Romans, Chapter 2.3: The daily sanctification of believers through the Holy Spirit (6:1 - 8:39)

§Unique Introduction: Yield your bodies in obedience to God to have victory over sin (6:1 - 23)

¶Opposite After salvation, yield your bodies to be baptized by immersion, to walk in the likeness of his resurrection (6:1 - 7)

¶Opposite After baptism, yield your bodies to God every day to have continued victory over sin (6:8 - 23)

§Complement Body: The Holy Spirit of God delivers the Believer from sin and guarantees his ultimate redemption (7:1 - 8:23)

Infant baptism is not Biblical; and water baptism cannot wash away sin

Comments: I need to emphasize some very important doctrines before we get into Chapter 2.3. The reason is very simple: the core doctrines of Salvation are where Satan sows the most confusion among believers! You can disagree about whether the Rapture is before or after the beginning of the Tribulation period, and no one will ever go to Hell because of what you believe about the Rapture! You can disagree about what the Bible teaches about the church, or the leadership of the church, and lots of other topics in the Bible; and no one will go to Hell over what they might believe about them.

But if you get the doctrine of Salvation wrong, you will definitely go to Hell when you die! Because this is how a sinner is transformed by the grace of God into a saint and receives Eternal Life; so we must understand what the Bible says on these things.

In fact, the doctrine of Salvation is what separates Bible believing (Fundamental) Baptists from all the other religious groups that call themselves Christian. A through study of the Letter to the Romans will help you to see what the Bible teaches on this subject.

In this study, I will demonstrate from the Bible that infant baptism is not Biblical; and that water baptism cannot wash away sin. This will prepare the ground for an in-depth study of Romans Chapter 2.3.

The progress of Romans from saving faith to mature faith proves that baptism comes after salvation and not before

Remember the key text of Romans:

Romans 1:17: “For in it, the righteousness of God is revealed from saving faith to mature faith: as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”

In Chapter 2.1, we studied why the human race rebelled against God and became idolaters, murderers, liars, thieves, adulterers, fornicators, coveteous, etc. And because of their sins, God must judge them according to their works:

Romans 1:21-23: “Because when they knew the one true God, they did not glorify him as God; neither were they thankful; but they became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened: professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man, and birds, and four-footed beasts, and creeping things.”

Romans 2:13-16: “Because the hearers of the Law are not just before God; but the doers of the Law shall be justified. For when the Gentiles (who do not have the Law), do by nature the things contained in the Law, these, having not the Law, are a Law unto themselves; who show the work of the Law written in their hearts (their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the meanwhile accusing or else excusing one another): in the Day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my Gospel.”

In Chapter 2.2, we studied how every human being is equally guilty before God because of the moral Law of Moses:

Romans 3:19-20: “And we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to them who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and all the world may become guilty before God; therefore, by the works of the Law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

And we learned how that God has provided a way of escape from his just Judgment for our sins through the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross:

Romans 3:21-26: “But now, the righteousness of God apart from the Law is revealed (being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets): even the righteousness of God which is through faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference, because all have sinned, and fallen short of the glory of God; being justified freely by his grace through the Redemption that is in Christ Jesus; whom God has displayed publicly, to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the passing over of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; to declare, I say, at this time his righteousness, so that God might be just, and the justifier of him who believes in Jesus.”

And we learned that as Abraham was justified by faith alone without the works of the Law or circumcision, so also we must be saved the same Way:

Romans 4:2-3: “For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to glory in. But not before God: for what does the Scripture say? Abraham “believed in [Jehovah]; and his faith was credited to him for righteousness.”

Romans 4:23-25: “Now, it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; but for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offenses, and was raised again for our justification.”

Now, we are in Romans Chapter 2.3, and as Romans 1:17 says, the Apostle Paul is walking us through the stages of the Christian Life, from saving faith to mature faith. We have just passed the stage of saving faith, and now we are learning the first principles of how to live the Christian Life! And what is the first topic that Paul writes about? Water Baptism!

Romans 6:3: “Do you not know, that as many of us as were baptized with reference to Jesus Christ were baptized as a sign of his death?”

The teaching of Jesus proves that baptism comes after salvation and not before

But wait! The Protestants and Catholics baptize newborn babies into their churches! How does that compare to the teaching of the Apostle Paul? It isn’t the same, is it? No!

Matthew 28:18-20: “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority was given to me in Heaven and upon earth. Therefore go, and train disciples out of all nations; baptizing them [the disciples] in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them [the disciples] to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”

The teaching of Paul agrees with the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ. The order of the Christian Life in Romans is salvation first, baptism afterwards!

Jesus said to baptize DISCIPLES. What is a disciple? It is a student of the Lord Jesus Christ; a learner, a follower of Jesus. Is it possible for an infant to be a disciple? Of course not; an infant doesn’t know anything except “Mama”; and cannot believe anything, especially the Gospel.

Mark 16:15-16: “And he said to them, “Go into all the world, and preach the Gospel to every creature; he that believes and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believes not shall be damned.”

Notice that Jesus did not say that not being baptized would cause you to be damned, but not believing; and He connected believing with baptism; and baptism came after the believing, which is what saves a sinner! So Jesus was saying that baptism in water after salvation is very important: not to go to Heaven, but as the first step of obedience after receiving Christ as Savior.

So Catholics and Protestants who baptize infants are guilty of creating their own religions instead of following the Word of God! What does God think about that?

