Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

I am taking a brief detour from this chapter to focus on the biblical sign gift of speaking in tongues. Since about 1900 A.D., Satan has succeeded in creating a wildfire of false teaching about speaking in tongues; and his attack has succeeded in corrupting and destroying thousands of churches and the spiritual life of Christians around the world.
The claim by most Charismatics and Pentecostals is that speaking in tongues is the evidence that you have received the Holy Spirit; therefore, if you haven’t spoken in tongues, then you really are not a Christian, even if you have repented of your sins and trusted in Christ as your Savior. But is this a claim that is based on the Bible, or not? I believe that the evidence is powerful that it is not Biblical.
All of the answers to the questions about speaking in tongues are found in a correct understanding of the Old and New Covenants; and how God guided the transition from the Old to the New through the events in the Book of Acts, using the sign gift of tongues (speaking in a foreign language without training). First, let’s look at the Old Covenant and what that was all about.
The Old Covenant
The indwelling of the Holy Spirit was unknown to the believers in Jehovah God under the Old Covenant. I showed in the previous study that they were familiar with the “upon” and the “filling” ministries of the Holy Spirit, but not the indwelling, which is when the Holy Spirit comes into the sinner the instant that he repents and believes in Jesus Christ as his Savior and calls upon Him to save his soul.
Before the Law of Moses, sinners could be saved by offering a burnt offering of a sheep by faith to Jehovah (Genesis 4:4; 12:8; 22:13; Job 1:5).
Under the Law of Moses, sinners of all nations could be saved if they believed in Jehovah, the God of the Jews, repented of their sins; and then demonstrated their faith and repentance by offering the required animal sacrifices in the Tabernacle; or later, in the Temple of Jehovah in Jerusalem.
In response, Jehovah forgave their sins and they became the children of Jehovah God by faith in Him, but they were not “born again”. When they died, they went to the Paradise side of Sheol (the bosom of Abraham Luke 16:22-23). After Christ died on the cross to fulfill all of the types of the Old Covenant, the sins of these Old Covenant believers were finally atoned for, and Christ took these Old Covenant believers into Heaven with Him (Ephesians 4:8-9).
The animal sacrifices were a type of Christ until Christ came to fulfill the Old Covenant and complete their faith in Jehovah with faith in Jesus Christ, the Jehovah-Man.
Matthew 5:17: “Do not think that I have come to destroy the Law, or the Prophets. I have not come to destroy, but to fulfill”
John 19:30: “Therefore when Jesus had received the vinegar, he said, ‘It has been fulfilled!’”
The New Covenant
Sinners of all nations can be saved if they believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God, that He atoned for all of our sins on the cross, that He was buried for 3 days and rose up from the dead on the third day. If a sinner believes these things, and then repents and calls upon the Name of the Lord, he shall be saved!
Romans 10:9-13: “that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”
In response, Jehovah God forgives the sins of the sinner, and he becomes a child of Jehovah God, and they are instantly born again.
God places the new believer in Christ into the Kingdom of God (John 3:3-5), which is the spiritual plane where God rules all. The kingdom of Satan is a subset of the Kingdom of God, because the devil can only operate within the will of God (Job 1:6 - 2:6). But the believer in Christ is outside of and separated from the kingdom of Satan.
God also adopts the new believer in Christ into the Family of God: which is the Trinity of God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), plus all believers from Old and New Covenants, both living and dead. The Family of God is inside of the Kingdom of God, but outside of the kingdom of Satan.
There is much more that could be said; but I will do that in future studies.
The transition period between the Old Covenant and the New Covenant
Now, between these two covenants, both of which were with the Jews, and ONLY the Jews (not the Gentiles), there was a period of transition from one to the other during the Book of Acts, after the resurrection of Jesus Christ (Acts 1:1-3).
Now, the New Covenant started with the crucifixion, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead; however, Israel was a nation of millions of Jews living at that time, who had been trying (and largely failing) to live according to the Law of Moses. They had a Temple in Jerusalem with the priests of Aaron, who followed the Law of Moses with regard to offering animal sacrifices in the Temple in accordance with the Law of Moses.
These people had been living under the Law of Moses for about 1,500 years for dozens of generations; so it is completely understandable that they would be skeptical of any claims that God had canceled the Old Covenant and replaced it with something completely different (faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross).
They needed special miracles from God to confirm that this change was truly from their Covenant God, Jehovah; so God gave them the miraculous sign gift of speaking in foreign languages without training as a powerful signal (like a big sign beside the highway) to his people that the Old Covenant was finished and the New Covenant had begun.
1 Corinthians 14:20-21: “Brethren, do not be children in understanding ... in the Law it is written, “‘With men of other languages and other lips will I speak to THIS PEOPLE [The Jews]; and yet for all that they will not listen to me,’ says [Jehovah].’”
Christians today do not understand the context of the Book of Acts
When I was a young believer in Christ, I read the beginning of the Book of Acts as
“Peter and the Apostles were the only ones who were saved; everyone else was lost and didn’t know God at all”.
So I tried to understand these events in Acts as we would look at sinners today who hear the Gospel, repent of their sins, believe in Jesus Christ, call on Him to save them, and they are saved.
I have since come to understand that this view was completely wrong in several places in Acts (such as Acts 2:38, 8:12-19, 10:44-48, and 19:1-7), because it doesn’t take into account the reality of the Jewish religion in the days of Jesus Christ.
Similar to today, the faith of Jehovah in Israel (or Judea) had both true and false believers.
Romans 9:6b-8: “for they are not all Israel, which are of Israel; neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children; but, “In Isaac shall your seed be called.” That is to say, they which are the children of the flesh: these are not the children of God; but the children of the promise are counted for the seed”
There were many in Judea in the days of Christ who were the children of God, who had trusted in Jehovah through the system of animal sacrifices and the priesthood of Aaron in the Temple in Jerusalem. These people were saved, just like you or I (if you have been born again).
The apostles of Jesus were good examples of these Jews; they did not have to repent and trust in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross, because they were already the children of God by faith in Jehovah, so all they had to do was to believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah; and follow Him.
Matthew 4:18-20: “And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea: for they were fishermen. And he says to them, “Follow me; and I will make you fishers of men.” And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.”
So, Jehovah, the God of Israel, had an obligation by his Covenant with them, to move these people (who were his children by faith) from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant in Jesus Christ their Messiah. He wasn’t going to just cut them off without giving them an opportunity to complete their faith in Him with faith in Jesus Christ, their Messiah: Jehovah God in the flesh.
God gave two things to help these Jews move from the Old Covenant to the New: the Letter to the Hebrews and the sign gift of speaking in tongues.
