And all Judah brought presents to Jehoshaphat; and he had riches and honor in abundance. ^17:6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of Jehovah; moreover he took away the high places and images of Asherah out of Judah.

^17:7Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben-hail, to Obadiah, to Zechariah, to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah. ^17:8And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, Nethaniah, Zebadiah, Asahel, Shemiramoth, Jehonathan, Adonijah, Tobijah, and Tob-adonijah: Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram: priests. ^17:9And they taught in Judah, and had the Book of the Law of Jehovah with them, and went around throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

^17:10And the fear of Jehovah fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat. ^17:11Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks: seven thousand, seven hundred rams, and seven thousand, seven hundred male goats.

^17:12And Jehoshaphat became very powerful; and he built fortresses and cities of store in Judah. ^17:13And he had much business in the cities of Judah. And the men of war, mighty men of valor, were in Jerusalem. ^17:14And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: of Judah, the captains of thousands: Adnah the chief; and with him were three hundred thousand mighty men of valor. ^17:15And next to him was Jehohanan the captain; and with him were two hundred and eighty thousand men. ^17:16And next to him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself to Jehovah; and with him were two hundred thousand mighty men of valor. ^17:17And of Benjamin: Eliada a mighty man of valor; and with him were two hundred thousand men armed with bow and shield. ^17:18And next to him was Jehozabad; and with him were one hundred and eighty thousand men ready prepared for the war. ^17:19These all waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fortified cities throughout all Judah.

^18:1Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honor in abundance; and he made an alliance with Ahab.

^18:2And after a number of years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that he had with him, and persuaded him to go up with him to Ramoth-gilead. ^18:3And Ahab king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat king of Judah, “Will you go with me to Ramoth-gilead?” And he answered him, “I am as you are, and my people as your people; and we will be with you in the war.”

^18:4And Jehoshaphat said to the king of Israel, “Please inquire at the Word of Jehovah today.” ^18:5Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of false prophets four hundred men, and he said to them, “Shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” And they said, “Go up: for God will deliver it into the king’s hand!” ^18:6But Jehoshaphat said, “Is there not a prophet of Jehovah here besides them, that we might inquire of him?” ^18:7And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “There is yet one man, by whom we may inquire of Jehovah; but I hate him, because he never prophesied good to me, but always evil; the same is Micaiah the son of Imla.” And Jehoshaphat said, “Let not the king say so.” ^18:8And the king of Israel called for one of his officers, and said, “Bring quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.” ^18:9And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in their robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the false prophets prophesied before them. ^18:10And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, “Thus says Jehovah: ‘You shall push Syria with these until they are consumed.’” ^18:11And all the false prophets prophesied so, saying, “Go up to Ramoth-gilead, and prosper: for Jehovah shall deliver it into the hand of the king!” ^18:12And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spoke to him, saying, “Behold, the words of the prophets declare good to the king with one assent; please, let your word therefore be like one of theirs, and speak good.” ^18:13And Micaiah said, “As Jehovah lives, even what my God says, that will I speak.”

^18:14And when he came to the king, the king said to him, “Micaiah, shall we go to Ramoth-gilead to battle, or shall I forbear?” And he said mockingly, “Go up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand!” ^18:15And the king said to him, “How many times shall I adjure you that you say nothing but the truth to me in the Name of Jehovah?” ^18:16Then he said, “I saw all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd; and Jehovah said, ‘These have no master; therefore let them return every man to his house in peace.’” ^18:17And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, “Did I not tell you that he would not prophesy good to me, but evil?” ^18:18Again he said, “Therefore hear the Word of Jehovah, ‘I saw Jehovah sitting upon his throne, and all the host of Heaven standing on his right hand and on his left. ^18:19And Jehovah said, ‘Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramoth-gilead?’ And one spoke, saying after this manner; and another saying after that manner. ^18:20Then an evil spirit came out, and stood before Jehovah, and said, ‘I will entice him.’ And Jehovah said to him, ‘How?’ ^18:21And he said, ‘I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And Jehovah said, ‘You shall entice him, and you shall also prevail; go out, and do so.’’ ^18:22Now therefore, behold, Jehovah has put a lying spirit in the mouth of these your prophets; and Jehovah has spoken evil against you.”

^18:23Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and struck Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, “Which way went the Spirit of Jehovah from me to speak to you?” ^18:24And Micaiah said, “Behold, you shall see on that day when you shall go into an inner chamber to hide yourself.” ^18:25Then the king of Israel said, “Take Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son; ^18:26and say, ‘Thus says the king: ‘Put this man in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.’’” ^18:27And Micaiah said, “If you certainly return in peace, then Jehovah has not spoken by me.” And he said, “Listen, all you people.”

^18:30Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that were with him, saying, “Do not fight with small or great, except only with the king of Israel.” ^18:31And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, “It is the king of Israel.” Therefore they surrounded him to fight. But Jehoshaphat cried out to God, and Jehovah helped him; and God moved them away from him: ^18:32for it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him. ^18:33And a certain man drew a bow at random, and struck the king of Israel between the joints of the harness with an arrow. Therefore he said to his chariot man, “Turn your hand, that you may carry me out of the army: for I am wounded.” ^18:34And the battle increased that day; nevertheless the king of Israel stayed himself up in his chariot against the Syrians until the evening; and about the time of the sun going down he died.

