^23:1And in the seventh year Jehoiada strengthened himself, and took the captains of hundreds, Azariah the son of Jeroham, Ishmael the son of Jehohanan, Azariah the son of Obed, Maaseiah the son of Adaiah, and Elishaphat the son of Zichri, into covenant with him. ^23:2And they went about in Judah, and gathered the Levites out of all the cities of Judah, and the chief of the fathers of Israel, and they came to Jerusalem.

^23:3And all the congregation made a covenant with the king in the House of God. And he said to them, “Behold, the king’s son shall reign, as Jehovah has said of the sons of David. ^23:4This is the thing that you shall do: a third part of you entering on the Sabbath (of the priests and of the Levites) shall be gatekeepers of the doors, ^23:5and a third part shall be at the king’s house, and a third part at the gate of the foundation; and all the people shall be in the courts of the House of Jehovah. ^23:6But let none come into the House of Jehovah, except the priests, and they that minister of the Levites: they shall go in, for they are holy; but all the people shall keep the watch of Jehovah. ^23:7And the Levites shall surround the king, every man with his weapons in his hand; and whosoever else comes into the House, he shall be put to death; but you be with the king when he comes in, and when he goes out.”

^23:8So the Levites and all Judah did according to all things that Jehoiada the priest had commanded; and they took every man his men that were to come in on the Sabbath, with them that were to go out on the Sabbath: for Jehoiada the priest did not dismiss the divisions. ^23:9Moreover Jehoiada the priest delivered to the captains of hundreds spears, small shields, and large shields, that had been king David’s, which were in the House of God. ^23:10And he set all the people, every man having his weapon in his hand, from the right side of the Temple to the left side of the Temple, along by the altar and the Temple, by the king round about.

^23:11Then they brought out the king’s son, and put the crown upon him, and gave him the testimony, and made him king. And Jehoiada and his sons anointed him, and said, “Long live the king!!”

^23:12Now when Athaliah heard the noise of the people running and praising the king, she came to the people into the House of Jehovah; ^23:13and she looked, and, behold, the king stood at his pillar at the entrance, and the princes and the trumpets by the king; and all the people of the land rejoiced, and sounded with trumpets; also the singers with instruments of music, and such as taught to sing praise. Then Athaliah tore her clothes, and said, “Treason, Treason!”

^23:14Then Jehoiada the priest brought out the captains of hundreds that were set over the army, and said to them, “Take her outside under guard; and whoso follows her, let him be slain with the sword.” For the priest said, “Do not slay her in the House of Jehovah.” ^23:15So they laid hands on her; and when she came to the entering of the horse gate by the king’s house, they executed her there.

^23:16And Jehoiada made a covenant between him, and between all the people, and between the king, that they should be Jehovah’s people. ^23:17Then all the people went to the house of Baal, and broke it down, and broke his altars and his images in pieces, and executed Mattan the priest of Baal before the altars.

^23:18Also Jehoiada appointed the offices of the House of Jehovah by the hand of the priests the Levites, whom David had distributed in the House of Jehovah, to offer the burnt offerings of Jehovah, as it is written in the Law of Moses, with rejoicing and with singing, as it was ordained by David. ^23:19And he set the gatekeepers at the gates of the House of Jehovah, so that no one which was unclean in anything could enter in. ^23:20And he took the captains of hundreds, and the nobles, and the governors of the people, and all the people of the land, and they brought down the king from the House of Jehovah. And they came through the high gate into the king’s house, and set the king upon the throne of the kingdom. ^23:21And all the people of the land rejoiced.

And the city was quiet, after that they had executed Athaliah with the sword.

^24:4And it came to pass after this, that Joash was minded to repair the House of Jehovah. ^24:5And he gathered together the priests and the Levites, and said to them, “Go out to the cities of Judah, and gather money of all Israel to repair the House of your God from year to year, and see that you hasten the matter.”

Nevertheless the Levites did not hasten it; ^24:6and the king called for Jehoiada the chief, and said to him, “Why have you not required of the Levites to bring in out of Judah and out of Jerusalem the collection, according to the Commandment of Moses the servant of Jehovah, and of the congregation of Israel, for the Tabernacle of witness? ^24:7For the sons of Athaliah, that wicked woman, had broken up the House of God; and they also bestowed all the dedicated things of the House of Jehovah upon Baalim.”

^24:8And at the king’s command they made a chest, and set it outside at the gate of the House of Jehovah. ^24:9And they made a proclamation throughout Judah and Jerusalem, to bring in to Jehovah the collection that Moses the servant of God laid upon Israel in the wilderness. ^24:10And all the princes and all the people rejoiced, and brought in money, and cast into the chest, until they had made an end.

^24:11Now it came to pass, that at what time the chest was brought to the king’s office by the hand of the Levites, and when they saw that there was much money, the king’s scribe and the high priest’s officer came and emptied the chest, and took it, and carried it to his place again. Thus they did day by day, and gathered money in abundance. ^24:12And the king and Jehoiada gave it to such as did the work of the service of the House of Jehovah, and hired masons and carpenters to repair the House of Jehovah, and also such as worked iron and bronze to mend the House of Jehovah. ^24:13So the workmen worked, and the work was completed by them, and they set the House of God in his state, and strengthened it. ^24:14And when they had finished it, they brought the rest of the money before the king and Jehoiada, whereof were made vessels for the House of Jehovah: vessels to minister and to offer with, and spoons, and vessels of gold and silver. And they offered burnt offerings in the House of Jehovah continually all the days of Jehoiada.

^24:15But Jehoiada grew old, and was full of days when he died: he was one hundred and thirty years old when he died. ^24:16And they buried him in the city of David among the kings, because he had done good in Israel, both toward God, and toward his House.

