Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

Comments: First of all, during my preparation for this Bible study, I realized that the outline of this chapter, and some of the text divisions, from Romans 8:1 - 30, were not as accurate as I had hoped; so these now have new or modified themes, and the arrangement has been updated in the PDF version of the Kingdom Study Bible as well as the website version. I trust it will be a blessing to you!

We have covered the most difficult part of this chapter of Romans! In the previous studies for Chapter 2.3 in the Golden Ratio design, we discussed in detail the nature of sin with relationship to the Law of Moses and how to defeat the power of sin as a born again believer in Jesus Christ.

The remainder of this chapter is not about the Law of Moses, but the Holy Spirit of God and the relationship of Him to the born again believer in Jesus Christ.

I keep saying “born again believer in Jesus Christ”, because many Roman Catholics or liberals who deny the Bible or false Christians who believe that they were saved when they were baptized or joined the church will read these studies, and think:

“Oh he is talking about me! I’m a christian because I’m a good church member, I’ve been baptized, I rarely read the Bible or understand what it says unless my Catholic priest or pastor tells me what it means, but I’m okay because my priest or my pastor says that I will go to Heaven when I die if am a good person and trust the church to carry me into Heaven like the Ark of Noah.”

Sadly, many liberal churches and the Roman Catholic religion have stolen the term “born again” from the Bible; but they change the meaning so that their lost church members can give “the right answer” to born again Christians when they are ask if they are saved: they teach that when you were baptized, you were also “born again”; but that is a lie!

So a Roman Catholic can say, “Yes, I have been born again!” And many true Christians do not understand that the Catholic doesn’t understand the Biblical definition of “born again”, so they go away, not realizing that the Catholic is still lost and going to Hell!

No my friend! You are not going to Heaven, because you are a church member, you were baptized, you are a muslim or a Hindu and you’re doing your best to make God happy with your good works! That is not how a person is accepted with God! If you want to be sure of Heaven when you die, please read the last paragraph of this study. That is the only part of this Bible study that applies to you, because you do not know God at all; and currently, your destination is Hell, and later, the Lake of Fire! That is the brutal truth.

John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.’”

Unique “Therefore, there is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit: for the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of sin and death: for what the Law of Moses could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh: God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

Complement “For they that walk according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh; but they that walk according to the Spirit think about the things of the Spirit. For having a carnal mind is death; but having a spiritual mind is life and peace.

Complement “Because the fleshly mind is hatred against God: for it is not subject to the Law of God; neither indeed can it be.”

Opposite “So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

Opposite “But you are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if it is true that the Spirit of God dwells in you.”

Romans 8:1-4: “Therefore, there is now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit: for the Law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the Law of sin and death: for what the Law of Moses could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh: God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh, so that the righteousness of the Law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.”

Comments: The Lord Jesus Christ fulfilled the Law in every part of his Life; and also in his atoning death on the cross for all of our sins: past, present, and future! And Jesus fulfilled the Law, so that if we follow Him in obedience to the Holy Spirit of God, then we will also fulfill the Law of Moses.

Romans 10:1-4: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel, is that they might be saved: for I bear them witness that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge: for they, being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves to the righteousness of God: for Christ is the fulfillment of the Law for righteousness to every one that believes in him.”

The difference between a sinner and a born again Christian is that the first doesn’t have the Holy Spirit; and the second one does!

Romans 8:5-6: “For they that walk according to the flesh think about the things of the flesh; but they that walk according to the Spirit think about the things of the Spirit. For having a carnal mind is death; but having a spiritual mind is life and peace.”

The Bible plainly says that you cannot have peace with God when your mind is filled with the things of the world, the flesh, and the devil!

One of my Facebook friends, who was once a Bible teacher but is now retired, had a conversation with some of his other friends; and they were reminiscing about the rock music that they used to listen to when they were young.

They were literally pining away for the days when they were serving Satan and listening to the devil’s music! They were yearning for the bad old days when they were going to Hell as if it was something wonderful! So if a lost person read their conversation, they would likely think, “Why should I become a Christian? They want what I have!”

