The theme of this Chapter is "The Old Covenant saints looked forward with saving faith to their Messiah (10:32 -11:40)"

This letter was written to the Jews of the first century who had been saved under the Old Covenant using the system of animal sacrifices in the Temple of Herod and the priesthood of Aaron and his sons.

But now that Christ had already atoned for the sins of the world on the cross of Calvary in 33 A.D., those Jews needed to move from the Old Covenant of repeated animal sacrifices to the New Covenant of Christ, which was based only on his sacrifice on the cross, which was finished and completed, once for all time: never to be repeated. This is a very important point, from which I will make applications in this study.

This process of moving from the Old to the New Covenant was one of completion for these Jews. They were already the children of God by faith! But they were incomplete in their faith without Christ as the center of their faith: it was time for them to grow up and embrace Christ, or be judged by Jehovah for their disobedience.

This letter was not written for anyone outside of this group of people; either they became followers of Christ (we know that some of them did), or they continued under the Old Covenant and were punished with death in the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple in 70 A.D.

We can apply many spiritual lessons for Christians today; but the interpretation of this letter belongs only to the Jews of the first century. Any other interpretation will lead you into doctrinal errors.

Before we begin our study of Chapter 1.4, we must look at the larger picture of Hebrews, so that we can understand where we have been and where we are going; otherwise, we will not really understand this important letter.

Book 5.1 (Hebrews & Romans): The Way into a New Covenant Relationship with Jehovah God

Complement Part 1 (Hebrews): For believing Jews under the Old Covenant during the first century (1:1 - 13:25)

Opposite Chapter 1.1: God the Son came to Earth to become a man to complete the work of Salvation on the cross (1:1 - 4:13)

Opposite Chapter 1.2: God the Son returned into Heaven to be our Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (4:14 - 7:28)

Complement Chapter 1.3: Look back to the Finished Work of Christ on the cross for your spiritual completion (8:1 - 10:31)

Complement Chapter 1.4: The Old Covenant saints looked forward with saving faith to their Messiah (10:32 -11:40)

Unique Chapter 1.5: Obey the will of Jehovah God to transfer your faith from animal sacrifices to Jesus Christ (12:1 -13:25)

Comments: Recall from the previous studies that the Golden Ratio design of the letter to the Hebrews on the Chapter level is two opposites, two complements, and one unique.

The first two chapters oppose each other in their themes:

Opposite Chapter 1.1: God the Son came to Earth to become a man to complete the work of Salvation on the cross (1:1 - 4:13)

Opposite Chapter 1.2: God the Son returned into Heaven to be our Great High Priest according to the order of Melchizedek (4:14 - 7:28)

These two chapters are a group unto themselves; they set the stage for the argument of Paul in the final three chapters to attempt to persuade the Jews of the first century, who had been saved under the Old Covenant, to move onward from the practice of animal sacrifices in the Temple to the Finished Work of Jesus Christ on the cross.

They did this by explaining that Christ had replaced the Old Covenant high priesthood of Aaron with his own High Priesthood according to Melchizedek.

Complement Chapter 1.3: Look back to the Finished Work of Christ on the cross for your spiritual completion (8:1 - 10:31)

Complement Chapter 1.4: The Old Covenant saints looked forward with saving faith to their Messiah (10:32 -11:40)

Chapter 1.3 begins a new group within Hebrews, which first explains in detail how the Finished Work of Christ on the cross (his atoning death, burial, and resurrection) fulfilled the types of the animal sacrifices on the Day of Atonement (or Yom Kippur); therefore, there was no more need for any animal sacrifices under the New Covenant. Thus, Paul encouraged these Jews to look back at the Finished Work of Christ and believe in Christ as their Messiah to become completed in their faith in Jehovah.

In Chapter 1.4, Paul took these Old Covenant Jews on a journey through their history, going all the way back to Abel, and then going all the way through the Patriarchs, Moses, and all the prophets: all of whom looked forward with saving faith to the coming of the Messiah. Using their examples of faith and obedience, Paul exhorted these Jews to follow their examples and embrace Jesus Christ as their Messiah as well.

Notice how the themes of these two chapters complement each other, like two sides of the same coin.

Unique Chapter 1.5: Obey the will of Jehovah God to transfer your faith from animal sacrifices to Jesus Christ (12:1 -13:25)

Notice how the theme of this chapter is unique compared to the previous 4 chapters. Paul made his final appeal to these Jews to embrace Christ as their Messiah, and he concluded with the assumption that at least some of them did exactly that.

