Kings, Chapter 1.3: Jehovah judged the apostasy of Solomon by dividing Zion into Israel and Judah (1 Kings 11:1 - 14:20)

And his wives turned his heart away: ^11:4for it came to pass, when Solomon was old, that his wives turned his heart away after false gods; and his heart was not loyal with Jehovah his God, as was the heart of David his father: ^11:5for Solomon went after Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, and after Milcom the abomination of the Ammonites. ^11:6And Solomon did evil in the sight of Jehovah, and went not fully after Jehovah, as David his father did.

^11:7Then Solomon built a high place for Chemosh, the abomination of Moab, in the hill that is before Jerusalem; and for Moloch, the abomination of the children of Ammon. ^11:8And likewise did he for all his Gentile wives, which burned incense and sacrificed to their gods.

^11:9And Jehovah was angry with Solomon, because his heart had turned from Jehovah God of Israel, who had appeared to him twice, ^11:10and had commanded him concerning this thing, that he should not go after other gods; but he did not keep that which Jehovah commanded.

^11:11Therefore Jehovah said to Solomon, “Forasmuch as this is done by you, and you have not kept my Covenant and my Statutes, which I have commanded you, I will surely tear the kingdom from you, and will give it to your servant. ^11:12Notwithstanding I will not do it in your days for David your father’s sake; but I will tear it out of the hand of your son. ^11:13Nevertheless I will not tear away the entire kingdom, but will give one tribe to your son for David my servant’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake that I have chosen.”

^11:14And Jehovah stirred up an adversary to Solomon, Hadad the Edomite: he was of the king’s seed in Edom: ^11:15for it came to pass, when David was in Edom, and Joab the captain of the army had gone up to bury the slain, after he had smitten every male in Edom ^11:16(for six months did Joab remain there with all Israel, until he had cut off every male in Edom), ^11:17that Hadad fled, he and certain Edomites of his father’s servants with him, to go into Egypt (Hadad being still a little child). ^11:18And they arose out of Midian, and came to Paran; and they took men with them out of Paran, and they came to Egypt, to Pharaoh king of Egypt, which gave him a house, and appointed him provisions, and gave him land. ^11:19And Hadad found great favor in the sight of Pharaoh, so that he gave him to be his wife the sister of his own wife: the sister of Tahpenes the queen. ^11:20And the sister of Tahpenes bare him Genubath his son, whom Tahpenes weaned in Pharaoh’s house; and Genubath was in Pharaoh’s household among the sons of Pharaoh. ^11:21And when Hadad heard in Egypt that David slept with his fathers, and that Joab the captain of the army was dead, Hadad said to Pharaoh, “Let me depart, that I may go to my own country.” ^11:22Then Pharaoh said to him, “But what have you lacked with me, that, behold, you seek to go to your own country?” And he answered, “Nothing; nevertheless let me go anyway.”

^11:23And God stirred him up another adversary, Rezon the son of Eliadah, who fled from his lord Hadadezer king of Zobah. ^11:24And he gathered men to him, and became captain over a band, when David slew them of Zobah. And they went to Damascus, and dwelt in it, and reigned in Damascus. ^11:25And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mischief that Hadad did. And he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria.

^11:26And Jeroboam the son of Nebat, an Ephrathite of Zereda, Solomon’s servant (whose mother’s name was Zeruah, a widow woman), even he lifted up his hand against the king. ^11:27And this was the reason that he lifted up his hand against the king: Solomon built Millo, and repaired the breaches of the city of David his father. ^11:28And the man Jeroboam was a mighty man of valor; and Solomon, seeing the young man that he was industrious, made him ruler over all the government of the house of Joseph.

^11:29And it came to pass at that time when Jeroboam went out of Jerusalem, that the prophet Ahijah the Shilonite found him in the way; and he had clothed himself with a new garment. And they two were alone in the field; ^11:30and Ahijah caught the new garment that was on him, and tore it in twelve pieces. ^11:31And he said to Jeroboam, “Take ten pieces: for thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel: ‘Behold, I will tear the kingdom out of the hand of Solomon, and will give ten tribes to you ^11:32(but he shall have one tribe for my servant David’s sake, and for Jerusalem’s sake, the city which I have chosen out of all the tribes of Israel), ^11:33because they have forsaken me, and have worshipped Ashtoreth the goddess of the Zidonians, Chemosh the god of the Moabites, and Milcom the god of the children of Ammon; and have not walked in my ways, to do that which is right in my eyes, and to keep my Statutes and my Judgments, as David his father did. ^11:34Nevertheless I will not take the whole kingdom out of his hand; but I will make him prince all the days of his life for David my servant’s sake, whom I chose, because he kept my Commandments and my Statutes; ^11:35but I will take the kingdom out of his son’s hand, and will give it to you, even ten tribes. ^11:36And I will give one tribe to his son, that David my servant may have a light always before me in Jerusalem, the city which I have chosen me to put my Name there. ^11:37And I will take you, and you shall reign according to all that your soul desires, and shall be king over Israel. ^11:38And it shall be, if you will give heed to all that I command you, and will walk in my ways, and do that which is right in my sight, to keep my Statutes and my Commandments, as David my servant did, that I will be with you, and build you a sure house, as I built for David, and will give Israel to you. ^11:39And I will for this afflict the seed of David, but not forever.’”

