Samuel, Chapter 2.1: Jehovah exalted the Kingdom of Zion under king David (2 Sam 5:1 - 10:19)

And they anointed David king over Israel. ^5:4David was thirty years old when he began to reign; and he reigned forty years; ^5:5in Hebron he reigned over Judah seven years and six months; and in Jerusalem he reigned thirty-three years over all Israel and Judah.

^5:6And the king and his men went to Jerusalem to the Jebusites, the inhabitants of the land, which spoke to David, saying, “Unless you take away the blind and the lame, you shall not come in here” (thinking, “David cannot come in here”). ^5:7Nevertheless David took the stronghold of Zion: the same is the city of David. ^5:8And David said on that day, “Whosoever gets up to the watercourse, and smites the Jebusites, and the lame and the blind, that are hated of David’s soul, he shall be chief and captain.” Therefore they said, “The blind and the lame shall not come into the House.”

^5:9So David dwelt in the fort, and called it the city of David. And David built round about from Millo and inward. ^5:10And David went on, and grew great, and Jehovah God of hosts was with him. ^5:11And Hiram king of Tyre sent messengers to David, and cedar trees, and carpenters, and masons; and they built David a house. ^5:12And David perceived that Jehovah had established him king over Israel, and that he had exalted his kingdom for his people Israel’s sake.

^5:13And David took himself more concubines and wives out of Jerusalem, after he came from Hebron; and there were yet sons and daughters born to David. ^5:14And these are the names of those that were born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, and Solomon; ^5:15also Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, ^5:16Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphalet.

^5:17But when the Philistines heard that they had anointed David king over Israel, all the Philistines came up to seek David; and David heard of it, and went down to the hold. ^5:18The Philistines also came and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim. ^5:19And David inquired of Jehovah, saying, “Shall I go up to the Philistines? Will you deliver them into my hand?” And Jehovah said to David, “Go up: for I will doubtless deliver the Philistines into your hand.”

^5:20And David came to Baal-perazim; and David smote them there, and said, “Jehovah has broken forth upon my enemies before me, as the breach of water.” Therefore he called the name of that place Baal-perazim. ^5:21And they left their images there, and David and his men burned them.

^5:22And the Philistines came up yet again, and spread themselves in the valley of Rephaim.

^5:23And when David inquired of Jehovah, he said, “You shall not go up; but circle around behind them, and come upon them over against the mulberry trees. ^5:24And let it be, when you hear the sound of a going in the tops of the mulberry trees, that then you shall move quickly: for then shall Jehovah go out before you, to smite the army of the Philistines.”

^5:25And David did so, as Jehovah commanded him; and he smote the Philistines from Geba until you come to Gazer.

^6:3And they set the Ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart. ^6:4And they brought it out of the house of Abinadab which was at Gibeah, accompanying the Ark of God; and Ahio went before the Ark. ^6:5And David and all the house of Israel played before Jehovah on all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps, and on psalteries, and on timbrels, and on cornets, and on cymbals.

^6:6And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the Ark of God, and took hold of it: for the oxen shook it. ^6:7And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and he died there by the Ark of God.

^6:8And David was displeased, because Jehovah had made a breach upon Uzzah; and he called the name of the place Perez-uzzah until this day. ^6:9And David was afraid of Jehovah that day, and said, “How shall the Ark of Jehovah come to me?” ^6:10So David would not bring the Ark of Jehovah to him into the city of David, but David carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

^6:11And the Ark of Jehovah continued in the house of Obed-edom the Gittite three months; and Jehovah blessed Obed-edom, and all his household.

¶Opposite   David successfully brought the Ark of God into the Tabernacle in the city of David (2 Sam 6:12 - 23)

^6:12And it was told king David, saying, “Jehovah has blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that belongs to him, because of the Ark of God.” So David went and brought up the Ark of God from the house of Obed-edom into the city of David with gladness. ^6:13And it was so, that when they that carried the Ark of Jehovah had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fattened calves. ^6:14And David danced before Jehovah with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod. ^6:15So David and all the house of Israel brought up the Ark of Jehovah with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

^6:16And as the Ark of Jehovah came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before Jehovah; and she despised him in her heart.