^19:1And Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned to his house in peace to Jerusalem. ^19:2And Jehu the son of Hanani the Seer went out to meet him, and said to king Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the ungodly, and love them that hate Jehovah? Therefore wrath is upon you from before Jehovah. ^19:3Nevertheless there are good things found in you, in that you have taken away the images of Asherah out of the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.”

^19:4And Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim; and he brought them back to Jehovah God of their fathers. ^19:5And he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city; ^19:6and he said to the judges, “Take heed what you do: for you do not judge for man, but for Jehovah, who is with you in the judgment. ^19:7Now therefore, let the fear of Jehovah be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with Jehovah our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of bribes.”

^19:8Moreover in Jerusalem did Jehoshaphat set of the Levites, and of the priests, and of the chief of the fathers of Israel, for the judgment of Jehovah, and for controversies, when they returned to Jerusalem. ^19:9And he charged them, saying, “Thus shall you do in the fear of Jehovah, faithfully, and with a loyal heart. ^19:10And whatsoever cause shall come to you of your brethren that dwell in their cities, between blood and blood, between Law and Commandment, Statutes and Judgments, you shall even warn them that they do not trespass against Jehovah, and so wrath come upon you, and upon your brethren; do this, and you shall not trespass. ^19:11And, behold, Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of Jehovah; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; also the Levites shall be officers before you. Deal courageously, and Jehovah shall be with the good.”

^20:1It came to pass after this also, that the children of Moab, and the children of Ammon, and with them others beside the Ammonites, came against Jehoshaphat to make war.

^20:2Then there came some that told Jehoshaphat, saying, “A great multitude is coming against you from beyond the sea on this side of Syria; and, behold, they are in Hazazon-tamar, which is En-gedi.” ^20:3And Jehoshaphat was afraid, and set himself to seek Jehovah. And he proclaimed a fast throughout all Judah. ^20:4And Judah gathered themselves together, to ask help of Jehovah: even out of all the cities of Judah they came to seek Jehovah.

^20:5And Jehoshaphat stood in the congregation of Judah and Jerusalem, in the House of Jehovah, before the new court; ^20:6and he said, “O Jehovah God of our fathers, are you not God in Heaven? And do you not rule over all the kingdoms of the heathen? And in your hand is there not power and might, so that none are able to withstand you? ^20:7Are you not our God, who drove out the inhabitants of this land before your people Israel, and gave it to the seed of Abraham your friend forever? ^20:8And they dwelt in it, and have built you a Sanctuary in it for your Name, saying, ^20:9‘If, when evil comes upon us, as the sword, judgment, or plague, or famine, and we stand before this House, and in your presence (for your Name is in this House), and cry to you in our affliction, then you will hear and help.’ ^20:10And now, behold, the children of Ammon and Moab and mount Seir, whom you would not let Israel invade, when they came out of the land of Egypt, but they turned from them, and did not destroy them. ^20:11Behold, I say, how they reward us, to come to cast us out of your possession, which you have given us to inherit. ^20:12O our God, will you not judge them? For we have no might against this great company that comes against us; neither do we know what to do, but our eyes are upon you.” ^20:13And all Judah stood before Jehovah, with their little ones, their wives, and their children.

^20:14Then the Spirit of Jehovah came upon Jahaziel the son of Zechariah, the son of Benaiah, the son of Jeiel, the son of Mattaniah, a Levite of the sons of Asaph, in the midst of the congregation; ^20:15and he said, “Listen, all Judah, you inhabitants of Jerusalem, and you king Jehoshaphat! Thus says Jehovah to you: ‘Be not afraid nor dismayed by reason of this great multitude: for the battle is not yours, but God’s. ^20:16Tomorrow go down against them; behold, they come up by the cliff of Ziz; and you shall find them at the end of the brook, before the wilderness of Jeruel. ^20:17You shall not need to fight in this battle. Set yourselves, stand still, and see the deliverance of Jehovah with you, O Judah and Jerusalem; fear not, nor be dismayed. Tomorrow, go out against them: for Jehovah will be with you.’”

^20:18And Jehoshaphat bowed his head with his face to the ground; and all Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem fell before Jehovah, worshipping Jehovah. ^20:19And the Levites, of the children of the Kohathites, and of the children of the Korhites, stood up to praise Jehovah God of Israel, with a loud voice on high.

¶Complement   Jehovah smote the armies of the invading armies before Jehoshaphat (2 Chronicles 20:20 - 30)

^20:20And they rose early in the morning, and went forth into the wilderness of Tekoa; and as they went forth, Jehoshaphat stood and said, “Hear me, O Judah, and you inhabitants of Jerusalem: believe in Jehovah your God, so shall you be established! Believe his prophets, so shall you prosper!”

^20:21And when he had consulted with the people, he appointed singers to Jehovah, that should praise the beauty of holiness, as they went out before the army, and to say, “Praise Jehovah: for his mercy endures forever!” ^20:22And when they began to sing and to praise, Jehovah set ambushes against the children of Ammon, Moab, and mount Seir, which came against Judah; and they were smitten: ^20:23for the children of Ammon and Moab stood up against the inhabitants of mount Seir, utterly to slay and destroy them; and when they had made an end of the inhabitants of Seir, every one helped to destroy another. ^20:24And when Judah came toward the watch tower in the wilderness, they looked to the multitude; and, behold, they were all dead bodies fallen to the earth, and none escaped.

