Comments: We move our study of Romans to Chapter 2.2; but first, we need to look at the larger picture of Romans to understand where we have been and where we are going.

Book 5.1 (Hebrews & Romans): The Way into a New Covenant Relationship with Jehovah God

Complement Part 1 (Hebrews): For believing Jews under the Old Covenant during the first century (1:1 - 13:25)

Opposite Chapter 1.1: God the Son came to Earth to become a man to complete the work of Salvation on the cross (1:1 - 4:13)

Opposite Chapter 1.2: God the Son returned into Heaven to be our Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (4:14 - 7:28)

Complement Chapter 1.3: Look back to the Finished Work of Christ on the cross for your spiritual completion (8:1 - 10:31)

Complement Chapter 1.4: The Old Covenant saints looked forward with saving faith to their Messiah under the New Covenant (10:32 -11:40)

Unique Chapter 1.5: Obey the will of Jehovah God to become a completed Jew in Jesus Christ your Messiah (12:1 -13:25)

Complement Part 2 (Romans): For all Jews and Gentiles from the first century forward (1:1 - 16:27)

Opposite Chapter 2.1: Both Jews and Gentiles have rejected the one true God and will be judged by the Old Covenant Law of Moses (1:1 - 2:16)

Opposite Chapter 2.2: Both Jews and Gentiles can only be justified through faith alone in the New Covenant Finished Work of Christ (2:17 - 5:21)

Complement Chapter 2.3: The indwelling Holy Spirit will deliver Believers from the power of sin if they walk in obedience to Him (6:1 - 8:39)

Complement Chapter 2.4: The Election of God will save a remnant of Israel in spite of their unbelief in the New Covenant Gospel of Christ (9:1 - 11:36)

Unique Chapter 2.5: The New Covenant Gospel of Christ calls us to serve God in every part of our lives (12:1 - 16:27)

Comments: First, notice that Hebrews and Romans have the exact same Golden Ratio design on the chapter level of the outline: two opposites, two complements, and one unique, with reference to the themes of each chapter, and how they relate to one another.

The first two chapters of Romans oppose each other in their themes.

In Chapter 2.1, Paul explains the origin of idolatry and how that led to the worst sorts of sin and wickedness in the human race; and also how God would inevitably judge all of these sins according to their works and according to the moral Law of Moses.

In Chapter 2.2, Paul explains that God has provided a remedy, an Atonement for all sins in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross (3:9-31). And then Paul explains exactly how a person can be justified from all their sins by showing how Abraham was justified by faith alone without works (4:1-8); and that he was justified by faith alone before he was circumcised (4:9-15), proving that circumcision cannot save anyone (similar to water baptism). And so, if we exercise the same faith in Christ that Abraham exercised in Jehovah, then we will also be justified from all sins because our faith in Christ will be credited to us for righteousness.

Thus, the themes of Chapters 2.1 and 2.2 are opposed to each other: why humanity is lost without God, and how they may be saved! Also, these two chapters have something very important in common, which is the sinner.

Opposite Chapter 2.1: Both Jews and Gentiles have rejected the one true God and will be judged by the Old Covenant Law of Moses (1:1 - 2:16)

Opposite Chapter 2.2: Both Jews and Gentiles can only be justified through faith alone in the New Covenant Finished Work of Christ (2:17 - 5:21)

In Chapter 2.3, Paul moves on from the topic of Salvation from sin to the topic of how believers in Christ can be delivered from the power of sin; and the short answer is that if we walk in obedience to the Holy Spirit, we will have power over the world, the flesh, and the devil.

In Chapter 2.4, Paul moves on to the topic of Election, and how that God will save a remnant of Israel in spite of their unbelief in the Gospel of Christ.

In Chapter 2.5, Paul moves on to discuss a collection of issues that plague all believers, especially young believers: should we obey the human authorities (police, courts, government)? How should mature believers react when a young believer is offended because we drink coffee, or eat meat (and other such things)?

Thus, the themes of Chapters 2.3 and 2.4 complement each other; and the theme of Chapter 2.5 is unique in this group of five chapters. This second group has the Golden Ratio design of two complements and one unique; and they are closely related to each other, because their themes are all about the believer in Christ, not the sinner, which is the focus of the first two chapters.

Complement Chapter 2.3: The indwelling Holy Spirit will deliver Believers from the power of sin if they walk in obedience to Him (6:1 - 8:39)

Complement Chapter 2.4: The Election of God will save a remnant of Israel in spite of their unbelief in the New Covenant Gospel of Christ (9:1 - 11:36)

Unique Chapter 2.5: The New Covenant Gospel of Christ calls us to serve God in every part of our lives (12:1 - 16:27)

In this case, the reason they are closely related is that the focus is all about the believer in Christ (I will change the themes to make them simpler):

Complement Chapter 2.3: How a believer in Christ can have power over sin in their life (6:1 - 8:39)

Complement Chapter 2.4: Why did most of Israel reject the Gospel of Jesus Christ? (9:1 - 11:36)

Unique Chapter 2.5: How should believers in Christ relate to each other in the Assembly (the local church)? (12:1 - 16:27)

The more complicated themes are required in order to compress the complete content of each text division into a single sentence, which is not easy, but very useful.

