^10:4Then Saul said to his armorbearer, “Draw your sword, and thrust me through with it, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me.” But his armorbearer would not: for he was terrified. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it. ^10:5And when his armorbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died. ^10:6So Saul died, and his three sons; and all his household died together.

^10:7And when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, then they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

^10:8And it came to pass on the next day, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa. ^10:9And when they had stripped him, they took his head and his armor; and they sent messengers into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry news to their idols, and to the people; ^10:10and they put his armor in the house of their gods; and they fastened his head in the temple of Dagon.

^10:11And when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul, ^10:12they arose, all the valiant men. And they took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons; and they brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

^10:13So Saul died for his transgression which he committed against Jehovah, even against the Word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for asking counsel of a spiritist, to inquire of it; ^10:14and did not inquire of Jehovah; therefore he slew him; and he turned the kingdom over to David the son of Jesse.

^11:1Then all Israel gathered themselves to David to Hebron, saying, “Behold, we are your bone and your flesh. ^11:2And moreover in time past, even when Saul was king, you were he that led out and brought in Israel; and Jehovah your God said to you, ‘You shall feed my people Israel, and you shall be ruler over my people Israel.’” ^11:3Therefore all the elders of Israel came to the king to Hebron; and David made a covenant with them in Hebron before Jehovah; and they anointed David king over Israel, according to the Word of Jehovah by Samuel.

^11:4And David and all Israel went to Jerusalem, which at that time was Jebus, where the Jebusites were the inhabitants of the land. ^11:5And the inhabitants of Jebus said to David, “You shall not come here.” Nevertheless David took the castle of Zion, which is the city of David.

^11:6And David said, “Whosoever smites the Jebusites first shall be chief and captain.” So Joab the son of Zeruiah went up first, and became chief.

^11:7And David dwelt in the castle; therefore they called it the city of David. ^11:8And he built the city round about, even from Millo round about; and Joab repaired the rest of the city. ^11:9So David became greater and greater: for Jehovah of hosts was with him.

^11:10These also are the chief of the mighty men whom David had, who strengthened themselves with him in his kingdom, and with all Israel, to make him king, according to the Word of Jehovah concerning Israel.

^11:11And this is the number of the mighty men which David had: Jashobeam, a Hachmonite, the chief of the captains: he lifted up his spear against three hundred, slain by him at one time.

^11:12And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo, the Ahohite, who was one of the three Mighties. ^11:13He was with David at Pas-dammim, and the Philistines were gathered together there to battle, where was a parcel of ground full of barley; and the people fled from before the Philistines. ^11:14And they set themselves in the midst of that parcel, and delivered it, and slew the Philistines; and Jehovah saved them by a great deliverance.

^11:15Now three of the thirty captains went down to the rock to David, into the cave of Adullam; and the army of the Philistines camped in the valley of Rephaim. ^11:16And David was then in the hold, and the Philistines’ garrison was then at Bethlehem. ^11:17And David longed, and said, “Oh that someone would give me a drink of the water of the well of Bethlehem, that is at the gate!” ^11:18And the three broke through the army of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David.

But David would not drink of it, but poured it out to Jehovah; ^11:19and he said, “My God forbids it me, that I should do this thing. Shall I drink the blood of these men that have put their lives in jeopardy? For with the jeopardy of their lives they brought it.” Therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mightiest.

^11:20And Abishai the brother of Joab, he was chief of the three: for lifting up his spear against three hundred, he slew them, and had a name among the three.

^11:21Of the three, he was more honorable than the two: for he was their captain; nevertheless he did not attain to the first three.

^11:22Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, the son of a valiant man of Kabzeel, who had done many acts: he slew two lion-like men of Moab; also he went down and slew a lion in a pit in a snowy day. ^11:23And he slew an Egyptian, a man of great stature: seven and a half feet high; and a spear like a weaver’s beam was in the Egyptian’s hand; and he went down to him with a staff, and plucked the spear out of the Egyptian’s hand, and killed him with his own spear.