^6:17And they brought in the Ark of Jehovah, and set it in his place, in the midst of the Tabernacle that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Jehovah.

^6:18And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the Name of Jehovah of hosts. ^6:19And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to everyone a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a cake of raisins. So all the people departed, everyone to his house.

^6:20Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the maidservants of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!” ^6:21And David said to Michal, “It was before Jehovah, which chose me before your father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of Jehovah, over Israel; therefore will I play before Jehovah. ^6:22And I will be even more vile than this, and will be base in my own sight; and of the maidservants which you have spoken, of them shall I be had in honor.” ^6:23Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child until the day of her death.

^7:1And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and Jehovah had given him rest round about from all his enemies, ^7:2that the king said to Nathan the prophet, “See now, I dwell in a house of cedar; but the Ark of God dwells within curtains.” ^7:3And Nathan said to the king, “Go; do all that is in your heart: for Jehovah is with you.”

^7:4And it came to pass that night, that the Word of Jehovah came to Nathan, saying, ^7:5“Go and tell my servant David: ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘Shall you build a house for me to dwell in? ^7:6Whereas I have not dwelt in any house since the time that I brought up the children of Israel out of Egypt, even until this day; but I have walked in a tent and in a Tabernacle. ^7:7In all the places where I have walked with all the children of Israel, did I speak a word with any of the tribes of Israel, whom I commanded to feed my people Israel, saying, ‘Why do you not build me a house of cedar?’’

^7:8“Now therefore so shall you say to my servant David: ‘Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘I took you from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel; ^7:9and I was with you wheresoever you went, and have cut off all your enemies out of your sight; and I have made you a great name, like the name of the great men that are in the earth. ^7:10Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel; and I will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them anymore, as before, ^7:11and as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused you to rest from all your enemies. Also Jehovah tells you that he will make you a house. ^7:12And when your days are fulfilled, and you shall sleep with your fathers, I will set up your seed after you, which shall proceed out of your bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. ^7:13He shall build a House for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. ^7:14I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commits iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men; ^7:15but my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before you. ^7:16And your house and your kingdom shall be established forever before you: your throne shall be established forever.’’” ^7:17According to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak to David.

^7:18Then king David went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, “Who am I, O Lord Jehovah? And what is my house, that you have brought me to this time? ^7:19And this was yet a small thing in your sight, O Lord Jehovah; but you have spoken also of your servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord Jehovah? ^7:20And what can David say more to you? For you, Lord Jehovah, know your servant. ^7:21For your Word’s sake, and according to your own heart, have you done all these great things, to make your servant know them. ^7:22Therefore you are great, O Jehovah God: for there is no one like you; neither is there any God beside you, according to all that we have heard with our ears. ^7:23And what one nation in the earth is like your people, even like Israel, whom God went to redeem for a people to himself; ^7:24and to make him a Name, and to do for you great and dreadful things, for your land, before your people, which you redeemed to you from Egypt, from the nations and their gods? For you have confirmed to yourself your people Israel to be a people to you forever; and you, Jehovah, have become their God.

^7:25And now, O Jehovah God, the Word that you have spoken concerning your servant, and concerning his house, establish it forever, and do as you have said. ^7:26And let your Name be magnified forever, saying, ‘Jehovah of hosts is the God over Israel’. And let the house of your servant David be established before you: ^7:27for you, O Jehovah of hosts, God of Israel, have revealed to your servant, saying, ‘I will build you a house’; therefore has your servant found in his heart to pray this prayer to you. ^7:28And now, O Lord Jehovah, you are the true God; and your words are true; and you have promised this goodness to your servant. ^7:29Therefore now let it please you to bless the house of your servant, that it may continue forever before you. For you, O Lord Jehovah, have spoken it; and with your blessing let the house of your servant be blessed forever.”

^8:1And after this it came to pass, that David smote the Philistines, and subdued them; and David took Metheg-ammah out of the hand of the Philistines.

^8:3David also smote Hadadezer, the son of Rehob, king of Zobah, as he went to recover his border at the river Euphrates. ^8:4And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven hundred horsemen, and twenty thousand soldiers; and David hocked all the chariot horses, but reserved one hundred chariots of them. ^8:5And when the Syrians of Damascus came to assist Hadadezer king of Zobah, David slew of the Syrians twenty-two thousand men. ^8:6Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became servants to David, and brought gifts. And Jehovah preserved David wheresoever he went. ^8:7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem. ^8:8And from Betah, and from Berothai, cities of Hadadezer, king David took exceedingly much bronze.

