Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

Comments: I have rearranged these two paragraphs internally since the last study, because I realized that the arrangement was not accurate. The purposes of these detailed studies are two-fold:

1) To help verify that the arrangement is accurate according to the Golden Ratio design; and if not, correct it. After more than twenty years of work, corrections are getting much less frequent; but they still occur now and then. So I’m always looking for ways to make the arrangement as accurate as possible. To that end, I have made updates also to the themes of the outline for the introduction section and in the body section. I trust it will be a blessing to you.

2) To teach the Bible using the Golden Ratio design and to explain how this arrangement works, from the lowest to the highest levels of the Golden Ratio design. This is equally important to this ministry, because currently, I am the only one who truly understands the Golden Ratio design and how it works. I’m trying to change that with these studies on Facebook at my own expense.

For sin shall not rule over you: for you are not under the Law of Moses, but under grace.”

Complement “What then? Shall we sin, because we are not under the Law, but under grace? Certainly not. Do you not know, that to whom you yield yourselves servants to obey, you are his servants to whom you obey: whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But thanks to God, that you were the servants of sin; but you have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered to you. Being then made free from sin, you became the servants of righteousness.

Complement “I speak after the manner of men, because of the weakness of your flesh: for as you have yielded your body parts servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now yield your body parts as servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness.

Unique “What fruit then did you have in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death. But now, being made free from sin and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end Everlasting Life: for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Comments: Please notice that in the first paragraph (Romans 6:1-7), the paragraph is all about water baptism. But in the second paragraph, it is all about yielding your body and mind to God the Holy Spirit instead of sin.

¶Opposite After baptism, yield your bodies to God every day to have continued victory over sin (6:8 - 23)

Notice how these two paragraphs oppose each other in their themes! After salvation, we must be baptized by immersion, so that we can walk in the likeness of his resurrection. Thus, you see the importance of baptism for a believer in Jesus Christ! It is the most important first step of obedience; it sets the believer on the path of obedience to God and a life of righteous living.

And after baptism, we must yield our body to God every day, so that we might have continued victory over sin!

The common theme of these two paragraphs is to yield; but the great difference is when to yield:

After salvation, yielding your body for baptism is once in your entire life; but after baptism, yielding your body to God is repeated every day for the rest of your life! In this way, the themes oppose each other.

Notice the highlighted words in the second paragraph:

Dominion, reign, rule, yield, obey, rule over, servants.

These are the key words that tell us what this paragraph is all about.

I used to use the term “old sin nature” in this part of Romans; but I believe that the Lord showed me that this was not correct. The biblical term is “old man”, not “sin nature”, a term that is not in the Greek text.

The “old man” is “the old you/me” that was born into this world, whose father was Adam, the first sinner.

Romans 6:6-7: “Knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin: for he that is dead has been freed from sin.”

Ephesians 4:17-24: “This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that you henceforth walk not as other Gentiles walk, in the vanity of their mind; having the understanding darkened, being alienated from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart; who being past feeling have given themselves over to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.

But you have not so learned Christ, if it is true that you have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus, that you are to put off concerning the former behavior the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts. And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; and that you put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

The Bible says that we were crucified with Christ; that is to say, Christ paid the penalty of death for all of our sins on the cross; He made the perfect Atonement for every sin that ever was, and every sin that ever will be, on those three terrible hours on the cross.

And we died with Him on the cross! We were buried with Him, and we were resurrected with Him as the Head of all humanity that has repented and received Jesus Christ as their Savior. Our unity with Christ in his death, burial, and resurrection all happened in the mind of God, who knows all things: past, present, and future.

But the power of the resurrection in this life is only ours if we first receive Christ as our Savior, and then obey the command of Jesus to be baptized in deep water.

Romans 6:5: “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall also walk in the likeness of his resurrection.”

But if we have received Christ as our Savior, but not obeyed the command of Christ to be baptized, then we will always be spiritually weak! We will never grow in our faith and mature into strong, godly Christians who hear the Word of God, and do it.

Luke 6:46-49: Jesus said, “And why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord’; but you do not do the things that I say?

