^2:1Then we turned; and we took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as Jehovah spoke to me. And we circled mount Seir many days.

^2:2And Jehovah spoke to me, saying, ^2:3‘You have circled this mountain long enough; turn northward; ^2:4and command the people, saying, ‘You are to pass through the border of your brethren the children of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you.

Therefore be very careful; ^2:5meddle not with them: for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth, because I have given mount Seir to Esau for a possession. ^2:6You shall buy food of them for money, that you may eat; and you shall buy water of them for money, that you may drink.’

^2:7For Jehovah your God has blessed you in all the works of your hand.

He knows your walking through this great wilderness; these forty years Jehovah your God has been with you; you have lacked nothing.

^2:8And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Ezion-gaber, we turned, and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. ^2:9And Jehovah said to me, ‘Do not distress the Moabites; neither contend with them in battle. For I will not give you of their land for a possession, because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession.’

^2:10(The Emims dwelt in it in times past: a people great, many, and tall, as the Anakims; ^2:11who also were accounted Nephilim, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. ^2:12The Horims also dwelt in Seir in times past; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their place; as Israel did to the land of his possession, which Jehovah gave to them).

^2:13‘Now rise up, and go over the brook Zered.’ And we went over the brook Zered.

^2:14And the time in which we came from Kadesh-barnea, until we came over the brook Zered, was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war were consumed from among the army, as Jehovah swore to them.

^2:15For indeed the hand of Jehovah was against them, to destroy them from among the army, until they were consumed.

§Complement   Body: Jehovah forbade Israel from attacking the Ammonites, but gave the land of Sihon king of the Amorites to them (2:16 - 37)

^2:16So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, ^2:17that Jehovah spoke to me, saying, ^2:18‘You are to pass over through Ar, the border of Moab, this day. ^2:19And when you come near to the children of Ammon, do not distress them, nor meddle with them: for I will not give you any possession of the land of the children of Ammon, because I have given it to the children of Lot for a possession.’

^2:20(That also was accounted a land of Nephilim; Nephilim dwelt in it in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims: ^2:21a people great, many, and tall, as the Anakims; but Jehovah destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their place; ^2:22as he did to the children of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their place even until this day; ^2:23and as the Avims who dwelt in Hazerim, even to Azzah, the Caphtorims, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their place.)

^2:24‘Now rise up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon; behold, I have given into your hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land; begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. ^2:25This day will I begin to put the dread of you and the fear of you upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear news of you, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of you.’

^2:26And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, ^2:27‘Let me pass through your land. I will go along by the high way; I will neither turn to the right hand nor to the left. ^2:28You shall sell me food for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink; only I will pass through on my feet ^2:29(as the children of Esau who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites who dwell in Ar, did to me), until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which Jehovah our God is giving us.’ ^2:30But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for Jehovah your God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into your hand, as it is this day.

^2:31And Jehovah said to me, ‘Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before you; begin to possess, that you may inherit his land.’ ^2:32Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. ^2:33And Jehovah our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, his sons, and all his people. ^2:34And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, the women, and the little ones, of every city: we left none to remain. ^2:35Only the cattle we took for a prize to ourselves, and the plunder of the cities which we took. ^2:36From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even to Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us; Jehovah our God delivered all to us. ^2:37Only you did not come to the land of the children of Ammon, nor to any place of the river Jabbok, nor to the cities in the mountains, nor to whatsoever Jehovah our God forbade us.

^3:1Then we turned, and went up the way to Bashan; and Og the king of Bashan came out against us, he and all his people, to battle at Edrei. ^3:2And Jehovah said to me, ‘Fear him not: for I will deliver him, and all his people, and his land, into your hand; and you shall do to him as you did to Sihon king of the Amorites, who dwelt at Heshbon.’ ^3:3So Jehovah our God delivered into our hands Og also, the king of Bashan, and all his people; and we smote him until none were left remaining to him. ^3:4And we took all his cities at that time; there was not a city which we did not take from them: sixty cities, all the region of Argob, the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ^3:5All these cities were fortified with high walls, gates, and bars, beside unwalled towns a great many. ^3:6And we utterly destroyed them, as we did to Sihon king of Heshbon, utterly destroying the men, women, and children, of every city. ^3:7But all the cattle, and the plunder of the cities, we took for plunder to ourselves. ^3:8And we took at that time out of the hand of the two kings of the Amorites the land that was on this side of Jordan: from the river of Arnon to mount Hermon ^3:9(which Hermon the Sidonians call Sirion; and the Amorites call it Shenir), ^3:10all the cities of the plain, and all Gilead, and all Bashan, to Salchah and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan. ^3:11For only Og king of Bashan remained of the remnant of the Nephilim; behold, his bedstead was a bedstead of iron. Is it not in Rabbath of the children of Ammon? Nine cubits was its length, and four cubits its breadth, after the cubit of a man.

