^17:3And when he had restored the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, his mother said, “I had wholly dedicated the silver to Jehovah from my hand for my son, to make a carved image and a molten image; now therefore I will restore it to you.”

^17:4Yet he restored the money to his mother; and his mother took two hundred shekels of silver; and she gave them to the silversmith, who made of it a carved image and a molten image; and they were in the house of Micah.

^17:5And the man Micah had a house of gods; and he made an ephod, and teraphim, and consecrated one of his sons, who became his priest.

^17:6In those days, there was no king in Israel: every man did what was right in his own eyes.

^17:7And there was a young man out of Bethlehem-Judah of the family of Judah, who was a Levite, and he sojourned there.

^17:8And the man went out of the city from Bethlehem-Judah to sojourn wherever he could find a place; and he came to mount Ephraim to the house of Micah, as he journeyed.

^17:9And Micah said to him, “Where do you come from?” And he said to him, “I am a Levite of Bethlehem-Judah, and I go to stay wherever I may find a place.” ^17:10And Micah said to him, “Dwell with me, and be a father and a priest to me, and I will give you ten shekels of silver yearly, and a provision of clothing, and your food.” So the Levite went in.

^17:11And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was to him as one of his sons. ^17:12And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.

^17:13Then Micah said, “Now I know that Jehovah will do me good, seeing I have a Levite to be my priest.”

§Complement   Body: The sex crimes of the city of Gibeah led to civil war between Benjamin and the other tribes eleven of Israel (18:1 - 20:17)

^18:1In those days, there was no king in Israel; and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in: for until that day all their inheritance had not fallen to them among the tribes of Israel. ^18:2And the children of Dan sent five men of their family from their territories, men of valor, from Zorah, and from Eshtaol, to spy out the land, and to search it. And they said to them, “Go, search the land", who when they came to mount Ephraim, to the house of Micah, they stayed there.

^18:3When they were by the house of Micah, they recognized the voice of the young man the Levite; and they turned in there, and said to him, “Who brought you here? And what do you make in this place? And what do you have here?” ^18:4And he said to them, “Thus and thus Micah deals with me, and has hired me; and I am his priest.”

^18:5And they said to him, “Please, ask counsel of God, that we may know whether our way which we go shall be prosperous.” ^18:6And the priest said to them, “Go in peace: before Jehovah is your way that you go in.”

^18:7Then the five men left, and came to Laish, and saw the people that were in it, how they dwelt carelessly, after the manner of the Zidonians, quiet and secure. And there was no authority in the land, that might put them to shame in any thing; and they were far from the Zidonians, and had no business with any man.

^18:8And they came to their brethren to Zorah and Eshtaol; and their brethren said to them, “What do you say?” ^18:9And they said, “Arise, that we may go up against them: for we have seen the land; and, behold, it is very good. And are you still? Be not reluctant to go, and to enter to possess the land. ^18:10When you go, you shall come to a people secure, and to a large land: for God has given it into your hands; a place where there is no want of anything that is in the earth.”

^18:11And there went from there of the family of the Danites (out of Zorah and out of Eshtaol) six hundred men armed with weapons of war. ^18:12And they went up, and camped in Kirjath-jearim, in Judah; therefore they called that place Mahaneh-dan until this day; behold, it is behind Kirjath-jearim.

^18:13And they passed from there to mount Ephraim, and came to the house of Micah. ^18:14Then answered the five men that went to spy out the country of Laish, and they said to their brethren, “Do you know that there is in these houses an ephod, and teraphim, and a carved image, and a molten image? Now therefore consider what you have to do.”

^18:15And they turned in that direction, and came to the house of the young man the Levite, that is, to the house of Micah; and greeted him. ^18:16And the six hundred men appointed with their weapons of war, which were of the children of Dan, stood by the entering of the gate. ^18:17And the five men that went to spy out the land went up, and came in there, and took the carved image, the ephod, the teraphim, and the molten image; and the priest stood in the entering of the gate with the six hundred men that were armed with weapons of war. ^18:18And these went into Micah's house, and brought the carved image, the ephod, and the teraphim, and the molten image. Then the priest said to them, “What are you doing?” ^18:19And they said to him, “Hold your peace; lay your hand upon your mouth, and go with us; and be a father and a priest to us. Is it better for you to be a priest to the house of one man, or that you be a priest to a tribe and a family in Israel?” ^18:20And the priest's heart was glad, and he took the ephod, the teraphim, and the carved image, and went in the midst of the people. ^18:21So they turned and left, and put the little ones and the cattle and the belongings before them.

^18:22And when they were a good way from the house of Micah, the men that were in the houses near to Micah's house were gathered together, and overtook the children of Dan. ^18:23And they cried to the children of Dan. And they turned their faces, and said to Micah, “What troubles you, that you come with such a company?” ^18:24And he said, “You have taken away my gods which I made, and the priest, and you have gone away. And what have I more? And what is this that you say to me, ‘What troubles you?’” ^18:25And the children of Dan said to him, “Let your voice not be heard among us, lest angry men run upon you; and you lose your life, with the lives of your household.” ^18:26And the children of Dan went their way; and when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house.

^18:27And they took the idols which Micah had made, and the priest which he had, and came to Laish, to a people that were at peace and secure; and they smote them with the edge of the sword, and burned the city with fire. ^18:28And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Zidon, and they had no business with any man; and it was in the valley that lies by Beth-rehob. And they built a city, and dwelt in it; ^18:29and they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel; nevertheless the name of the city was Laish at the first. ^18:30And the children of Dan set up the carved image; and Jonathan, the son of Gershom, the son of Manasseh, he and his sons were priests to the tribe of Dan until the day of the captivity of the land. ^18:31And they set them up Micah's carved image, which he made, all the time that the House of God was in Shiloh.

