Samuel, Chapter 2.5: The mighty God and mighty men of David (2 Sam 21:15 - 24:25)

Then the men of David swore to him, saying, “You shall no longer go out to battle with us, that you quench not the light of Israel.”

^21:20And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had six fingers on every hand, and six toes on every foot: twenty-four in number; and he also was born to the giant.

^21:21And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimea the brother of David slew him.

^21:22These four were born to the giant in Gath; and they fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

^22:5“When the waves of death surrounded me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid, ^22:6the sorrows of Hell surrounded me, and the snares of death went before me, ^22:7in my distress I called upon Jehovah, and cried to my God. And he heard my voice out of his Temple; and my cry entered into his ears. ^22:8Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of Heaven moved and shook, because he was angry. ^22:9A smoke went up out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured; coals were kindled by it. ^22:10He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet. ^22:11And he rode upon a cherub, and flew; and he was seen upon the wings of the wind. ^22:12And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark water, and thick clouds of the skies. ^22:13Through the brightness before him were coals of fire kindled. ^22:14Jehovah thundered from Heaven, and the most High uttered his voice. ^22:15And he sent out arrows, and scattered them; lightning, and put them to flight. ^22:16And the channels of the sea appeared, the foundations of the world were discovered, at the rebuking of Jehovah, at the blast of the breath of his nostrils. ^22:17He sent from above; he took me; he drew me out of many waters; ^22:18he delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me. ^22:19They went before me in the day of my calamity; but Jehovah was my stay. ^22:20He brought me forth also into a large place. He delivered me, because he delighted in me.

^22:21“Jehovah rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands has he repaid me. ^22:22For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, and have not wickedly left my God: ^22:23for all his Judgments were before me; and as for his Statutes, I did not depart from them. ^22:24I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from my iniquity. ^22:25Therefore Jehovah has recompensed me according to my righteousness: according to my cleanness in his eyesight. ^22:26With the merciful you will show yourself merciful, and with the upright man you will show yourself upright. ^22:27With the pure you will show yourself pure; and with the perverse you will show yourself unsavory. ^22:28And you will deliver the afflicted people; but your eyes are upon the arrogant, that you may bring them down. ^22:29For you are my lamp, O Jehovah; and Jehovah will lighten my darkness: ^22:30for by you have I run through a troop; by my God have I leapt over a wall.”

^22:31“As for God, his way is perfect; the Word of Jehovah is tested: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. ^22:32For who is the true God, except Jehovah? And who is a Rock except our God? ^22:33God is my strength and power; and he makes my way perfect. ^22:34He makes my feet like hinds’ feet, and sets me upon my high places. ^22:35He teaches my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by my arms. ^22:36You have also given me the shield of your salvation; and your gentleness has made me great. ^22:37You have enlarged my steps under me, so that my feet did not slip. ^22:38I have pursued my enemies, and destroyed them; and did not turn again until I had consumed them. ^22:39And I have consumed them and wounded them, so that they could not arise; moreover, they are fallen under my feet: ^22:40for you have girded me with strength to battle; them that rose up against me have you subdued under me. ^22:41You have also given me the necks of my enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me. ^22:42They looked, but there was none to save; even to Jehovah, but he did not answer them. ^22:43Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I stamped them as the mud of the street, and spread them abroad. ^22:44You have also delivered me from the strivings of my people; you have kept me to be head of the heathen; a people which I did not know shall serve me. ^22:45Strangers shall submit themselves to me; as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient to me. ^22:46Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

^22:47“Jehovah lives; and blessed is my Rock; and exalted is the God of the rock of my salvation. ^22:48It is God that avenges me, and that brings down the people under me, ^22:49and that brings me forth from my enemies. You also have lifted me up on high above them that rose up against me; you have delivered me from the violent man. ^22:50Therefore will I give thanks to you, O Jehovah, among the heathen; and I will sing praises to your Name. ^22:51He is the tower of salvation for his king, and shows mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed forevermore.”

