Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

I did not know sin, but through the Law: for I would not have known lust, except the Law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking occasion by the Commandment, produced all kinds of evil desire in me. For apart from the Law, sin was dead: for as an infant, I was alive once apart from the Law; but when the Commandment came, sin revived, and I died spiritually. Complement “Therefore, I find concerning the Law, that when I desire to do good, evil is always present with me: for I delight in the Law of God according to the inward man; but I see another law in my body parts, making war against the Law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my body parts.

Unique “So then, with the mind, I myself serve the Law of God; but with the flesh, [I serve] the law of sin.”

Comments: The first thing is that I updated the heading (the theme) for this paragraph, because I realized that it wasn't as accurate as it should be. When I find something in my outline that can be made better, I will update it.

Also, notice the Golden Ratio design of this paragraph in its subparagraphs: it is the opposite design (OO-CCU) from the previous paragraph, which was “UCC-OO”, or “one unique, two complements, and two opposites”. The Golden Ratio design is the proof of Divine Inspiration upon his Word.

This paragraph is very meaningful for every born again Christian! The struggle to not sin against God is one that every believer must face every single day.

We don’t want to sin against God; but now and then, we find ourselves doing in the flesh what we don’t want to do in the spirit.

This text builds on the text in Romans 7:1-6, where Paul discussed the relationship between the Law of Moses and the born again believer in Jesus Christ.

Romans 7:4-6: “Therefore, my brethren, you also were made dead to the Law by the crucified body of Christ, that you should be married to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit to God: for when we were in the flesh, the motions leading to sins, which were by the Law, worked in our body parts to bring forth fruit unto death. But now, we have been delivered from the Law, that being dead in which we were held, that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.”

The purpose of the Law is to magnify sin in the conscience of sinners, so that we might seek the forgiveness of God through the Finished Work of Christ on the cross: it has no other purpose!

Romans 3:19-20: “And we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to them who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and all the world may become guilty before God; therefore, by the works of the Law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

Galatians 3:24: “Therefore the Law was our tutor to point us to Christ, that we might be justified by faith in him.”

The Law of Moses = The justice and wrath of God against all sins, even the slightest one; with the punishment of our sins in Hell and later, the Lake of Fire, forever and ever and ever!

The Gospel of the Finished Work of Christ on the cross = The mercy, grace, and forgiveness of God for all sins, even the slightest one; and the gift of Eternal Life in Heaven!

The awakening of a child to the consciousness of sin in their soul

Romans 7:7-12: “What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? Certainly not! I did not know sin, but through the Law: for I would not have known lust, except the Law had said, “You shall not covet.” But sin, taking occasion by the Commandment, produced all kinds of evil desire in me. For apart from the Law, sin was dead: for [as an infant], I was alive once apart from the Law; but when the Commandment came, sin revived, and I died spiritually. And the Commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death: for sin, taking occasion by the Commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. Therefore the Law is holy; and the Commandment is holy, and just, and good.”

In this subparagraph, the Apostle Paul recalled his own experience with the Law and his awakening to sin as a young child (as Saul of Tarsus) when he came to the age of accountability:

“For apart from the Law, sin was dead: for [as an infant], I was alive once apart from the Law; but when the Commandment came, sin revived, and I died spiritually.”

In other words, before the age of accountability, the child Saul was spiritually alive! Babies and toddlers up to the age of 3 or 4 years old cannot understand the concept of sin; they only understand the “law” of their mom and dad when they say “No!”

But at some point, they become old enough to understand what a sin is, especially if mom and dad take them to a Bible-believing church and they hear the Gospel preached to them. And when they do understand the concept of sin, the moment comes when they decide to do something evil: they steal something from their brother or sister, they tell a lie “Not me!”, “It’s their fault!” etc. And then they become a sinner in the eyes of God, with full accountability to God for their sins.

Before that time comes, if they happen to die, they will go to Heaven, because they do not understand sin, and God will not hold them accountable for sins they committed in ignorance, because God is a merciful and righteous God!

Paul wrote,

“for [as an infant], I was alive once apart from the Law”

Before the age of accountability, young infants and toddlers are spiritually alive! They have not yet died in their spirit.

But when the first sin is committed, their spirit dies inside, and they begin the process of becoming hardened toward sin, leading to more and more sins, until the end result is death:

James 1:13-15: “Let no man say when he is tempted, ‘I am tempted by God’: for God cannot be tempted with evil; neither does he tempt any man. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it births sin; and sin, when it is fully grown, brings forth death.”

Paul said that when he learned the Law of Moses (the Ten Commandments) as a child, he died:

“but when the Commandment came, sin revived, and I died [spiritually].”

How did Saul die? He was physically alive, so the meaning is that he died spiritually. From that point forward, he had no knowledge of God personally and could not know God until he was born again on the road to Damascus.

John 3:3: “Jesus answered and said to him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born from above, he cannot see the Kingdom of God.”

The Law of Moses condemns the sinner and magnifies sin in his conscience

Romans 7:13-20: “Then, was that which is good made death to me? Certainly not! But the Law magnified sin, so that it might be shown to be sinful: working death in me by that which is good, so that sin by the Commandment might become exceedingly sinful. For we know that the Law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold as a slave to sin. For what I do, I do not understand: for what I wish to do, that is what I do not do; but what I hate, that is what I find myself doing. If then, I do that which I do not wish to do, I agree with the Law that it is good. So then, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwells in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh), dwells nothing good: for I want to do good, but how to perform that which is good, I do not find. For the good that I want to do, I do not do it; but the evil that I do not wish to do, that is what I find myself doing. So if I do that which I do not wish to do, it is no longer I that am doing it, but sin that dwells in me.”