Now, let's look at the Chapter as a whole, and then the introduction:

Chapter 1.4: The Old Covenant saints looked forward with saving faith to their Messiah (10:32 - 11:40)

¶Opposite Obedience to the will of God will enable a believer to overcome the opposition of others to their faith (10:32 -34)

¶Opposite Disobedience to the will of God will cause backsliding to your own destruction (10:35 - 39)

§Complement Body: The fathers of the nation of Israel obeyed Jehovah their God by faith (11:1 - 31)

¶Opposite The Patriarchs before the Great Flood obeyed God by faith (11:1 - 7)

¶Opposite Abraham and Sara were seeking a future heavenly country and city of God by faith (11:8 - 16)

¶Complement Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob prophesied the future of their sons by faith (11:17 - 22)

¶Complement Moses refused to enjoy the pleasures of sin in Egypt by faith in his future reward (11:23 - 26)

¶Unique Moses and Joshua forsook Egypt and led Israel to the Promised Land by faith (11:27 - 31)

§Complement Conclusion: The saints of God lived and died by faith (11:32 - 40)

¶Complement The saints of God won great victories by faith (11:32 - 34)

¶Complement The saints of God suffered and died by faith (11:35 - 40)

§Unique Introduction: The response of a believer to the will of God will lead either to victory or self-destruction (10:32 -39)

¶Opposite Obedience to the will of God will enable a believer to overcome the opposition of others to their faith (10:32 -34)

Unique But call to remembrance the former days, in which, after you were enlightened, you endured a great fight of afflictions:

Complement partly, while you were made a spectacle both by reproaches and afflictions;

Complement and partly, while you became companions of them that were so used.

Opposite For you had compassion on me in my chains;

Opposite and you took joyfully the spoiling of your goods; knowing in yourselves that you have in Heaven a better and an enduring substance.

Comments: First notice the golden ratio design of one unique, two complements, and two opposites in the sub-paragraphs.

Also notice the big change in tone from the previous chapter conclusion. In it, Paul was warning these Jews of the first century of great judgement from God if they refused to embrace Christ as their Messiah; but now, he is coming alongside them as an encouraging friend and brother.

The problem with these Jews was of faith and obedience. Even though many of them suspected, and even believed, that Christ was indeed their Messiah and everything that Paul told them about Christ was true; they had a problem that many people today face as well: their culture, family, and friends were all oriented toward the old way of thinking:

1) The Law of Moses

2) Animal sacrifices in the Temple

3) Three annual festivals in Jerusalem to worship Jehovah their God according to the Law of Moses and the traditions of their fathers

For these Jews, these traditions had been part of the lives of their people for over a thousand years! Asking them to suddenly change everything and put their trust in Jesus Christ; and begin attending a Christian church or Jewish Christian synagogue was a very difficult thing to do. A profession of faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior would often result in their parents disowning them as their children! Their entire village might disown them as well, and they could lose their job; and maybe even their wives or husbands and children: all because they became a born again Christian! Does that sound familiar?

I’m sure that many of my readers can understand this situation as well. Some of you live in Muslim countries, where baptism in water in the Name of Jesus can get you killed as a traitor to Islam!

Some of you live in Roman Catholic countries, where being baptized in deep water in the Name of Jesus will result in great persecution and rejection from friends, family, the local Catholic priest, and even the government.

Some of you live in countries where the worship of idols and false gods are common; and the preaching of the Gospel is not welcome, and being baptized in deep water can get you killed!

It takes real courage, faith, and obedience to the Holy Spirit and his Word to

“come out from among them, and be separate,’ says the Lord; ‘and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, and will be a Father to you; and you shall be my sons and daughters,’ says the Lord Almighty.” (2 Corinthians 6:17-18)

I accepted the Lord Jesus as my Savior in 1982. You might think, America is a Christian nation; this is not a problem. But you would be wrong!

The vast majority of people that claim to be Christians are not Christians! They do not believe that the Bible is the Word of God; and many of them also believe that there are many ways to God other than Jesus, even though the Bible says that Jesus is the only Way to God (John 14:6).

I discovered that although almost everyone in my country claims to believe in God, it is not the God of the Bible that they believe in! Instead, they believe in the god of self, the god of pleasure, the god of money, the god of sex, and so on; even Satan! Everything but the Lord Jesus Christ! Yes, they use the holy Name of Jesus often, but it is as a swear word, and not as a Holy Name to be loved and reverenced.

So when I repented of my sins and received Jesus Christ as my Savior, I immediately discovered that many of the people that I thought were Christians were actually opposed to the Gospel!