^11:40Therefore Solomon tried to kill Jeroboam. And Jeroboam arose, and fled into Egypt, to Shishak king of Egypt; and he was in Egypt until the death of Solomon. ^11:41And the rest of the acts of Solomon, and all that he did, and his wisdom, are they not written in the book of the acts of Solomon? ^11:42And the time that Solomon reigned in Jerusalem over all Israel was forty years. ^11:43And Solomon slept with his fathers; and he was buried in the city of David his father; and Rehoboam his son reigned in his place.

^12:6And king Rehoboam consulted with the old men, that stood before Solomon his father while he still lived, and said, “How do you advise that I may answer this people?” ^12:7And they spoke to him, saying, “If you will be a servant to this people this day; and will serve them, and answer them, and speak good words to them, then they will be your servants forever.”

^12:8But he forsook the counsel of the old men, which they had given him; and he consulted with the young men that had grown up with him, and which stood before him; ^12:9and he said to them, “What counsel do you give that we may answer this people, who have spoken to me, saying, ‘Make the yoke which your father put upon us lighter?’” ^12:10And the young men that had grown up with him spoke to him, saying, “Thus shall you speak to this people that spoke to you, saying, ‘Your father made our yoke heavy, but make it lighter to us’: thus shall you say to them, ‘My little finger shall be thicker than my father’s waist. ^12:11And now whereas my father burdened you with a heavy yoke, I will add to your yoke; my father chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.’”

^12:12So Jeroboam and all the people came to Rehoboam the third day, as the king had appointed, saying, “Come again to me the third day.” ^12:13And the king answered the people roughly, and forsook the old men’s counsel that they gave him; ^12:14and he spoke to them after the counsel of the young men, saying, “My father made your yoke heavy; and I will add to your yoke; my father also chastised you with whips, but I will chastise you with scorpions.” ^12:15Therefore the king did not give heed to the people: for the cause was from Jehovah, that he might perform his saying, which Jehovah spoke by Ahijah the Shilonite to Jeroboam the son of Nebat. ^12:16So when all Israel saw that the king did not give heed to them, the people answered the king, saying, “What portion do we have in David? Neither do we have inheritance in the son of Jesse. To your tents, O Israel! Now see to your own house, David.” So Israel went to their tents. ^12:17But as for the children of Israel that dwelt in the cities of Judah, Rehoboam reigned over them.

^12:20And it came to pass, when all Israel heard that Jeroboam had returned, that they sent and called him to the congregation; and they made him king over all Israel.

There was none that followed the house of David, but the tribe of Judah only.

^12:21And when Rehoboam came to Jerusalem, he assembled all the house of Judah, with the tribe of Benjamin: one hundred and eighty thousand chosen men, which were warriors, to fight against the house of Israel, to bring the kingdom again to Rehoboam the son of Solomon.

^12:22But the Word of God came to Shemaiah the man of God, saying, ^12:23“Speak to Rehoboam, the son of Solomon, king of Judah, and to all the house of Judah and Benjamin, and to the remnant of the people, saying, ^12:24‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘You shall not go up, nor fight against your brethren the children of Israel. Return every man to his house: for this thing is from me.’’” Therefore they gave heed to the Word of Jehovah; and returned to depart, according to the Word of Jehovah.

^12:26And Jeroboam said in his heart, “Now shall the kingdom return to the house of David. ^12:27If this people goes up to do sacrifice in the House of Jehovah at Jerusalem, then shall the heart of this people return to their lord, even to Rehoboam king of Judah; and they shall kill me, and go again to Rehoboam king of Judah.”

^12:28Therefore the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold, and said to them, “It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem! Behold your gods, O Israel, which brought you up out of the land of Egypt.” ^12:29And he set one in Bethel, and the other he put in Dan.

^12:30And this thing became a sin: for the people went to worship before the one, even unto Dan.

^12:31And he made a house of high places, and made priests of the lowest of the people, which were not of the sons of Levi. ^12:32And Jeroboam ordained a feast in the eighth month, on the fifteenth day of the month, similar to the feast that is in Judah, and he offered upon the altar. So did he in Bethel, sacrificing to the calves that he had made; and he placed in Bethel the priests of the high places which he had made. ^12:33So he offered upon the altar which he had made in Bethel the fifteenth day of the eighth month, even in the month which he had devised of his own heart. And he ordained a feast to the children of Israel. And he offered upon the altar, and burned incense.

¶Opposite   Jehovah sent a prophet to Jeroboam to denounce his apostasy and pronounce Judgment upon him (1 Kings 13:1 - 10)

^13:1And, behold, a man of God came out of Judah by the Word of Jehovah to Bethel; and Jeroboam stood by the altar to burn incense. ^13:2And he cried against the altar in the Word of Jehovah, and said, “O altar, altar! Thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, a child shall be born to the house of David, Josiah by name; and upon you shall he offer the priests of the high places that burn incense upon you, and men’s bones shall be burned upon you.’”

^13:3And he gave a sign the same day, saying, “This is the sign that Jehovah has spoken, ‘Behold, the altar shall be broken, and the ashes that are upon it shall be poured out.’”