After the crucifixion and resurrection of Christ, these children of God under the Old Covenant had a new problem that they had never faced before:
1) The Way of Salvation through the Temple and the animal sacrifices was now shut forever. If they came to the Temple to offer animal sacrifices to Jehovah in obedience to the Law, Jehovah no longer accepted them! So they had no way to have their sins forgiven with God (except through Christ, in whom they did not yet believe), and as time moved on and their sins continued to accumulate without forgiveness, the anger of God at their sins became greater and greater! So these Jews were now in trouble with God! Inevitably, the judgment of God would fall on these Jews, if they refused to repent and believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah.
2) God gave these Jews 40 years from the Resurrection of Christ in 30 A.D. to repent of their unbelief in Christ and trust in Him as their Messiah. At the end of those 40 years, God sent the Roman army of Titus to Jerusalem, and he razed it and the Temple to the ground. In the process of this war, over 1 million Jews perished in the destruction of Jerusalem. The Jews were also scattered from the land of Israel to many nations.
So the period of transition between the Old and New Covenant was a time of testing for these Jews who had been saved under the Old Covenant, but were now out of fellowship with Jehovah their God, because the old Way to God was closed forever.
During this time, God gave the Letter to the Hebrews by inspiration through the Apostle Paul; and it was written to these Old Covenant Jews, to explain why the sacrifice of animals through the Temple and the priesthood of Aaron was now obsolete under the New Covenant; and also to urge them to embrace Jesus Christ as their Messiah, or receive the wrath of God for their rebellion:
Hebrews 6:1-2: “Therefore, leaving the basics of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on to completeness [in the New Covenant]: not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward [Jehovah] God; of the doctrine of washings, and of laying of hands [on the animal sacrifice], and of resurrection of the dead, and of Eternal Judgment.”
Hebrews 10:26-31: “For if we deliberately continue sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remains no more sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful looking for judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ Law died without mercy under two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, shall he be thought worthy, who has trodden the Son of God under his foot; and has counted the blood of the Covenant, with which he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him that has said, “‘Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay,’ says [Jehovah].” And again, “[Jehovah] shall judge his people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.”
The Lord Jesus Christ had become the final sacrifice for all sins; and also after He was raised from the dead, He became the new High Priest according to Melchisedec (Hebrews 4:14 - 7:28).

God gave the sign gift of tongues on four specific occasions in the Book of Acts
God also gave the sign gift of speaking in foreign languages without training during this period as a sign to the Jews that Jesus was their Messiah; and that they should transfer their faith from the sacrifice of animals in the Temple to the Final Sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross, and follow the Risen Christ as their Messiah and Lord.
1) Acts 2:1-4: The Apostles and the first members of the early Assembly in Jerusalem (all Jews) spoke in tongues (about 120 people). This was a sign from God to the 3,000 saved Jews in Jerusalem, that Jesus was their Messiah; and they should repent and be baptized in water so that they could receive the Holy Spirit. Not to be saved, but to receive the Spirit, because they were already saved, but they were not indwelt by the Spirit yet. Very important! It was also a sign to all Jews that Jesus was their Messiah.
2) Acts 8:12-19: Philip preached the Gospel to the Samaritans, many of whom had already believed in Jesus Christ when Jesus visited them years earlier (John 4:1-42). They were baptized, but did not receive the Spirit until the Apostles Peter and John laid hands on them. The Bible doesn’t say specifically; but suggests strongly that the Samaritans did speak in tongues.
The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to the Apostles that the Samaritans who believed were now the children of God by faith in Jesus Christ. This was very important for Jewish people, because the Samaritans were despised by the Jews in general, because of their genetic heritage.
3) Acts 10:44-48: Cornelius was a Gentile who had become a believer in Jehovah under the Old Covenant, so he was not really a Gentile, but a Jewish convert; and his entire family believed in Jehovah with him; so all of them were already saved [Acts 10:2]! However, their faith needed to be made complete in Jesus Christ, so God sent Peter to preach the Gospel to them, and they all believed and spoke in tongues when the Holy Spirit fell ON them. The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to the Apostles that God wanted the Gospel to be preached to Gentiles as well as the Jews.
Acts 11:15-18: “And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then I remembered the Word of the Lord, how that he said, ‘John indeed baptized in water; but you shall be baptized in the Holy Spirit.’ Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did to us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ, what was I, that I could withstand God?” When they heard these things, they held their peace; and they glorified God, saying, “Then God has also granted repentance into Eternal Life to the Gentiles.”
4) Acts 19:1-7: The Apostle Paul met a group of Jewish men who had believed in Jehovah under the Old Covenant, and were baptized by John the Baptist. So they were already saved; however, they did not know anything about the Holy Spirit. So Paul taught these Old Covenant believers that they should be baptized in the Name of Jesus; which they did, and they spoke with tongues after the Holy Spirit came on them.
The purpose of tongues in this situation was to be a sign to these Old Covenant believers in Jehovah (Jews) that Jesus Christ was indeed the Messiah, and that they had received his Holy Spirit.
In each of these four cases, the sign gift of speaking in foreign languages without training was a sign to believing Jews! It was never a sign to Gentiles or even to unbelievers in general!
There was no need for these events of speaking in tongues to be repeated; they ceased because they were no longer needed
In each of these four cases (except possibly the last one), there was never any need to repeat the outpouring of the Holy Spirit with speaking in tongues to anyone else in these groups:
1) After this event in Acts 2:1-4, the church in Jerusalem had an open door in Jerusalem and Judea to preach the Gospel to the Jews, so they did not need to speak in tongues again.
2) In Acts 8:12-19, the entire city of Samaria all spoke in tongues, which was a sign to the Apostles that the Samaritans were the true children of God now; so there was no need to repeat this event again.
3) After the events in Acts 10:44-48, the Jewish Christians all knew that God wanted them to take the Gospel to the Gentiles, so there was no need to repeat this event ever again.
4) Now this event was a sign to the Jewish believers under the Old Covenant who had been baptized by John the Baptist; and it was a local event. It is POSSIBLE that this event occurred again with other Jewish believers under the Old Covenant who had been baptized by John the Baptist, but it is also possible that it did not. In any event, sooner or later, all similar believers who had been baptized by John the Baptist no doubt heard the news that they must believe in Jesus Christ; and so the need for speaking in tongues as a sign to these people soon ended, because it no longer had any purpose!
I Corinthians 13:8-10: “Selfless love never ceases; but whether there are prophecies, they shall come to an end; whether there are gifts of foreign languages, they shall cease of their own accord; whether there is knowledge, it shall also come to an end. For we know in part; and we prophesy in part. But when that which is complete has come, then that which is in part shall be done away.”