Whosoever comes to me, and hears my sayings, and does them, I will show you to whom he is like: he is like a man who built a house, and dug deep, and laid the foundation upon bedrock; and when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently upon that house; and it could not shake it, because it was founded upon bedrock.

But he that hears, and does not do them, is like a man that without a foundation built a house upon the earth; against which the stream pounded vehemently, and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great.”

Romans 6:8-10: “Now, if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him, knowing that Christ, having risen from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over him: for in that he died, he died unto sin once; but in that he lives, he lives unto God.

So Paul said that because Jesus rose from the dead, He will never die again: death cannot control Him ever again; it has no more “dominion” or “rule” over Him.

Romans 6:11: “In the same manner, consider yourselves also to be dead indeed to sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

And so, because we are “in Christ”, we have the same power to live victoriously over sin as Jesus does, because Jesus never sinned, and He never will sin, nor could He sin.

“In the same manner, consider yourselves also to be dead indeed to sin”

In other words, simply refuse to obey the temptation to sin!

“I am dead to sin! I refuse to look at that, or want that, or steal that, or tell that lie etc! I have decided to follow Jesus!” Amen.

Romans 6:12-14: “Therefore, let not sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey the lusts of the flesh; neither yield your body parts as instruments of unrighteousness to sin; but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your body parts as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not rule over you: for you are not under the Law of Moses, but under grace.”

This is a behavior that we have to learn by experience!

Luke 16:24: “Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If any will come after me, let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”

We do not resist the tempation to sin by nature; in other words, it was natural and normal for us to commit sins before we were saved. We obeyed the lust of the flesh, often without any resistance.

It is possible to say “No” to the flesh as a sinner; however, it is a work of the mind only; this kind of denial is done by sheer determination; and ultimately, it will fail.

For example, throughout history, many have tried to live for God (as they understood Him, usually in error) as monks or nuns, or celibate isolationists who lived in a cave or some remote location, to try to isolate themselves completely from the world and all temptation. Also, many of these people have whipped themselves with whips and chains to try to subdue the temptation to sin.

But this has never worked! The reason that they failed is because they were depending on the power of their own determination (the flesh) to prevail over sin; but their souls were dead in trespasses and sins, because they did not know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior! And when you are dead in trespasses and sins, you will never have victory over sin, because you belong to the devil: he is the ultimate sinner, and you are one of his children!

Ephesians 2:1-3: “And you, being dead in trespasses and sins; in which, in time past, you walked according to the course of this Age, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience; among whom also we all had our conduct in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.”

1 John 3:8-9: “He that continually sins is of the devil: for the devil sins from the beginning. The Son of God was manifested for this purpose, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God does not continually sin: for his Seed remains in him; and he cannot continually sin, because he is born of God.”

But if we want to truly say “No” to sin, we must have the help of the Holy Spirit to prevail over temptation; and a sinner does not have the Holy Spirit to help them. A born again Christian can say “No” to sin and temptation with our heart fixed on Jesus, and we can pray for the power of the Holy Spirit to prevail. A sinner cannot do that.

Victory over sin is possible with Jesus Christ as our Savior! Amen.

A personal testimony

Let me share a personal testimony with you: Before I was saved in 1982, I was addicted to pornography! I was also a drug addict, a cigarette smoker, and an alcoholic, among many other sins.

After I received Jesus Christ as my personal Savior in 1982, God helped me to stop smoking and drinking, although it took several months of spiritual growth to overcome those sins in my life.

But pornography is a poison that is not lightly set aside! No sir. Once you begin looking at it, it is a sin that consumes your life and destroys you from within. In reality, pornography is a doorway into the occult, the spirit world where Satan rules. And until you fully repent of that sin and get it out of your life permanently, it will destroy you spiritually, and you will never have true victory over sin.

It will lead to other sins as well, and eventually to your own destruction. Serial killers have testified that their addiction to pornography led them into their addiction to rape and murdering people, usually prostitutes; but others as well.

James 1:13-15: “Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God”: for God cannot be tempted with evil; neither does he tempt any man. But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away by his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust has conceived, it births sin; and sin, when it is fully grown, brings forth death.”