That was a VERY brief synopsis of the Letter to the Romans; and it illustrates how the Golden Ratio design of the Bible rightly divides the Word of God into appropriate groups (called “chapters”) that make sense according to the actual content of the text. It gets even more interesting when we delve into the lower levels of each chapter and see how the Golden Ratio design is built into every part of the Bible. Only God can do something like that! Amen.

Romans, Chapter 2.2: Both Jews and Gentiles can only be justified through faith alone in the New Covenant Finished Work of Christ (2:17 - 5:21)

§Complement Introduction: Even the most religious person possible is condemned by the Law of Moses (2:17 - 3:8)

¶Opposite God is always righteous in everything that He does, including judging sin (3:1 - 8)

§Complement Body: Justification from sin is by faith alone in the Finished Work of Christ without the works of the Law or circumcision (3:9 - 5:8)

¶Unique Both Jews and Gentiles can be justified by the same God through their faith in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ (3:9 - 31)

¶Complement Abraham was justified by faith alone without works (4:1 - 8)

¶Complement Abraham was justified by faith alone before he was circumcised (4:9 - 15)

¶Opposite The faith that Abraham exercised to be justified is the same faith that we must exercise to be justified from all sin (4:16 - 25)

¶Opposite The object of our faith must be Jesus Christ who died in our place and made the atonement for our sins (5:1 - 8)

§Unique Conclusion: The origin of sin and the impact of the Finished Work of Christ on the cross for all those who believe (5:9 - 21)

¶Complement The sin of Adam caused the deaths of him and all of his descendants (5:9 - 14)

¶Complement The gift of salvation through Christ gives righteousness and eternal life to all who believe in Him (5:15 - 21)

Comments: Now, let’s take a closer look at the Introduction section.

§Complement Introduction: Even the most religious person possible is condemned by the Law of Moses (2:17 - 3:8)

¶Opposite The proud Jew’s profession of faith in God is destroyed by his breaking of the Law of Moses (2:17 - 29)

Unique Behold, you are called a Jew, and rest in the Law of Moses, and make your boast of God; and you know his will, and approve the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the Law. And you are confident that you yourself are a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, an instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which have the form of knowledge and of the truth in the Law.

Complement You therefore who teaches another, do you not teach yourself? You that preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You that say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You that abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? You that make your boast of the Law, through breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? For “the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you”, as it is written.

Complement Because circumcision truly benefits, if you keep the Law; but if you are a breaker of the Law, your circumcision is effectively made uncircumcision.

Opposite Therefore, if the uncircumcision keeps the righteousness of the Law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfills the Law, judge you, who by the letter and circumcision transgress the Law?

Opposite For he is not a true Jew, which is merely one outwardly; neither is that true circumcision, which is outward in the flesh; but he is a true Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

Comments: In the Introduction, Paul takes a close look at the special case of “the extremely religious Jew”, e.g. a Pharisee, which is what Paul was in his previous life as Saul of Tarsus. So Paul understands the Pharisee extremely well!

When Saul of Tarsus was a young man, the Old Covenant was still in force; and the Pharisee was probably considered the epitome of what it meant to be a man of God by most Jews. There were other sects as well; but the Pharisees were probably the most influential in Israel, and they were held in very high esteem.

But the Pharisees had lost sight of the main purpose of the Law, to point sinners to Jehovah their God and the sacrifices that God had commanded to be offered for the atonement and forgiveness of their sins. Instead, they were very focused on obedience to every letter of the Law of Moses; and this obedience to the Law was their means of pleasing God!

Their religion of faith in Jehovah through the blood had become an evil man-made religion of works, rather than a holy religion of faith that followed the Scriptures. So the Pharisees were very self-righteous.

Luke 18:9-14: “And he spoke this parable to some who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others: “Two men went up into the Temple to pray: one a Pharisee, and the other a tax collector. The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, ‘God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are: extortionists, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector. I fast twice in the week; I give tithes of all that I possess.’ And the tax collector, standing far away, would not lift up so much as his eyes to Heaven; but he smote upon his breast, saying, ‘God be merciful to me a sinner.’ I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for everyone that exalts himself shall be humbled; and he that humbles himself shall be exalted.”

One of the major points that Paul makes in this chapter is that salvation is by faith alone, and not by works.

Romans 2:11-13: “For there is no respect of persons with God: for as many as have sinned without the Law shall also perish without the Law; and as many as have sinned in the Law shall be judged by the Law. Because the hearers of the Law are not just before God; but the doers of the Law shall be justified.”

If a person wants to be justified by works, then according to Paul, “the doers of the Law shall be justified”. What does this mean? It means that if you can keep the Law 100% without sinning your entire life (!!), then you would be able to enter Heaven based on your own righteousness. But the problem that faces every one of us, without exception, is that we sin every single day, don’t we? Yes, we do; even the best of us:

Micah 7:4: “The best of them is like a brier; the most upright is sharper than a hedge thorn.”