^8:9When Toi king of Hamath heard that David had smitten all the army of Hadadezer, ^8:10then Toi sent Joram his son to king David, to greet him, and to bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer, and smitten him: for Hadadezer was at war with Toi. And Joram brought with him vessels of silver, and vessels of gold, and vessels of bronze, ^8:11which also king David dedicated to Jehovah, with the silver and gold that he had dedicated of all nations which he subdued: ^8:12of Syria, and of Moab, and of the children of Ammon, and of the Philistines, and of Amalek, and of the plunder of Hadadezer, son of Rehob, king of Zobah.

^8:13And David obtained a reputation when he returned from smiting of the Syrians in the valley of salt, being eighteen thousand men. ^8:14And he put garrisons in Edom; throughout all Edom did he put garrisons; and all they of Edom became David’s servants. And Jehovah preserved David wheresoever he went.

^9:1And David said, “Is there yet any that is left of the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan’s sake?” ^9:2And there was a servant of the house of Saul whose name was Ziba. And when they had called him to David, the king said to him, “Are you Ziba?” And he said, “Your servant is he.” ^9:3And the king said, “Is there not yet any of the house of Saul, that I may show the kindness of God to him?” And Ziba said to the king, “Jonathan still has a son, who is lame on his feet.” ^9:4And the king said to him, “Where is he?” And Ziba said to the king, “Behold, he is in the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, in Lo-debar.”

^9:5Then king David sent, and brought him out of the house of Machir, the son of Ammiel, from Lo-debar. ^9:6Now when Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan, the son of Saul, came to David, he fell on his face, and prostrated himself. And David said, “Mephibosheth.” And he answered, “Behold your servant!” ^9:7And David said to him, “Fear not: for I will surely show you kindness for Jonathan your father’s sake, and will restore you all the land of Saul your father; and you shall eat bread at my table continually.” ^9:8And he bowed himself, and said, “What is your servant, that you should look upon such a dead dog as I?”

^9:9Then the king called to Ziba, Saul’s servant, and said to him, “I have given to your master’s son all that pertained to Saul and to all his house. ^9:10You therefore, and your sons, and your servants, shall farm the land for him; and you shall bring in the harvest, that your master’s son may have food to eat; but Mephibosheth your master’s son shall eat bread always at my table.” Now Ziba had fifteen sons and twenty servants. ^9:11Then Ziba said to the king, “According to all that my lord the king has commanded his servant, so shall your servant do.” “As for Mephibosheth,” said the king, “he shall eat at my table, as one of the king’s sons.” ^9:12And Mephibosheth had a young son, whose name was Micah. And all that dwelt in the house of Ziba were servants to Mephibosheth. ^9:13So Mephibosheth dwelt in Jerusalem: for he ate continually at the king’s table; and was lame on both his feet.

Has not David rather sent his servants to you, to search the city, and to spy it out, and to overthrow it?” ^10:4Therefore Hanun took David’s servants, and shaved off half of their beards, and cut off their garments in the middle, even to their buttocks, and sent them away. ^10:5When they told it to David, he sent to meet them, because the men were greatly ashamed; and the king said, “Wait at Jericho until your beards are grown, and then return.”

^10:6And when the children of Ammon saw that they stunk before David, the children of Ammon sent and hired the Syrians of Beth-rehob, and the Syrians of Zoba, twenty thousand soldiers, and of king Maacah a thousand men, and of Ish-tob twelve thousand men.

^10:7And when David heard of it, he sent Joab, and all the army of the mighty men. ^10:8And the children of Ammon came out, and put the battle in array at the entering in of the gate; and the Syrians of Zoba, and of Rehob, and Ish-tob, and Maacah, were by themselves in the field.

