Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

This is the most helpful chapter in the entire Bible on the subject of daily sanctification of believers. This is the place where a born again Christian will find the best instruction on how to live victoriously over sin.

Unique “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we, who died to sin, live any longer in it?

Therefore, we were buried with him by baptism with reference to death, so that, in the same manner as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father: even so, we also should walk in newness of Life.

Comments: The theme of this paragraph is all about the meaning of water baptism.
What is the very first step for a believer after he has repented of his sin and put his faith for salvation in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross (Chapter 2.2 of Romans)? Water baptism (Chapter 2.3)!
Paul said this immediately after a detailed discussion of how to be saved (no mention of baptism):
Romans 6:1-2: “What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, so that grace may abound? Certainly not! How shall we, who died to sin, live any longer in it? Do you not know, that as many of us as were baptized with reference to Jesus Christ were baptized as a sign of his death?” (KSB)
So, if you have been born again, the first thing you should do after you have been saved is to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in water baptism. The best place to do that is at a strong, independent, Fundamental, Baptist church, because those types of churches understand the doctrine of baptism according to the Bible, and will follow it correctly. I can’t say that about evangelical, charismatic or Protestant churches, because most of them do not believe that the Bible is the Final Authority for all matters of faith and practice; and that is an error!
Romans 6:3-5: “Do you not know, that as many of us as were baptized with reference to Jesus Christ were baptized as a sign of his death? Therefore, we were buried with him by baptism into death, so that, in the same manner as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father: even so, we also should walk in newness of Life. For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall also walk in the likeness of his resurrection.” (KSB)
Comment: Now this text is the clearest statement on what water baptism is in the Bible:
1) We were baptized “with reference to Jesus Christ” as a sign of his death, burial, and resurrection. In other words, it is a re-enactment of the Finished Work of Christ on the cross, his burial and his resurrection by the new believer in Jesus Christ.
2) Baptism in water is an act of identification by the new believer in Jesus! You are proclaiming to the world with the act of baptism in water, “I am a follower of Jesus Christ who died, was buried, and rose again from the dead!”
3) Baptism in water is the most important act of obedience for a new believer in Jesus! Romans 6:3-5, Matthew 28:19, Mark 16:16.
4) Baptism in water has no power to wash away sins at all. It is not neccessary for salvation; but it is necessary for a believer to obey the Lord and have peace with Him and his will for their life.
5) “Baptism” by sprinkling or pouring water is NOT Baptism according to the Bible, because Sprinkling or pouring cannot be a sign of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Romans 6:3-5 clearly shows that baptism in deep water is the only mode that is Biblical.
Therefore, if you have been born again through repentance and faith in Christ, but your church sprinkled or poured water on you, then you have not yet obeyed the Lord Jesus Christ in this matter, and you have not been scripturally baptized.
You have sinned against the command of Jesus Christ, who commanded all believers to be baptized, which I have explained many times means that a person is completely dunked under the water or immersed. It does not mean and never means (in both secular and Biblical Greek) to sprinkle or to pour water. This is a fact of the Bible.
You will never have peace with God until you are scripturally baptized in deep water!
1 Samuel 15:22-23: “And Samuel said, “Does Jehovah have as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of Jehovah? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to listen is better than the fat of rams: for rebellion is like the sin of witchcraft; and stubbornness is like iniquity and idolatry.” (KSB)
The Greek word εις in Acts 2:38: the translation “for” is incorrect
Now we need to do a little study in the Greek text of Acts 2:38, so that we can understand what Paul was saying in Romans 6:3-5. Don’t worry, I will keep it simple.
Acts 2:38 and Romans 5:3 have a lot in common, and that is the Greek word “εις” (pronounced “ice”).
Acts 2:38 says in the King James Version translation (most Bible versions are very similar in this text):
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR [“eis”] the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
“For [the] remission of sins” = “εις αφεσιν αμαρτιων”
In this case, εις is a preposition.
The word “for” (as a preposition) has a specific meaning in the English language:
“preposition
with the object or purpose of: to run for exercise.
intended to belong to, or be used in connection with: equipment for the army; a closet for dishes.”