Joshua 1:8: “This Book of the Law shall not depart out of your mouth; but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it: for only then shall you make your way prosperous, and only then shall you have good success.”

Psalm 119:105: “Your Word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.”

Revelation 22:18-19: “For I testify to every man that hears the words of the prophecy of this Book: if any man shall add to these things, God shall add to him the plagues that are written in this Book. And if any man shall take away from the words of the Book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the Book of Life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this Book.”

God never gave any authority to the Roman Catholic popes or anyone else to make up new doctrines and change the Bible! Infant baptism is against the Word of God!

Baptism of infants brings a curse on them, and not a blessing

I have spoken to many who were baptized as infants in either the Roman Catholic religion or protestant churches. In my experience, these people believed that they were going to go to Heaven because they were taught that water baptism as an infant had washed away their original sin. So even though most of them showed little or no evidence in their lives that they were believers in Jesus Christ, they believed that they were Christians.

But according to the Bible, they are deceived! Unless they repent of their sins and turn to the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross in faith, and receive Jesus as their personal Savior, they will certainly go to Hell. This is very sad!

And even worse, their baptism as a baby was like an innoculation or a vaccine against the Gospel, because they trust the false words of their church instead of the Gospel of Jesus in the Bible, which makes it more certain that they will go to Hell and not to Heaven!

When they hear the Gospel, they think,

“Oh I’ll probably go to Heaven, because I was baptized as a baby.”

But they comfort themselves with a false hope!

Infant baptism makes sinners feel more comfortable while they are going to Hell! So you see that infant baptism brings a curse on those who receive it, and not a blessing.

Dedication of infants to the Lord

In many Baptist churches, dedication of newborn children to Christ is practiced, in that the parents bring their baby to the front of the church and ask the pastor to pray for the baby and the parents in a public dedication ceremony. Is this okay?

There is no Scripture in the Bible giving an example of any Christian doing this in any church; however, this practice is not against the Scripture; and it does not lead anyone in ways that are contrary to the Scripture.

Ephesians 6:4: “And, you fathers, provoke not your children to wrath; but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.”

There are many practices in churches that are not written in the Bible. The question is: does a practice lead you toward the Bible and the Gospel or away from it? If it leads a sinner away from salvation through repentance and faith alone in the Finished Work of Christ, then it is not of God!

And if the dedication is done well, and the pastor makes it clear that the baby must learn the Gospel when they are old enough to understand it, and that the baby must repent of their sins and trust in Jesus to be saved, then this is a good thing, and not something that will bring a curse on the child in their future.

In all things, we must carefully consider the teachings of the Word of God and especially the doctrine of Salvation, to see whether we are bringing sinners to Jesus or whether we are condemning them to Hell with our blatant disregard of the Word of God, which cannot err. Amen.

Did Jesus teach salvation by water baptism?

First of all, the claim that Jesus taught something that his Apostles did not is false. This is how the cultists and false teachers attempt to bypass the Letters of the Apostles, where their bad doctrines are refuted.

The Apostle Paul taught only those things that the Lord Jesus Himself had taught him; therefore, the teaching of Paul was the teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ!

Galatians 1:11-12: “But I certify you, brethren, that the Gospel which was preached by me is not after man: for I neither received it from man; neither was I taught it. But I received it through the direct manifestation of Jesus Christ.”

Recall from a previous study that the Letters of the Apostles Paul, Peter, John, Jude, and James are the DETAILED TEACHINGS (or Doctrines) of the Christian Faith: the Lord Jesus Christ authorized them and appointed them to teach believers in Jesus Christ for all generations the doctrines of God that we need to learn and understand.

Matthew 28:18-20: “And Jesus came and spoke to them [i.e. the first church in Jerusalem; and by extension, this Great Commission of Jesus applies to all future churches], saying, “All authority was given to me in Heaven and upon earth. Therefore go, and train disciples out of all nations; baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. And, lo, I am with you always, even until the end of the Age.” Amen.”

Therefore, we must get our PRIMARY source of Christian doctrine from the authorized teachers of the Christian Faith in the Letters of Paul, Peter, John, James, and Jude: not from the Gospels, which are history books of the Life of Jesus Christ: they are not intended to be primary sources of Christian doctrine!

If, and only if, the Apostles did not teach about some subject, and the Gospels (including Acts) teach something about the same subject, then we can use the Gospels as a primary source of doctrine.

There are no texts in the writings of the Apostles that promote, infer, or explicitely teach infant baptism. Beware of false teachers who rely only on stories from the Gospels to support their teaching, but avoid the Letters of Paul and the other apostles! They are trying to deceive you! Amen.

John 3:5-6 does not teach water baptism at all

John 3:5-6: “Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a man is born of water and also of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

They go to John 3:5-6, and say,

“Look, see? Jesus taught that water baptism washes away sin! So if you want to be saved, you have to be baptized!”

But the context of this text is about being born again, not about water baptism!

Jesus made a comparison between the First Birth of a baby where the water bag is broken and the water comes out of the womb during the birth process; and He compared that with the New Birth of a soul through the Holy Spirit.

“unless a man is born of water and also of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.”

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Do you see how Jesus was making a comparison between our first birth and the New Birth?

“a man is born of water” = “that which is born of the flesh”

“also of the Spirit” = “that which is born of the Spirit is spirit”

In other words, a sinner must first be born into the human race, and then he must be born again to get into the Family of God by repentance and faith in the Finished Work of Christ!

