Or who has stretched the line upon it? ^38:6Upon what are its foundations fastened? Or who laid its cornerstone, ^38:7when the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

^38:8“Or who shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, as if it had issued out of the womb; ^38:9when I made the cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it, ^38:10and broke up for it my decreed place, and set bars and doors, ^38:11and said, ‘Unto here shall you come, but no further; and here shall your proud waves be stopped’?”

^38:28“Does the rain have a father? Or who has begotten the drops of dew? ^38:29Out of whose womb came the ice? And the hoarfrost of heaven, who has gendered it? ^38:30The waters harden like a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

^38:31“Can you bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loosen the bands of Orion? ^38:32Can you bring forth Mazzaroth in his season? Or can you guide Arcturus with his sons? ^38:33Do you know the ordinances of heaven? Can you set its dominion in the earth? ^38:34Can you lift your voice up to the clouds, so that abundance of waters may cover you? ^38:35Can you send lightning, so that they may go, and say to you, ‘Here we are’? ^38:36Who has put wisdom in the inward parts? Or who has given understanding to the heart? ^38:37Who can number the clouds in wisdom? Or who can pour out the bottles of heaven, ^38:38when the dust grows into hardness, and the clods stick fast together?”

^38:39“Will you hunt the prey for the lion? Or fill the appetite of the young lions, ^38:40when they couch in their dens, and remain in the covert to lie in wait?

^39:1“Do you know the time when the wild goats of the rock bring forth, or can you mark when the deer calve? ^39:2Can you number the months that they fulfill? Or do you know the time when they bring forth? ^39:3They bow themselves; they give birth to their young ones; they cast out their sorrows. ^39:4Their young ones are in good liking; they grow up with grain; they go forth, and do not return to them.”

^39:5“Who has sent out the wild donkey free? Or who has loosened the bands of the wild donkey? ^39:6Whose house I have made the wilderness, and the barren land his dwellings. ^39:7He scorns the multitude of the city; neither does he regard the crying of the driver. ^39:8The range of the mountains is his pasture; and he searches after every green thing.

^39:9“Will the wild ox be willing to serve you, or remain by your crib? ^39:10Can you bind the wild ox with his band in the furrow? Or will he plow the valleys for you? ^39:11Will you trust him, because his strength is great? Or will you leave your labor to him? ^39:12Will you believe him, that he will bring home your seed, and gather it into your barn?”

^39:13“Did you give the beautiful wings to the peacocks? Or wings and feathers to the ostrich? ^39:14Which leaves her eggs in the earth, and warms them in dust, ^39:15and forgets that the foot may crush them, or that the wild beast may break them. ^39:16She is hardened against her young ones, as though they were not hers. Her labor is in vain without concern, ^39:17because God has deprived her of wisdom; neither has he imparted to her understanding. ^39:18When she lifts up herself on high, she scorns the horse and his rider.

^39:19“Have you given the horse strength? Have you clothed his neck with thunder? ^39:20Can you make him afraid as a grasshopper? The glory of his nostrils is terrifying. ^39:21He paws in the valley, and rejoices in his strength. He goes on to meet the armed men. ^39:22He mocks at fear, and is not afraid; neither does he turn back from the sword. ^39:23The quiver rattles against him, the glittering spear and the shield. ^39:24He swallows the ground with fierceness and rage; neither believes he that it is the sound of the trumpet. ^39:25He says among the trumpets, ‘Ha, ha!’; and he smells the battle afar off, the thunder of the captains, and the shouting.

^39:26“Does the hawk fly by your wisdom, and stretch her wings toward the south? ^39:27Does the eagle mount up at your command, and make her nest on high? ^39:28She dwells and remains on the rock, upon the crag of the rock, and the strong place. ^39:29From there she seeks the prey, and her eyes behold far away. ^39:30Her young ones also suck up blood; and where the slain are, there she is also.”

^40:1Moreover Jehovah answered Job, and said, ^40:2“Shall he that contends with the Almighty instruct him? He that rebukes God, let him answer it.”

^40:3Then Job answered Jehovah, and said, ^40:4“Behold, I am vile. What shall I answer you? I will lay my hand upon my mouth. ^40:5Once have I spoken, but I will not answer; moreover, twice, but I will proceed no further.”

^40:6Then Jehovah answered to Job out of the whirlwind, and said, ^40:7“Gird up your loins now like a man; I will demand of you; and you declare to me.

^40:8“Will you also annul my judgment? Will you condemn me, that you may be righteous?

^40:9“Do you have an arm like God? Or can you thunder with a voice like him?”

^40:10“Adorn yourself now with majesty and excellence; and array yourself with glory and beauty. ^40:11Cast abroad the rage of your wrath; and behold everyone that is proud, and humble him. ^40:12Look on everyone that is proud, and bring him low; and tread down the wicked in their place. ^40:13Hide them in the dust together, and bind their faces in secret.

^40:14“Then will I also confess to you that your own right hand can save you.”

^40:15“Behold now Behemoth, which I made with you; he eats grass like an ox. ^40:16Look now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly. ^40:17He moves his tail like a cedar tree; the sinews of his stones are wrapped together. ^40:18His bones are like strong pieces of bronze; his bones are like bars of iron. ^40:19He is the first of the ways of God. He that made him can also make his sword to approach to him. ^40:20Surely the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play. ^40:21He lies under the shady trees, in the covert of the reed and marsh. ^40:22The shady trees cover him with their shadow; the willows of the brook surround him. ^40:23Behold, he drinks up a river, and does not hurry; he trusts that he can draw up Jordan into his mouth. ^40:24He takes it with his eyes; his nose pierces through snares.

^41:1“Can you draw out Leviathan with a hook? Or his tongue with a cord which you let down? ^41:2Can you put a hook into his nose? Or bore his jaw through with a thorn? ^41:3Will he make many supplications to you? Will he speak soft words to you? ^41:4Will he make a covenant with you? Will you take him for a servant forever? ^41:5Will you play with him as with a bird? Or will you bind him for your maidservants? ^41:6Shall the companions make a banquet of him? Shall they part him among the merchants? ^41:7Can you fill his skin with barbed irons? Or his head with fish spears? ^41:8Lay your hand upon him; remember the battle, and do no more. ^41:9Behold, the hope of him is in vain. Shall not one be cast down even at the very sight of him? ^41:10There is none so fierce that dares to stir him up. Who then is able to stand before me?”

^41:11“Who has preceded me, that I should repay him? Everything under the whole heaven is mine.

^41:12“I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his magnificent structure. ^41:13Who can discover the face of his garment? Or who can come to him with his double bridle? ^41:14Who can open the jaws of his face? His teeth are terrifying round about. ^41:15His scales are his pride, shut up together as with a close seal. ^41:16One is so near to another, that no air can come between them. ^41:17They are joined one to another; they stick together, so that they cannot be separated. ^41:18By his sneezing a light shines; and his eyes are like the eyelids of the morning. ^41:19Burning lamps go out of his mouth, and sparks of fire leap out. ^41:20Smoke goes out of his nostrils, as out of a boiling pot or caldron. ^41:21His breath kindles coals, and a flame goes out of his mouth. ^41:22In his neck remains strength; and sorrow is turned into joy before him. ^41:23The flakes of his flesh are joined together; they are firm in themselves: they cannot be moved. ^41:24His heart is as firm as a stone; moreover, as hard as a piece of the lower millstone. ^41:25When he raises himself up, the mighty are afraid; by reason of breakings, they purify themselves. ^41:26The sword of him that attacks him cannot prevail; neither the spear, the arrow, nor the habergeon. ^41:27He esteems iron like straw, and bronze like rotten wood. ^41:28The arrow cannot make him flee; sling stones are turned into stubble with him. ^41:29Clubs are counted as stubble; he laughs at the shaking of a spear. ^41:30Sharp stones are under him; he spreads sharp pointed things upon the mud. ^41:31He makes the deep to boil like a pot; he makes the sea like a pot of ointment. ^41:32He makes a path to shine after him; one would think the deep to be gray.

^41:33“Upon earth there is not his equal, who is made without fear. ^41:34He beholds all high things. He is a king over all the children of pride.”

^42:7And it was so, that after Jehovah had spoken these words to Job, Jehovah said to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is kindled against you, and against your two friends: for you have not spoken of me what is right, as my servant Job has.

^42:8“Therefore take to you now seven bulls and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up a burnt offering for yourselves; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept, lest I deal with you after your folly, in that you have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.”

^42:9So Eliphaz the Temanite, Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite went; and they did according as Jehovah commanded them.

Also Jehovah accepted Job;

^42:10and Jehovah turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends.

Also Jehovah gave Job twice as much as he had before. ^42:11Then there came to him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house; and they bemoaned him, and comforted him over all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him; also every man gave him a piece of money, and everyone an earring of gold. ^42:12So Jehovah blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yokes of oxen, and a thousand female donkeys.

^42:13He also had seven sons, and three daughters. ^42:14And he called the name of the first daughter, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch. ^42:15And in all the land were no women found as beautiful as the daughters of Job; and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

^42:16After this, Job lived one hundred and forty years; and he saw his sons and his grandsons, four generations. So Job died, being old and full of days.

^38:31“¿Podrás tú atar las delicias de las Pléyades, o desatarás las ligaduras del Orión? ^38:32¿Sacarás tú a su tiempo las constelaciones de los cielos, o guiarás a la Osa Mayor con sus hijos? ^38:33¿Supiste tú las ordenanzas de los cielos? ¿Dispondrás tú de su potestad en la tierra? ^38:34¿Alzarás tú a las nubes tu voz, para que te cubra muchedumbre de aguas? ^38:35¿Enviarás tú los relámpagos, para que ellos vayan? ¿Y te dirán ellos, ‘Henos aquí?’. ^38:36¿Quién puso la sabiduría en el corazón? ¿O quién dio a la mente la inteligencia? ^38:37¿Quién puso por cuenta los cielos con sabiduría? ^39:5“¿Quién echó libre al asno montés, y quién soltó sus ataduras? ^39:6Al cual yo puse casa en la soledad, y sus moradas en lugares estériles. ^39:7Se burla de la multitud de la ciudad; no oye las voces del arriero. ^39:8Lo oculto de los montes es su pasto, y anda buscando todo lo que está verde.

^39:9“¿Querrá el unicornio servirte a ti, o quedar en tu pesebre? ^39:10¿Atarás tú al unicornio con coyunda para el surco? ¿Labrará los valles en pos de ti? ^39:11¿Confiarás tú en él, por ser grande su fortaleza, y le fiarás tu labor? ^39:12¿Fiarás de él para que recoja tu semilla y la junte en tu era?”.

El resoplido de su nariz es formidable. ^39:21Escarba la tierra, se alegra en su fuerza, sale al encuentro de las armas. ^39:22Hace burla del espanto, y no teme, ni vuelve el rostro delante de la espada. ^39:23Contra él suena la aljaba, el hierro de la lanza y de la jabalina; ^39:24y él con ímpetu y furor escarba la tierra, sin importarle el sonido de la trompeta; ^39:25antes como que dice entre los clarines, ‘¡Ea!’. Y desde lejos huele la batalla, el grito de los capitanes, y el vocerío.

^39:26“¿Vuela el halcón por tu sabiduría, y extiende hacia el sur sus alas? ^39:27¿Se remonta el águila por tu mandamiento, y pone en alto su nido? ^39:28Ella habita y mora en la roca, en la cumbre de la peña, en lugar seguro. ^39:29Desde allí acecha la presa; sus ojos observan de muy lejos. ^39:30Sus polluelos chupan la sangre; y donde hubiere cadáveres, allí está ella”.

^40:1Además respondió Jehová a Job y dijo, ^40:2“¿Es sabiduría contender con el Omnipotente? El que disputa con Dios, responda a esto”.

^40:3Y respondió Job a Jehová, y dijo, ^40:4“He aquí que soy vil, ¿qué te responderé? Mi mano pongo sobre mi boca. ^40:5Una vez hablé, pero no responderé; aun dos veces, pero no añadiré más”.

^40:10“Atavíate ahora de majestad y de alteza; y vístete de honra y de hermosura. ^40:11Esparce el furor de tu ira; y mira a todo arrogante, y abátelo. ^40:12Mira a todo soberbio, y humíllalo, y quebranta a los impíos en su sitio. ^40:13Encúbrelos a todos en el polvo, venda sus rostros en la oscuridad;

^40:14“Y yo también te confesaré que podrá salvarte tu diestra”.

^40:15“He aquí ahora behemot, al cual yo hice contigo; hierba come como buey. ^40:16He aquí ahora que su fuerza está en sus lomos, y su vigor en el ombligo de su vientre. ^40:17Su cola mueve como un cedro, y los nervios de sus genitales están entretejidos. ^40:18Sus huesos son fuertes como bronce, y sus miembros como barras de hierro. ^40:19Él es el principal de los caminos de Dios. El que lo hizo, puede hacer que su espada a él se acerque. ^40:20Ciertamente los montes producen hierba para él; y toda bestia del campo retoza allá. ^40:21Se echará debajo de las sombras, en lo oculto de las cañas, y de los lugares húmedos. ^40:22Los árboles sombríos lo cubren con su sombra; los sauces del arroyo lo rodean. ^40:23He aquí que el bebe un río, y no se inmuta; y confía que puede pasarse el Jordán por su boca. ^40:24Lo toma con sus ojos; su nariz atraviesa el lazo.

^41:1“¿Sacarás tú al leviatán con el anzuelo, o con la cuerda que le eches en su lengua? ^41:2¿Pondrás tú garfio en sus narices, y horadarás con espina su quijada? ^41:3¿Multiplicará él ruegos para contigo? ¿Te hablará él lisonjas? ^41:4¿Hará pacto contigo? ¿Le tomarás por siervo para siempre? ^41:5¿Jugarás tú con él como con pájaro, o lo atarás para tus niñas? ^41:6¿Harán de él banquete los compañeros? ¿Lo repartirán entre los mercaderes? ^41:7¿Cortarás tú con cuchillo su piel, o con arpón de pescadores su cabeza? ^41:8Pon tu mano sobre él; te acordarás de la batalla, y no lo volverás a hacer. ^41:9He aquí que la esperanza acerca de él será burlada: porque aun a su sola vista se desmayarán. ^41:10Nadie hay tan osado que lo despierte. ¿Quién, pues, podrá estar delante de mí?”.

^41:11“¿Quién me ha dado a mi primero, para que yo se lo restituya? Todo lo que hay debajo del cielo es mío.

^41:12“Yo no callaré en cuanto a sus miembros, ni lo de sus fuerzas y la gracia de su disposición. ^41:13¿Quién descubrirá la delantera de su vestidura? ¿Quién se acercará a él con freno doble? ^41:14¿Quién abrirá las puertas de su rostro? Las hileras de sus dientes espantan. ^41:15Sus escamas son su orgullo, cerradas entre sí estrechamente. ^41:16La una se junta con la otra, que viento no entra entre ellas. ^41:17Unida está la una con la otra, están trabadas entre sí, que no se pueden separar. ^41:18Con sus estornudos encienden lumbre, y sus ojos son como los párpados del alba. ^41:19De su boca salen hachas de fuego, centellas de fuego proceden. ^41:20De sus narices sale humo, como de una olla o caldero que hierve. ^41:21Su aliento enciende los carbones, y de su boca sale llama. ^41:22En su cerviz mora la fortaleza, y se esparce el desaliento delante de él. ^41:23Las partes más flojas de su carne están apretadas; están en él firmes, y no se mueven. ^41:24Su corazón es firme como una piedra, y fuerte como la muela de abajo. ^41:25De su grandeza tienen temor los fuertes, y a causa de su desfallecimiento hacen por purificarse. ^41:26Cuando alguno lo alcanzare, ni espada, ni lanza, ni dardo, ni coselete durará. ^41:27El hierro estima por paja, y el acero por leño podrido. ^41:28Saeta no le hace huir; las piedras de honda se le tornan paja. ^41:29Tiene toda arma por hojarascas, y del blandir de la jabalina se burla. ^41:30Por debajo tiene agudas conchas; Imprime su agudeza en el suelo. ^41:31Hace hervir como una olla el profundo mar, y lo torna como una olla de ungüento. ^41:32En pos de sí hace resplandecer la senda, que parece que el abismo sea cano.

^41:33No hay sobre la tierra semejante a él, que es hecho libre de temor. ^41:34Menosprecia toda cosa alta; es rey sobre todos los soberbios”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: Jehová restauró todo lo que Job había perdido, excepto sus primeros hijos que murieron (42:1 - 17)

¶El complemento   Jehová ordenó a los tres amigos de Job que ofrecieran una ofrenda quemada para que expiaran sus falsas palabras sobre Job (42:1 - 9a)

^42:1Y respondió Job a Jehová, y dijo, ^42:2“Yo sé que todo lo puedes, y que no hay pensamiento que se esconda de ti. ^42:3¿Quién es el que oscurece el consejo sin conocimiento? Por tanto yo hablaba lo que no entendía; cosas muy maravillosas para mí, que yo no sabía.

^42:4“Oye te ruego, y hablaré; te preguntaré, y tú me enseñarás. ^42:5De oídas te había oído; pero ahora mis ojos te ven. ^42:6Por tanto me aborrezco, y me arrepiento en polvo y en ceniza”.

^42:7Y aconteció que después que habló Jehová estas palabras a Job, Jehová dijo a Elifaz el temanita, “Mi ira se encendió contra ti y tus dos compañeros: porque no habéis hablado de mí lo recto, como mi siervo Job.

^42:8“Ahora pues, tomaos siete becerros y siete carneros, e id a mi siervo Job, y ofreced holocausto por ustedes, y mi siervo Job orará por ustedes: porque de cierto a él atenderé para no trataros con afrenta, por cuanto no habéis hablado de mí con rectitud, como mi siervo Job”.

^42:9Fueron, pues, Elifaz el temanita, y Bildad el suhita, y Zofar el naamatita, e hicieron como Jehová les dijo.

¶El complemento   Jehová restauró la riqueza, los hijos y la salud de Job (42:9b - 17)

Asimismo, Jehová atendió a Job.

^42:10Y mudó Jehová la aflicción de Job, orando él por sus amigos.

Y aumentó al doble todas las cosas que habían sido de Job. ^42:11Y vinieron a él todos sus hermanos, y todas sus hermanas, y todos los que antes le habían conocido, y comieron con él pan en su casa, y se condolieron de él, y le consolaron de todo aquel mal que Jehová había traído sobre él; y cada uno de ellos le dio una pieza de dinero, y un zarcillo de oro. ^42:12Y bendijo Jehová la postrimería de Job más que su principio: porque tuvo catorce mil ovejas, seis mil camellos, mil yuntas de bueyes y mil asnas.

^42:13Y tuvo siete hijos y tres hijas. ^42:14Y llamó el nombre de la primera, Jemima, y el nombre de la segunda, Cesia, y el nombre de la tercera, Keren-hapuc. ^42:15Y en toda la tierra no había mujeres tan hermosas como las hijas de Job; y les dio su padre herencia entre sus hermanos.

^42:16Y después de esto vivió Job ciento cuarenta años, y vio a sus hijos, y a los hijos de sus hijos, hasta la cuarta generación. ^42:17Y murió Job, viejo y lleno de días.
