Kings, Chapter 1.5: Jehovah brought spiritual revival to Israel through the ministry of Elijah the Prophet (1 Kings 17:1 - 20:43)

And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering sticks; and he called to her, and said, “Please, bring me a little water in a vessel, that I may drink.” ^17:11And as she was going to bring it, he called to her, and said, “Please, bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.” ^17:12And she said, “As Jehovah your God lives, I do not have a cake, but only a handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a jar; and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and prepare it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die.” ^17:13And Elijah said to her, “Fear not; go and do as you have said, but first make me a little cake of it, and bring it to me; and afterwards make some for you and for your son. ^17:14For thus says Jehovah God of Israel: ‘The barrel of meal shall not waste; neither shall the jar of oil fail, until the day that Jehovah sends rain upon the earth.’” ^17:15And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah; and she, he, and her household, ate many days. ^17:16And the barrel of meal did not waste; neither did the jar of oil fail, according to the Word of Jehovah, which he spoke by Elijah.

^17:17And it came to pass after these things, that the son of the woman, the mistress of the house, fell sick; and his sickness was so severe, that there was no spirit left in him. ^17:18And she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O you man of God? Have you come to me to call my sin to remembrance, and to slay my son?”

^17:19And he said to her, “Give me your son.” And he took him out of her bosom, and carried him up into a loft, where he stayed, and laid him upon his own bed. ^17:20And he cried to Jehovah, and said, “O Jehovah my God, have you also brought evil upon the widow with whom I sojourn, by slaying her son?” ^17:21And he stretched himself upon the child three times, and cried to Jehovah, and said, “O Jehovah my God, please, let this child’s soul come into him again!” ^17:22And Jehovah heard the voice of Elijah; and the soul of the child came into him again, and he revived.

^17:23And Elijah took the child, and brought him down out of the chamber into the house, and delivered him to his mother; and Elijah said, “See, your son lives.” ^17:24And the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the Word of Jehovah in your mouth is truth.”

(Now Obadiah feared Jehovah greatly: ^18:4for it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of Jehovah, that Obadiah took a hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water.) ^18:5And Ahab said to Obadiah, “Go into the land, to all fountains of water, and to all brooks; perhaps we may find grass to save the horses and mules alive, so that we do not lose all the beasts.” ^18:6So they divided the land between them to pass throughout it: Ahab went one way by himself, and Obadiah went another way by himself. ^18:7And as Obadiah was in the road, behold, Elijah met him. And he knew him, and fell on his face, and said, “Are you that my lord Elijah?” ^18:8And he answered him, “I am; go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here.’” ^18:9And he said, “What have I sinned, that you would deliver your servant into the hand of Ahab, to slay me? ^18:10As Jehovah your God lives, there is no nation or kingdom, where my lord has not sent to seek you. And when they said, ‘He is not there’, he took an oath of that kingdom and nation, that they did not find you. ^18:11And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here’’: ^18:12and it shall come to pass, as soon as I am gone from you, that the Spirit of Jehovah shall carry you where I do not know; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find you, he shall slay me; but I your servant fear Jehovah from my youth. ^18:13Was it not told my lord what I did when Jezebel slew the prophets of Jehovah, how I hid one hundred men of Jehovah’s prophets by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water? ^18:14And now you say, ‘Go, tell your lord, ‘Behold, Elijah is here’’; and he shall slay me!” ^18:15And Elijah said, “As Jehovah of hosts lives, before whom I stand, I will certainly show myself to him today.” ^18:16So Obadiah went to meet Ahab, and told him; and Ahab went to meet Elijah.

^18:17And it came to pass, when Ahab saw Elijah, that Ahab said to him, “Are you he that troubles Israel?” ^18:18And he answered, “I have not troubled Israel; but you, and your father’s house, in that you have forsaken the Commandments of Jehovah, and you have followed Baalim. ^18:19Now therefore send, and gather all Israel to me to mount Carmel, and the prophets of Baal four hundred and fifty, and the prophets of Asherah four hundred, which eat at Jezebel’s table.”