^19:3And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak kindly to her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of donkeys; and she brought him into her father's house. And when the father of the girl saw him, he rejoiced to meet him. ^19:4And his father-in-law, the girl's father, retained him; and he stayed with him three days: so they ate and drank, and lodged there.

^19:5And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart; and the girl's father said to his son-in-law, “Comfort your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterwards go your way.” ^19:6And they sat down, and both of them ate and drank together: for the girl's father had said to the man, “Be content, please, and stay all night, and let your heart be merry.” ^19:7And when the man rose up to depart, his father-in-law urged him; therefore he lodged there again.

^19:8And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the girl's father said, “Please, comfort your heart.” And they stayed until afternoon, and they ate, both of them.

^19:9And when the man rose up to depart, he, his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the girl's father, said to him, “Behold, now the day is drawing toward evening: please stay all night; behold, the day is growing to an end; lodge here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go early on your way, that you may go home.”

^19:10But the man would not stay that night, so he rose up and left, and came over near Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two donkeys saddled, his concubine also was with him. ^19:11And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, “Please, come and let us turn in to this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.” ^19:12But his master said to him, “We will not turn aside here into the city of a Gentile, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.” ^19:13And he said to his servant, “Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to stay all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.” ^19:14And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin. ^19:15And they turned aside there, to go in and stay the night in Gibeah. And when he went in, he sat himself down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his home to stay the night.

^19:16And, behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening, who was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites. ^19:17And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a traveling man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? And where did you come from?” ^19:18And he said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem-Judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; I am from there; and I went to Bethlehem-Judah, but now I go to the House of Jehovah; and there is no man that receives me into his home. ^19:19Yet there is both straw and provender for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your maidservant, and for the young man which is with your servants; there is no want of anything.”

^19:20And the old man said, “Peace be with you; nevertheless let all your wants lie upon me; only do not stay in the street.” ^19:21So he brought him into his house, and gave provender to the donkeys; and they washed their feet; and ate and drank.

^19:22As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the homosexual men of the city, certain sons of Belial, surrounded the house, and beat at the door, and spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring forth the man that came into your house, that we may know him!” ^19:23And the man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brethren, no; please, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man has come into my house, do not this foolishness. ^19:24Behold, here is my daughter a virgin, and his concubine; I will bring them out now; and humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but do not so vile a thing to this man.”

^19:25But the men would not listen to him, so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth to them. And they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning. And when the day began to dawn, they let her go.

^19:26Then the woman came in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man's house where her lord was, until it was light. ^19:27And her lord rose up in the morning, and opened the doors of the house, and went out to go his way. And, behold, the woman his concubine had fallen down at the door of the house, and her hands were upon the threshold. ^19:28And he said to her, “Arise, and let us be going.” But none answered.

Then the man took her up upon a donkey, and the man rose up, and went to his place. ^19:29And when he came into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the territory of Israel. ^19:30And it was so, that all that saw it said, “There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt until this day. Consider it, take advice, and speak your minds.”

^20:1Then all the children of Israel went out; and the congregation was gathered together as one man, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, with the land of Gilead, to Jehovah in Mizpeh. ^20:2And the chief of all the people, even of all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand footmen that drew sword. ^20:3(Now the children of Benjamin heard that the children of Israel had gone up to Mizpeh.) Then the children of Israel said, “Tell us, how was this wickedness?” ^20:4And the Levite, the husband of the woman that was slain, answered and said, “I came into Gibeah that belongs to Benjamin, I and my concubine, to spend the night. ^20:5And the men of Gibeah rose against me, and beset the house round about upon me by night, and thought to have slain me. And they have assaulted my concubine, so that she is dead. ^20:6And I took my concubine, and cut her in pieces, and sent her throughout all the country of the inheritance of Israel: for they have committed lewdness and folly in Israel. ^20:7Behold, you are all children of Israel; give here your advice and counsel.”

^20:8And all the people arose as one man, saying, “We will not any of us go to his tent; neither will we any of us turn into his house. ^20:9But now this shall be the thing which we will do to Gibeah; we will go up by lot against it; ^20:10and we will take ten men of a hundred throughout all the tribes of Israel, and a hundred of a thousand, and a thousand out of ten thousand, to bring provision for the people, that they may do, when they come to Gibeah of Benjamin, according to all the foolishness that they have done in Israel.” ^20:11So all the men of Israel were gathered against the city, knit together as one man.

^20:12And the tribes of Israel sent men through all the tribe of Benjamin, saying, “What wickedness is this that is done among you? ^20:13Now therefore deliver us the men, the children of Belial, which are in Gibeah, that we may put them to death, and put away evil from Israel.” But the children of Benjamin would not listen to the voice of their brethren the children of Israel; ^20:14but the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together out of the cities to Gibeah, to go out to battle against the children of Israel. ^20:15And twenty-six thousand men that drew sword of the children of Benjamin were numbered at that time out of the cities, beside the inhabitants of Gibeah, which were numbered seven hundred chosen men. ^20:16Among all these people there were seven hundred chosen men left-handed: every one could sling stones at a hair breadth, and not miss. ^20:17And four hundred thousand men that drew a sword of the men of Israel, beside Benjamin, were numbered: all these were men of war.

