^19:1In the third month, when the children of Israel went forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day they came into the wilderness of Sinai: ^19:2for they had departed from Rephidim, and had come into the desert of Sinai; and they had camped in the wilderness; and Israel camped there before the mountain. ^19:3And Moses went up to God; and Jehovah called to him out of the mountain, saying, “Thus shall you say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel: ^19:4‘You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself. ^19:5Now therefore, if you will obey my voice in truth, and keep my Covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to me above all people (for all the earth is mine); ^19:6and you shall be to me a kingdom of priests, and a holy nation.’ These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel.”

^19:7And Moses came and called for the elders of the people; and he laid before their faces all these words which Jehovah commanded him. ^19:8And all the people answered together, and said, “All that Jehovah has spoken we will do.”

And Moses returned the words of the people to Jehovah; ^19:9and Jehovah said to Moses, “See, I come to you in a thick cloud, so that the people may hear when I speak with you, and believe you forever.”

And Moses told the words of the people to Jehovah; ^19:10and Jehovah said to Moses, “Go to the people, and sanctify them today and tomorrow; and let them wash their clothes, ^19:11and be ready against the third day: for the third day Jehovah will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai. ^19:12And you shall set boundaries to the people round about, saying, ‘Take heed to yourselves, that you do not go up into the mountain, nor touch its border. Whosoever touches the mountain shall surely be put to death; ^19:13not even a hand shall touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it is beast or man, it shall not live.’ And when the trumpet sounds a long blast, they shall come up to the mountain.”

^19:14And Moses went down from the mountain to the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes. ^19:15And he said to the people, “Be ready against the third day; do not go near your wives.”

^19:16And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there was thunder and lightning, and a thick cloud upon the mountain, and the sound of the trumpet was extremely loud, so that all the people that were in the camp trembled. ^19:17And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God, and they stood at the lower part of the mountain. ^19:18And mount Sinai was covered with smoke, because Jehovah descended upon it in fire; and its smoke ascended like the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mountain shook greatly. ^19:19And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and grew louder and louder, Moses spoke, and God answered him by a voice.

^19:20And Jehovah came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mountain; and Jehovah called Moses up to the top of the mountain; and Moses went up. ^19:21And Jehovah said to Moses, “Go down, charge the people, lest they break through to Jehovah to gaze, and many of them perish. ^19:22And let the priests also, which come near to Jehovah, sanctify themselves, lest Jehovah breaks forth upon them.” ^19:23And Moses said to Jehovah, “The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for you charged us, saying, ‘Set boundaries about the mountain, and sanctify it.’” ^19:24And Jehovah said to him, “Away; go down, and you shall come up: you, and Aaron with you; but let not the priests and the people break through to come up to Jehovah, lest he breaks forth upon them.” ^19:25So Moses went down to the people, and spoke to them.

^20:1And God spoke all these words, saying, ^20:2“I am Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery: ^20:3you shall have no other gods before me. ^20:4You shall not make you any carved image, nor any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth; ^20:5you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them: for I, Jehovah your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children until the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, ^20:6and showing mercy to thousands of them that love me, and keep my Commandments. ^20:7You shall not take the Name of Jehovah your God in vain: for Jehovah will not hold him guiltless that takes his Name in vain. ^20:8Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. ^20:9Six days you shall labor, and do all your work; ^20:10but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Jehovah your God; in it you shall not do any work: not you, nor your son, nor your daughter, your manservant, nor your maidservant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger that is within your gates: ^20:11for in six days Jehovah made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them; and rested the seventh day; therefore Jehovah blessed the Sabbath day, and made it holy. ^20:12Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which Jehovah your God is giving you. ^20:13You shall not murder. ^20:14You shall not commit adultery. ^20:15You shall not steal. ^20:16You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor. ^20:17You shall not covet your neighbor’s house; you shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor’s.”

^20:18And all the people saw the thundering, and the lightning, and the noise of the trumpet, and the smoking mountain; and when the people saw it, they moved, and stood far away. ^20:19And they said to Moses, “You speak with us, and we will hear; but let not God speak with us, lest we die.” ^20:20And Moses said to the people, “Fear not: for God has come to test you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that you do not sin.”

