Jeremiah, Chapter 2.1: Jehovah will restore the Kingdom of David after the Babylonian captivity and during the Millennium (30:1 - 33:26)

Introduction: In the future, Jehovah will restore the people of Israel to their land, where they will endure the Great Tribulation (30:1 - 31:9)

^30:4And these are the words that Jehovah spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah: ^30:5“For thus says Jehovah: ‘We have heard a voice of trembling, of fear, and not of peace. ^30:6Ask now, and see whether a man can travail with child? Why do I see every man with his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail, and all faces are turned into paleness?

^30:7“‘Alas! For that Day is great, so that none is like it. It is even the Time of Jacob's trouble; but he shall be delivered out of it: ^30:8for it shall come to pass in that day,’ says Jehovah of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off your neck, and will burst your bonds, and strangers shall no longer serve themselves of him; ^30:9but they shall serve Jehovah their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.’”

^30:10“‘Therefore fear not, O my servant Jacob,’ says Jehovah; ‘neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, lo, I will deliver you from afar, and your seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall return, and shall be in rest, and be quiet; and no one shall make him afraid: ^30:11for I am with you,’ says Jehovah, ‘to deliver you. Though I make a full end of all nations where I have scattered you, yet will I not make a full end of you; but I will correct you in measure, and will not leave you altogether unpunished.’

^30:12“For thus says Jehovah: ‘Your bruise is incurable, and your wound is grievous. ^30:13There is no one to plead your cause, that you may be bound up; you have no healing medicines. ^30:14All your lovers have forgotten you; they do not seek you: for I have wounded you with the wound of an enemy, with the chastisement of a cruel one, for the multitude of your iniquity, because your sins were increased. ^30:15Why do you cry for your affliction? Your sorrow is incurable for the multitude of your iniquity. Because your sins were increased, I have done these things to you. ^30:16Therefore all they that devour you shall be devoured; and all your adversaries, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and they that plunder you shall be a plunder, and all that prey upon you will I give for a prey: ^30:17for I will restore health to you; and I will heal you of your wounds,’ says Jehovah; ‘because they called you an outcast, saying, ‘This is Zion, whom no man seeks after.’’”

¶Opposite   Jehovah will restore the people of Israel to their land from the north country and from the ends of the Earth (30:18 - 31:9)

^30:18“Thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will bring again the captivity of Jacob's tents, and have mercy on his dwelling places; and the city shall be built upon her own heap, and the palace shall remain after its manner. ^30:19And out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of them that make merry; and I will multiply them, and they shall not be few; I will also glorify them, and they shall not be small. ^30:20Their children also shall be as before, and their congregation shall be established before me, and I will punish all that oppress them. ^30:21And their nobles shall be of themselves, and their governor shall proceed from their midst; and I will cause him to draw near, and he shall approach to me: for who is this that engaged his heart to approach to me?’ says Jehovah. ^30:22‘And you shall be my people; and I will be your God.

^30:23“‘Behold, the whirlwind of Jehovah goes forth with fury, a sweeping whirlwind; it shall fall with pain upon the head of the wicked. ^30:24The fierce anger of Jehovah shall not return, until he has done it, and until he has performed the intents of his heart; in the Latter Days you shall consider it.’”

^31:1“‘At the same time,’ says Jehovah, ‘will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.’

^31:2“Thus says Jehovah: ‘The people who were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.’”

^31:3Jehovah has appeared from afar to me, saying, “Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; therefore with loving-kindness have I drawn you. ^31:4Again will I build you, and you shall be built, O virgin of Israel; again you shall be adorned with your tabrets, and shall go forth in the dances of them that make merry. ^31:5You shall yet plant vines upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall eat grapes as common things: ^31:6for there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the mount Ephraim shall cry, ‘Arise, and let us go up to Zion to Jehovah our God!’ ^31:7For thus says Jehovah: ‘Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout among the chief of the nations; publish, praise, and say, ‘O Jehovah, save your people, the remnant of Israel!’ ^31:8Behold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the ends of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travails with child together; a great company shall return there. ^31:9They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them; I will cause them to walk by the rivers of water in a straight way, in which they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my firstborn.’”

^31:12“‘Therefore they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow together to the goodness of Jehovah: for wheat, for wine, for oil, and for the young of the flock and of the herd; and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow anymore at all.

^31:13“‘Then shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, both young men and old together: for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow. ^31:14And I will fill the soul of the priests with abundance; and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness,’ says Jehovah.”

^31:15“Thus says Jehovah: ‘A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping: Rachel, weeping for her children, refused to be comforted for her children, because they were not.’ ^31:16Thus says Jehovah: ‘Refrain your voice from weeping, and your eyes from tears: for your work shall be rewarded,’ says Jehovah; ‘and they shall return from the land of the enemy. ^31:17And there is hope in your end,’ says Jehovah, ‘that your children shall come again to their own border.

