Comments: I know there is a lot of Bible text in this study, so I ask that you scan through the text and take note of the way that the Golden Ratio design works, but not get bogged down in the details.

We are looking at the last three paragraphs of the Body Section, which you can see has the “CCU” design: the first two complement each other, and the last paragraph is unique in its content and theme. It also has a “OO-CCU” subparagraph design, while third and fourth paragraphs have a “UCC-OO” design.

I will make additional comments after each paragraph.

¶Complement    The Sanhedrin Council of Jews commanded Peter and John not to speak anymore in the Name of Jesus (4:5 - 22)

Unique    And it came to pass on the next day, that their rulers and elders and scribes, and Annas the high priest, and Caiaphas, and John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the relatives of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem. And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power, or by what name, have you done this?”

Complement    Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “You rulers of the people, and elders of Israel, if we this day are examined of the good deed done to the helpless man, by what means he is made whole, be it known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the Name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him does this man stand here before you whole. This is the Stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the head of the corner. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is no other Name under Heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

Complement    Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and ordinary men, they marveled; and they took knowledge of them, that they had been with Jesus. And beholding the man who was healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

Opposite    But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves, saying, “What shall we do to these men? For that indeed a notable miracle has been done by them is plain to all them that dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it. But, so that it spreads no further among the people, let us strictly threaten them, that they speak henceforth to no man in this name.” And they called them, and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the Name of Jesus. But Peter and John answered and said to them, “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge: for we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.”

Opposite    So when they had further threatened them, they let them go, finding nothing how they might punish them, because of the people: for all men glorified God for that which was done: for the man was over forty years old, on whom this miracle of healing was shown.

Paragraph outline: The UCC-OO (one unique, two complements, and two opposites) Golden Ratio design of the sub-paragraphs for paragraph 3:

Unique    The council asked the apostles what power or name they had done this miracle of healing

Complement    Peter boldly proclaimed to the council of the Sanhedrin that Jesus Christ had healed the disabled man

Complement    The council of the Sanhedrin could not deny that the man had been miraculously healed

Opposite    The Sanhedrin demanded that Peter and John not preach in the Name of Jesus anymore; but they refused

Opposite    The Sanhedrin released Peter and John

Comments: Recall from the previous study that Peter had just preached to many thousands of Jews in the area of the Temple in Jerusalem, and about 5,000 were saved. This was an unwelcome development in the eyes of the leaders of the Jews in Jerusalem. They had recently brought Jesus before Pontius Pilate and forced Pilate to crucify Jesus.

They thought they had gotten rid of their chief “troublemaker” (in their eyes), but now his Name was being preached before thousands in Jerusalem, and many were being converted to Christ as a result. This had to be stopped!

But they had a problem with the disabled man who had been healed: he was very happily standing with the apostles Peter and John and they could not deny that a miracle had occurred with him.

Their solution was to merely threaten Peter and John rather than beat them, and they released them.

¶Complement    The apostles prayed for the power and protection of the Holy Spirit (4:23 - 31)

Unique    And being let go, they went to their own company, and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them.

Complement    And when they heard that, they lifted up their voice to God with one accord, and said, “Lord, you are the true God; who have made Heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all that in them is; who by the mouth of your servant David has said, ‘Why did the heathen rage, and the people imagine vain things? The kings of the earth stood up, and the rulers were gathered together against [Jehovah], and against his Christ.’ For truly against your holy child Jesus, whom you have anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, to do whatsoever your hand and your counsel determined before to be done.

Complement    And now, Lord, behold their threatening; and grant to your servants, that with all boldness they may speak your Word, by stretching forth your hand to heal; and that signs and wonders may be done by the Name of your holy child Jesus.”

Opposite    And when they had prayed, the place was shaken where they were assembled together;

Opposite    and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness.

Paragraph outline: The UCC-OO (one unique, two complements, and two opposites) Golden Ratio design of the sub-paragraphs for paragraph 4:

Unique    Peter and John reported to the church all that the Sanhedrin had said to them

Complement    The church quoted Psalm 2:1-2a and identified the Romans and the Sanhedrin council as fulfilling this Scripture

Complement    The church appealed to the Lord for power and boldness to preach the Gospel and do signs and wonders

Opposite    The Lord shook the place of their assembly

Opposite    The Lord filled the church with the Holy Spirit, and they spoke the Word of God with boldness

Comments: So the apostles reported the threats of the council of the Sanhedrin to the church in Jerusalem, and they prayed to Jehovah God for protection and power to preach the Gospel, and God filled them with the Holy Spirit.

¶Unique    The Holy Spirit slew Ananias and Sapphira at the word of Peter for attempting to corrupt the Assembly in Jerusalem (4:32 - 5:16)

Opposite    And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul; neither did any of them say that any of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

Opposite    And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus; and great grace was upon them all.