^11:24These things did Benaiah the son of Jehoiada, and had the name among the three Mighties. ^11:25Behold, he was honorable among the thirty, but did not attain to the first three; and David set him over his guard.

^11:26Also the valiant men of the armies were Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Bethlehem, ^11:27Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite, ^11:28Ira the son of Ikkesh the Tekoite, Abi-ezer the Antothite, ^11:29Sibbecai the Hushathite, Ilai the Ahohite, ^11:30Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite, ^11:31Ithai the son of Ribai of Gibeah, that pertained to the children of Benjamin, Benaiah the Pirathonite, ^11:32Hurai of the brooks of Gaash, Abiel the Arbathite, ^11:33Azmaveth the Baharumite, Eliahba the Shaalbonite, ^11:34the sons of Hashem the Gizonite, Jonathan the son of Shage the Hararite, ^11:35Ahiam the son of Sacar the Hararite, Eliphal the son of Ur, ^11:36Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite, ^11:37Hezro the Carmelite, Naarai the son of Ezbai, ^11:38Joel the brother of Nathan, Mibhar the son of Haggeri, ^11:39Zelek the Ammonite, Naharai the Berothite (the armorbearer of Joab the son of Zeruiah), ^11:40Ira the Ithrite, Gareb the Ithrite, ^11:41Uriah the Hittite, Zabad the son of Ahlai, ^11:42Adina the son of Shiza the Reubenite (a captain of the Reubenites, and thirty with him), ^11:43Hanan the son of Maachah, Joshaphat the Mithnite, ^11:44Uzzia the Ashterathite, Shama and Jehiel the sons of Hothan the Aroerite, ^11:45Jediael the son of Shimri and Joha his brother the Tizite, ^11:46Eliel the Mahavite, Jeribai and Joshaviah (the sons of Elnaam), and Ithmah the Moabite, ^11:47Eliel, Obed, and Jasiel the Mesobaite.

^12:1Now these are they that came to David to Ziklag, while he still kept himself secluded because of Saul the son of Kish. And they were among the mighty men, helpers of the war. ^12:2They were armed with bows, and could use both the right hand and the left in hurling stones and shooting arrows out of a bow, even of Saul’s brethren of Benjamin. ^12:3The chief was Ahiezer, then Joash: the sons of Shemaah the Gibeathite; and Jeziel and Pelet: the sons of Azmaveth; and Berachah, Jehu the Antothite, ^12:4Ismaiah the Gibeonite (a mighty man among the thirty, and over the thirty), Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan, Josabad the Gederathite, ^12:5Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah the Haruphite, ^12:6Elkanah, Jesiah, Azareel, Joezer, Jashobeam, and the Korhites, ^12:7Joelah and Zebadiah: the sons of Jeroham of Gedor.

^12:8And of the Gadites there separated themselves to David into the hold to the wilderness men of might, and men of war fit for the battle, that could handle large shield and small shield, whose faces were like the faces of lions, and were as swift as the gazelles upon the mountains: ^12:9Ezer the first, Obadiah the second, Eliab the third, ^12:10Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth, ^12:11Attai the sixth, Eliel the seventh, ^12:12Johanan the eighth, Elzabad the ninth, ^12:13Jeremiah the tenth, and Machbanai the eleventh.

^12:14These were of the sons of Gad, captains of the army: one of the least was over a hundred, and the greatest over a thousand. ^12:15These are they that went over Jordan in the first month, when it had overflown all his banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west.

^12:16And some of the children of Benjamin and Judah came to the hold to David. ^12:17And David went out to meet them, and answered and said to them, “If you have come peacefully to me to help me, my heart shall be knit to you; but if you have come to betray me to my enemies, seeing there is no wrong in my hands, the God of our fathers look on it, and rebuke it.”

