Numbers, Chapter 1.5: Jehovah protected the priesthood of Aaron from the rebellion of Korah (15:1 - 19:22)

^15:1And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^15:2“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘When you have come into the land of your habitations, which I give to you, ^15:3and will make an offering by fire to Jehovah (a burnt offering, or a sacrifice in performing a vow, or in a freewill offering, or in your solemn feasts, to make a sweet aroma to Jehovah, of the herd, or of the flock), ^15:4then he that offers his offering to Jehovah shall bring a meal offering of a tenth deal of flour mingled with the fourth part of a hin of oil. ^15:5And you shall prepare the fourth part of a hin of wine for a drink offering with the burnt offering or sacrifice, for one lamb; ^15:6or for a ram, you shall prepare two tenth deals of flour mingled with the third part of a hin of oil for a meal offering. ^15:7And for a drink offering, you shall offer the third part of a hin of wine, for a sweet aroma to Jehovah. ^15:8And when you prepare a bull for a burnt offering, or for a sacrifice in performing a vow, or peace offerings to Jehovah, ^15:9then he shall bring with a bull a meal offering of three tenth deals of flour mingled with half a hin of oil; ^15:10and you shall bring half a hin of wine for a drink offering, an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to Jehovah. ^15:11In this manner shall it be done for one bull, or for one ram, or for a lamb, or a kid. ^15:12According to the number that you shall prepare, so shall you do to everyone according to their number. ^15:13All that are born of the country shall do these things after this manner, in offering an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to Jehovah. ^15:14And if a stranger visits you, or whosoever is among you in your generations, and will offer an offering made by fire, of a sweet aroma to Jehovah, as you do, so he shall do. ^15:15One Ordinance shall be both for you of the congregation, and also for the stranger that visits with you, an Ordinance forever in your generations; as you are, so shall the stranger be before Jehovah. ^15:16One Law and one manner shall be both for you, and for the stranger that visits you.’”

^15:17And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^15:18“Speak to the children of Israel, and say to them, ‘When you come into the land where I am bringing you, ^15:19then it shall be, that, when you eat of the bread of the land, you shall offer up a heave offering to Jehovah. ^15:20You shall offer up a cake of the first of your dough for a heave offering; as you do the heave offering of the threshing floor, so shall you heave it.

^15:21Of the first of your dough you shall give to Jehovah a heave offering in your generations.

^15:22And if you have gone astray, and not observed all these Commandments (which Jehovah has spoken to Moses, ^15:23even all that Jehovah has commanded you by the hand of Moses, from the day that Jehovah commanded Moses, and henceforward among your generations), ^15:24then it shall be, if anything is committed by ignorance without the knowledge of the congregation, that all the congregation shall offer one young bull for a burnt offering for a sweet aroma to Jehovah (with his meal offering, and his drink offering, according to the prescribed manner), and one kid of the goats for a sin offering. ^15:25And the priest shall make an atonement for all the congregation of the children of Israel; and it shall be forgiven them: for it is ignorance. And they shall bring their offering, a sacrifice made by fire to Jehovah, and their sin offering before Jehovah, for their ignorance. ^15:26And it shall be forgiven all the congregation of the children of Israel, and the stranger that sojourns among them, seeing that all the people were in ignorance. ^15:27And if any soul sins through ignorance, then shall he bring a female goat of the first year for a sin offering. ^15:28And the priest shall make an atonement for the soul that sins ignorantly, when he sins by ignorance before Jehovah, to make an atonement for him; and it shall be forgiven him. ^15:29You shall have one Law for him that sins through ignorance, both for him that is born among the children of Israel, and for the stranger that visits among them.

^15:30But the soul that does anything presumptuously, whether he is born in the land, or a stranger, the same reproaches Jehovah; and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ^15:31Because he has despised the Word of Jehovah, and has broken his Commandment, that soul shall be utterly cut off; his iniquity shall be upon him.’”