God did NOT give the sign gift of tongues during the Transition period to most believers in Christ
1 Corinthians 14:20-21: “Brethren, do not be children in understanding (nevertheless in malice be children, but in understanding be men): in the Law it is written, “‘With men of other languages and other lips will I speak to THIS PEOPLE [the Jews]; and yet for all that they will not listen to me,’ says [Jehovah].’”
“This people” = the Jews who were saved under the Old Covenant, but did not yet believe in Jesus Christ as their Messiah.
God gave the sign gift of speaking in foreign languages without training (not gibberish or nonsense talk) as a SIGN to those Jews (and ONLY THE JEWS) that Jesus was their Messiah, and they needed to move from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant, or face the Judgment of God!
God gave these Jews 40 years to believe or be destroyed; and unfortunately, many did not believe in Christ and were destroyed by the army of Titus.
Now, let’s look at the cases where God did NOT give the sign gift of speaking in tongues.
There are at least 18 specific cases in the Book of Acts where sinners received Jesus Christ as their Savior, but they did not speak in tongues! No sign gift was given by God, according to the text of the Word of God. Look up these texts if you want to read them for yourself.

1) The 3,000 Old Covenant Jews who heard the message of Peter in Acts 2:14-36 repented and were baptized in the Name of Jesus Christ and received the Holy Spirit; but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
2) In Acts 4:4, about 5,000 Old Covenant Jews (plus women and children possibly) believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
3) Acts 8:26-39: Philip preached the Gospel to the Ethiopian Eunuch (a convert to the Jewish faith); he was believed in Christ and was baptized; but there is no record that he spoke in tongues!
4) Acts 9:1-20: Saul of Tarsus (later, the Apostle Paul) met Jesus Christ on the road to Damascus and was saved. In Damascus, he was baptized by Ananias, but there is no record that Saul ever spoke in tongues!
5) Acts 9:35: All that lived in Lydda and Saron turned to Christ, but there is no record of anyone speaking in tongues!
6) Acts 9:42: Peter raised Tabitha from the dead, and many believed in Christ; but there is no record of anyone speaking in tongues!
7) Acts 11:21: Many Gentiles (possibly hundreds) in Antioch turned to Christ and were saved; But there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
8) Acts 11:24: Many were added to the Lord, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
9) Acts 13:12: The governor of Cyprus believed in Christ; but there is no record that he spoke in tongues!
10) Acts 13:43: Some Jews and Jewish converts trusted in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
11) Acts 13:48: Many Gentiles believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
12) Acts 14:1: A great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
13) Acts 16:15: Lydia, a Gentile worshiper of Jehovah, trusted in Christ, but there is no record that she spoke in tongues!
14) Acts 16:25-34: The Philippian jailor and his family all believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
15) Acts 17:4: Some Jews and Gentiles believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
16) Acts 17:12: Many Jews in Berea believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
17) Acts 17:34: A number of Gentiles believed in Christ, but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
18) Acts 18:8: The leader of the synagogue and many Corinthians “hearing the Gospel, believed, and were baptized”; but there is no record that they spoke in tongues!
Now notice that in many of these 18 cases, the number of people were in the thousands! So there were at least 10,000 to 20,000 people who were saved in the Book of Acts who never spoke in tongues; and yet, according to the charismatic false teachers of today, we must speak in tongues or we are not saved; because they claim that speaking in tongues is the evidence that you have received the Holy Spirit.
We know that that was not true of the tens of thousands of Gentiles who were saved or Jews who became completed Jews in the Book of Acts; so where is their authority for saying it is true today? These false teachers are no different than the pope, who makes Dogma with no authority from the Bible whatsoever, but based only on his own word.
Do you see? There are many false teachings today from the charismatic movement. We must test these teachings against what the Bible actually says, or we will be swept away in a sea of heresy!
I John 4:1: “Beloved, believe not every spirit; but test the spirits to see whether they are of God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.”
So, speaking in tongues is NOT evidence that you have received the Holy Spirit! There is no Biblical support for this false teaching.
An argument for tongues that is based on silence from the Bible is extremely weak
Now, some will say, “The Bible doesn’t say that they spoke in tongues, but we know that they did.”
In the case of the Samaritans, I would agree, but only because there is some evidence in the text that strongly suggests that it did happen.
Acts 8:18: “And when Simon saw that through laying on of the Apostles’ hands the Holy Spirit was given...”
But in the eighteen other examples from Acts where tens of thousands of both Jews and Gentiles were saved (or the Jews were completed in their faith), there is no evidence whatsoever that speaking in tongues took place at all.
So in those eighteen examples that I cited, you are assuming that it happened without any evidence; but only because you want to believe that it happened so badly that you are willing to dismiss the lack of evidence in the Bible and claim that it is there, regardless of what the Bible actually says.
An argument from silence is a very weak argument indeed; and a very dangerous one, because anyone can make any claim that they want based on what the Bible doesn’t say. If we allow doctrines that are based on what the Bible doesn’t say, then there is no limit on the evil that can be claimed as truth. This is unacceptable, because you have just opened the door for Satan and his demons into your church and into your life.
Also, the Bible says clearly that we should only allow doctrines based on what the Bible actually says, not what it doesn’t say!
Joshua 1:8: “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it: for only then shall you make your way prosperous, and only then shall you have good success.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17: “All Scripture is God-breathed; and is beneficial for doctrine, for rebuke, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness; that the man of God may be complete, and thoroughly equipped for all good work.”
Psalm 119:105: “Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”
Psalm 1:1-4: “Blessed is the man that walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the Law of Jehovah; and in his Law does he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season. Also his leaf shall not wither, and whatsoever he does shall prosper.”
Conclusion
So, if your church claims that everyone in the Book of Acts spoke in tongues, and that you need to follow their example, then you need to understand that there is no biblical support for speaking in tongues today. The evidence from the Bible is clear that the Biblical purpose for the sign gift of tongues was completely fulfilled during the Book of Acts. They ceased, because they are no longer needed.
So what about all of the millions of people “speaking in tongues” today?
The answer should be obvious: if God is not giving the sign gift of speaking in tongues, then who is? It is obviously the devil!
How else can you explain these evil, unbiblical acts and other things that are not found in the Bible and even against the Bible?
1) Hilarious, uncontrollable laughter (called “holy laughter”): is that Biblical? No, it is demonic!
2) Getting on the ground and barking like a dog: is that Biblical? No, it is demonic!