^3:12And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and its cities, I gave to the Reubenites and to the Gadites. ^3:13And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, I gave to the half tribe of Manasseh, all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants. ^3:14Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob to the borders of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashan-havoth-jair, until this day. ^3:15And I gave Gilead to Machir. ^3:16And to the Reubenites and to the Gadites I gave from Gilead even to the river Arnon half the valley, and the border even to the river Jabbok, which is the border of the children of Ammon; ^3:17the plain also, and Jordan, and its border, from Chinnereth even to the sea of the plain, even the salt sea, under Ashdoth-pisgah eastward.

^3:18And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘Jehovah your God has given you this land to possess it. You shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are fit for the war.

^3:19But your wives, your little ones, and your cattle (for I know that you have many cattle) shall remain in your cities which I have given you, ^3:20until Jehovah has given rest to your brethren, as well as to you, and they also possess the land which Jehovah your God has given them beyond Jordan. And then shall you return every man to his possession, which I have given you.’

^3:21And I commanded Joshua at that time, saying, ‘Your eyes have seen all that Jehovah your God has done to these two kings; so shall Jehovah do to all the kingdoms where you are passing. ^3:22You shall not fear them: for Jehovah your God, he shall fight for you.’

¶Complement   Jehovah commanded Moses what he should do before his death (3:23 - 29)

^3:23And I implored Jehovah at that time, saying, ^3:24‘O Lord Jehovah, you have begun to show your servant your greatness, and your mighty hand: for what God is there in Heaven or in earth, that can do according to your works, and according to your might?

^3:25Please, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that good mountain, and Lebanon.’

^3:26But Jehovah was furious with me for your sakes, and would not hear me. And Jehovah said to me, ‘Let it suffice you; speak no more to me of this matter.

^3:27Go up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up your eyes westward, northward, southward, and eastward; and behold it with your eyes: for you shall not go over this Jordan.

^3:28But charge Joshua; and encourage him and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and shall cause them to inherit the land that you shall see.’ ^3:29So we stayed in the valley next to Beth-peor.

^2:15Porque ciertamente la mano de Jehová estaba contra ellos, para destruirlos desde en medio del campamento, hasta acabarlos.

^2:20(Por tierra de nephilim fue también ella tenida; habitaron en ella nephilim en otro tiempo, a los cuales los amonitas llamaban zomzomeos; ^2:21pueblo grande, y numeroso, y alto, como los anaceos; a los cuales Jehová destruyó de delante de los amonitas, quienes les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar; ^2:22como hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitaban en Seir, de delante de los cuales destruyó a los horeos; y ellos les sucedieron, y habitaron en su lugar hasta hoy. ^2:23Y a los aveos que habitaban en Haserin hasta Gaza, los caftoreos que salieron de Caftor los destruyeron, y habitaron en su lugar.)

^2:24Levantaos, partid, y pasad el arroyo de Arnón; he aquí yo he entregado en tu mano a Sehón amorreo, rey de Hesbón, y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión, y contiende con él en guerra. ^2:25Hoy comenzaré a poner tu miedo y tu espanto sobre los pueblos que están debajo de todo el cielo, los cuales oirán tu fama, y temblarán, y se angustiarán delante de ti’.

^2:26Y envié mensajeros desde el desierto de Cademot a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciendo, ^2:27‘Pasaré por tu tierra por el camino: por el camino iré, sin apartarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda. ^2:28La comida me venderás por dinero, y comeré; el agua también me darás por dinero, y beberé; solamente pasaré a pie ^2:29(como lo hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitaban en Seir, y los moabitas que habitaban en Ar), hasta que cruce el Jordán a la tierra que nos da Jehová nuestro Dios’. ^2:30Pero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso que pasásemos por su territorio: porque Jehová tu Dios había endurecido su espíritu, e hizo obstinado su corazón para entregarlo en tu mano, como hasta hoy.

^2:31Y me dijo Jehová, ‘He aquí yo he comenzado a dar delante de ti a Sehón y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión, para que heredes su tierra’. ^2:32Y nos salió Sehón al encuentro, él y todo su pueblo, para pelear en Jahaza. ^2:33Pero Jehová nuestro Dios lo entregó delante de nosotros; y lo derrotamos a él y a sus hijos, y a todo su pueblo. ^2:34Y tomamos entonces todas sus ciudades, y destruimos todas las ciudades, hombres, mujeres y niños: no dejamos ninguno. ^2:35Solamente tomamos para nosotros el ganado y el despojo de las ciudades que habíamos tomado. ^2:36Desde Aroer, que está junto a la ribera del arroyo de Arnón, y desde la ciudad que está junto al arroyo, hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad que escapase de nosotros; todas las entregó Jehová nuestro Dios en nuestro poder. ^2:37Solamente a la tierra de los hijos de Amón no llegaste, ni a todo lo que está a la orilla del arroyo de Jaboc ni a las ciudades del monte, ni a lugar alguno que Jehová nuestro Dios había prohibido.