If you want to go to Heaven, Jesus said that you must be born again! The first birth will not get you there! Amen.

So, there is not even one word about water baptism in this text! Amen. But this is how the false teachers take the Bible and twist it like a lemon to make their poison lemonade of infant baptism!

Does Acts 22:16 teach that water baptism washes away sin?

Acts 22:16: “And now why do you delay? Arise, and be baptized, and wash away your sins, having already called upon the Name of the Lord.’”

Let’s apply the same principles to this text as we did to John 3:5-6: the Book of Acts is a historical record of what was said and done from the Resurrection of Christ until Paul was taken as a prisoner to Rome. It is NOT a letter of Apostolic teaching!

Here are some points to think about:

1) Paul was recounting what Ananias said to him after he met the Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus. He was not saying that this was an official doctrine!

2) Ananias was not an Apostle; he was a disciple of Jesus without teaching authority from the Lord Jesus Christ.

3) No part of any of the Letters of Paul, Peter, John, James, or Jude imply or teach that water can wash away sin! Therefore, this quote of Ananias is not supported by any other part of the Bible, and cannot legitimately be used to teach that water baptism washes away sin.

4) If water baptism could wash away sin, shouldn’t the Apostle Paul have written a lot about this in his Letter to the Romans, where the entire subject of his letter is to explain how a sinner becomes a Christian? But Paul didn’t teach this at all, did he? I’ve shown that in my Bible studies on Romans again and again.

5) It could be argued that Ananias simply meant that “wash away your sins” was a metaphorical expression: that baptism was a picture of sins being washed away. The problem there is that there are no other texts of Scripture that speak of washing away sins!

So the best that can be said about Acts 22:16 is that Ananias had an active imagination about the meaning of Baptism! There is no Biblical support for water baptism washing away sin.

Does 1 Peter 3:18-22 teach that water baptism saves us?

1 Peter 3:18-22: “For Christ also has once for all time suffered for sins, the Just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God; having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive by the Spirit; in which also he went and preached to the spirits in prison; which at one time were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which few, that is, eight souls were delivered by water. Which in corresponding fashion baptism also now delivers us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ; who has gone into Heaven, and is on the right hand of God: angels and authorities and powers being made subject to him.”

Notice that Peter said

“Which in corresponding fashion baptism also now delivers us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God)”

Peter made it very clear that water baptism has nothing to do with the forgiveness of sins; but instead it was a matter of having a good conscience toward God! When a Pentecostal or Charismatic quotes this text, remind them that it was not about putting away the filth of the flesh (sins); but only about obeying the command of God to be baptized after salvation.

Infant baptism teaches a doctrine of salvation that is contrary to the clear teaching of Paul in Romans

If water can wash away sin, then the teaching of Paul in the Letter of Romans makes no sense at all!

In Romans, Paul taught that our faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross will result in Justification by God and forgiveness of all sins. In John 3:5-6, the Catholics and Protestants teach that our faith in the water of baptism will result in our salvation, or at least the removal of our “original sin”.

They recognize that if water baptism only removes “original sin” from Adam, then what about the sins that we have committed and that we will commit in the future before we die? This is a problem for them; and their answer is that we must do good works! And when we die, God will weigh our good works against our bad works: if our good works outweigh our bad works, then God will let us into Heaven. But if not, then God will send us to Hell.

In other words, the Catholics and liberal Protestants do not believe that salvation can be obtained before death. We must die first to find out if we will be saved afterward, according to them. They have rejected the clear teaching of the Apostle Paul on this subject.

But the Bible teaches the opposite! We must be saved NOW, on this side of the grave; not after death, because then it will be too late to be saved!

1 Corinthians 6:2b: “Behold, now is the accepted time! Behold, now is the day of salvation!”

John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have Everlasting Life [right now].”

Acts 2:46: “And continuing daily with one accord in the Temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and singleness of heart: praising God, and having favor with all the people; and each day the Lord added to the Assembly the ones being saved.”

Acts 2:21: “And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the Name of [Jehovah] shall be saved.”

John 10:9 Jesus said, “I am the Door: by me if any man enters in, he shall be saved; and shall go in and out, and find pasture.”

Acts 15:11: “But through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, we believe to be saved, even as they did.”

Acts 16:30-31: “And he brought them out, and said, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” And they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ; and you shall be saved, and your household.”

1 John 5:11-13: “And this is the record, that God has given to us Eternal Life, and this Life is in his Son. He that has the Son has Life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have Life. These things have I written to you that believe on the Name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have Eternal Life [right now], and that you may continue to believe on the Name of the Son of God.”

Conclusion

The Bible is full of evidence that the only way of salvation is repentance and faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross! Amen. You cannot believe in infant baptism also; they cannot coexist!

As a result of their false teaching about water baptism washing away original sin, millions and millions of poor sinners believe that because they were baptized as a baby or even as an adult, they are going to Heaven; but in reality, they are still going to Hell! SHAME ON THESE FALSE TEACHERS!

Please, never allow any church to baptize your infant children! And if they already have, you must teach them the Gospel of Jesus Christ and pray for them to understand the Gospel and trust in Jesus to be saved. Children have a wonderful ability to learn new things and believe in Jesus.

But you must do this while they are young! Once they become adults, their resistance to the Gospel becomes much stronger. Surveys have shown that most people who have received Christ as Savior were saved as children, and not as adults.