Without Christ as your Savior, you have no power to resist committing sin! Outwardly, you might look “normal”, but inwardly, there is a war going on in your soul every moment!

Isaiah 48:22: “There is no peace,’ says Jehovah, ‘to the wicked.’”

I remember when I was lost and going to Hell, before I was saved. My inward thoughts were always evil! Lust ruled in my life and almost destroyed me on numerous occasions.

I remember that there was constant confusion and turmoil inside my soul; but I thought it was normal; and it was normal, for a sinner!

Sin is the ruler and the master of the sinner! And the more that you have indulged in wickedness, the more that Satan and his demons are able to influence and control you.

Ephesians 4:26-27: “Be angry, but sin not; let not the sun go down upon your wrath; neither give an opportunity to the devil.”

The Greek word for “opportunity” is “τοπον”, which means “a beachhead”.

The concept is similar to a military action such as Normandy in WW2, where the allies landed on the coast of France; once they were established in their beachhead there, they used that as a base of operations to begin to attack the Nazis in other places; and eventually, they won the war.

In other words, if you allow Satan into your life in one area, this becomes a beachhead for him to begin to attack you in other areas of your life. And if you don’t repent of those sins that allowed the devil into your life in the first place, then Satan will begin to dominate and control you until you are destroyed, both morally and physically. This is true of both believers in Christ and the Lost.

The Law of Moses condemns the born again Christian who tries to keep the Law of Moses to please God

Complement “O wretched man that I am! Who shall deliver me from this dead body? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Unique “So then, with the mind, I myself serve the Law of God; but with the flesh, [I serve] the law of sin.”

Notice that this text is in Chapter 2.3 of Romans, so the application is to born again Christians who have repented of their sins and received Jesus Christ as their personal Savior.

The battle against sin is won in the mind! As believers in Christ, WE DECIDE to deny ourselves, repent of all sins, and follow Jesus Christ:

Luke 16:24: “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

The power to overcome sin in our minds comes from our faith in the Finished Work of Christ and his precious Blood that Jesus shed for us on the cross!

In other words, simply refuse to obey the temptation to sin! “I am dead to sin! I refuse to look at that, or want that, or steal that, or tell that lie etc! I have decided to follow Jesus!” Amen.

Romans 6:12-14: “Therefore, let not sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey the lusts of the flesh; neither yield your body parts as instruments of unrighteousness to sin; but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your body parts as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not rule over you: for you are not under the Law of Moses, but under grace.”

Galatians 5:16-18: “This I say then: walk in obedience to the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh: for the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary the one to the other, so that you cannot do the things that you wish. But if you are led of the Spirit, you are not under the Law.”

The power of the Holy Spirit to defeat sin flows from the Finished Work of Christ on the cross and his precious Blood!

“walk in obedience to the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh”

If we have repented of our sins and received Jesus Christ as our personal Savior, then we already have the victory over sin through Christ! The key is to understand what the Bible says about these things (such as I have just described), and put them into practice in your own life.

It takes both denial of self and trust in Christ to defeat sin! If all you do is attempt to deny yourself, but ignore Jesus Christ, then you will be defeated, sooner or later!

The spiritual battle against Satan and his demons

Satan and his demons are far more powerful than any human being: do not attempt to make war against them without Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord of your life. Amen.

Ephesians 6:10-18: “Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil: for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this Age, and against evil spirits in high places. Therefore take to you the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day; and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your waist girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the Gospel of peace. Above all, having taken up the shield of faith (by which you shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the Wicked one), also take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit (which is the Word of God): praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit; and in accordance with this, continually watching with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”

In addition to the temptation to sin that comes from within own flesh, and the temptations in the world: the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life; there are also the temptations that comes directly from Satan and his demons. This is the invisible enemy that makes war against the minds of both believers and unbelievers, 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

Some people say that they have thoughts about homosexuality; so based on this, they believe that they must be a homosexual. But this is false, my friends!

Many murderers have claimed that they heard voices that told them to kill. Those voices were demons! But the murderers thought that the voices were from God, so they obeyed them. Satan and his demons are able to communicate with our minds using their powers in the spirit world. This is the source of evil thoughts about homosexuality, fornication, and adultery!

We know that these thoughts are evil, because homosexuality is condemned by God as an abomination that is worthy of death!

Romans 1:24-27: “Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonor their own bodies between themselves; who exchanged the truth of God for the Lie; and they worshiped and served the created thing more than the Creator, who is blessed into the Ages. Amen. For this reason, God gave them up to vile affections: for even their women changed the natural use into that which is against nature. And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another: men with men doing that which is shameful, and receiving in themselves that repayment of their error which was appropriate.”

Genesis 13:13: “But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful before Jehovah.”

Leviticus 18:22: “You shall not lie with a man, as with a woman; it is abomination.”

If you allow thoughts of homosexuality, fornication, adultery, murder, covetousness, greed, pornography, drug or alcohol addition, etc to rule your thoughts, then you have become a captive slave to Satan, who will bring ruin and destruction into your life!