Y Og, rey de Basán, nos salió al encuentro con todo su pueblo para pelear en Edrei. ^3:2Y me dijo Jehová, ‘No tengas temor de él: porque en tus manos he entregado a él y a todo su pueblo, y su tierra; y harás con él como hiciste con Sehón, rey de los amorreos, que habitaba en Hesbón’. ^3:3Y Jehová nuestro Dios entregó también en nuestras manos a Og, rey de Basán, y a todo su pueblo, al cual herimos hasta no quedar de él ninguno. ^3:4Y tomamos entonces todas sus ciudades; no quedó ciudad que no les tomásemos: sesenta ciudades, toda la tierra de Argob, del reino de Og en Basán. ^3:5Todas éstas eran ciudades fortificadas con muros altos, con puertas y cerrojos; además de muchas otras ciudades sin muro. ^3:6Y las destruimos, como hicimos a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, destruyendo en toda ciudad a hombres, mujeres y niños. ^3:7Y tomamos para nosotros todo el ganado, y el despojo de las ciudades. ^3:8También tomamos en aquel tiempo de mano de dos reyes amorreos que estaban de este lado del Jordán, la tierra desde el arroyo de Arnón hasta el monte de Hermón ^3:9(los sidonios llaman a Hermón Sirión; y los amorreos lo llaman Senir), ^3:10todas las ciudades de la llanura, y todo Galaad, y todo Basán hasta Salca y Edrei, ciudades del reino de Og en Basá: ^3:11porque sólo Og, rey de Basán, había quedado del resto de los nephilim. He aquí su cama, una cama de hierro. ¿No está en Rabá de los hijos de Amón? La longitud de ella de nueve codos, y su anchura de cuatro codos, al codo de un hombre.

^3:12Y esta tierra que heredamos en aquel tiempo, desde Aroer, que está junto al arroyo de Arnón, y la mitad del monte de Galaad con sus ciudades, la di a los rubenitas y a los gaditas. ^3:13Y el resto de Galaad y todo Basán, del reino de Og, lo di a la media tribu de Manasés; toda la tierra de Argob, todo Basán, que se llamaba la tierra de los nephilim. ^3:14Jair hijo de Manasés tomó toda la tierra de Argob hasta el término de Gesur y Maacati; y la llamó de su nombre Basán-havot-jair, hasta hoy. ^3:15Y Galaad se lo di a Maquir. ^3:16Y a los rubenitas y a los gaditas les di desde Galaad hasta el arroyo de Arnón, el medio del valle por término; hasta el arroyo de Jaboc, término de los hijos de Amón. ^3:17También la llanura, con el Jordán como límite, desde Cineret hasta el mar del Arabá, el Mar Salado, hasta las vertientes abajo del Pisga al oriente.

^3:18Y os mandé en aquel tiempo, diciendo, ‘Jehová vuestro Dios os ha dado esta tierra para que la poseáis; pasaréis armados delante de vuestros hermanos los hijos de Israel todos los valientes.

^3:19Solamente vuestras esposas, vuestros niños, y vuestros ganados (yo sé que tenéis mucho ganado), quedarán en vuestras ciudades que os he dado, ^3:20hasta que Jehová dé reposo a vuestros hermanos, así como a ustedes, y hereden también ellos la tierra que Jehová vuestro Dios les ha dado al otro lado del Jordán: entonces os volveréis cada uno a su heredad que yo os he dado’.

^3:21Mandé también a Josué en aquel tiempo, diciendo, ‘Tus ojos vieron todo lo que Jehová vuestro Dios ha hecho a aquellos dos reyes; así hará Jehová a todos los reinos a los cuales pasarás tú. ^3:22No los temáis; que Jehová vuestro Dios, él es el que pelea por ustedes’.

¶El complemento   Jehová le mandó a Moisés que se preparara para morir (3:23 - 29)

^3:23Y oré a Jehová en aquel tiempo, diciendo, ^3:24‘Señor Jehová, tú has comenzado a mostrar a tu siervo tu grandeza, y tu mano poderosa: porque ¿qué Dios hay en el Cielo o en la tierra que haga según tus obras, y conforme a tus proezas?

^3:25Pase yo, te ruego, y vea aquella tierra buena, que está más allá del Jordán, aquel buen monte, y el Líbano’.

^3:26Pero Jehová estaba enojado conmigo por causa de ustedes, por lo cual no me escuchó. Y me dijo Jehová, ‘Bástate, no me hables más de este asunto.

^3:27Sube a la cumbre del Pisga, y alza tus ojos al occidente, y al norte, y al sur, y al oriente, y mírala con tus propios ojos: porque tú no cruzarás este Jordán.

^3:28Pero manda a Josué, y anímalo y fortalécelo: porque él pasará delante de este pueblo, y él les hará heredar la tierra que tú verás’. ^3:29Así nos quedamos en el valle delante de Bet-peor.