^20:25And when Jehoshaphat and his people came to take away their plunder, they found among them in abundance both riches with the dead bodies, and precious jewels, which they stripped off for themselves, more than they could carry away; and they were three days in gathering of the plunder, it was so much. ^20:26And on the fourth day they assembled themselves in the valley of Berachah: for they blessed Jehovah there; therefore the name of the same place was called, “The valley of Berachah”, until this day.

^20:27Then they returned, every man of Judah and Jerusalem, and Jehoshaphat in the forefront of them, to go again to Jerusalem with joy: for Jehovah had made them to rejoice over their enemies. ^20:28And they came to Jerusalem with psalteries and harps and trumpets to the House of Jehovah.

^20:29And the fear of God was on all the kingdoms of those countries, when they had heard that Jehovah fought against the enemies of Israel. ^20:30So the realm of Jehoshaphat was quiet: for his God gave him rest round about.

^20:31And Jehoshaphat reigned over Judah: he was thirty-five years old when he began to reign, and he reigned twenty-five years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Azubah the daughter of Shilhi.

^20:32And he walked in the way of Asa his father, and did not depart from it, doing right in the sight of Jehovah. ^20:33Nevertheless the high places were not taken away: for as yet the people had not prepared their hearts to the God of their fathers.

^20:34Now the rest of the acts of Jehoshaphat, first and last, behold, they are written in the book of Jehu the son of Hanani, who is mentioned in the book of the kings of Israel.

^20:35And after this, Jehoshaphat king of Judah allied himself with Ahaziah king of Israel, who did very wickedly. ^20:36And he joined himself with him to make ships to go to Tarshish; and they made the ships in Ezion-gaber.

^20:37Then Eliezer the son of Dodavah of Mareshah prophesied against Jehoshaphat, saying, “Because you have joined yourself with Ahaziah, Jehovah has broken your works.” And the ships were broken, so that they were not able to go to Tarshish.

^21:1Now Jehoshaphat slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David; and Jehoram his son reigned in his place.

^21:2And he had brethren the sons of Jehoshaphat: Azariah, Jehiel, Zechariah, Azariah, Michael, and Shephatiah: all these were the sons of Jehoshaphat king of Israel.

^21:3And their father gave them great gifts of silver, of gold, and of precious things, with fortified cities in Judah.

But he gave the kingdom to Jehoram, because he was the firstborn.

^21:4Now when Jehoram was elevated to the kingdom of his father, he strengthened himself; and he murdered all of his brothers with the sword, and many also of the princes of Israel.

^21:8In his days the Edomites revolted from under the rule of Judah; and made themselves a king. ^21:9Then Jehoram went forth with his princes, and all his chariots with him; and he rose up by night, and smote the Edomites which surrounded him, and the captains of the chariots. ^21:10Nevertheless the Edomites revolted from under the hand of Judah until this day. At the same time, Libnah also revolted from under his hand, because he had forsaken Jehovah God of his fathers. ^21:11Moreover he made high places in the mountains of Judah; and caused the inhabitants of Jerusalem to commit fornication, and compelled Judah to it. ^21:12And a writing came to him from Elijah the prophet, saying, “Thus says Jehovah God of David your father: ‘Because you have not walked in the ways of Jehoshaphat your father, nor in the ways of Asa king of Judah, ^21:13but have walked in the way of the kings of Israel, and have made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to go a whoring, like the whoredoms of the house of Ahab, and also have slain your brothers of your father’s house, who were better than yourself: ^21:14behold, with a great plague will Jehovah smite your people, and your children, and your wives, and all your goods; ^21:15and you shall have great sickness by disease of your bowels, until your bowels fall out by reason of the sickness day by day.’”

^21:16Moreover Jehovah stirred up against Jehoram the spirit of the Philistines, and of the Arabians, that were near the Ethiopians; ^21:17and they came up into Judah, and invaded it, and carried away all the substance that was found in the king’s house; and also his sons and his wives, so that there was no son left him, except Jehoahaz, the youngest of his sons. ^21:18And after all this Jehovah smote him in his bowels with an incurable disease.

^21:19And it came to pass, that in process of time, after the end of two years, his bowels fell out by reason of his sickness, so he died of terrible diseases. And his people made no burning for him, like the burning of his fathers. ^21:20Thirty-two years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned in Jerusalem eight years, and departed without being desired. Nevertheless they buried him in the city of David, but not in the graves of the kings.

^22:3He also walked in the ways of the house of Ahab: for his mother was his advisor to do wickedness. ^22:4Therefore he did evil in the sight of Jehovah like the house of Ahab: for they were his advisors after the death of his father to his destruction.