^13:4And it came to pass, when king Jeroboam heard the saying of the man of God, who had cried against the altar in Bethel, that he put forth his hand from the altar, saying, “Lay hold on him!” And his hand, which he put forth against him, dried up, so that he could not pull it in again to him. ^13:5The altar also was broken, and the ashes poured out from the altar, according to the sign that the man of God had given by the Word of Jehovah.

^13:6And the king answered and said to the man of God, “Entreat now the face of Jehovah your God, and pray for me, that my hand may be restored to me again.” And the man of God prayed to Jehovah, and the king’s hand was restored to him again, and became as it was before.

^13:7And the king said to the man of God, “Come home with me, and refresh yourself; and I will give you a reward.” ^13:8And the man of God said to the king, “If you will give me half your house, I will not go in with you; neither will I eat bread nor drink water in this place: ^13:9for so was it commanded me by the Word of Jehovah, saying, ‘Eat no bread, neither drink water, nor turn again by the same way that you came.’” ^13:10So he went another way, and did not return by the way that he came to Bethel.

^13:11Now an old prophet dwelt in Bethel; and his sons came and told him all the works that the man of God had done that day in Bethel; and the words which he had spoken to the king, them they told also to their father. ^13:12And their father said to them, “Which way did he go?” For his sons had seen which way the man of God had gone, which came from Judah. ^13:13And he said to his sons, “Saddle me the donkey.” So they saddled him the donkey; and he rode on it, ^13:14and went after the man of God, and found him sitting under an oak. And he said to him, “Are you the man of God that came from Judah?” And he said, “I am.” ^13:15Then he said to him, “Come home with me, and eat bread.” ^13:16And he said, “I may not return with you, nor go in with you; neither will I eat bread nor drink water with you in this place: ^13:17for it was said to me by the Word of Jehovah, ‘You shall not eat bread nor drink water there; neither turn again to go by the way that you came.’” ^13:18He said to him, “I am a prophet also as you are; and an angel spoke to me by the Word of Jehovah, saying, ‘Bring him back with you into your house, that he may eat bread and drink water.’” But he lied to him. ^13:19So he went back with him, and ate bread in his house, and drank water.

^13:20And it came to pass, as they sat at the table, that the Word of Jehovah came to the prophet that brought him back; ^13:21and he cried to the man of God that came from Judah, saying, “Thus says Jehovah: ‘Forasmuch as you have disobeyed the mouth of Jehovah, and have not kept the Commandment which Jehovah your God commanded you, ^13:22but came back, and have eaten bread and drunk water in the place, of the which Jehovah said to you, ‘Eat no bread, and drink no water’, your corpse shall not come into the grave of your fathers!’”

^13:23And it came to pass, after he had eaten bread, and after he had drunk, that he saddled the donkey for him: namely, for the prophet whom he had brought back. ^13:24And when he was gone, a lion met him by the way, and killed him; and his body was cast in the way, and the donkey stood by it; also the lion stood by the body.

^13:25And, behold, men passed by, and saw the body cast in the way, and the lion standing by the body; and they came and told it in the city where the old prophet dwelt. ^13:26And when the prophet that brought him back from the way heard of it, he said, “It is the man of God, who was disobedient to the Word of Jehovah; therefore Jehovah has delivered him to the lion, which has torn him, and slain him, according to the Word of Jehovah, which he spoke to him.” ^13:27And he spoke to his sons, saying, “Saddle me the donkey.” And they saddled it. ^13:28And he went and found his body cast in the way, and the donkey and the lion standing by the body; the lion had not eaten the body, nor torn the donkey. ^13:29And the prophet took up the body of the man of God, and laid it upon the donkey, and brought it back; and the old prophet came to the city, to mourn and to bury him. ^13:30And he laid his body in his own grave; and they mourned over him, saying, “Alas, my brother!”

^13:31And it came to pass, after he had buried him, that he spoke to his sons, saying, “When I am dead, then bury me in the grave in which the man of God is buried; lay my bones beside his bones: ^13:32for the saying which he cried by the Word of Jehovah against the altar in Bethel, and against all the houses of the high places which are in the cities of Samaria, shall surely come to pass.”

Behold, Ahijah the prophet is there, who told me that I would be king over this people. ^14:3And take with you ten loaves, and cakes, and a jar of honey, and go to him; he shall tell you what shall become of the child.” ^14:4And Jeroboam’s wife did so, and arose, and went to Shiloh, and came to the house of Ahijah.

But Ahijah could not see: for his eyes were set by reason of his age. ^14:5And Jehovah said to Ahijah, “Behold, the wife of Jeroboam is coming to ask a thing of you for her son: for he is sick. Thus and thus shall you say to her: for it shall be, when she comes in, that she shall pretend herself to be another woman.”