Psalm 90:7-10: “For we are consumed by your anger, and by your wrath are we troubled. You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your countenance: for all our days are passed away in your wrath; we spend our years like a momentary thought. The days of our years are seventy; and if by reason of strength they are eighty years, yet is their strength labor and sorrow: for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.”

So the problem with trying to be perfect (like the Pharisee) is that you and I are not perfect, no matter how hard we try to be! And this is what Paul highlights here:

Complement Because circumcision truly benefits, if you keep the Law; but if you are a breaker of the Law, your circumcision is effectively made uncircumcision.

How many of you have “tasted” a grape or a fruit at the supermarket without paying for it? You have just robbed the owner of the market! You are a thief!

How many of you have told a lie at your job or to your friends or family or somewhere else? You say, “It was only a little white lie.” No, it was a lie! There is no such thing as a “little white lie.”

Here is what will happen to the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and witches, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS:

Revelation 21:8: “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and fornicators, and witches, and idolaters, and ALL LIARS, shall have their part in the Lake burning with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Have you been looking at pornography? Do you look at the opposite sex (outside of marriage) with lust? Jesus said,

Matthew 5:27-28: “You heard that it was said to them of old, ‘Do not commit adultery’; but I say to you, that whosoever looks on a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart.”

You see, the standard of God is 100% perfection!! Not a single shade of “grey” is allowed in the sight of a thrice-holy God!

James 2:10-11: “For whosoever shall keep the whole Law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all. For he that said, “Do not commit adultery,” said also, “Do not kill.” Therefore, if you do not commit adultery, but you also kill, you have become a transgressor of the entire Law.”

Romans 2:21-24: “You therefore who teaches another, do you not teach yourself? You that preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? You that say a man should not commit adultery, do you commit adultery? You that abhor idols, do you commit sacrilege? You that make your boast of the Law, through breaking the Law, do you dishonor God? For “the Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you”, as it is written.”

So Paul was highlighting this fact that James also pointed out in his letter: 100% perfect obedience to the Law of Moses is required from birth until death, or you will go to Hell for the slightest infraction! Therefore, it is impossible for anyone to be justified before God by keeping the Ten Commandments, because everyone breaks the Law of God sooner or later. Every one of us is guilty before God, with no exceptions!

Romans 3:19-20: “And we know that whatsoever things the Law says, it says to them who are under the Law, so that every mouth may be shut, and all the world may become guilty before God; therefore, by the works of the Law, no flesh shall be justified in his sight: for by the Law is the knowledge of sin.”

How about you? If you are trying to keep the Law to go to Heaven, you will not make it! That is the point! Sadly, there are literally billions of people on Earth who are doing this!

For example, the Muslim is told by his Imams to be a good Muslim; keep the teachings of “Allah” in the Quran, be a good neighbor, help your fellow man, and do good; and maybe (just maybe) “Allah” will be pleased to allow you into Heaven when you die; but if you do some great work for “Allah”, such as become a martyr in his “holy war” (or Jihad) against “the unbelievers” (anyone who is not a Muslim), then (supposedly) you will be rewarded with 72 virgins, especially if you kill lots of unbelievers! This theology is worse than wicked; it is perverse and demonic. But no Muslim can possibly know whether he will go to Heaven or not! He is kept in ignorance of his eternal destination until he finally dies; and then he discovers that he is in Hell!

This is true, because Islam is a religion of works; it is not a religion of faith, because muslims are trying to enter Heaven by doing works of some kind. Also, their faith is not in the only One who can save them, the Lord Jesus Christ. They will never go to Heaven without Christ as their God and Savior! Amen.

John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, “I am the [exclusive] Way, the [exclusive] Truth, and the [exclusive] Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.”

There are many false Christians in the same situation as the Muslim: they are told by their liberal pastor to be a good person, help the old ladies across the street, do unto others and you would have them do unto you; and God will “probably” allow you into Heaven; but only if your good works exceeds your bad works! These kind of false Christians can be found in almost every kind of church: liberal, conservative, fundamentalist, Amish, and others.

You might think that a person who attends a Fundamental, Bible believing church would certainly go to Heaven when they die, but this is not the case! I read a suprising quote from a pastor who said that he thought that most people in the churches he pastored were not saved, even though they professed that they were! The reason for this is the deceitfulness of sin and the depravity of the human heart.

Jeremiah 17:9: “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked. Who can know it?”

Many people want to go to Heaven, and they want to be known as a good person, so they join a church and say all the right things; they sound like a real Christian, and they even know the Bible well, and were baptized; but they were never born again through repentance and faith in the Finished Work of Christ! It is all “religion” to them. They are nothing but empty suits and dresses! So they are no different than the Muslim, the Catholic, the Hindu, etc; and they will all go to the same Hell without Christ! Very sad.

Hindus, Buddhists, Bahais, Shintos, and others are in a similar situation: Their teachings include to be a good person, do good works, and MAYBE you will go to “Heaven” (as they define it). But they will never make it to Heaven by doing good works!

Why? Because they rejected the only Way to Heaven, which is the Lord Jesus Christ.

John 14:6: “Jesus says to him, “I am the [exclusive] Way, the [exclusive] Truth, and the [exclusive] Life: no man comes to the Father, except through me.”