^22:5Also he walked after their counsel, and went with Jehoram the son of Ahab king of Israel to make war against Hazael king of Syria at Ramoth-gilead; and the Syrians smote Joram. ^22:6And he returned to be healed in Jezreel because of the wounds which were given him at Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. And Ahaziah the son of Jehoram king of Judah went down to see Jehoram the son of Ahab at Jezreel, because he was sick. ^22:7And the destruction of Ahaziah was of God by coming to Joram: for when he came, he went out with Jehoram against Jehu the son of Nimshi, whom Jehovah had anointed to cut off the house of Ahab. ^22:8And it came to pass, that, when Jehu was executing judgment upon the house of Ahab, and he found the princes of Judah, and the sons of the brethren of Ahaziah, that ministered to Ahaziah, he executed them. ^22:9And he searched for Ahaziah; and they caught him (for he was hidden in Samaria), and brought him to Jehu. And when they had slain him, they buried him; because they said, “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought Jehovah with all of his heart.”

So the house of Ahaziah had no power to retain the kingdom.

¶El complemento   Ocozías fue asesinado por Jehú, porque estaba aliado con la malvada familia de Acab (2 Crónicas 22:1 - 9)

§Único   Introducción: Josafat comenzó bien, pero él hizo una mala alianza con Acab (2 Crónicas 17:1 - 18:27)

¶Lo opuesto   Josafat fue bendecido, porque caminó en la Ley de Moisés (2 Crónicas 17:1 - 19)

^17:1Y reinó en su lugar Josafat su hijo, el cual prevaleció contra Israel. ^17:2Y puso ejército en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, y colocó gente de guarnición en tierra de Judá, y asimismo en las ciudades de Efraín que su padre Asa había tomado.

^17:3Y Jehová fue con Josafat: porque anduvo en los primeros caminos de David su padre, y no buscó a los Baales; ^17:4sino que buscó al Dios de su padre, y anduvo en sus Mandamientos, y no según las obras de Israel. ^17:5Jehová por tanto confirmó el reino en su mano, y todo Judá dio a Josafat presentes; y tuvo riqueza y gloria en abundancia. ^17:6Y se animó su corazón en los caminos de Jehová, y quitó los lugares altos y las imágenes de Asera de en medio de Judá.

^17:7Al tercer año de su reinado envió sus príncipes Ben-hail, Abdías, Zacarías, Natanael y Micaías, para que enseñasen en las ciudades de Judá; ^17:8y con ellos a los levitas, Semaías, Netanías, Zebadías, y Asael, y Semiramot, y Jonatán, y Adonías, y Tobías, y Tobadonías, levitas; y con ellos a los sacerdotes Elisama y Joram. ^17:9Y enseñaron en Judá, teniendo consigo el libro de la Ley de Jehová, y recorrieron todas las ciudades de Judá enseñando al pueblo.

^17:10Y cayó el pavor de Jehová sobre todos los reinos de las tierras que estaban alrededor de Judá; que no osaron hacer guerra contra Josafat. ^17:11Y traían de los filisteos presentes a Josafat, y tributos de plata. Los árabes también le trajeron ganados, siete mil setecientos carneros y siete mil setecientos machos cabríos.

^17:12Y Josafat fue engrandeciéndose más y más; y edificó en Judá fortalezas y ciudades de abastecimiento. ^17:13Tuvo además muchos negocios en las ciudades de Judá, y hombres de guerra muy valientes en Jerusalén. ^17:14Y éste es el número de ellos según las casas de sus padres: de Judá, los capitanes de millares; el general Adna, y con él trescientos mil hombres muy valientes. ^17:15Después de él, el jefe Johanán, y con él doscientos ochenta mil. ^17:16Tras éste, Amasías hijo de Zicri, el cual se había ofrecido voluntariamente a Jehová, y con él doscientos mil hombres valientes. ^17:17De Benjamín, Eliada, hombre muy valeroso, y con él doscientos mil armados de arco y escudo. ^17:18Tras éste, Jozabad, y con él ciento ochenta mil apercibidos para la guerra. ^17:19Éstos eran siervos del rey, sin contar los que el rey había puesto en las ciudades fortificadas por toda Judá.

¶Lo opuesto   Josafat hizo una tonta alianza con Acab (2 Crónicas 18:1 - 27)

^18:1Tenía, pues, Josafat riquezas y gloria en abundancia, y trabó parentesco con Acab.

^18:2Y después de algunos años descendió a Acab a Samaria; por lo que mató Acab muchas ovejas y bueyes para él, y para la gente que con él venía; y le persuadió que fuese con él a Ramot de Galaad. ^18:3Y dijo Acab rey de Israel a Josafat rey de Judá, “¿Quieres venir conmigo a Ramot de Galaad?”. Y él respondió, “Yo soy como tú, y mi pueblo como tu pueblo; iremos contigo a la guerra”.