I would adjust this definition to make it more clear: “to obtain” or even “in exchange for”: “I work for money” or “I work in exchange for money” (is the thought).
With this adjustment, let’s reword the KJV translation of Acts 2:38 to make this crystal clear:
“Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ TO OBTAIN the remission of sins”.
Water cannot wash away your sins: only the Blood of Jesus can do that
Now we know from our studies in Hebrews and Romans that Paul (the leading teacher of Christian theology in the Bible) NEVER taught that salvation could be obtained by immersion (baptism) in water. Salvation can only be obtained by faith alone in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross, who died to atone for all of our sins, was buried, and rose again from the dead.
Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” (KSB)
Paul made no mention of water baptism in this text, did he? No! If water baptism was truly part of the Gospel, then Paul would have mentioned it here; but he did not.
Romans 4:2: “For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to glory in. But not before God: for what does the Scripture say? Abraham “believed in [Jehovah]; and his faith was credited to him for righteousness.” Now, to him that works, the reward is not reckoned of grace, but of debt. But to him that does not work, but believes on him that justifies the ungodly, his faith is credited for righteousness.” (KSB)
In Chapter 2.2 of Romans, and in all of the Letter to the Hebrews, where the topic of Salvation is discussed thoroughly, no mention of water baptism is made. Only after the discussion of salvation is complete, in Chapter 2.3 of Romans, Paul then talks about water baptism, for BELIEVERS.
As my old pastor used to say so colorfully but effectively:
“You could be baptized until the tadpoles know your social security number, and you would still go to Hell!” Amen.
I will not include the other citations in the previous studies to save time; but I cited these so that new readers could understand where I am coming from. But I have exhaustively proved in all the other studies that water cannot wash away sins under any circumstances.
The point here is that the KJV translation of Acts 2:38 to be baptized “for” (or “to obtain”) the forgiveness of sins is an error! I will come to Romans 6:3 in a moment.
εις can mean “with reference to” or “as a sign of”
The Greek word “εις” can be translated literally in a number of different ways in the Biblical Koine Greek: into, unto, in, or on/upon. (“With reference to” is another possible literal translation.) The way to correctly translate this word depends on the CONTEXT, not on the word itself.
I believe that “as a sign of” is also a possible translation, because “εις” carries specific theological concepts that are difficult to translate literally into other languages. “As a sign of” helps to smooth the translation and make the meaning clear.
So the correct translation of Acts 2:38 (found only in the Kingdom Study Bible version) is:
Acts 2:38: “Then Peter said to them, “Repent; and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ as a sign of the forgiveness of sins.” (KSB)
The baptism in water (symbolizing the Gospel of Jesus, his death, burial, and resurrection from the dead) is a sign of the forgiveness of your sins. Water cannot impart any forgiveness of sins whatsoever; only the precious Blood of Jesus Christ can do that! Amen.
This is also an accurate translation, but I still prefer “as a sign of”, because it is easier to understand:
Acts 2:38: “Then Peter said to them, “Repent; and be baptized every one of you in the Name of Jesus Christ with reference to the forgiveness of sins.”
Correct translation must take into account the usage of the original Greek word in its context within the entire Bible and the local context as well.
The first εις in Romans 6:3
Now, let’s examine Romans 6:3 with these thoughts in mind:
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” 1611 King James Version along with most other Bible versions in English.
“Do you not know, that as many of us as were baptized with reference to [“εις”] Jesus Christ were baptized as a sign of [“εις”] his death?” English Kingdom Study Bible
“η αγνοειτε οτι οσοι εβαπτισθημεν εις χριστον ιησουν εις τον θανατον αυτου εβαπτισθημεν” 1894 Scrivener Greek text
Is the water of baptism “Jesus”? Of course not! So we are not baptized INTO Jesus, because the water is not Jesus! So the KJV and most other translations are in error with “into”.
Colossians 2:12: “You were buried with him in water baptism; in which also you were raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead.” (KSB)
We were baptized WITH JESUS, not INTO JESUS: very important difference! The translation of “εις” by “into” is not correct in this text.
The act of water baptism is all about Jesus! It is “with reference to” Jesus! That is the meaning of “εις” here.