John 8:23-24: “And he said to them, “You are from beneath; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins: for if you do not believe that I AM [Jehovah], you shall die in your sins.”

Jesus said: “Truly, truly, I say to you, he that enters not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” John 10:1

Jesus said: “I AM THE DOOR: by me if any man enters in, he shall be saved; and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief does not come, but for to steal, to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they might have Life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:9-10

Jesus said that most people will go to Hell, and not to Heaven, for all the reasons that I just explained:

Jesus said: “Enter in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and many there are who go in there. For confined is the gate and narrow is the Way which leads to Eternal Life, and few there are that find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

God will never allow anyone into Heaven who tries to climb up there by some other way than Jesus Christ. You are a thief and a robber in the eyes of God if you try to do that!

The world of religion is divided into two groups:

1) Salvation by doing works: Hindus, Buddhists, Bahais, Shintos, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, false Christians, and other religions of all kinds: all of these people are trying to earn their way into Heaven by some other method than faith in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross! They cannot know that they will be in Heaven when they die, but they are doing their best to please God and make Him happy with their works, because their religion or their church is teaching them to do this. This is NOT the Bible Way to Heaven!

2) Salvation by grace through faith alone in the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross: These people know that they are a sinner; they heard or read the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that He is God who came to Earth through the virgin Mary; He lived a sinless, perfect life for 33 years; He allowed Himself to be crucified on a cross for the sins of all mankind, so that if we believe in Him, we can have Eternal Life through his atoning sacrifice; He was buried for 3 days, and arose from the dead on the third day, victorious over sin, death, Hell, and the grave!

So then if they acknowledge to God that they are a sinner in need of the Savior Jesus Christ, and if they believe that his Atonement on the cross will save them, and if they call on his Name to save them and receive Jesus as their personal Savior, then THEY WILL BE SAVED ETERNALLY! Hallelujah! Amen.

Christ is the answer of God to the Law of Moses!

Galatians 3:13-14: “Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, having become a curse for us: for it is written, “Cursed is everyone that hangs on a tree”, that the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.”

Romans 10:4: “for Christ is the fulfillment of the Law for righteousness to every one that believes in him.”

Galatians 3:24: “Therefore the Law was our tutor [to point us] to Christ, that we might be justified by faith [in Him].”

Salvation through the Finished Work of Christ on the cross provides ETERNAL SECURITY and peace with God! Amen.

I John 5:13: “These things have I written to you that believe on the Name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have Eternal Life, and that you may continue to believe on the Name of the Son of God.”

No other religion except the Bible Way can provide peace with God and the perfect knowledge that I AM SAVED, AND I KNOW THAT I AM GOING TO HEAVEN BECAUSE OF MY FAITH IN THE FINISHED WORK OF CHRIST!

Romans 5:1-2: “Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ; by whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in assurance of the glory of God.”

So your choice is either believe in the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, or go to Hell when you die; there is no other option before the one true God, because He is our Creator and He made the rules on how to be saved. I’m just a messenger; amen!

Here is how you can be saved, AND KNOW THAT YOU ARE SAVED, right now. If you believe the Gospel as I have just explained it, and you are ready to receive Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, use this prayer as a pattern for your own:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

Único Capítulo 2.5: El Nuevo Pacto Evangelio de Cristo nos llama a servir a Dios en cada parte de nuestras vidas (12:1 - 16:27)

Comentarios: Primero, observe que Hebreos y Romanos tienen exactamente el mismo diseño de Proporción Áurea en el nivel de capítulo del esquema: dos opuestos, dos complementarios y uno único, con referencia a los temas de cada capítulo y cómo se relacionan entre sí.

Los dos primeros capítulos de Romanos se oponen entre sí en sus temas.

En el Capítulo 2.1, Pablo explica el origen de la idolatría y cómo eso condujo a los peores tipos de pecado y maldad en la raza humana; y también cómo Dios inevitablemente juzgaría todos estos pecados según sus obras y según la Ley moral de Moisés.

En el Capítulo 2.2, Pablo explica que Dios ha proporcionado un remedio, una expiación por todos los pecados en la Obra terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz (3:9-31).

Y luego Pablo explica exactamente cómo una persona puede ser justificada de todos sus pecados al mostrar cómo Abraham fue justificado solo por la fe sin obras (4:1-8); y que fue justificado sólo por la fe antes de ser circuncidado (4:9-15), lo que demuestra que la circuncisión no puede salvar a nadie (similar al bautismo en agua). Y así, si ejercitamos la misma fe en Cristo que Abraham ejerció en Jehová, entonces también seremos justificados de todos los pecados porque nuestra fe en Cristo nos será acreditada por justicia.

Así, los temas de los Capítulos 2.1 y 2.2 se oponen entre sí: ¡por qué la humanidad está perdida sin Dios y cómo ellos pueden salvarse! Además, estos dos capítulos tienen algo muy importante en común, que es el pecador.