^24:17Now after the death of Jehoiada, the princes of Judah came and prostrated themselves to the king. Then the king granted their petitions; ^24:18and they left the House of Jehovah God of their fathers, and served images of Asherah and idols; and wrath came upon Judah and Jerusalem for this their trespass. ^24:19Yet he sent prophets to them, to bring them again to Jehovah; and they testified against them, but they would not listen. ^24:20And the Spirit of God came upon Zechariah the son of Jehoiada the priest, who stood above the people, and said to them, “Thus says God: ‘Why do you transgress the Commandments of Jehovah, that you cannot prosper? Because you have forsaken Jehovah, he has also forsaken you.’” ^24:21And they conspired against him, and stoned him with stones at the command of the king in the court of the House of Jehovah. ^24:22Thus Joash the king did not remember the kindness which Jehoiada his father had done to him, but killed his son. And when he died, he said, “Jehovah look upon this, and require it.”

^24:23And it came to pass at the end of the year, that the army of Syria came up against him; and they came to Judah and Jerusalem, and destroyed all the princes of the people from among the people, and sent all the plunder of them to the king of Damascus. ^24:24For the army of the Syrians came with a small company of men; and Jehovah delivered a very great army into their hand, because they had forsaken Jehovah God of their fathers. So they executed judgment against Joash.

^24:25And when they left him (for they left him in great diseases), his own servants conspired against him for the blood of the sons of Jehoiada the priest, and assassinated him on his bed, and he died. And they buried him in the city of David, but they did not bury him in the graves of the kings. ^24:26And these are they that conspired against him: Zabad the son of Shimeath an Ammonitess, and Jehozabad the son of Shimrith a Moabitess.

^24:27Now concerning his sons, and the greatness of the burdens laid upon him, and the repairing of the House of God, behold, they are written in the story of the Book of the kings. And Amaziah his son reigned in his place.

¶Complement   Amaziah became mighty, but sinned against Jehovah through pride and idolatry (2 Chronicles 25:1 - 28)

^25:1Amaziah was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-nine years in Jerusalem; and his mother’s name was Jehoaddan of Jerusalem. ^25:2And he did right in the sight of Jehovah, but not with a loyal heart. ^25:3Now it came to pass, when the kingdom was established to him, that he executed his servants that had slain the king his father. ^25:4But he did not execute their children, but did as it is written in the Book of the Law of Moses, where Jehovah commanded, saying, “The fathers shall not die for the children; neither shall the children die for the fathers, but every man shall die for his own sin.”

^25:5Moreover Amaziah gathered Judah together, and made them captains over thousands, and captains over hundreds, according to the houses of their fathers, throughout all Judah and Benjamin; and he numbered them from twenty years old and above, and found them three hundred thousand choice men, able to go forth to war, that could handle spear and shield. ^25:6He also hired one hundred thousand mighty men of valor out of Israel for one hundred talents of silver. ^25:7But a man of God came to him, saying, “O king, do not let the army of Israel go with you: for Jehovah is not with Israel, namely, with all the children of Ephraim. ^25:8But if you will go, do it, and be strong for the battle; but God shall make you fall before the enemy: for God has power to help, and to cast down.” ^25:9And Amaziah said to the man of God, “But what shall we do for the hundred talents which I have given to the army of Israel?” And the man of God answered, “Jehovah is able to give you much more than this.” ^25:10Then Amaziah separated them: namely, the army that came to him out of Ephraim, to go home again; therefore their anger was greatly kindled against Judah, and they returned home in great anger. ^25:11And Amaziah strengthened himself, and led forth his people, and went to the valley of salt, and smote ten thousand of the children of Seir. ^25:12And another ten thousand left alive did the children of Judah carry away captive, and brought them to the top of the rock, and cast them down from the top of the rock, so that they were all broken in pieces. ^25:13But the soldiers of the army which Amaziah sent back, that they should not go with him to battle, fell upon the cities of Judah, from Samaria even to Beth-horon, and smote three thousand of them, and took much plunder.

^25:14Now it came to pass, after Amaziah came from the slaughter of the Edomites, that he brought the gods of the children of Seir; and he set them up to be his gods, and bowed down himself before them, and burned incense to them. ^25:15Therefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Amaziah; and he sent a prophet to him, which said to him, “Why have you sought after the gods of the people, which could not deliver their own people out of your hand?” ^25:16And it came to pass, as he talked with him, that the king said to him, “Are you made of the king’s counsel? Forbear; why should you be destroyed?” Then the prophet refrained, and said, “I know that God has determined to destroy you, because you have done this, and have not listened to my counsel.”

^25:17Then Amaziah king of Judah took advice; and he sent to Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, the son of Jehu, king of Israel, saying, “Come, let us see one another in the face.” ^25:18And Joash king of Israel sent to Amaziah king of Judah, saying, “The thistle that was in Lebanon sent to the cedar that was in Lebanon, saying, ‘Give your daughter to my son to be his wife’; and a wild beast passed by that was in Lebanon, and trampled down the thistle. ^25:19You say, ‘Lo, you have smitten the Edomites’; and your heart lifts you up to boast. Stay now at home. Why should you meddle to your harm, that you should fall, even you, and Judah with you?” ^25:20But Amaziah would not listen: for it came of God, that he might deliver them into the hand of their enemies, because they sought after the gods of Edom. ^25:21So Joash the king of Israel went up; and they saw one another in the face, both he and Amaziah king of Judah, at Beth-shemesh, which belongs to Judah. ^25:22And Judah was put to the worse before Israel, and they fled every man to his tent. ^25:23And Joash the king of Israel took Amaziah king of Judah, the son of Joash, the son of Jehoahaz, at Beth-shemesh, and brought him to Jerusalem; and he broke down the wall of Jerusalem from the gate of Ephraim to the corner gate, four hundred cubits. ^25:24And he took all the gold and the silver, and all the vessels that were found in the House of God with Obed-edom, and the treasures of the king’s house, the hostages also, and returned to Samaria. ^25:25And Amaziah the son of Joash king of Judah lived after the death of Joash son of Jehoahaz king of Israel fifteen years.