^31:18“‘I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself, saying, ‘You have chastised me, and I was chastised, as a bull unaccustomed to the yoke. Turn me, and I shall be turned: for you are Jehovah my God. ^31:19Surely after that I was turned, I repented. And after I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh. I was ashamed; yea, even wounded, because I bore the reproach of my youth.’ ^31:20Is Ephraim my dear son? Is he a pleasant child? For since I spoke against him, I do earnestly remember him still; therefore my bowels are troubled for him; I will surely have mercy upon him,’ says Jehovah. ^31:21‘Set up signposts; make high heaps; set your heart toward the highway, even the way which you went. Turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these your cities. ^31:22How long will you go about, O you backsliding daughter? For Jehovah has created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall encompass a man.’ ^31:23Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘As yet they shall use this speech in the land of Judah and in its cities, when I shall bring again their captivity, ‘Jehovah bless you, O habitation of justice, and mountain of holiness.’ ^31:24And there shall dwell in Judah itself, and in all its cities together, farmers, and they that go forth with flocks: ^31:25for I have satisfied the weary soul, and I have replenished every sorrowful soul.’” ^31:26Upon this I awoke, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet to me.

^31:27“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast. ^31:28And it shall come to pass, that just as I have watched over them to pluck up, to break down, to throw down, to destroy, and to afflict, so will I watch over them to build and to plant,’ says Jehovah. ^31:29‘In those days they shall no longer say, ‘The fathers have eaten a sour grape, and the children's teeth are set on edge.’ ^31:30But everyone shall die for his own iniquity; every man that eats the sour grape, his teeth shall be set on edge.

^31:31“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that I will make a New Covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah; ^31:32not according to the Covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, which my Covenant they broke, although I was a husband to them,’ says Jehovah. ^31:33‘But this shall be the Covenant that I will make with the house of Israel: after those days,’ says Jehovah, ‘I will put my Law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. ^31:34And they shall no longer teach every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, ‘Know Jehovah’: for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest of them,’ says Jehovah; ‘for I will forgive their iniquity, and I will remember their sin no more.’”

^31:35“Thus says Jehovah, who gives the sun for a light by day, and the Ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who rebukes the sea when its waves roar (Jehovah of hosts is his Name): ^31:36‘If those Ordinances depart from before me,’ says Jehovah, ‘then shall the seed of Israel also cease from being a nation before me forever.’

^31:37“Thus says Jehovah: ‘If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done,’ says Jehovah.

^31:38“Behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that the city shall be built to Jehovah from the tower of Hananeel to the gate of the corner. ^31:39And the measuring line shall yet go forth over against it upon the hill Gareb, and shall circle around to Goath. ^31:40And the whole valley of the dead bodies, and of the ashes, and all the fields to the brook of Kidron, to the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy to Jehovah; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down anymore forever.’”

¶Complement   Jeremiah obeyed the will of Jehovah to buy the field of his cousin in Anathoth (32:1 - 15)

^32:1The Word that came to Jeremiah from Jehovah in the tenth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, which was the eighteenth year of Nebuchadrezzar: ^32:2for then the king of Babylon's army besieged Jerusalem; and Jeremiah the Prophet was shut up in the court of the prison, which was in the king of Judah's house: ^32:3for Zedekiah king of Judah had shut him up, saying, “Why do you prophesy, and say, ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall take it; ^32:4and Zedekiah king of Judah shall not escape out of the hand of the Chaldeans, but shall surely be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon; and he shall speak with him mouth to mouth, and his eyes shall behold his eyes; ^32:5and he shall lead Zedekiah to Babylon, and there shall he be until I visit him,’ says Jehovah. ‘Though you fight with the Chaldeans, you shall not prosper’’?”

^32:6And Jeremiah said, “The Word of Jehovah came to me, saying, ^32:7‘Behold, Hanameel the son of Shallum your uncle shall come to you, saying, ‘Buy my field that is in Anathoth, because the right of redemption is yours to buy it.’’”

^32:8So Hanameel my uncle's son came to me in the court of the prison according to the Word of Jehovah, and said to me, “Please, buy my field that is in Anathoth, which is in the country of Benjamin, because the right of inheritance is yours, and the redemption is yours. Buy it for yourself.”

Then I knew that this was the Word of Jehovah. ^32:9And I bought the field of Hanameel my uncle's son, that was in Anathoth, and weighed him the money, even seventeen shekels of silver. ^32:10And I wrote the deed, and sealed it, and took witnesses, and weighed him the money in the balances. ^32:11So I took the deed of the purchase, both that which was sealed according to the Law and custom, and that which was open; ^32:12and I gave the deed of the purchase to Baruch the son of Neriah, the son of Maaseiah, in the sight of Hanameel my uncle's son, and in the presence of the witnesses that signed the deed of the purchase, before all the Jews that sat in the court of the prison.

^32:13And I charged Baruch before them, saying, ^32:14“Thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Take these deeds, this deed of the purchase, both which is sealed, and this deed which is open; and put them in an earthen vessel, that they may continue many days.’ ^32:15For thus says Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: ‘Houses and fields and vineyards shall again be possessed in this land.’”

^32:19“You are great in counsel, and mighty in work: for your eyes are open upon all the ways of the sons of men, to give every one according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings; ^32:20who has set signs and wonders in the land of Egypt, even until this day, and in Israel, and among other men; and have made yourself a Name, as at this day; ^32:21and have brought forth your people Israel out of the land of Egypt with signs, with wonders, with a strong hand, with a stretched out arm, and with great terror; ^32:22and have given them this land, which you swore to their fathers to give them, a land flowing with milk and honey.