^20:21And the people stood far away, and Moses drew near to the thick darkness where God was. ^20:22And Jehovah said to Moses, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel: ‘You have seen that I have talked with you from Heaven. ^20:23You shall not make with me gods of silver; neither shall you make to you gods of gold. ^20:24You shall make an altar of earth to me, and shall sacrifice on it your burnt offerings, your peace offerings, your sheep, and your oxen; in all places where I record my Name I will come to you, and will bless you. ^20:25And if you will make me an altar of stone, you shall not build it of cut stone: for if you lift up your tool upon it, you have polluted it. ^20:26Neither shall you go up by steps to my altar, that your nakedness is not seen upon it.’

^21:1Now these are the Judgments which you shall set before them.

^21:2If you buy a Hebrew servant, he shall serve six years; and in the seventh he shall leave free for nothing. ^21:3If he came in by himself, he shall leave by himself; if he was married, then his wife shall leave with him.

^21:4If his master has given him a wife, and she has born him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s, and he shall leave by himself. ^21:5And if the servant shall plainly say, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children. I will not leave free’, ^21:6then his master shall bring him to the judges; he shall also bring him to the door, or to the door post, and his master shall bore his ear through with an awl; and he shall serve him forever.

^21:7And if a man sells his daughter to be a maidservant, she shall not leave as the menservants do. ^21:8If she does not please her master, who has betrothed her to himself, then he shall allow her to be redeemed. To sell her to a foreign nation he shall have no power, seeing he has dealt deceitfully with her. ^21:9And if he has betrothed her to his son, he shall deal with her after the manner of daughters.

^21:10If he takes himself another wife, her food, her clothing, and her duty of marriage, shall he not diminish. ^21:11And if he does not do these three things to her, then she shall leave free without money.

¶Opposite   Be just and impartial in determining punishment for crimes (21:12 - 27)

^21:12He that smites a man, so that he dies, shall be surely put to death. ^21:13And if a man does not lay in wait, but God delivers him into his hand, then I will appoint you a place where he shall flee. ^21:14But if a man comes presumptuously upon his neighbor, to slay him with guile, you shall take him from my altar, that he may die. ^21:15And he that smites his father, or his mother, shall be surely put to death. ^21:16And he that kidnaps a man, and sells him, or if he is found in his hand, he shall surely be put to death. ^21:17And he that curses his father or his mother shall surely be put to death.

^21:18And if men struggle together, and one smites another with a stone, or with his fist, and he does not die, but keeps his bed: ^21:19if he rises again, and walks abroad upon his staff, then he that smote him shall be unpunished; only he shall pay for the loss of his time, and shall cause him to be thoroughly healed. ^21:20And if a man smites his manservant or his maidservant with a rod, and he dies under his hand, he shall surely be punished. ^21:21Notwithstanding, if he continues a day or two, he shall not be punished: for he is his money.

^21:22If men fight, and hurt a woman with child, so that her child miscarries, and yet no harm to the woman follows, he shall be surely punished, according as the woman’s husband will lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine.

^21:23And if any harm to the woman follows, then you shall give life for life, ^21:24eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot, ^21:25burning for burning, wound for wound, stripe for stripe.

^21:26And if a man smites the eye of his manservant or the eye of his maidservant, so that it perishes, he shall let him go free for his eye’s sake. ^21:27And if he smites out his manservant’s tooth or his maidservant’s tooth, he shall let him go free for his tooth’s sake.

¶Complement   Do right to your neighbors (21:28 - 22:17)

^21:28If an ox unexpectedly gores a man or a woman, so that they die, then the ox shall be surely stoned, and his flesh shall not be eaten; but the owner of the ox shall be blameless. ^21:29But if the ox was accustomed to push with his horn in time past, and it has been testified to his owner, and he has not kept him in, but that he has killed a man or a woman, the ox shall be stoned, and his owner also shall be put to death. ^21:30If a sum of money is laid on him, then he shall give for the ransom of his life whatsoever is laid upon him. ^21:31Whether he has gored a son, or have gored a daughter, according to this Statute shall it be done to him. ^21:32If the ox shall push a manservant or a maidservant, he shall give to their master thirty shekels of silver, and the ox shall be stoned.