^14:6And it was so, when Ahijah heard the sound of her feet as she came in at the door, that he said, “Come in, you wife of Jeroboam! Why do you pretend yourself to be another? For I am sent to you with unpleasant news. ^14:7Go, tell Jeroboam, ‘Thus says Jehovah God of Israel: ‘Forasmuch as I exalted you from among the people, and made you prince over my people Israel, ^14:8and tore the kingdom away from the house of David, and gave it to you; and yet you have not been as my servant David, who kept my Commandments, and who followed me with all his heart, to do only right in my eyes; ^14:9but you have done evil above all that were before you: for you have gone and made you other gods, and molten images, to provoke me to anger, and have cast me behind your back; ^14:10therefore, behold, I will bring evil upon the house of Jeroboam, and will cut off from Jeroboam every male, and him that is shut up and left in Israel; and I will take away the remnant of the house of Jeroboam, as a man takes away dung, until it is all gone. ^14:11He that dies of Jeroboam in the city shall the dogs eat; and him that dies in the field shall the birds of the air eat: for Jehovah has spoken it. ^14:12Therefore arise, and go to your own house; and when your feet enter into the city, the child shall die. ^14:13And all Israel shall mourn for him, and bury him: for only he of Jeroboam’s family shall come to the grave, because in him there is found some good thing toward Jehovah God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam. ^14:14Moreover Jehovah shall raise him up a king over Israel, who shall cut off the house of Jeroboam that day. But what? Even now: ^14:15for Jehovah shall smite Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water, and he shall root up Israel out of this good land, which he gave to their fathers, and shall scatter them beyond the Euphrates river, because they have made their images of Asherah, provoking Jehovah to anger. ^14:16And he shall give Israel up because of the sins of Jeroboam: who sinned, and who made Israel to sin.’”

^11:1Pero el rey Salomón amó, además de la hija de Faraón, a muchas mujeres extranjeras; a las moabitas, amonitas, edomitas, sidonias y heteas; ^11:2naciones de las cuales Jehová había dicho a los hijos de Israel, “No entraréis a ellas, ni ellas entrarán a ustedes: porque ciertamente harán inclinar vuestros corazones tras sus dioses”. A éstas se juntó Salomón con amor. ^11:3Y tuvo setecientas esposas reinas, y trescientas concubinas.

Y sus esposas torcieron su corazón: ^11:4porque aconteció que cuando Salomón era viejo, sus esposas inclinaron su corazón tras dioses ajenos; y su corazón no era perfecto para con Jehová su Dios, como lo fue el corazón de su padre David: ^11:5porque Salomón siguió a Astarot, diosa de los sidonios, y a Milcom, ídolo abominable de los amonitas. ^11:6E hizo Salomón lo malo en los ojos de Jehová, y no siguió cumplidamente a Jehová como David su padre.

^11:7Entonces edificó Salomón un lugar alto a Quemos, ídolo abominable de Moab, en el monte que está enfrente de Jerusalén; y a Moloc, ídolo abominable de los hijos de Amón. ^11:8Y así hizo para todas sus esposas extranjeras, las cuales quemaban incienso y ofrecían sacrificios a sus dioses.

^11:9Y se enojó Jehová contra Salomón, por cuanto su corazón se había desviado de Jehová Dios de Israel, que le había aparecido dos veces, ^11:10y le había mandado acerca de esto, que no siguiese dioses ajenos; pero él no guardó lo que le mandó Jehová.

^11:11Y dijo Jehová a Salomón, “Por cuanto ha habido esto en ti, y no has guardado mi Pacto y mis Estatutos que yo te mandé, romperé el reino de ti, y lo entregaré a tu siervo. ^11:12Sin embargo no lo haré en tus días, por amor de David tu padre; lo romperé de la mano de tu hijo. ^11:13Sin embargo no romperé todo el reino, sino que daré una tribu a tu hijo, por amor de David mi siervo, y por amor de Jerusalén la cual yo he elegido”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová dio a la mayoría de las tribus de Israel al siervo de Salomón, Jeroboam hijo de Nabat (1 Reyes 11:14 - 43)

^11:14Y Jehová levantó un adversario a Salomón, Hadad un edomita, de la sangre real, el cual estaba en Edom. ^11:15Y sucedió que cuando David estaba en Edom, y Joab, el general del ejército, subió a enterrar a los muertos y mató a todos los varones de Edom ^11:16(porque seis meses habitó allí Joab, y todo Israel, hasta que hubo acabado a todo el sexo masculino en Edom), ^11:17Hadad huyó, y con él algunos varones edomitas de los siervos de su padre, y se fue a Egipto, siendo Hadad aún un muchacho. ^11:18Y se levantaron de Madián, y vinieron a Parán; y tomando consigo hombres de Parán, se vinieron a Egipto, a Faraón rey de Egipto, el cual le dio casa, y le señaló alimentos, y aun le dio tierra. ^11:19Y halló Hadad grande favor delante de Faraón, el cual le dio por esposa a la hermana de su esposa, a la hermana de la reina Tahpenes. ^11:20Y la hermana de Tahpenes le dio a luz a su hijo Genubat, al cual destetó Tahpenes dentro de la casa de Faraón; y estaba Genubat en casa de Faraón entre los hijos de Faraón. ^11:21Y oyendo Hadad en Egipto que David había dormido con sus padres, y que era muerto Joab general del ejército, Hadad dijo a Faraón, “Déjame ir a mi tierra”. ^11:22Y le respondió Faraón, “¿Por qué? ¿Qué te falta conmigo, que procuras irte a tu tierra?”. Y él respondió, “Nada; con todo, te ruego que me dejes ir”.