It made me both sad and angry that someone of his stature, who once taught the Bible at a Bible college, would betray his Lord and Savior in that way. I unfriended him, because I can understand when a sinner who doesn’t know God says things like that; but no born again Christian should ever look back at his past life as a sinner and desire to go back to that again! It is shameful and wicked!

Remember Lot’s wife: instead of fleeing from Sodom as it was destroyed by God, she turned back to look at it and God turned her into a pillar of salt as a lesson for all believers!

Luke 17:32: “Remember Lot’s wife.”

1 John 2:15-17: “Love not the world; neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him: for all that is in the world (the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life) is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and its lust; but he that is doing the will of God remains forever.”

¶Complement The Holy Spirit dwells in the body of the Believer in Jesus Christ to guarantee his resurrection to Eternal Life (8:9b - 13)

Unique “Now if any man does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not one of his children.

Complement “And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is Life because of righteousness.

Complement “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.”

Opposite “Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, but not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh: for if you live according to the flesh, you shall die;

Opposite “but if, through the Spirit, you are constantly mortifying the deeds of the body, you shall live.”

Comments: You cannot be a born again Christian and not have the Holy Spirit of God dwelling within you!

Ephesians 1:13-14: “In whom [Jesus Christ] you also trusted, after that you heard the Word of Truth, the Gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed in Christ, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise, which is the down-payment of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of his glory.”

Romans 8:11: “But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwells in you.”

Notice what the Bible is saying here: the deposit of the Holy Spirit in the believer in Jesus Christ is a GUARANTEE that we will be resurrected into Eternal Life. In other words, once saved, always saved! [Just make sure that you truly are saved, amen?

Also, notice that Paul didn’t say, “having spoken in tongues”, or “having been baptized”; no, he wrote, under Divine Inspiration by the Holy Spirit:

Ephesians 1:13b: “having believed in Christ, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”

Do not believe the lies that are taught by Charismatics and Pentecostals, that you cannot receive the Holy Spirit of God until “you speak with tongues” or until “you are baptized in the Name of Jesus”! These are false teachings that are not supported by the Word of God, as you can see in this text from Ephesians.

“Having believed [in Christ], you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise.” Full stop!

The instances in the Book of Acts where there is a delay between believing and receiving the Holy Spirit are always related to the transition period between the Old and the New Covenant; and also the sign gift of speaking in foriegn languages without training (tongues) is closely related to this situation. I will discuss this in detail in the study next week.

When I believed in Christ on August 30, 1982, I knew that I was saved, and I had received the Holy Spirit! And I never once spoke with “tongues”; and I was not baptized until over a year later, due to the situation I was in at that time in the US Navy.

It is true that when a new believer submits to baptism in deep water, there is a new sense of closer fellowship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and the power of the Holy Spirit upon his life! But this is the “upon” ministry of the Holy Spirit: not the “within” ministry of the Holy Spirit! Every believer receives the Holy Spirit the same instant that they repent of their sins and ask the Lord Jesus to forgive their sins and come into their life to save them. This is exactly what Ephesians 1:13-14 says, and this is what happened to me over 41 years ago. It is a fact.

The blessed Holy Spirit! Amen!

The biggest day to day difference between my life as a sinner who was going to Hell, and my life as a born again Christian, was the Holy Spirit in my life! Amen.

When you know Jesus Christ as your Savior, you also know the Holy Spirit of God!

He is a Person in the Trinity of God: co-equal with God the Father and God the Son.

I John 5:7: “for there are three that bear witness in Heaven: the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one”

But the Holy Spirit has a multi-faceted office (or a role) in the Godhead that the Father and the Son do not have. His role is:

1) To indwell us the instant that we repent and receive Christ as our Savior:

Ephesians 1:13b: “Having believed in Christ, you were sealed with that Holy Spirit of promise”

2) To fill us with Himself:

Ephesians 5:18: “And be not drunk with wine (in which is excess), but be continually filled with the Spirit”

Ephesians 3:14-19: “For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, of whom every family in Heaven and earth is named, that he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith, that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God.”