^18:20So Ahab sent to all the children of Israel, and gathered the prophets together to mount Carmel. ^18:21And Elijah came to all the people, and said, “How long do you hesitate between two opinions? If Jehovah is the true God, follow him; but if Baal, then follow him.” And the people did not answer him a word. ^18:22Then Elijah said to the people, “I, even I only, remain a prophet of Jehovah; but Baal’s prophets are four hundred and fifty men. ^18:23Therefore let them give us two young bulls; and let them choose one bull for themselves, and cut it in pieces, and lay it on wood, and put no fire underneath; and I will prepare the other bull, and lay it on wood, and put no fire underneath. ^18:24And you call on the name of your gods, and I will call on the Name of Jehovah; and the God that answers by fire, let him be the true God.” And all the people answered and said, “It is well spoken.” ^18:25And Elijah said to the prophets of Baal, “Choose you one bull for yourselves, and prepare it first: for you are many; and call on the name of your gods, but put no fire underneath.” ^18:26And they took the bull that was given them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal from morning even until noon, saying, “O Baal, hear us!” But there was no voice, nor any that answered. And they danced upon the altar that was made. ^18:27And it came to pass at noon, that Elijah mocked them, and said, “Cry aloud: for he is a god! Either he is talking, or he is going away, or he is in a journey, or perhaps he is sleeping, and must be awoken!” ^18:28And they cried aloud, and cut themselves after their manner with knives and lancets, until the blood gushed out upon them.

^18:29And it came to pass, when midday was past, and they prophesied until the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that there was neither a voice, nor any to answer, nor anyone that cared. ^18:30And Elijah said to all the people, “Come near to me.” And all the people came near to him. And he repaired the altar of Jehovah that was broken down. ^18:31And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the tribes of the sons of Jacob, to whom the Word of Jehovah came, saying, “Israel shall be your name”; ^18:32and he built an altar with the stones in the Name of Jehovah. And he made a trench about the altar, as large as would contain two measures of seed. ^18:33And he put the wood in order, and cut the bull in pieces, and laid it on the wood, and said, “Fill four barrels with water, and pour it on the burnt sacrifice, and on the wood.” ^18:34And he said, “Do it the second time.” And they did it the second time. And he said, “Do it the third time.” And they did it the third time. ^18:35And the water ran round about the altar; and he filled the trench also with water. ^18:36And it came to pass at the time of the offering of the evening sacrifice, that Elijah the prophet came near, and said, “Jehovah God of Abraham, Isaac, and of Israel! Let it be known this day that you are the true God in Israel; and that I am your servant; and that I have done all these things at your Word. ^18:37Hear me, O Jehovah, hear me! That this people may know that you are Jehovah God, and that you have turned their heart back again!” ^18:38Then the fire of Jehovah fell, and consumed the burnt sacrifice, the wood, the stones, and the dust; and licked up the water that was in the trench. ^18:39And when all the people saw it, they fell on their faces; and they said, “Jehovah, he is the true God! Jehovah, he is the true God!” ^18:40And Elijah said to them, “Seize the prophets of Baal! Let not one of them escape!” And they took them; and Elijah brought them down to the brook Kishon, and executed them there.

^18:41And Elijah said to Ahab, “Arise; eat and drink: for there is a sound of abundance of rain.” ^18:42So Ahab went up to eat and to drink. And Elijah went up to the top of Carmel; and he cast himself down upon the earth, and put his face between his knees, ^18:43and said to his servant, “Go up now, look toward the sea.” And he went up, and looked, and said, “There is nothing.” And he said, “Go again seven times.” ^18:44And it came to pass at the seventh time, that he said, “Behold, a little cloud is rising out of the sea, like a man’s hand.” And he said, “Go up, and say to Ahab, ‘Prepare your chariot, and get down, so that the rain does not stop you.’” ^18:45And it came to pass in the meanwhile, that the sky was black with clouds and wind; and there was a great rain.

^19:4But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he requested for himself that he might die; and said, “It is enough; now, O Jehovah, take away my life: for I am not better than my fathers.”

^19:5And as he lay and slept under a broom tree, behold, then an angel touched him, and said to him, “Arise and eat.” ^19:6And he looked; and behold, there was a cake baking on the coals, and a jar of water at his head. And he ate and drank, and laid himself down again.

^19:7And the angel of Jehovah came again the second time, and touched him, and said, “Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for you.” ^19:8And he arose, and ate and drank, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to Horeb the mountain of God.