^15:32And while the children of Israel were in the wilderness, they found a man that gathered sticks on the Sabbath day. ^15:33And they that found him gathering sticks brought him to Moses and Aaron, and to all the congregation. ^15:34And they put him in custody, because it had not been declared what should be done to him.

^15:35And Jehovah said to Moses, “The man shall surely be put to death. All the congregation shall stone him with stones outside the camp.” ^15:36And all the congregation brought him outside the camp; and stoned him with stones. And he died, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

^15:37And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^15:38“Speak to the children of Israel; and command them that they make themselves fringes in the borders of their garments throughout their generations; and that they put upon the fringe of the borders a ribbon of blue.

^15:39And it shall be to you for a fringe, that you may look upon it, and remember all the Commandments of Jehovah, and do them. And that you do not seek after your own heart and your own eyes, after which you used to go a whoring; ^15:40and that you may remember, and do all my Commandments, and be holy to your God.

^15:41I am Jehovah your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your God; I am Jehovah your God.”

^16:1Now Korah (the son of Izhar, the son of Kohath, the son of Levi) and Dathan and Abiram (the sons of Eliab, and On: the son of Peleth, sons of Reuben) took men. ^16:2And they rose up before Moses, with certain of the children of Israel (two hundred and fifty princes of the assembly, famous in the congregation, men of celebrity); ^16:3and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron. And they said to them, “You take too much upon yourselves, seeing all the congregation are holy, every one of them, and Jehovah is among them. Why then do you exalt yourselves above the congregation of Jehovah?”

^16:4And when Moses heard this, he fell upon his face; ^16:5and he spoke to Korah and to all his company, saying, “Even tomorrow will Jehovah show who are his, and who is holy; and will cause him to come near to him; even him whom he has chosen will he cause to come near to him. ^16:6Do this: take censers (Korah, and all his company), ^16:7and put fire in it, and put incense in them before Jehovah tomorrow. And it shall be that the man whom Jehovah chooses, he shall be holy. You take too much upon yourselves, you sons of Levi!”

^16:8And Moses said to Korah, “Please hear, you sons of Levi: ^16:9does it seem a small thing to you, that the God of Israel has separated you from the congregation of Israel, to bring you near to himself to do the service of the Tabernacle of Jehovah, and to stand before the congregation to minister to them? ^16:10And he has brought you near to him, and all your brethren the sons of Levi with you. And do you seek the priesthood also? ^16:11For which cause both you and all your company are gathered together against Jehovah. And what is Aaron, that you murmur against him?”

^16:12And Moses sent to call Dathan and Abiram, the sons of Eliab; who said, “We will not come up. ^16:13Is it a small thing that you have brought us up out of a land that flows with milk and honey, to kill us in the wilderness, except you make yourself altogether a prince over us? ^16:14Moreover you have not brought us into a land that flows with milk and honey, nor given us inheritance of fields and vineyards. Will you put out the eyes of these men? We will not come up.” ^16:15And Moses was very angry, and said to Jehovah, “Do not respect their offering. I have not taken one donkey from them; neither have I hurt one of them.”

^16:16And Moses said to Korah, “You and all your company be before Jehovah (you, they, and Aaron) tomorrow; ^16:17and every man take his censer, and put incense in them. And every man bring before Jehovah his censer, two hundred and fifty censers; you also, and Aaron, each of you his censer.”

And the glory of Jehovah appeared to all the congregation. ^16:20And Jehovah spoke to Moses and to Aaron, saying, ^16:21“Separate yourselves from among this congregation, that I may consume them in a moment.” ^16:22And they fell upon their faces, and said, “O God, the God of the spirits of all flesh: shall one man sin, and will you be angry with all the congregation?”