^32:23“And they came in, and possessed it; but they did not obey your voice; neither walked in your Law. They have done nothing of all that you commanded them to do; therefore you have caused all this evil to come upon them.”

^32:24“Behold the siege mounds; they have come to the city to take it; and the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans, that fight against it, because of the sword, famine, and disease; and what you have spoken has come to pass; and, behold, you see it.

^32:25“And now have you truly said to me, O Lord Jehovah: ‘Buy the field for money, and take witnesses: for the city is given into the hand of the Chaldeans’?”

^32:26Then the Word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ^32:27“Behold, I am Jehovah, the God of all flesh. Is anything too hard for me?

^32:28“Therefore thus says Jehovah: ‘Behold, I will give this city into the hand of the Chaldeans, and into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and he shall take it; ^32:29and the Chaldeans, that fight against this city, shall come and set fire to this city, and burn it along with the houses, upon whose roofs they have offered incense to Baal, and poured out drink offerings to other gods, to provoke me to anger: ^32:30for the children of Israel and the children of Judah have only done evil before me from their youth: for the children of Israel have only provoked me to anger with the work of their hands,’ says Jehovah. ^32:31‘For this city has been to me a provocation of my anger and my fury from the day that they built it even until this day, that I should remove it from before my face, ^32:32because of all the evil of the children of Israel and of the children of Judah, which they have done to provoke me to anger: they, their kings, their princes, their priests, their prophets, and the men of Judah, and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. ^32:33And they have turned the back to me, and not the face; although I taught them, rising up early and teaching them, yet they have not listened to receive instruction. ^32:34But they set their abominations in the House which is called by my Name, to defile it. ^32:35And they built the high places of Baal, which are in the valley of the son of Hinnom, to cause their sons and their daughters to pass through the fire to Molech, which I did not command them; neither came it into my mind, that they should do this abomination, to cause Judah to sin.’”

^32:36“And now therefore thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning this city, of which you say, ‘It shall be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon by the sword, by famine, and by disease’: ^32:37‘Behold, I will gather them out of all countries, where I have driven them in my anger, in my fury, and in great wrath; and I will bring them again to this place, and I will cause them to dwell safely; ^32:38and they shall be my people, and I will be their God; ^32:39and I will give them one heart, and one Way, that they may fear me forever, for the good of them, and of their children after them. ^32:40And I will make an everlasting Covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, so that they will not depart from me.

^32:41“‘Moreover, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land permanently with my whole heart and with my whole soul.’

^32:42“For thus says Jehovah: ‘Like as I have brought all this great evil upon this people, so will I bring upon them all the good that I have promised them. ^32:43And fields shall be bought in this land, whereof you say, ‘It is desolate without man or beast; it is given into the hand of the Chaldeans.’ ^32:44Men shall buy fields for money, and write deeds, and seal them, and take witnesses in the land of Benjamin, and in the places about Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, and in the cities of the mountains, and in the cities of the valley, and in the cities of the south: for I will cause their captivity to return,’ says Jehovah.”

^33:4“For thus says Jehovah, the God of Israel, concerning the houses of this city, and concerning the houses of the kings of Judah, which are thrown down by the mounts, and by the sword ^33:5(they come to fight with the Chaldeans, but it only serves to fill them with the dead bodies of men, whom I have slain in my anger and in my fury, and for all whose wickedness I have hidden my face from this city): ^33:6‘Behold, I will bring it health and cure, and I will cure them, and will reveal to them the abundance of peace and truth. ^33:7And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first. ^33:8And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me. ^33:9And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honor before all the nations of the earth, who shall hear all the good that I do to them; and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.’”

^33:10“Thus says Jehovah: ‘Again there shall be heard in this place (which you say shall be desolate without man and without beast, even in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem, that are desolate, without man, and without inhabitant, and without beast) ^33:11the voice of joy, the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom, the voice of the bride, and the voice of them that shall say, ‘Praise Jehovah of hosts! For Jehovah is good: for his mercy endures forever’: of them that shall bring the sacrifice of praise into the House of Jehovah: for I will cause the captivity of the land to return, as at the first,’ says Jehovah.

^33:12“Thus says Jehovah of hosts: ‘Again in this place, which is desolate without man and without beast, and in all its cities, shall be a habitation of shepherds causing their flocks to lie down. ^33:13In the cities of the mountains, in the cities of the vale, and in the cities of the south, and in the land of Benjamin, and in the places around Jerusalem, and in the cities of Judah, shall the flocks again pass under the hands of him that counts them,’ says Jehovah.’

^33:14“‘Behold, the days are coming,’ says Jehovah, ‘that I will perform that good thing that I have promised to the house of Israel and the house of Judah. ^33:15In those days, and at that time, will I cause the Branch of Righteousness to grow up to David; and he shall execute judgment and righteousness in the land. ^33:16In those days shall Judah be saved, and Jerusalem shall dwell safely; and this is the name that she shall be called, ‘Jehovah our righteousness.’’ ^33:17For thus says Jehovah: ‘David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; ^33:18neither shall the priests the Levites want a man before me to offer burnt offerings, and to kindle meal offerings, and to do sacrifice continually.’”