2 Timothy 2:24-26: “And the servant of the Lord must not strive, but be gentle to all men, able to teach, and patient; in meekness instructing those that contradict themselves, if perhaps God will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth, and that they might recover themselves out of the snare of the devil; who are taken captive by him at his will.”

But Jesus Christ came to die on the cross to atone for your sins and to deliver you from the power of Satan! There is no need to continue as a slave of the devil. Amen.

But if you attempt to defeat Satan and his demons in your own strength, you will fail!

Acts 19:13-16: “Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon themselves to call the Name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “We command you by Jesus whom Paul preaches!” And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, who did so. And the evil spirit answered and said, “Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?” And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.”

These demons attack us with evil thoughts! We must bring our thoughts into captivity to Jesus Christ at all times! Here are some Scriptures that I will use in the points below to make applications:

2 Corinthians 10:3-5: “For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of fortresses [of sin]; casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God; and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”

Acts 16:16-18: “And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain girl having a soothsaying demon met us, who brought her masters much gain by fortune-telling. The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, “These men are the servants of the most high God, who show to us the way of salvation!” And she did this many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, “I command you in the Name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!” And he came out the same hour.”

1 Peter 5:8-9: “Be sober and be vigilant, because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour; whom resist steadfast in the Faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”

Romans 12:1-2: “Therefore, I exhort you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice: holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this age; but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is that good, acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

1 Peter 2:2: “As newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the Word, that you may grow thereby.”

Acts 2:41-42: “Then they that gladly received his Word were baptized; and the same day about three thousand souls were added to the Assembly. And they continued steadfastly in the teaching and fellowship of the Apostles, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

Here is how you can defeat Satan and his demons in the war for your mind

When you feel your mind becoming overwhelmed with thoughts about some sin:

1) Identify in words who is attacking you with what: “I take authority over you demons that are attacking me with thoughts about ‘the sin of x’”. Acts 16:16-18

2) Refuse to allow the thoughts to remain in your mind: “I refuse these thoughts about ‘the sin of x’”. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5; Romans 8:5-6

3) Command the demons to leave in the Name of Jesus Christ: “I command Satan and you demons to leave in the Name of Jesus Christ!” Acts 16:16-18

4) Submit your body, soul, and spirit to the Lord Jesus Christ and his Word every day: “I surrender my body, soul, and spirit to you, Lord Jesus Christ!” Ephesians 6:10-18; Romans 12:1-2

5) Determine to obey the Word of God in every part of your life, every day: at work, at home, or elsewhere. Learn what the Bible says, and put it into practice with the help of the Lord. Ephesians 6:10-18; Romans 12:1-2

6) Read a chapter of the Bible every day. You should download and use the Kingdom Study Bible (KSB) in PDF from my website for home Bible study. Use the King James version at your church for now, because the KSB is not in print. I don’t recommend any other Bible version. 1 Peter 2:2; Romans 8:5-6

7) Start every day with prayer and Bible reading! We need the milk and meat of the Word of God in our souls to become spiritually strong in the Lord. 1 Peter 2:2

8) Join and attend a Bible believing, Independent Baptist church every week, and get busy serving the Lord through the church. Do not join a Roman Catholic, protestant, or a liberal church, because there is no spiritual food for your soul in those places! They are not teaching the truth about Jesus Christ or the Bible. Also, beware of many modernist churches that use ungodly rock music, smoke, and disco lights in their services! These are not true churches for the sheep of the Lord, but goat farms! Acts 2:41-42

God has give all born again believers in Jesus Christ the authority to cast out and drive away Satan and his demons! Do not listen to those who say that it was only for the Apostles; that is false.

Conclusion

Born again Christian! Be an overcomer of sin and the world. Do not allow Satan and the world to overcome you! The rewards for following Christ faithfully are rich indeed:

Revelation 2:7: “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Assemblies: ‘To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the Tree of Life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.’”

Revelation 2:11: “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Assemblies: ‘He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.’”

Revelation 2:17: “He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Assemblies: ‘To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna. And I will give him a white stone; and in the stone a new name written, which no man knows except he that receives it.’”

Revelation 3:5-6: “He that overcomes, the same shall be clothed in white garments; and I will not blot out his name out of the Book of Life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Assemblies.’’”

Also Revelation 2:26-29; 3:12-13; 3:21-22.

This text does NOT apply to anyone who is trying to earn their way into Heaven with good works, or are worshiping idols of false gods such as Mary and the saints: including liberals, Roman Catholics, Muslims, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Hindus, Buddhists, Shintoists, and many other cults. If this describes you, then your destination will be Hell, and then the Lake of Fire!

John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, ‘I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.’”

John 10:1: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.”

You are a slave to Satan and cannot be delivered from your sins, UNLESS you repent of your unbelief in the Bible, your idols and your false gods and turn to Jesus Christ to receive his free gift of Salvation that He died on the cross to provide for you, free of charge!

Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was born of a virgin; He lived a sinless life, and He gave his life on the cross to atone for all of our sins, and He rose again from the dead on the third day.