^20:22And the people the men of Israel encouraged themselves, and set their battle again in array in the place where they put themselves in array the first day. ^20:23And the children of Israel went up and wept before Jehovah until evening; and asked counsel of Jehovah, saying, “Shall I go up again to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother?” And Jehovah said, “Go up against him.” ^20:24And the children of Israel came near against the children of Benjamin the second day. ^20:25And Benjamin went forth against them out of Gibeah the second day, and again destroyed down to the ground eighteen thousand men of the children of Israel; all these drew the sword.

^20:26Then all the children of Israel, and all the people, went up, and came to the House of God, and wept, and sat there before Jehovah, and fasted that day until evening, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Jehovah. ^20:27And the children of Israel inquired of Jehovah (for the Ark of the Covenant of God was there in those days, ^20:28and Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron, stood before it in those days), saying, “Shall I yet again go out to battle against the children of Benjamin my brother, or shall I cease?” And Jehovah said, “Go up: for tomorrow I will deliver them into your hand.” ^20:29Then Israel set liers in wait round about Gibeah. ^20:30And the children of Israel went up against the children of Benjamin on the third day, and put themselves in array against Gibeah, as at other times. ^20:31And the children of Benjamin went out against the people, and were drawn away from the city; and they began to smite of the people, and kill, as at other times, in the highways, of which one goes up to the House of God, and the other to Gibeah in the field, about thirty men of Israel. ^20:32And the children of Benjamin said, “They are smitten down before us, as at the first.” But the children of Israel said, “Let us flee, and draw them from the city to the highways.” ^20:33And all the men of Israel rose up out of their place, and put themselves in array at Baal-tamar; and the liers in wait of Israel came forth out of their places, even out of the meadows of Gibeah. ^20:34And there came against Gibeah ten thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and the battle was intense; but they did not know that evil was near them. ^20:35And Jehovah smote Benjamin before Israel; and the children of Israel destroyed of the Benjamites that day twenty- five thousand and one hundred men: all these drew the sword.

^20:36So the children of Benjamin saw that they were smitten: for the men of Israel gave place to the Benjamites, because they trusted to the liers in wait which they had set beside Gibeah. ^20:37And the liers in wait hurried, and rushed upon Gibeah; and the liers in wait drew themselves along, and smote all the city with the edge of the sword. ^20:38Now there was an appointed sign between the men of Israel and the liers in wait, that they should make a great flame with smoke rise up out of the city. ^20:39And when the men of Israel retired in the battle, Benjamin began to smite and kill of the men of Israel about thirty men: for they said, “Surely they are smitten down before us, as in the first battle.” ^20:40But when the flames began to arise up out of the city with a pillar of smoke, the Benjamites looked behind them; and, behold, the flames of the city ascended up to heaven. ^20:41And when the men of Israel turned back, the men of Benjamin were terrified: for they saw that evil had come upon them. ^20:42Therefore they turned their backs before the men of Israel to the way of the wilderness; but the battle overtook them; and them which came out of the cities they destroyed in the midst of them. ^20:43Thus they enclosed the Benjamites round about, and chased them, and trode them down with ease over before Gibeah toward the east. ^20:44And there fell of Benjamin eighteen thousand men; all these were men of valor. ^20:45And they turned and fled toward the wilderness to the rock of Rimmon; and they cut down of them in the highways another five thousand men; and pursued hard after them to Gidom, and slew another two thousand men of them. ^20:46So that all which fell that day of Benjamin were twenty-five thousand men that drew the sword; all these were men of valor.

^20:47But six hundred men turned and fled to the wilderness to the rock Rimmon, and remained in the rock Rimmon four months. ^20:48And the men of Israel turned back upon the children of Benjamin, and smote them with the edge of the sword, as well the men of every city, as the beast, and all that came to hand; also they set on fire all the cities that they came to.

^21:2And the people came to the House of God, and remained there until evening before God, and lifted up their voices, and wept much; ^21:3and they said, “O Jehovah God of Israel, why has this come to pass in Israel, that there should be one tribe lacking in Israel today?”

^21:4And it came to pass on the next day, that the people rose early, and built there an altar, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. ^21:5And the children of Israel said, “Who is there among all the tribes of Israel that did not come up with the congregation to Jehovah?” For they had made a great oath concerning him that did not come up to Jehovah to Mizpeh, saying, “He shall surely be put to death.” ^21:6And the children of Israel repented them for Benjamin their brother, and they said, “There is one tribe cut off from Israel this day. ^21:7What shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing we have sworn by Jehovah that we will not give them any of our daughters to be their wives?” ^21:8And they said, “What one is there of the tribes of Israel that did not come up to Mizpeh to Jehovah?” And behold, none from Jabesh-gilead came to the camp to the assembly: ^21:9for the people were numbered; and, behold, none of the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead were there. ^21:10And the congregation sent there twelve thousand men of the most valiant, and commanded them, saying, “Go and smite the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead with the edge of the sword, with the women and the children. ^21:11And this is the thing that you shall do: you shall utterly destroy every male, and every woman that has lain by man.” ^21:12And they found among the inhabitants of Jabesh-gilead four hundred young virgins, that had known no man by lying with any male; and they brought them to the camp to Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan. ^21:13And the whole congregation sent messengers to speak to the children of Benjamin that were in the rock Rimmon, and to call peacefully to them. ^21:14And Benjamin came again at that time; and they gave them wives which they had saved alive of the women of Jabesh-gilead. And yet they had not found enough for them.