^18:4Además dijo Josafat al rey de Israel, “Te ruego que consultes hoy la Palabra de Jehová”. ^18:5Entonces el rey de Israel juntó cuatrocientos profetas, y les dijo, “¿Iremos a la guerra contra Ramot de Galaad, o me estaré yo quieto?”. Y dijeron, “Sube: porque Dios los entregará en mano del rey”. ^18:6Pero Josafat dijo, “¿Hay aún aquí algún Profeta de Jehová, para que por medio de él preguntemos?”. ^18:7Y el rey de Israel respondió a Josafat, “Aún hay aquí un hombre por el cual podemos preguntar a Jehová; pero yo le aborrezco: porque nunca me profetiza cosa buena, sino siempre mal. Éste es Micaías, hijo de Imla”. Y respondió Josafat, “No hable así el rey”. ^18:8Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a un oficial, y le dijo, “Haz venir luego a Micaías hijo de Imla”. ^18:9Y el rey de Israel y Josafat rey de Judá, estaban sentados cada uno en su trono, vestidos de sus vestiduras reales; y estaban sentados en la era a la entrada de la puerta de Samaria, y todos los profetas profetizaban delante de ellos. ^18:10Y Sedequías hijo de Quenaana se había hecho cuernos de hierro, y decía, “Así dice Jehová, ‘Con éstos acornearás a los Sirios hasta destruirlos del todo’”. ^18:11De esta manera profetizaban también todos los profetas, diciendo, “Sube a Ramot de Galaad, y sé prosperado: porque Jehová la entregará en mano del rey”. ^18:12Y el mensajero que había ido a llamar a Micaías, le habló, diciendo, “He aquí las palabras de los profetas a una voz anuncian al rey bienes; yo, pues, te ruego que tu palabra sea como la de uno de ellos, que hables bien”. ^18:13Y dijo Micaías, “Vive Jehová, que lo que mi Dios me dijere, eso hablaré”.

^18:14Y vino al rey. Y el rey le dijo, “Micaías, ¿iremos a pelear contra Ramot de Galaad, o me estaré yo quieto?”. Y él respondió, “Subid, que seréis prosperados, que serán entregados en vuestras manos”. ^18:15Y el rey le dijo, “¿Hasta cuántas veces te conjuraré por el Nombre de Jehová que no me hables sino la verdad?”. ^18:16Entonces él dijo, “He visto a todo Israel derramado por los montes como ovejas sin pastor; y dijo Jehová, ‘Éstos no tienen señor; vuélvase cada uno en paz a su casa’”. ^18:17Y el rey de Israel dijo a Josafat, “¿No te había yo dicho que no me profetizaría bien, sino mal?”. ^18:18Entonces él dijo, “Oíd, pues, Palabra de Jehová, ‘Yo he visto a Jehová sentado en su trono, y todo el ejército del Cielo estaba a su mano derecha y a su izquierda. ^18:19Y Jehová dijo, ‘¿Quién inducirá a Acab rey de Israel, para que suba y caiga en Ramot de Galaad?’ Y uno decía así, y otro decía de otra manera. ^18:20Pero salió un espíritu, que se puso delante de Jehová, y dijo, ‘Yo le induciré’. Y Jehová le dijo, ‘¿De qué modo?’ ^18:21Y él dijo, ‘Saldré y seré espíritu de mentira en la boca de todos los profetas’. Y Jehová dijo, ‘Incita, y también prevalece; sal, y hazlo así’’. ^18:22Y he aquí ahora ha puesto Jehová espíritu de mentira en la boca de estos tus profetas; pero Jehová ha decretado el mal acerca de ti”.

^18:23Entonces Sedequías hijo de Quenaana se le acercó y golpeó a Micaías en la mejilla, y dijo, “¿Por qué camino se apartó de mí el Espíritu de Jehová para hablarte a ti?”. ^18:24Y Micaías respondió, “He aquí tú lo verás aquel día, cuando entrarás de cámara en cámara para esconderte”. ^18:25Entonces el rey de Israel dijo, “Tomad a Micaías, y volvedlo a Amón gobernador de la ciudad, y a Joás hijo del rey. ^18:26Y diréis, ‘El rey ha dicho así, ‘Poned a éste en la cárcel, y sustentadle con pan de aflicción y agua de angustia, hasta que yo vuelva en paz’’”. ^18:27Y Micaías dijo, “Si tú volvieres en paz, Jehová no ha hablado por mí”. Dijo además, “Oídlo, pueblos todos”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: El ejército de Josafat fue victorioso, porque confiaron en Jehová para librarlos (2 Crónicas 16:28 - 21:3)

¶Único   Josafat regresó a Jerusalén, asustado por su encuentro cercano con la muerte y más decidido que nunca a servir a Jehová (2 Crónicas 16:28 - 19:11)

^18:28Subió, pues, el rey de Israel, y Josafat rey de Judá, a Ramot de Galaad. ^18:29Y dijo el rey de Israel a Josafat, “Yo me disfrazaré para entrar en la batalla, pero tú vístete tus vestiduras reales”. Y se disfrazó el rey de Israel, y entraron en la batalla.

^18:30Había el rey de Siria mandado a los capitanes de los carros que tenía consigo, diciendo, “No peleéis contra chico ni contra grande, sino sólo contra el rey de Israel”. ^18:31Y como los capitanes de los carros vieron a Josafat, dijeron, “Éste es el rey de Israel”. Y lo cercaron para pelear; pero Josafat clamó, y lo ayudó Jehová, y los apartó Dios de él: ^18:32pues viendo los capitanes de los carros que no era el rey de Israel, desistieron de acosarle. ^18:33Pero disparando uno el arco a la ventura, hirió al rey de Israel entre las junturas y el coselete. Él entonces dijo al carretero, “Vuelve tu mano, y sácame del campo: porque estoy mal herido”. ^18:34Y arreció la batalla aquel día, por lo que estuvo el rey de Israel en pie en el carro enfrente de los Sirios hasta la tarde; pero murió a la puesta del sol.