^25:26Now the rest of the acts of Amaziah, first and last, behold, are they not written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel? ^25:27Now after the time that Amaziah turned away from following Jehovah they made a conspiracy against him in Jerusalem. And he fled to Lachish, but they sent to Lachish after him, and executed him there. ^25:28And they brought him upon horses, and buried him with his fathers in the city of Judah.

¶Complement   Uzziah became mighty, but sinned against Jehovah through pride (2 Chronicles 26:1 - 23)

^26:1Then all the people of Judah took Uzziah, who was sixteen years old, and they made him king in the place of his father Amaziah. ^26:2He built Eloth; and restored it to Judah, after Amaziah the king slept with his fathers. ^26:3Uzziah was sixteen years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. Also his mother’s name was Jecoliah of Jerusalem. ^26:4And he did right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his father Amaziah did. ^26:5And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God; and as long as he sought Jehovah, God made him to prosper.

^26:6And he went forth and made war against the Philistines, and broke down the wall of Gath, the wall of Jabneh, and the wall of Ashdod; and built cities about Ashdod, and among the Philistines. ^26:7And God helped him against the Philistines, and against the Arabians that dwelt in Gur-baal, and the Mehunims. ^26:8And the Ammonites gave gifts to Uzziah; and his name spread abroad even to the entering in of Egypt: for he strengthened himself exceedingly.

^26:9Moreover Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the corner gate, and at the valley gate, and at the turning of the wall, and fortified them. ^26:10Also he built towers in the desert, and dug many wells: for he had much livestock, both in the low country, and in the plains; farmers also, and vinedressers in the mountains, and in Carmel: for he loved farming. ^26:11Moreover Uzziah had an army of fighting men, that went out to war by bands, according to the number of their account by the hand of Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the ruler, under the hand of Hananiah, one of the king’s captains. ^26:12The whole number of the chief of the fathers of the mighty men of valor were two thousand and six hundred. ^26:13And under their hand was an army: three hundred and seven thousand, five hundred soldiers, that made war with mighty power, to help the king against the enemy. ^26:14And Uzziah prepared for them, throughout all the army, shields, spears, helmets, habergeons, bows, and slings to cast stones. ^26:15And he made in Jerusalem engines, invented by skillful men, to be on the towers and upon the bulwarks, to shoot arrows and great stones with them. And his name spread far abroad: for he was marvelously helped, until he was strong.

^26:16But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against Jehovah his God, and went into the Temple of Jehovah to burn incense upon the altar of incense. ^26:17And Azariah the priest went in after him, and with him eighty priests of Jehovah, that were valiant men; ^26:18and they withstood Uzziah the king, and said to him, “It does not pertain to you, Uzziah, to burn incense to Jehovah, but only to the priests the sons of Aaron, that are consecrated to burn incense. Go out of the Sanctuary: for you have trespassed; neither shall it be for your honor from Jehovah God.” ^26:19Then Uzziah was angry, and had a censer in his hand to burn incense; and while he was angry with the priests, the leprosy rose up even in his forehead before the priests in the House of Jehovah, from beside the incense altar. ^26:20And Azariah the chief priest, and all the priests, looked upon him, and, behold, he was leprous in his forehead, and they thrust him out from there; indeed, he himself also hurried to go out, because Jehovah had smitten him. ^26:21And Uzziah the king was a leper until the day of his death, and dwelt in a hospital, being a leper: for he was cut off from the House of Jehovah; and Jotham his son was over the king’s house, judging the people of the land.

^26:22Now the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last, did Isaiah the prophet, the son of Amoz, write. ^26:23So Uzziah slept with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the field of the burial which belonged to the kings: for they said, “He is a leper”; and Jotham his son reigned in his place.

^27:2And he did right in the sight of Jehovah, according to all that his father Uzziah did; nevertheless he did not enter into the Temple of Jehovah. And the people did corruptly still.

^27:3He built the high gate of the House of Jehovah, and he built much on the wall of Ophel. ^27:4Moreover he built cities in the mountains of Judah, and in the forests he built castles and towers.

^27:5He also fought with the king of the Ammonites, and prevailed against them. And the children of Ammon gave him the same year one hundred talents of silver, ten thousand measures of wheat, and ten thousand of barley. So much did the children of Ammon pay to him, both the second year, and the third. ^27:6So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before Jehovah his God.

^27:7Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all his wars, and his ways, lo, they are written in the book of the kings of Israel and Judah. ^27:8He was twenty-five years old when he began to reign, and reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. ^27:9And Jotham slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David; and Ahaz his son reigned in his place.

^28:5Therefore Jehovah his God delivered him into the hand of the king of Syria; and they smote him, and carried away a great multitude of them captives, and brought them to Damascus. And also he was delivered into the hand of the king of Israel, who smote him with a great slaughter: ^28:6for Pekah the son of Remaliah slew in Judah a hundred and twenty thousand in one day, which were all valiant men, because they had forsaken Jehovah God of their fathers. ^28:7And Zichri, a mighty man of Ephraim, slew Maaseiah the king’s son, and Azrikam the governor of the house, and Elkanah that was next to the king. ^28:8And the children of Israel carried away captive two hundred thousand of their brethren: women, sons, and daughters; and also took away much plunder from them, and brought the plunder to Samaria.

^28:9But a prophet of Jehovah was there, whose name was Oded; and he went out before the army that came to Samaria, and said to them, “Behold, because Jehovah God of your fathers, was angry with Judah, he has delivered them into your hand, and you have slain them in a rage that reaches up to Heaven. ^28:10And now you purpose to keep under the children of Judah and Jerusalem for men slaves and women slaves to yourselves; but are there not with you, even with you, sins against Jehovah your God? ^28:11Now therefore hear me, and deliver the captives again, which you have taken captive of your brethren: for the fierce wrath of Jehovah is upon you.”