Pero no había voz, ni quien respondiese; entre tanto, ellos andaban saltando cerca del altar que habían hecho. ^18:27Y aconteció al mediodía, que Elías se burlaba de ellos, diciendo, “¡Gritad en alta voz, que dios es; quizá está meditando, o está ocupado, o va de camino; quizá duerme y hay que despertarle!”. ^18:28Y ellos clamaban a grandes voces, y se sajaban con cuchillos y con lancetas conforme a su costumbre, hasta chorrear la sangre sobre ellos.

^18:29Y sucedió que pasado el mediodía, y profetizando ellos hasta la hora de ofrecerse el sacrificio de la tarde, que no había voz, ni quien respondiese ni escuchase. ^18:30Entonces dijo Elías a todo el pueblo, “Acercaos a mí”. Y todo el pueblo se acercó a él; y él reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba arruinado. ^18:31Y tomando Elías doce piedras, conforme al número de las tribus de los hijos de Jacob, al cual había venido Palabra de Jehová, diciendo, “Israel será tu nombre”; ^18:32edificó con las piedras un altar en el Nombre de Jehová. Después hizo una zanja alrededor del altar, donde cupieran dos medidas de semilla. ^18:33Compuso luego la leña, y cortó el buey en pedazos, y lo puso sobre la leña. Y dijo, “Llenad cuatro cántaros de agua, y derramadla sobre el holocausto y sobre la leña”. ^18:34Y dijo, “Hacedlo otra vez”; y otra vez lo hicieron. Dijo aún, “Hacedlo la tercera vez”; y lo hicieron la tercera vez. ^18:35De manera que las aguas corrían alrededor del altar; y había también llenado de agua la zanja. ^18:36Y sucedió que cuando llegó la hora de ofrecerse el holocausto, se acercó el Profeta Elías y dijo, “¡Jehová Dios de Abraham, de Isaac y de Israel, sea hoy manifiesto que tú eres Dios en Israel, y que soy tu siervo, y que por mandato tuyo he hecho todas estas cosas! ^18:37¡Respóndeme, Jehová, respóndeme; para que este pueblo sepa que tú, oh Jehová, eres Dios, y que tú vuelves a ti el corazón de ellos!”. ^18:38Entonces cayó fuego de Jehová, el cual consumió el holocausto, y la leña, y las piedras, y el polvo, y aun lamió las aguas que estaban en la zanja. ^18:39Y viéndolo todo el pueblo, cayeron sobre sus rostros, y dijeron, “¡Jehová es el Dios verdadero! ¡Jehová es el Dios verdadero!”. ^18:40Entonces Elías les dijo, “¡Prended a los profetas de Baal, que no escape ninguno!”. Y ellos los prendieron; y los llevó Elías al arroyo de Cisón, y allí los degolló.

^18:41Entonces Elías dijo a Acab, “Sube, come y bebe: porque se oye el ruido de una grande lluvia”. ^18:42Y Acab subió a comer y a beber. Y Elías subió a la cumbre del Carmelo; y postrándose en tierra, puso su rostro entre las rodillas. ^18:43Y dijo a su criado, “Sube ahora, y mira hacia el mar”. Y él subió, y miró, y dijo, “No hay nada”. Y él le volvió a decir, “Vuelve siete veces”. ^18:44Y sucedió que a la séptima vez, él dijo, “Yo veo una pequeña nube como la palma de la mano de un hombre, que sube del mar”. Y él dijo, “Ve, y di a Acab, ‘Unce tu carro y desciende, para que la lluvia no te detenga’”. ^18:45Y aconteció, estando en esto, que los cielos se oscurecieron con nubes y viento; y hubo una gran lluvia.

¶El complemento   Elías corrió por su vida desde Jezabel hasta el Monte Sinaí (1 Reyes 18:45b - 19:8)

Y subiendo Acab, vino a Jezreel. ^18:46Y la mano de Jehová fue sobre Elías, el cual ciñó sus lomos, y vino corriendo delante de Acab hasta llegar a Jezreel. ^19:1Y Acab dio la nueva a Jezabel de todo lo que Elías había hecho, de cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas. ^19:2Entonces Jezabel envió un mensajero a Elías, diciendo, “Así me hagan los dioses, y así me añadan, si mañana a estas horas yo no he puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos”.