The second εις in Romans 6:3
The second instance of “εις” in Romans 6:3 requires a different rendering:
“[we] were baptized into his death” King James Version and most other Bible versions.
“[we] were baptized as a sign of [“εις”] his death” (KSB)
“With reference to” is a valid translation here also; however, I believe it is much more helpful to use an expanded translation for the sake of most Christians. I believe “as a sign of his death” is a better translation in this case.
Conclusion
Romans 6:5: “For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall also walk in the likeness of his resurrection.”
Comments: When we obey the commands of Christ, we are filled with his Spirit and with his joy!
I remember when I was baptized in late 1983 at my church. I was saved in August 1982; however, I was in the Navy, and my ship was going places every few months; and as it happened, I did not obey the command of Christ to be baptized in deep water for over a year for various reasons.
I remember many struggles with sin, and failures! I did not have the joy of the Lord in my life; although I knew that I was saved, and I was growing a little and learning the Bible.
But as I read the Bible, I realized that God wanted me to be baptized and begin to truly follow Jesus in my life, so I did. And after I was baptized, I was filled with his Spirit and with joy!
I began to “walk in the likeness of his resurrection”, with victory over sin (not always, but getting better over time) and much more peace and joy in my life. This is the blessed fruit of obedience to the command of Christ to be baptized: the fullness of the Holy Spirit!
If you are a born again Christian, but you have not been scripturally baptized in deep water since you repented of your sins and received Jesus Christ as your Savior, I urge you to do that as soon as possible! It is vital to the health and blessing of your new Life in Christ to be scripturally baptized.
Otherwise, you will never have the true blessing of the Lord in your life. That is a guarantee! Amen!
How to be saved!
Are you truly born again? Make sure that you are, right now!
Do you believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God who was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, and died on the cross to atone for your sins? And that He was buried, and that Jesus rose up from the dead on the third day?
The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:
Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.” (KSB)
If you are ready to be saved, then you can use the following prayer to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:
“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Comentarios: El tema de este párrafo tiene que ver con el significado del bautismo en agua.
¿Cuál es el primer paso por un creyente después de arrepentirse de su pecado y poner su fe para la salvación en la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz? (Capítulo 2.2 of Romans)? ¡Bautismo en agua! (Capítulo 2.3).
Pablo dijo esto inmediatamente después de una discusión detallada sobre cómo ser salvado (sin ninguna mención del bautismo en agua):
Romanos 6:1-2: “¿Qué diremos entonces? ¿Continuaremos en el pecado para que la gracia pueda abundar? ¡Ciertamente no! ¿Cómo podremos nosotros, que morimos al pecado, viviremos ya más en él? ¿No sabéis, que como muchos de nosotros que fuimos bautizados con referencia a Jesucristo, fuimos bautizados como señal de su muerte?”. Entonces, si tú has sido a nacer, lo primero que debes hacer después de haber sido salvo es seguir al Señor Jesucristo en el bautismo en agua. El mejor lugar para hacerlo es en una fuerte, fundamental, independiente iglesia bautista, porque ese tipo de iglesias entienden la doctrina del bautismo según la Biblia, y la seguirán correctamente. Ni puedo decir esa de las iglesias evangélicas, carismáticas o protestantes, porque la mayoría de ellos no cree que la Biblia sea la Autoridad Final para todos los asuntos de fe y práctica; y eso es un error!
Romanos 6:3-5: “¿No sabéis, que como muchos de nosotros que fuimos bautizados con referencia a Jesucristo, fuimos bautizados como señal de su muerte? Por lo tanto, fuimos sepultados con él por el bautismo con referencia a la muerte, de modo que, en la misma manera que Cristo resucitó de los muertos por la gloria del Padre: aún así, también deberíamos caminar en la novedad de la Vida. Porque si hemos sido plantados juntos en la semejanza de su muerte, también caminaremos en la semejanza de su resurrección”. (REB)
Comentario: Ahora bien, este texto es la declaración más clara sobre lo que es el bautismo en agua en la Biblia:
1) Fuimos bautizados “con referencia a Jesucristo” como señal de su muerte, sepultura y resurrección. En otras palabras, es una recreación de la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz, su sepultura y su resurrección por el nuevo creyente en Jesucristo.