Complement    Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were owners of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold, and laid them down at the apostles’ feet; and distribution was made to every man according as he had need. And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas (which is, being interpreted, “The son of encouragement”), a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus, having land, sold it; and he brought the money, and laid it at the apostles’ feet.

Complement    But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, and kept back part of the price, his wife also being aware of it; and he brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles’ feet. But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit, and to keep back part of the price of the land? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own power? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men, but to God.” And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the spirit; and great fear came on all them that heard these things. And the young men arose, wrapped him up, and carried him out, and buried him. And it was about the space of three hours later, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. And Peter answered to her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” And she said, “Yes, for so much.” Then Peter said to her, “Why is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them who have buried your husband are at the door, and shall carry you out.” Then immediately she fell down at his feet, and yielded up the spirit; and the young men came in and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. And great fear came upon all the Assembly, and upon as many as heard these things.

Unique    And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders performed among the people, and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. And of the rest no man dared join himself to them; but the people magnified them. And believers were increasingly added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women, insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. Also a multitude came out of the cities round about to Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them who were vexed with unclean spirits; and they were healed every one.

Paragraph outline: The OO-CCU (two opposites, two complements, and one unique) Golden Ratio design of the sub-paragraphs for paragraph 5:

Opposite    The members of the church were united and generously shared their material possessions with each other

Opposite    God gave the apostles great power and great grace to the church

Complement    The wealthy members of the church, especially Barnabas, sold their lands and houses and gave the money to the apostles

Complement    Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit by keeping back part of the price of the land and paid for it with their lives

Unique    The Lord blessed the church in Jerusalem with many new Believers

Comments: Notice how different this paragraph is than the previous two paragraphs. I believe that this paragraph reveals several things:

1) Satan could not stop the growth of the church in Jerusalem with military force by the Sanhedrin.

2) Satan then resorted to subterfuge within the church by false church members, to try and destroy it with lies and corruption.

3) But Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit and discernment, detected the falseness and lies of Ananias and Sapphira, called them out, and the Holy Spirit dealt with them severely. Notice that Peter did not say that Ananias should die, but when he saw how the Holy Spirit dealt with him, he assumed that the Holy Spirit would do the same with his wife, and He did.

What can we learn from this?

1) God hates sin! Sin pollutes and corrupts whatever it touches; and when sin invades a Body of Jesus Christ (which is what a local church is), then it must be dealt with and removed, or it is like leaven in bread dough: it will fill the church with useless, empty air, so that it appears to be more than it really is, which makes it false.

“Your glorying is not good. Do you not know that a little yeast leavens the whole lump of dough? Therefore purge out the old leaven, that you may be a new lump, as you are unleavened.” 1 Corinthians 5:6 - 7

It doesn’t matter if the sin is in the pastor, the deacons, or in the church members: it must be removed, or eventually the church will be destroyed.

“But now I have written to you not to associate, if any man that is called a Christian brother is a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortionist: with such a one, no, you should not even eat. For what have I to do to judge them also that are outside? Do you not judge them that are within? But them that are outside the Assembly God judges; therefore put away from among yourselves that wicked person.” 1 Corinthians 5:11 - 13

This is how Satan destroys churches; and unfortunately, he has been very successfull in doing this for 2,000 years. He did the same with the Jews under the Old Covenant.

2) The Christians in the church MUST be filled with the Holy Spirit, so that agents of Satan (false Christians like Ananias and Sapphira) can be detected and removed from the church as soon as possible.

“Therefore I exhort you, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies as a living sacrifice: holy and acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this age; but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may discern what is that good, acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:1 - 2

3) How can Christians be filled with the Holy Spirit?

"See then that you walk circumspectly; not as fools, but as wise; redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore be not unwise; but understanding what is the will of the Lord. And be not drunk with wine (in which is excess), but be continually filled with the Spirit: speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord; giving thanks always for all things to God and the Father in the Name of our Lord Jesus Christ; submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.” Ephesians 5:15 - 21

If you repent of your sins and believe on Jesus Christ, asking Him to come into your heart to save you, because He paid for all of your sins on the cross of Calvary, then you will be saved and go to Heaven when you die!

I urge you to trust in Jesus Christ right now! Here is a prayer that you can use to repent and receive the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Savior right now, because you may not live to get saved tomorrow:

“Lord Jesus, I know that I have sinned against YOU. I am no good, and you are righteous! I believe that you died on the cross for my sins, were buried, and rose again from the dead on the third day. I want you to come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. Please come into my heart right now. Forgive me for all my sins, and save my soul. In the mighty Name of Jesus, I pray, Amen!”

If you have turned from your sins and accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and only Savior from sin, please message me through Facebook and let me know that you have done that, so that I can pray for you and rejoice with you in what God has done in your life. Amen.

¡No soy bueno y usted eres justo!