^10:9When Joab saw that the front of the battle was against him before and behind, he chose of all the choice men of Israel, and put them in array against the Syrians; ^10:10and the rest of the people he delivered into the hand of Abishai his brother, that he might put them in array against the children of Ammon. ^10:11And he said, “If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the children of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will come and help you. ^10:12Be of good courage, and let us play the men for our people, and for the cities of our God; and Jehovah do that which seems him good.” ^10:13And Joab drew near, and the people that were with him, to the battle against the Syrians; and they fled before him. ^10:14And when the children of Ammon saw that the Syrians had fled, then they also fled before Abishai, and entered into the city.

^10:17And when it was told David, he gathered all Israel together, and passed over Jordan, and came to Helam. And the Syrians set themselves in array against David, and fought with him.

^10:18And the Syrians fled before Israel; and David slew the men of seven hundred chariots of the Syrians, and forty thousand horsemen, and smote Shobach the captain of their army, who died there.

^10:19And when all the kings that were servants to Hadarezer saw that they were defeated before Israel, they made peace with Israel, and served them. So the Syrians were afraid to help the children of Ammon anymore.

Y Jehová respondió a David, “Ve: porque ciertamente entregaré los filisteos en tus manos”.

^5:20Y vino David a Baal-perazim, y allí los venció David, y dijo, “Irrumpió Jehová contra mis enemigos delante de mí, como rompimiento de aguas”. Y por esto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Baal-perazim. ^5:21Y dejaron allí sus ídolos, y David y sus hombres los quemaron.

^5:22Y los filisteos volvieron a subir, y se extendieron en el valle de Refaim.

^5:23Y consultando David a Jehová, él le respondió, “No subas; sino rodéalos, y vendrás a ellos por delante de los árboles de moras. ^5:24Y cuando oyeres un estruendo que irá por las copas de los árboles de moras, entonces te moverás: porque Jehová saldrá delante de ti para herir al ejército de los filisteos”.

^5:25Y David lo hizo así, como Jehová se lo había mandado; e hirió a los filisteos desde Gabaa hasta llegar a Gezer.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Rey David fue bendecido por Jehová: tanto en casa como en el campo de batalla (2 Sam 6:1 - 9:13)

¶Lo opuesto   David fracasó para traer el Arca de Dios a Jerusalén debido a un error (2 Sam 6:1 - 11)

^6:1Y David volvió a juntar a todos los hombres escogidos de Israel, treinta mil. ^6:2Y se levantó David, y fue con todo el pueblo que tenía consigo, de Baala de Judá, para hacer pasar de allí el Arca de Dios, sobre la cual era invocado el Nombre de Jehová de los ejércitos, que mora entre los querubines.

^6:3Y pusieron el Arca de Dios sobre un carro nuevo, y la llevaron de la casa de Abinadab, que estaba en Gabaa; y Uza y Ahío, hijos de Abinadab, guiaban el carro nuevo. ^6:4Y cuando lo llevaban de la casa de Abinadab que estaba en Gabaa, con el Arca de Dios, Ahío iba delante del arca. ^6:5Y David y toda la casa de Israel danzaban delante de Jehová con toda clase de instrumentos de madera de abeto; con arpas, salterios, panderos, flautas y címbalos.

^6:6Y cuando llegaron a la era de Nacón, Uza extendió su mano al Arca de Dios, y la sostuvo: porque los bueyes tropezaron. ^6:7Y el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Uza, y lo hirió allí Dios por su atrevimiento, y cayó allí muerto junto al Arca de Dios.

^6:8Y David se disgustó por haber herido Jehová a Uza, y llamó aquel lugar Pérez-uza, hasta hoy. ^6:9Y temiendo David a Jehová aquel día, dijo, “¿Cómo ha de venir a mí el Arca de Jehová?”. ^6:10Así que David no quiso traer a sí el Arca de Jehová a la ciudad de David; pero la llevó David a casa de Obed-edom Geteo.

^6:11Y estuvo el Arca de Jehová en casa de Obed-edom Geteo tres meses; y bendijo Jehová a Obed-edom y a toda su casa.