3) “Slaying in the spirit”: the TV evangelist waves his coat and entire rows of people fall down as if they are dead: is that Biblical? No, it is demonic!
4) Uncontrolled outbursts of speaking in gibberish (seem salabim; honda bowtie, honda bowtie...), and not in real human languages: is that Biblical? No, it is demonic!
5) Unproven “miracle cures” and even claims of raising people from the dead; but if true, then why don’t they go into the hospitals and empty them out? Because they wouldn’t make any MONEY!
6) The health and wealth “gospel” with millionaire preachers, and even billionaire TV evangelists like Kenneth Copeland with private jets and mansions. This is not only unbiblical, but it brings reproach upon the Gospel of Jesus Christ!
I Timothy 6:6-10: “But godliness with contentment is great gain: for we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out; and having food and clothing, let us be content with these things. But they that want to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition: for the love of money is the root of all evil; which while some coveted after, they have wandered from the Faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.”
7) “Name it and claim it” teaching that we obtain things by naming it and claiming it: is that Biblical? No, it actually comes from pagan religion.
8) Claims that believers in Jesus are actually “little gods” (similar to Mormonism): is that from God? No, see this study for proof.

9) Leaders of the Charismatic movement (like Kenneth Copeland) urge their followers to unite with the pagan Roman Catholic religion, and they praise the Pope: is that from God? No, it is wickedness!
10) Is the modern Charismatic movement “the latter rain” from God? How can it be from God, when it is full of so much evil?
If any of these items describe your church, then it should be obvious to you that your church is not a church that believes the Bible, and your pastor is preaching a message that is not of God. I urge you to leave your church and find an Independent, Fundamental, Bible-believing, Baptist church to attend regularly and serve the Lord there. Amen.
How to be saved!
John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.’”
John 10:1: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”
You are a slave to Satan and cannot be delivered from your sins, UNLESS you repent of your unbelief in the Bible, your idols and your false gods and turn to Jesus Christ to receive his free gift of Salvation that He died on the cross to provide for you, free of charge!
Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was born of a virgin; He lived a sinless life, and He gave his life on the cross to atone for all of our sins, and He rose again from the dead on the third day.
The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:
Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

Me desviaré brevemente de este capítulo para centrarme en el don de señal bíblico de hablar en lenguas. Desde aproximadamente 1900 d.C., Satanás ha logrado crear un incendio forestal de falsas enseñanzas sobre hablar en lenguas; y su ataque ha logrado corromper y destruir miles de iglesias y la vida espiritual de los cristianos en todo el mundo.
La afirmación de la mayoría de los carismáticos y pentecostales es que hablar en lenguas es la evidencia de que has recibido el Espíritu Santo; por lo tanto, si no has hablado en lenguas, entonces realmente no eres cristiano, incluso si te has arrepentido de tus pecados y confiado en Cristo como tu Salvador. ¿Pero es esta una afirmación basada en la Biblia o no? Creo que la evidencia es poderosa que ello no es bíblica.
Todas las respuestas a las preguntas sobre hablar en lenguas se encuentran en una comprensión correcta del Antiguo y Nuevo Pactos; y cómo Dios guió la transición del Antiguo al Nuevo a través de los eventos en el Libro de los Hechos, utilizando el signo don de lenguas (hablar en una lengua extranjera sin formación). Primero, veamos el Antiguo Pacto y de qué se trataba.
El Antiguo Pacto
La morada del Espíritu Santo era desconocida para los creyentes en Jehová Dios bajo el Antiguo Pacto. En el estudio anterior demostré que estaban familiarizados con los ministerios “sobre” y “llenando” del Espíritu Santo, pero no la morando, que es cuando el Espíritu Santo entra en el pecador en el instante que se arrepiente y cree en Jesucristo como su Salvador y lo invoca para que salve su alma.
Antes de la Ley de Moisés, los pecadores podían salvarse ofreciendo un holocausto de una oveja por fe a Jehová (Génesis 4:4; 12:8; 22:13; Job 1:5).
Bajo la Ley de Moisés, los pecadores de todas las naciones podrían salvarse si creyeran en Jehová, el Dios de los judíos, y se arrepintieran de sus pecados; y luego demostraron su fe y arrepentimiento ofreciendo los sacrificios de animales requeridos en el Tabernáculo; o después, en el Templo de Jehová en Jerusalén.
En respuesta, Jehová perdonó sus pecados y llegaron a ser hijos de Jehová Dios por la fe en Él, pero no “nacieron de nuevo”. Cuando murieron, fueron al lado Paraíso del Seol (el seno de Abraham, Lucas 16:22-23). Después de que Cristo murió en la cruz para cumplir todos los tipos del Antiguo Pacto, Los pecados de estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto finalmente fueron expiados, y Cristo llevó a estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto al Cielo con Él (Efesios 4:8-9).
Los sacrificios de animales eran un tipo de Cristo hasta que Cristo vino a cumplir el Antiguo Pacto y completar la fe de ellos en Jehová con fe en Jesucristo, el Jehová-Hombre.
Mateo 5:17: “Ni penséis que he venido a destruir la Ley, o los Profetas. No he venido a destruir, sino a cumplir”.
Juan 19:30: “Y cuando Jesús tomó el vinagre, dijo, “¡Se ha cumplido!’”.
El nuevo pacto
Los pecadores de todas las naciones pueden ser salvados si creen que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios, que Él expió todos nuestros pecados en la cruz, que fue sepultado por 3 días y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día. Si un pecador cree estas cosas y luego se arrepiente e invoca el Nombre del Señor, ¡será salvado!
Romanos 10:9-13: “que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque está escrito, ‘Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado’”.
En respuesta, Jehová Dios perdona los pecados del pecador, y éste se convierte en hijo de Jehová Dios, y éste nace de nuevo instantáneamente.
Dios coloca al nuevo creyente en Cristo dentro el Reino de Dios (John 3:3-5), que es el plano espiritual donde Dios gobierna todo. El reino de Satanás es un subconjunto del Reino de Dios, porque el diablo sólo puede operar dentro de la voluntad de Dios (Job 1:6 - 2:6). Pero el creyente en Cristo está fuera de y separado del reino de Satanás.
Dios también adopta al nuevo creyente en Cristo dentro la Familia de Dios: que es la Trinidad de Dios (Padre, Hijo y Espíritu Santo), más todos los creyentes del Antiguo y Nuevo Pacto, tanto vivos como muertos. La Familia de Dios está dentro del Reino de Dios, pero fuera del reino de Satanás.
Hay mucho que podría decirse; pero lo haré en futuros estudios.