A certain woman I knew, the wife of a Baptist deacon, said something like, “Religion is okay; just don’t become a fanatic”! She refused to use a good English translation of the Bible; instead, she preferred a very liberal version that was similar to the so-called “Living Bible”. This is a good sign that the person who does this has never been born again.

Her husband, a Baptist deacon, told me that there were two gods in the Bible: one for the Old Testament, and the other for the New Testament; and the Old Testament was not the Word of God, according to him! Can you imagine it? This is evil heresy! Nowhere does the Bible teach that there are two Gods in the Bible! But this is typical of the terrible things that liberals will often say about God and his Holy Word.

I believe that both of them are in Hell today; neither one of them ever repented of their unbelief and trusted in Christ that I could tell. I hope that they did, but I have no evidence to believe that. They had religion; but they didn’t have Jesus! Sad.

These were two people that I thought would be excited and happy that I had been born again; they were both long time members of a Southern Baptist church.

However, they didn’t like the fact that I was now a Fundamental, Bible-believing Christian; which is very strange, is it not? Shouldn’t all Christians believe the Bible? How can you call yourself a Christian, unless you have the Word of God to support your beliefs? Otherwise, you are just creating your own religion from your opinions; which will never lead to Heaven!

Well, my point is that every born again Christian will face opposition from their family, friends, and the culture around them as soon as they begin telling people that they have been born again, and that they believe in Jesus Christ. This is normal, because Jesus said that we are not of this world system, as He is not of this world system.

John 15:18-21: Jesus said, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love his own; but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world; therefore the world hates you. Remember the Word that I said to you, ‘The servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will also keep yours. But all these things will they do to you for my Name’s sake, because they do not know him that sent me.”

And sadly, sometimes a new believer in Christ will even receive opposition from Christians who have backslid against God and need to repent and get right with Him!

Whether we were Jews, Muslims, Bahai, Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses, Catholics, atheists, agnostics, Masons, lost Baptists or Protestants, or just pagans, all of these cultures and belief systems are against the true God of the Bible, and they want nothing to do with the Lord Jesus Christ! They don’t want to hear that they are going to Hell unless they repent and give their hearts to Jesus Christ as their Savior. This is a normal situation for everyone.

So while these Jews of the first century (and today as well) faced a very difficult situation if they decided to follow Jesus Christ instead of the traditions of their culture and family, we need to remember that we also face similar situations.

This evil world that we live in is NOT the friend of Jesus Christ! If the world praises you, then you are not a true friend of God!

Luke 6:26: “Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! For their fathers did the same to the false prophets.”

Remember that when you see certain preachers like Billy Graham, Joel Osteen, Rick Warren, and Norman Vincent Peale, who are praised by wicked people and apostate religions like the pope of Rome. They are not what they claim to be!

But the theme of this paragraph shows that if you obey the will of God to come out from among them and be separate from the world and from sin, then God will be with you and He will give you the victory! All it takes is for you to obey the Holy Spirit and his Word, and begin following the Lord Jesus Christ, in everything! Amen.

¶Opposite Disobedience to the will of God will cause backsliding to your own destruction (10:35 - 39)

Opposite Therefore, do not cast away your confidence, which has great payment of reward:

Opposite for you need patience, that, after you have done the will of God, you might receive the promise: for yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not delay.

Complement Now, it is written: ‘The just shall live by faith.’

Complement But if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Unique But we are not of them who draw back to destruction; but of them that believe to the preserving of the soul.

Comments: First notice that the Golden Ratio design of two opposites, two complements, and one unique is the reverse from the previous paragraph. Both paragraphs oppose each other in their themes and in the direction of their sub-paragraphs. This is the standard Golden Ratio design of most introduction sections in Division one of the Holy Bible, found exclusively in the Kingdom Study Bible version, published by this ministry.

Unique But we are not of them who draw back to destruction; but of them that believe to the preserving of the soul.

Many Bible versions translate this text as

"But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul."

But I believe that this is not accurate, because of 2 things:

1) The context of this passage is in Hebrews, where Paul is trying to persuade Jews of the first century (who had already been saved under the Old Covenant) to stop offering animal sacrifices to Jehovah and to embrace Christ as their Messiah and final Sacrifice for all sins. So, Paul was not talking about saving of the soul, but preservation of the soul (which includes the body and the spirit) from destruction, which would be the judgement of God, in which the Roman army of Titus would raze Jerusalem and the Temple to the ground in 70 A.D. and kill over one million Jews.

2) The original Greek word for "preserving" is "περιποιησιν", which means "preservation, acquisition" (Strong's Concordance 4047), not salvation.

So the original Greek for this text does not support "draw back to perdiion" (which implies Hell), or "saving of the soul"; but rather, "draw back to destruction" and "believe to the preserving/preservation of the soul".