¶Lo opuesto   David trajo con éxito el Arca de Dios al Tabernáculo dentro la ciudad de David (2 Sam 6:12 - 23)

^6:12Y fue dado aviso al rey David, diciendo, Jehová ha bendecido la casa de Obed-edom, y todo lo que tiene, a causa del Arca de Dios. Entonces David fue, y trajo con alegría el Arca de Dios de casa de Obed-edom a la ciudad de David. ^6:13Y cuando los que llevaban el Arca de Dios habían andado seis pasos, él sacrificó un buey y un carnero grueso. ^6:14Y David danzaba con toda su fuerza delante de Jehová; y David estaba vestido con un efod de lino. ^6:15Así David y toda la casa de Israel traían el Arca de Jehová con júbilo y sonido de trompeta.

^6:16Y cuando el Arca de Jehová llegó a la ciudad de David, aconteció que Mical hija de Saúl miró desde una ventana, y vio al rey David saltando y danzando delante de Jehová; y le menospreció en su corazón.

^6:17Metieron, pues, el Arca de Jehová, y la pusieron en su lugar en medio de una tienda que David le había levantado; y sacrificó David holocaustos y ofrendas de paz delante de Jehová.

^6:18Y cuando David hubo acabado de ofrecer los holocaustos y ofrendas de paz, bendijo al pueblo en el Nombre de Jehová de los ejércitos. ^6:19Y repartió a todo el pueblo, y a toda la multitud de Israel, así a hombres como a mujeres, a cada uno una torta de pan, y un pedazo de carne, y un frasco de vino. Y se fue todo el pueblo, cada uno a su casa.

^6:20Volvió luego David para bendecir su casa; y saliendo Mical a recibir a David, dijo, “¡Cuán honrado ha sido hoy el rey de Israel, descubriéndose hoy delante de las criadas de sus siervos, como se descubre un cualquiera!”. ^6:21Entonces David respondió a Mical, “Fue delante de Jehová, quien me eligió en lugar de tu padre y de toda su casa, para constituirme por príncipe sobre el pueblo de Jehová, sobre Israel. Por tanto, danzaré delante de Jehová. ^6:22Y aun me haré más vil que esta vez, y seré bajo a mis propios ojos; y delante de las criadas que has mencionado, delante de ellas seré honrado”. ^6:23Por tanto Mical hija de Saúl nunca tuvo hijos hasta el día de su muerte.

¶El complemento   Jehová le prometió a David que su trono duraría para siempre (2 Sam 7:1 - 29)

^7:1Y aconteció que cuando ya el rey habitaba en su casa, después que Jehová le había dado reposo de todos sus enemigos en derredor, ^7:2dijo el rey al Profeta Natán, “Mira ahora, yo moro en edificios de cedro, y el Arca de Dios está entre cortinas”. ^7:3Y Natán dijo al rey, “Anda, y haz todo lo que está en tu corazón: porque Jehová es contigo”.

^7:4Y aconteció aquella noche, que vino Palabra de Jehová a Natán, diciendo, ^7:5“Ve y di a mi siervo David, ‘Así ha dicho Jehová, ‘¿Tú me has de edificar casa en que yo more? ^7:6Ciertamente no he habitado en casas desde el día que saqué a los hijos de Israel de Egipto hasta hoy, sino que he andado en tienda y en Tabernáculo. ^7:7Y en todo cuanto he andado con todos los hijos de Israel, ¿acaso he hablado palabra con alguna de las tribus de Israel, a quien haya mandado que apaciente mi pueblo de Israel, diciendo, ‘¿Por qué no me habéis edificado casa de cedro?’’’

^7:8“Ahora, pues, dirás así a mi siervo David: ‘Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘Yo te tomé del redil, de detrás de las ovejas, para que fueses príncipe sobre mi pueblo, sobre Israel; ^7:9y he estado contigo por dondequiera que has andado, y he talado de delante de ti a todos tus enemigos, y he engrandecido tu nombre, como el nombre de los grandes que hay en la tierra. ^7:10Además yo fijaré lugar a mi pueblo Israel, y lo plantaré, para que habite en su lugar y nunca más sea removido, ni los inicuos le aflijan más, como antes, ^7:11desde el día en que puse jueces sobre mi pueblo Israel. Y a ti te he dado descanso de todos tus enemigos. Asimismo Jehová te hace saber, que él te hará casa. ^7:12Y cuando tus días fueren cumplidos, y durmieres con tus padres, yo estableceré tu simiente después de ti, la cual procederá de tus entrañas, y afirmaré su reino. ^7:13Él edificará casa a mi Nombre, y yo afirmaré para siempre el trono de su reino. ^7:14Yo le seré a él padre, y él me será a mí hijo. Y si él hiciere mal, yo le castigaré con vara de hombres, y con azotes de hijos de hombres. ^7:15Pero mi misericordia no se apartará de él, como la aparté de Saúl, al cual quité de delante de ti. ^7:16Y será afirmada tu casa y tu reino para siempre delante de tu rostro; y tu trono será estable eternamente’’”. ^7:17Conforme a todas estas palabras, y conforme a toda esta visión, así habló Natán a David.