^12:18Then the Spirit of God clothed Amasai, who was chief of the captains, saying, “We are yours, David, and on your side, you son of Jesse; peace, peace to you; and peace to your helpers: for your God is helping you.” Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.

¶Complement   The mighty men who came to David when the Philistines went to war with Saul (1 Chronicles 12:19 - 22)

^12:19And there fell some of Manasseh to David, when he came with the Philistines against Saul to battle.

But they did not help them:

for after counsel the lords of the Philistines sent him away, saying, “He will fall to his master Saul to the jeopardy of our heads.”

^12:20As he went to Ziklag, there fell to him others of Manasseh: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael, Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, and Zilthai: captains of the thousands that were of Manasseh. ^12:21And they helped David against the band of the Amalekites: for they were all mighty men of valor, and were captains in the army.

^12:22For at that time day by day there came soldiers to David to help him, until it was a great army, like the army of God.

¶Unique   The mighty men who came to David when he was king in Hebron (1 Chronicles 12:23 - 40)

^12:23And these are the numbers of the bands that were ready armed to the war, and came to David to Hebron, to turn the kingdom of Saul to him, according to the Word of Jehovah. ^12:24The children of Judah that carried shield and spear were six thousand and eight hundred: ready armed to the war. ^12:25There were seven thousand and one hundred of the children of Simeon, mighty men of valor for the war. ^12:26Also four thousand and six hundred of the children of Levi. ^12:27And Jehoiada was the leader of the Aaronites, and with him were three thousand and seven hundred; ^12:28and also Zadok, a young man mighty of valor, and twenty-two captains of his father’s house. ^12:29And there were three thousand of the children of Benjamin, the relatives of Saul: for until then the greatest part of them had remained loyal to the house of Saul. ^12:30And there were twenty thousand and eight hundred of the children of Ephraim: mighty men of valor and famous throughout the house of their fathers. ^12:31And there were eighteen thousand of the half tribe of Manasseh, which were expressed by name, to come and make David king. ^12:32And of the children of Issachar, which were men that had understanding of the times, to know what Israel ought to do: the heads of them were two hundred; and all their brethren were at their command. ^12:33Of Zebulun, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, with all instruments of war, there were fifty thousand, which could keep rank; they were not of double heart. ^12:34And of Naphtali, there were a thousand captains, and thirty-seven thousand with them with shield and spear. ^12:35And of the Danites, expert in war, there were twenty-eight thousand and six hundred. ^12:36And of Asher, such as went forth to battle, expert in war, there were forty thousand. ^12:37And on the other side of Jordan, of the Reubenites, the Gadites, and of the half tribe of Manasseh, with all manner of instruments of war for the battle, there were one hundred and twenty thousand.

^12:38All these men of war, that could keep rank, came with a loyal heart to Hebron, to make David king over all Israel; and all the rest also of Israel were of one heart to make David king.

^12:39And they were there with David three days, eating and drinking: for their brethren had prepared for them.

^12:40Moreover they that were near them, even to Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, brought bread on donkeys, on camels, on mules, and on oxen; and meat, meal, cakes of figs, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, oxen, and sheep abundantly:

for there was joy in Israel.

^13:5So David gathered all Israel together, from Sihor of Egypt even to the entering of Hamath, to bring the Ark of God from Kirjath-jearim.

^13:6And David went up, and all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kirjath-jearim, which belonged to Judah, to bring up from there the Ark of Jehovah God that dwells between the cherubims, whose Name is called on it.

^13:7And they carried the Ark of God in a new cart out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio drove the cart.

^13:8And David and all Israel played before God with all their might, and with singing, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

^13:9And when they came to the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the Ark: for the oxen stumbled.

^13:10And the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Uzza; and he smote him, because he put his hand to the Ark; and he died there before God.

^13:11And David was displeased, because Jehovah had made a breach upon Uzza; therefore that place is called Perez-uzza to this day.