^11:23Y Dios le levantó otro adversario, Rezón, hijo de Eliada, el cual había huido de su amo Hadad-ezer, rey de Soba. ^11:24Y había juntado gente contra él, y se había hecho capitán de una compañía, cuando David deshizo a los de Soba. Después se fueron a Damasco, y habitaron allí y le hicieron rey en Damasco. ^11:25Y fue adversario a Israel todos los días de Salomón; y fue otro mal con el de Hadad: porque aborreció a Israel, y reinó sobre Siria.

^11:26Asimismo Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, efrateo de Zeredat, siervo de Salomón, cuya madre se llamaba Zerúa, mujer viuda, alzó su mano contra el rey. ^11:27Y la causa por la cual éste alzó su mano contra el rey, fue ésta: Salomón edificando a Milo, cerró el portillo de la ciudad de David su padre. ^11:28Y el varón Jeroboam era valiente y esforzado; y viendo Salomón al joven que era hombre activo, le encomendó todo el cargo de la casa de José.

^11:29Aconteció, pues, en aquel tiempo, que saliendo Jeroboam de Jerusalén, le encontró en el camino el Profeta Ahías Silonita; y éste estaba cubierto con una capa nueva; y estaban ellos dos solos en el campo. ^11:30Y trabando Ahías de la capa nueva que tenía sobre sí, la rompió en doce pedazos, ^11:31y dijo a Jeroboam, “Toma para ti diez pedazos: porque así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel, ‘He aquí que yo romperé el reino de la mano de Salomón, y a ti daré diez tribus ^11:32(pero él tendrá una tribu, por amor de David mi siervo, y por amor de Jerusalén, ciudad que yo he elegido de todas las tribus de Israel); ^11:33por cuanto me han dejado, y han adorado a Astarot diosa de los sidonios, y a Quemos dios de Moab, y a Moloc dios de los hijos de Amón; y no han andado en mis caminos, para hacer lo recto delante de mis ojos, y guardar mis Estatutos, y mis Derechos, como hizo David su padre. ^11:34Pero no quitaré todo el reino de sus manos, sino que lo retendré por príncipe todos los días de su vida, por amor de David mi siervo, al cual yo elegí, y él guardó mis Mandamientos y mis Estatutos; ^11:35pero quitaré el reino de la mano de su hijo, y lo daré a ti, las diez tribus. ^11:36Y a su hijo daré una tribu, para que mi siervo David tenga lámpara todos los días delante de mí en Jerusalén, ciudad que yo me elegí para poner en ella mi Nombre. ^11:37Yo, pues, te tomaré a ti, y tú reinarás en todas las cosas que deseare tu alma, y serás rey sobre Israel. ^11:38Y será que, si prestares oído a todas las cosas que te mandare, y anduvieres en mis caminos, e hicieres lo recto delante de mis ojos, guardando mis Estatutos y mis Mandamientos, como hizo David mi siervo, yo seré contigo, y te edificaré casa firme, como la edifiqué a David, y yo te entregaré a Israel. ^11:39Y yo afligiré la simiente de David a causa de esto, pero no para siempre’”.

^11:40Procuró por tanto Salomón matar a Jeroboam, pero levantándose Jeroboam, huyó a Egipto, a Sisac rey de Egipto, y estuvo en Egipto hasta la muerte de Salomón. ^11:41Lo demás de los hechos de Salomón, y todas las cosas que hizo, y su sabiduría, ¿no están escritas en el libro de los hechos de Salomón? ^11:42Y los días que Salomón reinó en Jerusalén sobre todo Israel, fueron cuarenta años. ^11:43Y durmió Salomón con sus padres, y fue sepultado en la ciudad de su padre David; y reinó en su lugar Roboam su hijo.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: El Reino de Sión se dividió en dos reinos rivales: Judá (con Benjamín) e Israel (las otras diez tribus) (1 Reyes 12:1 - 13:32)

¶Único   Roboam prestó atención a los malos consejos y perdió el control de la mayor parte del Reino de Israel (1 Reyes 12:1 - 17)

^12:1Y Roboam fue a Siquem: porque todo Israel había venido a Siquem para hacerlo rey.

^12:2Y aconteció que cuando lo oyó Jeroboam hijo de Nabat, que estaba en Egipto: porque había huido de delante del rey Salomón, y habitaba en Egipto; ^12:3enviaron y le llamaron. Vino, pues, Jeroboam y toda la congregación de Israel, y hablaron a Roboam, diciendo, ^12:4“Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo, pero ahora tú disminuye algo de la dura servidumbre de tu padre, y del yugo pesado que puso sobre nosotros, y te serviremos”. ^12:5Y él les dijo, “Idos, y de aquí a tres días volved a mí”. Y el pueblo se fue.

^12:6Entonces el rey Roboam tomó consejo con los ancianos que habían estado delante de Salomón su padre cuando vivía, y dijo, “¿Cómo aconsejáis ustedes que responda a este pueblo?”. ^12:7Y ellos le hablaron, diciendo, “Si tú fueres hoy siervo de este pueblo, y lo sirvieres, y si les respondieres, y les hablares buenas palabras, ellos te servirán para siempre”.