^21:15And the people were grieved for Benjamin, because Jehovah had made a breach in the tribes of Israel. ^21:16Then the elders of the congregation said, “What shall we do for wives for them that remain, seeing the women are destroyed out of Benjamin?” ^21:17And they said, ”There must be an inheritance for them that have escaped of Benjamin, so that a tribe is not destroyed out of Israel. ^21:18Nevertheless we may not give them wives of our daughters: for the children of Israel have sworn, saying, ‘Cursed is he that gives a wife to Benjamin.’” ^21:19Then they said, “Behold, there is a feast of Jehovah in Shiloh yearly in a place which is on the north side of Bethel, on the east side of the highway that goes up from Bethel to Shechem, and on the south of Lebonah.” ^21:20Therefore they commanded the children of Benjamin, saying, “Go and lie in wait in the vineyards, ^21:21and see; and, behold, if the daughters of Shiloh come out to dance in dances, then you come out of the vineyards, and catch every man his wife of the daughters of Shiloh, and go to the land of Benjamin. ^21:22And it shall be, when their fathers or their brethren come to us to complain, that we will say to them, ‘Be favorable to them for our sakes, because we did not reserve to each man his wife in the war: for you did not give to them at this time, that you should be guilty.’” ^21:23And the children of Benjamin did so, and took themselves wives, according to their number, of them that danced, whom they caught; and they went and returned to their inheritance, and repaired the cities, and dwelt in them.

^21:24And the children of Israel departed from there at that time, every man to his tribe and to his family; and they went out from there every man to his inheritance. ^21:25In those days, there was no king in Israel: every man did what was right in his own eyes.

^17:1Hubo un hombre del monte de Efraín, que se llamaba Miqueas. ^17:2El cual dijo a su madre, “Los mil cien siclos de plata que te fueron hurtados, por lo que tú maldecías, y de los cuales me hablaste, he aquí que yo tengo este dinero; yo lo había tomado”. Entonces su madre dijo, “Bendito seas de Jehová, hijo mío”.

^17:3Y luego que él devolvió los mil cien siclos de plata a su madre, su madre dijo, “Yo ciertamente he dedicado de mi mano este dinero a Jehová por mi hijo, para hacer una imagen de talla y una de fundición; ahora pues, yo te lo devuelvo”.

^17:4Pero él devolvió el dinero a su madre; y su madre tomó doscientos siclos de plata, y los dio al fundidor; y él le hizo de ellos una imagen de talla y una de fundición, la cual fue puesta en casa de Miqueas.

^17:5Y este hombre Miqueas tenía una casa de dioses, e hizo un efod y terafim, y consagró a uno de sus hijos para que fuera su sacerdote.

^17:6En aquellos días no había rey en Israel; cada uno hacía como mejor le parecía.

¶Lo opuesto   Un joven sacerdote levita se unió a Miqueas como su sacerdote en su casa de ídolos (17:7 - 13)

^17:7Y había un joven de Belén de Judá, de la tribu de Judá, el cual era levita; y peregrinaba allí.

^17:8Este hombre partió de la ciudad de Belén de Judá, para ir a donde encontrase lugar; y llegando al monte de Efraín, vino a casa de Miqueas, para de allí hacer su camino.

^17:9Y Miqueas le dijo, “¿De dónde vienes?”. Y el levita le respondió, “Soy de Belén de Judá, y voy a vivir donde encuentre lugar”. ^17:10Entonces Miqueas le dijo, “Quédate en mi casa, y me serás en lugar de padre y sacerdote; y yo te daré diez siclos de plata por año, y vestidura, y tu comida”. Y el levita se quedó.

^17:11Acordó pues el levita en morar con aquel hombre, y él lo tenía como a uno de sus hijos. ^17:12Y Miqueas consagró al levita, y aquel joven le servía de sacerdote, y estaba en casa de Miqueas.

^17:13Y Miqueas dijo, “Ahora sé que Jehová me hará bien: porque tengo un levita por sacerdote”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Los crímenes sexuales de la ciudad de Gabaa llevaron a las otras tribus a hacer la guerra contra la tribu de Benjamín (18:1 - 20:17)

¶Lo opuesto   El sacerdote de Micah alentó a los espías de Dan a continuar su viaje (18:1 - 10)

^18:1En aquellos días no había rey en Israel. Y en aquellos días la tribu de Dan buscaba posesión para sí donde morase: porque hasta entonces no le había caído suerte entre las tribus de Israel por heredad. ^18:2Y los hijos de Dan enviaron de su tribu cinco hombres de sus términos, hombres valientes, de Zora y Estaol, para que reconociesen y explorasen bien la tierra; y les dijeron, “Id y reconoced la tierra”. Éstos vinieron al monte de Efraín, hasta la casa de Miqueas, y allí posaron.

^18:3Y cuando estaban cerca de la casa de Miqueas, reconocieron la voz del joven levita; y llegándose allá, le dijeron, “¿Quién te ha traído por acá? ¿Y qué haces aquí? ¿Y qué tienes tú por aquí?”. ^18:4Y él les respondió, “De esta y de esta manera ha hecho conmigo Miqueas, y me ha tomado para que sea su sacerdote”.

^18:5Y le dijeron, “Pregunta pues, ahora a Dios, para que sepamos si este viaje que hacemos será próspero”. ^18:6Y el sacerdote les respondió, “Id en paz, que vuestro viaje que hacéis es delante de Jehová”.