The best way to avoid the false teaching of infant baptism and to raise your children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord Jesus is to join and faithfully attend an independent, Fundamental, Bible-believing, Baptist church! When I say “Catholics”, I am also including the Orthodox churches (Russian and Greek) as well. Their doctrines are very similar.

Here is a statement from the internet, which I believe is accurate:

“Catholics, Orthodox, and most mainline Protestant groups assert baptism is a requirement for salvation and a sacrament, and speak of ‘baptismal regeneration’”.

This statement illustrates the fact that Baptists and conservative Evangelicals who practice baptism for believers only are the only groups who are following the Word of God, since I have proven that the baptism of infants is completely opposed to the Gospel of Jesus Christ that was preached by Christ and the Apostles and taught in the Word of God.

HOW TO BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE BEEN SAVED!

Are you truly born again? Make sure that you are, right now!

Do you believe that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sins? And that He was buried, and that Jesus rose up from the dead on the third day?

The Bible says that if we believe these things, we can be saved, if we repent of our sins and receive Jesus Christ as our personal Savior:

Romans 10:8-13: “But what does it say? “The Word is near you, even in your mouth, and in your heart”; that is to say, the Word of faith (which we preach), that if you shall confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus, and shall believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you shall be saved: for with the heart, man believes into righteousness; and with the mouth, confession is made into salvation: for the Scripture says, “Whosoever believes on him shall not be ashamed.” For there is no difference between the Jew and the Gentile: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him: for it is written, “whosoever shall call upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved.”

If you are ready to be saved, then you can use the following prayer to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

El bautismo infantil no es bíblico; y el bautismo en agua no puede lavar el pecado

Comentarios: Necesito enfatizar algunas doctrinas muy importantes antes de pasar al Capítulo 2.3. La razón es muy simple: ¡las doctrinas centrales de la Salvación son donde Satanás siembra la mayor confusión entre los creyentes! ¡Puedes estar en desacuerdo sobre si el Rapto será antes o después del comienzo del período de la Tribulación, y nadie irá jamás al Infierno debido a lo que tú crees sobre el Rapto! Puedes estar en desacuerdo sobre lo que la Biblia enseña sobre la iglesia, o el liderazgo de la iglesia, y muchos otros temas en la Biblia; y nadie irá al infierno sobre lo que podrían creer sobre ellos.

Pero si entiendes mal la doctrina de la Salvación, ¡definitivamente irás al Infierno cuando mueras! Porque así es como un pecador es transformado por la gracia de Dios en santo y recibe la Vida Eterna; así debemos entender lo que dice la Biblia sobre estas cosas.

De hecho, la doctrina de la Salvación es lo que separa a los bautistas (fundamentales) creyentes en la Biblia de todos los demás grupos religiosos que se llaman a sí mismos cristianos. Un estudio profundo de la Carta a los Romanos te ayudará a ver lo que la Biblia enseña sobre este tema.

En este estudio, demostraré desde la Biblia que el bautismo de niños no es bíblico; y que el bautismo en agua no lava el pecado. Esto preparará el terreno para un estudio en profundidad del capítulo 2.3 de Romanos.

El progreso de los romanos desde la fe salvadora hasta la fe madura prueba que el bautismo viene después de la salvación y no antes

Recuerde el texto clave de Romanos:

Romanos 1:17: “Porque en ella, la justicia de Dios se revela desde la fe salvadora a la fe madura, como está escrito, “El justo vivirá por la fe”.

En el Capítulo 2.1, estudiamos por qué la raza humana se rebeló contra Dios y se convirtió en idólatras, asesinos, mentirosos, ladrones, adúlteros, fornicarios, avaros, etc. Y a causa de sus pecados, Dios debe juzgarlos según sus obras:

Romanos 1:21-23: “Porque cuando conocieron al único Dios verdadero, no le glorificaron como a Dios; tampoco estaban agradecidos; sino que se hicieron vanos en sus razonamientos, y su necio corazón se oscureció: profesando a sí mismos ser sabios, se hicieron tontos, y cambiaron la gloria del Dios incorruptible en una imagen hecha como un hombre corruptible, y aves, y bestias de cuatro patas, y cosas que se arrastran”.

Romanos 2:13-16: “Porque los oyentes de la Ley no son justos ante Dios; sino los hacedores de la Ley serán justificados. Porque cuando los gentiles (quien no tienen la Ley), hacen por naturaleza las cosas contenidas en la Ley, éstos, no teniendo la Ley, son Ley hasta sí mismos; quien mostrar la obra de la Ley escrita en sus corazones (su conciencia también da testimonio, y sus pensamientos acusan o incluso defienden entre sí): en el Día cuando Dios juzgará los secretos de los hombres por Jesucristo, según mi Evangelio”.

En el Capítulo 2.2, estudiamos cómo todo ser humano es igualmente culpable ante Dios debido a la Ley moral de Moisés:

Romanos 3:19-20: “Y sabemos que cualquier cosa que dice la Ley, ello les dice a los que son bajos la Ley, para que cada boca puede estar cerrada, y todo el mundo puede llegar a ser culpable ante Dios; por tanto, por las obras de la Ley ninguna carne será justificada en su vista: porque por la Ley es el conocimiento del pecado”.