^12:8Pero él dejó el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado, y pidió consejo de los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, y estaban delante de él. ^12:9Y les dijo, “¿Cómo aconsejáis ustedes que respondamos a este pueblo, que me ha hablado, diciendo, ‘Disminuye algo del yugo que tu padre puso sobre nosotros?’” ^12:10Entonces los jóvenes que se habían criado con él, le respondieron, diciendo, “Así hablarás a este pueblo que te ha dicho estas palabras, ‘Tu padre agravó nuestro yugo; pero tú disminúyenos algo’; así les hablarás, ‘Mi dedo meñique es más grueso que los lomos de mi padre. ^12:11Ahora, pues, mi padre os cargó de pesado yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones’”.

^12:12Y al tercer día vino Jeroboam con todo el pueblo a Roboam; según el rey lo había mandado, diciendo, “Volved a mí al tercer día”. ^12:13Y el rey respondió al pueblo duramente, dejando el consejo que los ancianos le habían dado; ^12:14y les habló conforme al consejo de los jóvenes, diciendo, “Mi padre agravó vuestro yugo, pero yo añadiré a vuestro yugo; mi padre os castigó con azotes, pero yo os castigaré con escorpiones”. ^12:15Y no oyó el rey al pueblo: porque esto venía de parte de Jehová, para confirmar la Palabra que Jehová había hablado por medio de Ahías Silonita a Jeroboam hijo de Nabat. ^12:16Y cuando todo el pueblo vio que el rey no les había oído, le respondió estas palabras, diciendo, “¿Qué parte tenemos nosotros con David? No tenemos heredad en el hijo de Isaí. ¡Israel, a tus tiendas! ¡Provee ahora en tu casa, David!”. Entonces Israel se fue a sus tiendas. ^12:17Pero reinó Roboam sobre los hijos de Israel que moraban en las ciudades de Judá.

¶El complemento   Jeroboam fue ungido como el nuevo rey sobre el Reino del norte de Israel (1 Reyes 12:18 - 24)

^12:18Y el rey Roboam envió a Adoram, que estaba sobre los tributos; pero le apedreó todo Israel, y murió. Entonces el rey Roboam se apresuró para subir en su carro y huir a Jerusalén. ^12:19Así se apartó Israel de la casa de David hasta hoy.

^12:20Y aconteció, que oyendo todo Israel que Jeroboam había vuelto, enviaron a llamarle a la congregación, y le hicieron rey sobre todo Israel.

Sin quedar tribu alguna que siguiese la casa de David, sino sólo la tribu de Judá.

^12:21Y cuando Roboam vino a Jerusalén, juntó toda la casa de Judá y la tribu de Benjamín, ciento ochenta mil hombres guerreros escogidos, para hacer guerra a la casa de Israel, y devolver el reino a Roboam hijo de Salomón.

^12:22Pero vino Palabra de Jehová a Semaías varón de Dios, diciendo, ^12:23“Habla a Roboam hijo de Salomón, rey de Judá, y a toda la casa de Judá y de Benjamín, y a los demás del pueblo, diciendo, ^12:24‘Así dice Jehová, ‘No vayáis, ni peleéis contra vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel; volveos cada uno a su casa: porque esto lo he hecho yo’’”. Y oyeron la Palabra de Dios, y se volvieron, y se fueron, conforme a la Palabra de Jehová.

¶El complemento   Jeroboam creó una nueva religión similar a la verdadera fe de Jehová, en un intento por evitar que su pueblo vaya a Jerusalén a adorar (1 Reyes 12:25 - 33)

^12:25Y reedificó Jeroboam a Siquem en el monte de Efraín, y habitó en ella; y saliendo de allí, reedificó a Peniel.

^12:26Y dijo Jeroboam en su corazón, “Ahora se volverá el reino a la casa de David, ^12:27si este pueblo subiere a ofrecer sacrificios en la Casa de Jehová en Jerusalén: porque el corazón de este pueblo se volverá a su señor Roboam rey de Judá, y me matarán a mí, y se volverán a Roboam rey de Judá”.

^12:28Y habiendo tomado consejo, hizo el rey dos becerros de oro, y dijo al pueblo, “Bastante habéis subido a Jerusalén; he aquí tus dioses, oh Israel, que te hicieron subir de la tierra de Egipto”. ^12:29Y el uno lo puso en Betel, y el otro lo puso en Dan.

^12:30Y esto fue ocasión de pecado: porque el pueblo iba a adorar delante de uno, aun hasta Dan.

^12:31Hizo también la casa de los lugares altos, e hizo sacerdotes de la clase baja del pueblo, que no eran de los hijos de Leví. ^12:32Entonces instituyó Jeroboam fiesta solemne en el mes octavo, a los quince del mes, conforme a la fiesta solemne que se celebraba en Judá; y sacrificó sobre el altar. Así hizo en Betel, ofreciendo sacrificio a los becerros que había hecho. Y estableció en Betel a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que él había edificado. ^12:33Sacrificó, pues, sobre el altar que él había hecho en Betel, a los quince del mes octavo, el mes que él había inventado de su propio corazón; e hizo fiesta a los hijos de Israel, y subió al altar para quemar incienso.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová envió un profeta a Jeroboam para denunciar su apostasía y pronunciar sentencia contra él (1 Reyes 13:1 - 10)

^13:1Y he aquí que un varón de Dios por Palabra de Jehová vino de Judá a Betel; y estando Jeroboam junto al altar para quemar incienso, ^13:2clamó contra el altar por Palabra de Jehová, y dijo, “¡Altar, altar! Así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí que a la casa de David nacerá un hijo, llamado Josías, el cual sacrificará sobre ti a los sacerdotes de los lugares altos que queman sobre ti incienso; y sobre ti quemarán huesos de hombres’”.