The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:

Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are ready to be saved, then you can use the following prayer to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Lo opuesto “¿Entonces, ¿la cosa buena se convirtió en muerte para mí? ¡Ciertamente no! Pero la ley engrandeció el pecado, para que pueda demostrarse que es pecaminoso: obrando la muerte en mí por lo que es bueno, para que el pecado por el mandamiento pueda volverse extremadamente pecaminoso. Porque sabemos que la Ley es espiritual; pero soy carnal, vendido como esclavo a el pecado. Por lo que hago, no entiendo: por lo que deseo hacer, eso es lo que no hago; pero lo que odio, eso es lo que me encuentro haciendo. Si entonces, hago lo que no quiero hacer, estoy de acuerdo con la Ley que ello es buena. Así que, ya no soy yo quien lo hace, sino el pecado que mora en mí. Porque sé que en mí (es decir, en mi carne) habita nada bueno; porque quiero hacer el bien, pero cómo hacer lo que es bueno, no lo encuentro. Porque el bien que quiero hacer, no lo hago; pero el mal que no quiero hacer, eso es lo que me encuentro haciendo. Así que si hago lo que no quiero hacer, ya no es yo el que lo estoy haciendo, sino el pecado que habita en mí”.

El complemento “Por lo tanto, hallo concerniente a la Ley, que cuando deseo hacer el bien, el mal está siempre presente conmigo: porque me deleito en la Ley de Dios según el hombre interior; pero veo otra ley en las partes de mi cuerpo, haciendo guerra contra la Ley de mi mente, y llevándome en cautiverio a la ley del pecado que está en las partes de mi cuerpo.

El complemento “¡Oh, miserable hombre que soy! ¿Quién me librará desde este cuerpo muerto? Doy gracias a Dios través de Jesucristo nuestro Señor.

Único “Así que, con la mente, yo mismo sirvo a la Ley de Dios; pero con la carne, sirvo a la ley del pecado”.

Comentarios: Lo primero es que actualicé el título (el tema) de este párrafo, porque me di cuenta de que no era todo lo preciso que debería ser. Cuando encuentro algo en mi esquema que se puede mejorar, lo actualizaré.

También, observe el diseño de la Proporción Áurea de este párrafo en sus subpárrafos: se trata del diseño opuesto (OO-CCU) del párrafo anterior, que era “UCC-OO”, o “uno único, dos complementarios y dos opuestos”. El diseño de la Proporción Áurea es la prueba de la Inspiración Divina sobre su Palabra.

¡Este párrafo es muy significativo para todo cristiano nacido de nuevo! La lucha para no pecar contra Dios es una que todo creyente debe enfrentar todos los días.

No queremos pecar contra Dios; pero de vez en cuando nos encontramos haciendo en la carne lo que no queremos hacer en el espíritu.

Este texto se basa en el texto de Romanos 7:1-6, donde Pablo discutió la relación entre la Ley de Moisés y el creyente nacido de nuevo en Jesucristo.

Romans 7:4-6: “Por tanto, mis hermanos, ustedes también habéis sido hechos muertos a la Ley por el cuerpo crucificado de Cristo; que deberíais estar casado con otro, incluso al quien fue resucitado de entre los muertos, que deberíamos dar fruto a Dios: porque cuando estábamos en la carne, las mociones que conducen a los pecados, que eran por la Ley, trabajaron en las partes de nuestro cuerpo para producir fruto para muerte. Pero ahora, hemos sido liberados desde la Ley, ese siendo muerto en el que estábamos retenidos, que debemos servir en novedad de espíritu, y no en la antigüedad de la letra”.

El propósito de la Ley es para magnificar el pecado en la conciencia de los pecadores, para que podamos buscar el perdón de Dios a través de la Obra Consumada de Cristo en la cruz: ¡no tiene otro propósito!

Romanos 3:19-20: “Y sabemos que cualquier cosa que dice la Ley, ello les dice a los que son bajos la Ley, para que cada boca puede estar cerrada, y todo el mundo puede llegar a ser culpable ante Dios; por tanto, por las obras de la Ley ninguna carne será justificada en su vista: porque por la Ley es el conocimiento del pecado”.

Gálatas 3:24: “Por lo tanto, la Ley fue nuestro tutor para señalarnos a Cristo, para que pudiéramos ser justificados por la fe en él”.

La Ley de Moisés = La justicia y la ira de Dios contra todos los pecados, incluso el más mínimo; con el castigo de nuestros pecados en el Infierno y más tarde, en el Lago de Fuego, ¡por los siglos de los siglos de los siglos!

El Evangelio de la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz = La misericordia, la gracia y el perdón de Dios por todos los pecados, incluso el más mínimo; ¡y el don de la Vida Eterna en el Cielo!

El despertar de un niño a la conciencia del pecado en su alma

Romans 7:7-12: “¿Qué diremos entonces? ¿Es pecado la Ley? ¡Ciertamente no! Yo no conocí el pecado, sino por la Ley: porque no hubiera conocido la lujuria, excepto que la Ley había dicho, “No codiciarás”. Pero el pecado, tomando ocasión por el Mandamiento, produjo en mí toda clase de malos deseos. Porque aparte desde la Ley, el pecado estaba muerto: Porque [como un infante], yo estaba vivo una vez aparte de la Ley, pero cuando vino el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí [espiritualmente]. Y el Mandamiento, cual fue ordenado para vida, descubrí que era hasta la muerte: porque el pecado, tomando ocasión por el Mandamiento, me engañó, y por él me mató. Por lo tanto, la Ley es santa; y el Mandamiento es santo, y justo, y bueno”.

En este subpárrafo, el apóstol Pablo recordó su propia experiencia con la Ley y su despertar al pecado cuando era niño (como Saulo de Tarso) cuando llegó a la edad de rendir cuentas:

“Porque aparte desde la Ley, el pecado estaba muerto: Porque [como un infante], yo estaba vivo una vez aparte de la Ley, pero cuando vino el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí [espiritualmente].”