3) To empower us:

Acts 4:31: “And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.”

Judges 14:5-6: “Then Samson went down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath; and, behold, a young lion roared against him. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him, and he tore him apart as he would have torn a kid; and there was nothing in his hand; but he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done.”

Judges 15:14: “And when he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him. And the Spirit of Jehovah came mightily upon him; and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burned with fire; and his bands loosed from off his hands. And he found a fresh jawbone of a donkey; and he put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men with it.”

4) To give us joy (to bless us) as we obey the Word of God, and as we obey the will of God for our life:

Acts 13:52: “And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Spirit.”

5) To convict us when we sin against God, so that we will repent and serve God once again; or to repent of our rebellion and turn to Christ and be saved.

Acts 7:54: “When they heard these things, they were convicted in their hearts; and they gnashed their teeth at him.”

Acts 2:37: “Now when they heard this, they were convicted in their heart; and they said to Peter and to the rest of the Apostles, “Men, brethren: what shall we do?”

6) To convict the world of sin, of righteousness, and of Judgment to come:

John 16:7-10: “Nevertheless I tell you the truth, it is good for you that I go away: for if I do not go away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you. And when he has come, he will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they believe not on me; of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and you see me no more; of judgment, because the prince of this world has been sentenced.”

Jude 1:14-15: “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, “Behold, the Lord is coming with ten thousands of his saints, to execute judgment upon all; and to convict all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

7) To help our weaknesses/infirmities, and to lead us in our prayers to pray for things that He wants us to pray for.

Romans 8:26a: “Likewise, the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we do not know what we should pray for as we should”

8) To make intercession to God the Father on our behalf:

Romans 8:26b-27: “but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.”

9) To guide us into all truth:

John 16:13-15: “Nevertheless when he, the Spirit of Truth, has come, he will guide you into all Truth: for he shall not speak from himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak; and he will show you things to come. He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall show it to you. All things that the Father has are mine; therefore I said, that he shall take of mine, and shall show it to you.”

10) To testify of Christ:

John 15:26: “But when the Comforter has come, whom I will send to you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he shall testify of me.”

Conclusion

This is only an introduction to the doctrine of the Holy Spirit. There are many more texts in the Bible that would be a great blessing, if you take the time to read them. Next week, I will demonstrate from the Book of Acts and 1 Corinthians why “speaking in tongues” was a sign gift for the first century of church history (actually only about 30-40 years after the resurrection of Christ), but not for today.

How to be saved!

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was born of a virgin; He lived a sinless life, and He gave his life on the cross to atone for all of our sins, and He rose again from the dead on the third day.

The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:

Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are ready to be saved, then you can use the following prayer to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

¡Hemos cubierto la parte más difícil de este capítulo de Romanos! Soy cristiano porque soy un buen miembro de la iglesia, fui bautizado, rara vez leo la Biblia, ni entiendo lo que dice a menos que mi sacerdote o pastor católico me diga lo que significa, pero estoy bien porque mi sacerdote o mi pastor dice que iré al cielo cuando muera si soy una buena persona y confío en la iglesia para llevarme al Cielo como el Arca de Noé”.

Lamentablemente, muchas iglesias liberales y la religión católica romana han robado el término “nacido de nuevo” de la Biblia; pero cambian el significado para que los miembros perdidos de su iglesia puedan dar “la respuesta correcta” a los cristianos nacidos de nuevo cuando se les pregunta si son salvados: enseñan que cuando fuiste bautizado, también “naciste de nuevo”; ¡pero eso es mentira!

Entonces un católico romano puede decir: “¡Sí, he nacido de nuevo!” Y muchos verdaderos cristianos no entienden que el católico no entiende la definición bíblica de “nacido de nuevo”, por lo que se van, ¡pero sin darse cuenta de que el católico sigue perdido y yendo al infierno!