^28:12Then certain of the heads of the children of Ephraim, Azariah the son of Johanan, Berechiah the son of Meshillemoth, Jehizkiah the son of Shallum, and Amasa the son of Hadlai, stood up against them that came from the war; ^28:13and they said to them, “You shall not bring the captives in here: for whereas we have already offended against Jehovah, you intend to add more to our sins and to our trespass: for our trespass is great; and there is fierce wrath against Israel.”

^28:14So the armed men left the captives and the plunder before the princes and all the congregation. ^28:15And the men which were expressed by name rose up, and took the captives, and with the plunder clothed all that were naked among them, and arrayed them, and gave them shoes, and gave them to eat and to drink, and anointed them, and carried all the feeble of them upon donkeys, and brought them to Jericho, the city of palm trees, to their brethren. Then they returned to Samaria.

^28:20And Tilgath-pilneser king of Assyria came to him, and distressed him, but did not strengthen him: ^28:21for Ahaz took away a portion out of the House of Jehovah, and out of the house of the king, and of the princes, and gave it to the king of Assyria; but he did not help him.

^28:22And in the time of his distress he trespassed still more against Jehovah (this is that king Ahaz): ^28:23for he sacrificed to the gods of Damascus, which smote him; and he said, “Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them; therefore I will sacrifice to them, that they may help me.” But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

^28:24And Ahaz gathered together the vessels of the House of God, and cut in pieces the vessels of the House of God, and shut up the doors of the House of Jehovah, and he made him altars in every corner of Jerusalem. ^28:25And in each city of Judah he made high places to burn incense to other gods, and provoked to anger Jehovah God of his fathers.

^28:26Now the rest of his acts and of all his ways, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of the kings of Judah and Israel. ^28:27And Ahaz slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city, even in Jerusalem, but they did not bring him into the graves of the kings of Israel; and Hezekiah his son reigned in his place.

^22:10Entonces Atalía madre de Ocozías, viendo que su hijo era muerto, se levantó y destruyó toda la simiente real de la casa de Judá. ^22:11Pero Josabet, hija del rey, tomó a Joás hijo de Ocozías, y lo arrebató de entre los hijos del rey, a los cuales mataban, y le guardó a él y a su ama en una recámara. Así lo escondió Josabet, hija del rey Joram, esposa de Joiada el sacerdote (porque ella era hermana de Ocozías), de delante de Atalía, y no lo mataron. ^22:12Y estuvo con ellos escondido en la Casa de Dios seis años. Entre tanto Atalía reinaba en el país.

^23:1Pero el séptimo año se animó Joiada, y tomó consigo en alianza a los centuriones, Azarías hijo de Jeroham, y a Ismael hijo de Johanán, y a Azarías hijo de Obed, y a Maasías hijo de Adaías, y a Elisafat hijo de Zicri; ^23:2los cuales rodeando por Judá, juntaron a los levitas de todas las ciudades de Judá, y a los príncipes de las familias de Israel, y vinieron a Jerusalén.

^23:3Y toda la multitud hizo alianza con el rey en la Casa de Dios. Y él les dijo, “He aquí el hijo del rey, el cual reinará, como Jehová lo tiene dicho de los hijos de David. ^23:4Esto es lo que habéis de hacer: una tercera parte de ustedes que entran el Sábado, estarán de porteros con los sacerdotes y los levitas; ^23:5y una tercera parte estará en la casa del rey; y una tercera parte, a la puerta del Fundamento; y todo el pueblo estará en los atrios de la Casa de Jehová. ^23:6Y ninguno entre en la Casa de Jehová, sino los sacerdotes y levitas que sirven; éstos entrarán: porque están consagrados; y todo el pueblo hará la guardia de Jehová. ^23:7Y los levitas rodearán al rey por todas partes, y cada uno tendrá sus armas en la mano; y cualquiera que entrare en la casa, que muera; y estaréis con el rey cuando entrare, y cuando saliere”.

^23:8Y los levitas y todo Judá lo hicieron todo como lo había mandado el sacerdote Joiada; y tomó cada uno a los suyos, los que entraban el Sábado, y los que salían el Sábado: porque el sacerdote Joiada no dio licencia a las compañías. ^23:9Dio también el sacerdote Joiada a los centuriones las lanzas, paveses y escudos que habían sido del rey David, que estaban en la Casa de Dios; ^23:10y puso en orden a todo el pueblo, teniendo cada uno su espada en la mano, desde el rincón derecho del templo hasta el izquierdo, hacia el altar y la casa, en derredor del rey por todas partes.

^23:11Entonces sacaron al hijo del rey, le pusieron la corona, le dieron el testimonio y le proclamaron rey; y Joiada y sus hijos le ungieron, diciendo luego, “¡¡Viva el rey!!”.

^23:12Y como Atalía oyó el estruendo de la gente que corría, y de los que aclamaban al rey, vino al pueblo a la Casa de Jehová; ^23:13y mirando, vio al rey que estaba junto a su columna a la entrada, y los príncipes y los trompetistas junto al rey, y todo el pueblo de la tierra hacía alegrías, y tocaban trompetas, y los cantores con instrumentos de música dirigían la alabanza. Entonces Atalía rasgó sus vestidos, y dijo, “¡Traición! ¡Traición!”.

^23:14Entonces el sacerdote Joiada sacó a los centuriones que estaban al mando del ejército, y les dijo, “Sacadla fuera del recinto; y el que la siguiere, muera a filo de espada”. Porque el sacerdote había mandado que no la matasen en la Casa de Jehová. ^23:15Ellos, pues, le echaron mano, y luego que hubo ella pasado la entrada de la puerta de los Caballos de la casa del rey, allí la mataron.