^33:23Moreover the Word of Jehovah came to Jeremiah, saying, ^33:24“Do you not consider what this people have spoken, saying, ‘The two families which Jehovah has chosen, he has even cast them off?’

“Thus have they despised my people, that they should no longer be a nation before them.’

^33:25“Thus says Jehovah: ‘If my Covenant is not with day and night, and if I have not appointed the ordinances of heaven and earth, ^33:26then will I also cast away the seed of Jacob, and David my servant, so that I will not take any of his seed to be rulers over the seed of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob: for I will cause their captivity to return, and have mercy on them.’”

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová librará al pueblo de Israel desde el tiempo de los problemas de Jacob, la Gran Tribulación (30:1 - 17)

^30:1Palabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías, diciendo, ^30:2“Así habló Jehová Dios de Israel, diciendo, ‘Escríbete en un Libro todas las palabras que te he hablado: ^30:3porque he aquí que vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘en que haré volver la cautividad de mi pueblo Israel y Judá,’ dice Jehová, y los traeré a la tierra que di a sus padres, y la poseerán’”.

^30:4Éstas, pues, son las palabras que habló Jehová acerca de Israel y de Judá: ^30:5“Porque así dice Jehová, ‘Hemos oído voz de temblor, espanto, y no paz. ^30:6Preguntad ahora, y mirad si el varón da a luz: porque he visto que todo hombre tenía las manos sobre sus lomos, como mujer de parto, y se han tornado pálidos todos los rostros.

^30:7“‘¡Ah, cuán grande es aquel día! tanto, que no hay otro semejante a él; tiempo de angustia para Jacob; pero de él será librado. ^30:8Y será en aquel día,’ dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘que yo quebraré su yugo de tu cuello, y romperé tus coyundas, y extraños no lo volverán más a poner en servidumbre, ^30:9sino que servirán a Jehová su Dios, y a David su rey, el cual les levantaré’”.

^30:10“‘Tú pues, siervo mío Jacob, no temas,’ dice Jehová, ‘ni te atemorices, Israel: porque he aquí que yo soy el que te salvo de lejos, y a tu simiente de la tierra de su cautividad; y Jacob volverá, y descansará tranquilo, y no habrá quien le espante: ^30:11porque yo estoy contigo,’ dice Jehová, ‘para salvarte; y haré consumación en todas las naciones entre las cuales te esparcí; pero en ti no haré consumación, sino que te castigaré con juicio; de ninguna manera te dejaré sin castigo’.

^30:12“Porque así dice Jehová, ‘Incurable es tu quebrantamiento, y grave tu herida. ^30:13No hay quien defienda tu causa para que seas sanado; no hay para ti medicina eficaz. ^30:14Todos tus amantes te olvidaron; no te buscan: porque de herida de enemigo te herí, con azote de cruel, a causa de la muchedumbre de tu maldad, y de la multitud de tus pecados. ^30:15¿Por qué gritas a causa de tu quebrantamiento? Incurable es tu dolor: porque por la grandeza de tu iniquidad, y por tus muchos pecados te he hecho esto. ^30:16Pero todos los que te consumen serán consumidos; y todos tus opresores, todos ellos, irán en cautiverio; y serán hollados los que te hollaron, y a todos los que hicieron presa de ti daré en presa. ^30:17Pero yo haré venir sanidad para ti, y te sanaré de tus heridas,’ dice Jehová; ‘porque Desechada te llamaron, diciendo, ‘Ésta es Sión, a la que nadie busca’’”.

¶Lo opuesto   Jehová restaurará al pueblo de Israel a su tierra desde el país del norte y desde los confines de la Tierra (30:18 - 31:9)

^30:18“Así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí yo hago volver la cautividad de las tiendas de Jacob, y de sus tiendas tendré misericordia; y la ciudad será edificada sobre su collado, y el palacio será asentado según su forma. ^30:19Y acción de gracias saldrá de ellos, y voz de gente que se regocija; y los multiplicaré, y no serán disminuidos; los glorificaré, y no serán menoscabados. ^30:20Y serán sus hijos como en el pasado y su congregación será afirmada delante de mí; y castigaré a todos sus opresores. ^30:21Y de entre ellos saldrán sus nobles, y de en medio de ellos saldrá su gobernador; y le haré llegar cerca, y él se acercará a mí: porque ¿quién es aquel que dispuso su corazón para acercarse a mí?’ dice Jehová. ^30:22‘Y me seréis por pueblo, y yo seré vuestro Dios.

^30:23“‘He aquí, el torbellino de Jehová va fuera con furor, un torbellino de barrido: caerá con dolor sobre la cabeza de los impíos. ^30:24No se volverá la ira del enojo de Jehová, hasta que haya hecho y cumplido los pensamientos de su corazón; en el fin de los días entenderéis esto’”.

^31:1“‘En aquel tiempo,’ dice Jehová, ‘Yo seré el Dios de todas las familias de Israel, y serán mi pueblo’.