^13:12And David was afraid of God that day, saying, “How shall I bring the Ark of God to me?” ^13:13So David did not bring the Ark to himself to the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

^13:14And the Ark of God remained with the family of Obed-edom in his house three months. And Jehovah blessed the house of Obed-edom, and all that he had.

^11:22Benaía hijo de Joiada, hijo de un hombre valiente, de grandes hazañas, de Cabseel; que mató a dos hombres de Moab que eran fieros como leones; también descendió y mató a un león dentro de un foso, en tiempo de nieve. ^11:23El mismo venció a un egipcio, hombre de cinco codos de estatura; y el egipcio traía una lanza como un rodillo de tejedor; pero descendió a él con un palo, y arrebató la lanza de la mano del egipcio y lo mató con su propia lanza.

^11:24Esto hizo Benaía hijo de Joiada, y fue nombrado entre los tres valientes. ^11:25Y fue el más distinguido de los treinta, pero no igualó a los tres primeros. A éste puso David en su consejo.

^11:26Y los valientes de los ejércitos: Asael hermano de Joab, y Elhanán hijo de Dodo de Belén; ^11:27Samot de Arori, Heles pelonita; ^11:28Ira hijo de Iques Tecoíta, Abiezer anatotita; ^11:29Sibecai husatita, Ilai ahohíta; ^11:30Maharai netofatita, Heled hijo de Baana netofatita; ^11:31Itai hijo de Ribai de Gabaa de los hijos de Benjamín, Benaía piratonita; ^11:32Hurai de los arroyos de Gaas, Abiel arbatita; ^11:33Azmavet baharumita, Eliaba saalbonita; ^11:34Los hijos de Asem gizonita, Jonatán hijo de Sage ararita; ^11:35Ahiam hijo de Sacar ararita, Elifal hijo de Ur; ^11:36Hefer mequeratita, Ahías pelonita; ^11:37Hezro carmelita, Nahari hijo de Ezbai; ^11:38Joel hermano de Natán, Mibhar hijo de Agrai; ^11:39Selec amonita, Naharai berotita, escudero de Joab hijo de Sarvia; ^11:40Ira itrita, Gareb itrita; ^11:41Urías heteo, Zabad hijo de Ahlai; ^11:42Adina hijo de Siza rubenita, príncipe de los rubenitas, y con él treinta; ^11:43Hanán hijo de Maaca, y Josafat mitnita; ^11:44Uzías astarotita, Sama y Jeiel hijos de Hotam aroerita; ^11:45Jediael hijo de Simri, y Joha su hermano, tizita; ^11:46Eliel de mahavi, Jeribai y Josabía hijos de Elnaam, e Itma moabita; ^11:47Eliel, y Obed, y Jasiel el mesobaíta.

¶El complemento   Los poderosos hombres que acudieron en ayuda de David en la fortaleza (1 Crónicas 12:1 - 18)

^12:1Éstos son los que vinieron a David a Siclag, estando él aún encerrado por causa de Saúl hijo de Cis. Y eran de los valientes ayudadores de la guerra. ^12:2Estaban armados de arcos, y usaban de ambas manos para tirar piedras con honda, y saetas con arco, aún de los hermanos de Saúl de Benjamín. ^12:3El principal Ahiezer, después Joás, hijos de Semaa gabaatita; y Jeziel, y Pelet, hijos de Azmavet, y Beraca, y Jehú anatotita; ^12:4e Ismaías gabaonita, valiente entre los treinta, y más que los treinta; y Jeremías, Jahaziel, Johanán, Jozabad gederatita, ^12:5Eluzai, y Jerimot, Bealías, Semarías, y Sefatías harufita; ^12:6Elcana, e Isías, y Azareel, y Joezer, y Jasobam, de Coré; ^12:7y Joela, y Zebadías, hijos de Jeroham de Gedor.