^19:1Y Josafat rey de Judá se volvió en paz a su casa en Jerusalén. ^19:2Y le salió al encuentro Jehú el vidente, hijo de Hanani, y dijo al rey Josafat, “¿Al impío das ayuda, y amas a los que aborrecen a Jehová? Pues la ira de la presencia de Jehová será sobre ti por ello. ^19:3Pero se han hallado en ti buenas cosas: porque cortaste de la tierra las imágenes de Asera, y has dispuesto tu corazón para buscar a Dios”.

^19:4Habitó, pues, Josafat en Jerusalén; pero daba vuelta y salía al pueblo, desde Beerseba hasta el monte de Efraín, y los conducía a Jehová el Dios de sus padres. ^19:5Y puso jueces en la tierra, en todas las ciudades fortificadas de Judá, por todas las ciudades. ^19:6Y dijo a los jueces, “Mirad lo que hacéis: porque no juzgáis en lugar de hombre, sino en lugar de Jehová, el cual está con ustedes cuando juzgáis. ^19:7Sea, pues, con ustedes el temor de Jehová; guardad y haced: porque en Jehová nuestro Dios no hay iniquidad, ni acepción de personas, ni recibir cohecho”.

^19:8Y puso también Josafat en Jerusalén algunos de los levitas y sacerdotes, y de los padres de familias de Israel, para el juicio de Jehová y para las causas. Y se volvieron a Jerusalén. ^19:9Y les mandó, diciendo, “Procederéis asimismo con temor de Jehová, con verdad, y con corazón íntegro. ^19:10En cualquier causa que viniere a ustedes de vuestros hermanos que habitan en las ciudades, entre sangre y sangre, entre Ley y Precepto, Estatutos y Derechos, habéis de amonestarles que no pequen contra Jehová: porque no venga ira sobre ustedes y sobre vuestros hermanos. Haciendo así no pecaréis. ^19:11Y he aquí Amarías el sacerdote será el que os presida en todo asunto de Jehová; y Zebadías hijo de Ismael, príncipe de la casa de Judá, en todos los negocios del rey; también los levitas serán oficiales en presencia de ustedes. Actuad con valentía, y Jehová será con el bueno”.

¶El complemento   Josafat dirigió a Judá en oración para buscar ayuda de Jehová contra los ejércitos invasores (2 Crónicas 20:1 - 19)

^20:1Pasadas estas cosas, aconteció que los hijos de Moab y de Amón, y con ellos otros además de los amonitas, vinieron contra Josafat a la guerra.

^20:2Entonces vinieron algunos y dieron aviso a Josafat, diciendo, “Viene contra ti una grande multitud del otro lado del mar, y de este lado de Siria; y he aquí ellos están en Hazezón-tamar, que es Engadi”. ^20:3Y Josafat tuvo temor; y puso su rostro para consultar a Jehová, e hizo pregonar ayuno a todo Judá. ^20:4Y se reunieron los de Judá para pedir socorro a Jehová, y también de todas las ciudades de Judá vinieron a buscar a Jehová.

^20:5Entonces Josafat se puso en pie en la congregación de Judá y de Jerusalén, en la Casa de Jehová, delante del atrio nuevo; ^20:6y dijo, “Oh Jehová Dios de nuestros padres, ¿no eres tú Dios en los Cielo, y señoreas sobre todos los reinos de las naciones? ¿No está en tu mano tal fuerza y poder, que no hay quien te resista? ^20:7¿No eres tú nuestro Dios, que echaste a los moradores de esta tierra delante de tu pueblo Israel, y la diste a la simiente de Abraham tu amigo para siempre? ^20:8Y ellos han habitado en ella, y te han edificado en ella Santuario a tu Nombre, diciendo, ^20:9‘Si mal viniere sobre nosotros, o espada de castigo, o pestilencia, o hambre, nos presentaremos delante de esta casa, y delante de ti (porque tu Nombre está en esta Casa), y en nuestras tribulaciones clamaremos a ti, y tú oirás y nos ayudarás’. ^20:10Ahora, pues, he aquí los hijos de Amón y de Moab, y los del monte de Seir, a quienes no permitiste que Israel invadiese cuando venía de la tierra de Egipto, por lo cual se apartaron de ellos y no los destruyeron; ^20:11he aquí, ahora ellos nos pagan viniendo a echarnos de la heredad que tú nos diste en posesión. ^20:12¡Oh Dios nuestro! ¿No los juzgarás tú? Porque en nosotros no hay fuerza contra tan grande multitud que viene contra nosotros y no sabemos qué hacer, pero a ti volvemos nuestros ojos.” ^20:13Y todo Judá estaba en pie delante de Jehová, con sus niños, sus esposas y sus hijos.

^20:14Y estaba allí Jahaziel hijo de Zacarías, hijo de Benaía, hijo de Jeiel, hijo de Matanías, levita de los hijos de Asaf, sobre el cual vino el Espíritu de Jehová en medio de la congregación, ^20:15y dijo, “Oíd, todo Judá, y ustedes moradores de Jerusalén, y tú, rey Josafat. Jehová os dice así, ‘No temáis ni os amedrentéis delante de esta tan grande multitud: porque la batalla no es vuestra, sino de Dios. ^20:16Mañana descenderéis contra ellos; he aquí que ellos subirán por la cuesta de Sis, y los hallaréis junto al arroyo, antes del desierto de Jeruel. ^20:17No habrá para qué peleéis ustedes en este caso; paraos, estaos quietos, y ved la salvación de Jehová con ustedes. Oh Judá y Jerusalén, no temáis ni desmayéis; salid mañana contra ellos: porque Jehová será con ustedes’”.

