¶Complement   Swarms of insects covered Egypt (8:20 - 32)

^8:20And Jehovah said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh (see, he comes forth to the water), and say to him, ‘Thus says Jehovah: ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me.

^8:21Otherwise, if you will not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of insects upon you, and upon your servants, and upon your people, and into your houses; and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of insects, and also the ground whereon they are.

^8:22And in that day will I set apart the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, so that no swarms of insects shall be there: to the end you may know that I am Jehovah in the midst of the earth. ^8:23And I will put a division between my people and your people. This sign shall be tomorrow.’’”

^8:24And Jehovah did so; and a grievous swarm of insects came into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants’ houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm. ^8:25And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, “Go, sacrifice to your God in the land.” ^8:26And Moses said, “It is not appropriate to do so: for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to Jehovah our God. Look, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? ^8:27We will go three days’ journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to Jehovah our God, as he shall command us.” ^8:28And Pharaoh said, “I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to Jehovah your God in the wilderness; only you shall not go very far away. Pray for me.” ^8:29And Moses said, “Behold, I go out from you, and I will pray to Jehovah that the swarms of insects may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, tomorrow. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to Jehovah.”

^8:30And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to Jehovah. ^8:31And Jehovah did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of insects from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people: not one remained. ^8:32But Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.

¶Opposite   All the cattle of Egypt died by a disease (9:1 - 7)

^9:1Then Jehovah said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh; and tell him: ‘Thus says Jehovah, God of the Hebrews: ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me. ^9:2For if you refuse to let them go, and will hold them still, ^9:3behold, the hand of Jehovah is upon your cattle which are in the field, upon the horses, upon the donkeys, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep; there shall be a very grievous plague.

^9:4And Jehovah shall distinguish between the cattle of Israel, and the cattle of Egypt; and nothing shall die of all that is the children of Israel’s.’”

^9:5And Jehovah appointed a set time, saying, “Tomorrow shall Jehovah do this thing in the land.”

^9:6And Jehovah did that thing the next day; and all the cattle of Egypt died; but not one of the cattle of the children of Israel died.

^9:7And Pharaoh sent; and, behold, not one of the cattle of the Israelites was dead. But the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.

¶Opposite   The ashes in the air caused boils and blisters throughout the land (9:8 - 12)

^9:8And Jehovah said to Moses and to Aaron, “Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace; and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh;

^9:9and it shall become fine dust in all the land of Egypt; and shall be a boil breaking forth with blisters upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt.”

^9:10And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blisters upon man, and upon beast.

^9:11And the sorcerers could not stand before Moses because of the boils: for the boil was upon the sorcerers, and upon all the Egyptians.

^9:12But Jehovah hardened the heart of Pharaoh; and he did not give heed to them, as Jehovah had spoken to Moses.

§Complement   Conclusion: Two Judgments: Thunder and hail, and locusts (9:13 - 10:20)

¶Complement   Thunder and hail throughout the land of Egypt (9:13 - 35)

^9:13And Jehovah said to Moses, “Rise up early in the morning; and stand before Pharaoh; and say to him, ‘Thus says Jehovah, God of the Hebrews: ‘Let my people go, that they may serve me. ^9:14For I will at this time send all my plagues upon your heart, and upon your servants, and upon your people, that you may know that there is none like me in all the earth. ^9:15For now will I stretch out my hand, that I may smite you and your people with plague; and you shall be cut off from the earth. ^9:16And in truth have I raised you up for this purpose: in order to show my power in you; and that my Name may be declared throughout all the earth. ^9:17As yet do you exalt yourself against my people, that you will not let them go? ^9:18Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as has not been in Egypt since the foundation of it even until now. ^9:19Now therefore, send and gather your cattle, and all that you have in the field: for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die.’’”

^9:20Then he that feared the Word of Jehovah among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses; ^9:21and he that did not believe the Word of Jehovah left his servants and his cattle in the field.

^9:22And Jehovah said to Moses, “Stretch forth your hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt.” ^9:23And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven, and Jehovah sent thunder and hail; and the fire ran along upon the ground; and Jehovah rained hail upon the land of Egypt. ^9:24So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ^9:25And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail struck every herb of the field, and broke every tree of the field. ^9:26Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail.