^12:8También de los de Gad se pasaron a David, estando en la fortaleza en el desierto, hombres de guerra muy valientes para pelear, dispuestos a hacerlo con escudo y lanza; sus rostros eran como rostros de leones, y eran ligeros como las gacelas sobre los montes. ^12:9Ezer el primero, Abdías el segundo, Eliab el tercero, ^12:10Mismana el cuarto, Jeremías el quinto, ^12:11Atai el sexto, Eliel el séptimo, ^12:12Johanán el octavo, Elzabad el noveno, ^12:13Jeremías el décimo, Macbani el undécimo.

^12:14Éstos fueron capitanes del ejército de los hijos de Gad. El menor tenía cargo de cien hombres, y el mayor de mil. ^12:15Éstos pasaron el Jordán en el mes primero, cuando había salido sobre todas sus riberas; e hicieron huir a todos los de los valles al oriente y al poniente.

^12:16Asimismo algunos de los hijos de Benjamín y de Judá vinieron a David a la fortaleza. ^12:17Y David salió a ellos, y les habló diciendo, “Si habéis venido a mí para paz y para ayudarme, mi corazón será unido con ustedes; pero si para traicionarme en pro de mis enemigos, siendo mis manos sin iniquidad, véalo el Dios de nuestros padres, y lo demande”.

^12:18Entonces el Espíritu invistió a Amasai, príncipe de treinta, y dijo, “Por ti, oh David, y contigo, oh hijo de Isaí. Paz, paz contigo, y paz con tus ayudadores; pues que también tu Dios te ayuda”. Y David los recibió, y los puso entre los capitanes de la cuadrilla.

¶El complemento   Los hombres poderosos que vinieron a David cuando los filisteos fueron a la guerra con Saúl (1 Crónicas 12:19 - 22)

^12:19También se pasaron a David algunos de Manasés, cuando vino con los filisteos a la batalla contra Saúl.

Pero no les ayudaron:

porque los príncipes de los filisteos, habido consejo, lo despidieron, diciendo, “Con peligro de nuestras cabezas se pasará a su señor Saúl”.

^12:20Así que viniendo él a Siclag, se pasaron a él de los de Manasés, Adna, Jozabad, Micael, Jozabad, Jediael, Eliú y Ziletai, príncipes de millares de los de Manasés. ^12:21Éstos ayudaron a David contra la banda de salteadores: porque todos ellos eran hombres valientes, y fueron capitanes en el ejército.

^12:22Porque entonces todos los días venía ayuda a David, hasta hacerse un grande ejército, como el ejército de Dios.

¶Único   Los hombres poderosos que vinieron a David cuando era rey en Hebrón (1 Crónicas 12:23 - 40)

^12:23Y éste es el número de los principales que estaban listos para la guerra, y vinieron a David en Hebrón, para traspasarle el reino de Saúl, conforme a la Palabra de Jehová. ^12:24De los hijos de Judá que traían escudo y lanza, seis mil ochocientos, listos para la guerra. ^12:25De los hijos de Simeón, hombres valientes y esforzados para la guerra, siete mil cien. ^12:26De los hijos de Leví, cuatro mil seiscientos; ^12:27asimismo Joiada, príncipe de los del linaje de Aarón, y con él tres mil setecientos; ^12:28y Sadoc, joven valiente y esforzado, con veintidós de los principales de la casa de su padre. ^12:29De los hijos de Benjamín hermanos de Saúl, tres mil: porque hasta aquel tiempo muchos de ellos se mantenían fieles a la casa de Saúl. ^12:30Y de los hijos de Efraín, veinte mil ochocientos, muy valientes, varones ilustres en las casas de sus padres. ^12:31De la media tribu de Manasés, dieciocho mil, los cuales fueron tomados por lista para venir a poner a David por rey. ^12:32Y de los hijos de Isacar, doscientos principales, entendidos en los tiempos, y que sabían lo que Israel debía hacer, cuyo dicho seguían todos sus hermanos. ^12:33Y de Zabulón cincuenta mil, que salían a campaña listos para la batalla, con todo tipo de armas de guerra, dispuestos a pelear sin doblez de corazón. ^12:34Y de Neftalí mil capitanes, y con ellos treinta y siete mil con escudo y lanza. ^12:35De los de Dan, dispuestos a pelear, veintiocho mil seiscientos. ^12:36Y de Aser, dispuestos para la guerra y preparados para pelear, cuarenta mil. ^12:37Y del otro lado del Jordán, de los rubenitas y de los gaditas y de la media tribu de Manasés, ciento veinte mil con todo tipo de armas de guerra.