^18:7Entonces aquellos cinco hombres partieron, y vinieron a Lais; y vieron que el pueblo que habitaba en ella estaba seguro, ocioso y confiado, conforme a la costumbre de los sidonios; sin que nadie en aquella región los humillase en cosa alguna; y estaban lejos de los sidonios, y no tenían negocios con nadie.

^18:8Volviendo pues, ellos a sus hermanos en Zora y Estaol, sus hermanos les dijeron, “¿Qué hay?”. ^18:9Y respondieron, “Levantaos, subamos contra ellos: porque nosotros hemos explorado la región, y hemos visto que es muy buena. ¿Y ustedes os quedáis quietos? No seáis perezosos en poneros en marcha para ir a poseer la tierra. ^18:10Cuando allá llegareis, vendréis a una gente confiada, y a una tierra muy espaciosa; pues Dios la ha entregado en vuestras manos; lugar donde no hay falta de cosa alguna que haya en la tierra”.

¶Lo opuesto   Los soldados de Dan tomó al sacerdote y los ídolos de Miqueas con ellos por la fuerza (18:11 - 31)

^18:11Y partiendo los de Dan de allí, de Zora y de Estaol, seiscientos hombres armados con armas de guerra, ^18:12subieron y acamparon en Quiriat-jearim, en Judá; por lo cual llamaron a aquel lugar el campamento de Dan, hasta hoy; he aquí, está detrás de Quiriat-jearim.

^18:13Y pasando de allí al monte de Efraín, vinieron hasta la casa de Miqueas. ^18:14Entonces aquellos cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra de Lais, dijeron a sus hermanos, “¿No sabéis como en estas casas hay efod y terafim, e imagen de talla y de fundición? Mirad pues, lo que habéis de hacer”.

^18:15Y llegándose allá, vinieron a la casa del joven levita en casa de Miqueas, y le preguntaron cómo estaba. ^18:16Y los seiscientos hombres, que eran de los hijos de Dan, estaban armados con sus armas de guerra a la entrada de la puerta. ^18:17Y subiendo los cinco hombres que habían ido a reconocer la tierra, entraron allá, y tomaron la imagen de talla, y el efod, y el terafim, y la imagen de fundición, mientras estaba el sacerdote a la entrada de la puerta con los seiscientos hombres armados con armas de guerra. ^18:18Entrando pues, aquellos en la casa de Miqueas, tomaron la imagen de talla, el efod, y el terafim, y la imagen de fundición. Y el sacerdote les dijo, “¿Qué hacéis ustedes?”. ^18:19Y le respondieron, “Calla, pon la mano sobre tu boca, y vente con nosotros, para que seas nuestro padre y sacerdote. ¿Es mejor que seas tú sacerdote en casa de un solo hombre, que de una tribu y familia de Israel?”. ^18:20Y se alegró el corazón del sacerdote; el cual tomando el efod y el terafim, y la imagen, se vino entre el pueblo. ^18:21Y tornaron y se fueron; y pusieron los niños, y el ganado y el bagaje, delante de sí.

^18:22Y cuando ya se habían alejado de la casa de Miqueas, los hombres que habitaban en las casas cercanas a la casa de Miqueas, se juntaron, y siguieron a los hijos de Dan. ^18:23Y dando voces a los de Dan, éstos volvieron sus rostros, y dijeron a Miqueas, “¿Qué tienes que has juntado gente?”. ^18:24Y él respondió, “Habéis llevado mis dioses que yo hice, y al sacerdote, y os fuisteis. ¿Qué más me queda? ¿Y a qué propósito me decís, ‘Qué tienes?’” ^18:25Y los hijos de Dan le dijeron, “No des voces tras nosotros, no sea que los de ánimo colérico os acometan, y pierdas también tu vida, y la vida de los tuyos”. ^18:26Y yéndose los hijos de Dan su camino, y viendo Miqueas que eran más fuertes que él, se volvió y regresó a su casa.

^18:27Y ellos llevando las cosas que había hecho Miqueas, juntamente con el sacerdote que tenía, llegaron a Lais, al pueblo reposado y seguro; y los hirieron a filo de espada, y prendieron fuego a la ciudad. ^18:28Y no hubo quien los defendiese: porque estaban lejos de Sidón, y no tenían comercio con nadie. Y la ciudad estaba en el valle que hay en Bet-rehob. Luego reedificaron la ciudad, y habitaron en ella; ^18:29y llamaron el nombre de aquella ciudad Dan, conforme al nombre de Dan su padre, hijo de Israel, bien que antes se llamaba la ciudad Lais. ^18:30Y los hijos de Dan levantaron la imagen de talla; y Jonatán, hijo de Gersón, hijo de Manasés, él y sus hijos fueron sacerdotes en la tribu de Dan, hasta el día del cautiverio de la tierra. ^18:31Y se levantaron la imagen de Miqueas, la cual él había hecho, todo el tiempo que la Casa de Dios estuvo en Silo.

¶El complemento   Un levita viajó a Benjamín para traer a su concubina a casa, y su padre demoró su partida por varios días (19:1 - 9)

^19:1Y aconteció en aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, que hubo un levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Efraín, el cual había tomado para sí a una concubina de Belén de Judá. ^19:2Y su concubina cometió adulterio contra él, y se fue de él a casa de su padre, a Belén de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses.

^19:3Y se levantó su marido, y la siguió, para hablarle amorosamente y hacerla volver, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le metió en la casa de su padre. Y viéndole el padre de la joven, le salió a recibir gozoso; ^19:4y le detuvo su suegro, padre de la joven, y quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y reposando allí.