El período de transición entre el Antiguo Pacto y el Nuevo Pacto
Ahora, entre estos dos pactos, los cuales fueron con los judíos, y SÓLO los judíos (no los gentiles), hubo un período de transición desde uno a otro.
Ahora, el Nuevo Pacto comenzó con la crucifixión, sepultura y resurrección de Jesucristo de entre los muertos; sin embargo, Israel era una nación de millones de judíos que vivían en ese momento y que habían estado intentando (y en gran medida fracasando) vivir de acuerdo con la Ley de Moisés. Tenían un Templo en Jerusalén con los sacerdotes de Aarón, quienes seguían la Ley de Moisés con respecto a ofrecer sacrificios de animales en el Templo de acuerdo con la Ley de Moisés.
Este pueblo había estado viviendo bajo la Ley de Moisés durante unos 1.500 años durante decenas de generaciones; por lo que es completamente comprensible que serian escépticos ante cualquier afirmación de que Dios había cancelado el Antiguo Pacto y lo haya reemplazado con algo completamente diferente (fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz).
Necesitaban milagros especiales de Dios para confirmar que este cambio provenía verdaderamente de su Dios del Pacto, Jehová; entonces Dios les dio la señal milagrosa de hablar en idiomas extranjeros sin entrenamiento como una enorme señal intermitente (como un gran cartel al lado de la carretera) para su pueblo que el Antiguo Pacto había terminado y el Nuevo Pacto había comenzado.
1 Corintios 14:20-21: Hermanos, no seáis niños en el entendimiento;...En la Ley está escrito, “‘En otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré con ESTE PUEBLO [los judíos]; y aún así no me oirán,’ dice [Jehová]”.
Los cristianos de hoy no comprenden el contexto del Libro de los Hechos
Cuando era un joven creyente en Cristo, leí el comienzo del libro de los Hechos como
“Pedro y los Apóstoles fueron los únicos que se salvaron; todos los demás estaban perdidos y no conocían a Dios en absoluto”.
Entonces traté de entender estos eventos en Hechos como miraríamos a los pecadores hoy que escuchan el Evangelio, Entonces traté de entender estos eventos en Hechos como miraríamos a los pecadores hoy que escuchan el Evangelio, se arrepienten de sus pecados, creen en Jesucristo, lo invocan para que los salve y son salvados.
Desde entonces he llegado a comprender que este punto de vista era completamente erróneo en varios lugares de Hechos (tal como Acts 2:38, 8:12-19, 10:44-48, y 19:1-7), porque no toma en cuenta la realidad de la religión judía en los días de Jesucristo.
Al igual que hoy, la fe de Jehová en Israel (o Judea) tenía creyentes tanto verdaderos como falsos.
Romanos 9:6b-8: “porque no son todos Israel, los cuales son de Israel; ni, porque son la simiente de Abraham, son todos hijos; pero, “En Isaac será llamada tu simiente”. Es decir, los que son hijos de la carne: estos no son los hijos de Dios; sino los hijos de la promesa son contadas para la simiente”.
Había muchos en Judea en los días de Cristo que eran hijos de Dios, que habían confiado en Jehová mediante el sistema de sacrificios de animales y el sacerdocio de Aarón en el Templo de Jerusalén. Estas personas fueron salvadas, al igual que tú o yo (si has nacido de nuevo).
Los apóstoles de Jesús fueron buenos ejemplos de estos judíos; no tuvieron que arrepentirse y confiar en la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz, porque ya eran hijos de Dios por la fe en Jehová, así que lo único que tenían que hacer era creer en Jesucristo como su Mesías; y seguirle.
Mateo 4:18-20: “Y Jesús, caminando por el mar de galilea, vio a dos hermanos, Simón (llamado Pedro), y Andrés su hermano, echando una red en el mar, porque eran pescadores. Y les dijo, “Venid en pos de mí, y yo os haré pescadores de hombres”. E inmediatamente dejaron sus redes, y le siguieron”.
Entonces, Jehová, el Dios de Israel, tenía una obligación por su Pacto con ellos, para mover a estas personas (que eran sus hijos por fe) del Antiguo Pacto al Nuevo Pacto en Jesucristo su Mesías. Él no iba a simplemente cortarlos sin darles la oportunidad de completar su fe en Él con la fe en Jesucristo, su Mesías: Jehová Dios encarnado.
Dios dio dos cosas para ayudar a estos judíos a pasar del Antiguo Pacto al Nuevo: la Carta a los Hebreos y el don de señal de hablar en lenguas
Después de la crucifixión y resurrección de Cristo, estos hijos de Dios bajo el Antiguo Pacto tuvieron un nuevo problema que nunca antes habían enfrentado:
1) El Camino de Salvación a través del Templo y los sacrificios de animales ahora estaba cerrado para siempre. Si venían al Templo a ofrecer sacrificios de animales a Jehová en obediencia a la Ley, ¡Jehová ya no los aceptaba! Así que no tenían manera de que Dios les perdonara sus pecados (excepto a través de Cristo, en quien todavía no creían), y a medida que pasaba el tiempo y sus pecados continuaban acumulándose sin perdón, ¡la ira de Dios por sus pecados se hizo cada vez mayor! ¡Así que estos judíos ahora estaban en problemas con Dios! Inevitablemente, el juicio de Dios caería sobre estos judíos si se negaban a arrepentirse y creer en Jesucristo como su Mesías.
2) Dios les dio a estos judíos 40 años desde la Resurrección de Cristo en el año 30 d.C. para arrepentirse de su incredulidad en Cristo y confiar en Él como su Mesías. Al final de esos 40 años, Dios envió el ejército romano de Tito a Jerusalén, y la arrasó junto con el Templo hasta los cimientos. En el proceso de esta guerra, más de un millón de judíos perecieron en la destrucción de Jerusalén. Los judíos también fueron esparcidos de la tierra de Israel a muchas naciones.
Entonces, el período de transición entre el Antiguo y el Nuevo Pacto fue un tiempo de prueba para estos judíos que habían sido salvados bajos el Antiguo Pacto, pero ahora estaban fuera de comunión con Jehová su Dios, porque el antiguo Camino a Dios estaba cerrado para siempre.
Durante este tiempo, Dios dio la Carta a los Hebreos por inspiración a través del apóstol Pablo; y fue escrito a estos judíos del Antiguo Pacto, para explicar por qué el sacrificio de animales a través del Templo y el sacerdocio de Aarón ahora estaba obsoleto bajo el Nuevo Pacto; y también para instarlos a abrazar a Jesucristo como su Mesías, o recibir la ira de Dios por su rebelión:
Hebreos 6:1-2: “Por tanto, dejando los básicos de la doctrina de Cristo, déjanos ir adelante a la completitud [en el Nuevo Pacto]; no otra vez estableciendo el fundamento del arrepentimiento desde obras muertas, y de la fe en [Jehová] Dios, de la doctrina de lavados, y de la imposición de manos [sobre el sacrificio de animal], y de la resurrección de los muertos, y del Juicio Eterno”.