^7:18Y entró el rey David, y se puso delante de Jehová, y dijo, “Señor Jehová, ¿Quién soy yo, y qué es mi casa, para que tú me traigas hasta aquí? ^7:19Y aun te ha parecido poco esto, Señor Jehová, pues que también has hablado de la casa de tu siervo en lo por venir. ¿Es así el proceder del hombre, Señor Jehová? ^7:20¿Y qué más puede añadir David hablando contigo? Pues tú conoces a tu siervo, Señor Jehová. ^7:21Todas estas grandezas has obrado por tu Palabra y conforme a tu corazón, haciéndolas saber a tu siervo. ^7:22Por tanto, tú te has engrandecido, Jehová Dios; por cuanto no hay como tú, ni hay Dios fuera de ti, conforme a todo lo que hemos oído con nuestros oídos. ^7:23¿Y qué nación hay en la tierra como tu pueblo Israel, al cual Dios fue y redimió por pueblo para sí, y para darle Nombre, y para hacer por ustedes grandes y temibles obras, por tu tierra, por amor de tu pueblo que tú redimiste de Egipto, de las naciones y de sus dioses? ^7:24Porque tú te has confirmado a tu pueblo Israel por pueblo tuyo para siempre; y tú, oh Jehová, fuiste a ellos por Dios.

^7:25Ahora pues, Jehová Dios, la Palabra que has hablado sobre tu siervo y sobre su casa, confírmala para siempre, y haz conforme a lo que has dicho. ^7:26Que sea engrandecido tu Nombre para siempre, y se diga, ‘Jehová de los ejércitos es Dios sobre Israel’; y que la casa de tu siervo David sea firme delante de ti: ^7:27porque tú, Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, revelaste al oído de tu siervo, diciendo, ‘Yo te edificaré casa’. Por esto tu siervo ha hallado en su corazón para hacer delante de ti esta súplica. ^7:28Ahora pues, Jehová Dios, tú eres Dios, y tus palabras serán firmes, ya que has dicho a tu siervo este bien. ^7:29Y ahora, ten a bien bendecir la casa de tu siervo, para que permanezca para siempre delante de ti: porque tú, Jehová Dios, lo has dicho, y con tu bendición será bendita la casa de tu siervo para siempre”.

¶El complemento   Jehová le dio a David la victoria sobre cada ejército en cada campo de batalla (2 Sam 8:1 - 14)

^8:1Después de esto, aconteció que David hirió a los filisteos y los sometió; y tomó David a Metegama de mano de los filisteos.

^8:2Hirió también a los de Moab, y los midió con cordel, haciéndolos echar por tierra; y midió con dos cordeles para muerte, y un cordel entero para vida; y los moabitas vinieron a ser siervos de David, y le traían tributos.

^8:3Asimismo hirió David a Hadad-ezer hijo de Rehob, rey de Soba, yendo él a recuperar su término hasta el río Éufrates. ^8:4Y les tomó David mil carros y setecientos hombres de a caballo y veinte mil hombres de a pie; y desjarretó David los caballos de todos los carros, excepto los de cien carros que dejó. ^8:5Y vinieron los Sirios de Damasco a dar ayuda a Hadad-ezer rey de Soba; y David hirió de los Sirios a veintidós mil hombres. ^8:6Puso luego David guarnición en Siria de Damasco, y los Sirios fueron hechos siervos de David, sujetos a tributo. Y Jehová guardó a David por dondequiera que él fue. ^8:7Y tomó David los escudos de oro que traían los siervos de Hadad-ezer, y los llevó a Jerusalén. ^8:8Asimismo de Beta y de Berotai, ciudades de Hadad-ezer, tomó el rey David gran cantidad de bronce.