^19:5Y aconteció al cuarto día, cuando se levantaron de mañana, que se levantó también el levita para irse, y el padre de la joven dijo a su yerno, “Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis”. ^19:6Y se sentaron ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la joven dijo al varón, “Te ruego que quieras pasar aquí la noche, y se alegrará tu corazón”. ^19:7Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó a que tornase y pasase allí la noche.

^19:8Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, le dijo el padre de la joven, “Te ruego que confortes ahora tu corazón”. Y se detuvieron hasta que ya declinaba el día, y comieron ambos juntos.

^19:9Se levantó luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la joven, le dijo, “He aquí el día declina para ponerse el sol, te ruego que pases aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, duerme aquí, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano a vuestro camino, y te irás a tu casa”.

^19:10Pero el hombre no quiso pasar allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebús, que es Jerusalén, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina. ^19:11Y estando ya junto a Jebús, el día había declinado mucho; y dijo el criado a su señor, “Ven ahora, y vámonos a esta ciudad de los jebuseos, para que pasemos en ella la noche”. ^19:12Y su señor le respondió, “No iremos a ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel; antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa”. ^19:13Y dijo a su criado, “Ven, lleguemos a uno de esos lugares, para pasar la noche en Gabaa, o en Ramá”. ^19:14Pasando pues, caminaron, y se les puso el sol junto a Gabaa, que pertenece a Benjamín. ^19:15Y se apartaron del camino para entrar a pasar allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, se sentaron en la plaza de la ciudad: porque no hubo quien los recibiese en casa para pasar la noche.

^19:16Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que a la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era del monte de Efraín, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín. ^19:17Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vio a aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y le dijo, “¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?”. ^19:18Y él respondió, “Pasamos de Belén de Judá a los lados del monte de Efraín, de donde soy; y partí hasta Belén de Judá; pero ahora voy a la Casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en casa, ^19:19aunque nosotros tenemos paja y de comer para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; no nos hace falta nada”.

^19:20Y el hombre viejo dijo, “Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente a mi cargo, con tal que no pases la noche en la plaza”. ^19:21Y metiéndolos en su casa, dio de comer a sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

^19:22Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres hijos de Belial, rodearon la casa, golpeando las puertas, y diciendo al hombre viejo dueño de la casa, “¡Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos!”. ^19:23Y saliendo a ellos aquel varón, amo de la casa, les dijo, “No, hermanos míos, os ruego que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad. ^19:24He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él; yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, y no hagáis a este hombre cosa tan infame”.

^19:25Pero aquellos hombres no le quisieron oír; por lo que aquel hombre tomó a su concubina y la trajo a ellos; y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y la dejaron cuando apuntaba el alba.

¶Único   El levita denunció los crímenes a las otras tribus, que se unieron para hacer la guerra contra Gabaa (19:26 - 20:17)

^19:26Y cuando ya amanecía, vino la mujer y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que se hizo de día. ^19:27Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa, y salió para seguir su camino, y he aquí, la mujer su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral. ^19:28Y él le dijo, “Levántate, y vámonos”. Pero ella no respondió.

Entonces la levantó el varón, y echándola sobre su asno, se levantó y se fue a su lugar. ^19:29Y llegando a su casa, tomó un cuchillo, y echó mano de su concubina, y la partió por sus huesos en doce pedazos, y los envió por todos los términos de Israel. ^19:30Y todo el que lo veía, decía, “Jamás se ha hecho ni visto cosa semejante, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad”.

^20:1Entonces salieron todos los hijos de Israel, y se reunió la congregación como un solo hombre, desde Dan hasta Beerseba y la tierra de Galaad, a Jehová en Mizpa. ^20:2Y los principales de todo el pueblo, de todas las tribus de Israel, se hallaron presentes en la reunión del pueblo de Dios, cuatrocientos mil hombres de a pie que sacaban espada. ^20:3(Y los hijos de Benjamín oyeron que los hijos de Israel habían subido a Mizpa.) Entonces dijeron los hijos de Israel, ‘Cuéntanos, ¿cómo fue esta maldad?”. ^20:4Entonces el varón levita, marido de la mujer muerta, respondió y dijo, “Yo llegué a Gabaa de Benjamín con mi concubina, para pasar allí la noche. ^20:5Y levantándose contra mí los de Gabaa, rodearon sobre mí la casa por la noche, con idea de matarme, y amancillaron a mi concubina tanto que ella murió. ^20:6Entonces tomando yo mi concubina, la corté en pedazos, y los envié por todo el término de la posesión de Israel: por cuanto han hecho maldad y crimen en Israel. ^20:7He aquí todos ustedes sois hijos de Israel; dad aquí vuestro parecer y consejo”.

^20:8Y todo el pueblo, como un solo hombre, se levantó, y dijeron, “Ninguno de nosotros irá a su tienda, ni ninguno de nosotros volverá a su casa. ^20:9Esto es lo que haremos ahora a Gabaa; contra ella subiremos por sorteo. ^20:10Tomaremos diez hombres de cada cien por todas las tribus de Israel, y cien de cada mil, y mil de cada diez mil, que lleven provisiones para el pueblo, para que yendo contra Gabaa de Benjamín, le hagan conforme a toda la abominación que ha cometido en Israel”. ^20:11Y se juntaron todos los hombres de Israel contra la ciudad, ligados como un solo hombre.