Hebreos 10:26-31: “Porque si continuamos pecando deliberadamente, después hemos recibido el conocimiento de la verdad, no hay más sacrificio por los pecados, sino cierta expectativa temerosa de juicio e indignación de fuego, el cual devorará a los adversarios. Él que despreciaba la Ley de Moisés murió sin misericordia bajo dos o tres testigos. ¿De cuánto peor castigo, suponéis, se le considerará digno, quién ha pisado el Hijo de Dios bajo los pies, y ha contado la sangre del pacto, con la cual fue santificado, una cosa profana, y ha ultrajado al Espíritu de gracia? Porque le conocemos que ha dicho, “‘La venganza me pertenece; pagaré,’ dice [Jehová]”. Y otra vez, “[Jehová] juzgará a su pueblo”. ¡Es una cosa horrorosa es caer en manos del Dios vivo!”. El Señor Jesucristo se había convertido en el sacrificio final por todos los pecados; y también después de resucitar de entre los muertos, llegó a ser el nuevo Sumo Sacerdote según Melquisedec (Hebreos 4:14 - 7:28).

Dios dio la señal del don de lenguas en cuatro ocasiones específicas en el Libro de los Hechos
Dios también dio el don de hablar en idiomas extranjeros sin entrenamiento durante este período como señal a los judíos de que Jesús era su Mesías; y que transfirieran su fe del sacrificio de animales en el Templo al Sacrificio Final de Jesucristo en la cruz, y siguieran a Cristo Resucitado como su Mesías y Señor.
1) Hechos 2:1-4: Los Apóstoles y los primeros miembros de la Asamblea primitiva en Jerusalén (todos judíos) hablaron en lenguas (unas 120 personas). Esta fue una señal de Dios para los 3.000 judíos en Jerusalén [que eran ya salvados], de que Jesús era su Mesías; y ellos deben arrepentirse y ser bautizados en agua para que pudieran recibir el Espíritu Santo. No para ser salvados, sino para recibir el Espíritu, porque ya eran salvados, pero el Espíritu aún no moraba en ellos. ¡Muy importante! También fue una señal para todos los judíos de que Jesús era su Mesías.
2) Hechos 8:12-19: Felipe predicó el Evangelio a los samaritanos, muchos de los cuales ya habían creído en Jesucristo cuando Jesús los visitó años antes (Juan 4:1-42). Fueron bautizados, pero no recibieron el Espíritu hasta que los apóstoles Pedro y Juan les impusieron las manos. La Biblia no lo dice específicamente; pero sugiere fuertemente que los samaritanos hablaban en lenguas.
El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para los apóstoles [judíos] de que los Samaritanos que creyeron ahora eran hijos de Dios por la fe en Jesucristo. Esto fue muy importante para el pueblo judío, porque los samaritanos eran despreciados por los judíos en general debido a su herencia genética.
3) Hechos 10:44-48: Cornelio era un gentil que se había convertido en creyente en Jehová bajo el Antiguo Pacto, por lo que en realidad no era un gentil, sino un judío converso; y toda su familia creyó en Jehová con él; ¡Así que todos ellos ya estaban salvados [Hechos 10:2]! Sin embargo, su fe necesitaba ser completa en Jesucristo, por lo que Dios envió a Pedro a predicarles el Evangelio, y todos creyeron y hablaron en lenguas cuando el Espíritu Santo cayó SOBRE ellos. El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para los apóstoles de que Dios quería que el Evangelio fuera predicado tanto a los gentiles como a los judíos.
Hechos 11:15-18: “Y como comencé a hablar, cayó el Espíritu Santo sobre ellos, como sobre nosotros al principio. Entonces me acordé de la Palabra del Señor, cuando dijo, ‘Juan ciertamente bautizó en agua, pero seréis bautizados en el Espíritu Santo’. Así que, si Dios les dio el mismo don también como a nosotros que hemos creído en el Señor Jesús Cristo, ¿quién era yo que pudiese estorbar a Dios?”. Cuando oídas estas cosas, mantuvieron su paz; y glorificaron a Dios, diciendo, “Entonces Dios también ha concedido el arrepentimiento hasta la Vida Eterna a los Gentiles”.
4) Hechos 19:1-7: El apóstol Pablo se reunió con un grupo de hombres judíos que habían creído en Jehová bajo el Antiguo Pacto y fueron bautizados por Juan el Bautista. Entonces ellos ya eran salvados; sin embargo, no sabían nada del Espíritu Santo. Entonces Pablo enseñó a estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto que debían ser bautizados en el Nombre de Jesús; lo cual hicieron, y hablaron en lenguas después que vino sobre ellos el Espíritu Santo.
El propósito de las lenguas en esta situación era ser una señal para estos creyentes del Antiguo Pacto en Jehová (Judíos) que Jesucristo era en verdad el Mesías y que habían recibido su Espíritu Santo.
¡En cada uno de estos cuatro casos, el don de hablar en idiomas extranjeros sin entrenamiento fue una señal para los judíos creyentes! ¡Nunca fue una señal para los gentiles ¡o incluso a los incrédulos en general!
No había necesidad de que se repitieran estos eventos de hablar en lenguas; ellos cesaron porque ya no eran necesarios
En cada uno de estos cuatro casos (excepto posiblemente el último), Nunca hubo necesidad de repetir el derramamiento del Espíritu Santo al hablar en lenguas a nadie más en estos grupos:
1) Después de este evento en Hechos 2:1-4, la iglesia en Jerusalén tenía una puerta abierta en Jerusalén y Judea para predicar el Evangelio a los judíos, por lo que no necesitaban hablar en lenguas nuevamente.
2) En Hechos 8:12-19, toda la ciudad de Samaria habló en lenguas, lo cual fue una señal para los Apóstoles de que los samaritanos ahora eran los verdaderos hijos de Dios; por lo que no hubo necesidad de repetir este evento nuevamente.
3) Después de los acontecimientos de Hechos 10:44-48, todos los cristianos judíos sabían que Dios quería que llevaran el Evangelio a los gentiles, por lo que no había necesidad de repetir este evento nunca más.
