Please, bury me not in Egypt, ^47:30but I will lie with my fathers; and you shall carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burial place”. And he said, “I will do as you have said.” ^47:31And he said, “Swear to me.” And he swore to him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed’s head.

^48:3And Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty appeared to me at Luz in the land of Canaan. And he blessed me, ^48:4and said to me, ‘Behold, I will make you fruitful, and multiply you, and I will make of you a multitude of people, and will give this land to your seed after you for an everlasting possession.’

^48:5“And now your two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh, which were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came to you into Egypt, are mine. As Reuben and Simeon, they shall be mine. ^48:6And your offspring, which you beget after them, shall be yours, and shall be called after the name of their brethren in their inheritance.

^48:7“And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the road, when yet there was but a little way to come to Ephrath. And I buried her there in the road of Ephrath: the same is Bethlehem.”

^48:14And Israel stretched out his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim’s head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manasseh’s head, guiding his hands knowingly: for Manasseh was the firstborn. ^48:15And he blessed Joseph, and said, “God, before whom my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, the God which fed me all my life long until this day, ^48:16the Angel which redeemed me from all evil, bless the boys. And let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Isaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.”

^48:17And when Joseph saw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it displeased him. And he held up his father’s hand, to move it from Ephraim’s head to Manasseh’s head. ^48:18And Joseph said to his father, “Not so, my father: for this is the firstborn; put your right hand upon his head.”

^48:19And his father refused, and said, “I know it, my son, I know it; he also shall become a people, and he also shall be great; but truly his younger brother shall be greater than he, and his seed shall become a multitude of nations.”

^48:20And he blessed them that day, saying, “In you shall Israel bless, saying, ‘God make you as Ephraim and as Manasseh.’” And he set Ephraim before Manasseh.

^48:21And Israel said to Joseph, “Behold, I am dying; but God shall be with you; and he shall bring you again to the land of your fathers. ^48:22Moreover I have given you one portion above your brothers, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my sword and with my bow.”

^49:1And Jacob called his sons; and he said, “Gather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which shall befall you in the Last Days.

^49:2“Gather yourselves together; and hear, you sons of Jacob; and listen to Israel your father.”

^49:3“Reuben, you are my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellence of dignity, and the excellence of power. ^49:4Unstable as water, you shall not excel, because you went up to your father’s bed, then you defiled it. He went up to my couch.

^49:5“Simeon and Levi are true brothers; instruments of cruelty are in their habitations. ^49:6O my soul, come not into their secret; unto their assembly, my honor, be not united: for in their anger they slew a man; and in their self-will they undermined a wall. ^49:7Cursed is their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel. I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.”

^49:8“Judah, you are he whom your brothers shall praise; your hand shall be in the neck of your enemies; your father’s children shall bow down before you. ^49:9Judah is a lion’s cub. From the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion. Who shall rouse him up? ^49:10The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes; and to him shall be the gathering of the people. ^49:11Binding his foal to the vine, and his donkey’s colt to the choice vine, he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes; ^49:12his eyes shall be redder than wine, and his teeth whiter than milk.

^49:13“Zebulun shall live at the haven of the sea; and he shall be for a haven of ships; and his border shall be unto Zidon.

^49:14“Issachar is a strong donkey couching down between two burdens; ^49:15and he saw that rest was good, and the land that it was pleasant; and he bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant to tribute.”

^49:16“Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel. ^49:17Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that bites the horse heels, so that his rider shall fall backward. ^49:18I have waited for your salvation, O Jehovah.

^49:19“Gad: a troop shall overcome him, but he shall overcome at the last.”

¶Unique   Jacob prophesied only good things for Asher, Naphtali, Joseph, and Benjamin (49:20 - 28)

^49:20“Out of Asher his bread shall be fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.

^49:21“Naphtali is a deer let loose; he gives beautiful words.”