^20:12Y las tribus de Israel enviaron varones por toda la tribu de Benjamín, diciendo, “¿Qué maldad es ésta que ha sido hecha entre ustedes? ^20:13Entregad, pues, ahora aquellos hombres, hijos de Belial, que están en Gabaa, para que los matemos, y barramos el mal de Israel”. Pero los de Benjamín no quisieron oír la voz de sus hermanos los hijos de Israel. ^20:14Antes los de Benjamín se juntaron de las ciudades de Gabaa, para salir a pelear contra los hijos de Israel. ^20:15Y fueron contados en aquel tiempo los hijos de Benjamín de las ciudades, veintiséis mil hombres que sacaban espada, sin los que moraban en Gabaa, que fueron por cuenta setecientos hombres escogidos. ^20:16De toda aquella gente había setecientos hombres escogidos, que eran zurdos, todos los cuales tiraban una piedra con la honda a un cabello, y no erraban. ^20:17Y fueron contados los varones de Israel, fuera de Benjamín, cuatrocientos mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos estos eran hombres de guerra.

^20:18Se levantaron luego los hijos de Israel, y subieron a la casa de Dios, y consultaron a Dios, diciendo, “¿Quién de nosotros subirá primero a la guerra contra los hijos de Benjamín?”. Y Jehová respondió, “Judá subirá primero”. ^20:19Levantándose, pues, de mañana los hijos de Israel, acamparon contra Gabaa. ^20:20Y salieron los hijos de Israel a combatir contra Benjamín; y los varones de Israel ordenaron la batalla contra ellos junto a Gabaa. ^20:21Saliendo entonces de Gabaa los hijos de Benjamín, derribaron en tierra aquel día veintidós mil hombres de los hijos de Israel.

^20:22Pero reanimándose el pueblo, los varones de Israel tornaron a ordenar la batalla en el mismo lugar donde la habían ordenado el primer día. ^20:23Porque los hijos de Israel subieron, y lloraron delante de Jehová hasta la tarde, y consultaron a Jehová, diciendo, “¿Tornaré a pelear con los hijos de Benjamín mi hermano?”. Y Jehová les respondió, “Subid contra él”. ^20:24Los hijos pues de Israel se acercaron el siguiente día a los hijos de Benjamín. ^20:25Y aquel segundo día, saliendo Benjamín de Gabaa contra ellos, derribaron por tierra otros dieciocho mil hombres de los hijos de Israel, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

^20:26Entonces subieron todos los hijos de Israel, y todo el pueblo, y vinieron a la casa de Dios; y lloraron, y se sentaron allí delante de Jehová, y ayunaron aquel día hasta la tarde; y sacrificaron holocaustos y pacíficos delante de Jehová. ^20:27Y los hijos de Israel preguntaron a Jehová (porque el arca del pacto de Dios estaba allí en aquellos días, ^20:28y Finees, hijo de Eleazar, hijo de Aarón, ministraba delante de ella en aquellos días), y dijeron, “¿Volveré aún a salir en batalla contra los hijos de Benjamín mi hermano, o me quedaré quieto?”. Y Jehová dijo, “Subid, que mañana yo lo entregaré en tu mano”. ^20:29Y puso Israel emboscadas alrededor de Gabaa. ^20:30Subiendo entonces los hijos de Israel contra los hijos de Benjamín el tercer día, ordenaron la batalla delante de Gabaa, como las otras veces. ^20:31Y saliendo los hijos de Benjamín contra el pueblo, alejados que fueron de la ciudad, comenzaron a herir a algunos del pueblo, matando como las otras veces por los caminos, uno de los cuales sube a Betel, y el otro a Gabaa en el campo; y mataron unos treinta hombres de Israel. ^20:32Y los hijos de Benjamín decían, “Vencidos son delante de nosotros, como antes”. Pero los hijos de Israel decían, “Huiremos, y los alejaremos de la ciudad hasta los caminos”. ^20:33Entonces, levantándose todos los de Israel de su lugar, se pusieron en orden en Baal-tamar; y también las emboscadas de Israel salieron de su lugar, del prado de Gabaa. ^20:34Y vinieron contra Gabaa diez mil hombres escogidos de todo Israel, y la batalla comenzó a agravarse; pero ellos no sabían que el mal se acercaba sobre ellos. ^20:35E hirió Jehová a Benjamín delante de Israel; y mataron los hijos de Israel aquel día veinticinco mil cien hombres de Benjamín, todos los cuales sacaban espada.

^20:36Y los hijos de Benjamín vieron que fueron derrotados: pues los hijos de Israel habían dado lugar a Benjamín: porque estaban confiados en las emboscadas que habían puesto detrás de Gabaa. ^20:37Entonces los hombres de las emboscadas acometieron prontamente a Gabaa, y se extendieron, e hirieron a filo de espada a toda la ciudad. ^20:38Ahora había una señal designada entre los hombres de Israel y en los emboscadores, que ellos harían una gran llama con humo subir fuera de la ciudad. ^20:39Luego, pues, que los de Israel se volvieron en la batalla, los de Benjamín comenzaron a derribar heridos de Israel unos treinta hombres, y ya decían, “Ciertamente ellos han caído delante de nosotros, como en la primera batalla”. ^20:40Pero cuando la llama comenzó a subir de la ciudad, una columna de humo, los benjamitas miraron hacia atrás; y he aquí que el fuego de la ciudad subía al cielo. ^20:41Entonces revolvieron los hombres de Israel, y los de Benjamín se llenaron de temor: porque vieron que el mal había venido sobre ellos. ^20:42Volvieron, por tanto, la espalda delante de Israel hacia el camino del desierto; pero el escuadrón los alcanzó, y los que salían de las ciudades los destruían en medio de ellos. ^20:43Así envolvieron a los de Benjamín, y los persiguieron y fácilmente los aplastaron enfrente de Gabaa, hacia donde nace el sol. ^20:44Y cayeron de Benjamín dieciocho mil hombres, todos ellos hombres de guerra. ^20:45Volviéndose luego, huyeron hacia el desierto, a la peña de Rimón, y de ellos recogieron cinco mil hombres en los caminos; y fueron persiguiéndolos aun hasta Gidom, y mataron de ellos dos mil hombres. ^20:46Así todos los que de Benjamín murieron aquel día, fueron veinticinco mil hombres que sacaban espada, todos estos eran hombres de valor.

