O Book 2.5: Jehovah is our Merciful Savior and Protector

C Part 1: Jehovah is our Merciful Savior

O Chapter 1.1: The saint pleads for mercy from Jehovah (Psalm 123)

U Unto you do I lift up my eyes, O you that dwell in the heavens.

C Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress,

C so our eyes wait upon Jehovah our God, until he has mercy upon us.

O Have mercy upon us, O Jehovah, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt.

O Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud.

O Chapter 1.2: The saint humbles himself before Jehovah (Psalm 131)

O Jehovah, my heart is not arrogant, nor my eyes lofty;

O neither do I exercise myself in great matters, or in things too high for me.

C Surely I have behaved and quieted myself, as a child that is weaned of his mother;

C my soul is even as a weaned child.

U Let Israel hope in Jehovah from henceforth and forever.

C Chapter 1.3: The saint waits upon God for deliverance (Psalm 62)

U Introduction

U Truly my soul waits upon God; from him comes my salvation.

C He only is my Rock and my salvation.

C He is my defense; I shall not be greatly moved.

C Body

U How long will you imagine mischief against a man? You shall be slain all of you; as a bowing wall shall you be, and as a tottering fence. They only consult to cast him down from his excellence; they delight in lies; they bless with their mouth, but they curse inwardly. Selah.

C My soul, wait only upon God: for my expectation is from him. He only is my Rock and my deliverance. He is my defense; I shall not be moved.

C In God is my salvation and my glory; the Rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God.

O Trust in him at all times, you people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah.

O Surely men of low degree are vanity, and men of high degree are a lie; to be laid in the balance, they are altogether lighter than vanity.

C Conclusion

C Trust not in oppression, and become not vain in robbery.

C If riches increase, set not your heart upon them.

U God has spoken once; twice have I heard this, that power belongs to God. Also to you, O Lord, belongs mercy: for you render to every man according to his work.

C Chapter 1.4: The saint trusts in Jehovah for protection (Psalm 141)

U Introduction

U Jehovah, I cry unto you; make haste to me; give ear to my voice, when I cry unto you.

C Let my prayer be set forth before you as incense;

C the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice.

C Body

U Set a watch, O Jehovah, before my mouth; guard the door of my lips. Let not my heart incline to any evil thing, to practice wicked works with men that work iniquity; and let me not eat of their expensive food.

C Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness;

C and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.

O When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words: for they are sweet.

O Our bones are scattered at the graves mouth, as when one plows and breaks up the earth.

C Conclusion

C But my eyes look unto you, O Lord Jehovah; in you is my trust; do not leave my soul destitute.

C Protect me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the traps of the workers of iniquity.

U Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I escape safely.

U Chapter 1.5: The saint waits for Jehovah and hopes in his Word (Psalm 130)

U Introduction

U Out of the depths have I cried to you, O Jehovah.

C Lord, hear my voice;

C let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications.

C Body

O If you, Jehovah, should mark iniquities, O Lord, who shall stand?

O But there is forgiveness with you, that you may be feared.

C I wait for Jehovah.

C My soul waits; and in his Word do I hope.

U My soul waits for the Lord more than they that watch for the morning; more, I say, than they that watch for the morning.

C Conclusion

C Let Israel hope in Jehovah:

C for with Jehovah there is mercy, and with him is abundant redemption.

U And he shall redeem Israel from all his iniquities.

C Part 2: Jehovah is our Protector

O Chapter 2.1: The home of one that fears Jehovah will be blessed (Psalm 128)

U Blessed is every one that fears Jehovah, that walks in his ways.

C For you shall eat the labor of your hands; happy shall you be, and it shall be well with you.

C Your wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of your house; your children like olive plants around your table.

O Behold, this is how the man shall be blessed, who fears Jehovah: Jehovah bless you out of Zion! And may you see the good of Jerusalem all the days of your life; moreover, may you see your childrens children.

O Peace upon Israel!

O Chapter 2.2: The protection of Jehovah brings blessing in the home (Psalm 127)

O Unless Jehovah builds the house, they labor in vain that build it. Unless Jehovah protects the city, the watchman awakens, but in vain.

O It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he gives his beloved sleep.

C Lo, children are an inheritance of Jehovah; the fruit of the womb is his reward.

C As arrows in the hand of a mighty man, so are the children of ones youth; happy is the man that has his quiver full of them.

U They shall not be ashamed, but they shall speak with the enemies in the gate.

C Chapter 2.3: Jehovah makes me dwell in safety (Psalm 4)

U Introduction

U Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness.

C You have enlarged me when I was in distress.

C Have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.

C Body

U O you sons of men, how long will you turn my glory into shame? How long will you love vanity, and seek after lying? Selah.

C But know that Jehovah has set apart him that is godly for himself;

C Jehovah will hear when I call to him.

O Tremble in awe, and sin not; commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

O Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in Jehovah.

C Conclusion

C There are many who say, Who will show us any good? Jehovah, lift up the light of your countenance upon us.

C You have put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their grain and their wine increased.

U I will both lay down in peace, and sleep: for only you, Jehovah, make me to dwell in safety.

C Chapter 2.4: Jehovah is my Shepherd (Psalm 23)

U Introduction

U Jehovah is my Shepherd; I shall not want.

C He makes me to lie down in pastures of tender green grass;

C he leads me beside the waters of rest.

C Body

U He restores my soul.

C He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his Names sake.

C Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for you are with me.

O Your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

O You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.

C Conclusion

C You anoint my head with oil;

C my cup is running over.

U Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the House of Jehovah forever.

U Chapter 2.5: Jehovah is my Protector (Psalm 121)

U Introduction

U I will lift up my eyes to the hills.

C Where does my help comes from?

C My help is from Jehovah, who made Heaven and earth.

C Body

O He will not allow your foot to be moved.

O He that protects you will not slumber; behold, he that protects Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

C Jehovah is your protector.

C Jehovah is your shade upon your right hand.

U The sun shall not smite you by day, nor the moon by night.

C Conclusion

C Jehovah shall preserve you from all evil;

C he shall preserve your soul.

U Jehovah shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time forth, and even forevermore.
