§Unique Introduction: Paul continued traveling to Jerusalem, in spite of opposition of the Holy Spirit through other Believers (21:1 - 14)

¶Opposite Paul and his missionary band sailed from Asia Minor to the port city of Tyre, where they stayed with a church for a week (21:1 - 6)

^21:1And it came to pass, that after we left them, and had launched, we came with a straight course to Coos; and the day following to Rhodes, and from there to Patara.

^21:2And, finding a ship sailing over to Phoenicia, we went aboard, and set forth.

^21:3Now when we sighted Cyprus, we left it on the left hand; and we sailed into Syria, and landed at Tyre: for the ship was to unload her cargo there.

And they are all zealous of the Law; ^21:21and they are informed of you, that you teach all the Jews that are among the Gentiles to forsake Moses: saying, that they should not circumcise their children; neither walk after the customs.

^21:22What is it therefore? The multitude must necessarily come together: for they will hear that you have come. ^21:23Therefore do this that we say to you: we have four men who have a Nazarite vow on them; ^21:24take them, and consecrate yourself with them, and be at charges with them, that they may shave their head. And all may know that those things, whereof they were informed concerning you, are nothing; but that you yourself also walk orderly, and observe the Law.

This is the man, that teaches all men everywhere against the people, and the Law, and this place. And furthermore he brought Greeks also into the Temple, and has polluted this holy place.” ^21:29(For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the Temple.) ^21:30And the entire city was agitated; and the people ran together, and they took Paul, and dragged him out of the Temple; and at once the doors were shut.

^21:31And as they prepared to kill him, news came to the tribune of the Roman garrison, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar; ^21:32who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down to them; and when they saw the tribune and the soldiers, they stopped beating Paul.

^21:33Then the tribune came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and he demanded to know who he was, and what he had done. ^21:34And some cried one thing, and some another, among the multitude; and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle. ^21:35And when he came upon the stairs, it was so, that he was carried by the soldiers because of the violence of the people: ^21:36for the multitude of the people followed after them, crying, “Away with him!”

^21:37And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said to the tribune, “May I speak to you?” Who said, “Can you speak Greek? ^21:38Are you not that Egyptian, which before these days made an uproar, and led out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers?” ^21:39But Paul said, “I am a man who is a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no obscure city.

¶Opposite Paul was a zealous persecutor of Christians before he was met Jesus on the road to Damascus (21:40 - 22:10)

And when there was made a great silence, he spoke to them in the Hebrew language, saying, ^22:1“Men, brethren, and fathers, hear my defense which I make now to you!” ^22:2(And when they heard that he spoke in the Hebrew language to them, they kept the more silence.)

¶Complement Paul caused great division among the Sanhedrin Council by identifying as a Pharisee (22:30 - 23:11)

^22:30On the next day, because he was willing to know the real reason that he was accused by the Jews, he released him from his bonds. And he commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.

For do you sit to judge me after the Law, and command me to be smitten contrary to the Law?” ^23:4And they that stood by said, “Do you revile God’s high priest?” ^23:5Then Paul said, “I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest: for it is written, ‘You shall not speak evil of the ruler of your people.’”

^23:6But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, “Men, brethren! I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee. Of the hope and resurrection of the dead am I called in question!” ^23:7And when he had said this, there arose a disagreement between the Pharisees and the Sadducees, and the multitude was divided: ^23:8for the Sadducees say that there is no resurrection; neither angel, nor spirit; but the Pharisees confess both. ^23:9And there arose a great cry; and the scribes that were of the Pharisees’ part arose, and protested, saying, “We find no evil in this man! But if a spirit or an angel has spoken to him, let us not fight against God.”

^22:29Así que, en seguida se apartaron de él los que le iban a interrogar; y el tribuno, al saber que era Romano, también tuvo temor por haberle atado.

^23:6Pero cuando Pablo percibió que una parte era de saduceos, y la otra de fariseos, alzó la voz en el concilio, “¡Varones, hermanos, yo siendo fariseo, hijo de fariseo; de la esperanza y de la resurrección de los muertos soy juzgado!”. ^23:7Y cuando hubo dicho esto, se levantó una disensión entre los fariseos y los saduceos, y la multitud se dividió: ^23:8porque los saduceos dicen que no hay resurrección, ni ángel, ni espíritu; pero los fariseos profesan estas cosas. ^23:9Y se levantó un gran vocerío; y levantándose los escribas de la parte de los fariseos, contendían diciendo, “Ningún mal hallamos en este hombre; que si un espíritu le ha hablado, o un ángel, no peleemos contra Dios”.

^23:10Y como hubo gran disensión, el tribuno, teniendo temor de que Pablo fuera despedazado por ellos, ordenó a los soldados que bajaran y lo arrebataran de en medio de ellos y lo llevaran a la fortaleza.