¶Opposite   Jehovah had made an everlasting Covenant with David (2 Sam 23:1 - 23:7)

^23:1Now these are the last words of David.

David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel said, ^23:2“The Spirit of Jehovah spoke by me; and his Word was in my tongue.”

^23:3“The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spoke to me, ‘He that rules over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. ^23:4And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun is rising, even a morning without clouds: as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.’

^23:5“Although my house is not so with God, yet he has made with me an everlasting Covenant, ordered in all things, and certain: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he does not make it grow.

^23:6“But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands; ^23:7but the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.”

^23:8These are the names of the mighty men whom David had: the Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains: the same was Adino the Eznite. He lifted up his spear against eight hundred men, whom he slew at one time.

^23:9And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David.

When they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel went away, ^23:10he arose, and smote the Philistines until his hand was weary, and his hand clung to the sword; and Jehovah wrought a great victory that day. And the people returned after him only to plunder.

^23:11And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentils; and the people fled from the Philistines.

^23:12But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah wrought a great victory.

^23:13And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time to the cave of Adullam; and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim. ^23:14And David was then in a hold, and the garrison of the Philistines was then in Bethlehem.

^23:15And David longed, and said, “Oh that one would give me drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, which is by the gate!”

^23:16And the three mighty men broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David.

Nevertheless he would not drink of it, but poured it out to Jehovah; ^23:17and he said, “Be it far from me, O Jehovah, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives?” Therefore he would not drink it.

These things did these three mighty men.

^23:18And Abishai, the brother of Joab, the son of Zeruiah, was chief among three. And he lifted up his spear against three hundred men, and slew them; and he had the name among three.

^23:19Was he not most honorable of three? Therefore he was their captain; nevertheless he did not attain to the first three.

^23:20And Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man, of Kabzeel, who had done many acts: he slew two lion-like men of Moab. He also went down and slew a lion in the midst of a pit in time of snow. ^23:21And he slew an Egyptian, a striking man; and the Egyptian had a spear in his hand; but he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and slew him with his own spear.

^23:22These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among three mighty men. ^23:23He was more honorable than the thirty, but he did not attain to the first three; and David set him over his guard.

^23:24Asahel the brother of Joab was one of the thirty. Also Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, ^23:25Shammah the Harodite, Elika the Harodite, ^23:26Helez the Paltite, Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, ^23:27Abiezer the Anethothite, Mebunnai the Hushathite, ^23:28Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite, ^23:29Heleb the son of Baanah, a Netophathite, Ittai the son of Ribai out of Gibeah of the children of Benjamin, ^23:30Benaiah the Pirathonite, Hiddai of the brooks of Gaash, ^23:31Abi-albon the Arbathite, Azmaveth the Barhumite, ^23:32Eliahba the Shaalbonite, of the sons of Jashen, Jonathan, ^23:33Shammah the Hararite, Ahiam the son of Sharar the Hararite, ^23:34Eliphelet the son of Ahasbai, the son of the Maachathite, Eliam the son of Ahithophel the Gilonite, ^23:35Hezrai the Carmelite, Paarai the Arbite, ^23:36Igal the son of Nathan of Zobah, Bani the Gadite, ^23:37Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Beerothite, armorbearer to Joab the son of Zeruiah, ^23:38Ira an Ithrite, Gareb an Ithrite, ^23:39and Uriah the Hittite. There were thirty-seven in all.

And he moved David against them to say, “Go, count the people of Israel and Judah.” ^24:2For the king said to Joab the captain of the army, which was with him, “Go now through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and count the people, that I may know the number of the people.” ^24:3And Joab said to the king, “Now Jehovah your God add to the people (however many they are) a hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it; but why does my lord the king delight in this thing?”