^20:18Entonces Josafat se inclinó rostro en tierra, y asimismo todo Judá y los moradores de Jerusalén se postraron delante de Jehová, y adoraron a Jehová. ^20:19Y se levantaron los levitas de los hijos de Coat y de los hijos de Coré, para alabar a Jehová el Dios de Israel a fuerte y alta voz.

¶El complemento   Jehová hirió a los ejércitos invasores antes de Josafat (2 Crónicas 20:20 - 30)

^20:20Y se levantaron muy de mañana y salieron al desierto de Tecoa. Y mientras ellos salían, Josafat, estando en pie, dijo, “Oídme, Judá y moradores de Jerusalén. Creed en Jehová vuestro Dios, y estaréis seguros; creed a sus Profetas, y seréis prosperados”.

^20:21Y habiendo consultado con el pueblo, puso a algunos que cantasen a Jehová, y alabasen en la hermosura de la santidad, mientras salían delante del ejército, y que dijesen, “¡Glorificad a Jehová: porque su misericordia es para siempre!”. ^20:22Y cuando comenzaron a cantar y a alabar, Jehová puso emboscadas contra los hijos de Amón, de Moab, y del monte de Seir, que habían venido contra Judá; y fueron derrotados: ^20:23pues los hijos de Amón y Moab se levantaron contra los del monte de Seir, para matarlos y destruirlos; y como hubieron acabado a los del monte de Seir, cada cual ayudó a la destrucción de su compañero. ^20:24Y luego que vino Judá a la atalaya del desierto, miraron hacia la multitud; pero he aquí yacían ellos en tierra muertos, ninguno había escapado.

^20:25Viniendo entonces Josafat y su pueblo a despojarlos, hallaron en ellos muchas riquezas entre los cadáveres, así vestiduras como joyas preciosas, las cuales tomaron para sí, tantas, que no las podían llevar; tres días duró el despojo: porque era mucho. ^20:26Y al cuarto día se juntaron en el valle de Beraca: porque allí bendijeron a Jehová, y por esto llamaron el nombre de aquel paraje el valle de Beraca, hasta hoy.

^20:27Y todo Judá y los de Jerusalén, y Josafat a la cabeza de ellos, volvieron para tornarse a Jerusalén con gozo: porque Jehová les había dado gozo sobre sus enemigos. ^20:28Y vinieron a Jerusalén, a la Casa de Jehová, con salterios, arpas, y trompetas.

^20:29Y el pavor de Dios cayó sobre todos los reinos de aquella tierra, cuando oyeron que Jehová había peleado contra los enemigos de Israel. ^20:30Y el reino de Josafat tuvo reposo: porque su Dios le dio reposo por todas partes.

¶Lo opuesto   Las buenas obras de Josafat fueron arruinadas por su malvada alianza con Ajazías (2 Crónicas 20:31 - 37)

^20:31Así reinó Josafat sobre Judá. Treinta y cinco años tenía cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó veinticinco años en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Azuba, hija de Silhi.

^20:32Y anduvo en el camino de Asa su padre, sin apartarse de él, haciendo lo recto ante los ojos de Jehová. ^20:33Con todo eso los lugares altos no eran quitados; pues el pueblo aún no había enderezado su corazón al Dios de sus padres.

^20:34Lo demás de los hechos de Josafat, primeros y postreros, he aquí están escritos en las palabras de Jehú hijo de Hanani, del cual es hecha mención en el libro de los reyes de Israel.

^20:35Pasadas estas cosas, Josafat rey de Judá trabó amistad con Ocozías rey de Israel, el cual fue dado a la impiedad; ^20:36e hizo con él compañía para construir navíos que fuesen a Tarsis; y construyeron los navíos en Ezión-geber.

^20:37Entonces Eliezer hijo de Dodava de Maresa, profetizó contra Josafat, diciendo, “Por cuanto has hecho compañía con Ocozías, Jehová destruirá tus obras”. Y los navíos se rompieron, y no pudieron ir a Tarsis.

¶Lo opuesto   La posteridad de Josafat fue destruida al darle el Reino a su primogénito Joram (2 Crónicas 21:1 - 4)

^21:1Y durmió Josafat con sus padres, y lo sepultaron con sus padres en la ciudad de David; Y Joram su hijo reinó en su lugar.

^21:2Éste tuvo hermanos, hijos de Josafat: Azarías, Jehiel, Zacarías, Azarías, Micael, y Sefatías. Todos éstos fueron hijos de Josafat rey de Israel.

^21:3Y su padre les había dado muchos dones de oro y de plata, y cosas preciosas, y ciudades fortificadas en Judá.

Pero había dado el reino a Joram: porque él era el primogénito.