Y aprendimos cómo Dios ha provisto una manera de escapar de su justo juicio por nuestros pecados a través de la Obra terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz:

Romanos 3:21-26: “Pero ahora, la justicia de Dios aparte de la Ley se revela (siendo testificada por la Ley y los Profetas), aun la justicia de Dios cual es a través de la fe de Jesucristo hasta todos y sobre todos los que creen: porque no hay diferencia: porque todos han pecado, y se han quedado cortos de la gloria de Dios; siendo justificados gratuitamente por su gracia mediante la redención que es en Cristo Jesús; quien Dios ha exhibido públicamente, ser una propiciación a través de la fe en su sangre, declarar su justicia para la remisión de los pecados pasados, a través de la paciencia de Dios; para declarar, digo, en este tiempo su justicia; para que Dios sea justo, y el justificador de él quien cree en Jesús”.

Y aprendimos que así como Abraham fue justificado sólo por la fe sin las obras de la Ley ni la circuncisión, así también debemos ser salvados de la misma manera:

Romanos 4:2-3: “Porque si Abraham fue justificado por las obras, tiene algo de lo que gloriarse. Pero no delante Dios: porque ¿qué dice la Escritura? Abraham “creyó en [Jehová]; y su fe fue acreditada a él por justicia”.

Romanos 4:23-25: “Ahora, no fue escrito solo por su bien, que ello fue imputado a él; sino también por nosotros, a quienes será imputado, si creemos en el que resucito a Jesús nuestro Señor desde entre los muertos; quien fue entregado por nuestras transgresiones, y fue resucitado de nuevo para nuestra justificación”.

Ahora, estamos en Romanos Capítulo 2.3, y como dice Romanos 1:17, el apóstol Pablo nos está guiando a través de las etapas de la vida cristiana, desde la fe salvadora hasta la fe madura. ¡Acabamos de pasar la etapa de la fe salvadora y ahora estamos aprendiendo los primeros principios de cómo vivir la vida cristiana! ¿Y cuál es el primer tema sobre el que escribe Pablo? ¡Bautismo en agua!

Romanos 6:3: "¿No sabéis, que como muchos de nosotros que fuimos bautizados con referencia a Jesucristo, fuimos bautizados como señal de su muerte?".

La enseñanza de Jesús prueba que el bautismo viene después de la salvación y no antes

¡Pero espera! ¡Los protestantes y católicos bautizan a los recién nacidos en sus iglesias! ¿Cómo se compara eso con la enseñanza del apóstol Pablo? No es lo mismo ¿verdad? ¡No!

Mateo 28:18-20: “Y Jesús vino y les habló, diciendo, “Toda autoridad me ha sido dado en el Cielo y sobre la tierra. Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándoles [los discípulos] en el Nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles [los discípulos] observar todas las cosas que os he mandado”.

La enseñanza de Pablo concuerda con la enseñanza del Señor Jesucristo. ¡El orden de la vida cristiana en Romanos es primera la salvación, bautismo después!

Jesús dijo que bautizáramos a los DISCÍPULOS. ¿Qué es un discípulo? Es un alumno del Señor Jesucristo; un aprendiz, un seguidor de Jesús. ¿Es posible que un infante sea discípulo? Por supuesto que no; un bebé no sabe nada más que “mamá”; y no puede creer nada, especialmente el Evangelio.

Marcos 16:15-16: “Y les dijo, “Id a todo el mundo y predicad el Evangelio a toda criatura. Él que creyere y fuere bautizado, será salvado; pero él que no creyere, será condenado”.

Note que Jesús no dijo que no ser bautizado causaría que tú fueras condenado, pero no creer; y conectó el creer con el bautismo; y el bautismo vino después creyendo, ¡cual es lo que salva al pecador! Entonces Jesús estaba diciendo que el bautismo en agua después de la salvación es muy importante: no para ir al Cielo, sino como el primer paso de obediencia después de recibir a Cristo como Salvador.

Entonces los católicos y protestantes quien bautiza a los infantes son culpables de crear sus propias religiones en lugar de seguir la Palabra de Dios! ¿Qué piensa Dios sobre eso?

Josué 1:8: “Este Libro de la Ley nunca se apartará de tu boca; sino meditaréis en ella día y noche, para que observéis hacer conforme a todo lo que está escrito en ella: porque sólo entonces harás que tu camino sea próspero, y sólo entonces tendréis buen éxito”.

Salmo 119:105: “Tu Palabra es una lámpara para mis pies, y una luz para mi camino”.

La revelación 22:18-19: “Porque yo testifico a cualquiera que oye las palabras de la profecía de este Libro, si alguno añadiere a estas cosas, Dios añadirá sobre él las plagas que están escritas en este Libro. Y si alguno quitare de las palabras del Libro de esta profecía, Dios quitará su parte del Libro de la Vida, y de la santa ciudad, y de las cosas que están escritas en este Libro”.

¡Dios nunca dio ninguna autoridad a los papas católicos romanos ni a nadie más para inventar nuevas doctrinas y cambiar la Biblia! ¡El bautismo infantil va en contra de la Palabra de Dios!

El bautismo de los infantes trae sobre ellos una maldición y no una bendición

He hablado con muchos que fueron bautizados cuando eran infantes, ya sea en la religión católica romana o en iglesias protestantes. En mi experiencia, estas personas creían que iban a ir al cielo porque se les enseñó que el bautismo en agua cuando eran bebés había lavado su pecado original. Entonces, aunque la mayoría de ellos mostraron poca o ninguna evidencia en sus vidas de que eran creyentes en Jesucristo, creían que eran cristianos.