En otras palabras, antes de la edad de la responsabilidad, ¡el niño Saúl estaba espiritualmente vivo! Los bebés y niños pequeños de hasta 3 o 4 años no pueden entender el concepto de pecado; sólo entienden la “ley” de su mamá y su papá cuando dicen “¡No!”

Pero en algún momento, llegan a tener edad suficiente para entender qué es un pecado, especialmente si mamá y papá los llevan a una iglesia que cree a la Biblia y ellos oyen el evangelio que se les predica. Y cuando sí entienden el concepto de pecado, llega el momento cuando deciden hacer algo malo: le roban algo a su hermano o hermana, dicen una mentira “¡Yo no!”, “¡Es su culpa!” etc. Y luego se vuelven pecadores a los ojos de Dios, con plena responsabilidad ante Dios por sus pecados.

Antes de que llegue ese tiempo, si mueren, irán al Cielo, porque no entienden el pecado, y Dios no los hará responsables por los pecados que cometieron en ignorancia, ¡porque Dios es un Dios misericordioso y justo!

Pablo escribió,

“Porque [como un infante], yo estaba vivo una vez aparte de la Ley”.

Antes de la edad de la responsabilidad, ¡los bebés y los niños pequeños están espiritualmente vivos! Todavía no han muerto en su espíritu.

Pero cuando se comete el primer pecado, su espíritu muere por dentro, y comienzan el proceso de endurecerse hacia el pecado, lo que lleva a más y más pecados, hasta que el resultado final es la muerte:

Jacobo 1:13-15: “Deja que ningún hombre diga cuando sea tentado, “Soy tentado por dios”: porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal; ni él tienta a nadie. Pero todo hombre es tentado, cuando es arrastrado por su propia lujuria, y seducido. Entonces cuando la lujuria ha concebido, ello da a luz el pecado; y el pecado, cuando es completamente crecido, engendra muerte”.

Pablo dijo que cuando aprendió la Ley de Moisés (los Diez Mandamientos) siendo niño, murió:

“pero cuando vino el mandamiento, el pecado revivió, y yo morí [espiritualmente]”.

¿Cómo murió Saúl? Estaba físicamente vivo, por lo que el significado es que murió espiritualmente. A partir de ese momento, no tuvo conocimiento de Dios personalmente y no pudo conocer a Dios hasta que nació de nuevo en el camino a Damasco.

Juan 3:3: “Jesús respondió y le dijo, “En verdad, en verdad, te digo: a menos que un hombre nazca de arriba, no puede ver el Reino de Dios”.

La Ley de Moisés condena al pecador y magnifica el pecado en su conciencia

Romanos 7:13-20: “¿Entonces, ¿la cosa buena se convirtió en muerte para mí? ¡Ciertamente no! Pero la ley engrandeció el pecado, para que pueda demostrarse que es pecaminoso: obrando la muerte en mí por lo que es bueno, para que el pecado por el mandamiento pueda volverse extremadamente pecaminoso. Porque sabemos que la Ley es espiritual; pero soy carnal, vendido como esclavo a el pecado. Por lo que hago, no entiendo: por lo que deseo hacer, eso es lo que no hago; pero lo que odio, eso es lo que me encuentro haciendo. Si entonces, hago lo que no quiero hacer, estoy de acuerdo con la Ley que ello es buena. Así que, ya no soy yo quien lo hace, sino el pecado que mora en mí. Porque sé que en mí (es decir, en mi carne) habita nada bueno; porque quiero hacer el bien, pero cómo hacer lo que es bueno, no lo encuentro. Porque el bien que quiero hacer, no lo hago; pero el mal que no quiero hacer, eso es lo que me encuentro haciendo. Así que si hago lo que no quiero hacer, ya no es yo el que lo estoy haciendo, sino el pecado que habita en mí”.

¡Sin Cristo como tu Salvador, no tienes poder para resistirte a cometer pecado! Exteriormente, puede que parezcas “normal”, pero interiormente, ¡hay una guerra en tu alma a cada momento!

Isaías 48:22: “No hay paz”, dice Jehová, “a los malvados”.

Recuerdo cuando estaba perdido e iba al infierno, antes de ser salvado. ¡Mis pensamientos internos siempre fueron malos! La lujuria gobernó mi vida y casi me destruye en numerosas ocasiones.

Recuerdo que dentro de mi alma había constante confusión y agitación; pero pensé que era normal; ¡Y era normal, para un pecador!

¡El pecado es el gobernante y el amo del pecador! Y cuanto más te hayas entregado a la maldad, más podrán para influenciarte y controlarte Satanás y sus demonios.

Efesios 4:26-27: “Enojaos, pero no pequéis; no se ponga el sol sobre tu ira; ni deis oportunidad al diablo”.

La palabra griega para “oportunidad” es “τοπον”, que significa “una cabeza de playa”.

El concepto es similar a una acción militar como la de Normandía en la Segunda Guerra Mundial, donde los aliados desembarcaron en la costa de Francia; una vez establecidos allí en su cabeza de playa, la utilizaron como base de operaciones para comenzar a atacar a los nazis en otros lugares; y finalmente ganaron la guerra.