^13:3Y aquel mismo día dio una señal, diciendo, “Ésta es la señal de que Jehová ha hablado, ‘He aquí que el altar se quebrará, y la ceniza que está sobre él se derramará’”.

^13:4Y sucedió que cuando el rey Jeroboam oyó la Palabra del varón de Dios, que había clamado contra el altar de Betel, extendiendo su mano desde el altar, dijo, “¡Prendedle!”. Pero la mano que había extendido contra él, se le secó, de manera que no pudo volverla hacia sí. ^13:5Y el altar se rompió, y se derramó la ceniza del altar, conforme a la señal que el varón de Dios había dado por Palabra de Jehová.

^13:6Entonces respondiendo el rey, dijo al varón de Dios, “Te pido que ruegues a la faz de Jehová tu Dios, y ores por mí, que mi mano me sea restaurada”. Y el varón de Dios oró a la faz de Jehová, y la mano del rey se le restauró, y volvió a ser como antes.

^13:7Y el rey dijo al varón de Dios, “Ven conmigo a casa, y comerás, y yo te daré un presente”. ^13:8Pero el varón de Dios dijo al rey, “Aunque me dieses la mitad de tu casa, no iría contigo, ni comería pan ni bebería agua en este lugar: ^13:9porque así me está ordenado por Palabra de Jehová, diciendo, ‘No comas pan, ni bebas agua, ni vuelvas por el mismo camino que viniste’”. ^13:10Se fue, pues, por otro camino, y no volvió por el camino por donde había venido a Betel.

¶Lo opuesto   Un viejo profeta apóstata atrapó al profeta con una mentira, lo que llevó a su muerte (1 Reyes 13:11 - 32)

^13:11Moraba entonces en Betel un viejo profeta, al cual vinieron sus hijos, y le contaron todo lo que el varón de Dios había hecho aquel día en Betel; le contaron también a su padre las palabras que había hablado al rey. ^13:12Y su padre les dijo, “¿Por cuál camino se fue?”. Pues sus hijos habían visto por cuál camino se había ido el varón de Dios, que había venido de Judá. ^13:13Y él dijo a sus hijos, “Enalbardadme el asno”. Y ellos le enalbardaron el asno, y subió en él. ^13:14Y fue tras el varón de Dios, y le halló sentado debajo de un alcornoque; y le dijo, “¿Eres tú el varón de Dios que vino de Judá?”. Y él dijo, “Yo soy”. ^13:15Le dijo entonces, “Ven conmigo a casa, y come pan”. ^13:16Pero él respondió, “No podré volver contigo, ni iré contigo; ni tampoco comeré pan ni beberé agua contigo en este lugar: ^13:17porque por Palabra de Dios me ha sido dicho, ‘No comas pan ni bebas agua allí, ni vuelvas por el camino que viniste’”. ^13:18Y el otro le dijo, “Yo también soy profeta como tú, y un ángel me ha hablado por Palabra de Jehová, diciendo, ‘Vuélvele contigo a tu casa, para que coma pan y beba agua’”. Pero le mintió. ^13:19Entonces volvió con él, y comió del pan en su casa, y bebió del agua.

^13:20Y aconteció que, estando ellos a la mesa, vino Palabra de Jehová al profeta que le había hecho volver. ^13:21Y clamó al varón de Dios que había venido de Judá, diciendo, “¡Así dijo Jehová! ‘¡Por cuanto has sido rebelde al dicho de Jehová, y no guardaste el mandamiento que Jehová tu Dios te había prescrito, ^13:22sino que volviste, y comiste del pan y bebiste del agua en el lugar donde Jehová te había dicho que no comieses pan ni bebieses agua, no entrará tu cuerpo en el sepulcro de tus padres!’”

^13:23Y sucedió que cuando hubo comido pan y bebido, el profeta que le había hecho volver le enalbardó un asno. ^13:24Y yéndose, le topó un león en el camino, y le mató; y su cuerpo estaba echado en el camino, y el asno estaba junto a él, y el león también estaba junto al cuerpo.

^13:25Y he aquí unos que pasaban, y vieron el cuerpo que estaba echado en el camino, y el león que estaba junto al cuerpo; y vinieron, y lo dijeron en la ciudad donde el viejo profeta habitaba. ^13:26Y oyéndolo el profeta que le había hecho volver del camino, dijo, “El varón de Dios es, que fue rebelde a la Palabra de Jehová; por tanto Jehová le ha entregado al león, que le ha destrozado y matado, conforme a la Palabra que Jehová le había dicho”. ^13:27Y habló a sus hijos, y les dijo, “Enalbardadme un asno”. Y ellos se lo enalbardaron. ^13:28Y él fue, y halló su cuerpo tendido en el camino, y el asno y el león estaban junto al cuerpo; el león no había comido el cuerpo, ni dañado al asno. ^13:29Y tomando el profeta el cuerpo del varón de Dios, lo puso sobre el asno, y se lo llevó. Y el profeta viejo vino a la ciudad, para endecharle y enterrarle. ^13:30Y puso su cuerpo en su propio sepulcro; e hicieron luto por él, diciendo, “¡Ay, hermano mío!”.