The Letter to the Hebrews has a number of such difficult texts which have not been translated well, so it is no wonder that many Christians have trouble understanding it. I believe that the Kingdom Study Bible will help believers in this area, in addition to having the correct arrangement.

Paul concludes the paragraph with a warning that if these Jews disobey the will of God for them to stop offering animal sacrifices in the Temple, and they refuse to embrace Christ as their Messiah, their future will end with destruction!

Complement Now, it is written: ‘The just shall live by faith.’

Complement But if any man draws back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.

Unique But we are not of them who draw back to destruction; but of them that believe to the preserving of the soul.

This is also true for believers today! After we have been born again, if we go back to the old life of sin and refuse to follow the Lord Jesus Christ in his path of obedience to the Word of God, our life will end with destruction as well! God is long-suffering and merciful; but He will not wait for you to repent of your backsliding forever!

No, you cannot go to Hell, once you have been truly born again; however, just like these Jews who refused to follow Christ and continued offering animal sacrifices; and finally God stopped waiting for them to repent and He sent the Roman army of Titus to Jerusalem to raze it to the ground; and over one million Jews died in the war. Something similar might happen to you, only it could be a heart attack, a car accident, or any of a multitude of things that will end your life prematurely. God is serious about sin! And so we should be also; Amen.

“The just shall live by faith”: This is absolutely true.

A born again Christian has not adopted a new religion: a born again Christian has become a child of God because of his/her repentance from sin and faith in the Finished Work of Christ on the cross 2,000 years ago; and GOD HAS MADE HIM A NEW CREATION IN CHRIST:

2 Corinthian 5:17: “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things have passed away; behold, all things have become permanently new.”

When a person becomes a child of God, they have a new relationship with God that they did not have before! The Holy Spirit now dwells in their heart; whereas He did not do that before! God has MADE THEM a new creation in Him; so, you cannot speak of this relationship as if someone has just adopted a new religion; it doesn’t work like that, because we have been changed within by the Holy Spirit.

1) They have new desires to pray to the Lord Jesus Christ. Before, they rarely if ever did that.

2) They have new desires to read the Holy Bible. Before, they rarely ever read the Bible; and if they did, it was with the eye of criticism and not the eye of faith and belief.

3) They have new desires to live a holy life for the Lord. Before, they were very careless about sin: drinking liquor/beer, smoking, cursing, lying, fornication, adultery, and so on.

The only way to do these things is to nurture our faith by regularly attending a Bible believing, Bible preaching, independent Baptist church, or at least one that is very similar.

We need the fellowship of the people of God and the regular spiritual instruction from the man of God in the pulpit of the House of God if we are going to grow in our faith in Christ and become more like Him.

1 Timothy 3:15: “But if I delay long, that you may know how you should behave yourself in the House of God; which is the Assembly of the Living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.”

Matthew 28:19-20 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority was given to me in Heaven and upon earth. Therefore go, and train disciples out of all nations; baptizing them in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit; teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.”

Friend, if you are a Jew, Muslim, Hindu, Roman Catholic, Jehovah’s Witness, Mormon (or other cultist), atheist, agnostic or a false Christian, you do not know the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior, and you will never see Heaven in your current unbelief!

You are like Pharoah of old:

Exodus 5:2: “And Pharaoh said, “Who is Jehovah, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I do not know Jehovah; neither will I let Israel go.””

I pray that you will repent of your unbelief in Him and turn to Jesus Christ right now in repentance of your sins and your false gods, and believe on Him as your Final Sacrifice for sins forever. Receive Him now as your personal Savior and receive his free gift of Eternal Life!

Here is a prayer that you can use to be saved and know that you have Eternal Life and you can KNOW for certain that you have Eternal Life, right now!

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! You are my only hope for salvation! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, you were buried, and you rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

El tema de este Capítulo es “Los santos del Antiguo Pacto miraban hacia adelante con fe salvadora a su Mesías (10:32 - 11:40)".

Esta carta fue escrita a los judíos del primer siglo que se habían salvado bajo el Antiguo Pacto usando el sistema de sacrificios de animales en el Templo de Herodes y el sacerdocio de Aarón y sus hijos.

Pero ahora que Cristo ya había expiado los pecados del mundo en la cruz del Calvario en el año 30 d.C., esos judíos necesitaban pasar del Antiguo Pacto de repetidos sacrificios de animales al Nuevo Pacto de Cristo, que se basó únicamente en su sacrificio en la cruz, que fue consumado y completado, una vez para siempre: nunca se repetirá. Hicieron esto explicando que Cristo había reemplazado el sacerdocio sumo de Aarón del Antiguo Pacto con su propio Sumo Sacerdocio según el orden de Melquisedec.