^21:33And if a man shall open a pit, or if a man shall dig a pit, and not cover it, and an ox or a donkey falls in it, ^21:34the owner of the pit shall make it good, and give money to the owner of them; and the dead animal shall be his. ^21:35And if one man’s ox hurts another’s, so that he dies, then they shall sell the live ox, and divide the money of it; and they shall also divide the dead ox. ^21:36Or if it is known that the ox has used to push in time past, and his owner has not kept him in, he shall surely pay ox for ox; and the dead shall be his own.

^22:1If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it, he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep. ^22:2If a thief is found breaking in, and is smitten so that he dies, no blood shall be shed for him. ^22:3If the sun has risen upon him, blood shall be shed for him: for he could make full restitution; if he has nothing, then he shall be sold as a slave for his theft. ^22:4If the theft is certainly found in his hand alive, whether it is ox, or donkey, or sheep, he shall restore double.

^22:5If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field, of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution. ^22:6If fire breaks out, and catches in thorns, so that the stacks of grain, or the standing grain, or the field, are consumed by it, he that started the fire shall surely make restitution. ^22:7If a man shall deliver to his neighbor money or things to keep, and it is stolen out of the man’s house, if the thief is found, let him pay double. ^22:8If the thief is not found, then the master of the house shall be brought to the judges, to see whether he has put his hand into his neighbor’s goods. ^22:9For all manner of trespass, whether it is for ox, for donkey, for sheep, for clothing, or for any manner of lost thing, which another challenges to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; and whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double to his neighbor. ^22:10If a man delivers to his neighbor a donkey, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep, and it dies, or is hurt, or driven away, no man seeing it, ^22:11then an oath of Jehovah shall be between them both, that he has not put his hand into his neighbor’s goods; and its owner shall accept it; and he shall not make it good. ^22:12And if it is stolen from him, he shall make restitution to its owner. ^22:13If it is torn in pieces, then let him bring it for evidence, and he shall not make good that which was torn. ^22:14And if a man borrows anything of his neighbor, and it is hurt, or dies, its owner not being with it, he shall surely make it good. ^22:15But if its owner is with it, he shall not make it good. If it is a hired thing, it came for his hire.

^22:16And if a man seduces a virgin that is not betrothed, and he lays with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife. ^22:17If her father utterly refuses to give her to him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.

¶Complement   Do right in the sight of Jehovah your God (22:18 - 27)

^22:18You shall not allow a witch to live. ^22:19Whosoever lies with a beast shall surely be put to death.

^22:20He that sacrifices to any god, except to Jehovah only, he shall be utterly destroyed.

^22:21You shall neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for you were strangers in the land of Egypt. ^22:22You shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child. ^22:23If you afflict them in any manner, and they cry at all to me, I will surely hear their cry; ^22:24and my wrath shall grow hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.

^22:25If you lend money to any of my people that are poor by you, you shall not be to him as a moneylender; neither shall you lay interest upon him.

^22:26If you at all take your neighbor’s garment to pledge, you shall deliver it to him by the time that the sun goes down: ^22:27for that is his only covering; it is his clothing for his skin; what shall he sleep in? And it shall come to pass, when he cries to me, that I will hear: for I am gracious.

¶Unique   Do good to your enemy, the poor, and the stranger (22:28 - 23:9)

^22:28You shall not revile the judges, nor curse the ruler of your people.

^22:29You shall not delay to offer the first of your ripe fruits, and of your fruit juices. Also you shall give the firstborn of your sons to me. ^22:30Likewise shall you do with your oxen, and with your sheep: seven days it shall be with his mother; on the eighth day you shall give it to me. ^22:31And you shall be holy men to me; neither shall you eat any flesh that was torn by beasts in the field; you shall cast it to the dogs.

^23:1You shall not raise a false report. Put not your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. ^23:2You shall not follow a multitude to do evil; neither shall you speak in a cause to decline after many to pervert justice; ^23:3neither shall you pretend to support a poor man in his cause.

^23:4If you meet your enemy’s ox or his donkey going astray, you shall surely bring it back to him again. ^23:5If you see the donkey of him that hates you lying under his burden, and would refrain from helping him, you shall surely help him.