^31:2“Así dice Jehová, ‘El pueblo que escapó de la espada halló gracia en el desierto; cuando fui yo para hacer reposar a Israel’”.

^31:3Jehová se manifestó a mí hace ya mucho tiempo, diciendo, “Con amor eterno te he amado; por tanto, te prolongué mi misericordia. ^31:4Aún te edificaré, y serás edificada, oh virgen de Israel; todavía serás adornada con tus panderos, y saldrás en corro de danzantes. ^31:5Aún plantarás viñas en los montes de Samaria; plantarán los plantadores, y harán común uso de ellas: ^31:6porque habrá día en que clamarán los guardas en el monte de Efraín, ‘Levantaos, y subamos a Sión, a Jehová nuestro Dios!’ ^31:7Porque así dice Jehová, ‘Regocijaos en Jacob con alegría, y dad voces de júbilo a la cabeza de naciones; haced oír, alabad, y decid, ‘Oh Jehová, salva a tu pueblo, el remanente de Israel’. ^31:8He aquí yo los hago volver de la tierra del norte, y los reuniré de los confines de la tierra, y entre ellos ciegos y cojos, la mujer encinta y la que da a luz juntamente; una gran compañía volverá acá. ^31:9Con llanto vendrán, y entre súplicas los conduciré. Los haré andar junto a arroyos de aguas, por camino derecho en el cual no tropezarán: porque soy Padre para Israel, y Efraín es mi primogénito’”.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Aunque Jerusalén pronto sería destruida, el cautiverio de Judá sería restaurado en suyo tierra (31:10 - 32:44)

¶Lo opuesto   El pueblo de Israel se regocijará y estará satisfecho con la bondad de Jehová (31:10 - 26)

^31:10“Oíd Palabra de Jehová, oh naciones, y declaradlo en las islas de lejos, y decid, ‘El que esparció a Israel lo reunirá y lo guardará como un pastor hace su rebaño: ^31:11porque Jehová ha redimido a Jacob, y le rescató desde la mano de aquel que era más fuerte que él.

^31:12“‘Porque vendrán y cantarán en la altura de Sión, y fluirán juntos a la bondad de Jehová: para el trigo, para el vino, para el aceite, y para los jóvenes del rebaño y de la manada; y su alma de ellos será como un jardín regado; nunca a la tristeza otra vez.

^31:13“‘Entonces la virgen se regocijará en el baile, tanto jóvenes como ancianos juntos; porque convertiré su luto en gozo, y los consolaré, y los haré alegrar desde su dolor. ^31:14Y llenaré de abundancia el alma de los sacerdotes; y mi pueblo estará satisfecho con mi bondad,” dice Jehová”.

^31:15“Así dice Jehová, ‘Voz fue oída en Ramá, llanto y lloro amargo: Raquel que llora por sus hijos, y no quiso ser consolada acerca de sus hijos: porque perecieron’. ^31:16Así dice Jehová, ‘Reprime tu voz del llanto, y tus ojos de las lágrimas: porque tu obra será recompensada,’ dice Jehová, ‘y volverán de la tierra del enemigo. ^31:17Esperanza también hay para tu fin,’ dice Jehová, ‘y los hijos volverán a su término.

^31:18“‘Ciertamente he oído a Efraín lamentarse, diciendo, ‘Me azotaste, y castigado fui como novillo indómito. Conviérteme y seré convertido: porque tú eres Jehová mi Dios. ^31:19Porque después que me volví, tuve arrepentimiento, y después que fui instruido, golpeé mi muslo; me avergoncé y me confundí: porque llevé el oprobio de mi juventud’. ^31:20¿No es Efraín hijo precioso para mí? ¿No es niño placentero? Pues desde que hablé contra él, fervientemente le he recordado. Por eso mis entrañas se conmueven por él; ciertamente tendré de él misericordia,’ dice Jehová. ^31:21‘Establécete señales, hazte majanos altos; pon tu corazón hacia el camino, vuelve al camino de donde te fuiste, virgen de Israel, vuelve a estas tus ciudades. ^31:22¿Hasta cuándo andarás errante, oh hija contumaz? Porque Jehová creará una cosa nueva sobre la tierra; la mujer rodeará al varón’. ^31:23Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘Aún dirán esta palabra en la tierra de Judá y en sus ciudades, cuando yo haga volver su cautiverio, ‘Jehová te bendiga, oh morada de justicia, oh monte santo’. ^31:24Y morará allí Judá; y también en todas sus ciudades; los labradores y los que van con rebaño: ^31:25porque di satisfacción al alma cansada, y sacié toda alma entristecida’”. ^31:26En esto me desperté, y vi, y mi sueño me fue sabroso.

¶Lo opuesto   Si las ordenanzas de la naturaleza dejan de existir, entonces Israel también dejará de existir (31:27 - 40)

^31:27“‘He aquí vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘en que sembraré la casa de Israel y la casa de Judá de simiente de hombre y de simiente de animal. ^31:28Y será que, como tuve cuidado de ellos para arrancar y derribar, y trastornar y perder, y afligir, así tendré cuidado de ellos para edificar y plantar,’ dice Jehová. ^31:29‘En aquellos días no dirán más, ‘Los padres comieron las uvas agrias, y los dientes de los hijos tienen la dentera’. ^31:30Sino que cada cual morirá por su propia maldad; los dientes de todo hombre que comiere las uvas agrias, tendrán la dentera.