^24:4Notwithstanding the king’s word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the army. And Joab and the captains of the army went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel. ^24:5And they passed over Jordan, and pitched in Aroer, on the right side of the city that lies in the midst of the river of Gad, and toward Jazer. ^24:6Then they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and about to Zidon, ^24:7and came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hibites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, even to Beer-sheba. ^24:8So when they had gone through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days. ^24:9And Joab gave the total of the number of the people to the king; and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

^24:10And David’s heart smote him after that he had counted the people. And David said to Jehovah, “I have sinned greatly in what I have done. And now, please, O Jehovah, take away the iniquity of your servant: for I have done very foolishly.”

^24:11For when David was up in the morning, the Word of Jehovah came to the prophet Gad, David’s Seer, saying, ^24:12“Go and say to David, ‘Thus says Jehovah: I offer you three things. Choose one of them, that I may do it to you.’” ^24:13So Gad came to David; and he told him, and said to him, “‘Shall seven years of famine come to you in your land? Or will you flee three months before your enemies, while they pursue you? Or that there be three days’ disease in your land?’ Now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.” ^24:14And David said to Gad, “I am in a great predicament. Let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah: for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.” ^24:15So Jehovah sent a plague upon Israel from the morning even until the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

^24:16And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil; and said to the angel that destroyed the people, “It is enough: stay now your hand.” And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing place of Araunah the Jebusite. ^24:17And David spoke to Jehovah when he saw the angel that smote the people; and he said, “See, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly. But these sheep, what have they done? Please, let your hand be against me, and against my father’s house.”

^24:20And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him; and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground. ^24:21And Araunah said, “Why has my lord the king come to his servant?” And David said, “To buy the threshingfloor of you, to build an altar to Jehovah, that the plague may be restrained from the people.”

^24:22And Araunah said to David, “Let my lord the king take and offer up what seems good to him; behold, here are oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.” ^24:23All these things did Araunah, as a king, give to the king.

And Araunah said to the king, “Jehovah your God accept you.” ^24:24And the king said to Araunah, “No; but I will surely buy it of you at a price; neither will I offer burnt offerings to Jehovah my God of that which costs me nothing.” So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

^24:25And David built there an altar to Jehovah, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was restrained from Israel.

^22:31“En cuanto a Dios, perfecto es su camino; purificada es la Palabra de Jehová; escudo es a todos los que en él esperan. ^22:32Porque ¿quién es Dios, sino Jehová? ¿O quién es la Roca, sino nuestro Dios? ^22:33Dios es mi fortaleza y mi poder; y él hace perfecto mi camino; ^22:34él hace mis pies como de ciervas, y me hace estar firme sobre mis alturas. ^22:35Él adiestra mis manos para la batalla, de manera que se doble el arco de acero con mis brazos. ^22:36Tú me diste asimismo el escudo de tu salvación, y tu benignidad me ha engrandecido. ^22:37Tú ensanchaste mis pasos debajo de mí, para que mis pies no resbalasen. ^22:38Perseguí a mis enemigos, y los quebranté; y no me volví hasta que los acabé. ^22:39Los consumí, y los herí, y no se levantarán; han caído debajo de mis pies. ^22:40Pues tú me ceñiste de fuerzas para la batalla, y subyugaste debajo de mí los que contra mí se levantaron. ^22:41Tú me diste la cerviz de mis enemigos, a los que me aborrecen, para que yo los destruyese. ^22:42Miraron, y no hubo quien los librase; aun a Jehová, pero no les respondió. ^22:43Yo los desmenucé como polvo de la tierra; los hollé como a lodo de las calles y los disipé. ^22:44Tú me has librado de las contiendas de mi pueblo; tú me has guardado para que sea cabeza de naciones; pueblo que yo no conocía me servirá. ^22:45Los extraños se someterán a mí; al oír, me obedecerán. ^22:46Los extraños desfallecerán, y temblando saldrán de sus escondrijos.