^23:6You shall not pervert the judgment of your poor in his cause; ^23:7keep yourself far from a false matter. And you must not slay the innocent and righteous: for I will not justify the wicked. ^23:8And you shall take no bribe: for the bribe blinds the wise, and perverts the words of the righteous. ^23:9Also you shall not oppress a stranger: for you know the heart of a stranger, seeing you were strangers in the land of Egypt.

^23:13And in all things that I have said to you be circumspect; and make no mention of the name of other gods; neither let it be heard out of your mouth.

^23:14Three times in the year you shall keep a feast to me: ^23:15you shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread (you shall eat unleavened bread seven days, as I commanded you, in the time appointed of the month Abib: for in it you came out from Egypt; and none shall appear before me empty), ^23:16and the Feast of Harvest (the firstfruits of your labors, which you have sown in the field), and the Feast of Ingathering, which is in the end of the year, when you have gathered in your labors out of the field. ^23:17Three times in the year all your males shall appear before the Lord Jehovah.

^23:18You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with leavened bread; neither shall the fat of my sacrifice remain until the morning.

^23:19The first of the firstfruits of your land you shall bring into the House of Jehovah your God. You shall not boil a kid goat in his mother’s milk.

^23:20Behold, I send an Angel before you, to keep you in the way, and to bring you into the place which I have prepared. ^23:21Beware of him; and obey his voice. Do not provoke him: for he will not pardon your transgressions: for my Name is in him. ^23:22But if you shall indeed obey his voice, and do all that I speak, then I will be an enemy to your enemies, and an adversary to your adversaries: ^23:23for my Angel shall go before you, and bring you in to the Amorites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I will cut them off.

^23:24You shall not bow down to their gods, nor serve them, nor do after their works; but you shall utterly overthrow them, and completely break down their images. ^23:25And you shall serve Jehovah your God, and he shall bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from your midst. ^23:26None shall cast their young, or be barren, in your land; the number of your days I will fulfil.

^23:27I will send my fear before you, and will destroy all the people to whom you shall come. And I will make all your enemies turn their backs to you. ^23:28And I will send hornets before you, which shall drive out the Hivite, the Canaanite, and the Hittite, from before you. ^23:29I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land becomes desolate, and the beast of the field multiplies against you. ^23:30By little and little I will drive them out from before you, until you are increased, and inherit the land.

^23:31And I will set your boundaries from the Red Sea even to the sea of the Philistines, and from the desert to the Euphrates river: for I will deliver the inhabitants of the land into your hand, and you shall drive them out before you.

^23:32You shall make no covenant with them, nor with their gods. ^23:33They shall not dwell in your land, lest they make you sin against me: for if you serve their gods, it will surely be a snare to you.”

^19:20Y descendió Jehová sobre el monte de Sinaí, sobre la cumbre del monte; y llamó Jehová a Moisés a la cumbre del monte, y Moisés subió. ^19:21Y Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Desciende, ordena al pueblo que no traspasen el término para ver a Jehová: porque caerá multitud de ellos. ^19:22Y también los sacerdotes que se acercan a Jehová, se santifiquen, para que Jehová no haga en ellos estrago”. ^19:23Y Moisés dijo a Jehová, “El pueblo no podrá subir al monte de Sinaí: porque tú nos has mandado diciendo, ‘Señala términos al monte, y santifícalo’”. ^19:24Y Jehová le dijo, “Ve, desciende, y subirás tú, y Aarón contigo: pero los sacerdotes y el pueblo no traspasen el término para subir a Jehová, para que no haga en ellos estrago”. ^19:25Entonces Moisés descendió al pueblo y habló con ellos.