El complemento Capítulo 1.4: Los santos del Antiguo Pacto miraban hacia adelante con fe salvadora a su Mesías (10:32 - 11:40)

El capítulo 1.3 comienza un nuevo grupo dentro de Hebreos, que primero explica en detalle cómo la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz (su muerte expiatoria, sepultura y resurrección) cumplieron los tipos de los sacrificios de animales en el Día de la Expiación (o Yom Kippur); por lo tanto, ya no había necesidad de ningún sacrificio de animales bajos el Nuevo Pacto. Por lo tanto, Pablo animó a estos judíos a mirar hacia atrás a la obra terminada de Cristo y creer en Cristo como su Mesías para completar su fe en Jehová.

En el Capítulo 1.4, Pablo llevó a estos judíos del Antiguo Pacto en un viaje a través de su historia, luego yendo todo el camino de regreso a Abel, y luego pasando por los patriarcas, Moisés y todos los profetas: todos los cuales miraban hacia adelante con fe salvadora a la venida del Mesías. Usando los ejemplos de ellos de la fe y la obediencia, Pablo exhortó a estos judíos a seguir sus ejemplos y aceptar a Jesucristo como su Mesías también.

Observe cómo los temas de estos dos capítulos se complementan entre sí, como dos caras de la misma moneda.

Único Capítulo 1.5: Sé completado en tu fe a través de Cristo para evitar el castigo (12:1 - 13:25)

Observe cómo el tema de este capítulo es único en comparación con los 4 capítulos anteriores. Pablo hizo su último llamado a estos judíos para que aceptaran a Cristo como su Mesías, y concluyó con la suposición de que al menos algunos de ellos hicieron exactamente eso.

Lo opuesto y tomasteis con alegría el despojo de vuestros bienes; sabiendo en ustedes mismos que tenéis en el Cielo una sustancia mejor y más duradera.

Comentarios: Primero observe el diseño de la proporción áurea de uno único, dos complementos y dos opuestos en los subpárrafos.

Note también el gran cambio en el tono desde la conclusión del capítulo anterior. En él, Pablo estaba advirtiendo a estos judíos del primer siglo del gran juicio de Dios si se negaban a aceptar a Cristo como su Mesías; pero ahora, viene junto a ellos como un amigo y hermano alentador.

El problema con estos judíos era de fe y obediencia. Aunque muchos de ellos sospechaban, y aun creían, que Cristo era en verdad su Mesías y todo lo que Pablo les decía acerca de Cristo era verdad; tenían un problema que muchas personas también enfrentan hoy: su cultura, familia y amigos estaban todos orientados hacia la antigua forma de pensar:

1) La Ley de Moisés

2) Sacrificios de animales en el Templo

3) Tres fiestas anuales en Jerusalén para adorar a Jehová su Dios conforme a la Ley de Moisés y las tradiciones de sus padres.

¡Para estos judíos, estas tradiciones habían sido parte de las vidas de su pueblo por más de mil años! pidiéndoles que cambien todo de repente y pongan su confianza en Jesucristo; y comenzar a asistir a una iglesia cristiana o una sinagoga cristiana judía fue algo muy difícil de hacer.Una profesión de fe en Jesucristo como su Salvador a menudo resultaría en que sus padres los repudiaran como sus hijos! Toda su aldea podría repudiarlos también y podrían perder su trabajo; y tal vez incluso sus esposas o esposos e hijos: ¡todo porque se convirtieron en cristianos nacidos de nuevo! ¿Eso te suena familiar?

Estoy seguro de que muchos de mis lectores también pueden entender esta situación. ¡Algunos de ustedes viven en países musulmanes, donde el bautismo en agua en el Nombre de Jesús puede hacer que los maten por traidores al islam!

Algunos de ustedes viven en países católicos romanos, donde ser bautizados en aguas profundas en el Nombre de Jesús resultará en una gran persecución y rechazo por parte de amigos, familiares, el sacerdote católico local e incluso el gobierno.

Algunos de ustedes viven en países donde la adoración de ídolos y dioses falsos es común; and the preaching of the Gospel is not welcome, and being baptized in deep water can get you killed!

Se necesita verdadero coraje, fe y obediencia al Espíritu Santo y su Palabra para

“salid de medio de ellos, y sed separada’, dice el Señor; ‘y no toquéis la cosa inmunda; y yo os recibiré, y seré Padre a ustedes; y vosotros me seréis hijos e hijas, dice el Señor Todopoderoso.” (2 Corintios 6:17-18)

Acepté al Señor Jesús como mi Salvador en 1982. Podrías pensar, Estados Unidos es una nación cristiana; Esto no es un problema. ¡Pero estarías equivocado!