^9:27And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said to them, “I have sinned this time; Jehovah is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. ^9:28Pray to Jehovah (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thundering and hail; and I will let you go, and you shall stay no longer.” ^9:29And Moses said to him, “As soon as I have gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands to Jehovah; and the thunder shall cease; neither shall there be any more hail, that you may know how that the earth is Jehovah’s. ^9:30But as for you and your servants, I know that you will not yet fear Jehovah God.” ^9:31And the flax and the barley were smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was flowering; ^9:32but the wheat and the spelt were not smitten: for they were not grown up. ^9:33And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands to Jehovah; and the thunder and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth.

^9:34But when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. ^9:35And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened; neither would he let the children of Israel go, as Jehovah had spoken by Moses.

¶Complement   Locusts in all the land of Egypt (10:1 - 20)

^10:1And Jehovah said to Moses, “Go in to Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might show these my signs before him; ^10:2and that you may tell in the ears of your son, and of your son’s son, what things I have done in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that you may know how that I am Jehovah.” ^10:3So Moses and Aaron came in to Pharaoh, and said to him, “Thus says Jehovah, God of the Hebrews: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, that they may serve me. ^10:4Otherwise, if you refuse to let my people go, behold, tomorrow I will bring the locusts into your border, ^10:5and they shall cover the face of the earth, so that one shall not be able to see the earth. And they shall eat the remainder of that which has escaped, which remains to you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which grows for you out of the field. ^10:6And they shall fill your houses, and the houses of all your servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians, which neither your fathers, nor your fathers’ fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth until this day.’” And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

^10:7And Pharaoh’s servants said to him, “How long shall this man be a snare to us? Let the men go, that they may serve Jehovah their God. Do you not yet know that Egypt has been destroyed?” ^10:8And Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh; and he said to them, “Go; serve Jehovah your God; but who are they that shall go?” ^10:9And Moses said, “We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters; we will go with our flocks and with our herds: for we must hold a feast to Jehovah.” ^10:10And he said to them, “Let Jehovah be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones; look to it: for evil is before you... ^10:11Not so; go now you that are men, and serve Jehovah: for that is what you wanted.” And they were driven out from Pharaoh’s presence.

^10:12And Jehovah said to Moses, “Stretch out your hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail has left.” ^10:13And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and Jehovah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night. And when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. ^10:14And the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the border of Egypt. And they were very grievous; before them there were no such locusts as they; neither after them shall be such: ^10:15for they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they ate every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left; and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

^10:16Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste, and he said, “I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you. ^10:17Now therefore, please forgive my sin only this once, and pray to Jehovah your God, that he may take away from me this death only.” ^10:18And he went out from Pharaoh, and prayed to Jehovah; ^10:19and Jehovah turned a powerful west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red Sea: not one locust remained in all the territory of Egypt.

^10:20But Jehovah hardened Pharaoh’s heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.

^8:24Y Jehová lo hizo así; y vino toda clase de moscas molestísimas sobre la casa de Faraón, y sobre las casas de sus siervos y sobre todo el país de Egipto: y la tierra fue corrompida a causa de ellas. ^8:25Entonces Faraón llamó a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo, “Andad, ofreced sacrificio a vuestro Dios en la tierra”. ^8:26Y Moisés respondió, “No conviene que hagamos así: porque ofreceríamos a Jehová nuestro Dios la abominación de los egipcios. ¿Si sacrificáramos la abominación de los egipcios delante de sus ojos, no nos apedrearían? ^8:27Camino de tres días iremos por el desierto, y ofreceremos sacrificios a Jehová nuestro Dios, como él nos dirá”. ^8:28Y dijo Faraón, “Yo os dejaré ir para que ofrezcáis sacrificios a Jehová vuestro Dios en el desierto, con tal que no vayáis más lejos. Orad por mí”. ^8:29Y respondió Moisés, “He aquí, que yo salgo de tu presencia, y rogaré a Jehová que las diversas clases de moscas se vayan mañana de Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo; con tal que Faraón no vuelva a obrar con engaño, no dejando ir al pueblo a ofrecer sacrificio a Jehová”.

^8:30Entonces Moisés salió de delante de Faraón, y oró a Jehová. ^8:31Y Jehová hizo conforme a la palabra de Moisés; y quitó todas aquellas moscas de Faraón, de sus siervos y de su pueblo: sin que quedara una. ^8:32Pero Faraón endureció su corazón también esta vez, y no dejó ir al pueblo.

¶Lo opuesto   Todo el ganado de Egipto murió por una enfermedad

^9:1Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Entra ante Faraón, y dile, ‘Jehová, el Dios de los hebreos, dice así, ‘Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirvan. ^9:2Porque si no lo quieres dejar ir, y los detuvieres aún, ^9:3he aquí la mano de Jehová será sobre tus ganados que están en el campo, caballos, asnos, camellos, vacas y ovejas, con pestilencia gravísima.