^31:31“‘He aquí que vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘en los cuales haré nuevo Pacto con la casa de Jacob y la casa de Judá: ^31:32no como el Pacto que hice con sus padres el día que tomé su mano para sacarlos de la tierra de Egipto: porque ellos invalidaron mi Pacto, bien que fui yo un marido para ellos,’ dice Jehová. ^31:33‘Pero éste es el Pacto que haré con la casa de Israel después de aquellos días,’ dice Jehová, ‘Daré mi Ley en sus entrañas, y la escribiré en sus corazones; y yo seré su Dios, y serán mi pueblo. ^31:34Y no enseñará más ninguno a su prójimo, ni ninguno a su hermano, diciendo, ‘Conoce a Jehová’: porque todos me conocerán, desde el más pequeño de ellos hasta el más grande,’ dice Jehová, ‘porque perdonaré la maldad de ellos, y no me acordaré más de su pecado’”.

^31:35“Así dice Jehová, que da el sol para luz de día, y las ordenanzas de la luna y de las estrellas para luz de noche, que reprende al mar cuando rugen sus olas (Jehová de los ejércitos es su Nombre): ^31:36‘Si esas Ordenanzas dejaren de ser delante de mí,’ dice Jehová, ‘entonces la descendencia de Israel también dejará de ser una nación delante de mí para siempre’.

^31:37“Así dice Jehová: ‘Si se pueden medir los cielos arriba y explorar abajo los cimientos de la tierra, entonces yo también desecharé toda la descendencia de Israel por todo lo que han hecho,’ dice Jehová.

^31:38“‘He aquí que vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘en que la ciudad será edificada a Jehová, desde la torre de Hananeel hasta la puerta del Ángulo. ^31:39Y saldrá más adelante el cordel de la medida delante de él sobre el collado de Gareb, y rodeará a Goa. ^31:40Y todo el valle de los cuerpos muertos y de la ceniza, y todas las llanuras hasta el arroyo de Cedrón, hasta la esquina de la puerta de los Caballos al oriente, será santo a Jehová; no será arrancada ni destruida más para siempre’”.

¶El complemento   Jeremías obedeció la voluntad de Jehová de comprar el campo de su primo en Anathoth

^32:1Palabra de Jehová que vino a Jeremías, el año décimo de Sedequías rey de Judá, que fue el año decimoctavo de Nabucodonosor. ^32:2Y entonces el ejército del rey de Babilonia tenía cercada a Jerusalén; y el Profeta Jeremías estaba preso en el patio de la cárcel que estaba en la casa del rey de Judá. ^32:3Pues Sedequías rey de Judá lo había apresado, diciendo, “¿Por qué profetizas tú diciendo, ‘Así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí yo entrego esta ciudad en mano del rey de Babilonia, y la tomará, ^32:4y Sedequías rey de Judá no escapará de la mano de los caldeos, sino que de cierto será entregado en mano del rey de Babilonia, y hablará con él boca a boca, y sus ojos verán sus ojos, ^32:5y hará llevar a Sedequías a Babilonia, y allá estará hasta que yo le visite,’ dice Jehová, ‘si peleareis con los caldeos, no os sucederá bien’’?”.

^32:6Y dijo Jeremías, “Palabra de Jehová vino a mí, diciendo, ^32:7‘He aquí que Hanameel, hijo de Salum tu tío, viene a ti, diciendo, ‘Cómprame mi heredad que está en Anatot: porque tú tienes derecho a ella para comprarla’’”.

^32:8Y vino a mí Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, conforme a la Palabra de Jehová, al patio de la cárcel, y me dijo, “Compra ahora mi heredad que está en Anatot, en tierra de Benjamín: porque tuyo es el derecho de la herencia, y a ti compete la redención. Cómpralo para ti mismo”.

Entonces conocí que era Palabra de Jehová. ^32:9Y compré la heredad de Hanameel, hijo de mi tío, la cual estaba en Anatot, y le pesé el dinero; diecisiete siclos de plata. ^32:10Y escribí la carta, y la sellé, y tomé testigos, y pesé el dinero en la balanza. ^32:11Tomé luego la carta de venta, sellada según el derecho y costumbre, y el traslado abierto. ^32:12Y di la carta de venta a Baruc hijo de Nerías, hijo de Maasías, delante de Hanameel el hijo de mi tío, y delante de los testigos que habían suscrito en la carta de venta, delante de todos los Judíos que estaban en el patio de la cárcel.

^32:13Y di orden a Baruc delante de ellos, diciendo, ^32:14“Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘Toma estas cartas, esta carta de venta sellada, y esta carta abierta, y ponlas en un vaso de barro, para que se conserven muchos días’. ^32:15Porque así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, ‘Aún se comprarán casas, y heredades, y viñas en esta tierra’”.