After a number of years that I struggled with addiction to pornography as a Christian, I finally decided that I was through with it, once and for all! I simply made a decision that I was never going to deliberately look at pornography again. Yes, it might come across my vision, especially while surfing the internet; but if that happened, I would immediately repent of that sin and go no further with it.

To my own amazement, the Lord Jesus has honored that decision and has helped me in this matter. I can truthfully say that I have not deliberately looked at any pornography since that day; and when I’ve seen something that I should not have, I immediately repented and got right with God.

This is the only way to defeat the devil, my friends! You have to make a decision once for all, never to turn back to that sin. I’m speaking of pornography, but this decision process will work for any particular sin: smoking, drinking, cursing, lying, stealing, adultery, fornication: any sin.

Paul stated the decision like this: to YIELD:

Romans 6:19-20: “I speak after the manner of men, because of the weakness of your flesh: for as you have yielded your body parts servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity, even so now yield your body parts as servants to righteousness unto holiness. For when you were the servants of sin, you were free from righteousness.”

The battle is all in your mind! The victory has already been won for us through the Finished Work of Christ: his death, his burial, and his resurrection in victory over sin, death, Hell, and the grave!

If you decide “NEVER AGAIN; that thing is OFF-LIMITS to me forever!”; and then follow through with that decision every day, then you truly can walk in victory over sin, just like Jesus has victory every instant over death.

I’m not saying that this is an easy thing! No sir. I understand the struggle! Amen. I’ve been there and done that.

I’m not saying that I am walking in sinless perfection! No! I wish that were true. Sinless perfection is not possible in this life, unfortunately.

However, with regard to the sins of pornography and other things, I thank God for his victory that I have been able to enjoy since I made that decision IN HIM and THROUGH HIM.

Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

The victory over sin can ONLY be attained “through Christ” and Him alone! Never think that you can stand alone against the world, the flesh, and the devil in your own strength, because you will certainly lose that battle! Amen.

All sin is shameful and leads to death

Romans 6:21: “What fruit then did you have in those things of which you are now ashamed? For the end of those things is death.”

All sin is shameful! And all sin will ultimately lead to your death, if it is not repented of and placed on Jesus Christ as your Savior!

Romans 6:22-23: “But now, being made free from sin and become servants to God, you have your fruit unto holiness, and the end Everlasting Life: for the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ our Lord.”

Conclusion

Friends, if you have been born again, you MUST get victory over sin in your life, especially pornography. Men are the ones who usually are troubled by this evil; but women can be also. Every time you look at it, you open a doorway for the devil to get into your life.

I also want to warn you, especially if you are in the ministry, that if you look at pornography on the internet or even go to a pornography store, you are being watched! The government (I believe that this applies almost anywhere) likely knows what you are doing. They are recording everything that you do on the internet.

Why would they care? For blackmail! Yes, if you are in a position of trust, such as pastor of a church, you are at risk of being blackmailed by people in power who know your activities; and they would not have a problem at all with using that information against you so that they can control you!

“We will tell the news media about your x-rated web surfing unless you do x, y, and z.”

You are very naive, if you think that no one knows about your sin! In the US, it is now public knowledge that the Federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies monitor ALL web surfing. They admitted it on TV the other day. I wouldn’t be surprised at all that this is true in your country as well.

And Google has admitted that their “private” browsing is all being recorded! Nothing is hidden from the government or from the internet providers.

Even more importantly, GOD is recording everything for his Judgment in his Books!

Revelation 20:12: “And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the Books were opened; and another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life; and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the Books, according to their works.”

So repent of those sins NOW, and get right with God, because if you don’t, you are setting yourself up for a fall! And it’s going to hurt.

God knows all about your sins! Amen. Someday, all of us will have to answer to the Lord Jesus Christ for EVERYTHING that we have ever said or done. Yes, if we are saved, then those sins are under the Blood of Jesus; however, our works will be judged; and if they do not honor the Lord, then they will be burned up like wood, hay, and stubble; and no reward will be given to a believer for works in your life that were not done in the Name of Jesus Christ.

How to be saved!

Are you truly born again? Make sure that you are, right now!

Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to atone for your sins? And that He was buried, and that Jesus rose up from the dead on the third day?

The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:

Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” (KSB)

If you are ready to be saved, then you can use the following prayer to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Comentarios: He reorganizado estos dos párrafos internamente desde el último estudio, porque me di cuenta de que la arreglo no era precisa. Los propósitos de estos estudios detallados son dos:

Lo opuesto “Ahora, si morimos con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él; sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de los muertos, ya no muere; la muerte ya no tiene dominio sobre él: porque en eso murió, él murió hasta el pecado una vez; pero en eso vive, él vive hasta Dios. De la misma manera, consideraos a ustedes mismos estar muerto de hecho al pecado, pero vivos hasta Dios través de Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro.

Lo opuesto “Por tanto, no dejéis que el pecado reine en vuestro cuerpo mortal, para que obedecéis las concupiscencias los deseos de la carne; ni sometáis tus partes del cuerpo como instrumentos de iniquidad al pecado; sino someted mismos hasta Dios, como los que están vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros como instrumentos de justicia hasta Dios. Porque el pecado no se enseñoreará de ustedes: porque no son bajos la Ley de Moisés, sino bajo la gracia”.

El complemento “¿Qué, pues? ¿Pecaremos porque no estamos bajo la Ley, sino bajo la gracia? ¡Ciertamente no! ¿No sabéis que a quienes os sometéis mismos como siervos para obedecer, ustedes sois sus siervos a quienes obedecéis: ya sea del pecado hasta muerte, o de la obediencia hasta justicia? Pero gracias hasta Dios, que ustedes erais los siervos del pecado; sino habéis obedecido desde corazón la forma de doctrina que os fue entregada. Siendo entonces hechos libres del pecado, ustedes se convirtieron en los siervos de la justicia.

El complemento “Hablo según la manera de los hombres, por causa de la debilidad de vuestra carne; porque como habéis sometido los miembros de tus cuerpos como siervos a la iniquidad hasta la iniquidad, aun así ahora someted los miembros de tus cuerpos como siervos a la justicia hasta la santidad: porque cuando erais los esclavos del pecado, fuisteis libres de la justicia.

Único “¿Qué fruto entonces teníais en aquellas cosas de las que ahora os avergonzáis? Porque el fin de esas cosas es la muerte. Pero ahora, siendo hecho libre desde el pecado y convertirse en siervos a Dios, tenéis vuestro fruto hasta la santidad, y el fin la Vida Eterna: porque la paga del pecado es muerte; pero el don de Dios es Vida Eterna a través de Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro”.

Comentarios: Tenga en cuenta que en el primer párrafo (Romanos 6:1-7), el párrafo es todo acerca del bautismo en agua. Pero en el segundo párrafo, se trata de entregar tu cuerpo y mente a Dios el Espíritu Santo en lugar del pecado.

§Único Introducción: Someted tus cuerpos en obediencia a Dios para tener la victoria sobre el pecado (6:1 - 23)

¶Lo opuesto Después de la salvación, someted tus cuerpos para ser bautizado por inmersión, para andar a la semejanza de su resurrección (6:1 - 7)

¶Lo opuesto Después del bautismo, someted tus cuerpos a Dios todos los días para tener una victoria continua sobre el pecado (6:8 - 23)

¡Observe cómo estos dos párrafos se oponen entre sí en sus temas! Después de la salvación, debemos ser bautizados por inmersión, para que podamos caminar a semejanza de su resurrección. ¡Así, ves la importancia del bautismo para un creyente en Jesucristo! Es el primer paso más importante de la obediencia; coloca al creyente en el camino de la obediencia a Dios y una vida de rectitud.

¡Y después del bautismo, debemos entregar nuestro cuerpo a Dios todos los días, para que podamos seguir triunfando sobre el pecado!

El tema común de estos dos párrafos es para someter; pero la gran diferencia entre ellos es cuando para someter:

Después de la salvación, sometiendo tu cuerpo para el bautismo es una vez para toda tu vida; ¡pero después del bautismo, someter tu cuerpo a Dios se repite todos los días por el resto de tu vida! De esta manera, los temas se oponen entre sí.