^21:4Ahora cuando Joram ascendió al reino de su padre, y se hizo fuerte, mató a espada a todos sus hermanos, y asimismo algunos de los príncipes de Israel.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El hijo y el nieto de Josafat fueron muertos por la ira de Dios (2 Crónicas 21:5 - 22:9)

¶El complemento   Joram murió de terrible enfermedad, porque caminó en los caminos de la malvada familia de Acab (2 Crónicas 21:5 - 20)

^21:5Joram tenía treinta y dos años cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó ocho años en Jerusalén. ^21:6Y anduvo en el camino de los reyes de Israel, como hizo la casa de Acab: porque tenía por esposa a la hija de Acab, e hizo lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová.

^21:7Pero Jehová no quiso destruir la casa de David, a causa del pacto que había hecho con David, y porque le había dicho que le daría lámpara a él y a sus hijos perpetuamente.

^21:8En los días de éste los edomitas se rebelaron contra el dominio de Judá, y pusieron rey sobre sí. ^21:9Entonces pasó Joram con sus príncipes, y consigo todos sus carros; y se levantó de noche, e hirió a los edomitas que le habían cercado, y a todos los comandantes de sus carros. ^21:10Así que los edomitas se rebelaron contra la mano de Judá hasta hoy. También se rebeló en el mismo tiempo Libna para no estar bajo su mano; por cuanto él había dejado a Jehová el Dios de sus padres. ^21:11Además de esto edificó lugares altos en los montes de Judá, e hizo que los moradores de Jerusalén fornicasen, y a lo mismo impelió a Judá. ^21:12Y le vino una carta del Profeta Elías que decía, “Jehová el Dios de David tu padre ha dicho así, ‘Por cuanto no has andado en los caminos de Josafat tu padre, ni en los caminos de Asa, rey de Judá, ^21:13sino que has andado en el camino de los reyes de Israel, y has hecho que fornicase Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén, como fornicó la casa de Acab; y además has dado muerte a tus hermanos, a la familia de tu padre, los cuales eran mejores que tú. ^21:14He aquí Jehová herirá a tu pueblo de una gran plaga, y a tus hijos y a tus esposas, y a toda tu hacienda; ^21:15y a ti con muchas enfermedades, con enfermedad de tus intestinos, hasta que los intestinos se te salgan a causa de tu enfermedad día tras día’”.

^21:16Entonces despertó Jehová contra Joram el espíritu de los filisteos, y de los árabes que estaban junto a los Etíopes; ^21:17y subieron contra Judá, e invadieron la tierra, y tomaron toda la hacienda que hallaron en la casa del rey, y a sus hijos, y a sus esposas; que no le quedó hijo, sino Joacaz el menor de sus hijos. ^21:18Después de todo esto Jehová lo hirió en las entrañas de una enfermedad incurable.

^21:19Y aconteció que, en el transcurrir de los días, al cabo de dos años, las entrañas se le salieron con la enfermedad, muriendo así de enfermedad muy penosa. Y no le hizo quema su pueblo, como lo habían hecho a sus padres. ^21:20Cuando comenzó a reinar era de treinta y dos años, y reinó en Jerusalén ocho años; y se fue sin ser deseado. Y lo sepultaron en la ciudad de David, pero no en los sepulcros de los reyes.

¶El complemento   Ocozías fue asesinado por Jehú, porque estaba aliado con la malvada familia de Acab (2 Crónicas 22:1 - 9)

^22:1Y los moradores de Jerusalén hicieron rey en lugar suyo a Ocozías su hijo menor: porque la tropa había venido con los árabes al campamento y había dado muerte a todos los mayores; por lo cual reinó Ocozías, hijo de Joram rey de Judá.

^22:2Cuarenta y dos años tenía Ocozías cuando comenzó a reinar, y reinó un año en Jerusalén. El nombre de su madre fue Atalía, hija de Omri.

^22:3También él anduvo en los caminos de la casa de Acab: porque su madre le aconsejaba a que hiciese impíamente. ^22:4Hizo, pues, lo malo ante los ojos de Jehová, como la casa de Acab: porque después de la muerte de su padre, ellos le aconsejaron para su perdición.

^22:5Y él anduvo en los consejos de ellos, y fue a la guerra con Joram hijo de Acab, rey de Israel, contra Hazael rey de Siria, a Ramot de Galaad, donde los Sirios hirieron a Joram. ^22:6Y se volvió para curarse en Jezreel de las heridas que le habían hecho en Ramá, peleando con Hazael rey de Siria. Y descendió Azarías hijo de Joram, rey de Judá, a visitar a Joram hijo de Acab, en Jezreel: porque éste estaba enfermo. ^22:7Y la destrucción de Ocozías fue de Dios al venir a Joram: porque cuando vino, salió con Joram contra Jehú hijo de Nimsi, al cual Jehová había ungido para que talase la casa de Acab. ^22:8Y aconteció que cuando Jehú ejecutaba juicio contra la casa de Acab, halló a los príncipes de Judá, y a los hijos de los hermanos de Ocozías, que servían a Ocozías, y los mató. ^22:9Y buscando a Ocozías, el cual se había escondido en Samaria, lo tomaron, y lo trajeron a Jehú, y le mataron; y le dieron sepultura: porque dijeron, “Es hijo de Josafat, el cual buscó a Jehová de todo su corazón”.

Así la casa de Ocozías no tenía fuerzas para poder retener el reino.