En otras palabras, si permites que Satanás entre en tu vida en un área, esto se convierte en una cabeza de playa para que él comience a atacarte en otras áreas de tu vida. Y si no te arrepientes de esos pecados que permitieron que el diablo entrara en tu vida, entonces Satanás comenzará a dominarte y controlarte hasta que seas destruido, tanto moral como físicamente. Esto es cierto tanto para los creyentes en Cristo y para los perdidos.

La Ley de Moisés condena al cristiano nacido de nuevo que intenta guardar la Ley de Moisés para agradar a Dios

El complemento “¡Oh, miserable hombre que soy! ¿Quién me librará desde este cuerpo muerto? Doy gracias a Dios través de Jesucristo nuestro Señor.

Único “Así que, con la mente, yo mismo sirvo a la Ley de Dios; pero con la carne, sirvo a la ley del pecado”.

Note que este texto está en el Capítulo 2.3 de Romanos, por lo que la aplicación es para cristianos nacidos de nuevo que se han arrepentido de sus pecados y han recibido a Jesucristo como su Salvador personal.

¡La batalla contra el pecado se gana en la mente! Como creyentes en Cristo, DECIDIMOS negarnos a nosotros mismos, arrepentirnos de todos los pecados y seguir a Jesucristo:

Lucas 16:24: “Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos, “Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, déjalo negarse a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame”.

¡El poder para vencer el pecado en nuestra mente proviene de nuestra fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo y su preciosa Sangre que Jesús derramó por nosotros en la cruz!

En otras palabras, ¡simplemente rehúsa obedecer la tentación de pecar! “¡Estoy muerto al pecado! ¡Me niego a mirar eso, o querer eso, o robar eso, o decir esa mentira, etc.! ¡He decidido seguir a Jesús!" Amén.

Romanos 6:12-14: “Por tanto, no dejéis que el pecado reine en vuestro cuerpo mortal, para que obedecéis las concupiscencias los deseos de la carne; ni sometáis tus partes del cuerpo como instrumentos de iniquidad al pecado; sino someted mismos hasta Dios, como los que están vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros como instrumentos de justicia hasta Dios. Porque el pecado no se enseñoreará de ustedes: porque no son bajos la Ley de Moisés, sino bajo la gracia”.

Gálatas 5:16-18: “Digo, pues: andad en el Espíritu, y no satisfagáis la concupiscencia de la carne: porque la carne codicia contra el Espíritu, y el Espíritu contra la carne; y éstos se oponen entre sí, para que no podáis hacer lo que quisiereis. Pero si sois guiados por el Espíritu, no estáis bajo la Ley”.

¡El poder del Espíritu Santo para derrotar el pecado fluye de la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz y su preciosa Sangre!

“andad en el Espíritu, y no satisfagáis la concupiscencia de la carne”

Si nos hemos arrepentido de nuestros pecados y hemos recibido a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal, ¡entonces ya tenemos la victoria sobre el pecado a través de Cristo! La clave es para entender lo que dice la Biblia acerca de estas cosas (como las que acabo de describir) y ponerlas en práctica en tu propia vida.

¡Se necesita tanto la negación de uno mismo como la confianza en Cristo para derrotar al pecado! Si todo lo que haces es intentar negarte a ti mismo, pero ignorar a Jesucristo, ¡tarde o temprano serás derrotado!

La batalla espiritual contra Satanás y sus demonios

Satanás y sus demonios son mucho más poderosos que cualquier ser humano: no intentes hacerles la guerra sin Jesucristo como tu Salvador y Señor de tu vida. Amén.

Efesios 6:10-18: “Finalmente, hermanos míos, sé fuerte en el Señor, y en la fuerza de su poder. Vestíos de toda la armadura de Dios para que podáis permanecer firmes a pesar de las artimañas del diablo: porque no luchamos contra la carne y la sangre, sino contra los principados, contra los poderes, contra los gobernantes de las tinieblas de esta Edad, y contra los espíritus malignos en los lugares altos. Por tanto, tomad a ustedes toda la armadura de Dios, que ustedes pueden ser capaz de soportar en el día malo; y habiendo hecho todo, estar de pie. Estad firmes, por lo tanto, con su cintura rodeado con la verdad, y vestidos con la coraza de justicia; y sus pies equipó con la preparación del Evangelio de paz. Encima todo, tomando el escudo de la fe (con el cual ustedes será de capaz extinguir todos los dardos ardientes del Malvado), también tomad el casco de la salvación, y la espada del Espíritu (cual es la Palabra de Dios); orando siempre con toda oración y súplica en el Espíritu; y de acuerdo con esto, vigilando continuamente con toda perseverancia y súplica por todos los santos”.

Además de la tentación de pecar que viene desde dentro de la propia carne, y las tentaciones en el mundo: los deseos de la carne, los deseos de los ojos y la soberbia de la vida; También están las tentaciones que provienen directamente desde Satanás y sus demonios. ¡Este es el enemigo invisible que hace la guerra contra las mentes tanto de creyentes y de incrédulos, las 24 horas del día, los siete días de la semana!

Algunas personas dicen que tienen pensamientos sobre la homosexualidad; entonces basado en esto, ellos creen que deben ser homosexuales. ¡Pero esto es falso, amigos míos!