Observe las palabras resaltadas el segundo párrafo:

Dominio, reine, enseñoreará, sometéis, obedecido, los siervos.

Estas son las palabras clave que nos dicen de qué se trata este párrafo.

Solía usar el término “la vieja naturaleza pecaminosa” en esta parte de Romanos; pero creo que el Señor me mostró que eso no era correcto. El término bíblico es “hombre viejo”, no “naturaleza de pecado”, término que no aparece en el texto griego.

El “viejo hombre” es “el viejo tú/yo” que nació en este mundo, cuyo padre fue Adán, el primer pecador.

Romanos 6:6-7: “Sabiendo esto, que nuestro viejo fue crucificado con él, para que el cuerpo del pecado fuera destruido, que de ahora en adelante no debemos servir al pecado: porque el que está muerto ha sido libre del pecado”.

Efesios 4:17-24: “Por tanto, esto digo y testifico en el Señor; que ya no andéis como los otros gentiles, que andan en la vanidad de su mente, teniendo el entendimiento entenebrecido, ajenos a la vida de Dios por la ignorancia que en ellos hay, por la dureza de su corazón; los cuales habiendo perdido toda sensibilidad, se entregaron a la lascivia para con avidez cometer toda clase de impureza.

“Pero ustedes no habéis aprendido así a Cristo; si es que le habéis oído, y habéis sido por él enseñados de cómo la verdad está en Jesús. En cuanto a la pasada manera de vivir, quitad el hombre viejo, cual está viciado conforme a las concupiscencias engañosas. Y renovaos en el espíritu de vuestra mente, y vestíos del nuevo hombre, que es creado según Dios, en justicia y en santidad verdadera”.

La Biblia dice que fuimos crucificados con Cristo; es decir, Cristo pagó la pena de muerte por todos nuestros pecados en la cruz; Él hizo la Expiación perfecta por cada pecado que alguna vez existió y cada pecado que jamás existirá, en esas tres terribles horas en la cruz.

¡Y nosotros morimos con él en la cruz! Fuimos enterrados con Él y resucitamos con Él como Cabeza de toda la humanidad que se ha arrepentido y ha recibido a Jesucristo como su Salvador. Nuestra unidad con Cristo en su muerte, sepultura y resurrección ocurrió en la mente de Dios, quien conoce todas las cosas: pasadas, presentes y futuras.

Pero el poder de la resurrección en esta vida es sólo nuestro si primero recibimos a Cristo como nuestro Salvador y luego obedecemos el mandato de Jesús de ser bautizados en aguas profundas.

Romanos 6:5: “Porque si hemos sido plantados juntos en la semejanza de su muerte, también caminaremos en la semejanza de su resurrección”.

Pero si hemos recibido a Cristo como nuestro Salvador, pero no hemos obedecido el mandato de Cristo de ser bautizados, ¡siempre seremos espiritualmente débiles! Nunca creceremos en nuestra fe ni maduraremos para convertirnos en cristianos fuertes y piadosos que escuchen la Palabra de Dios y la cumplan.

Lucas 6:46-49: Jesús dijo, ““¿Y por qué me llamáis, ‘Señor, Señor’; pero no hacéis lo que yo digo?.

“Todo aquel que viene a mí, y oye mis palabras, y las hace, os mostraré a quién es semejante: él es como un hombre que edificó una casa, cavó profundamente y puso los cimientos sobre la roca de fondo; y cuando surgió la inundación, el río golpeaba contra aquella casa, pero no la pudo moverlo: porque estaba fundada sobre la roca de fondo.

“Pero él que oye y no los hace, es como un hombre que sin una fundación construyó una casa sobre la tierra; contra el cual la corriente latía con vehemencia, e inmediatamente cayó; y la ruina de esa casa fue grande”.

Romanos 6:8-10: “Ahora, si morimos con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él; sabiendo que Cristo, habiendo resucitado de los muertos, ya no muere; la muerte ya no tiene dominio sobre él: porque en eso murió, él murió hasta el pecado una vez; pero en eso vive, él vive hasta Dios”.