4) Ahora bien, este acontecimiento fue una señal para los creyentes judíos bajo el Antiguo Pacto que habían sido bautizados por Juan el Bautista; y fue un evento local. Es POSIBLE que este evento vuelva a ocurrir con otros creyentes judíos bajo el Antiguo Pacto que habían sido bautizados por Juan el Bautista, pero también es posible que no lo hizo. En cualquier caso, tarde o temprano, todos los creyentes similares que habían sido bautizados por Juan el Bautista sin duda escucharon la noticia de que debían creer en Jesucristo; y así pronto terminó la necesidad de hablar en lenguas como señal para estas personas, ¡porque ya no tenía ningún propósito!
I Corintios 13:8-10: “El amor desinteresado nunca cesa; pero si hay profecías, se acabarán; si hay dones de lenguas extranjeras, cesarán por su propia cuenta; si hay conocimiento, también llegará a su fin: porque sabemos en parte; y profetizamos en parte; pero cuando aquello cual es completo ha llegado, entonces aquello cual es en parte se acabará.
Dios NO dio la señal del don de lenguas durante el período de Transición a la mayoría de los creyentes en Cristo
1 Corintios 14:20-21: “Hermanos, no seáis niños en el entendimiento... En la Ley está escrito, “‘En otras lenguas y con otros labios hablaré a ESTE PUEBLO [Los judíos]; y ni aun así me oirán,’ dice [Jehová]”.
“Este pueblo” = los judíos que fueron salvados bajos el Antiguo Pacto, pero que aún no creían en Jesucristo como su Mesías.
Dios dio el don de señal de hablar en idiomas extranjeros sin entrenamiento (no galimatías ni tonterías) como una SEÑAL para esos judíos (y SOLO PARA LOS JUDÍOS) que Jesús era su Mesías, y que necesitaban pasar del Antiguo Pacto al Nuevo Pacto, ¡o enfrentar el Juicio de Dios!
Dios les dio a estos judíos 40 años para creer o ser destruidos; y lamentablemente muchos no creyeron en Cristo y fueron destruidos por el ejército de Tito.
Ahora, veamos los casos en los que Dios NO dio el don de señal de hablar en lenguas.
Hay al menos 18 casos específicos en el Libro de los Hechos donde los pecadores recibieron a Jesucristo como su Salvador, ¡pero no hablaron en lenguas! Ningún don de señal fue dado por Dios, según el texto de la Palabra de Dios. Consulta estos textos si quieres leerlos:

1) Los 3.000 judíos del Antiguo Pacto que escucharon el mensaje de Pedro en Hechos 2:14-36 se arrepintieron y fueron bautizados en el Nombre de Jesucristo y recibieron el Espíritu Santo; ¡pero no hay registro de que hablaran en lenguas!
2) En Hechos 4:4, alrededor de 5.000 judíos del Antiguo Pacto (más mujeres y niños posiblemente) creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaran en lenguas!
3) Hechos 8:26-39: Felipe predicó el Evangelio al eunuco etíope (un converso a la fe judía); fue creído en Cristo y fue bautizado; ¡pero no hay registro que él hablara en lenguas!
4) Hechos 9:1-20: Saulo de Tarso (más tarde, el apóstol Pablo) encontró a Jesucristo en el camino a Damasco y fue salvado. En Damasco, fue bautizado por Ananías, ¡pero no hay registro de que Saulo alguna vez hablara en lenguas cuando fue salvado!
5) Hechos 9:35: Todos los que vivían en Lida y Sarón se volvieron a Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro de nadie que hablara en lenguas!
6) Hechos 9:42: Pedro resucitó a Tabita de entre los muertos y muchos creyeron en Cristo; ¡pero no hay registro de nadie que haya hablado en lenguas!
7) Hechos 11:21: Muchos gentiles (posiblemente cientos) en Antioquía se volvieron a Cristo y fueron salvados; ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
8) Hechos 11:24: Muchos fueron agregados al Señor, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
9) Hechos 13:12: El gobernador de Chipre creyó en Cristo; ¡pero no hay registro que él hablaba en lenguas!
10) Hechos 13:43: Algunos judíos y judíos conversos confiaron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
11) Hechos 13:48: Muchos gentiles creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
12) Hechos 14:1: Una gran multitud, tanto de los judíos como también de los griegos, creyó; ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
13) Hechos 16:15: Lidia, una gentil adoradora de Jehová, confió en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ella hablara en lenguas!
14) Hechos 16:25-34: El carcelero de Filipos y su familia creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
15) Hechos 17:4: Algunos judíos y gentiles creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
16) Hechos 17:12: Muchos judíos en Berea creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
17) Hechos 17:34: Varios gentiles creyeron en Cristo, ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
18) Hechos 18:8: El líder de la sinagoga y muchos corintios “oyendo el evangelio, creyeron y fueron bautizados”; ¡pero no hay registro que ellos hablaron en lenguas!
Ahora observe que en muchos de estos 18 casos, ¡el número de personas era de miles! Así que hubo al menos entre 10.000 y 20.000 personas que fueron salvadas en el Libro de los Hechos y que nunca hablaron en lenguas; y sin embargo, según los maestros carismáticos de hoy, debemos hablar en lenguas o no somos salvados; porque afirman que hablar en lenguas es la evidencia de que has recibido el Espíritu Santo.
Sabemos que eso ni fue cierto en el caso de las decenas de miles de gentiles que fueron salvados o de los judíos que llegaron a ser judíos completos en el Libro de los Hechos; entonces, ¿dónde está su autoridad para decir que esto es verdad hoy? Estos falsos maestros no son diferentes al Papa, quien hace dogmas sin autoridad alguna de la Biblia, sino basándose únicamente en su propia palabra.
¿Lo ves? Hay muchas enseñanzas falsas hoy en día del movimiento carismático. ¡Debemos comparar estas enseñanzas con lo que la Biblia realmente dice, o seremos arrastrados por un mar de herejía!
I Juan 4:1: “Amados, no creáis a todo espíritu, sino probad los espíritus para ver si son de Dios: porque muchos falsos profetas han salido por el mundo”.
Entonces, ¡hablar en lenguas NO es evidencia de que hayas recibido el Espíritu Santo hoy! No hay apoyo bíblico para esta falsa enseñanza.
Un argumento a favor de las lenguas que se basa en el silencio de la Biblia es extremadamente débil
Ahora, algunos dirán: “La Biblia no dice que hablaron en lenguas, pero sabemos que lo hicieron”.
En el caso de los samaritanos, estaría de acuerdo, pero sólo porque hay alguna evidencia en el texto que sugiere fuertemente que sucedió.
Hechos 8:18: “Y cuando Simón vio que por la imposición de las manos de los Apóstoles se concedía el Espíritu Santo......”