^13:31Y sucedió que después de haberlo enterrado, habló a sus hijos, diciendo, “Cuando yo muera, enterradme en el sepulcro en que está sepultado el varón de Dios; poned mis huesos junto a los suyos: ^13:32porque sin duda vendrá lo que él dijo a voces por Palabra de Jehová contra el altar que está en Betel, y contra todas las casas de los lugares altos que están en las ciudades de Samaria”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El pecado de Jeroboam trajo el juicio de Dios sobre toda su familia (1 Reyes 13:33 - 14:20)

¶El complemento   Jehová dio un mensaje escalofriante de juicio a la esposa de Jeroboam para darle a su esposo (1 Reyes 13:33 - 14:16)

^13:33Aun después de esto, Jeroboam no se volvió de su mal camino; sino que volvió a hacer sacerdotes de los lugares altos de entre la clase baja del pueblo, y a quien quería lo consagraba para que fuese de los sacerdotes de los lugares altos.

^13:34Y esto fue causa de pecado a la casa de Jeroboam; por lo cual fue cortada y raída de sobre la faz de la tierra.

^14:1En aquel tiempo Abías hijo de Jeroboam cayó enfermo, ^14:2y dijo Jeroboam a su esposa, “Levántate ahora, disfrázate, para que no te conozcan que eres la esposa de Jeroboam, y ve a Silo. Que allá está Ahías Profeta, el que me dijo que yo había de ser rey sobre este pueblo. ^14:3Y toma en tu mano diez panes, y turrones, y una botija de miel, y ve a él; que te declare lo que ha de ser de este niño”. ^14:4Y la esposa de Jeroboam lo hizo así; y se levantó, y fue a Silo, y vino a casa de Ahías.

Pero Ahías ya no podía ver: porque sus ojos se habían oscurecido a causa de su vejez. ^14:5Pero Jehová había dicho a Ahías, “He aquí que la esposa de Jeroboam vendrá a consultarte por su hijo, que está enfermo; así y así le has de responder; pues será que cuando ella viniere, vendrá disfrazada”.

^14:6Y sucedió que cuando Ahías oyó el sonido de sus pies, al entrar ella por la puerta, dijo, “¡Entra, esposa de Jeroboam! ¿Por qué te finges otra? Pues soy enviado a ti con revelación dura. ^14:7Ve di a Jeroboam, ‘Así dijo Jehová Dios de Israel: ‘Por cuanto yo te levanté de en medio del pueblo, y te hice príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel, ^14:8y rompí el reino de la casa de David, y te lo entregué a ti; y tú no has sido como David mi siervo, que guardó mis Mandamientos y anduvo en pos de mí con todo su corazón, haciendo solamente lo recto delante de mis ojos; ^14:9sino que has hecho lo malo sobre todos los que han sido antes de ti: porque fuiste y te hiciste dioses ajenos e imágenes de fundición para enojarme, y a mí me echaste tras tus espaldas; ^14:10por tanto, he aquí que yo traigo mal sobre la casa de Jeroboam, y yo talaré de Jeroboam todos los varones, así el guardado como el desamparado en Israel; y barreré la posteridad de la casa de Jeroboam, como es barrido el estiércol, hasta que sea acabada. ^14:11El que muriere de los de Jeroboam en la ciudad, le comerán los perros; y el que muriere en el campo, lo comerán las aves del cielo: porque Jehová lo ha dicho. ^14:12Y tú levántate, y vete a tu casa; y al poner tu pie en la ciudad, morirá el niño. ^14:13Y todo Israel lo endechará, y le enterrarán: porque sólo él de los de Jeroboam entrará en sepultura: porque algo bueno se ha hallado en él delante de Jehová Dios de Israel, en la casa de Jeroboam. ^14:14Y Jehová se levantará un rey sobre Israel, el cual talará la casa de Jeroboam en este día. ¿Y qué, si ahora mismo? ^14:15Y Jehová sacudirá a Israel, al modo que la caña se agita en las aguas; y él arrancará a Israel de esta buena tierra que había dado a sus padres, y los esparcirá hacia el otro lado del río, por cuanto han hecho sus imágenes de Asera, enojando a Jehová. ^14:16Y él entregará a Israel por los pecados de Jeroboam, el cual pecó, y ha hecho pecar a Israel’’”.

¶El complemento   Jeroboam falló a prestar atención al mensaje de Juicio desde Jehová sobre su casa (1 Reyes 14:17 - 20)

^14:17Y la esposa de Jeroboam se levantó, y se fue.

Y ella vino a Tirsa; y entrando ella por el umbral de la casa, el niño murió. ^14:18Y lo enterraron, y lo endechó todo Israel, conforme a la Palabra de Jehová, que él había hablado por mano de su siervo Ahías Profeta.

^14:19Los otros hechos de Jeroboam, las guerras que hizo, y cómo reinó, todo está escrito en el libro de las historias de los reyes de Israel.

^14:20El tiempo que reinó Jeroboam fue veintidós años.

Y habiendo dormido con sus padres, reinó en su lugar Nadab su hijo.