¡La gran mayoría de las personas que dicen ser cristianas no son cristianas! No creen que la Biblia es la Palabra de Dios; y muchos de ellos también creen que hay muchos caminos a Dios además de Jesús, aunque la Biblia dice que Jesús es el único Camino a Dios (Juan 14:6).

Descubrí que aunque casi todos en mi país afirman creer en Dios, ¡no es el Dios de la Biblia que en quien creen! En cambio, creen en el dios del yo, el dios del placer, el dios del dinero, el dios del sexo, etc.; ¡incluso Satanás! ¡Todo menos el Señor Jesucristo! Sí, usan el santo Nombre de Jesús a menudo, pero es como una palabrota, y no como un Nombre Santo para ser amado y reverenciado.

Entonces, cuando me arrepentí de mis pecados y recibí a Jesucristo como mi Salvador, inmediatamente descubrí que muchas de las personas que yo pensaba que eran cristianos, ¡en realidad se oponían al Evangelio!

Cierta mujer que conocí, la esposa de un diácono bautista, dijo algo así como: “La religión está bien; simplemente no te vuelvas un fanático”! Ella se negó a usar una buena traducción al inglés de la Biblia; en cambio, ella prefirió una versión muy liberal que era similar a la llamada “Biblia Viviente”. Esta es una buena señal de que la persona que hace esto nunca ha nacido de nuevo.

Su esposo, un diácono bautista, me dijo que había dos dioses en la Biblia: uno para el Antiguo Testamento y otro para el Nuevo Testamento; ¡y el Antiguo Testamento no era la Palabra de Dios, según él! ¿Puedes imaginarlo? ¡Esta es una herejía malvada! ¡En ninguna parte la Biblia enseña que hay dos Dioses en la Biblia! Pero esto es típico de las cosas terribles que los liberales suelen decir acerca de Dios y su Santa Palabra.

Yo creo que los dos están hoy en el Infierno; ninguno de ellos jamás se arrepintió de su incredulidad y confió en Cristo que yo pudiera discernir. Espero que lo hayan hecho, pero no tengo evidencia para creer eso. Tenían religión; ¡pero no tenían a Jesús! Triste.

Eran dos personas que pensé que estarían emocionadas y felices de que yo hubiera nacido de nuevo; ambos fueron miembros durante mucho tiempo de una iglesia bautista del sur.

Sin embargo, no les gustó el hecho que ahora yo era un cristiano fundamentalista que creía en la Biblia; lo cual es muy extraño, ¿no es así? ¿No deberían todos los cristianos creer a la Biblia? ¿Cómo puedes llamarte cristiano, a menos que tengas la Palabra de Dios para apoyar tus creencias? De lo contrario, solo estás creando tu propia religión a partir desde tus opiniones; que nunca conducirá al Cielo!

Bueno, mi punto es que cada cristiano nacido de nuevo enfrentará la oposición de su familia, amigos y la cultura que lo rodea tan pronto como comience a decirle a la gente que ha nacido de nuevo y que creen en Jesucristo. Esto es normal, porque Jesús dijo que no somos de este sistema mundial, como Él no es de este sistema mundial.

Juan 15:18-21: Jesús dijo, “Si el mundo os odia, sabéis que a mí me odió antes que a ustedes. Si ustedes fueran del mundo, el mundo amaría a su propio; sino porque ustedes no son del mundo, sino que yo he escogido ustedes fuera del mundo, por eso el mundo os odia. Acordaos de la Palabra que yo os dije, ‘El siervo no es mayor que su señor.’ Si a mí me han perseguido, ellos también a ustedes perseguirán; si ellos han guardado mi Palabra, también ellos guardarán la vuestra. Pero todo esto os harán por causa de mi Nombre: porque no conocen al que me envió.”

Y, lamentablemente, a veces un nuevo creyente en Cristo incluso recibirá oposición de cristianos que se han apartado de Dios y quien necesitan arrepentirse y ponerse bien con Él.

Seamos judíos, musulmanes, bahaíes, mormones, testigos de Jehová, católicos, ateos, agnósticos, masones, bautistas o protestantes perdidos, o simplemente paganos, ¡todas estas culturas y sistemas de creencias están en contra del verdadero Dios de la biblia, y no quieren tener nada que ver con el Señor Jesucristo! No quieren escuchar que irán al infierno a menos que se arrepientan y entreguen su corazón a Jesucristo como su Salvador. Esta es una situación normal para todos.