Muchos asesinos han afirmado que escucharon voces que les decían que mataran. ¡Esas voces eran demonios! Pero los asesinos pensaron que las voces eran de Dios, así que las obedecieron. Satanás y sus demonios pueden comunicarse con nuestra mente usando sus poderes en el mundo de los espíritus. ¡Ésta es la fuente de los malos pensamientos acerca de la homosexualidad, la fornicación y el adulterio!

¡Sabemos que estos pensamientos son malos, porque la homosexualidad es condenada por Dios como una abominación digna de muerte!

Romanos 1:24-27: “Por lo tanto, Dios también los entregó arriba a la inmundicia a través de las concupiscencias de sus propios corazones, para deshonrar sus propios cuerpos entre ellos mismos; quienes cambiaron la verdad de Dios por la mentira; y adoraron y sirvieron a lo cosa creada más que al Creador, quien es bendito hasta las edades. Amén. Por esta razón, Dios los entregó a pasiones vergonzosas: porque aun sus mujeres cambiaron el uso natural en lo que es contra la naturaleza. Y igualmente también los hombres, dejando el uso natural de la mujer, se encendieron en su lujuria uno hacia el otro: hombres con hombres haciendo lo que es vergonzoso, y recibiendo en sí mismos la retribución de su error lo cual fue apropiado”.

Génesis 13:13: “Pero los hombres de Sodoma eran sumamente malvados y pecadores ante Jehová”.

Levíticio 18:22: “No te acostarás con varón como con mujer; es abominación”.

Si permites que pensamientos de homosexualidad, fornicación, adulterio, asesinato, codicia, avaricia, pornografía, adicción a drogas o alcohol, etc., gobiernen tus pensamientos, ¡Entonces te has convertido en un esclavo cautivo de Satanás, quien traerá ruina y destrucción a tu vida!

2 Timoteo 2:24-26: “Y el siervo del Señor no debe esforzarse, sino ser amable con todos los hombres, capaz de enseñar y paciente; en mansedumbre, instruyendo a aquellos que se contradicen ellos mismos, si tal vez Dios les dará arrepentimiento para reconocer la verdad, y que podrían recuperarse de la trampa del diablo; que son tomados cautivos por él en su voluntad”.

¡Pero Jesucristo vino a morir en la cruz para expiar tus pecados y librarte del poder de Satanás! No hay necesidad de seguir siendo esclavo del diablo. Amén.

Pero si intentas derrotar a Satanás y sus demonios con tus propias fuerzas, ¡fracasarás!

Hechos 19:13-16: “Entonces algunos de los judíos vagabundos, exorcistas, tomaron sobre ellos mismos para invocar el nombre del Señor Jesús encima ellos quien tenían espíritus malignos, diciendo, “¡Nosotros os mandamos por Jesús, quien Pablo predica!”. Y había siete hijos de un Sceva, un judío, y príncipe de los sacerdotes, quien hacían esto. Y respondiendo el espíritu malo, dijo, “Jesús conozco, y Pablo conozco; pero ¿quiénes sois?”. Y el hombre en quien estaba el espíritu malo saltó sobre ellos, y dominándolos, prevaleció contra ellos, de tal manera que huyeron de aquella casa, desnudos y heridos”.

¡Estos demonios nos atacan con malos pensamientos! ¡Debemos traer nuestros pensamientos en cautiverio a Jesucristo en todo momento! Aquí hay algunas Escrituras que usaré en los puntos siguientes para hacer aplicaciones:

2 Corintios 10:3-5: “Pues aunque andamos en la carne, no militamos según la carne; porque las armas de nuestra milicia no son carnales, sino poderoso a través de Dios al derribo de fortalezas [del pecado]; derribando argumentos y toda altivez que se levanta contra el conocimiento de Dios; y trayendo cautivo todo pensamiento a la obediencia de Cristo”.

Romanos 8:5-6: “Porque los que andan conforme a la carne, piensan acerca de las cosas de la carne; pero los que andan conforme el Espíritu, piensan acerca de las cosas del Espíritu. Porque tener una mente carnal es la muerte, pero tener una mente espiritual es vida y paz”.

Hechos 16:16-18: “Y llegó a pasar, como fuimos a orar, que una cierta muchacha que tenía un demonio de la adivinación nos conoció, quien trajo a sus amos mucho dinero por la adivinación. La misma muchacha siguió a Pablo ya nosotros, y gritó, diciendo: “¡Estos hombres son siervos del Dios Altísimo, quien nos muestra el camino de salvación!”. Y ella hizo esto muchos días. Pero Pablo, estando molestado, se volvió y dijo al espíritu: “¡Te mando en el Nombre de Jesucristo para salir de ella!”. Y él salió la misma hora”.

1 Pedro 5:8-9: “Sed sobrios, y velad: porque vuestro adversario el diablo, cual león rugiente, camina alrededor, buscando a quien él puede devorar; al cual resistid firmes en la fe, sabiendo que las mismas aflicciones han de ser cumplidas en vuestros hermanos que están en el mundo”.

Romanos 12:1-2: “Por tanto, yo os exhorto, hermanos, por las misericordias de Dios, que presentéis vuestros cuerpos como un sacrificio vivo: santo y aceptable para Dios, cual es vuestro servicio razonable. Y no os conforméis a este edad; sino sé transformado por la renovación de vuestra mente, para que puedas discernir cuál es esa buena, aceptable y perfecta voluntad de Dios”.