¡No, amigo mío! ¡No irás al Cielo porque eres miembro de una iglesia, fuiste bautizado, eres musulmán o hindú y estás haciendo lo mejor que puedes para hacer feliz a Dios con tus buenas obras! ¡Así no es como una persona es aceptada con Dios! Si quiere estar seguro del Cielo cuando muera, por favor lea el último párrafo de este estudio. Esa es la única parte de este estudio bíblico que se aplica a ti, porque no conoces a Dios en absoluto; ¡Y actualmente, tu destino es el Infierno, y más tarde, el Lago de Fuego! Ésa es la brutal verdad.

Único Por lo tanto, ahora no hay condenación para los que están en Cristo Jesús, quien no andan conforme a la carne, sino según el espíritu: porque la Ley del Espíritu de vida en Cristo Jesús me ha hecho libre desde la Ley del pecado y de la muerte: porque, lo que la Ley de Moisés no podía hacer, en que ello era débil a través de la carne: Dios, enviando a su Hijo en la semejanza de la carne pecaminosa y para el pecado, condenó el pecado en la carne; para que la justicia de la Ley podría cumplirse en nosotros, quien no caminamos según la carne, sino según el Espíritu.

El complemento Porque los que andan conforme a la carne, piensan acerca de las cosas de la carne; pero los que andan conforme el Espíritu, piensan acerca de las cosas del Espíritu. Porque tener una mente carnal es la muerte, pero tener una mente espiritual es vida y paz.

El complemento Porque la mente carnal es la odio contra Dios: porque no se sujeta a la Ley de Dios, ni tampoco puede.

Lo opuesto Así entonces, los que están en la carne no pueden agradar a Dios.

Lo opuesto Pero ustedes no estáis en la carne, sino en el Espíritu, si es verdad que el Espíritu de Dios mora en ustedes.

Romanos 8:1-4: “Por lo tanto, ahora no hay condenación para los que están en Cristo Jesús, quien no andan conforme a la carne, sino según el espíritu: porque la Ley del Espíritu de vida en Cristo Jesús me ha hecho libre desde la Ley del pecado y de la muerte: porque, lo que la Ley de Moisés no podía hacer, en que ello era débil a través de la carne: Dios, enviando a su Hijo en la semejanza de la carne pecaminosa y para el pecado, condenó el pecado en la carne; para que la justicia de la Ley podría cumplirse en nosotros, quien no caminamos según la carne, sino según el Espíritu”.

Comentarios: El Señor Jesucristo cumplió la Ley en cada parte de su Vida; y también en su muerte expiatoria en la cruz por todos nuestros pecados: ¡pasados, presentes y futuros! Y Jesús cumplió la Ley, de modo que si lo seguimos en obediencia al Espíritu Santo de Dios, entonces también cumpliremos la Ley de Moisés.

Romanos 10:1-4: “Hermanos, el deseo de mi corazón y mi oración a Dios por Israel, es que ellos puedan ser salvados: porque yo les doy testimonio de que tienen celo de Dios, pero no conforme al conocimiento: porque ellos, siendo ignorando de la justicia de Dios, y procurando establecer su propia justicia, no se han sometido mismos a la justicia de Dios: porque Cristo es el cumplimiento de la Ley para justicia para todo aquel que en él cree”.

La diferencia entre un pecador y un cristiano nacido de nuevo es que el primero no tiene el Espíritu Santo; ¡Y el segundo sí!

Romanos 8:5-6: “Porque los que andan conforme a la carne, piensan acerca de las cosas de la carne; pero los que andan conforme el Espíritu, piensan acerca de las cosas del Espíritu. 8:6Porque tener una mente carnal es la muerte, ero tener una mente espiritual es vida y paz"

¡La Biblia dice claramente que no puedes tener paz con Dios cuando tu mente está llena de las cosas del mundo, la carne y el diablo!

Uno de mis amigos de Facebook, que alguna vez fue maestro de la Biblia pero ahora está jubilado, tuvo una conversación con algunos de sus otros amigos; y estaban recordando la música rock que solían escuchar cuando eran jóvenes.