^8:9Entonces oyendo Toi, rey de Hamat, que David había herido todo el ejército de Hadad-ezer, ^8:10envió Toi a Joram su hijo al rey David, a saludarle pacíficamente y a bendecirle: porque había peleado con Hadad-ezer y lo había vencido: porque Toi era enemigo de Hadad-ezer. Y Joram trajo en su mano vasos de plata, y vasos de oro, y de bronce; ^8:11los cuales el rey David dedicó a Jehová, con la plata y el oro que tenía dedicado de todas las naciones que había sometido: ^8:12de Siria, de Moab, de los hijos de Amón, de los filisteos, de Amalec, y del despojo de Hadad-ezer hijo de Rehob, rey de Soba.

^8:13Y David ganó fama cuando él regresó desde golpeando a Aram en el valle de la Sal: dieciocho mil hombres. ^8:14Y puso guarnición en Edom, por toda Edom puso guarnición; y todos los edomitas fueron siervos de David. Y Jehová guardó a David por dondequiera que él fue.

¶Único   David dio a Mefibóset los derechos sobre todas las propiedades de Saúl y a comer pan en su mesa (2 Sam 8:15 - 9:13)

^8:15Y reinó David sobre todo Israel; y David administraba derecho y justicia a todo su pueblo.

^8:16Y Joab hijo de Sarvia era general de su ejército; y Josafat hijo de Ahilud, el cronista; ^8:17y Sadoc hijo de Ahitob, y Ahimelec hijo de Abiatar, eran sacerdotes; y Seraías era escriba; ^8:18y Benaía hijo de Joiada, era sobre los cereteos y peleteos; y los hijos de David eran los príncipes.

^9:1Y dijo David, “¿Ha quedado alguno de la casa de Saúl, a quien haga yo misericordia por amor de Jonatán?”. ^9:2Y había un siervo de la casa de Saúl, que se llamaba Siba. Y cuando le llamaron para que viniese a David, el rey le dijo, “¿Eres tú Siba?”. Y él respondió, “Tu siervo”. ^9:3Y el rey dijo, “¿No ha quedado nadie de la casa de Saúl, a quien haga yo misericordia de Dios?”. Y Siba respondió al rey, “Aún ha quedado un hijo de Jonatán, lisiado de los pies”. ^9:4Entonces el rey le dijo, “¿Y ése dónde está?”. Y Siba respondió al rey, “He aquí, está en casa de Maquir hijo de Amiel, en Lodebar”.

^9:5Y envió el rey David, y lo tomó de casa de Maquir hijo de Amiel, de Lodebar. ^9:6Y Mefiboset, hijo de Jonatán hijo de Saúl, vino a David, y se postró sobre su rostro e hizo reverencia. Y dijo David, “Mefiboset”. Y él respondió, “¡He aquí tu siervo!”. ^9:7Y le dijo David, “No tengas temor: porque yo a la verdad haré contigo misericordia por amor de Jonatán tu padre, y te devolveré todas las tierras de Saúl tu padre; y tú comerás pan a mi mesa, siempre”. ^9:8Y él inclinándose, dijo, “¿Quién es tu siervo, para que mires a un perro muerto como yo?”.

^9:9Entonces el rey llamó a Siba, siervo de Saúl, y le dijo, “Todo lo que fue de Saúl y de toda su casa, yo lo he dado al hijo de tu señor. ^9:10Tú, pues, le labrarás las tierras, tú con tus hijos y tus siervos, y tú almacenarás los frutos, para que el hijo de tu señor tenga pan para comer, y Mefiboset el hijo de tu señor comerá siempre pan a mi mesa”. Y Siba tenía quince hijos y veinte siervos. ^9:11Y respondió Siba al rey, “Conforme a todo lo que ha mandado mi señor el rey a su siervo, así lo hará tu siervo”. “Mefiboset,” dijo el rey, “comerá a mi mesa, como uno de los hijos del rey”. ^9:12Y tenía Mefiboset un hijo pequeño, que se llamaba Micaías. Y toda la familia de la casa de Siba eran siervos de Mefiboset. ^9:13Y moraba Mefiboset en Jerusalén: porque comía siempre a la mesa del rey; y era cojo de ambos pies.