^20:1Y habló Dios todas estas palabras, diciendo, ^20:2“Yo soy Jehová tu Dios, que te saqué de la tierra de Egipto, de casa de siervos. ^20:3No tendrás ningún dioses aparte de mí. ^20:4Usted no debe hacer para usted ninguna imagen tallada, ni ninguna semejanza de nada que esté arriba en el cielo, o que esté abajo en la tierra, o que esté en el agua debajo de la tierra; ^20:5no te inclinarás a ellos, ni los servirás: porque yo, Jehová tu Dios, soy un Dios celoso, visitando la maldad de los padres sobre los hijos hasta la tercera y cuarta generación de los que me aborrecen, ^20:6y mostrando misericordia a miles de ellos que me aman y guardan mis mandamientos. ^20:7No tomarás el Nombre de Jehová tu Dios en vano: porque no dará por inocente Jehová al que tomare su Nombre en vano. ^20:8Te acordarás del día Sábado, para santificarlo. ^20:9Seis días trabajarás, y harás toda tu obra; ^20:10pero el séptimo día es el Sábado de Jehová tu Dios: no harás en él obra alguna, tú, ni tu hijo, ni tu hija, ni tu siervo, ni tu sierva, ni tu ganado, ni tu extranjero que está dentro de tus puertas: ^20:11porque en seis días hizo Jehová el cielo y la tierra, el mar y todas las cosas que en ellos hay, y reposó en el séptimo día; por tanto, Jehová bendijo el día Sábado y lo santificó. ^20:12Honra a tu padre y a tu madre, para que tus días se alarguen en la tierra que Jehová tu Dios te da. ^20:13No matarás. ^20:14No cometerás adulterio. ^20:15No hurtarás. ^20:16No hablarás falso testimonio contra tu prójimo. ^20:17No codiciarás la casa de tu prójimo, no codiciarás la esposa de tu prójimo, ni su siervo, ni su criada, ni su buey, ni su asno, ni cosa alguna de tu prójimo”.

^20:18Todo el pueblo percibía los truenos y los relámpagos, y el sonido de la trompeta, y el monte que humeaba. Y viéndolo el pueblo, temblaron, y se pusieron de lejos. ^20:19Y dijeron a Moisés, “Habla tú con nosotros, que nosotros oiremos; pero no hable Dios con nosotros, para que no muramos”. ^20:20Y Moisés respondió al pueblo, “No temáis; que para probaros vino Dios, y para que su temor esté en vuestra presencia y no pequéis”.

^20:21Entonces el pueblo se puso de lejos, y Moisés se acercó a la oscuridad en la cual estaba Dios; ^20:22y Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Así dirás a los hijos de Israel, ‘Ustedes habéis visto que he hablado desde el Cielo con ustedes. ^20:23No hagáis dioses de plata junto a mí, ni dioses de oro os haréis. ^20:24Altar de tierra harás para mí, y sacrificarás sobre él tus holocaustos y tus ofrendas de paz, tus ovejas y tus vacas; en cualquier lugar donde yo hiciere que esté la memoria de mi Nombre, vendré a ti, y te bendeciré. ^20:25Y si me haces un altar de piedras, no las labres de cantería: porque si alzas tu herramienta sobre él, lo profanarás. ^20:26Y no subirás por gradas a mi altar, para que tu desnudez no se descubra sobre él’.

§El complemento   Cuerpo: Haced lo correcto en todas las cosas (21:1 - 23:9)

¶Lo opuesto   Sé justo e imparcial hasta sus siervos (21:1 - 11)

^21:1Ahora éstos son los Decretos que les propondrás.

^21:2Si comprares siervo hebreo, seis años servirá; pero al séptimo saldrá libre de balde. ^21:3Si entró solo, solo saldrá; si estaba casado, entonces su esposa saldrá con él.

^21:4Si su amo le hubiere dado esposa, y ella le hubiere dado a luz hijos o hijas, la esposa y sus hijos serán de su amo, y él saldrá solo. ^21:5Y si el siervo dijere, ‘Yo amo a mi señor, a mi esposa y a mis hijos, no saldré libre’, ^21:6entonces su amo lo traerá ante los jueces; y lo traerá a la puerta o al poste; y su amo le horadará la oreja con lezna, y será su siervo para siempre.

^21:7Y cuando alguno vendiere su hija por sierva, no saldrá ella como suelen salir los siervos. ^21:8Si no agradare a su señor, por lo cual no la tomó por esposa, le permitirá que sea redimida, y no la podrá vender a pueblo extraño cuando la desechare. ^21:9Pero si la hubiere desposado con su hijo, hará con ella según la costumbre de las hijas.

^21:10Si le tomare otra, no disminuirá su alimento, ni su vestido, ni el deber conyugal. ^21:11Y si ninguna de estas tres cosas hiciere, ella saldrá de gracia sin dinero.