Entonces, mientras estos judíos del primer siglo (y también hoy) enfrentaron una situación muy difícil si decidieron seguir a Jesucristo en lugar de las tradiciones de su cultura y familia, debemos recordar que también enfrentamos situaciones similares.

¡Este mundo malvado en el que vivimos NO es el amigo de Jesucristo! ¡Si el mundo te alaba, entonces no eres un verdadero amigo de Dios!

Lucas 6:26: “¡Ay de ustedes, cuando todos los hombres hablen bien de ustedes! Porque sus padres hicieron lo mismo con los profetas falsos.”

Recuerda eso cuando veas a ciertos predicadores como Billy Graham, Joel Osteen, Rick Warren y Norman Vincent Peale, quienes son elogiados por personas malvadas y religiones apóstatas como el Papa de Roma. ¡No son lo que dicen ser!

Pero el tema de este párrafo muestra que si obedeces la voluntad de Dios de salir de entre ellos y separarte desde el mundo y desde el pecado, entonces Dios estará contigo y te dará la victoria! ¡Todo lo que se necesita es que obedezcas al Espíritu Santo y su Palabra, y comiences a seguir al Señor Jesucristo, en todo! Amén.

¶Lo opuesto La desobediencia a la voluntad de Dios causará la apostasía para tu propia destrucción (10:35 - 39)

Lo opuesto Por lo tanto, no desechéis vuestra confianza, cual tiene gran pago de recompensa:

Lo opuesto porque necesitáis paciencia; que habiendo hecho la voluntad de Dios, pudierais recibir la promesa: porque aún un poco de tiempo, y el que viene vendrá, y no se demorara.

El complemento Ahora, está escrito: “El justo vivirá por fe”;

El complemento sino si alguno retrocede, mi alma no tendrá placer en él.

Único Pero no somos de los que retroceden para destrucción; sino de los que creen para la conservación del alma.

Comentarios: Primero observe que el diseño de la Proporción Áurea de dos opuestos, dos complementarios y uno único es el reverso del párrafo anterior. Ambos párrafos se oponen en sus temas y en la dirección de sus subpárrafos. Éste es el diseño estándar de la Proporción Dorada de la mayoría de las secciones de introducción en la División una de la Santa Biblia, que se encuentra exclusivamente en la versión del Reino Estudio Biblia (REB), publicada por este ministerio.

Único Pero no somos de los que retroceden para destrucción; sino de los que creen para la conservación del alma.

Muchas versiones de la Biblia traducen este texto como

"Pero nosotros no somos de los que retroceden para perdición, sino de los que creen para salvación del alma."

Pero creo que esto no es exacto, debido a 2 cosas:

1) El contexto de este pasaje está en Hebreos, donde Pablo está tratando de persuadir a los judíos del primer siglo (que ya habían sido salvados bajos el Antiguo Pacto) dejar de ofrecer sacrificios de animales a Jehová y abrazar a Cristo como su Mesías y Sacrificio final por todos los pecados. Entonces, Pablo no estaba hablando de la salvación del alma, sino de la preservación del alma (que incluye el cuerpo y el espíritu) de la destrucción, que sería el juicio de Dios, en el que el ejército romano de Tito arrasaría Jerusalén y el Templo hasta los cimientos en el año 70 d.C. y mataría a más de un millón de judíos.

2) La palabra griega original para "preservación " es "περιποιησιν", lo que significa "conservación, adquisición" (Concordancia de Strong 4047), no salvación.

Entonces, el griego original de este texto no soporta "retroceder a la perdición." (que implica el infierno), o "salvación del alma"; sino más bien, "retroceden para destrucción" y "creen para la conservación del alma".

La Carta a los Hebreos tiene una serie de textos difíciles que no han sido bien traducidos, por lo que no es de extrañar que muchos cristianos tengan problemas para entenderla. Creo que el Reino Estudio Biblia (REB) ayudará a los creyentes en esta área, además de tener el arreglo correcto.

El complemento Ahora, está escrito: “El justo vivirá por fe”;

¡Esto también es cierto para los creyentes hoy! Después de haber nacido de nuevo, si volvemos a la vida anterior de pecado y rehusamos seguir al Señor Jesucristo en su camino de obediencia a la Palabra de Dios, ¡nuestra vida también terminará en destrucción! Dios es paciente y misericordioso; ¡pero Él no esperará a que te arrepientas de tu reincidencia para siempre!

