Works in the Kingdom of God, Chapter 2.3 (3 John): Walk in Biblical truth in spite of the power-seekers in the Assembly (1:1 -14)

Introduction: I wish that you might prosper and be in health (1:1 -4)

¶Complement   Beloved, I wish above all things that you may prosper and be healthy (1:2a)

¶Complement   even as your soul prospers (1:2b)

¶Opposite   I rejoiced when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in you (1:3)

¶Opposite   I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth (1:4)

Body: I will deal with the power-seeker, Diotrephes, when I come to visit the church (1:5 -11)

¶Opposite   You do well when you help the missionaries (1:5 - 8)

¶Opposite   Therefore we should receive such, that we might be co-laborers for the truth (1:9)

¶Complement   Diotrephes disparages us with malicious talk (1:10a)

¶Complement   Diotrephes refuses to receive the missionaries, and forbids them that would (1:10b)

¶Unique    Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good (1:11)

Conclusion: I will see you soon (1:12 - 14)

¶Opposite   Demetrius has a good testimony (1:12a)

¶Opposite   Yea, and we also bear witness (1:12b)

¶Complement   I do not want to write to you with ink and pen (1:13)

¶Complement   I shall shortly see you, and we shall speak face to face (1:14a)

^1:3For I rejoiced greatly when the brethren came, and they testified of the truth that is in you, even as you walk in the truth.

^1:4I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.

§Complement   Body: I will deal with the power-seeker, Diotrephes, when I come to visit the church (1:5 -11)

^1:5Beloved, you do faithfully whatsoever you do to the brethren, and to strangers, ^1:6who have borne witness of your selfless love before the Assembly; whom, if you bring forward on their journey after a godly sort, you shall do well, ^1:7because for his Name’s sake, they went forth: taking nothing of the Gentiles; ^1:8therefore we should receive such, that we might be coworkers for the truth.

^1:9I wrote to the Assembly to do this; but Diotrephes does not receive us, who loves to have the pre-eminence among them.

^1:10Therefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he does, disparaging us with malicious talk.

And, not satisfied with this, he refuses to receive the missionary brothers; and forbids them that would, and even casts them out of the Assembly.

^1:11Beloved, do not follow that which is evil, but that which is good; he that does good is of God; but he that does evil has not seen God.

^1:12Demetrius has a good testimony of all, and of the truth itself.

Yea, and we also bear witness; and you know that our testimony is true.

^1:13I had many things to write, but I do not want to write to you with ink and pen;

^1:8Por lo tanto, deberíamos recibir tal, para que podamos ser compañeros de trabajo por la verdad.

^1:9Le escribí a la Asamblea para hacer esto; pero Diótrefes no nos reciben, a quien le encanta tener la preeminencia entre ellos. ^1:10Por lo tanto, si vengo, recordaré sus acciones que él hace: con malas palabras, haciendo falsas acusaciones contra nosotros;

y, no satisfecho con esto, él se niega a recibir a los hermanos misioneros, y les prohíbe que harían; e incluso los expulsa de la Asamblea.

^1:11Amado, no sigan que lo que es malo, sino lo que es bueno. Él que hace el bien es de Dios; pero él que hace el mal no ha visto a Dios.