¡Estaban literalmente añorando los días en que servían a Satanás y escuchaban la música del diablo! ¡Ellos anhelaban los malos viejos tiempos en los que ellos estuvieron yendo al infierno como si fuera algo maravilloso! Entonces, si una persona perdida leyera su conversación, probablemente pensaría: “¿Por qué debería convertirme en cristiano? ¡Quieren lo que tengo!”.

Me entristeció y enojó al mismo tiempo que alguien de su estatura, que una vez enseñó la Biblia en un instituto bíblico, traicionara a su Señor y Salvador de esa manera. Le quité su amistad, porque puedo entender cuando un pecador que no conoce a Dios dice cosas así; ¡pero ningún cristiano nacido de nuevo debería jamás mirar atrás a su vida pasada como pecador y desear volver a eso otra vez! ¡Es vergonzoso y perverso!

Recuerde a la esposa de Lot: en lugar de huir de Sodoma mientras era destruida por Dios, ella se volvió para mirarla y ¡Dios la convirtió en una estatua de sal como lección para todos los creyentes!

Lucas 17:32: “Recordad a la esposa de Lot”.

1 Juan 2:15-17: “No améis al mundo, ni las cosas que están en el mundo. Si alguno ama al mundo, el amor del Padre no está en él: porque todo que es en el mundo (la concupiscencia de la carne, y la concupiscencia de los ojos, y el orgullo de la vida) no es del Padre, sino del mundo. Y el mundo está pasando lejos, y su lujuria; pero el que hace la voluntad de Dios permanece para siempre”.

¶El complemento El Espíritu Santo habita en el cuerpo del Creyente en Jesucristo para garantizar su resurrección a la Vida Eterna (8:9b - 13))

Único Ahora bien, si alguno no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, él no es uno de sus hijos.

El complemento Y si Cristo está en ustedes, el cuerpo está muerto a causa del pecado, pero el Espíritu es Vida a causa de la justicia.

El complemento Pero si el Espíritu de él quien resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos habita en ustedes, él que levantó a Cristo desde los muertos también vivificará sus cuerpos mortales por su Espíritu que habita en ustedes.

Lo opuesto Por lo tanto, hermanos, somos deudores, pero no para la carne, para vivir según la carne: porque si vives según la carne, moriréis;

Lo opuesto sino si, a través del Espíritu, estáis mortificando constantemente las obras de la carne, viviréis.

Comentarios: ¡No puedes ser un cristiano nacido de nuevo y no tener el Espíritu Santo de Dios morando dentro de ti!

Efesios 1:13-14: “En el cual también [confiasteis] ustedes, habiendo oído la Palabra de Verdad, el Evangelio de vuestra salvación; en quien también, habiendo creído [en Cristo], fuisteis sellados con el Espíritu Santo de la promesa, cual es el pago inicial de nuestra herencia hasta la redención de la posesión adquirida, para alabanza de su gloria”.

Romanos 8:11: “Pero si el Espíritu de él quien resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos habita en ustedes, él que levantó a Cristo desde los muertos también vivificará sus cuerpos mortales por su Espíritu que habita en ustedes”.

Note lo que dice la Biblia aquí: el depósito del Espíritu Santo en el creyente en Jesucristo es GARANTÍA de que resucitaremos a la Vida Eterna. En otras palabras, ¡una vez salvado, salvado para siempre! [Solo asegúrate de que realmente eres salvado, ¿amén?

También note que Pablo no dijo: “habiendo hablado en lenguas, o “Habiendo sido bautizado”; no, escribió, bajo la inspiración divina del Espíritu Santo:

Efesios 1:13b: “Habiendo creído [en Cristo], fuisteis sellados con el Espíritu Santo de la promesa”.

¡No creas las mentiras que enseñan los carismáticos y los pentecostales, que no puedes recibir el Espíritu Santo de Dios hasta que “hables en lenguas” o hasta que “seas bautizado en el Nombre de Jesús”! Estas son enseñanzas falsas que no están respaldadas por la

Palabra de Dios, como puedes ver en este texto desde Efesios.

“Habiendo creído [en Cristo], fuisteis sellados con el Espíritu Santo de la promesa”. ¡Parada completa!