^9:4Y Jehová hará separación entre los ganados de Israel y los de Egipto; de modo que nada muera de todo lo de los hijos de Israel’’”.

^9:5Y Jehová señaló tiempo, diciendo, “Mañana hará Jehová esta cosa en la tierra”.

^9:6Y el día siguiente Jehová hizo aquello, y murió todo el ganado de Egipto; pero del ganado de los hijos de Israel no murió uno.

^9:7Entonces Faraón envió, y he aquí que del ganado de los hijos de Israel no había muerto uno. Pero el corazón de Faraón se endureció, y no dejó ir al pueblo.

¶Lo opuesto   Las cenizas en el aire causaron forúnculos y ampollas en toda la tierra

^9:8Y Jehová dijo a Moisés y a Aarón, “Tomad puñados de ceniza de un horno, y la esparcirá Moisés hacia el cielo delante de Faraón;

^9:9y vendrá a ser polvo sobre toda la tierra de Egipto, el cual originará sarpullido que cause úlceras en los hombres y en las bestias, por todo el país de Egipto”.

^9:10Y tomaron la ceniza del horno, y se pusieron delante de Faraón, y la esparció Moisés hacia el cielo; y vino un sarpullido que causaba úlceras así en los hombres como en las bestias.

^9:11Y los encantadores no podían estar delante de Moisés a causa del sarpullido: porque hubo sarpullido en los encantadores y en todos los egipcios.

^9:12Pero Jehová endureció el corazón de Faraón; y no los oyó, como Jehová lo había dicho a Moisés.

¶El complemento   Trueno y granizo en toda la tierra de Egipto

^9:13Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Levántate de mañana, y ponte delante de Faraón, y dile, ‘Jehová, el Dios de los hebreos, dice así, ‘Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirva: ^9:14porque yo enviaré esta vez todas mis plagas a tu corazón, sobre tus siervos, y sobre tu pueblo, para que entiendas que no hay otro como yo en toda la tierra: ^9:15porque ahora yo extenderé mi mano para herirte a ti y a tu pueblo de pestilencia, y serás quitado de la tierra. ^9:16Y a la verdad yo te he puesto para mostrar en ti mi poder, y para que mi Nombre sea contado en toda la tierra. ^9:17¿Todavía te ensalzas tú contra mi pueblo, para no dejarlos ir? ^9:18He aquí que mañana a estas horas yo haré llover granizo muy grave, cual nunca fue en Egipto, desde el día que se fundó hasta ahora. ^9:19Envía, pues, a recoger tu ganado, y todo lo que tienes en el campo: porque todo hombre o animal que se hallare en el campo, y no fuere recogido a casa, el granizo descenderá sobre él, y morirá’’”.

^9:20De los siervos de Faraón el que temió la Palabra de Jehová, hizo huir sus criados y su ganado a casa; ^9:21pero el que no puso en su corazón la Palabra de Jehová, dejó sus criados y sus ganados en el campo.

^9:22Y Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, para que venga granizo en toda la tierra de Egipto sobre los hombres, y sobre las bestias, y sobre toda la hierba del campo en el país de Egipto”. ^9:23Y Moisés extendió su vara hacia el cielo, y Jehová hizo tronar y granizar, y el fuego se desparramó por la tierra; y llovió Jehová granizo sobre la tierra de Egipto. ^9:24Hubo, pues, granizo, y fuego mezclado con el granizo, tan grande, cual nunca hubo en toda la tierra de Egipto desde que fue habitada. ^9:25Y aquel granizo hirió en toda la tierra de Egipto todo lo que estaba en el campo, así hombres como bestias; asimismo hirió el granizo toda la hierba del campo, y desgajó todos los árboles del país. ^9:26Solamente en la tierra de Gosén, donde los hijos de Israel estaban, no hubo granizo.

^9:27Entonces Faraón envió a llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo, “He pecado esta vez; Jehová es justo, y yo y mi pueblo impíos. ^9:28Orad a Jehová (porque ya basta) para que cesen los grandes truenos y el granizo; y yo os dejaré ir, y no os detendréis más”. ^9:29Y le respondió Moisés, “Al salir yo de la ciudad extenderé mis manos a Jehová, y los truenos cesarán, y no habrá más granizo; para que sepas que de Jehová es la tierra. ^9:30Pero en cuanto a ti y tus siervos, yo sé que todavía no temeréis a Jehová Dios”. ^9:31El lino, pues, y la cebada fueron heridos: porque la cebada estaba ya espigada, y el lino en caña; ^9:32pero el trigo y el centeno no fueron heridos: porque eran tardíos. ^9:33Y Moisés salió de la ciudad, de delante de Faraón, y extendió sus manos a Jehová; y cesaron los truenos y el granizo, y la lluvia no cayó más sobre la tierra.