2) ¡El bautismo en agua es un acto de identificación del nuevo creyente en Jesús! Estás proclamando al mundo con el acto del bautismo en agua, “¡Soy un seguidor de Jesucristo que murió, fue sepultado y resucitó de entre los muertos!”
3) ¡El bautismo en agua es el acto de obediencia más importante para un nuevo creyente en Jesús! Romanos 6:3-5, Mateo 28:19, Marcos 16:16.
4) El bautismo en agua no tiene ningún poder para lavar los pecados. (Link to Bible study). No es necesario para la salvación; pero es necesario que un creyente obedezca al Señor y tenga paz con Él y su voluntad para su vida.
5) “El Bautismo” por aspersión o derramamiento de agua NO es Bautismo según la Biblia, porque rociar o derramar no puede ser señal de la muerte, sepultura y resurrección de Cristo. Romanos 6:3-5 muestra claramente que el bautismo en aguas profundas es el único método bíblico.
Por tanto, si has nacido de nuevo mediante el arrepentimiento y la fe en Cristo, pero tu iglesia te roció o derramó agua, entonces todavía no has obedecido al Señor Jesucristo en este asunto y no has sido bautizado escrituralmente.
Habéis pecado contra el mandato de Jesucristo, quien mandó a todos los creyentes ser bautizados, lo cual he explicado muchas veces significa que una persona queda completamente sumergida bajo el agua o sumergida. No significa y nunca significa (tanto en griego secular como bíblico) rociar o verter agua. Éste es un hecho de la Biblia.
¡Nunca tendrás paz con Dios hasta que seas bautizado bíblicamente en agua profunda!
1 Samuel 15:22-23: “Y Samuel dijo, “¿Jehová tiene tanto deleite en los holocaustos y sacrificios, como en obedecer la voz de Jehová? He aquí, obedecer es mejor que los sacrificios, y escuchar es mejor que la grasa de los carneros: porque la rebelión es como el pecado de la brujería; y la terquedad es como la iniquidad y la idolatría”. (REB)
La palabra griega εις en Hechos 2:38: la traducción “para” es incorrecta
Ahora necesitamos hacer un pequeño estudio en el texto griego de Hechos 2:38, para que podamos entender lo que Pablo estaba diciendo en Romanos 6:3-5. No te preocupes, lo haré simple.
Hechos 2:38 y Romanos 5:3 tienen mucho en común, y esa es la palabra griega “εις” (pronunciada “ice”).
Hechos 2:38 dice en la traducción de la versión King James (la mayoría de las versiones de la Biblia son muy similares en este texto):
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ FOR [“εις”] the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
“For [the] remission of sins” = “εις αφεσιν αμαρτιων”
Reina-Valera 1960: “Arrepentíos, y bautícese cada uno de vosotros en el nombre de Jesucristo para [“εις”] perdón de los pecados; y recibiréis el don del Espíritu Santo”.
En este caso, εις es una preposición.
La palabra “for” (como preposición) tiene un significado específico en el idioma inglés:
“preposición
con el objeto o fin de: correr para hacer ejercicio.
destinado a pertenecer o ser utilizado en relación con: equipo para el ejército; un armario para platos.”
Ajustaría esta definición para que quede más clara: “obtener” o incluso “a cambio de”: “Yo trabajo para dinero” o “Yo trabajo a cambio de dinero” (es el pensamiento).
Con este ajuste, reformulemos la traducción KJV de Hechos 2:38 para que esto quede muy claro:
“Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ TO OBTAIN [“εις”] the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
Reina-Valera 1960: “Arrepentíos, y bautícese cada uno de vosotros en el nombre de Jesucristo PARA OBTENER [“εις”] perdón de los pecados; y recibiréis el don del Espíritu Santo”.