^19:3Viendo pues el peligro, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida, y vino a Beerseba, que es en Judá, y dejó allí su criado.

^19:4Y él se fue por el desierto un día de camino, y vino y se sentó debajo de un enebro; y deseando morirse, dijo, “Baste ya, oh Jehová, quítame la vida; pues no soy yo mejor que mis padres”.

^19:5Y echándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido. Y he aquí luego un ángel le tocó, y le dijo, “Levántate, come”. ^19:6Entonces él miró, y he aquí a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas, y un vaso de agua. Y comió y bebió y se volvió a dormir.

^19:7Y volviendo el ángel de Jehová la segunda vez, le tocó y le dijo, “Levántate y come: porque la jornada es muy grande para ti”. ^19:8Se levantó, pues, y comió y bebió; y con la fortaleza de aquella comida caminó cuarenta días y cuarenta noches, hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios.

¶El complemento   Jehová envió a Elías a Israel y le ordenó que tomara a Eliseo como su alumno (1 Reyes 19:9 - 21)

^19:9Y allí se metió en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Y he aquí vino a él Palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo, “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?”. ^19:10Y él respondió, “He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos: porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus Profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida”. ^19:11Y él le dijo, “Sal fuera, y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová”. Y he aquí Jehová que pasaba, y un grande y poderoso viento que rompía los montes, y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová; pero Jehová no estaba en el viento. Y tras el viento un terremoto; pero Jehová no estaba en el terremoto. ^19:12Y tras el terremoto un fuego; pero Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego una voz suave y delicada.

^19:13Y al oírla Elías, cubrió su rostro con su manto, y salió, y se paró a la puerta de la cueva. Y he aquí vino una voz a él, diciendo, “¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?”. ^19:14Y él respondió, “He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová Dios de los ejércitos: porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu Pacto, han derribado tus altares, y han matado a espada a tus Profetas; y sólo yo he quedado, y me buscan para quitarme la vida”.

^19:15Y le dijo Jehová, “Ve, vuelve por tu camino, por el desierto de Damasco; y llegarás, y ungirás a Hazael por rey de Siria; ^19:16y a Jehú hijo de Nimsi, ungirás por rey sobre Israel; y a Eliseo hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, ungirás para que sea Profeta en tu lugar. ^19:17Y será, que el que escapare de la espada de Hazael, Jehú lo matará; y el que escapare de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará. ^19:18Pero yo he hecho que queden en Israel siete mil, cuyas rodillas no se doblaron ante Baal, y cuyas bocas no lo besaron”.

^19:19Y partiendo él de allí, halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que araba con doce yuntas de bueyes delante de sí; y él tenía la última. Y pasando Elías por delante de él, echó sobre él su manto.

^19:20Entonces dejando él los bueyes, vino corriendo en pos de Elías, y dijo, “Te ruego que me dejes besar a mi padre y a mi madre, y luego te seguiré”. Y él le dijo, “Ve, vuelve; ¿qué te he hecho yo?”. ^19:21Y se volvió de en pos de él, y tomó un par de bueyes, y los mató, y con el arado de los bueyes coció la carne de éstos, y la dio al pueblo y ellos comieron. Después se levantó y fue tras Elías, y le servía.

¶Lo opuesto   Ben-hadad, rey de Siria, hizo la guerra contra Israel y fue derrotado porque Jehová así lo dijo (1 Reyes 20:1 - 22)

^20:1Entonces Ben-hadad rey de Siria juntó a todo su ejército, y con él a treinta y dos reyes, con caballos y carros; y subió y sitió a Samaria, y la combatió. ^20:2Y envió mensajeros a la ciudad a Acab rey de Israel, diciendo, “Así dice Ben-hadad, ^20:3‘Tu plata y tu oro son míos, y tus esposas y tus hijos hermosos son míos’”. ^20:4Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo, “Como tú dices, rey señor mío, soy tuyo, y todo lo que tengo”.