^22:47“¡Vive Jehová! Y bendita sea mi roca; sea enaltecido el Dios de la roca de mi salvación. ^22:48Es Dios quien por mí hace venganza, y quien sujeta los pueblos debajo de mí; ^22:49y que me saca de entre mis enemigos; tú me levantaste en alto sobre los que se levantaron contra mí; me libraste del varón de iniquidades. ^22:50Por tanto, yo te daré gracias entre las naciones, oh Jehová, y cantaré a tu Nombre. ^22:51Él es la torre de salvación para su rey, y hace misericordia a su ungido, a David, y a su simiente, para siempre”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová ha hecho un pacto eterno con David (2 Sam 23:1 - 23:7)

^23:1Éstas son las palabras postreras de David.

David hijo de Isaí dijo, y el varón que fue levantado en alto, el ungido del Dios de Jacob, el dulce salmista de Israel, dijo, ^23:2“El Espíritu de Jehová ha hablado por mí; y su Palabra ha sido en mi lengua”.

^23:3“El Dios de Israel ha dicho, me habló la Roca de Israel, “El que gobierna a los hombres será justo, gobernando en el temor de Dios. ^23:4Y será como la luz de la mañana cuando sale el sol, la mañana sin nubes; como el resplandor tras la lluvia que hace brotar la hierba de la tierra.

^23:5“Aunque mi casa no es así para con Dios, sin embargo él ha hecho conmigo un Pacto eterno, ordenado en todas las cosas y seguro; pues ésta es toda mi salvación y todo mi deseo, aunque todavía no lo haga él florecer.

^23:6“Pero los hijos de Belial serán todos ellos arrancados como espinos, los cuales nadie toma con la mano; ^23:7sino que el que quiere tocarlos se arma de hierro y de asta de lanza; y son del todo quemados en su lugar”.

¶El complemento   Las victorias de batalla de los tres poderosos hombres de David (2 Sam 23:8 - 12)

^23:8Éstos son los nombres de los valientes que David tuvo: el tacmonita, que se sentaba en cátedra, principal de los capitanes; éste era Adino el eznita, que blandiendo su lanza mató a ochocientos hombres en una ocasión.

^23:9Después de éste, Eleazar, hijo de Dodo el ahohíta, uno de los tres valientes que estaban con David.

Cuando desafiaron a los filisteos que se habían juntado allí a la batalla, y se habían retirado los hombres de Israel. ^23:10Éste, levantándose, hirió a los filisteos hasta que su mano se cansó y se le quedó pegada a la espada. Aquel día Jehová dio gran victoria. Y se volvió el pueblo en pos de él solamente a tomar el despojo.

^23:11Después de éste fue Sama, hijo de Age ararita; que habiéndose juntado los filisteos en una aldea, había allí un pequeño terreno lleno de lentejas; y la gente había huido delante de los filisteos.

^23:12Pero él se paró en medio de aquel terreno, y lo defendió, e hirió a los filisteos; y Jehová dio una gran victoria.

¶El complemento   El amor de los tres poderosos por David (2 Sam 23:13 - 17)

^23:13Y tres de los treinta principales descendieron y vinieron en tiempo de la siega a David a la cueva de Adulam; y el campo de los filisteos estaba en el valle de Refaim. ^23:14David entonces estaba en la fortaleza, y la guarnición de los filisteos estaba en Belén.

^23:15Y David tuvo deseo, y dijo, “¡Quién me diera a beber del agua del pozo de Belén, que está junto a la puerta!”.

^23:16Entonces los tres valientes irrumpieron por el campo de los filisteos, y sacaron agua del pozo de Belén, que estaba junto a la puerta; y tomaron, y la trajeron a David.

Sin embargo, él no la quiso beber, sino que la derramó a Jehová, ^23:17diciendo, “Lejos sea de mí, oh Jehová, que yo haga esto. ¿He de beber yo la sangre de los varones que fueron con peligro de su vida?”. Y no quiso beberla.