Entonces Pablo dijo debido Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos, nunca más morirá: la muerte no puede controlarlo nunca más; la muerte ya no tiene más “dominio” o “gobierno” sobre Él.

Romanos 6:11: “De la misma manera, consideraos a ustedes mismos estar muerto de hecho al pecado, pero vivos hasta Dios través de Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro”.

Y así, porque estamos “en Cristo”, tenemos el mismo poder para vivir victoriosamente sobre el pecado como lo hace Jesús, porque Jesús nunca pecó, y nunca pecará, ni podría pecar.

“De la misma manera, consideraos a ustedes mismos estar muerto de hecho al pecado”

En otras palabras, ¡simplemente rehúsa obedecer la tentación de pecar! “¡Estoy muerto al pecado! ¡Me niego a mirar eso, o querer eso, o robar eso, o decir esa mentira, etc.! ¡He decidido seguir a Jesús!” Amén.

Romans 6:12-14: “Por tanto, no dejéis que el pecado reine en vuestro cuerpo mortal, para que obedecéis las concupiscencias los deseos de la carne; ni sometáis tus partes del cuerpo como instrumentos de iniquidad al pecado; sino someted mismos hasta Dios, como los que están vivos de entre los muertos, y vuestros miembros como instrumentos de justicia hasta Dios. Porque el pecado no se enseñoreará de ustedes: porque no son bajos la Ley de Moisés, sino bajo la gracia”.

¡Este es un comportamiento que tenemos que aprender por experiencia!

Lucas 16:24: “Entonces Jesús dijo a sus discípulos, “Si alguno quiere venir en pos de mí, déjalo negarse a sí mismo, tome su cruz, y sígame”.

No resistimos la tentación de pecar por naturaleza; en otras palabras, era natural y normal que cometiéramos pecados antes de ser salvados. Obedecíamos los deseos de la carne, a menudo sin ninguna resistencia.

Es posible decir “No” a la carne como pecador; sin embargo, es sólo un trabajo de la mente; este tipo de negación se hace por pura determinación; y, en última instancia, fracasará.

Por ejemplo, a lo largo de la historia, muchos han tratado de vivir para Dios (como lo entendían, generalmente en error) como monjes o monjas, o célibes aislacionistas que vivían en una cueva o en algún lugar remoto, para tratar de aislarse completamente del mundo y toda tentación. Además, muchas de estas personas se han azotado con látigos y cadenas para tratar de dominar la tentación de pecar.

¡Pero esto nunca ha funcionado! La razón por la que fracasaron es porque dependían del poder de su propia determinación (la carne) para prevalecer sobre el pecado; ¡pero sus almas estaban muertas en delitos y pecados, porque no conocían a Jesucristo como su Salvador personal! Y cuando estés muerto en delitos y pecados, nunca tendrás victoria sobre el pecado, porque perteneces al diablo: ¡él es el máximo pecador y tú eres uno de sus hijos!

Efesios 2:1-3: “Y ustedes, siendo muerto en vuestro ofensas y pecados, en la que, en el pasado, ustedes caminabais según el curso de esta Era, según el príncipe de la potestad del aire, el espíritu que ahora obra en los hijos de la desobediencia; entre los cuales también todos tuvimos nuestra conducta en tiempos pasados en los deseos de nuestra carne; satisfaciendo los deseos de la carne y de la mente; y nosotros fuimos por naturaleza hijos de ira, como otros, incluso como otros”.

1 Juan 3:8-9: “El que peca continuamente es del diablo: porque el diablo peca desde el principio. El Hijo de Dios se manifestó para este propósito, que él podría destruir las obras del diablo. Cualquiera que es nacido de Dios no peca continuamente: porque su simiente permanece en él; y él no puede peca continuamente, porque él nació de Dios”.

Pero si realmente queremos decir “No” al pecado, debemos contar con la ayuda del Espíritu Santo para prevalecer sobre la tentación; y un pecador no tiene el Espíritu Santo para ayudarlo. Un cristiano nacido de nuevo puede decir “No” al pecado y a la tentación con el corazón fijo en Jesús, y podemos orar para que prevalezca el poder del Espíritu Santo. Un pecador no puede hacer eso.