^20:5Y volviendo los mensajeros otra vez, dijeron, “Así dijo Ben-hadad, ‘Yo te envié a decir, ‘Tu plata y tu oro, y tus esposas y tus hijos me darás’. ^20:6Además mañana a estas horas enviaré yo a ti mis siervos, los cuales inspeccionarán tu casa, y las casas de tus siervos; y sucederá que todo lo precioso que tienes ellos lo tomarán con sus manos y se lo llevarán’”. ^20:7Entonces el rey de Israel llamó a todos los ancianos de la tierra, y les dijo, “Entended, y ved ahora cómo éste no busca sino mal; pues ha enviado a mí por mis esposas y mis hijos, y por mi plata y por mi oro; y yo no se lo he negado”. ^20:8Y todos los ancianos y todo el pueblo le respondieron, “No le obedezcas, ni hagas lo que te pide”. ^20:9Entonces él respondió a los embajadores de Ben-hadad, “Decid al rey mi señor, ‘Haré todo lo que mandaste a tu siervo al principio; pero esto no lo puedo hacer’”. Y los embajadores fueron, y le dieron la respuesta.

^20:10Y Ben-hadad envió a decirle, “Así me hagan los dioses, y aun me añadan, que el polvo de Samaria no bastará a los puños de todo el pueblo que me sigue”. ^20:11Y el rey de Israel respondió, y dijo, “Decidle, que no se alabe el que se ciñe las armas, como el que las desciñe”. ^20:12Y cuando Ben-hadad oyó esta palabra, estando bebiendo con los reyes en las tiendas, dijo a sus siervos, “Tomad posiciones”. Y ellos tomaron posiciones contra la ciudad.

^20:13Y he aquí un Profeta se llegó a Acab rey de Israel; y le dijo, “Así dice Jehová, ‘¿Has visto esta grande multitud? He aquí yo te la entregaré hoy en tu mano, para que conozcas que yo soy Jehová’”. ^20:14Y respondió Acab, “¿Por mano de quién?”. Y él dijo, “Así dice Jehová, ‘Por mano de los jóvenes de los príncipes de las provincias’”. Y dijo Acab, “¿Quién comenzará la batalla?”. Y él respondió, “Tú”. ^20:15Entonces él pasó revista a los jóvenes de los príncipes de las provincias, los cuales fueron doscientos treinta y dos. Luego pasó revista a todo el pueblo, a todos los hijos de Israel, que fueron siete mil. ^20:16Y salieron al mediodía.

Pero Ben-hadad estaba bebiendo, emborrachándose en las tiendas, él y los reyes, los treinta y dos reyes que habían venido en su ayuda. ^20:17Y los jóvenes de los príncipes de las provincias salieron primero. Y había Ben-hadad enviado quien le dio aviso, diciendo, “Han salido hombres de Samaria”. ^20:18Él entonces dijo, “Si han salido por paz, tomadlos vivos; y si han salido para pelear, tomadlos vivos”. ^20:19Salieron, pues, de la ciudad los jóvenes de los príncipes de las provincias, y en pos de ellos el ejército. ^20:20Y mató cada uno al que venía contra él; y huyeron los Sirios, siguiéndolos los de Israel. Y el rey de Siria, Ben-hadad, se escapó en un caballo con alguna gente de caballería. ^20:21Y salió el rey de Israel, e hirió la gente de a caballo, y los carros; y deshizo a los Sirios con grande estrago. ^20:22Vino luego el Profeta al rey de Israel y le dijo, “Ve, fortalécete, y considera y mira lo que has de hacer: porque pasado el año, el rey de Siria vendrá contra ti”.

¶Lo opuesto   Ben-hadad, rey de Siria, hizo la guerra contra Israel y fue derrotado, debido a lo los sirios habían dicho contra Jehová (1 Reyes 20:23 - 30a)

^20:23Y los siervos del rey de Siria le dijeron, “Sus dioses son dioses de las montañas, por eso nos han vencido; pero si peleáremos con ellos en el valle, se verá si no los vencemos.

^20:24Haz, pues, así: saca a los reyes cada uno de su puesto, y pon capitanes en lugar de ellos. ^20:25Y tú, fórmate otro ejército como el ejército que perdiste, caballos por caballos, y carros por carros; luego pelearemos con ellos en el valle, y veremos si no los vencemos”. Y él les dio oído, y lo hizo así.

^20:26Pasado el año, Ben-hadad pasó revista a los Sirios, y vino a Afec a pelear contra Israel. ^20:27Y los hijos de Israel fueron también inspeccionados, y tomando provisiones vinieron a encontrarles; y acamparon los hijos de Israel delante de ellos, como dos rebañuelos de cabras; y los Sirios llenaban la tierra.