^9:34Pero viendo Faraón que la lluvia había cesado y el granizo y los truenos, perseveró en pecar, y endureció su corazón, él y sus siervos. Y el corazón de Faraón se endureció, y no dejó ir a los hijos de Israel, como Jehová lo había dicho por medio de Moisés.

¶El complemento   Langostas en toda la tierra de Egipto

^10:1Y Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Entra ante Faraón: porque yo he endurecido su corazón, y el corazón de sus siervos, para dar entre ellos estas mis señales; ^10:2y para que cuentes a tus hijos, y a tus nietos, las cosas que yo hice en Egipto, y mis señales que hice entre ellos; y para que sepáis que yo soy Jehová”. ^10:3Entonces Moisés y Aarón vinieron a Faraón, y le dijeron, “Jehová, el Dios de los hebreos dice así, ‘¿Hasta cuándo no querrás humillarte delante de mí? Deja ir a mi pueblo para que me sirvan. ^10:4Y si aún rehúsas dejarlo ir, he aquí que yo traeré mañana langosta en tus términos, ^10:5la cual cubrirá la faz de la tierra, de modo que no pueda verse la tierra; y ella comerá lo que quedó salvo, lo que os ha quedado del granizo; comerá asimismo todo árbol que os produce fruto en el campo. ^10:6Y llenarán tus casas, y las casas de todos tus siervos, y las casas de todos los egipcios, cual nunca vieron tus padres ni tus abuelos, desde que fueron sobre la tierra hasta hoy’”. Y se volvió, y salió de delante de Faraón.

^10:7Entonces los siervos de Faraón le dijeron, “¿Hasta cuándo nos ha de ser éste por lazo? Deja ir a estos hombres, para que sirvan a Jehová su Dios. ¿Acaso no sabes aún que Egipto está destruido?”. ^10:8Y Moisés y Aarón volvieron a ser llamados a Faraón, el cual les dijo, “Andad, servid a Jehová vuestro Dios. ¿Quiénes son los que han de ir?”. ^10:9Y Moisés respondió, “Hemos de ir con nuestros niños y con nuestros viejos, con nuestros hijos y con nuestras hijas; con nuestras ovejas y con nuestras vacas hemos de ir: porque tenemos que celebrar fiesta a Jehová”. ^10:10Y él les dijo, “Así sea Jehová con ustedes, cómo yo os dejaré ir a ustedes y a vuestros niños; mirad cómo la maldad está delante de vuestro rostro... ^10:11No será así; id ahora ustedes los varones, y servid a Jehová: pues esto es lo que ustedes demandasteis”. Y los echaron de delante de Faraón.

^10:12Entonces Jehová dijo a Moisés, “Extiende tu mano sobre la tierra de Egipto para traer langosta, a fin de que suba sobre el país de Egipto, y consuma todo lo que el granizo dejó”. ^10:13Y extendió Moisés su vara sobre la tierra de Egipto, y Jehová trajo un viento oriental sobre el país todo aquel día y toda aquella noche; y a la mañana el viento oriental trajo la langosta. ^10:14Y subió la langosta sobre toda la tierra de Egipto, y se asentó en todos los términos de Egipto. En gran manera grave; antes de ella no hubo langosta semejante, ni después de ella vendrá otra tal: ^10:15y cubrió la faz de todo el país, y se oscureció la tierra; y consumió toda la hierba de la tierra, y todo el fruto de los árboles que había dejado el granizo; y no quedó cosa verde en árboles ni en hierba del campo, por toda la tierra de Egipto.

^10:16Entonces Faraón hizo llamar aprisa a Moisés y a Aarón, y dijo, “He pecado contra Jehová vuestro Dios, y contra ustedes. ^10:17Pero ruego ahora que perdones mi pecado solamente esta vez, y que oréis a Jehová vuestro Dios que quite de mí solamente esta mortandad”. ^10:18Y salió de delante de Faraón, y oró a Jehová; ^10:19y Jehová volvió un viento occidental fortísimo, y quitó la langosta, y la arrojó en el Mar Rojo: ni una langosta quedó en todo el término de Egipto.

^10:20Pero Jehová endureció el corazón de Faraón, y éste no dejó ir a los hijos de Israel.