¡La victoria sobre el pecado es posible con Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador! Amén.

Un testimonio personal

Permítanme compartir con ustedes un testimonio personal: ¡Antes de ser salvado en 1982, era adicto a la pornografía!También fui drogadicto, fumador de cigarrillos y alcohólico, entre muchos otros pecados.

Después de recibir a Jesucristo como mi Salvador personal en 1982, Dios me ayudó a dejar de fumar y beber, aunque me tomó varios meses de crecimiento espiritual superar esos pecados en mi vida.

¡Pero la pornografía es un veneno que no se deja de lado a la ligera! No señor. Una vez que empiezas a mirarlo, es un pecado que consume tu vida y te destruye desde dentro.

En realidad, la pornografía es una puerta de entrada a lo oculto, el mundo espiritual donde gobierna Satanás. Y hasta que no te arrepientas completamente de ese pecado y lo saques de tu vida permanentemente, te destruirá espiritualmente y nunca tendrás una verdadera victoria sobre el pecado.

También te conducirá a otros pecados y, finalmente, a tu propia destrucción. Los asesinos en serie han testificado que su adicción a la pornografía los llevó a la adicción a violar y asesinar personas, generalmente prostitutas; pero otros también.

Jacobo 1:13-15: “Deja que ningún hombre diga cuando es tentado, “Soy tentado por dios”: porque Dios no puede ser tentado por el mal; ni él tienta a nadie. Pero todo hombre es tentado, cuando es arrastrado por su propia lujuria, y seducido. Entonces cuando la lujuria ha concebido, ello da a luz el pecado; y el pecado, cuando es completamente crecido, engendra muerte”.

Después de varios años de luchar contra la adicción a la pornografía como cristiano, finalmente decidí que había terminado con esto, ¡de una vez por todas! Simplemente hice la decisión de que nunca volvería a mirar pornografía deliberadamente. Sí, puede que se me cruce por la vista, especialmente mientras navego por Internet; pero si eso sucediera, inmediatamente me arrepentiría de ese pecado y no continuaría con él.

Para mi propio asombro, el Señor Jesús ha honrado esa decisión y me ha ayudado en este asunto. Puedo decir sinceramente que no he mirado deliberadamente ninguna pornografía desde ese día; y cuando he visto algo que no debería haber visto, inmediatamente me arrepentí y me puse bien con Dios.

¡Ésta es la única manera de derrotar al diablo, amigos míos! Tienes que tomar una decisión de una vez por todas, de nunca volver a ese pecado. Estoy hablando de pornografía, pero este proceso de decisión funcionará para cualquier pecado en particular: fumar, beber, maldecir, mentir, robar, adulterio, fornicación: cualquier pecado.

Pablo expresó la decisión de esta manera: SOMETER:

Romanos 6:19-20: “Hablo según la manera de los hombres, por causa de la debilidad de vuestra carne; porque como habéis sometido los miembros de tus cuerpos como siervos a la iniquidad hasta la iniquidad, aun así ahora someted los miembros de tus cuerpos como siervos a

la justicia hasta la santidad: porque cuando erais los esclavos del pecado, fuisteis libres de la justicia”.

¡La batalla está en tu mente! La victoria ya ha sido obtenida para nosotros a través de la Obra Concluida de Cristo: ¡su muerte, su sepultura y su resurrección en victoria sobre el pecado, la muerte, el infierno y la tumba!

Si decides “NUNCA MÁS; ¡Esa cosa está PROHIBIDA para mí para siempre!”: y luego tú sigues hasta el final con esa decisión todos los días, entonces realmente podrás caminar en victoria sobre el pecado, así como Jesús tiene victoria en cada instante sobre la muerte.

¡No digo que esto sea algo fácil! No señor. ¡Entiendo la lucha! Amén. Estuve allí y lo hice.

¡No estoy diciendo que estoy caminando en perfección sin pecado! ¡No! Ojalá eso fuera cierto. Desafortunadamente, la perfección sin pecado no es posible en esta vida.

Sin embargo, con respecto a los pecados de la pornografía y otras cosas, Doy gracias a Dios por su victoria que he podido disfrutar desde que tomé esa decisión EN ÉL y A TRAVÉS DE ÉL.