§Único   Conclusión: Los sirios hicieron dos intentos para derrotar a Israel en el campo de batalla, pero fracasaron (2 Sam 10:1 - 19)

¶El complemento   El ejército de los sirios huyó desde Joab y el ejército de los poderosos (2 Sam 10:1 - 14a)

^10:1Después de esto, aconteció que murió el rey de los hijos de Amón, y reinó en lugar suyo Hanún su hijo. ^10:2Y dijo David, “Yo haré misericordia con Hanún hijo de Nahas, como su padre la hizo conmigo”. Y envió David a sus siervos para consolarlo por su padre. Y llegados los siervos de David a la tierra de los hijos de Amón.

^10:3Y los príncipes de los hijos de Amón dijeron a Hanún su señor, “¿Te parece que por honrar David a tu padre te ha enviado consoladores? ¿No ha enviado David sus siervos a ti por reconocer e inspeccionar la ciudad, para destruirla?”. ^10:4Entonces Hanún tomó los siervos de David, y les rapó la mitad de la barba, y les cortó las vestiduras por la mitad hasta las nalgas, y los despidió. ^10:5Lo cual cuando fue hecho saber a David, envió a encontrarles: porque estaban en extremo avergonzados; y el rey mandó a decirles, “Quedaos en Jericó hasta que os vuelva a crecer la barba, y entonces regresad”.

^10:6Y viendo los hijos de Amón que se habían hecho odiosos a David, enviaron los hijos de Amón y tomaron a sueldo a los Sirios de la casa de Rehob, y a los Sirios de Soba, veinte mil hombres de a pie; y del rey de Maaca mil hombres, y de Istob doce mil hombres.

^10:7Y cuando lo oyó David, envió a Joab con todo el ejército de los valientes. ^10:8Y saliendo los hijos de Amón, ordenaron sus escuadrones a la entrada de la puerta; pero los Sirios de Soba, y de Rehob, y de Istob, y de Maaca, estaban aparte en el campo.

^10:9Viendo, pues, Joab que había escuadrones delante y detrás de él, entresacó de todos los escogidos de Israel, y se puso en orden de batalla contra los Sirios. ^10:10Entregó luego el resto del pueblo en mano de Abisai su hermano, y lo puso en orden para enfrentar a los hijos de Amón. ^10:11Y dijo, “Si los Sirios me fueren superiores, tú me ayudarás; y si los hijos de Amón pudieren más que tú, yo te daré ayuda. ^10:12Esfuérzate y mostremos hombría, por nuestro pueblo y por las ciudades de nuestro Dios; y que haga Jehová lo que bien le pareciere”. ^10:13Y se acercó Joab, y el pueblo que con él estaba, para pelear con los Sirios; pero ellos huyeron delante de él. ^10:14Entonces los hijos de Amón, viendo que los Sirios habían huido, huyeron también ellos delante de Abisai, y entraron en la ciudad.

¶El complemento   El ejército de los sirios huyó desde el David y el ejército de todo Israel (2 Sam 10:14b - 19)

Y volvió Joab desde los hijos de Amón, y vino a Jerusalén.

^10:15Pero viendo los Sirios que habían caído delante de Israel, se volvieron a reunir. ^10:16Y envió Hadad-ezer, y sacó a los Sirios que estaban al otro lado del río, los cuales vinieron a Helam, llevando por jefe a Sobac general del ejército de Hadad-ezer.

^10:17Y cuando fue dado aviso a David, reunió a todo Israel, y pasando el Jordán vino a Helam. Y los Sirios se pusieron en orden de batalla contra David, y pelearon contra él.

^10:18Pero los Sirios huyeron delante de Israel; e hirió David de los Sirios la gente de setecientos carros, y cuarenta mil hombres de a caballo; hirió también a Sobac general del ejército, y murió allí.

^10:19Viendo, pues, todos los reyes que asistían a Hadad-ezer que habían sido derrotados delante de Israel, hicieron paz con Israel y le sirvieron; y de allí en adelante temieron los Sirios de socorrer a los hijos de Amón.