Lo opuesto Capítulo 2.1: Ambos judíos y gentiles han rechazado el único verdadero Dios y serán juzgados por la antigua Pacto Ley de Moisés (1:1 - 2:16)

Lo opuesto Capítulo 2.2: Ambos judíos y gentiles sólo puede justificarse a través de la fe sola en la obra terminada de Cristo (2:17 - 5:21)

En el Capítulo 2.3, Pablo pasa del tema de la Salvación del pecado al tema de cómo los creyentes en Cristo pueden ser liberados del poder del pecado; y la respuesta corta es que si caminamos en obediencia al Espíritu Santo, tendremos poder sobre el mundo, la carne y el diablo.

En el Capítulo 2.4, Pablo pasa al tema de la Elección y cómo Dios salvará a un remanente de Israel a pesar de su incredulidad en el Evangelio de Cristo.

En el capítulo 2.5, Pablo pasa a discutir una serie de problemas que afectan a todos los creyentes, especialmente a los creyentes jóvenes: ¿Debemos obedecer a las autoridades humanas (policía, tribunales, gobierno)? ¿Cómo deberían reaccionar los creyentes maduros cuando un creyente joven se ofende porque tomamos café o comemos carne (y otras cosas similares)?

Así, los temas de los Capítulos 2.3 y 2.4 se complementan entre sí; y el tema del Capítulo 2.5 es único en este grupo de cinco capítulos. This second group has the Golden Ratio design of two complements and one unique; and they are closely related to each other, because their themes are all about the believer in Christ, not the sinner, which is the focus of the first two chapters.

El complemento Capítulo 2.3: El Espíritu Santo entregará creyentes desde el poder del pecado si caminan en obediencia a Él (6:1 - 8:39)

En este caso, la razón por la que están estrechamente relacionados es que el enfoque es todo acerca del creyente en Cristo (cambiaré los temas para hacerlos más simples):

Los temas más complicados son necesarios para comprimir el contenido completo de cada división del texto en una sola frase, lo cual no es fácil, pero muy útil.

Esa fue una sinopsis MUY breve de la Carta a los Romanos; e ilustra cómo el diseño de la Proporción Áurea de la Biblia divide correctamente la Palabra de Dios en grupos apropiados (llamados “capítulos”) que tienen sentido según el contenido real del texto. Se vuelve aún más interesante cuando profundizamos en los niveles inferiores de cada capítulo y vemos cómo el diseño de la Proporción Áurea está integrado en cada parte de la Biblia. ¡Sólo Dios puede hacer algo así! Amén.

Romanos, Capítulo 2.2: Ambos judíos y gentiles sólo puede justificarse a través de la fe sola en la obra terminada de Cristo (2:17 - 5:21)

Comentarios: Ahora, echemos un vistazo más de cerca de a la sección de Introducción.

Único He aquí, usted eres llamado un judío, y descansas en la Ley de Moisés, y jactas de Dios, y usted conoces su voluntad, y apruebas las cosas que son más excelentes, siendo instruido desde la Ley; y usted estás seguro de que usted mismo eres un guía de ciegos, una luz de ellos que están en la oscuridad, una instructor de los ignorantes, una maestro de niños, que tienen la forma del conocimiento y de la verdad en la Ley.

El complemento Usted, por tanto, que enseñas a otro, ¿no te enseñas a ti mismo? Usted que predicas que el hombre no debe robar, ¿robas? Usted que dices que un hombre no debe cometer adulterio, ¿cometes adulterio? Usted que aborreces los ídolos, ¿cometes sacrilegio? Usted que haces tu jactas de la Ley, al quebrantar la Ley, ¿deshonras a Dios? Porque “el Nombre de Dios es blasfemado entre los gentiles por causa de ustedes”, como está escrito.

El complemento Porque la circuncisión verdaderamente beneficia, si guardas la Ley; pero si eres transgresor de la Ley, tu circuncisión efectivamente se hace incircuncisión.

Lo opuesto Por tanto, si la incircuncisión guarda la justicia de la Ley, ¿no la incircuncisión de él se contará para circuncisión? Y si la incircuncisión (que es por naturaleza) cumple la Ley, ¿ello no lo juzgará a usted, quien por la letra y la circuncisión quebrantas la Ley?

Lo opuesto Porque él no es un verdadero judío, quien es meramente uno exteriormente; ni es la verdadera circuncisión, cual es exterior en la carne; sino él es un verdadero judío, quien es uno interiormente; y la circuncisión es la del corazón, en espíritu, y no en letra; cuya alabanza no es de los hombres, sino de Dios.

Comentarios: En la Introducción, Pablo analiza de cerca del caso especial del “judío extremadamente religioso”, p. un fariseo, que es lo que fue Pablo en su vida anterior como Saulo de Tarso. ¡Así que Pablo entiende extremadamente bien al fariseo!

Cuando Saulo de Tarso era joven, aún estaba vigente el Antiguo Pacto; y la mayoría de los judíos probablemente consideraban al fariseo como el epítome de lo que significaba ser un hombre de Dios. También había otras sectas; pero los fariseos eran probablemente los más influyentes en Israel y se los tenía en muy alta estima.