Filipenses 4:13: “Puedo hacer todas las cosas a través de Cristo quien me fortalece”.

¡La victoria sobre el pecado SÓLO se puede lograr “a través de Cristo” y sólo Él! ¡Nunca pienses que puedes enfrentarte solo al mundo, la carne y el diablo con tus propias fuerzas, porque ciertamente perderás esa batalla! Amén.

Todo pecado es vergonzoso y lleva a la muerte

Romanos 6:21: “¿Qué fruto entonces teníais en aquellas cosas de las que ahora os avergonzáis? Porque el fin de esas cosas es la muerte”.

¡Todo pecado es vergonzoso! ¡Y todo pecado, en última instancia, te llevará a la muerte, si no es entregado a Jesucristo como tu Salvador!

Romanos 6:22-23: “Pero ahora, siendo hecho libre desde el pecado y convertirse en siervos a Dios, tenéis vuestro fruto hasta la santidad, y el fin la Vida Eterna: porque la paga del pecado es muerte; pero el don de Dios es Vida Eterna a través de Cristo Jesús Señor nuestro”.

Conclusión

Amigos, si han nacido de nuevo, DEBEN obtener la victoria sobre el pecado en sus vidas, especialmente la pornografía. Los hombres son los que suelen perturbarse por este mal; pero las mujeres también pueden serlo. Cada vez que lo miras, abres una puerta para que el diablo entre en tu vida.

También quiero advertirte, especialmente si estás en el ministerio, que si miras pornografía en Internet o incluso vas a una tienda de pornografía, ¡estás siendo observado! El gobierno (creo que esto se aplica a casi cualquier lugar) probablemente sepa lo que estás haciendo. Están grabando todo lo que haces en Internet.

¿Por qué les importaría? ¡Pare chantaje! Sí, si estás en un puesto de confianza, como pastor de una iglesia, corres el riesgo de ser chantajeado por personas con poder que conocen tus actividades; ¡Y no tendrían ningún problema en usar esa información en tu contra, para que ellos puedan controlarte!

“Le informaremos a los medios de comunicación sobre su navegación web con clasificación X, a menos que haga x, y & z.”

¡Eres muy ingenuo si crees que nadie sabe de tu pecado! En Estados Unidos, ahora es de conocimiento público que las agencias federales de inteligencia y de aplicación de la ley monitorean TODA la navegación web. Lo admitieron el otro día en la televisión. No me sorprendería en absoluto que esto también fuera cierto en su país.

¡Y Google ha admitido que toda su navegación “privada” está siendo registrada! Nada se oculta al gobierno ni a los proveedores de Internet.

Pero aún más importante, ¡DIOS está registrando todo para su Juicio en sus Libros!

La revelación 20:12: “Y vi a los muertos, grandes y pequeños, de pie ante Dios; y los libros fueron abiertos; y otro libro fue abierto, cual es el Libro de la Vida; y los muertos fueron juzgados fuera de esas cosas que estaban escritas en los libros, según sus obras”.

Así que arrepiéntete de esos pecados AHORA y ponte bien con Dios, porque si no lo haces, ¡te estás preparando para una caída! Y va a doler.

¡Dios sabe todo acerca de tus pecados! Amén. Algún día, todos tendremos que responder ante el Señor Jesucristo por TODO lo que hemos dicho o hecho.

Sí, si somos salvados, entonces esos pecados están bajos la Sangre de Jesús; sin embargo, nuestras obras serán juzgadas; y si no honran al Señor, serán quemados como leña, heno y hojarasca; y no se le dará recompensa a un creyente por obras en su vida que no fueron hechas en el Nombre de Jesucristo.

¡Cómo ser salvado!

¿Realmente has nacido de nuevo? ¡Asegúrate de estarlo ahora mismo!

¿Crees que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que nació de una virgen, vivió una vida sin pecado y murió en la cruz para expiar tus pecados? ¿Y que fue sepultado y que Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día?

La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:

Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.

Si estás listo para ser salvado, entonces puedes usar la siguiente oración para arrepentirte y recibir al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