El agua no puede lavar tus pecados: sólo la Sangre de Jesús puede hacer eso
Ahora sabemos por nuestros estudios en Hebreos y Romanos que Pablo (el principal maestro de teología cristiano en la Biblia) NUNCA enseñó que la salvación se podía obtener por inmersión (bautismo) en agua. La salvación sólo se puede obtener únicamente por la fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz, quien murió para expiar todos nuestros pecados, fue sepultado y resucitó de entre los muertos.
Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque está escrito, “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”. (REB)
Pablo no mencionó el bautismo en agua en este texto, ¿verdad? ¡No! Si el bautismo en agua fuera realmente parte del Evangelio, entonces Pablo lo habría mencionado aquí; pero el no lo hizo.
Romanos 4:2-5: “Porque si Abraham fue justificado por las obras, tiene algo de lo que gloriarse. Pero no delante Dios: porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? Abraham ‘creyó en [Jehová]; y su fe fue acreditada a él por justicia’. Ahora bien, al que obra, la recompensa no se le cuenta de gracia, sino de deuda. Pero al que no trabaja, sino cree en Aquél que justifica al impío, su fe es acreditada por justicia”. (REB)
En el capítulo 2.2 de Romanos, y en toda la Carta a los Hebreos, donde se trata a fondo el tema de la Salvación, no se hace ninguna mención al bautismo en agua. Sólo después de que se completa la discusión sobre la salvación, en el Capítulo 2.3 de Romanos, Pablo habla del bautismo en agua, para los CREYENTES.
Como solía decir mi pastor viejo de manera tan colorida pero efectiva:
“¡Podrías ser bautizado hasta que los renacuajos sepan tu número de seguro social, y aun así irías al Infierno!” Amén.
No incluiré las otras citas de los estudios anteriores para ahorrar tiempo; pero los cité para que los nuevos lectores pudieran entender de dónde vengo. Pero en todos los demás estudios he demostrado exhaustivamente que el agua no puede lavar los pecados bajo ninguna circunstancia.
¡El punto aquí es que la traducción KJV de Hechos 2:38 de ser bautizado “para” (u “obtener”) el perdón de los pecados es un error! Llegaré a Romanos 6:3 en un momento.
εις puede significar “con referencia a” o “como signo de”
La palabra griega “εις” se puede traducir literalmente de varias maneras diferentes en el griego koiné bíblico: dentro, hacia, o sobre. (“Con referencia a” es otra posible traducción literal). La forma de traducir correctamente esta palabra depende del CONTEXTO, no en la palabra en sí.
Creo que “como signo de” también es una traducción posible, porque “εις” conlleva conceptos teológicos específicos que son difíciles de traducir literalmente a otros idiomas. “Como signo de” ayuda para alisa la traducción y aclarar el significado.
Entonces, la traducción correcta de Hechos 2:38 (que se encuentra solo en la versión de la Biblia de Estudio del Reino) es:
Hechos 2:38: “Entonces Pedro les dijo: “Arrepentíos; y sea bautizado cada uno de vosotros en el Nombre de Jesucristo como señal del perdón de los pecados”. (REB)
El bautismo en agua (que simboliza el Evangelio de Jesús, su muerte, sepultura y resurrección de entre los muertos) es un signo del perdón de tus pecados. El agua no puede impartir ningún perdón de pecados; ¡Sólo la preciosa Sangre de Jesucristo puede hacer eso! Amén.
Esta también es una traducción precisa, pero sigo prefiriendo “como signo de”, porque es más fácil de entender:
Hechos 2:38: “Entonces Pedro les dijo: “Arrepentíos; y sea bautizado cada uno de vosotros en el Nombre de Jesucristo con referencia al perdón de los pecados”.
La traducción correcta debe tener en cuenta el uso de la palabra griega original en su contexto dentro de toda la Biblia y también en el contexto local.
El primer εις en Romanos 6:3
Ahora, examinemos Romanos 6:3 con estos pensamientos en mente:
“Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?” Versión King James de 1611 junto con la mayoría de las otras versiones de la Biblia en inglés.