^49:22“Joseph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well, whose branches run over the wall. ^49:23The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot at him, and hated him. ^49:24But his bow remains in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob (from there is the Shepherd, the Stone of Israel): ^49:25even by the God of your father, who shall help you; and by the Almighty, who shall bless you with blessings of Heaven above, blessings of the deep that lie under, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb. ^49:26The blessings of your father have prevailed above the blessings of my ancestors to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills: they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separated from his brothers.

^49:27“Benjamin shall ravin as a wolf; in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the plunder.”

^49:28All these are the twelve tribes of Israel; and this is that which their father spoke to them; and he blessed them; every one according to his blessing, he blessed them.

^49:33And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he gathered up his feet into the bed; and he yielded up the spirit, and was gathered to his people. ^50:1And Joseph fell upon his father’s face; and he wept upon him, and kissed him. ^50:2And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel. ^50:3And forty days were fulfilled for him: for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed. And the Egyptians mourned for him seventy days.

^50:4And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spoke to the household of Pharaoh, saying, “If now I have found grace in your eyes, please, speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying, ^50:5‘My father made me swear, saying, ‘Lo, I die; in my grave which I have dug for me in the land of Canaan, there shall you bury me.’ Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’” ^50:6And Pharaoh said, “Go up and bury your father, according as he made you swear.”

^50:7And Joseph went up to bury his father; and all the servants of Pharaoh went up with him, the elders of his household, and all the elders of the land of Egypt, ^50:8and all the household of Joseph, and his brothers, and his father’s household: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen. ^50:9And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen; and it was a very great company. ^50:10And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan; and there they mourned with a great and very solemn lamentation. And he made a mourning for his father seven days. ^50:11And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, “This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians”; therefore its name was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan. ^50:12And his sons did to him according as he commanded them: ^50:13for his sons carried him into the land of Canaan; and they buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a burying place of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.

^50:14And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brothers, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father. ^50:15And when Joseph’s brothers saw that their father was dead, they said, “Joseph will perhaps hate us, and will certainly repay us all the evil which we did to him.” ^50:16And they sent a messenger to Joseph, saying, “Your father commanded before he died, saying, ^50:17‘So shall you say to Joseph: please, forgive now the trespass of your brothers, and their sin: for they did evil to you.’ And now, please, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of your father.” And Joseph wept when they spoke to him. ^50:18And his brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.” ^50:19And Joseph said to them, “Fear not: for am I in the place of God? ^50:20But as for you, you thought evil against me, but God meant it to good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save many people alive. ^50:21Now therefore fear not; I will nourish you, and your little ones.” And he comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.

¶Complement   Joseph nurtured his family in Egypt until he died (50:22 - 26)

^50:22And Joseph dwelt in Egypt: he, and his father’s household;

and Joseph lived one hundred and ten years; ^50:23and Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation. The children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.

^50:24And Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying. And God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”

^50:25And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you; and you shall carry up my bones from here.”

^50:26So Joseph died, being one hundred and ten years old. And they embalmed him; and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

^48:17Pero al ver José que su padre ponía la mano derecha sobre la cabeza de Efraín, le causó esto disgusto; y asió la mano de su padre, para mudarla de sobre la cabeza de Efraín a la cabeza de Manasés. ^48:18Y dijo José a su padre, “No así, padre mío: porque éste es el primogénito; pon tu diestra sobre su cabeza”.

^48:19Pero su padre no quiso, y dijo, “Lo sé, hijo mío, lo sé: también él vendrá a ser un pueblo, y será también engrandecido; pero su hermano menor será más grande que él, y su simiente será multitud de naciones”.

^48:20Y los bendijo aquel día, diciendo, “En ti bendecirá Israel, diciendo, ‘Dios te haga como a Efraín y como a Manasés’”. Y puso a Efraín delante de Manasés.