No, no puedes ir al Infierno, una vez que verdaderamente has nacido de nuevo; sin embargo, al igual que estos judíos que se negaron a seguir a Cristo y continuaron ofreciendo sacrificios de animales; y finalmente Dios dejó de esperar que se arrepintieran y envió al ejército romano de Tito a Jerusalén para arrasarla hasta los cimientos; y más de un millón de judíos murieron en la guerra: ¡Algo similar podría pasarte a ti! Solo que podría ser un ataque al corazón, un accidente automovilístico o cualquiera de una multitud de cosas que terminarán con tu vida prematuramente. ¡Dios se toma en serio el pecado! Y así debemos ser también; Amén.

“El justo vivirá por fe”: Esto es absolutamente cierto.

Un cristiano nacido de nuevo no ha adoptado una nueva religión: un cristiano nacido de nuevo se ha convertido en un hijo de Dios debido a su arrepentimiento del pecado y su fe en la Obra terminada de Cristo en la cruz hace 2000 años; y DIOS LE HA HECHO una nueva criatura en Cristo:

2 Corintios 5:17: “Por lo tanto, si alguno está en Cristo, él es nueva criatura: las cosas viejas pasaron; he aquí, todas las cosas se han vuelto permanentemente nuevas.”

Cuando una persona se convierte en hijo de Dios, ¡tiene una nueva relación con Dios que no tenía antes! El Espíritu Santo ahora mora en su corazón; mientras que Él no hizo eso antes! Dios LES HA HECHO una nueva creación en Él; entonces, no se puede hablar de esta relación como si alguien acabara de adoptar una nueva religión; no funciona así, porque hemos sido transformados interiormente por el Espíritu Santo.

1) Tienen nuevos deseos de orar al Señor Jesucristo. Antes, rara vez o nunca hacían eso.

2) Tienen nuevos deseos de leer la Santa Biblia. Antes, rara vez leían la Biblia; y si lo hicieron, fue con el ojo de la crítica y no con el ojo de la fe y la creencia.

3) Tienen nuevos deseos de vivir una vida santa para el Señor. Antes, eran muy descuidados con el pecado: beber licor/cerveza, fumar, maldecir, mentir, fornicar, adulterio, etc.

La única manera de hacer estas cosas es nutrir nuestra fe asistiendo regularmente a una iglesia bautista e independiente que cree a la Biblia, y predica a la Biblia, o al menos una que sea muy similar.

Necesitamos la comunión del pueblo de Dios y la instrucción espiritual regular del hombre de Dios en el púlpito de la Casa de Dios si vamos a crecer en nuestra fe en Cristo y llegar a ser más como Él.

1 Timoteo 3:15: “para que si tardo, sepas cómo debes conducirte en la casa de Dios, que es la Asamblea del Dios viviente, la columna y el apoyo de la Verdad.”

Mateo 28:19-20: ““Y Jesús vino y les habló, diciendo, “Toda autoridad me ha sido dado en el Cielo y sobre la tierra. Por tanto, id, y haced discípulos de todas las naciones, bautizándoles en el Nombre del Padre, y del Hijo, y del Espíritu Santo; enseñándoles observar todas las cosas que os he mandado. Y, he aquí, yo estoy con ustedes todos los días, hasta el fin de la Edad.” Amén.”

Amigo, si eres judío, musulmán, hindú, católico romano, testigo de Jehová, mormón (u otra secta), ateo, agnóstico o falso cristiano, no conoces al Señor Jesucristo como tu Salvador, ¡y nunca verás el Cielo en tu actual incredulidad!

Eres como el faraón de antaño:

Éxodo 5:2: “Y dijo Faraón: ¿Quién es Jehová, para que yo obedezca su voz y deje ir a Israel? No conozco a Jehová; ni dejaré ir a Israel.””

Oro para que te arrepientas de tu incredulidad en Él y te vuelvas a Jesucristo ahora mismo en arrepentimiento de tus pecados y tus dioses falsos, y creas en Él como tu Sacrificio final por los pecados para siempre. ¡Recíbele ahora como tu Salvador personal y recibe su regalo gratuito de Vida Eterna!

Aquí hay una oración que puedes usar para ser salvado y puedes SABER con certeza que tienes Vida Eterna, ¡ahora mismo!

“Señor Jesús, sé que he pecado contra TI. ¡No soy bueno y tú eres justo! Creo que moriste en la cruz por mis pecados, fuiste enterrado y resucitaste de entre los muertos al tercer día. Quiero que vengas a mi vida y seas mi Señor y Salvador. Por favor entra en mi corazón ahora mismo. Perdóname por todos mis pecados y salva mi alma. En el poderoso Nombre de Jesús, oro, ¡Amén!”