¡Pero según la Biblia, ellos son engañados! A menos que ellos se arrepientan de sus pecados y recurran con fe a la obra terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz, y reciban a Jesús como su Salvador personal, ciertamente irán al infierno. ¡Esto es muy triste!

Y peor aún, su bautismo de bebé fue como una inoculación o una vacuna contra el Evangelio, porque confían en las palabras falsas de su iglesia en lugar del Evangelio de Jesús en la Biblia, ¡lo que hace más seguro que irán al Infierno y no al Cielo! Cuando escuchan el Evangelio, piensan:

“Oh, probablemente iré al Cielo, porque fui bautizado cuando era un bebé”.

¡Pero se consuelan con una falsa esperanza!

¡El bautismo infantil hace que los pecadores se sientan más cómodos mientras ellos van al infierno! Así que ves que el bautismo de niños trae una maldición a quienes lo reciben, y no una bendición.

Dedicación de los infantes al Señor

En muchas iglesias bautistas se practica la dedicación de los niños recién nacidos a Cristo, en el que los padres llevan a su bebé al frente de la iglesia y le piden al pastor que ore por el bebé y los padres en una ceremonia pública de dedicación. ¿Esta bien?

No hay ninguna Escritura en la Biblia que dé un ejemplo de un cristiano haga esto en alguna iglesia; sin embargo, esta práctica no va en contra de las Escrituras; y no lleva a nadie en caminos que contrarios a las Escrituras.

Efesios 6:4: “Y ustedes padres, no provoquéis a ira a vuestros hijos; sino criadlos en disciplina y amonestación del Señor”.

Hay muchas prácticas en las iglesias que no están escritas en la Biblia. La pregunta es: ¿una práctica te acerca a la Biblia y al Evangelio o te aleja de ellos? Si ello aleja a un pecador de la salvación a través del arrepentimiento y la fe únicamente en la Obra terminada de Cristo, ¡entonces no es de Dios!

Y si la dedicación se hace bien y el pastor deja claro que el bebé debe aprender el Evangelio cuando tenga edad suficiente para entenderlo, y que el bebé debe arrepentirse de sus pecados y confiar en Jesús para ser salvado, entonces esto es algo bueno y no algo que traerá una maldición al niño en el futuro.

En todo, debemos considerar cuidadosamente las enseñanzas de la Palabra de Dios y especialmente la doctrina de la Salvación, para ver si estamos trayendo pecadores a Jesús o si los estamos condenando al infierno con nuestro flagrante desprecio de la Palabra de Dios, que no puede errar. Amén.

¿Enseño Jesús la salvación por el bautismo en agua?

En primer lugar, la afirmación que Jesús enseñó algo que sus apóstoles no enseñaron es falsa. Así es como los cultistas y falsos maestros intentan eludir las Cartas de los Apóstoles, donde se refutan sus malas doctrinas.

El apóstol Pablo enseñó sólo aquellas cosas que el mismo Señor Jesús le había enseñado; por lo tanto, ¡la enseñanza de Pablo era la enseñanza del Señor Jesucristo!

Gálatas 1:11-12: “Pero os certifico, hermanos, que el evangelio que fue predicado por mi, no es según hombre: porque yo ni lo recibí desde hombre, ni tampoco me fue enseñado, sino lo recibí a través de la manifestación directa de Jesucristo”.

Recuerde de un estudio anterior que las Cartas de los apóstoles Pablo, Pedro, Juan, Judas y Santiago son las ENSEÑANZAS (o Doctrinas) DETALLADAS de la fe cristiana: el Señor Jesucristo los autorizó y los nombró para enseñar a los creyentes en Jesucristo de todas las generaciones las doctrinas de Dios que necesitamos aprender y comprender.

Por lo tanto, debemos obtener nuestra fuente PRIMARIA de doctrina cristiana de los maestros autorizados de la fe cristiana en las Cartas de Pablo, Pedro, Juan, Santiago y Judas: no de los Evangelios, cual son libros de historia de la Vida de Jesucristo: ¡no están destinados ser fuentes primarias de doctrina cristiana!

Si, y sólo si, los Apóstoles no enseñaron sobre algún tema, y los Evangelios (incluido Hechos) enseñan algo sobre el mismo tema, entonces podremos usar los Evangelios como fuente primaria de doctrina.

Ni hay textos en los escritos de los Apóstoles que promuevan, infieran o enseñen explícitamente el bautismo infantil. ¡Cuidado con los falsos maestros que se basan únicamente en historias de los Evangelios para respaldar sus enseñanzas, pero eviten las Cartas de Pablo y los demás apóstoles! ¡Están tratando de engañarte! Amén.

Juan 3:5-6 no enseña el bautismo en agua en absoluto

Juan 3:5-6: “Respondió Jesús, “Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, te digo, que a menos que nazca un hombre de agua y también del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el Reino de Dios; lo que es nacido de la carne, es carne, y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, es espíritu”.

Van a Juan 3:5-6 y dicen:

“Mira, ¿ves? ¡Jesús enseñó que el bautismo en agua lava el pecado! ¡Así que si quieres ser salvado, tienes que ser bautizado!

¡Pero el contexto de este texto trata sobre nacer de nuevo, no sobre el bautismo en agua!

Jesús hizo una comparación entre el Primer Nacimiento de un bebé donde se rompe la bolsa de agua y el agua sale del útero durante el proceso de nacimiento; y comparó eso con el Nuevo Nacimiento de un alma a través del Espíritu Santo.

“a menos que nazca un hombre de agua y también del Espíritu”.