Los casos en el Libro de los Hechos donde hay un retraso entre creer y recibir el Espíritu Santo siempre están relacionados con el período de transición entre la Antigua y la Nueva Pacto; y también el don de signos de hablar en lenguas extranjeras sin entrenamiento (lenguas) está muy relacionado con esta situación. Discutiré esto en detalle en el estudio la próxima semana.

Cuando creí en Cristo el 30 de agosto de 1982, supe que era salvado y que había recibido el Espíritu Santo. Y nunca hablé en “lenguas”; y no me bauticé hasta más de un año después, debido a la situación en la que me encontraba en ese momento en la Marina de los Estados Unidos.

Es cierto que cuando un nuevo creyente se somete al bautismo en agua profunda, ¡Hay un nuevo sentido de comunión más estrecha con el Señor Jesucristo y el poder del Espíritu Santo sobre su vida! Pero este es el ministerio “sobre” del Espíritu Santo: ¡no el ministerio “dentro” del Espíritu Santo! Todo creyente recibe el Espíritu Santo en el mismo instante en que se arrepiente de sus pecados y le pide al Señor Jesús que le perdone y venga a su vida para salvarle. Esto es exactamente lo que dice Efesios 1:13-14, y esto es lo que me pasó a mí hace más de 41 años. Es un hecho.

¡El bendito Espíritu Santo! ¡Amén!

¡La mayor diferencia diaria entre mi vida como pecadora que yendo al infierno y mi vida como cristiana nacida de nuevo, fue el Espíritu Santo en mi vida! Amén.

Cuando conoces a Jesucristo como tu Salvador, ¡también conoces al Espíritu Santo de Dios!

Él es una Persona en la Trinidad de Dios: co-igual con Dios Padre y Dios Hijo:

1 Juan 5:7: “porque hay tres que dan testimonio en el Cielo: el Padre, el Verbo y el Espíritu Santo; y estos tres son uno”

Pero el Espíritu Santo tiene un oficio (o un papel) polifacético en la Trinidad que el Padre y el Hijo no tienen. El papel de él es:

1) Para habitar en nosotros en el instante que nos arrepentimos y recibimos a Cristo como nuestro Salvador:

Efesios 1:13b: “Habiendo creído [en Cristo], fuisteis sellados con el Espíritu Santo de la promesa”.

2) Para llenarnos de Él mismo:

Efesios 5:18: “Y no emborrachéis con vino (en el que hay exceso), sino estad continuamente lleno del Espíritu”

Efesios 3:14-19: “Por esta causa doblo mis rodillas ante el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, de quien es nombrada toda la familia en el Cielo y en la tierra, para que os diera, conforme a las riquezas de su gloria, el ser fortalecidos con poder en el hombre interior por su Espíritu; que habite Cristo por la fe en vuestros corazones; para que, arraigados y fundados en amor, podáis comprender con todos los santos cuál sea la anchura, la longitud, la profundidad y la altura; y de conocer el amor de Cristo, que excede a todo conocimiento; para que seáis llenos de toda la plenitud de Dios”.

3) para potenciarnos:

Hechos 4:31: “Y cuando hubieron orado, el lugar en que estaban congregados tembló. Y todos fueron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y hablaron la Palabra de Dios con denuedo”.

Jueces 14:5-6: “Y Sansón descendió con su padre y con su madre a Timnat; y cuando llegaron a las viñas de Timnat, he aquí un cachorro de león que venía rugiendo hacia él. Y el Espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y lo despedazó como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en su mano; pero no contó ni a su padre ni a su madre lo que había hecho”.

Jueces 15:14: “Y así que vino hasta Lehi, los filisteos salieron gritando a su encuentro, y el Espíritu de Jehová descendió con poder sobre él, y las cuerdas que estaban en sus brazos se volvieron como lino quemado con fuego, y las ataduras se cayeron de sus manos. Y encontró una mandíbula fresca de un burro; extendió la mano y la tomó, e hirió con ella a mil hombres”.