¶El complemento   Jeremías estaba confundido por la dirección del Señor de comprar el campo, porque los caldeos iban a destruir Jerusalén (32:16 - 25)

^32:16Y después que di la carta de venta a Baruc hijo de Nerías, oré a Jehová, diciendo, ^32:17“¡Oh Señor Jehová! He aquí que tú hiciste el cielo y la tierra con tu gran poder, y con tu brazo extendido, ni hay nada que sea difícil para ti; ^32:18que haces misericordia en millares, y vuelves la maldad de los padres en el seno de sus hijos después de ellos: Dios grande, poderoso, Jehová de los ejércitos es su Nombre.

^32:19“Eres grande en consejo, y poderoso en hechos: porque tus ojos están abiertos sobre todos los caminos de los hijos de los hombres, para dar a cada uno según sus caminos, y según el fruto de sus obras; ^32:20que pusiste señales y portentos en tierra de Egipto hasta este día, y en Israel, y entre los hombres; y te has hecho Nombre cual es este día; ^32:21y sacaste tu pueblo Israel de tierra de Egipto con señales y portentos, y con mano fuerte y brazo extendido, con terror grande; ^32:22y les diste esta tierra, de la cual juraste a sus padres que se la darías, tierra que mana leche y miel.

^32:23“Y ellos entraron, y la poseyeron; pero no oyeron tu voz, ni anduvieron en tu Ley. Ellos nada hicieron de lo que les mandaste hacer; por tanto has hecho venir sobre ellos todo este mal”.

^32:24“He aquí que con arietes han acometido la ciudad para tomarla; y la ciudad va a ser entregada en mano de los caldeos que pelean contra ella, a causa de la espada, y del hambre y de la pestilencia; lo que tú habías dicho, ha sucedido, y he aquí tú lo estás viendo.

^32:25“¿Y ahora me has dicho verdaderamente, oh Señor Jehová: ‘Cómprate la heredad por dinero, y pon testigos; aunque la ciudad sea entregada en manos de los caldeos’?”.

¶Único   Jehová confirmó la inminente destrucción de Jerusalén, pero prometió restaurar al pueblo de Israel a su tierra (32:26 - 44)

^32:26Y vino Palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo, ^32:27“He aquí, yo soy Jehová, Dios de toda carne. ¿Es cualquier cosa demasiado difícil para mí?’

^32:28“Por tanto así dice Jehová, ‘He aquí voy a entregar esta ciudad en mano de los caldeos, y en mano de Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, y la tomará; ^32:29y vendrán los caldeos que combaten contra esta ciudad, y le prenderán fuego, y la quemarán, asimismo las casas sobre cuyas azoteas ofrecieron incienso a Baal y derramaron libaciones a dioses ajenos, para provocarme a ira: ^32:30porque los hijos de Israel y los hijos de Judá no han hecho sino lo malo delante de mis ojos desde su juventud: porque los hijos de Israel no han hecho más que provocarme a ira con la obra de sus manos,’ dice Jehová. ^32:31‘Porque esta ciudad me ha sido, como provocación a ira e indignación, desde el día que la edificaron y hasta hoy; de modo que la quitaré de mi presencia, ^32:32por toda la maldad de los hijos de Israel y de los hijos de Judá, que han hecho para enojarme, ellos, sus reyes, sus príncipes, sus sacerdotes, y sus profetas, y los varones de Judá, y los moradores de Jerusalén. ^32:33Y me volvieron la cerviz, y no el rostro; y aunque los enseñaba, madrugando y enseñando, no escucharon para recibir corrección. ^32:34Antes asentaron sus abominaciones en la Casa sobre la cual es invocado mi Nombre, contaminándola. ^32:35Y edificaron altares a Baal, los cuales están en el valle del hijo de Hinom, para hacer pasar por el fuego a sus hijos y a sus hijas a Moloc, lo cual no les mandé, ni me vino al pensamiento que hiciesen esta abominación, para hacer pecar a Judá’”.

^32:36“Y ahora por tanto, así dice Jehová Dios de Israel, a esta ciudad, de la cual decís, ‘Entregada será en mano del rey de Babilonia a espada, a hambre, y a pestilencia’: ^32:37‘He aquí que yo los juntaré de todas las tierras a las cuales los eché con mi furor, y con mi enojo y saña grande; y los haré tornar a este lugar, y los haré habitar seguramente, ^32:38y serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios. ^32:39Y les daré un corazón, y un Camino, para que me teman perpetuamente, para bien de ellos, y de sus hijos después de ellos. ^32:40Y haré con ellos Pacto eterno, que no tornaré atrás de hacerles bien, y pondré mi temor en el corazón de ellos, para que no se aparten de mí.

^32:41“‘Además, me alegraré encima ellos para hacerles bien, y los plantaré en esta tierra en verdad, de todo mi corazón y de toda mi alma’.

^32:42Porque así dice Jehová, ‘Como traje sobre este pueblo todo este grande mal, así traeré sobre ellos todo el bien que les he prometido. ^32:43Y poseerán heredad en esta tierra de la cual ustedes decís, ‘Está desierta, sin hombres y sin animales; es entregada en manos de los caldeos’. ^32:44Heredades comprarán por dinero, y harán carta, y la sellarán, y pondrán testigos, en tierra de Benjamín y en los contornos de Jerusalén, y en las ciudades de Judá; y en las ciudades de las montañas, y en las ciudades de los valles, y en las ciudades del Neguev: porque yo haré volver su cautividad,’ dice Jehová’”.