^49:5“Simeón y Leví son hermanos: Instrumentos de crueldad hay en sus habitaciones. ^49:6En su secreto no entre mi alma, ni mi honra se junte en su compañía; que en su furor mataron varón, y en su voluntad arrancaron muro. ^49:7Maldito su furor, que fue fiero; y su ira, que fue dura: yo los apartaré en Jacob, y los esparciré en Israel”.

Se encorvó, se echó como león, así como león viejo. ¿Quién lo despertará? ^49:10El cetro no será quitado desde Judá, ni un legislador desde entre sus pies, hasta que venga Silo; y a él serán la reunión del pueblo. ^49:11Atando a la vid su pollino, y a la cepa el hijo de su asna, lavó en el vino su vestidura, y en la sangre de uvas su manto: ^49:12sus ojos rojos del vino, y los dientes blancos de la leche.

^49:13“Zabulón en puertos de mar habitará, y será para puerto de navíos; y su término hasta Sidón.

^49:14“Isacar, asno fuerte echado entre dos tercios: ^49:15y vio que el descanso era bueno, y que la tierra era deleitosa; y bajó su hombro para llevar, y sirvió en tributo”.

^49:16“Dan juzgará a su pueblo, como una de las tribus de Israel. ^49:17Será Dan serpiente junto al camino, víbora junto a la senda, que muerde los talones de los caballos, y hace caer hacia atrás al cabalgador de ellos. ^49:18Tu salvación esperé, oh Jehová.

^49:19“Gad, ejército lo vencerá; pero él vencerá al fin”.

¶Único   Jacob profetizó solo cosas buenas para Aser, Neftalí, José y Benjamín (49:20 - 28)

^49:20“El pan de Aser será grueso, y él dará deleites al rey.

^49:21“Neftalí, cierva liberada, que dará dichos hermosos”.

^49:22“Rama fructífera es José, rama fructífera junto a fuente, cuyos vástagos se extienden sobre el muro. ^49:23Y le causaron amargura, y le asaetearon, y le aborrecieron los arqueros; ^49:24pero su arco permaneció fuerte, y los brazos de sus manos fueron fortalecidos por las manos del poderoso Dios de Jacob (de allí es el Pastor, la Roca de Israel), ^49:25por el Dios de tu padre, el cual te ayudará, y por el Omnipotente, el cual te bendecirá con bendiciones de los Cielo de arriba, con bendiciones del abismo que está abajo, con bendiciones de los pechos y de la matriz. ^49:26Las bendiciones de tu padre prevalecieron más que las bendiciones de mis progenitores; hasta el término de los collados eternos serán sobre la cabeza de José y sobre la coronilla del que fue apartado de entre sus hermanos.

^49:27“Benjamín, lobo arrebatador; a la mañana comerá la presa, y a la tarde repartirá el despojo”.

^49:28Todos éstos fueron las doce tribus de Israel; y esto fue lo que su padre les dijo. Y los bendijo; a cada uno por su bendición los bendijo.

¶El complemento   José y su familia enterraron el cuerpo de Jacob con Isaac y Abraham en la tierra de Canaán (49:29 - 50:21)

^49:29Les mandó luego, y les dijo: “Yo voy a ser reunido con mi pueblo. Sepultadme con mis padres en la cueva que está en el campo de Efrón el heteo, ^49:30en la cueva que está en el campo de Macpela, que está delante de Mamre en la tierra de Canaán, la cual compró Abraham con el mismo campo de Efrón el heteo, para heredad de sepultura. ^49:31Allí sepultaron a Abraham y a Sara su esposa; allí sepultaron a Isaac y a Rebeca su esposa; allí también sepulté yo a Lea. ^49:32La compra del campo y de la cueva que está en él, fue de los hijos de Het”.

^49:33Y cuando Jacob acabó de dar órdenes a sus hijos, encogió sus pies en la cama, y entregó el espíritu; y fue reunido con su pueblo. ^50:1Entonces se echó José sobre el rostro de su padre, y lloró sobre él, y lo besó. ^50:2Y mandó José a sus siervos los médicos que embalsamasen a su padre; y los médicos embalsamaron a Israel. ^50:3Y le cumplieron cuarenta días: porque así cumplían los días de los embalsamados, y lo lloraron los egipcios setenta días.