“¿O no sabéis que todos los que hemos sido bautizados en Cristo Jesús, hemos sido bautizados en su muerte?”. Reina-Valera 1960
“¿O no sabéis que todos los que hemos sido bautizados en Cristo Jesús, hemos sido bautizados en su muerte?”. Reina-Valera 1995
“¿No sabéis, que como muchos de nosotros que fuimos bautizados con referencia a Jesucristo, fuimos bautizados como señal de [“εις”] su muerte?” El Reino Estudio Biblia (REB)
“η αγνοειτε οτι οσοι εβαπτισθημεν εις χριστον ιησουν εις τον θανατον αυτου εβαπτισθημεν” 1894 Scrivener texto griego
¿Es el agua del bautismo “Jesús”? ¡Por supuesto que no! ¡Así que no somos bautizados EN Jesús, porque el agua no es Jesús! Así que la KJV y la mayoría de las otras traducciones tienen un error con “into” o “en”.
Colosenses 2:12: “Fuisteis fueron enterrados con él en el bautismo, en el cual también fueron resucitados con él, mediante vuestra fe en el poder de Dios que le levantó de los muertos”.
Fuimos bautizados CON JESÚS, no EN JESÚS: ¡diferencia muy importante! La traducción de “εις” por “en” no es correcta en este texto.
¡El acto del bautismo en agua tiene que ver con Jesús! ¡Es “con referencia a” Jesús! Eso es el significado de “εις” aquí.
El segundo εις en Romanos 6:3
La segunda instancia de “εις” en Romanos 6:3 requiere una traducción diferente:
“[we] were baptized into his death” King James Version y la mayoría de las otras versiones de la Biblia.
“hemos sido bautizados en su muerte”. Reina-Valera 1960, 1995
“fuimos bautizados como señal de su muerte”. El Reino Estudio Biblia (REB)
“Con referencia a” es una traducción válida aquí también; sin embargo, creo que es mucho más útil utilizar una traducción ampliada por el bien de la mayoría de los cristianos. Creo que “como señal de su muerte” es una mejor traducción en este caso.
Conclusión
Romanos 6:5: “Porque si hemos sido plantados juntos en la semejanza de su muerte, también caminaremos en la semejanza de su resurrección”.
Comentarios: ¡Cuando obedecemos los mandamientos de Cristo, somos llenos de su Espíritu y de su gozo!
Recuerdo cuando me bautizaron a finales de 1983 en mi iglesia. Fui salvo en agosto de 1982; sin embargo, yo estaba en la Marina y mi barco zarpaba cada pocos meses; y sucedió que no obedecí el mandato de Cristo de ser bautizado en aguas profundas durante más de un año por diversas razones.
¡Recuerdo muchas luchas con el pecado, y los fracasos! No tuve el gozo del Señor en mi vida; aunque sabía que era salvado, y estaba creciendo un poco y aprendiendo la Biblia.
Pero mientras leía la Biblia, me di cuenta de que Dios quería que yo fuera bautizado y comenzara a seguir verdaderamente a Jesús en mi vida, y así lo hice. ¡Y después de ser bautizado, yo estaba lleno con su Espíritu y con su alegría!
Comencé a “caminar a semejanza de su resurrección”, con victoria sobre el pecado (no siempre, pero mejorando con el tiempo) y con mucha más paz y alegría en mi vida. Este es el fruto bendito de la obediencia al mandato de Cristo de ser bautizado: ¡La plenitud del Espíritu Santo!
Si eres un cristiano nacido de nuevo, pero no has sido bautizado bíblicamente en aguas profundas desde que te arrepentiste de tus pecados y recibiste a Jesucristo como tu Salvador, ¡Le insto a que lo haga lo antes posible! Es vital para la salud y la bendición de su nueva vida en Cristo ser bautizado bíblicamente.
De lo contrario, nunca tendrás la verdadera bendición del Señor en tu vida. ¡Esa es una garantía! ¡Amén!
¡Cómo ser salvado!
¿Realmente has nacido de nuevo? ¡Asegúrate de estarlo ahora mismo!
¿Crees que Jesucristo es el Hijo de Dios que nació de una virgen, vivió una vida sin pecado y murió en la cruz para expiar tus pecados? ¿Y que fue sepultado y que Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día?
La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:
Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Si estás listo para ser salvado, entonces puedes usar la siguiente oración para arrepentirte y recibir al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:
“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