Pero los fariseos habían perdido de vista el propósito principal de la Ley: señalar a los pecadores a Jehová su Dios y los sacrificios que Dios había mandado ofrecer para la expiación y el perdón de sus pecados. En cambio, estaban muy concentrados en la obediencia a cada letra de la Ley de Moisés; ¡y esta obediencia a la Ley era su medio para agradar a Dios!

Su religión de fe en Jehová a través de la sangre se había convertido en una religión malvada de obras hecha por el hombre, en lugar de una religión santa de fe que seguía las Escrituras. Entonces los fariseos eran muy santurrón.

Lucas 18:9-14: “Y dijo esta parábola a unos quien confiaban en sí mismos que eran justos, y despreciaron a otros: “Dos hombres subieron al templo para orar: uno un fariseo, y el otro, un recaudador de impuestos. El fariseo, de pie, rezó esto consigo mismo, ‘Dios, te doy gracias que no soy como lo son otros hombres: extorsionadores, injustos, adúlteros, o incluso como este recaudador de impuestos; ayuno dos veces a la semana; doy diezmos de todo lo que poseo’. Y el recaudador de impuestos, de pie muy lejos, no levantaría tanto como sus ojos al Cielo, sino él se estaba golpeando el pecho, diciendo, ‘Dios, sé propicio a mí, un pecador’. Os digo, que este hombre descendió a su casa justificado en lugar de la otra: porque cualquiera que se enaltece, será humillado; y el que se humilla, será enaltecido”.

Uno de los puntos principales que Pablo señala en este capítulo es que la salvación es sólo por fe y no por obras.

Romanos 2:11-13: “Porque no hay acepción de personas con Dios: porque todos los que han pecado sin la Ley, también perecerán sin la Ley; y todos los que han pecado en la Ley, será juzgado por la Ley. Porque los oyentes de la Ley no son justos ante Dios; sino los hacedores de la Ley serán justificados”.

Si una persona quiere ser justificada por las obras, entonces, según Pablo, “los hacedores de la ley serán justificados”. ¿Qué quiere decir esto? Significa que si puedes guardar la Ley al 100% sin pecar en toda tu vida (!!), entonces podrás entrar al Cielo basándose en tu propia justicia. Pero el problema al que nos enfrentamos todos, sin excepción, es que pecamos todos los días, ¿no es así? Sí lo hacemos, incluso el mejor de nosotros.

Miqueas 7:4: “El mejor de ellos es como la zarza; el más recto es más agudo que la espina de un seto”.

Salmo 90:7-10: “Porque estamos consumidos por tu ira; y por tu ira estamos turbados. Pusiste nuestras iniquidades delante de ti, nuestros pecados secretos a la luz de tu rostro: porque todos nuestros días son pasados lejos en tu ira; Pasamos nuestros años como un pensamiento momentáneo. Los días de nuestros años son setenta; y si a causa de la fuerza tienen ochenta años, sin embargo su fuerza es trabajo y tristeza: porque pronto se les corta, y volamos”.

Entonces, el problema de tratar de ser perfecto (como el fariseo) es que tú y yo no somos perfectos, ¡no importa cuánto intentemos serlo! Y esto es lo que Pablo destaca aquí:

El complemento Porque la circuncisión verdaderamente beneficia, si guardas la Ley; pero si eres transgresor de la Ley, tu circuncisión efectivamente se hace incircuncisión.

¿Cuántos de ustedes habéis “probado” una uva o una fruta en el supermercado sin pagar por ella? ¡Acabáis de robar al dueño del mercado! ¡Eres un ladrón!

¿Cuántos de ustedes han dicho una mentira en su trabajo, a sus amigos, familiares o en algún otro lugar? Dices: “Fue sólo una pequeña mentira piadosa”. ¡No, era mentira! No existe tal cosa como una “pequeña mentira piadosa”.

Esto es lo que les sucederá a los temerosos, a los incrédulos, a los abominables, a los asesinos, a los fornicarios, a las brujas, a los idólatras y a TODOS LOS MENTIROSOS:

La revelación 21:8: “Pero los temerosos, a los incrédulos, a los abominables, a los asesinos, a los fornicarios, a las brujas, a los idólatras y a TODOS LOS MENTIROSOS, tendrán su parte en el lago ardiendo con fuego y azufre, que es la muerte segunda”.

¿Has estado mirando pornografía? ¿Miras el sexo opuesto (fuera del matrimonio) con lujuria? Jesús dijo,

Mateo 5:27-28: “Oísteis que se les dijo en la antigüedad: “No cometas adulterio”; pero yo os digo que cualquiera que mira a una mujer para codiciarla, ya adulteró con ella en su corazón”.

Verás, ¡¡el estándar de Dios es 100% perfección!! ¡No se permite ni un solo tono de “gris” ante los ojos de un Dios tres veces santo!

Jacobo 2:10-11: “Porque cualquiera que guarde toda la Ley, y aún ofende en un punto, es culpable de todo: porque él que dijo, “No cometas adulterio”, también dijo, “No mates”. Por lo tanto, si no cometes adulterio, sino que también matas, te has convertido en transgresor de toda la Ley.