^50:4Y pasados los días de su luto, habló José a los de la casa de Faraón, diciendo, “Si he hallado ahora gracia en vuestros ojos, os ruego que habléis en oídos de Faraón, diciendo: ^50:5‘Mi padre me hizo jurar diciendo, ‘He aquí yo muero; en mi sepulcro que yo cavé para mí en la tierra de Canaán, allí me sepultarás’. Ruego, pues, que vaya yo ahora y sepulte a mi padre, y volveré’”. ^50:6Y Faraón dijo, “Ve, y sepulta a tu padre, como él te hizo jurar”.

^50:7Entonces José subió a sepultar a su padre; y subieron con él todos los siervos de Faraón, los Ancianos de su casa, y todos los Ancianos de la tierra de Egipto. ^50:8Y toda la casa de José, y sus hermanos, y la casa de su padre: solamente dejaron en la tierra de Gosén sus niños, y sus ovejas y sus vacas. ^50:9Y subieron también con él carros y gente de a caballo, y se hizo un escuadrón muy grande. ^50:10Y llegaron hasta la era de Atad, que está al otro lado del Jordán, y endecharon allí con grande y muy triste lamentación; y José hizo duelo a su padre por siete días. ^50:11Y viendo los moradores de la tierra, los cananeos, el llanto en la era de Atad, dijeron, “Llanto grande es éste de los egipcios”; por eso fue llamado su nombre Abel-mizraim, que está al otro lado del Jordán. ^50:12Hicieron, pues, sus hijos con él, según les había mandado: ^50:13pues lo llevaron sus hijos a la tierra de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de Macpela, la que había comprado Abraham con el mismo campo, para heredad de sepultura, de Efrón el heteo, delante de Mamre.

^50:14Y volvió José a Egipto, él y sus hermanos, y todos los que subieron con él a sepultar a su padre, después que le hubo sepultado. ^50:15Y viendo los hermanos de José que su padre era muerto, dijeron, “Quizá nos aborrecerá José, y nos dará el pago de todo el mal que le hicimos”. ^50:16Y enviaron a decir a José, “Tu padre mandó antes de su muerte, diciendo: ^50:17‘Así diréis a José: Te ruego que perdones ahora la maldad de tus hermanos y su pecado: porque mal te trataron’. Por tanto, ahora te rogamos que perdones la maldad de los siervos del Dios de tu padre”. Y José lloró mientras hablaban. ^50:18Y vinieron también sus hermanos, y se postraron delante de él, y dijeron, “Henos aquí por tus siervos”. ^50:19Y les respondió José, “No temáis: ¿acaso estoy yo en lugar de Dios? ^50:20Ustedes pensasteis mal contra mí, pero Dios lo encaminó a bien, para hacer lo que vemos hoy, para mantener en vida a mucho pueblo. ^50:21Ahora, pues, no tengáis miedo; yo os sustentaré a ustedes y a vuestros hijos”. Así los consoló, y les habló al corazón.

¶El complemento   José nutrió a su familia en Egipto hasta que murió (50:22 - 26)

^50:22Y habitó José en Egipto, él y la casa de su padre.

Y vivió José ciento diez años. ^50:23Y vio José los hijos de Efraín hasta la tercera generación. También los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, fueron criados sobre las rodillas de José.

^50:24Y José dijo a sus hermanos, “Yo moriré. Pero Dios ciertamente os visitará, y os hará subir de esta tierra a la tierra que juró a Abraham, a Isaac, y a Jacob”.

^50:25Y José tomó juramento de los hijos de Israel, diciendo, “Dios ciertamente os visitará, y haréis llevar de aquí mis huesos”.

^50:26Y murió José de edad de ciento diez años; y lo embalsamaron, y fue puesto en un ataúd en Egipto.