“lo que es nacido de la carne, es carne, y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, es espíritu”.

¿Ves cómo Jesús estaba haciendo una comparación entre nuestro primer nacimiento y el Nuevo Nacimiento?

“nazca un hombre de agua” = “lo que es nacido de la carne”

“también del Espíritu” = “lo que es nacido del Espíritu, es espíritu”

En otras palabras, ¡un pecador primero debe nacer en la raza humana y luego debe nacer de nuevo para entrar en la Familia de Dios mediante el arrepentimiento y la fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo!

Si quieres ir al Cielo, ¡Jesús dijo que debes nacer de nuevo! ¡El primer nacimiento no te llevará allí! Amén.

¡Así que no hay ni una palabra sobre el bautismo en agua en este texto! Amén. ¡Pero así es como los falsos maestros toman la Biblia y la tuercen como un limón para hacer su limonada venenosa del bautismo infantil!

¿Enseña Hechos 22:16 que el bautismo en agua lava el pecado?

Hechos 22:16: “Ahora, pues, ¿por qué te demoras? Levántate y sé bautizado; y lava fuera tus pecados, habiendo llamado ya sobre el Nombre del Señor’”.

Apliquemos a este texto los mismos principios que aplicamos a Juan 3:5-6: El Libro de los Hechos es un registro histórico de lo que se dijo y se hizo desde la Resurrección de Cristo hasta que Pablo fue llevado prisionero a Roma. ¡NO es una carta de enseñanza apostólica!

Aquí hay algunos puntos para pensar:

1) Pablo estaba contando lo que Ananías le dijo después de encontrarse con el Señor Jesús en el camino a Damasco. ¡Él no estaba diciendo que ésta fuera una doctrina oficial!

2) Ananías no fue un apóstol; él era un discípulo de Jesús sin autoridad de enseñanza del Señor Jesucristo.

3) ¡Ninguna parte de ninguna de las Cartas de Pablo, Pedro, Juan, Santiago o Judas implica o enseña que el agua puede lavar el pecado! Por lo tanto, esta cita de Ananías no está respaldada por ninguna otra parte de la Biblia y no puede usarse legítimamente para enseñar que el bautismo en agua lava el pecado.

4) Si el bautismo en agua podía lavar el pecado, ¿no debería el apóstol Pablo haber escrito mucho sobre esto en su Carta a los Romanos, donde todo el tema de su carta es explicar cómo un pecador se convierte en cristiano? Pero Pablo no enseñó esto en absoluto, ¿verdad? Lo he demostrado en mis estudios bíblicos sobre Romanos una y otra vez.

5) Se podría argumentar que Ananías simplemente quiso decir que “lava tus pecados” era una expresión metafórica: que el bautismo era una imagen de los pecados siendo lavados. ¡El problema es que no hay otros textos de las Escrituras que hablen de lavar los pecados!

¡Así que lo mejor que se puede decir acerca de Hechos 22:16 es que Ananías tenía una imaginación activa sobre el significado del bautismo! No hay apoyo bíblico para que el bautismo en agua lavando el pecado.

¿Enseña 1 Pedro 3:18-22 que el bautismo en agua nos salva?

1 Peter 3:18-22: “Porque también Cristo padeció por los pecados una vez para siempre, el Justo por los injustos, de modo que él podría traernos a Dios; habiendo sido muerto en la carne, pero vivificado por el Espíritu; en el cual también fue y predicó a los espíritus en prisión; que en uno tiempo fueron desobedientes, cuando una vez la longanimidad de Dios esperó en los días de Noé, mientras se preparaba el arca, en el cual pocas, es decir ocho almas, fueron libradas por el agua. Lo cual, de manera similar, el bautismo también ahora nos librado (no la eliminación de las inmundicias de la carne, sino la respuesta de una buena conciencia hacia Dios) por la resurrección de Jesucristo; quien ha subido al Cielo y está sobre la diestra de Dios: ángeles, autoridades y potestades siendo hecho sujeto a él.”

Note que Pedro dijo

“Lo cual, de manera similar, el bautismo también ahora nos librado (no la eliminación de las inmundicias de la carne, sino la respuesta de una buena conciencia hacia Dios)”

Pedro dejó muy claro que el bautismo en agua no tiene nada que ver con el perdón de los pecados; ¡sino que se trataba de tener una buena conciencia hacia Dios! Cuando un pentecostal o carismático cite este texto, recuérdale que no se trata de quitar las inmundicias de la carne (pecados); pero sólo sobre obedecer el mandato de Dios de ser bautizado después de la salvación.

El bautismo infantil enseña una doctrina de salvación que es contraria a la clara enseñanza de Pablo en Romanos

Si el agua puede lavar el pecado, ¡entonces la enseñanza de Pablo en la carta de los romanos no tiene sentido!

En Romanos, Pablo enseñó que nuestra fe en la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz resultará en la Justificación por Dios y el perdón de todos los pecados. En Juan 3:5-6, los católicos y protestantes enseñan que nuestra fe en el agua del bautismo resultará en nuestra salvación, o al menos en la eliminación de nuestro “pecado original”.

Reconocen que si el bautismo en agua sólo elimina el “pecado original” de Adán, entonces ¿qué pasa con los pecados que hemos cometido y que cometeremos en el futuro antes de morir? Esto es un problema para ellos; ¡Y su respuesta es que debemos hacer buenas obras! Y cuando muramos, Dios comparará nuestras buenas obras con nuestras malas obras: si nuestras buenas obras superan nuestras malas obras, entonces Dios nos permitirá entrar al Cielo. Pero si no, entonces Dios nos enviará al infierno.