Romanos 2:21-24: “Usted, por tanto, que enseñas a otro, ¿no te enseñas a ti mismo? Usted que predicas que el hombre no debe robar, ¿robas? Usted que dices que un hombre no debe cometer adulterio, ¿cometes adulterio? Usted que aborreces los ídolos, ¿cometes sacrilegio? Usted que haces tu jactas de la Ley, al quebrantar la Ley, ¿deshonras a Dios? Porque “el Nombre de Dios es blasfemado entre los gentiles por causa de ustedes”, como está escrito”.

Entonces Pablo estaba resaltando este hecho que Jacobo también señaló en su carta: se requiere una obediencia 100% perfecta a la Ley de Moisés desde el nacimiento hasta la muerte, ¡o irás al infierno por la más mínima infracción! Por lo tanto, es imposible que alguien sea justificado ante Dios guardando los Diez Mandamientos, porque todos, tarde o temprano, quebrantan la Ley de Dios. ¡Cada uno de nosotros es culpable ante Dios, sin excepción!

Romanos 3:19-20: “Y sabemos que cualquier cosa que dice la Ley, ello les dice a los que son bajos la Ley, para que cada boca puede estar cerrada, y todo el mundo puede llegar a ser culpable ante Dios; por tanto, por las obras de la Ley ninguna carne será justificada en su vista: porque por la Ley es el conocimiento del pecado”.

¿Y tú? Si estás tratando de guardar la Ley para ir al Cielo, ¡no lo lograrás! ¡Ese es el punto! Lamentablemente, ¡hay literalmente miles de millones de personas en la Tierra que están haciendo esto!

Por ejemplo, los imanes le dicen al musulmán ser un buen musulmán, guarda las enseñanzas de “Allah” en el Corán, sé un buen vecino, ayuda a tu prójimo y haz el bien; y tal vez (sólo tal vez) “Alá” se complazca en permitirte entrar al Cielo cuando mueras; pero si haces algún gran trabajo para “Alá”, como convertirte en mártir en su “guerra santa” (o Jihad) contra “los incrédulos” (cualquiera que no sea musulmán), entonces (supuestamente) serás recompensado con 72 vírgenes, ¡especialmente si matas a muchos incrédulos! Esta teología es peor que perversa; es perverso y demoniaco. ¡Pero ningún musulmán puede saber si irá al cielo o no! Se le mantiene en la ignorancia de su destino eterno hasta que finalmente muere; ¡Y luego descubre que está en el infierno!

Esto es cierto, porque el Islam es una religión de obras; No es una religión de fe, porque los musulmanes intentan entrar al cielo haciendo obras de algún tipo. Además, su fe no está en el único que puede salvarlos, el Señor Jesucristo. ¡Ellos nunca irán al Cielo sin Cristo como su Dios y Salvador! Amén.

Juan 14:6: “Jesús le dice: “Yo soy el Camino [exclusivo], la Verdad [exclusiva] y la Vida [exclusiva]: nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí”.

Hay muchos falsos cristianos en la misma situación que los musulmanes: Su pastor liberal les dice que sean una buena persona, que ayuden a las ancianas a cruzar la calle, hacer con los demás como usted querrá que ellos lo hagan con usted; y Dios “probablemente” te permitirá entrar al Cielo; ¡pero sólo si tus buenas obras superan tus malas obras! Este tipo de falsos cristianos se pueden encontrar en casi todo tipo de iglesia: liberal, conservadora, fundamentalista, amish y otras.

Se podría pensar que una persona que asiste a una iglesia fundamentalista que cree a la Biblia ciertamente irá al cielo cuando muera, ¡pero este no es el caso! Leí una cita sorprendente de un pastor que dijo que pensaba que la mayoría de las personas en la iglesia que él pastoreaba no eran salvados, ¡aunque profesaban que eran! La razón de esto es el engaño del pecado y la depravación del corazón humano.

Jeremías 17:9: “El corazón es engañoso sobre todas las cosas, y desesperadamente malvado. ¿Quién lo puede saber?”.

Mucha gente quiere ir al Cielo y quiere ser conocida como una buena persona, por eso se une a una iglesia y dice todas las cosas correctas; suenan como verdaderos cristianos, e incluso conocen bien la Biblia y fueron bautizados; ¡pero nunca nacieron de nuevo mediante el arrepentimiento y la fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo! Para ellos todo es “religión”. ¡No son más que trajes y vestidos vacíos! Así que no son diferentes de los musulmanes, los católicos, los hindúes, los mormones, los testigos de Jehová etc.; ¡Y todos irán al mismo Infierno sin Cristo! Muy triste.

Los hindúes, budistas, bahais, sintoístas y otros se encuentran en una situación similar: Sus enseñanzas incluyen ser una buena persona, hacer buenas obras y QUIZÁS vayas al “Cielo” (como ellos lo definen). ¡Pero nunca llegarán al Cielo haciendo buenas obras!

¿Por qué? Porque rechazaron el único Camino al Cielo, quien es el Señor Jesucristo.

Juan 14:6: “Jesús le dice: “Yo soy el Camino [exclusivo], la Verdad [exclusiva] y la Vida [exclusiva]: nadie viene al Padre, sino por mí”.