Los tres valientes hicieron esto.

¶Único   Abisai, Benaía, y el resto de los treinta y siete hombres poderosos (2 Sam 23:18 - 39)

^23:18Y Abisai hermano de Joab, hijo de Sarvia, fue el principal de los tres. Y éste alzó su lanza contra trescientos y los mató, y tuvo renombre entre los tres.

^23:19Él era el más distinguido de los tres, y llegó a ser su jefe; pero no igualó a los tres primeros.

^23:20Después, Benaía hijo de Joiada, hijo de un varón esforzado, grande en proezas, de Cabseel. Éste mató a dos moabitas, fieros como leones; y él mismo descendió, y mató a un león en medio de un foso en tiempo de la nieve. ^23:21Y mató a un egipcio, hombre de grande estatura; y tenía el egipcio una lanza en su mano; pero descendió a él con un palo, y arrebató la lanza de la mano del egipcio y lo mató con su propia lanza.

^23:22Esto hizo Benaía hijo de Joiada, y tuvo nombre entre los tres valientes. ^23:23De los treinta fue el más distinguido; pero no igualó a los tres primeros. Y David lo puso como jefe de su guardia personal.

^23:24Asael hermano de Joab fue de los treinta; Elhanán hijo de Dodo de Belén; ^23:25Sama Harodita, Elica Harodita; ^23:26Heles Paltita, Ira, hijo de Iques, Tecoíta; ^23:27Abiezer Anatotita, Mebunai Husatita; ^23:28Salmón Ahohíta, Maharai Netofatita; ^23:29Helec hijo de Baana Netofatita, Itai hijo de Ribai de Gabaa de los hijos de Benjamín; ^23:30Benaía Piratonita, Hidai de los arroyos de Gaas; ^23:31Abi-albon Arbatita, Azmavet Barhumita; ^23:32Elihaba Saalbonita, Jonatán de los hijos de Jasén; ^23:33Sama Ararita, Ahiam hijo de Sarar Ararita. ^23:34Elifelet hijo de Asbai hijo de un Maacatita; Eliam hijo de Ahitofel Gilonita; ^23:35Hezrai Carmelita, Parai Arbita; ^23:36Igal hijo de Natán de Soba, Bani gadita; ^23:37Selec amonita, Naharai Beerotita, escudero de Joab hijo de Sarvia; ^23:38Ira Itrita, Gareb Itrita; ^23:39Urías heteo. Treinta y siete por todos.

§Único   Conclusión: Dios juzgó a Israel por el pecado de orgullo de David, y David construyó un altar para apaciguar su ira (2 Sam 24:1 - 25)

¶El complemento   Dios juzgó a la gente y mató a 70,000 hombres debido al orgullo de David (2 Sam 24:1 - 17)

^24:1Y volvió a encenderse el furor de Jehová contra Israel, e incitó a David contra ellos a que dijese, “Ve, cuenta a Israel y a Judá”. ^24:2Y dijo el rey a Joab, general del ejército que estaba con él, “Recorre ahora todas las tribus de Israel, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, y cuenta al pueblo, para que yo sepa el número de la gente”. ^24:3Y Joab respondió al rey, “Añada Jehová tu Dios al pueblo cien veces tanto de lo que son, y que lo vea mi señor el rey; pero ¿para qué quiere esto mi señor el rey?”.

^24:4Pero la palabra del rey pudo más que Joab, y que los capitanes del ejército. Salió, pues, Joab, con los capitanes del ejército, de delante del rey, para contar el pueblo de Israel. ^24:5Y pasando el Jordán asentaron en Aroer, a la mano derecha de la ciudad que está en medio del valle de Gad y junto a Jazer. ^24:6Después vinieron a Galaad, y a la tierra baja de Absi; y de allí vinieron a Danjaán y alrededor de Sidón. ^24:7Y vinieron luego a la fortaleza de Tiro, y a todas las ciudades de los heveos y de los cananeos; y salieron al sur de Judá, hasta Beerseba. ^24:8Y después que hubieron recorrido toda la tierra, volvieron a Jerusalén al cabo de nueve meses y veinte días. ^24:9Y Joab dio la suma del número del pueblo al rey; y los de Israel fueron ochocientos mil hombres valientes que sacaban espada; y de los de Judá fueron quinientos mil hombres.