§El complemento   Conclusión: El regreso del cautiverio de Judá a la tierra de Israel es tan seguro como los ciclos del día y la noche que Dios ordenó (33:1 - 26)

¶El complemento   Jehová hará que la cautividad de los Judíos para volver a la tierra de Israel (33:1 - 18)

^33:1Y vino Palabra de Jehová a Jeremías la segunda vez, estando él aún preso en el patio de la cárcel, diciendo, ^33:2“Así dice Jehová que hizo la tierra, Jehová que la formó para afirmarla; Jehová es su Nombre: ^33:3‘Clama a mí, y yo te responderé, y te enseñaré cosas grandes y difíciles que tú no conoces’.

^33:4“Porque así dice Jehová, Dios de Israel, acerca de las casas de esta ciudad, y de las casas de los reyes de Judá, derribadas con arietes y con hachas ^33:5(porque vinieron para pelear con los caldeos, para llenarlas de cuerpos de hombres muertos, a los cuales herí yo con mi furor y con mi ira, pues yo escondí mi rostro de esta ciudad, a causa de toda su maldad): ^33:6‘He aquí que yo le hago subir sanidad y medicina; y los curaré, y les revelaré abundancia de paz y de verdad. ^33:7Y haré volver la cautividad de Judá, y la cautividad de Israel, y los edificaré como al principio. ^33:8Y los limpiaré de toda su maldad con que pecaron contra mí; y perdonaré todos sus pecados con que contra mí pecaron, y con que contra mí se rebelaron. ^33:9Y me será a mí por nombre de gozo, de alabanza y de gloria, entre todas las naciones de la tierra, que habrán oído todo el bien que yo les hago; y temerán y temblarán de todo el bien y de toda la paz que yo les haré’”.

^33:10“Así dice Jehová, ‘Una vez más, en este lugar se oirá (lo que decís será desolado sin hombre y sin bestia, incluso en las ciudades de Judá y en las calles de Jerusalén, que están desoladas, sin hombre, sin habitante y sin bestia) ^33:11la voz de la alegría, la voz de la felicidad, la voz del novio, la voz de la novia y la voz de los que dirán, ‘Alabad a Jehová de los ejércitos: porque Jehová es bueno: porque para siempre es su misericordia’; voz de los que traigan alabanza a la Casa de Jehová: porque volveré a traer la cautividad de la tierra como al principio,’ dice Jehová.

^33:12“Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos, ‘En este lugar desierto, sin hombre y sin animal, y en todas sus ciudades, aún habrá cabañas de pastores que hagan descansar a sus rebaños. ^33:13En las ciudades de las montañas, en las ciudades de los valles, y en las ciudades del Neguev, y en tierra de Benjamín, y alrededor de Jerusalén y en las ciudades de Judá, aún pasarán ganados por las manos de los que las cuentan,’ dice Jehová.

^33:14“‘He aquí vienen días,’ dice Jehová, ‘en que yo confirmaré la palabra buena que he hablado a la casa de Israel y a la casa de Judá. ^33:15En aquellos días y en aquel tiempo haré producir a David Renuevo de justicia, y hará juicio y justicia en la tierra. ^33:16En aquellos días Judá será salvo, y Jerusalén habitará segura, y éste es el nombre con el cual la llamarán, ‘Jehová, justicia nuestra’’. ^33:17Porque así dice Jehová, ‘No faltará a David varón que se siente sobre el trono de la casa de Israel; ^33:18y de los sacerdotes y levitas no faltará varón que en mi presencia ofrezca holocausto, y encienda presente, y que haga sacrificio todos los días’”.

^33:19Y vino Palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo, ^33:20“Así dice Jehová: ‘Si podéis quebrantar mi Pacto del día, y mi Pacto de la noche, y que no debería haber día y noche en su temporada, ^33:21entonces también puede ser roto mi Pacto con David mi siervo que él no debería tener un hijo para reinar en su trono; y con los levitas los sacerdotes, mis ministros.

^33:22“‘Como no puede ser contado el ejército del cielo, ni la arena del mar se puede medir, así multiplicaré la simiente de David mi siervo, y los levitas que a mí ministran’”.

^33:23Y vino Palabra de Jehová a Jeremías, diciendo, ^33:24“¿No has considerado lo que habla este pueblo, diciendo, ‘Las dos familias que Jehová escogió, las ha desechado?’.

“De esta manera han despreciado a mi gente, hasta no tenerlos más por nación’.

^33:25“Así dice Jehová, ‘Si mi pacto no es con el día y la noche, y si yo no he puesto las leyes del cielo y de la tierra, ^33:26entonces también desecharé la simiente de Jacob, y de David mi siervo, para no tomar de su simiente quien sea señor sobre la simiente de Abraham, de Isaac, y de Jacob: porque causaré su cautiverio vuelva y tendré misericordia de ellos’”.