Pero en los otros dieciocho ejemplos de Hechos donde decenas de miles de judíos y gentiles fueron salvados (o los judíos fueron completados en su fe), no hay evidencia que hablar en lenguas tuvo lugar en absoluto.
Entonces, en esos dieciocho ejemplos que cité, estás asumiendo que sucedió sin ninguna evidencia; pero sólo porque quieres creer que sucedió tan mal que estás dispuesto a descartar la falta de evidencia en la Biblia y afirmar que está ahí, independientemente de lo que realmente diga la Biblia.
Un argumento basado en el silencio es, en verdad, un argumento muy débil; y uno muy peligroso, porque cualquiera puede hacer cualquier afirmación que quiera basándose en lo que la Biblia no dice. Si permitimos doctrinas que se basan en lo que la Biblia no dice, entonces no hay límite para el mal que puede reclamarse como verdad. Esto es inaceptable, porque acabas de abrir la puerta a Satanás y sus demonios dentro tu iglesia y tu vida.
Además, la Biblia dice claramente que sólo debemos permitir doctrinas basadas en lo que la Biblia realmente dice, ¡no en lo que no dice!
Josué 1:8: “Este Libro de la Ley nunca se apartará de tu boca; sino meditaréis en ella día y noche, para que observéis hacer conforme a todo lo que está escrito en ella: porque sólo entonces harás que tu camino sea próspero, y sólo entonces tendréis buen éxito”.
2 Timoteo 3:16-17: “Toda la Escritura es dada por inspiración de Dios; y es beneficioso para la doctrina, para la reprensión, para la corrección, y para la instrucción en la rectitud; para que el hombre de Dios puede estar completo y completamente equipado para todo buen trabajo”.
Salmo 119:105: “Tu Palabra es lámpara a mis pies y luz a mi camino.”
Salmo 1:1-4: “Bienaventurado es el varón que no anda en consejo del impío, ni se pone de pie en camino de pecadores, ni se sienta en silla de escarnecedores. Pero en la Ley de Jehová es su delicia; y en su Ley medita de día y de noche. Y él será como árbol plantado junto a los rios de agua, cual da su fruto en su temporada. Y su hoja no se marchitará, y todo lo que él hace prosperará”.
Conclusión
Entonces, si su iglesia afirma que todos en el Libro de los Hechos hablaron en lenguas y que usted debe seguir su ejemplo, entonces necesitas entender que hoy en día no hay apoyo bíblico para hablar en lenguas. La evidencia de la Biblia es clara de que el propósito bíblico del don de lenguas como señal se cumplió completamente durante el Libro de los Hechos. Cesaron porque ya no son necesarios.
Entonces, ¿qué pasa con los millones de personas que “hablan en lenguas” hoy?
La respuesta debería ser obvia: si Dios no está dando el don de señal de hablar en lenguas, entonces ¿quién lo está dando? ¡Obviamente es el diablo!
¿De qué otra manera se pueden explicar estos actos malvados y no bíblicos y otras cosas que no se encuentran en la Biblia e incluso van en contra de la Biblia?
1) Risa hilarante e incontrolable (llamada “risa santa”): ¿Es ese bíblico? ¡No, es demoníaco!
2) Bajando al suelo y ladrar como un perro: ¿Es ese bíblico? ¡No, es demoníaco!
3) “Matando en el espíritu”: El evangelista de la televisión barre su abrigo y filas enteras de personas caen como si estuvieran muertas: ¿Es ese bíblico? ¡No, es demoníaco!
4) Arrebatos incontrolados de hablar en galimatías (seem salabim; honda bowtie, honda bowtie...), y no en idiomas humanos y verdaderos: ¿Es ese bíblico? ¡No, es demoníaco!
5) “Curas milagrosas” no probadas e incluso afirmaciones de resucitar a personas de entre los muertos; pero si es cierto, ¿por qué no van a los hospitales y los vacían? ¡Porque no ganarían DINERO!
6) El “evangelio” de la salud y la riqueza con predicadores millonarios, e incluso evangelistas televisivos multimillonarios como Kenneth Copeland con aviones privados y mansiones. ¡Esto no sólo es antibíblico, sino que trae reproche al Evangelio de Jesucristo!
I Timoteo 6:6-10: “Pero la piedad con contentamiento es gran ganancia: porque no trajimos nada a este mundo, y es seguro que no podemos llevar cualquier cosa fuera; y teniendo comida y ropa, contentémonos con estos. Pero los que quieren ser ricos caen en tentación y una trampa, y en muchas concupiscencias necias y dolorosas cual ahogan a los hombres en la destrucción y la perdición: porque el amor al dinero es la raíz de todo mal; mientras que algunos codiciados después de ello, se han alejado desde la fe, y traspasaron a sí mismos a través con muchos dolores”.
7) “Nómbralo y reclámalo” enseñando que obtenemos cosas nombrándolo y reclamándolo: ¿Es ese bíblico? No, en realidad proviene de la religión pagana.
8) Las afirmaciones de que los creyentes en Jesús son en realidad “pequeños dioses” (similares al mormonismo): ¿Eso es de Dios? No, consulte este estudio para prueba.

9) Los líderes del movimiento carismático (como Kenneth Copeland) instan a sus seguidores a unirse con la religión católica romana pagana y alaban al Papa: ¿Eso es de Dios? ¡No, es maldad!
10) ¿Es el movimiento carismático moderno “la lluvia tardía” de Dios? ¿Cómo puede ser de Dios, cuando ello está lleno de tanta maldad? Si algunos de estos elementos describe su iglesia, entonces debería ser obvio para usted que su iglesia no es una iglesia que cree a la Biblia, y tu pastor está predicando un mensaje que no es de Dios. Te deseo a que deje su iglesia y busque una iglesia bautista independiente, fundamental y creyente a la Biblia, asistir regularmente y servir al Señor allí. Amén.
¡Como Ser Salvado!
Juan 14:6: “Jesús le dijo, ‘Soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí’”.
Juan 10:1: “Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: el que no entra por la puerta en el redil de las ovejas, pero se trepa arriba alguna otra manera, lo mismo es un ladrón y salteador”.
Eres esclavo de Satanás y no puedes ser liberado de tus pecados, A MENOS que te arrepientas de tu incredulidad en la Biblia, tus ídolos y tus dioses falsos y acude a Jesucristo para recibir su regalo gratuito de la Salvación que Él murió en la cruz para proveerte, ¡gratis!
Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que nació de una virgen; Vivió una vida sin pecado, Él dio su vida en la cruz para expiar todos nuestros pecados y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día.
La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:
Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.