^16:23And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^16:24“Speak to the congregation, saying, ‘Get away from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram.’” ^16:25And Moses rose up and went to Dathan and Abiram; and the elders of Israel followed him. ^16:26And he spoke to the congregation, saying, “Please depart from the tents of these wicked men, and touch nothing of theirs, lest you are consumed in all their sins!” ^16:27So they got away from the tabernacle of Korah, Dathan, and Abiram, on every side; and Dathan and Abiram came out, and stood in the door of their tents, and their wives, and their sons, and their little children.

^16:28And Moses said, “Hereby you shall know that Jehovah has sent me to do all these works: for I have not done them of my own mind. ^16:29If these men die the common death of all men, or if they are visited after the visitation of all men, then Jehovah has not sent me. ^16:30But if Jehovah makes a new thing, and the earth opens her mouth, and swallows them up, with all that belongs to them, and they go down alive into Hell, then you shall understand that these men have provoked Jehovah!”

^16:31And it came to pass, as he had made an end of speaking all these words, that the ground that was under them split apart; ^16:32and the earth opened her mouth, and swallowed them up, and their houses, and all the men that belonged to Korah, and all their goods: ^16:33they, and all that belonged to them, went down alive into Hell; and the earth closed upon them, and they perished from among the congregation. ^16:34And all Israel that were round about them fled at their cry: for they said, “Lest the earth swallow us up also!”

^16:35And a fire came out from Jehovah, and consumed the two hundred and fifty men that offered incense. ^16:36And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, ^16:37“Speak to Eleazar the son of Aaron the priest, that he take up the censers out of the burning, and scatter the fire far away: for they are holy. ^16:38The censers of these sinners against their own souls, let them make them broad plates for a covering of the altar: for they offered them before Jehovah; therefore they are holy; and they shall be a sign to the children of Israel.” ^16:39And Eleazar the priest took the bronze censers, with which they that were burned had offered incense; and they were made broad plates for a covering of the altar, ^16:40to be a memorial to the children of Israel, so that no stranger, which is not of the seed of Aaron, comes near to offer incense before Jehovah; that he not be as Korah, and as his company, as Jehovah said to him by the hand of Moses.

^15:30Pero la persona que hiciere algo con altivez, así el natural como el extranjero, a Jehová injurió; y tal persona será cortada de en medio de su pueblo. ^15:31Por cuanto tuvo en poco la Palabra de Jehová, y dio por nulo su mandamiento, enteramente será cortada la tal persona; su iniquidad será sobre ella’”.

^15:35Y Jehová dijo a Moisés, “El hombre seguramente será ejecutado; apedréelo con piedras toda la congregación fuera del campamento”. ^15:36Entonces lo sacó la congregación fuera del campo, y lo apedrearon con piedras, y murió; como Jehová mandó a Moisés.

^15:37Y Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo, ^15:38“Habla a los hijos de Israel, y diles que se hagan franjas en los bordes de sus vestiduras, por sus generaciones; y pongan en cada franja de los bordes un cordón de azul.

^15:39Y os servirá de franja, para que cuando lo viereis, os acordéis de todos los Mandamientos de Jehová, para ponerlos por obra; y no miréis en pos de vuestro corazón y de vuestros ojos, en pos de los cuales fornicáis. ^15:40Para que os acordéis, y hagáis todos mis Mandamientos, y seáis santos a vuestro Dios.

^15:41Yo Jehová vuestro Dios, que os saqué de la tierra de Egipto, para ser vuestro Dios; yo Jehová vuestro Dios”.

^16:4Y cuando lo oyó Moisés, se postró sobre su rostro; ^16:5y habló a Coré y a todo su séquito, diciendo, “Mañana mostrará Jehová quién es suyo, y quién es santo, y hará que se acerque a él; y al que él escogiere, él lo acercará a sí. ^16:6Haced esto: tomad incensarios (Coré y todo su séquito), ^16:7y poned fuego en ellos, y poned en ellos incienso delante de Jehová mañana; y será que el varón a quien Jehová escogiere, aquél será santo. ¡Ustedes toman demasiado sobre ustedes mismos, oh hijos de Leví!”.