^20:28Acercándose entonces el varón de Dios al rey de Israel, le habló diciendo, “Así dice Jehová, ‘Por cuanto los Sirios han dicho, ‘Jehová es Dios de las montañas, pero no Dios de los valles’, yo entregaré toda esta gran multitud en tu mano, y sabrás que yo soy Jehová’”.

^20:29Siete días estuvieron acampados los unos delante de los otros, y al séptimo día se dio la batalla; y los hijos de Israel mataron de los Sirios en un solo día a cien mil hombres de a pie. ^20:30Los demás huyeron a Afec, a la ciudad; y el muro cayó sobre veintisiete mil hombres que habían quedado.

§Único   Conclusión: Acab tuvo misericordia de Ben-hadad, pero un profeta de Jehová pronunció el juicio sobre el rey Acab por su acción (1 Reyes 20:30b - 43)

¶El complemento   El rey Acab tuvo misericordia sobre Ben-hadad y le permitió regresar a casa con un pacto (1 Reyes 20:30b - 34)

Y Ben-hadad vino huyendo a la ciudad, y se escondía de cámara en cámara. ^20:31Entonces sus siervos le dijeron, “He aquí, hemos oído que los reyes de la casa de Israel son reyes misericordiosos; pongamos, pues, ahora cilicio en nuestros lomos, y cuerdas sobre nuestras cabezas, y salgamos al rey de Israel; quizá por ventura te salve la vida”.

^20:32Ciñeron, pues, sus lomos de cilicio y pusieron cuerdas sobre sus cabezas, y vinieron al rey de Israel y le dijeron, “Tu siervo Ben-hadad dice, ‘Te ruego que viva mi alma’”. Y él respondió, “¿Todavía está vivo? Él es mi hermano”.

^20:33Esto tomaron aquellos hombres por buen augurio, y presto tomaron esta palabra de su boca, y dijeron, “¡Tu hermano Ben-hadad!”.

Entonces él dijo, “Id, y traedle”. Ben-hadad entonces se presentó a Acab, y él le hizo subir en un carro.

^20:34Y le dijo Ben-hadad, “Las ciudades que mi padre tomó al tuyo, yo las restituiré; y haz plazas en Damasco para ti, como mi padre las hizo en Samaria”. “Y yo,” dijo Acab, “te dejaré partir con este pacto”. Hizo, pues, pacto con él, y le dejó ir.

¶El complemento   Jehová envió un profeta a Acab para pronunciar el juicio sobre él por su misericordia sobre Ben-hadad (1 Reyes 20:35 - 43)

^20:35Y un cierto varón de los hijos de los Profetas dijo a su compañero por Palabra de Dios, “Hiéreme ahora”. Pero el otro varón no quiso herirle. ^20:36Y él le dijo, “Por cuanto no has obedecido a la Palabra de Jehová, he aquí que cuando te apartes de mí, te herirá un león”. Y como se apartó de él, le topó un león, y le mató.

^20:37Luego se encontró con otro hombre, y le dijo, “Hiéreme, te ruego”. Y el hombre le dio un golpe, y le hizo una herida.

^20:38Y el Profeta se fue, y se puso delante del rey en el camino, y se disfrazó poniendo ceniza sobre su rostro. ^20:39Y como el rey pasaba, él dio voces al rey, y dijo, “Tu siervo salió entre la tropa; y he aquí apartándose uno, me trajo a un hombre, diciendo, ‘Guarda a este hombre, y si por alguna razón llegare a faltar, tu vida será por la suya, o pagarás un talento de plata’. ^20:40Y como tu siervo estaba ocupado a una parte y a otra, él desapareció”. Entonces el rey de Israel le dijo, “Ésa será tu sentencia; tú la has pronunciado”.

^20:41Pero él se quitó pronto la ceniza de sobre su rostro, y el rey de Israel conoció que era de los Profetas. ^20:42Y él le dijo, “¡Así dice Jehová, ‘Por cuanto soltaste de la mano el hombre de mi anatema, tu vida será por la suya, y tu pueblo por el suyo!’”

^20:43Y el rey de Israel se fue a su casa, triste y enojado; y él llegó a Samaria.