1 Pedro 2:2: “como niños recién nacidos, desead la leche pura de la Palabra, para que por ella crezcáis”.

Hechos 2:41-42: “Así que, los que con gozo recibieron su Palabra, fueron bautizados; y el mismo día, alrededor de tres mil almas fueron agregadas a la Asamblea. Y continuaron firmemente en la enseñanza y la comunión de los Apóstoles, y en el partimiento del pan, y en las oraciones”.

Así es como puedes derrotar a Satanás y sus demonios en la guerra por tu mente.

Cuando sientas que tu mente se abruma con pensamientos sobre algún pecado:

1) Identifica con palabras quién te está atacando y con qué: “Tomo autoridad sobre ustedes demonios que me están atacando con pensamientos sobre el pecado de ‘x’”. Hechos 16:16-18

2) Niégate a permitir que los pensamientos permanezcan en tu mente: “Rechazo estos pensamientos sobre el pecado de ‘x’”. 2 Corintios 10:3-5; Romanos 8:5-6

3) Ordena a los demonios que se vayan en el Nombre de Jesucristo: “¡Le ordeno a Satanás y a ustedes demonios que se vayan en el Nombre de Jesucristo!” Hechos 16:16-18

4) Somete tu cuerpo, alma y espíritu al Señor Jesucristo y su Palabra todos los días: “¡Te entrego mi cuerpo, alma y espíritu a ti, Señor Jesucristo!” Efesios 6:10-18; Romanos 12:1-2

5) Decídete a obedecer la Palabra de Dios en cada aspecto de tu vida, todos los días: en el trabajo, en casa o en cualquier otro lugar. Aprende lo que dice la Biblia y ponlo en práctica con la ayuda del Señor. Efesios 6:10-18; Romanos 12:1-2

6) Lee un capítulo de la Biblia todos los días. Deberías descargar y utilizar el Reino Estudio Biblia (REB) desde mi sitio web para el estudio bíblico en casa. Utilice la versión King James en su iglesia por ahora, porque la REB no está impresa. No recomiendo ninguna otra versión de la Biblia. No conozco ninguna versión buena de la Biblia en español excepto la REB. 1 Pedro 2:2; Romanos 8:5-6

7) ¡Comience cada día con oración y lectura de la Biblia! Necesitamos la leche y la carne de la Palabra de Dios en nuestras almas para volvernos fuertes espiritualmente en el Señor. 1 Pedro 2:2

8) Únete y asiste a una iglesia bautista independiente que cree en la Biblia cada semana y ocúpese sirviendo al Señor a través de la iglesia. ¡Ni te unas a una iglesia católica romana, protestante o liberal, porque no hay alimento espiritual para tu alma en esos lugares! No están enseñando la verdad sobre Jesucristo o la Biblia. Además, ¡cuidado con muchas iglesias modernistas que utilizan música rock impía, humo y luces de discoteca en sus servicios! ¡Estas no son verdaderas iglesias para las ovejas del Señor, sino granjas de cabras! Hechos 2:41-42

¡Dios ha dado a todos los creyentes nacidos de nuevo en Jesucristo la autoridad para expulsar y ahuyentar a Satanás y sus demonios! No escuchen a los que dicen que fue sólo para los Apóstoles; eso es falso.

Conclusión

Born again Christian! Be an overcomer of sin and the world. Do not allow Satan and the world to overcome you! The rewards for following Christ faithfully are rich indeed:

La revelación 2:7: “El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las Asambleas, ‘Al que venciere, le daré a comer del Árbol de la Vida, el cual está en medio del Paraíso de Dios’”.

La revelación 2:11: “El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las Asambleas, ‘El que venciere no recibirá daño de la muerte segunda’”.

La revelación 2:17: “El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las Asambleas, ‘Al que venciere, le daré a comer del maná escondido, y le daré una piedrecita blanca, y en la piedrecita un nombre nuevo escrito, el cual ninguno conoce sino aquel que lo recibe’”.

La revelación 3:5-6: “El que venciere será vestido de vestiduras blancas; y no borraré su nombre del Libro de la Vida, y confesaré su nombre delante de mi Padre, y delante de sus ángeles. El que tiene oído, oiga lo que el Espíritu dice a las Asambleas’’”.

También la revelación 2:26-29; 3:12-13; 3:21-22.

Este texto NO aplica a nadie que esté tratando de ganarse el camino al Cielo con buenas obras, o esté adorando ídolos de dioses falsos como María y los santos: incluidos liberales, católicos romanos, musulmanes, mormones, testigos de Jehová, hindúes, budistas, sintoístas y muchos otros cultos. Si esto te describe, entonces tu destino será el Infierno y luego el Lago de Fuego.

Juan 14:6: “Jesús le dijo, ‘Soy el Camino, la Verdad y la Vida; nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí’”.

Juan 10:1: “Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: el que no entra por la puerta en el redil de las ovejas, pero se trepa arriba alguna otra manera, lo mismo es un ladrón y salteador”.

Eres esclavo de Satanás y no puedes ser liberado de tus pecados, A MENOS que te arrepientas de tu incredulidad en la Biblia, tus ídolos y tus dioses falsos y acude a Jesucristo para recibir su regalo gratuito de la Salvación que Él murió en la cruz para proveerte, ¡gratis!

Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que nació de una virgen; Vivió una vida sin pecado, Él dio su vida en la cruz para expiar todos nuestros pecados y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día.

La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:

Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.

Si estás listo para ser salvado, entonces puedes usar la siguiente oración para arrepentirte y recibir al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