^16:8Dijo más Moisés a Coré, “Oíd ahora, hijos de Leví: ^16:9¿Os parece poca cosa que el Dios de Israel os haya apartado de la congregación de Israel, para acercaros a sí para que ministraseis en el servicio del Tabernáculo de Jehová, y estuvieseis delante de la congregación para ministrarles, ^16:10e hizo que te acercaras a él, y a todos tus hermanos los hijos de Leví contigo? ¿Y procuráis también el sacerdocio? ^16:11Por lo cual, tú y todo tu séquito os juntáis contra Jehová, pues Aarón ¿qué es, para que contra él murmuréis?”.

^16:12Y envió Moisés a llamar a Datán y Abiram, hijos de Eliab; pero respondieron, “No iremos allá. ^16:13¿Se te hace poco que nos hayas hecho venir de una tierra que destila leche y miel, para hacernos morir en el desierto, sino que también te enseñoreas de nosotros imperiosamente? ^16:14Ni tampoco nos has metido tú en tierra que fluya leche y miel, ni nos has dado heredades de tierras y viñas. ¿Has de arrancar los ojos de estos hombres? ¡No subiremos!”. ^16:15Entonces Moisés se enojó en gran manera, y dijo a Jehová, “No mires a su presente; ni aun un asno he tomado de ellos, ni a ninguno de ellos he hecho mal”.

^16:16Después dijo Moisés a Coré, “Tú y todo tu séquito, poneos mañana delante de Jehová; tú, y ellos, y Aarón. ^16:17Y tomad cada uno su incensario, y poned incienso en ellos, y acercaos delante de Jehová cada uno con su incensario; doscientos cincuenta incensarios; tú también, y Aarón, cada uno con su incensario”.

^16:28Y dijo Moisés, “¡En esto conoceréis que Jehová me ha enviado para que hiciese todas estas obras; pues no las hice de mi propio corazón. ^16:29Si como mueren todos los hombres murieren éstos, o si fueren ellos visitados a la manera de todos los hombres, Jehová no me envió. ^16:30Pero si Jehová hiciere una nueva cosa, y la tierra abriere su boca y los tragare con todas sus cosas, y descendieren vivos al abismo, entonces conoceréis que estos hombres irritaron a Jehová!”.

^16:31Y aconteció, que acabando él de hablar todas estas palabras, se abrió la tierra que estaba debajo de ellos. ^16:32Y la tierra abrió su boca, y los tragó a ellos, y a sus casas, y a todos los hombres de Coré, y a toda su hacienda. ^16:33Y ellos, y todo lo que les pertenecía, descendieron vivos al Infierno; y la tierra se cerró sobre ellos, y perecieron desde entre la congregación. ^16:34Y todo Israel, los que estaban en derredor de ellos, huyeron al grito de ellos: porque decían, “¡No sea que la tierra nos trague también!”.

^16:35Y salió fuego de Jehová, y consumió a los doscientos cincuenta hombres que ofrecían el incienso. ^16:36Entonces Jehová habló a Moisés, diciendo, ^16:37“Di a Eleazar, hijo de Aarón sacerdote, que tome los incensarios de en medio del incendio, y derrame más allá el fuego: porque son santificados. ^16:38Los incensarios de estos que pecaron contra sus almas; y harán de ellos planchas extendidas para cubrir el altar; por cuanto ofrecieron con ellos delante de Jehová, son santificados; y serán por señal a los hijos de Israel”. ^16:39Y el sacerdote Eleazar tomó los incensarios de bronce con que los quemados habían ofrecido; y los extendieron para cubrir el altar, ^16:40en recuerdo a los hijos de Israel que ningún extranjero que no sea de la simiente de Aarón, se acerque a ofrecer incienso delante de Jehová, para que no sea como Coré y como su séquito; según se lo dijo Jehová por mano de Moisés.