^23:16Y Joiada hizo pacto entre sí y todo el pueblo y el rey, que serían pueblo de Jehová. ^23:17Después de esto entró todo el pueblo en el templo de Baal, y lo derribaron, y también sus altares; e hicieron pedazos sus imágenes, y mataron delante de los altares a Matán, sacerdote de Baal.

^23:18Luego ordenó Joiada los oficios en la Casa de Jehová bajo la mano de los sacerdotes y levitas, según David los había distribuido en la Casa de Jehová, para ofrecer a Jehová los holocaustos, como está escrito en la Ley de Moisés, con gozo y cantos, conforme fue ordenado por David. ^23:19Puso también porteros a las puertas de la Casa de Jehová, para que por ninguna vía entrase ningún inmundo. ^23:20Tomó después a los centuriones, y a los principales, y a los que gobernaban el pueblo; y a todo el pueblo de la tierra, e hizo descender al rey de la Casa de Jehová; y vinieron a través de la puerta mayor a la casa del rey, y sentaron al rey sobre el trono del reino. ^23:21Y se regocijó todo el pueblo del país.

Y la ciudad estuvo quieta, después que mataron a Atalía a filo de espada.

^24:1Siete años tenía Joás cuando comenzó a reinar, y cuarenta años reinó en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Sibia, de Beerseba. ^24:2Y Joás hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová todos los días de Joiada el sacerdote. ^24:3Y Joiada tomó para él dos esposas; y engendró hijos e hijas.

^24:4Después de esto aconteció que Joás tuvo voluntad de reparar la Casa de Jehová. ^24:5Y juntó a los sacerdotes y a los levitas, y les dijo, “Salid por las ciudades de Judá, y juntad dinero de todo Israel, para que cada año sea reparada la Casa de vuestro Dios; y ustedes poned diligencia en el asunto”.

Sin embargo, los levitas no lo apresuraron. ^24:6Por lo cual el rey llamó a Joiada el principal, y le dijo, “¿Por qué no has procurado que los levitas traigan de Judá y de Jerusalén al Tabernáculo de la congregación, la ofrenda que impuso Moisés siervo de Jehová, y de la congregación de Israel? ^24:7Porque la impía Atalía y sus hijos habían destruido la Casa de Dios, y además habían gastado en los ídolos todas las cosas consagradas a la Casa de Jehová”.

^24:8Mandó, pues, el rey que hiciesen un Arca, la cual pusieron fuera a la puerta de la Casa de Jehová; ^24:9e hicieron pregonar en Judá y en Jerusalén, que trajesen a Jehová la ofrenda que Moisés siervo de Dios había impuesto a Israel en el desierto. ^24:10Y todos los príncipes y todo el pueblo se gozaron, y trajeron ofrendas, y echaron en el arca hasta llenarla.

^24:11Y sucedía que cuando venía el tiempo para llevar el arca al magistrado del rey por mano de los levitas, cuando veían que había mucho dinero, venía el escriba del rey, y el que estaba puesto por el sumo sacerdote, y llevaban el arca, y la vaciaban, y la volvían a su lugar; y así lo hacían de día en día, y recogían mucho dinero; ^24:12y el rey y Joiada lo daban a los que hacían la obra del servicio de la Casa de Jehová, y contrataban canteros y carpinteros para que reparasen la Casa de Jehová, y a los que trabajaban con hierro y bronce para que reparasen la Casa de Jehová. ^24:13Hacían, pues, los artesanos la obra, y por sus manos la obra fue restaurada, y restituyeron la Casa de Dios a su condición, y la consolidaron. ^24:14Y cuando hubieron acabado, trajeron lo que quedaba del dinero al rey y a Joiada, e hicieron de él utensilios para la Casa de Jehová, utensilios para el servicio, morteros, cucharas, vasos de oro y de plata. Y sacrificaban holocaustos continuamente en la Casa de Jehová todos los días de Joiada.

¶Lo opuesto   Joás cedió a la mala presión de los príncipes de Judá y adoró ídolos en lugar de Jehová (2 Crónicas 24:15 - 27)

^24:15Pero Joiada envejeció, y murió lleno de días; tenía ciento treinta años cuando murió. ^24:16Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David con los reyes, por cuanto había hecho bien con Israel, y para con Dios, y con su Casa.

^24:17Ahora después de la muerte de Joiada, los príncipes de Judá vinieron y se postraron ante el rey. Entonces el rey cedió a sus peticiones; ^24:18y abandonaron la Casa de Jehová el Dios de sus padres, y sirvieron a las imágenes de Asera y a las imágenes esculpidas; y la ira vino sobre Judá y Jerusalén por este su pecado. ^24:19Y les envió Profetas para que los volviesen a Jehová, los cuales les amonestaron; pero ellos no los escucharon. ^24:20Y el Espíritu de Dios envistió a Zacarías, hijo de Joiada el sacerdote, y puesto en pie, donde estaba más alto que el pueblo, les dijo, “Así dice Dios, ‘¿Por qué quebrantáis los Mandamientos de Jehová? No os vendrá bien por ello: porque por haber abandonado a Jehová, él también os abandonará’”. ^24:21Pero hicieron conspiración contra él, y por mandato del rey, lo apedrearon en el atrio de la Casa de Jehová. ^24:22Así el rey Joás no se acordó de la misericordia que su padre Joiada había hecho con él, antes mató su hijo; el cual dijo al morir, “Jehová lo vea, y lo demande”.