Juan 8:23-24: “Y les dijo, “Ustedes sois de abajo, soy desde arriba; ustedes sois de este mundo, yo no soy de este mundo. Por eso os dije que moriréis en vuestros pecados: porque si no creáis que YO SOY [Jehová], en vuestros pecados moriréis”.

Jesús dijo: “Verdaderamente, verdaderamente, os digo: el que no entra por la puerta en el redil de las ovejas, pero se trepa arriba alguna otra manera, lo mismo es un ladrón y salteador.” Juan 10:1

Jesús dijo: “SOY LA PUERTA; por mí si algún hombre entra en, él será salvado; y él entrará y saldrá, y hallará pastos. El ladrón no viene sino para hurtar y matar y destruir; yo he venido para que tengan vida, y para que la tengan en abundancia”. Juan 10:9-10

Jesús dijo que la mayoría de la gente iría al infierno y no al Cielo, por todas las razones que acabo de explicar:

Jesús dijo: “Entrad en por la puerta estrecha: porque ancho es el portón y espacioso es el camino que conduce a la destrucción, y hay muchos quienes van en allí. Porque confinado es la puerta y angosto es el Camino que conduce a la Vida Eterna, y hay pocos quienes lo encuentran”. Mateo 7:13-14

Dios nunca permitirá entrar al Cielo a nadie que intente subir allí por algún otro camino que no sea Jesucristo. ¡Eres un ladrón y un salteador a los ojos de Dios si intentas hacer eso!

El mundo de la religión se divide en dos grupos:

1) Salvación por hacer obras: Hindúes, budistas, bahais, sintoístas, musulmanes, católicos, mormones, testigos de Jehová, falsos cristianos y otras religiones de todo tipo: ¡Todas estas personas están tratando de ganarse el camino al Cielo por algún método otro que la fe en la Obra terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz! Ellos no pueden saber que estarán en el Cielo cuando mueran, pero están haciendo lo mejor que pueden para agradar a Dios y hacerlo feliz con sus obras, porque su religión o su iglesia les está enseñando a hacer esto. ¡Este NO es el Camino Bíblico al Cielo!

2) Salvación por gracia únicamente mediante la fe en la Obra terminada de Jesucristo en la cruz: Esta gente sabe que es pecador; ellos han escuchado o leído el Evangelio de Jesucristo, que Él es Dios que vino a la Tierra a través de la virgen María; vivió una vida perfecta y sin pecado durante 33 años; Él se dejó crucificar en una cruz por los pecados de toda la humanidad, para que si creemos en Él, podamos tener Vida Eterna a través de su sacrificio expiatorio; fue sepultado durante 3 días y resucitó de entre los muertos al tercer día, ¡victorioso sobre el pecado, la muerte, el infierno y la tumba!

Entonces si reconocen ante Dios que son pecadores necesitados del Salvador Jesucristo, y si creen que la expiación de él en la cruz los salvará, y si invocan su Nombre para salvarlos y recibir a Jesús como su Salvador personal, entonces ¡ELLOS SERÁN SALVADOS ETERNAMENTE! ¡Aleluya! Amén.

¡Cristo es la respuesta de Dios a la Ley de Moisés!

Gálatas 3:13-14: “Cristo nos ha redimido desde la maldición de la ley, habiéndose convertido en una maldición para nosotros: porque está escrito: “Maldito es cada uno que es colgado sobre un árbol”, para que la bendición de Abraham viniera sobre los gentiles por medio de Jesucristo, para que podamos recibir la promesa del Espíritu por la fe”.

Romanos 10:4: “porque Cristo es el cumplimiento de la Ley para justicia para todo aquel que en él cree”.

Gálatas 3:24: “Por lo tanto, la Ley fue nuestro tutor [para señalarnos] a Cristo, para que pudiéramos ser justificados por la fe [en él]”.

¡La salvación a través de la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz proporciona SEGURIDAD ETERNA y paz con Dios! Amén.

I Juan 5:13: “Estas cosas os he escrito a ustedes que creéis en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios, para que sepáis que tenéis Vida Eterna, y para que sigáis creyendo en el Nombre del Hijo de Dios”.

Ninguna otra religión, excepto el Camino Bíblico, puede proporcionar paz con Dios y el conocimiento perfecto de que SOY SALVADO, ¡Y SÉ QUE VOY AL CIELO POR MI FE EN LA OBRA TERMINADA DE CRISTO!

Romanos 5:1-2: “Por lo tanto, siendo justificados por la fe, tenemos paz con Dios a través de nuestro Señor Jesús Cristo, por quien también tenemos acceso por fe en a esta gracia en la cual estamos firmes, y nos gloriamos en la certeza de la gloria de Dios”.

Entonces tu elección es creer en el Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal, o ir al infierno cuando mueras; no hay otra opción ante el único Dios verdadero, porque Él es nuestro Creador y Él hizo las reglas sobre cómo ser salvados. Sólo soy un mensajero; ¡amén!

Así es como puedes ser salvado, Y SABER que tú eres salvado, ahora mismo. Si crees en el Evangelio como lo acabo de explicar y estás listo para recibir a Jesucristo como tu Salvador personal, usa esta oración como modelo para tu propia oración:
