^11:1Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen: ^11:2for by it the elders obtained a good testimony. ^11:3By faith, we understand that the Ages were framed by the spoken Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made by things that are visible.

^11:4By faith, Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts; and by it he being dead still speaks.

^11:5By faith, Enoch was translated, so that he would not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.

^11:6But without faith it is impossible to please him: for the one coming to God must believe that he exists; and that he is a rewarder of them that eagerly seek him.

^11:7By faith Noah, being warned by God of things as yet unseen, moved with fear, and prepared an Ark to the saving of his household; by which he condemned the world, and became heir of the righteousness which is by faith.

^11:8By faith, Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he would after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing where he was going. ^11:9By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a foreign country; dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: ^11:10for he looked for a city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.

^11:11By faith also, Sara herself received strength to conceive seed; and she delivered a child when she was past the age of menopause: for she judged him to be faithful who had promised. ^11:12Therefore, from one man (and him as good as dead), were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude, and as the sand which is by the sea shore innumerable.

^11:13These all died in faith, not having received the promises; but having seen them far away, they were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.

^11:14For they that say such things declare plainly that they seek a country. ^11:15And truly, if they had been mindful of that country from which they came out, they might have had opportunity to have returned.

^11:16But now they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly; therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he has prepared a city for them.

¶Complement   Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob prophesied the future of their sons by faith (11:17 - 22)

^11:25choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season;

^11:26considering the reproach of Christ to be greater riches than the treasures in Egypt:

for he focused on the payment of his future reward.

^11:27By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

^11:29By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, which the Egyptians attempting to do were drowned.

^11:30By faith the walls of Jericho fell down, after they were encircled seven days.

^11:31By faith the prostitute Rahab did not perish with them that believed not, when she had received the spies with peace.

stopped the mouths of lions, ^11:34quenched the violence of fire, escaped the edge of the sword;

out of weakness were made strong, became valiant in fight, and turned to flight the armies of the aliens.

They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins: being destitute, afflicted, and tormented ^11:38(of whom the world was not worthy).

They wandered in deserts, and mountains, and dens and caves of the earth.

^11:39And these all, having obtained a good report by faith, did not receive the promise: ^11:40God having provided some better thing for us, that they apart from us should not be made complete.

^11:4Por la fe, Abel ofreció a Dios más excelente sacrificio que Caín, por lo cual alcanzó testimonio de que era justo, Dios testificando de sus dones; y por ello, él estando muerto todavía habla

^11:5Por la fe, Enoc fue quitado, para que no viera la muerte, y no fue hallado: porque Dios se le había llevado: porque antes de su remoción, tenía este testimonio: que él agradó a Dios.

^11:6Pero sin fe, es imposible agradar a Él: el que viene a Dios ha de creer que existe; y que él es un recompensador de los que le buscan ansiosamente.

^11:7Por la fe, Noé, siendo advertido por Dios de cosas que aún no se veían, movido con miedo, y preparó el Arca a la salvación de su casa; por el cual, él condenó al mundo, y llegó a ser heredero de la justicia que es por la fe.

^11:8Por la fe, Abraham, cuando fue llamado para salir a un lugar que recibiría después para herencia, obedeció; para salir al lugar que había de recibir por herencia; y salió, no saber a donde él iba. ^11:9Por la fe, habitó en la tierra prometida como en tierra ajena, morando en tiendas con Isaac y Jacob, coherederos de la misma promesa: ^11:10porque él buscó una ciudad que tiene fundamentos, cuyo artífice y hacedor es Dios.

^11:11Por la fe también, Sara misma recibió fuerza para concebir semilla; y dio a luz a un niño cuando ella había pasado la edad de la menopausia: porque ella juzgó a él para ser fiel quien había prometido. ^11:12Por lo tanto, desde uno hombre (y él tan bueno como muerto), nacieron tantos como las estrellas del cielo en multitud, y como la arena que está a la orilla del mar innumerables.

^11:13Todos estos murieron en la fe, no haber recibido las promesas; sino habiéndolos visto lejos, ellos fueron persuadidos de ellos, y abrazaron a ellos, y confesando que eran extranjeros y peregrinos sobre la tierra.

^11:14Porque los que dicen tales cosas declaran abiertamente que ellos buscan un país. ^11:15En verdad, si hubiesen estado pensando de ese país de donde vinieron, ellos podrían haber tenido oportunidad regresar.

^11:16Pero ahora ellos desean un mejor país, es decir, un celestial; por lo tanto, Dios no se avergüenza de ser llamado el Dios de ellos: porque ha preparado una ciudad para ellos.

¶El complemento   Abraham, Isaac y Jacob profetizaron el futuro de sus hijos por la fe (11:17 - 22)

^11:27Por la fe, él abandonó Egipto, no temiendo la ira del rey: porque aguantó, como viendo al que es invisible.

^11:28Por la fe, él celebró la pascua y el rociamiento de la sangre, no sea que el que destruyó a los primogénitos podría tocarlos.

^11:29Por la fe, ellos pasaron por el Mar Rojo como por tierra seca; cual los egipcios, tratando de hacer, se ahogaron.

^11:30Por la fe, los muros de Jericó cayeron, después de rodearlos siete días.

^11:31Por la fe, Rahab la ramera no pereció juntamente con los incrédulos, habiendo recibido a los espías con paz.

^11:33quien por la fe conquistaron reinos, hicieron justicia, obtuvieron promesas;

tapó las bocas de los leones, ^11:33apagaron el poder del fuego, escaparon del filo de la espada;

fuera de la debilidad, se hicieron fuertes; se hicieron valientes en la lucha, e hicieron huir los ejércitos de los extranjeros.

¶El complemento   Los santos de Dios sufrieron y murieron por la fe (11:35 - 40)

^11:35Las mujeres recibieron a sus muertos levantado a la vida de nuevo; y otros fueron torturados, no aceptando la liberación, a fin de obtener mejor resurrección.

^11:36Y otros tuvieron juicio de cruel burla y flagelación; de hecho, también de cadenas y prisiones. ^11:37Ellos fueron apedreados, aserrados, probados, y fueron muertos a espada.

Ellos deambularon en pieles de oveja y pieles de cabra: siendo indigente, afligido y atormentado; ^11:38(de quien el mundo no era digno).

Anduvieron errantes por los desiertos, las montañas, los antros y las cuevas de la tierra.

^11:39Y todos éstos, todos éstos, habiendo obtenido buen testimonio por medio de la fe, no recibieron la promesa; ^11:40Dios habiendo provisto algo mejor para nosotros, que ellos, aparte de nosotros, no deberían ser hechos completos.