¶Lo opuesto   Sé justo e imparcial cuando ustedes determináis el castigo por crímenes (21:12 - 27)

^21:12El que hiriere a alguno, haciéndole así morir, él morirá. ^21:13Pero el que no armó asechanzas, sino que Dios lo puso en sus manos, entonces yo te señalaré lugar al cual ha de huir. ^21:14Además, si alguno se ensoberbeciere contra su prójimo, y lo matare con alevosía, de mi altar lo quitarás para que muera. ^21:15Y el que hiriere a su padre o a su madre, morirá. ^21:16Asimismo el que robare una persona, y la vendiere, o se hallare en sus manos, morirá. ^21:17Igualmente el que maldijere a su padre o a su madre, morirá.

^21:18Además, si algunos riñeren, y alguno hiriere a su prójimo con piedra o con el puño, y no muriere, pero cayere en cama; ^21:19si se levantare y anduviere fuera sobre su báculo, entonces el que le hirió será absuelto; solamente le compensará por el tiempo perdido, y hará que le curen. ^21:20Y si alguno hiriere a su siervo o a su sierva con palo, y muriere bajo de su mano, será castigado. ^21:21Pero si durare por un día o dos, no será castigado: porque su dinero es.

^21:22Si algunos riñeren, e hiriesen a mujer embarazada, y ésta abortare, pero sin haber otro daño, será penado conforme a lo que le impusiere el marido de la mujer, y pagará según determinen los jueces.

^21:23Pero si hubiere algún otro daño, entonces pagarás vida por vida, ^21:24ojo por ojo, diente por diente, mano por mano, pie por pie, ^21:25quemadura por quemadura, herida por herida, golpe por golpe.

^21:26Y si alguno hiriere el ojo de su siervo, o el ojo de su sierva, y lo dañare, le dará libertad por razón de su ojo. ^21:27Y si sacare el diente de su siervo, o el diente de su sierva, por su diente le dejará ir libre.

¶El complemento   Haced lo correcto para sus vecinos (21:28 - 22:17)

^21:28Si un buey acorneare hombre o mujer, y a causa de ello muriere, el buey será apedreado, y no se comerá su carne; pero el dueño del buey será absuelto. ^21:29Pero si el buey ya había acorneado en el pasado, y a su dueño se le había amonestado y no lo había guardado, y matare hombre o mujer, el buey será apedreado, y también su dueño morirá. ^21:30Si le fuere impuesto rescate, entonces dará por el rescate de su persona cuanto le fuere impuesto. ^21:31Haya acorneado hijo, o haya acorneado hija, conforme a este juicio se hará con él. ^21:32Si el buey acorneare siervo o sierva, pagará treinta siclos de plata su señor, y el buey será apedreado.

^21:33Y si alguno abriere hoyo, o cavare cisterna, y no la cubriere, y cayere allí buey o asno, ^21:34el dueño de la cisterna pagará el dinero, resarciendo a su dueño, y lo que fue muerto será suyo. ^21:35Y si el buey de alguno hiriere al buey de su prójimo, y éste muriere, entonces venderán el buey vivo, y partirán el dinero de él, y también partirán el muerto. ^21:36Pero si era notorio que el buey era acorneador en tiempo pasado, y su dueño no lo había guardado, pagará buey por buey, y el muerto será suyo.

^22:1Cuando alguno hurtare buey u oveja, y le degollare o vendiere, por aquel buey pagará cinco bueyes, y por aquella oveja, cuatro ovejas. ^22:2Si el ladrón fuere hallado forzando una casa, y fuere herido y muriere, el que le hirió no será culpado de su muerte. ^22:3Y si el sol ya había salido sobre él; el matador será reo de homicidio. El ladrón hará completa restitución; si no tuviere con qué, será vendido por su hurto. ^22:4Si fuere hallado con el hurto en la mano, sea buey o asno u oveja vivos, pagará el doble.