4) Para darnos gozo (para bendecirnos) como obedecemos la Palabra de Dios, y como obedecemos la voluntad de Dios para nuestra vida:

Hechos 13:52: “Y los discípulos estaban llenos de gozo, y del Espíritu Santo”.

5) Para convencernos cuando pecamos contra Dios, para que nos arrepintamos y sirvamos a Dios una vez más; o arrepentirnos de nuestra rebelión y volvernos a Cristo y ser salvados.

Hechos 7:54: “Cuando oyeron estas cosas, ellos fueron condenados en sus corazones, y crujían sus dientes contra él”.

Hechos 2:37: “Ahora cuando oyeron esto, fueron convencidos en su corazón; y le dijeron a Pedro y al resto de los Apóstoles: ‘Varones, hermanos, ¿qué haremos?’”.

6) Para convencer al mundo de pecado, de justicia y del juicio para venir:

Juan 16:7-10: “Sin embargo, os digo la verdad, es bueno para os que me voy: porque si yo no me voy, el Consolador no vendrá a ustedes; pero si me voy, le enviaré a él para ustedes. Y cuando él ha venido, convencerá al mundo de pecado, de justicia y de juicio: de pecado, porque no creen en mí; de justicia, porque voy a mi Padre, y no me veréis más; y de juicio, porque el príncipe de este mundo ha sido sentenciado”.

Jude 1:14-15: “Y también Enoc, el séptimo desde Adán, profetizó de estos, diciendo, “He aquí, el Señor viene con diez mil de sus santos, para ejecutar juicio sobre todos; y convencer a todos los que son impíos entre ellos de todas sus obras impías que impíamente han cometido, y de todas sus palabras duras que pecadores impíos han pronunciado contra él”.

7) Para ayudar a nuestras debilidades/enfermedades y para guiarnos en nuestras oraciones a orar por las cosas por las que Él quiere que oremos.

Romanos 8:26a: “Asimismo, el Espíritu también nos ayuda a nuestras debilidades: porque no sabemos por lo que debemos orar como debemos”.

8) Para interceder a Dios Padre por nosotros:

Romanos 8:26b-27: “pero El Espíritu mismo hace intercesión por nosotros con gemidos que no pueden ser expresados. Y él que escudriña los corazones sabe cuál es la mente del Espíritu: porque él hace intercesión por los santos según la voluntad de Dios”.

9) Para guiarnos dentro toda verdad:

Juan 16:13-15: “Pero cuando el Espíritu de verdad venga, él os guiará a toda verdad: porque no hablará de sí mismo, sino que hablará todo lo que oiga, y él os mostrará las cosas por venir. Él me glorificará: porque él recibirá de lo mío, y él lo mostrará a ustedes. Todo lo que tiene el Padre, es mío; por eso dije que tomará de lo mío, y él lo mostrará a ustedes”.

10) Para testificar de Cristo:

Juan 15:26: “Pero cuando el Consolador ha llegado, a quien yo os enviaré del Padre, aun el Espíritu de verdad, quien procede desde el Padre, él dará testimonio de mí”.

Conclusión

Esta es sólo una introducción a la doctrina del Espíritu Santo. Hay muchos más textos en la Biblia que serían de gran bendición, si te tomas el tiempo de leerlos. Puedes usar la versión gratuita PDF del Reino Estudio Biblia (REB) y puedes hacer una búsqueda de palabras para “Espíritu”; y luego vaya a cada pasaje de la Biblia para ver lo que dice.

La próxima semana demostraré a partir del Libro de los Hechos y 1 Corintios por qué “hablar en lenguas” fue una señal para el primer siglo de la historia de la iglesia (en realidad, sólo unos 30 o 40 años después de la resurrección de Cristo), pero no para hoy.

¡Cómo ser salvado!

Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que nació de una virgen; Vivió una vida sin pecado, Él dio su vida en la cruz para expiar todos nuestros pecados y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día.

La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:

Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.

Si estás listo para ser salvado, entonces puedes usar la siguiente oración para arrepentirte y recibir al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
