorio por enseñar a los miembros de su iglesia a hablar en lenguas. ¿Es esto válido?
¿A alguien en el Libro de los Hechos se le tuvo que enseñar a hablar en lenguas? No. ¿Hay algún texto en I Corintios que sugiera que los cristianos deberían comenzar a repetir sílabas hasta que se sientan superados por “el espíritu” y comiencen a cantar galimatías? No.
¡Las iglesias carismáticas tienen tanto error y herejía que lo mejor que puedes hacer es evitarlos por completo! ¡No son iglesias cristianas! Amén.
¿Cuál es la forma correcta de cantar, orar y predicar en la iglesia o en cualquier otro lugar?
I Corintios 14:15: “¿Entonces que es? Oraré con el espíritu, y oraré también con el entendimiento; Cantaré con el espíritu, y cantaré también con el entendimiento”.
¡Por encima de todas las cosas, Dios quiere que tanto los oradores como los oyentes entiendan lo que están orando, cantando y predicando! ¡Si cada iglesia hiciera lo que dice la Biblia en este texto, ni habría ningún movimiento carismático o pentecostal! Amén.
Resumen
¡Debemos darnos cuenta de que cuando los cristianos se desvían de la Palabra de Dios de esta manera, Satanás y sus demonios se involucrarán en lo que están haciendo! Satanás está más que feliz de darles a los “hermanos ignorantes” una “experiencia espiritual” cuando hablan galimatías, ¡para que se sientan confirmados en su creencia de que lo que están haciendo es de Dios! ¡Estas “experiencias espirituales” son de demonios y no desde el Dios de la Biblia!
¡Tristemente, muchos carismáticos y pentecostales no nacen realmente de nuevo! Creo que algunos son verdaderamente salvados, pero el poder del engaño carismático de Satanás es tan poderoso que incluso cuando tomas la Biblia y les explicas estas cosas, a menudo dirán: “¡No me importa lo que diga la Biblia! ¡He tenido la experiencia de hablar en lenguas, ¡así que SÉ que es de Dios!” Sólo un milagro de Dios puede abrir los ojos de una persona que está cegada de esta manera por Satanás.
Tengo mi esperanza de que muchos carismáticos y pentecostales lean este estudio y se den cuenta de que han sido engañados, se arrepientan y se vuelvan al Señor Jesús para ser salvados; o para arreglar las cosas con su Salvador en este asunto. ¡Oren mucho por estas personas! Un engaño satánico en la religión es como una telaraña de engaño de la que es difícil salir.
¡Así que he demostrado con la Biblia que el movimiento carismático actual no es de Dios! ¡Ningún creyente que quiera agradar a Dios y hacer su voluntad debería tener algo que ver con eso! Si su iglesia tiene gente de pie y hablando en galimatías o si el pastor está guiando a la iglesia a hablar en galimatías sin sentido; y afirman que están “hablando en lenguas”, entonces usted necesita dejar esa iglesia y encontrar una iglesia Bautista, Fundamental, Independiente, que crea a la Biblia. AMÉN.

¡Como ser salvado!
Amigo, ¿has estado atrapado en los engaños carismáticos de “Hablar en lenguas”, “Matar en el espíritu”, “Alargamiento de piernas”, “Risa santa”, “Plantar una semilla de dinero con un evangelista de la televisión para que Dios te dé más dinero”? ¡Este movimiento está lleno de engaños, fraudes y mentiras satánicos! ¡Arrepiéntete de tus oraciones en galimatías! ¡Dios quiere que le oremos en nuestra propia lengua!
I Corintios 14:15: “¿Qué, entonces, es [la forma correcta]? Oraré con el espíritu, y oraré también con el entendimiento; Cantaré con el espíritu, y cantaré también con el entendimiento”.
Además, ¿estás seguro de que has nacido de nuevo y de que sabes que irás al cielo cuando mueras? La mayoría de los predicadores carismáticos enseñan que puedes confiar en Cristo y ser salvado, pero luego tienes que “aferrarte” a Jesús o te perderás para siempre. ¡Ésta es otra mentira que es común en este movimiento!
Juan 10:27-30: Jesus said, ““Mis ovejas oyen mi voz, y yo las conozco, y me siguen; y estoy dando continuamente a ellos Vida Eterna, y ellos nunca, jamás perecerán, ni nadie las arrebatará de mi mano. Mi Padre que me las dio, es mayor que todos, y nadie las puede arrebatar desde la mano de mi Padre. Yo y mi Padre uno somos”.
¿Escuchas la voz del Maestro llamándote hoy a Él? ¡Arrepiéntete y vuélvete a Jesucristo con todo tu corazón y toda tu alma! Jesús pagó nuestros pecados en la cruz con su Sangre expiatoria, fue sepultado y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día, para que tengamos Vida Eterna cuando muramos: ¡si creemos, nos arrepentimos y confiamos en Él!
Juan 3:14-16: Jesus said, “Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, aun así, el Hijo del hombre debe ser levantado; que cualquiera que cree en él no deberían perecer, sino tener Vida Eterna: porque Dios amó tanto al mundo, que él dio a su Hijo unigénito, que cualquiera que cree en él no deberían perecer, sino tener Vida Eterna”.
Él es el Hijo de Dios y os llama hoy a Él. Aquí hay una oración que puedes usar para ser salvado y SABER que tienes Vida Eterna:
“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
Además, si has estado involucrado en el movimiento carismático de hablar en lenguas, ¡entonces has estado profundamente involucrado en actividad demoníaca! Así que también necesitas pedirle al Señor Jesucristo que te libere de los espíritus malignos asociados con hablar en lenguas y todo lo que hay en este movimiento maligno. Encuentra una iglesia Bautista Fundamental e Independiente a la que asistir regularmente y sirva a Cristo con todo su corazón allí; y Dios te bendecirá! Nota final
Hechos 11:13-14: Peter said, “el cual nos contó cómo había visto en su casa al Ángel, que se puso en pie, y le dijo, ‘Envía hombres a Jope, y haz venir a Simón, que tiene por sobrenombre Pedro; el cual te hablará palabras por las cuales serás salvado tú, y toda tu casa’”.
Cornelio y su familia ya fueron salvados (o justificados) a través de su fe en Jehová bajo el Antiguo Pacto; sin embargo, no fueron completos en su salvación porque no habían creído en Cristo antes de que Pedro viniera a hablarles. De modo que este texto simplemente muestra que Cornelio y su familia fueron completamente “salvados” cuando creyeron en Cristo: es decir, su fe en Jehová se volvió completa. No significa que antes eran paganos y fueron salvados en el mismo sentido que un pecador se salva hoy cuando se arrepiente y confía en Cristo como su Salvador.
El contexto es muy claro: Cornelio y su familia ya eran creyentes en Jehová. Note también que el Espíritu Santo cayó sobre ellos mientras Pedro estaba predicando, y no hicieron la oración de un pecador para ser salvados (Romanos 10:8-13), Lo mismo que Hechos 2:38, donde Pedro estaba predicando a judíos que también habían sido salvados bajos el Antiguo Pacto, pero cuya fe no era completa hasta que creyeron en Cristo el Hijo de Dios.
¡Ya eran salvados, pero su salvación estaba incompleta! Sólo necesitaban redirigir su fe en Jehová a Jesucristo el Hijo de Dios.