En otras palabras, los católicos y los protestantes liberales no creen que se pueda obtener la salvación antes de la muerte. Según ellos, debemos morir primero para saber si después seremos salvados. Han rechazado la clara enseñanza del apóstol Pablo sobre este tema.

¡Pero la Biblia enseña lo contrario! Debemos ser salvados AHORA, de este lado de la tumba; ¡No después de la muerte, porque entonces será demasiado tarde para ser salvado!

1 Corintios 6:2b: “¡He aquí, ahora es el tiempo aceptado! ¡He aquí, ahora es el día de la salvación!”

Juan 3:16: “porque Dios amó tanto al mundo, que él dio a su Hijo unigénito, que cualquiera que cree en él no deberían perecer, sino tener Vida Eterna [ahora mismo].”

Hechos 2:46-47: “Y perseverando unánimes cada día en el Templo, y partiendo el pan en las casas, ellos comían juntos con alegría y sencillez de corazón: alabando a Dios, y teniendo favor con todo el pueblo. Y el Señor añadía cada día a la Asamblea los que estaban siendo salvados.

Hechos 2:21: “Y sucederá que todo aquel que invocare el Nombre de [Jehová] será salvado’”.

Juan 10:9: Jesús dijo, “Soy la Puerta; por mí si algún hombre entra en, él será salvado; y él entrará y saldrá, y hallará pastos.

Hechos 15:11: “Pero por la gracia del Señor Jesucristo, creemos para ser salvados, incluso como ellos lo hicieron”.

Hechos 16:30-31: “Y sacándolos, les dijo, “Señores, ¿qué debo hacer para ser salvado?”. Y dijeron, “Cree en el Señor Jesús Cristo, y serás salvado tú; y tu casa”.

1 Juan 5:11-13: “Y este es el registro, que Dios nos ha dado Vida Eterna, y esta Vida está en su Hijo. El que tiene al Hijo, tiene la Vida; y el que no tiene al Hijo de Dios, no tiene la Vida. Estas cosas os he escrito a ustedes que creéis en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis Vida Eterna, y para que sigáis creyendo en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios”.

Conclusión

¡La Biblia está llena de evidencia de que el único camino de salvación es el arrepentimiento y la fe en la Obra Concluida de Cristo en la cruz! Amén. No se puede creer al mismo tiempo en el bautismo de niños; ¡No pueden coexistir!

Como resultado de su falsa enseñanza acerca del bautismo en agua que lava el pecado original, millones y millones de pobres pecadores creen que por haber sido bautizados de bebé o incluso de adulto, van al Cielo; pero en realidad, ¡todavía van al infierno! ¡VERGÜENZA DE ESTOS FALSOS MAESTROS!

¡Por favor, nunca permita que ninguna iglesia bautice a tus niños infantes! Y si ya lo han hecho, debes enseñarles el Evangelio de Jesucristo y orar para que comprendan el Evangelio y confíen en Jesús para ser salvados. Los niños tienen una maravillosa habilidad para aprender cosas nuevas y creer en Jesús.

¡Pero tú debes hacer esto mientras ellos son jóvenes! Una vez que se hacen adultos, su resistencia al Evangelio se vuelve mucho más fuerte. Las encuestas han demostrado que la mayoría de las personas que han recibido a Cristo como Salvador fueron salvas cuando eran niños y no como adultos.

“Los católicos, los ortodoxos y la mayoría de los principales grupos protestantes afirman que el bautismo es un requisito para la salvación y un sacramento, y hablan de ‘regeneración bautismal’”.

Esta declaración ilustra el hecho de que los bautistas y los evangélicos conservadores que practican el bautismo sólo para creyentes son los únicos grupos que siguen la Palabra de Dios, ya que lo he demostrado que el bautismo de niños es completamente opuesto al Evangelio de Jesucristo que fue predicado por Cristo y los Apóstoles y enseñado en la Palabra de Dios.

¡CÓMO ESTAR SEGURO DE QUE HAS SIDO SALVADO!

¿Realmente has nacido de nuevo? ¡Asegúrate de estarlo ahora mismo!

¿Crees que Jesucristo murió en la cruz por tus pecados? ¿Y que fue sepultado y que Jesús resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día?

La Biblia dice que si creemos estas cosas, podemos ser salvados, si nos arrepentimos de nuestros pecados y recibimos a Jesucristo como nuestro Salvador personal:

Romanos 10:8-13: “Pero ¿qué dice? “La Palabra está cerca de ti, incluso en tu boca y en tu corazón”, es decir, la Palabra de fe (que predicamos), que si confesarás con tu boca al Señor Jesús, y creerás en tu corazón que Dios le levantó de los muertos, tú serás salvado: porque con el corazón, el hombre cree para justicia, y con la boca, la confesión se hace para la salvación: porque la Escritura dice, “cualquiera que en él creyere, no será avergonzado”. Porque no hay diferencia entre el judio y el gentil: porque el mismo Señor sobre todo es rico a todos los que le invocan: porque [está escrito], “Cualquiera que llamará sobre el Nombre del Señor será salvado”.

Si estás listo para ser salvado, entonces puedes usar la siguiente oración para arrepentirte y recibir al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal:

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra USTED. ¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