^24:23Y sucedió que a la vuelta del año subió contra él el ejército de Siria; y vinieron a Judá y a Jerusalén, y destruyeron en el pueblo a todos los principales de él, y enviaron todo el despojo al rey a Damasco: ^24:24porque aunque el ejército de Siria había venido con poca gente, Jehová les entregó en sus manos un ejército muy numeroso; por cuanto habían dejado a Jehová el Dios de sus padres. Y así ejecutaron juicio contra Joás.

^24:25Y yéndose de él los Sirios, lo dejaron en muchas enfermedades; y conspiraron contra él sus siervos a causa de la sangre de los hijos de Joiada el sacerdote, y le hirieron en su cama, y murió. Y le sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no lo sepultaron en los sepulcros de los reyes. ^24:26Los que conspiraron contra él fueron Zabad, hijo de Simeat amonita, y Jozabad, hijo de Simrit moabita.

^24:27Y en cuanto a sus hijos, y a la multiplicación que hizo de las rentas, y de la restauración de la Casa de Jehová, he aquí está escrito en la historia del libro de los reyes. Y reinó en su lugar Amasías su hijo.

¶El complemento   Amasías se hizo poderoso, pero pecó contra Jehová a través del orgullo y la idolatría (2 Crónicas 25:1 - 28)

^25:1Veinticinco años tenía Amasías cuando comenzó a reinar, y veintinueve años reinó en Jerusalén; el nombre de su madre fue Joadan, de Jerusalén. ^25:2Hizo él lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová aunque no de perfecto corazón. ^25:3Y sucedió que luego que fue confirmado en el reino, mató a sus siervos que habían matado al rey su padre. ^25:4Pero no mató a los hijos de ellos, según lo que está escrito en la Ley en el Libro de Moisés, donde Jehová mandó, diciendo, “No morirán los padres por los hijos, ni los hijos por los padres; pero cada uno morirá por su pecado”.

^25:5Juntó luego Amasías a Judá, y con arreglo a las familias les puso jefes de millares y de centenas por todo Judá y Benjamín; y puso en lista a los de veinte años arriba, y fueron hallados en ellos trescientos mil escogidos para salir a la guerra, que tenían lanza y escudo. ^25:6Y de Israel tomó a sueldo cien mil hombres valientes, por cien talentos de plata. ^25:7Pero un varón de Dios vino a él y le dijo, “Rey, no vaya contigo el ejército de Israel: porque Jehová no está con Israel, ni con todos los hijos de Efraín. ^25:8Pero si quieres ir, ve, esfuérzate para la batalla, pero Dios te hará caer delante de los enemigos: porque en Dios está el poder, o para ayudar, o para derribar”. ^25:9Y Amasías dijo al varón de Dios, “¿Qué, pues, se hará de los cien talentos que he dado al ejército de Israel?”. Y el varón de Dios respondió, “De Jehová es darte mucho más que esto”. ^25:10Entonces Amasías apartó el escuadrón de la gente que había venido a él de Efraín, para que se fuesen a sus casas; y ellos se enojaron grandemente contra Judá, y se volvieron a sus casas encolerizados. ^25:11Esforzándose entonces Amasías, sacó a su pueblo, y vino al valle de la Sal, y mató de los hijos de Seir diez mil. ^25:12Y los hijos de Judá tomaron vivos otros diez mil, los cuales llevaron a la cumbre de un peñasco, y de allí los despeñaron, y todos se hicieron pedazos. ^25:13Pero los del escuadrón que Amasías había despedido, para que no fuesen con él a la guerra, acometieron las ciudades de Judá, desde Samaria hasta Bet-horón, e hirieron de ellos tres mil, y tomaron un grande despojo.

^25:14Regresando luego Amasías de la matanza de los edomitas, trajo también consigo los dioses de los hijos de Seir, y los puso para sí por dioses, y se inclinó ante ellos y les quemó incienso. ^25:15Por lo cual se encendió el furor de Jehová contra Amasías, y envió a él un Profeta, que le dijo, “¿Por qué has buscado los dioses de la gente, que no libraron a su pueblo de tus manos?”. ^25:16Y hablándole el Profeta estas cosas, él le respondió, “¿Te han puesto a ti por consejero del rey? Déjate de eso: ¿Por qué quieres que te maten?”. Y cuando terminó de hablar, el Profeta dijo luego, “Yo sé que Dios ha determinado destruirte: porque has hecho esto, y no obedeciste a mi consejo”.

^25:17Y Amasías rey de Judá, habiendo tomado consejo, envió a decir a Joás, hijo de Joacaz, hijo de Jehú, rey de Israel, “Ven, y veámonos cara a cara”. ^25:18Entonces Joás rey de Israel envió a decir a Amasías rey de Judá, “El cardo que estaba en el Líbano, envió al cedro que estaba en el Líbano, diciendo, ‘Da tu hija a mi hijo por esposa’. Y he aquí que las bestias fieras que estaban en el Líbano, pasaron, y hollaron el cardo. ^25:19Tú dices, ‘He aquí he herido a Edom’; y tu corazón se enaltece para gloriarte. Ahora quédate en tu casa; ¿para qué provocas tu mal, para caer tú y Judá contigo?”. ^25:20Pero Amasías no quiso oír: porque esto venía de Dios, que los quería entregar en manos de sus enemigos, por cuanto habían buscado los dioses de Edom. ^25:21Subió, pues, Joás rey de Israel, y se vieron cara a cara él y Amasías rey de Judá, en Bet-semes, la cual es de Judá. ^25:22Pero cayó Judá delante de Israel, y huyó cada uno a su estancia. ^25:23Y Joás rey de Israel prendió en Bet-semes a Amasías rey de Judá, hijo de Joás hijo de Joacaz, y lo llevó a Jerusalén; y derribó el muro de Jerusalén desde la puerta de Efraín hasta la puerta del Ángulo, cuatrocientos codos. ^25:24Asimismo tomó todo el oro y la plata, y todos los utensilios que se hallaron en la Casa de Dios en Casa de Obed-edom, y los tesoros de la casa del rey, y los hijos de los príncipes, y se volvió a Samaria. ^25:25Y vivió Amasías hijo de Joás, rey de Judá, quince años después de la muerte de Joás hijo de Joacaz rey de Israel.