^22:5Si alguno hiciere pacer campo o viña, y metiere su bestia, y comiere la tierra de otro, de lo mejor de su tierra y de lo mejor de su viña, pagará restitución. ^22:6Cuando un fuego se extendiere y tomare espinas, y quemare gavillas amontonadas, o en pie, o campo, el que encendió el fuego pagará lo quemado. ^22:7Cuando alguno diere a su prójimo plata o alhajas a guardar, y fuere hurtado de la casa de aquel hombre, si el ladrón se hallare, pagará el doble. ^22:8Si el ladrón no se hallare, entonces el dueño de la casa será presentado a los jueces, para ver si ha metido su mano en los bienes de su prójimo. ^22:9Sobre todo asunto de fraude, sobre buey, sobre asno, sobre oveja, sobre vestido o sobre cualquier cosa perdida, cuando uno dijere, ‘Esto es mío’, la causa de ambos será traída ante los jueces; y aquel a quien los jueces condenaren, pagará el doble a su prójimo. ^22:10Si alguno hubiere dado a su prójimo asno, o buey, u oveja, o cualquier otro animal a guardar, y se muriere o se perniquebrare, o fuere llevado sin verlo nadie, ^22:11juramento de Jehová tendrá lugar entre ambos de que no echó su mano a los bienes de su prójimo; y su dueño lo aceptará, y el otro no pagará. ^22:12Pero si le hubiere sido hurtado, resarcirá a su dueño. ^22:13Y si le hubiere sido arrebatado por fiera, le traerá testimonio, y no pagará lo arrebatado. ^22:14Pero si alguno hubiere tomado prestada bestia de su prójimo, y fuere estropeada o muerta, ausente su dueño, deberá pagarla. ^22:15Si el dueño estaba presente, no la pagará. Si era alquilada, él vendrá por su alquiler.

^22:16Y si alguno engañare a alguna doncella que no fuere desposada, y se acostare con ella, deberá dotarla y tomarla por esposa. ^22:18Si su padre no quisiere dársela, él le pesará plata conforme a la dote de las vírgenes.

¶El complemento   Haced lo correcto a los ojos de Jehová tu Dios (22:18 - 27)

^22:18A la hechicera no dejarás que viva. ^22:19Cualquiera que tuviere ayuntamiento con bestia, morirá.

^22:20El que sacrificare a dioses, excepto a sólo Jehová, será muerto.

^22:21Y al extranjero no engañarás, ni angustiarás: porque extranjeros fuisteis ustedes en la tierra de Egipto. ^22:22A ninguna viuda ni huérfano afligiréis. ^22:23Que si tú llegas a afligirles, y ellos clamaren a mí, ciertamente oiré yo su clamor; ^22:24y mi furor se encenderá y os mataré a espada, y vuestras esposas quedarán viudas, y huérfanos vuestros hijos.

^22:25Si prestares dinero a algún pobre de los de mi pueblo que está contigo, no serás usurero para con él; no le impondrás usura.

^22:26Si tomares en prenda la vestidura de tu prójimo, a la puesta del sol se la devolverás: ^22:27porque sólo aquella es su cubierta, es la vestidura para cubrir su piel. ¿En qué dormirá? Y será que cuando él a mí clamare, yo entonces le oiré: porque yo soy misericordioso.

¶U   Haced lo que es bueno para tu enemigo, los pobres y el extraño (22:28 - 23:9)

^22:28No injuriarás a los jueces; ni maldecirás al príncipe de tu pueblo.

^22:29No demorarás en dar la primicia de tu cosecha, ni de tu lagar. Me darás el primogénito de tus hijos. ^22:30Así harás con el de tu buey y de tu oveja: siete días estará con su madre; y al octavo día me lo darás. ^22:31Y habéis de serme varones santos; y no comeréis carne arrebatada de las fieras en el campo; a los perros la echaréis.

^23:1No admitirás falso rumor. No te concertarás con el impío para ser testigo falso. ^23:2No seguirás a los muchos para mal hacer; ni responderás en litigio inclinándote a los más para hacer agravios; ^23:3ni al pobre distinguirás en su causa.

^23:4Si encontrares el buey de tu enemigo o su asno extraviado, vuelve a llevárselo. ^23:5Si vieres el asno del que te aborrece caído debajo de su carga, ¿le dejarás entonces desamparado? Sin falta le ayudarás a levantarlo.