^12:38Todos estos hombres de guerra, dispuestos para guerrear, vinieron con corazón perfecto a Hebrón, para poner a David por rey sobre todo Israel; asimismo todos los demás de Israel estaban de un mismo ánimo para poner a David por rey.

^12:39Y estuvieron allí con David tres días comiendo y bebiendo: porque sus hermanos habían prevenido para ellos.

^12:40Y también los que les eran vecinos, hasta Isacar y Zabulón y Neftalí, trajeron pan en asnos, camellos, mulos y bueyes; y provisión de harina, masas de higos, y pasas, vino y aceite, bueyes y ovejas en abundancia:

porque había alegría en Israel.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El rey David intentó, pero falló, traer el Arca a Jerusalén (1 Crónicas 13:1 - 14)

¶El complemento   David y todo Israel se unieron para traer el Arca de Dios desde Quiriat-jearim con gran celebración (1 Crónicas 13:1 - 8)

^13:1Entonces David consultó con los capitanes de millares y de cientos, y con todos los jefes. ^13:2Y dijo David a toda la congregación de Israel, “Si os parece bien y si es la voluntad de Jehová nuestro Dios, enviaremos por todas partes para llamar a nuestros hermanos que han quedado en todas las tierras de Israel, y a los sacerdotes y levitas que están con ellos en sus ciudades y ejidos que se unan con nosotros; ^13:3y traigamos el Arca de nuestro Dios a nosotros: porque desde el tiempo de Saúl no hemos hecho caso de ella”. ^13:4Y toda la congregación dijo que se hiciese así: porque la cosa parecía bien a todo el pueblo.

^13:5Entonces David reunió a todo Israel, desde Sihor de Egipto hasta entrar en Hamat, para que trajesen el Arca de Dios de Quiriat-jearim.

^13:6Y subió David con todo Israel a Baala de Quiriat-jearim, que es en Judá, para pasar de allí el Arca de Jehová Dios que habita entre los querubines, sobre la cual su Nombre es invocado.

^13:7Y se llevaron el Arca de Dios de la casa de Abinadab en un carro nuevo; y Uza y Ahío guiaban el carro.

^13:8Y David y todo Israel se regocijaban delante de Dios con todas sus fuerzas, con cánticos, arpas, salterios, tamboriles, címbalos y trompetas.

¶El complemento   Uzza fue mató por Jehová por tocar el Arca, lo que obligó a David a llevar el Arca a la casa de Obed-edom (1 Crónicas 13:9 - 14)

^13:9Y cuando llegaron a la era de Quidón, Uza extendió su mano para sostener el Arca: porque los bueyes tropezaban.

^13:10Y el furor de Jehová se encendió contra Uza, y lo hirió: porque extendió su mano al Arca; y murió allí delante de Dios.

^13:11Y David tuvo pesar: porque Jehová había quebrantado a Uza; por lo que llamó aquel lugar Pérez-uza, hasta hoy.

^13:12Y David temió a Dios aquel día, y dijo, “¿Cómo he de traer a mi casa el Arca de Dios?”. ^13:13Asi que, David no trajo el Arca hasta sí mismo a la ciudad de David, sino que la llevó a casa de Obed-edom geteo.

^13:14Y el Arca de Dios estuvo en casa de Obed-edom, en su casa, tres meses; y bendijo Jehová la casa de Obed-edom, y todas las cosas que tenía.