^25:26Lo demás de los hechos de Amasías, primeros y postreros, ¿no está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel? ^25:27Desde aquel tiempo que Amasías se apartó de Jehová, maquinaron contra él conjura en Jerusalén; y habiendo él huido a Laquis, enviaron tras él a Laquis, y allá lo mataron; ^25:28y lo trajeron en caballos, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de Judá.

¶El complemento   Uzías se hizo poderoso, pero pecó contra Jehová por su orgullo (2 Crónicas 26:1 - 23)

^26:1Entonces todo el pueblo de Judá tomó a Uzías, el cual tenía dieciséis años, y lo pusieron por rey en lugar de Amasías su padre. ^26:2Edificó él a Elot, y la restituyó a Judá después que el rey durmió con sus padres. ^26:3Dieciséis años tenía Uzías cuando comenzó a reinar, y cincuenta y dos años reinó en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Jecolía, de Jerusalén. ^26:4E hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Amasías su padre. ^26:5Y persistió en buscar a Dios en los días de Zacarías, entendido en visiones de Dios; y en estos días que él buscó a Jehová, él le prosperó.

^26:6Y salió, y peleó contra los filisteos, y rompió el muro de Gat, y el muro de Jabnia, y el muro de Asdod; y edificó ciudades en Asdod, y en la tierra de los filisteos. ^26:7Y Dios le dio ayuda contra los filisteos, y contra los árabes que habitaban en Gur-baal, y contra los meunitas. ^26:8Y dieron los amonitas presentes a Uzías, y se divulgó su nombre hasta la entrada de Egipto: porque se había hecho altamente poderoso.

^26:9Edificó también Uzías torres en Jerusalén, junto a la puerta del Ángulo, y junto a la puerta del Valle, y junto a las esquinas; y las fortificó. ^26:10Asimismo edificó torres en el desierto, y abrió muchas cisternas: porque tuvo muchos ganados, así en los valles como en las vegas; y viñas, y labranzas, así en los montes como en el Carmelo: porque era amigo de la agricultura. ^26:11Tuvo también Uzías escuadrones de guerreros, los cuales salían a la guerra en ejército, según que estaban por lista hecha por mano de Jeiel escriba y de Maasías gobernador, y por mano de Hananías, uno de los príncipes del rey. ^26:12Todo el número de los jefes de familias, valientes y esforzados, era dos mil seiscientos. ^26:13Y bajo la mano de éstos estaba el ejército de guerra, de trescientos siete mil quinientos guerreros poderosos y fuertes para ayudar al rey contra los enemigos. ^26:14Y les aprestó Uzías para todo el ejército, escudos, lanzas, almetes, coseletes, arcos, y hondas de tirar piedras. ^26:15E hizo en Jerusalén máquinas inventadas por ingenieros, para que estuviesen en las torres y en los baluartes, para arrojar saetas y grandes piedras, y su fama se extendió lejos: porque fue ayudado maravillosamente, hasta hacerse fuerte.

^26:16Pero cuando ya era fuerte, su corazón se enalteció para su ruina: porque se rebeló contra Jehová su Dios, entrando en el Templo de Jehová para quemar incienso en el altar del incienso. ^26:17Y entró tras él el sacerdote Azarías, y con él ochenta sacerdotes de Jehová, de los valientes. ^26:18Y se pusieron contra el rey Uzías, y le dijeron, “No a ti, oh Uzías, el quemar incienso a Jehová, sino a los sacerdotes hijos de Aarón, que son consagrados para quemarlo. Sal del santuario, por que has prevaricado, y no te será para gloria delante de Jehová Dios”. ^26:19Y Uzías, que tenía en su mano un incensario para quemar incienso, se llenó de ira; y en esta su ira contra los sacerdotes, la lepra le salió en la frente delante de los sacerdotes en la Casa de Jehová, junto al altar del incienso. ^26:20Y le miró Azarías el sumo sacerdote, y todos los sacerdotes, y he aquí la lepra estaba en su frente; y le hicieron salir aprisa de aquel lugar; y él también se dio prisa a salir: porque Jehová lo había herido. ^26:21Así el rey Uzías fue leproso hasta el día de su muerte, y habitó en una casa apartada, leproso, por lo que había sido separado de la Casa de Jehová; y Jotam su hijo tuvo cargo de la casa real, gobernando al pueblo de la tierra.

^26:22Los demás hechos de Uzías, primeros y postreros, los escribió el Profeta Isaías, hijo de Amoz. ^26:23Y durmió Uzías con sus padres, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en el campo de los sepulcros reales: porque dijeron, “Leproso es”. Y reinó Jotam su hijo en lugar suyo.

¶Único   Jotam se hizo poderoso, porque él preparó sus caminos delante de Jehová su Dios (2 Crónicas 27:1 - 9)

^27:1Veinticinco años tenía Jotam cuando comenzó a reinar, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Jerusa, hija de Sadoc.

^27:2E hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, conforme a todas las cosas que había hecho Uzías su padre, salvo que no entró en el Templo de Jehová. Y el pueblo continuaba corrompiéndose.

^27:3Edificó él la puerta mayor de la Casa de Jehová, y en el muro de la fortaleza edificó mucho. ^27:4Además edificó ciudades en las montañas de Judá, y labró palacios y torres en los bosques.

^27:5También tuvo él guerra con el rey de los hijos de Amón, a los cuales venció; y le dieron los hijos de Amón en aquel año cien talentos de plata, y diez mil coros de trigo, y diez mil de cebada. Esto le dieron los hijos de Amón, y lo mismo en el segundo año, y en el tercero. ^27:6Así que Jotam se hizo fuerte: porque preparó sus caminos delante de Jehová su Dios.