^23:6No pervertirás el derecho de tu mendigo en su pleito; ^23:7de palabra de mentira te alejarás. Y no matarás al inocente y justo: porque yo no justificaré al impío. ^23:8No recibirás presente: porque el presente ciega a los que ven, y pervierte las palabras del justo. ^23:9Y no angustiarás al extranjero: pues ustedes sabéis cómo se halla el alma del extranjero, ya que extranjeros fuisteis en la tierra de Egipto.

§Único   Conclusión: Servid y sed leal a Jehová su Dios en la Tierra Prometida de Canaán (23:10 - 22:33)

¶El complemento   Guardad las Fiestas de Jehová su Dios en la Tierra Prometida de Canaán (23:10 - 19)

^23:10Seis años sembrarás tu tierra, y recogerás su cosecha; ^23:11pero el séptimo la dejarás en reposo y libre, para que coman los pobres de tu pueblo; y de lo que quedare comerán las bestias del campo. Lo mismo harás con tu viña y con tu olivar. ^23:12Seis días harás tus trabajos, y al séptimo día reposarás, a fin que descanse tu buey y tu asno, y tome refrigerio el hijo de tu sierva, y el extranjero’.

^23:13Y en todo lo que os he dicho seréis circunspectos; y el nombre de otros dioses no mencionaréis; ni se oirá de vuestra boca.

^23:14Tres veces en el año me celebraréis fiesta: ^23:15la Fiesta de los Panes sin Levadura guardarás (siete días comerás los panes sin levadura, como yo te mandé, en el tiempo del mes de Abib: porque en él saliste de Egipto; y ninguno se presentará delante de mí con las manos vacías), ^23:16también la Fiesta de la Siega (los primeros frutos de tus labores que hubieres sembrado en el campo), y la Fiesta de la Cosecha a la salida del año, cuando hayas recogido tus labores del campo. ^23:17Tres veces en el año se presentarán todos tus varones delante del Señor Jehová.

^23:18No ofrecerás con pan leudo la sangre de mi sacrificio, ni la grosura de mi sacrificio quedará de la noche hasta la mañana.

^23:19Las primicias de los primeros frutos de tu tierra traerás a la casa de Jehová tu Dios. No guisarás el cabrito en la leche de su madre.

¶El complemento   Expulsad a los habitantes de Canaán desde la Tierra Prometida y permaneced fiel a Jehová su Dios (22:20 - 33)

^23:20He aquí yo envío el Ángel delante de ti para que te guarde en el camino, y te introduzca en el lugar que yo he preparado. ^23:21Guárdate delante de él, y oye su voz. No le seas rebelde: porque él no perdonará vuestra rebelión: porque mi Nombre está en él. ^23:22Pero si en verdad oyeres su voz, e hicieres todo lo que yo te dijere, seré enemigo a tus enemigos, y afligiré a los que te afligieren: ^23:23porque mi Ángel irá delante de ti, y te introducirá al amorreo, y al heteo, y al ferezeo, y al cananeo, y al heveo, y al jebuseo; a los cuales yo destruiré.

^23:24No te inclinarás a sus dioses, ni los servirás, ni harás como ellos hacen; antes los destruirás del todo, y quebrarás enteramente sus estatuas. ^23:25Pero a Jehová vuestro Dios serviréis, y él bendecirá tu pan y tus aguas; y yo quitaré toda enfermedad de en medio de ti. ^23:26No habrá mujer que aborte, ni estéril en tu tierra; y yo cumpliré el número de tus días.

^23:27Yo enviaré mi terror delante de ti, y consternaré a todo pueblo donde tú entrares, y te daré la cerviz de todos tus enemigos. ^23:28Yo enviaré la avispa delante de ti, que eche fuera al heveo, y al cananeo, y al heteo, de delante de ti. ^23:29No los echaré de delante de ti en un año, para que no quede la tierra desierta, y se aumenten contra ti las bestias del campo. ^23:30Poco a poco los echaré de delante de ti, hasta que te multipliques y tomes la tierra por heredad.

^23:31Y yo fijaré tu término desde el Mar Rojo hasta el mar de los filisteos, y desde el desierto hasta el río: porque pondré en vuestras manos los moradores de la tierra, y tú los echarás de delante de ti.

^23:32No harás alianza con ellos, ni con sus dioses. ^23:33En tu tierra no habitarán, no sea que te hagan pecar contra mí sirviendo a sus dioses: porque te será de tropiezo”.