^20:47Pero se volvieron y huyeron al desierto a la peña de Rimón seiscientos hombres, los cuales estuvieron en la peña de Rimón cuatro meses. ^20:48Y los hombres de Israel tornaron a los hijos de Benjamín, y los hirieron a filo de espada, así a los hombres de cada ciudad como a las bestias y todo lo que encontraron; también pusieron fuego a todas las ciudades que hallaron.

^21:1Y los varones de Israel habían jurado en Mizpa, diciendo, “Ninguno de nosotros dará su hija a los de Benjamín por esposa”.

^21:2Y vino el pueblo a la casa de Dios, y se estuvieron allí hasta la tarde delante de Dios; y alzando su voz hicieron gran llanto, y dijeron, ^21:3“Oh Jehová Dios de Israel, ¿por qué ha sucedido esto en Israel, que falte hoy de Israel una tribu?”.

^21:4Y aconteció que al día siguiente el pueblo se levantó de mañana, y edificaron allí un altar y ofrecieron holocaustos y ofrendas de paz. ^21:5Y dijeron los hijos de Israel, “¿Quién de todas las tribus de Israel no subió a la reunión cerca de Jehová?”. Porque se había hecho gran juramento contra el que no subiese a Jehová en Mizpa, diciendo, “Sufrirá muerte”. ^21:6Y los hijos de Israel se arrepintieron a causa de Benjamín su hermano, y dijeron, “Una tribu es hoy cortada de Israel. ^21:7¿Qué haremos en cuanto a esposas para los que han quedado? Nosotros hemos jurado por Jehová que no les hemos de dar nuestras hijas por esposas”. ^21:8Y dijeron, “¿Hay alguno de las tribus de Israel que no haya subido a Jehová en Mizpa?”. Y hallaron que ninguno de Jabes-galaad había venido al campamento, a la reunión: ^21:9porque el pueblo fue contado, y no hubo allí varón de los moradores de Jabes-galaad. ^21:10Entonces la congregación envió allá doce mil hombres de los más valientes, y les mandaron, diciendo, “Id y herid a filo de espada a los moradores de Jabes-galaad, y las mujeres y niños. ^21:11Pero haréis de esta manera; mataréis a todo varón, y a toda mujer que hubiere conocido ayuntamiento de varón”. ^21:12Y hallaron de los moradores de Jabes-galaad cuatrocientas doncellas que no habían conocido hombre en ayuntamiento de varón, y las trajeron al campamento en Silo, que está en la tierra de Canaán. ^21:13Toda la congregación envió luego a hablar a los hijos de Benjamín que estaban en la peña de Rimón, y los llamaron en paz. ^21:14Y volvieron entonces los de Benjamín; y les dieron por esposas las que habían guardado vivas de las mujeres de Jabes-galaad; pero no les bastaron éstas.

^21:15Y el pueblo tuvo dolor a causa de Benjamín, de que Jehová hubiese hecho mella en las tribus de Israel. ^21:16Entonces los ancianos de la congregación dijeron, “¿Qué haremos acerca de esposas para los que han quedado? Porque han sido muertas las mujeres de Benjamín”. ^21:17Y dijeron, “Que haya herencia para los que han escapado de Benjamín, y no sea exterminada una tribu de Israel. ^21:18Pero nosotros no les podemos dar esposas de nuestras hijas: porque los hijos de Israel han jurado, diciendo, ‘Maldito el que diere esposa a los de Benjamín’”. ^21:19Y dijeron, “He aquí cada año hay fiesta de Jehová en Silo, que está al norte de Betel, y al lado oriental del camino que sube de Betel a Siquem, y al sur de Lebona”. ^21:20Y mandaron a los hijos de Benjamín, diciendo, “Id, y poned emboscada en las viñas, ^21:21y estad atentos; y he aquí, si las hijas de Silo salieren a bailar en corros, ustedes saldréis de las viñas, y arrebataréis cada uno esposa para sí de las hijas de Silo, y os iréis a tierra de Benjamín. ^21:22Y será que cuando sus padres o sus hermanos vinieren a quejarse ante nosotros, nosotros les diremos, ‘Tened piedad de ellos por causa de nosotros; pues que nosotros en la guerra no tomamos esposas para todos; que ustedes no se las habéis dado, para que ahora seáis culpables’”. ^21:23Y los hijos de Benjamín lo hicieron así; pues tomaron esposas conforme a su número, pillando de las que danzaban; y yéndose luego, se regresaron a su heredad, y reedificaron las ciudades, y habitaron en ellas.

^21:24Entonces los hijos de Israel se fueron también de allí, cada uno a su tribu y a su familia, saliendo de allí cada uno a su heredad. ^21:25En estos días no había rey en Israel; cada uno hacía lo que le parecía recto ante sus propios ojos.