^24:10Y después que David hubo contado al pueblo, le pesó en su corazón; y dijo David a Jehová, “Yo he pecado gravemente por haber hecho esto; pero ahora, oh Jehová, te ruego que quites el pecado de tu siervo: porque yo he hecho muy neciamente”.

^24:11Y por la mañana, cuando David se hubo levantado, vino Palabra de Jehová a Gad Profeta, vidente de David, diciendo, ^24:12“Ve, y di a David, ‘Así dice Jehová: Tres cosas te propongo; tú escogerás una de ellas, para que yo te la haga’”. ^24:13Vino, pues, Gad a David, y se lo hizo saber, y le dijo, “‘¿Quieres que te vengan siete años de hambre en tu tierra? ¿O que huyas tres meses delante de tus enemigos, y que ellos te persigan? ¿O que tres días haya pestilencia en tu tierra?’ Piensa ahora, y mira qué responderé al que me ha enviado. ^24:14Entonces David dijo a Gad, “En grande angustia estoy; caigamos ahora en mano de Jehová: porque grandes son sus misericordias, y no caiga yo en manos de hombres”. ^24:15Y Jehová envió pestilencia a Israel desde la mañana hasta el tiempo señalado; y murieron del pueblo, desde Dan hasta Beerseba, setenta mil hombres.

^24:16Y cuando el ángel extendió su mano sobre Jerusalén para destruirla, Jehová se arrepintió de aquel mal, y dijo al ángel que destruía el pueblo, “Basta ahora; detén tu mano”. Entonces el ángel de Jehová estaba junto a la era de Arauna jebuseo. ^24:17Y David dijo a Jehová, cuando vio al ángel que hería al pueblo, “Yo pequé, yo hice la maldad. ¿Qué hicieron estas ovejas? Te ruego que tu mano se torne contra mí, y contra la casa de mi padre”.

¶El complemento   David edificó un altar en la piso de trilla de Arauna, el jebuseo, para apaciguar la ira de Dios (2 Sam 24:18 - 25)

^24:18Y Gad vino a David aquel día, y le dijo, “Sube, y haz un altar a Jehová en la piso de trilla de Arauna jebuseo”. ^24:19Y subió David, conforme al dicho de Gad, que Jehová le había mandado.

^24:20Y mirando Arauna, vio al rey y a sus siervos que pasaban a él. Saliendo entonces Arauna, se inclinó delante del rey rostro a tierra. ^24:21Y Arauna dijo, “¿Por qué viene mi señor el rey a su siervo?”. Y David respondió, “Para comprar desde ti la piso de trilla, para edificar altar a Jehová, para que cese la mortandad del pueblo”.

^24:22Y Arauna dijo a David, “Tome y ofrezca mi señor el rey lo que bien le pareciere; he aquí bueyes para el holocausto, y los trillos y otros pertrechos de los bueyes para leña”. ^24:23Todo esto hizo Arauna, como un rey da al rey.

Luego dijo Arauna al rey, “Jehová tu Dios te sea propicio”. ^24:24Y el rey dijo a Arauna, “No, sino por precio te lo compraré: porque no ofreceré a Jehová mi Dios holocaustos que no me cuesten nada”. Entonces David compró la era y los bueyes por cincuenta siclos de plata.

^24:25Y edificó allí David un altar a Jehová, y sacrificó holocaustos y ofrendas de paz; y Jehová escuchó la intercesión por la tierra, y cesó la plaga en Israel.