^27:7Lo demás de los hechos de Jotam, y todas sus guerras, y sus caminos, he aquí está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Israel y de Judá. ^27:8Cuando comenzó a reinar tenía veinticinco años, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalén. ^27:9Y durmió Jotam con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David; y reinó en su lugar Acaz su hijo.

^28:1Veinte años tenía Acaz cuando comenzó a reinar, y dieciséis años reinó en Jerusalén; pero no hizo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová, como David su padre. ^28:2Pues anduvo en los caminos de los reyes de Israel, y además hizo imágenes de fundición a los Baales. ^28:3Quemó también incienso en el valle de los hijos de Hinom, y quemó sus hijos por fuego, conforme a las abominaciones de las naciones que Jehová había echado de delante de los hijos de Israel. ^28:4Asimismo sacrificó y quemó incienso en los lugares altos, y en los collados, y debajo de todo árbol frondoso.

^28:5Por lo cual Jehová su Dios lo entregó en manos del rey de los Sirios, los cuales le derrotaron, y se llevaron cautiva una gran multitud que llevaron a Damasco. Fue también entregado en manos del rey de Israel, el cual lo batió con gran mortandad: ^28:6porque Peka, hijo de Remalías mató en Judá en un día ciento veinte mil, todos hombres valientes; por cuanto habían dejado a Jehová el Dios de sus padres. ^28:7Asimismo Zicri, hombre poderoso de Efraín, mató a Maasías hijo del rey, y a Azricam su mayordomo, y a Elcana, segundo después del rey. ^28:8Y los hijos de Israel se llevaron cautivos de sus hermanos a doscientos mil, mujeres, hijos e hijas, además de haber saqueado de ellos un gran despojo, el cual trajeron a Samaria.

^28:9Había entonces allí un Profeta de Jehová, que se llamaba Oded, el cual salió delante del ejército cuando entraba en Samaria, y les dijo, “He aquí Jehová el Dios de vuestros padres, por el enojo contra Judá, los ha entregado en vuestras manos; y ustedes los habéis matado con ira, que ha llegado hasta el Cielo. ^28:10Y ahora habéis determinado sujetar a ustedes a Judá y a Jerusalén por siervos y siervas; pero ¿no habéis ustedes pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios? ^28:11Oídme, pues, ahora, y devolved a los cautivos que habéis tomado de vuestros hermanos: porque Jehová está airado contra ustedes”.

^28:12Se levantaron entonces algunos varones de los principales de los hijos de Efraín, Azarías hijo de Johanán, y Berequías hijo de Mesilemot, y Ezequías hijo de Salum, y Amasa hijo de Hadlai, contra los que venían de la guerra. ^28:13Y les dijeron, “No metáis acá a los cautivos: porque el pecado contra Jehová será sobre nosotros. Ustedes tratáis de añadir sobre nuestros pecados y sobre nuestras culpas, siendo muy grande nuestro delito, y la ira del furor sobre Israel”.

^28:14Entonces el ejército dejó los cautivos y el despojo delante de los príncipes y de toda la multitud. ^28:15Y se levantaron los varones nombrados, y tomaron los cautivos, y vistieron del despojo a los que de ellos estaban desnudos; los vistieron y los calzaron, y les dieron de comer y de beber, y los ungieron, y condujeron en asnos a todos los débiles, y los llevaron hasta Jericó, ciudad de las palmeras, cerca de sus hermanos; y ellos se volvieron a Samaria.

¶El complemento   En el momento de su angustia, Acaz se volvió cada vez más malvado en lugar de volviendo a Jehová (2 Crónicas 28:16 - 27)

^28:16En aquel tiempo el rey Acaz envió a pedir a los reyes de Asiria que le ayudasen. ^28:17Pues otra vez los edomitas habían venido y herido a los de Judá, y habían llevado cautivos. ^28:18Asimismo los filisteos habían invadido a las ciudades de la llanura, y del sur de Judá, y habían tomado a Bet-semes, a Ajalón, Gederot, y a Soco con sus aldeas, Timna también con sus aldeas, y Gimzo con sus aldeas; y habitaban en ellas: ^28:19porque Jehová había humillado a Judá por causa de Acaz rey de Israel; por cuanto él había desnudado a Judá, y había prevaricado gravemente contra Jehová.

^28:20Y vino contra él Tilgat-pileser, rey de los asirios; quien lo redujo a estrechez, y no lo fortificó. ^28:21Aunque despojó Acaz la Casa de Jehová, y la casa real, y las de los príncipes, para dar al rey de los asirios, con todo eso él no le ayudó.

^28:22Además el rey Acaz en el tiempo de su aflicción, añadió mayor pecado contra Jehová: ^28:23porque ofreció sacrificio a los dioses de Damasco que le habían derrotado, y dijo, “Pues que los dioses de los reyes de Siria les ayudan, yo también sacrificaré a ellos para que me ayuden”. Bien que fueron éstos su ruina, y la de todo Israel.

^28:24A más de eso recogió Acaz los utensilios de la Casa de Dios, y los quebró, y cerró las puertas de la Casa de Jehová, y se hizo altares en Jerusalén en todos los rincones. ^28:25Hizo también lugares altos en todas las ciudades de Judá, para quemar incienso a otros dioses, provocando así a ira a Jehová el Dios de sus padres.

^28:26Lo demás de sus hechos, y todos sus caminos, primeros y postreros, he aquí está escrito en el libro de los reyes de Judá y de Israel. ^28:27Y durmió Acaz con sus padres, y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de Jerusalén; pero no le metieron en los sepulcros de los reyes de Israel; y reinó en su lugar Ezequías su hijo.
