C Book 2.3: Jehovah has revealed himself to mankind through Natural and Special Revelation

C Part 1: Jehovah has revealed himself to mankind through nature

O Chapter 1.1: Jehovah sustains all things with his Spirit (Psalm 104)

U Bless Jehovah, O my soul.

C O Jehovah my God, you are very great; you are clothed with honor and majesty, who covers yourself with light as with a garment; who stretches out the heavens like a curtain; who lays the beams of his chambers in the water; who makes the clouds his chariot; who walks upon the wings of the wind; who makes his angels spirits, and his ministers a flaming fire.

C Who laid the foundations of the earth, that it should not be removed forever. You covered it with the deep as with a garment; the waters stood above the mountains. At your rebuke they fled; at the voice of your thunder they hurried away. They go up by the mountains; they go down by the valleys to the place which you have founded for them. You have set a boundary that they may not pass over, that they do not turn again to cover the earth. He sends the springs into the valleys, which run among the hills. They give drink to every beast of the field; the wild donkeys quench their thirst. By them shall the birds of the heaven have their habitation, which sing among the branches. He waters the hills from his chambers; the earth is satisfied with the fruit of your works. He causes the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man, that he may bring forth food out of the earth; and wine that makes glad the heart of man, and olive oil to make his face to shine, and bread which strengthens mans heart. The trees of Jehovah are full of sap, the cedars of Lebanon, which he has planted, where the birds make their nests; as for the stork, the fir trees are her house. The high hills are a refuge for the wild goats; and the rocks for the conies. He appointed the moon for seasons; the sun knows his going down. You make darkness, and it is night: wherein all the beasts of the forest creep forth. The young lions roar after their prey, and seek their food from God. The sun arises, they gather themselves together, and lay themselves down in their dens. Man goes forth to his work and to his labor until the evening.

O O Jehovah, how manifold are your works! In wisdom have you made them all; the earth is full of your riches. So is this great and wide sea, wherein are things creeping innumerable, both small and great beasts. There go the ships, and that sea creature, which you have made to play in it. All of these wait upon you, that you may give them their food in due season. That which you give them they gather; you open your hand, and they are filled with good; you hide your face, and they are troubled; you take away their breath, and they die and return to their dust. You send forth your Spirit, and they are created; and you renew the face of the earth. The glory of Jehovah shall endure forever; Jehovah shall rejoice in his works. He looks on the earth, and it trembles; he touches the hills, and they smoke.

O I will sing to Jehovah as long as I live; I will sing praise to my God while I have my being. My meditation of him shall be sweet; I will be glad in Jehovah. Let the sinners be consumed out of the earth, and let the wicked be no more. Bless Jehovah, O my soul. Praise Jehovah!

O Chapter 1.2: Jehovah sustains all things with his goodness (Psalm 65)

O Praise waits for you, O God, in Zion; and to you shall the vow be performed.

O O you that hear prayer, unto you shall all flesh come. Iniquities prevail against me; as for our transgressions, you shall purge them away.

C Blessed is the man whom you choose, and cause to approach to you, that he may dwell in your courts. We shall be satisfied with the goodness of your House, even of your holy Temple.

C By dreadful things in righteousness will you answer us, O God of our salvation; you who are the confidence of all the ends of the earth, and of them that are afar off upon the sea; who by his strength sets fast the mountains, being girded with power, who stills the noise of the seas, the sound of their waves, and the tumult of the people.

U They also that dwell in the uttermost parts are afraid at your signs; you make the outgoings of the morning and evening to rejoice. You visit the earth, and water it; you greatly enrich it with the river of God, which is full of water; you prepare them grain, when you have so provided for it. You water its ridges abundantly; you settle its furrows; you make it soft with showers; you bless the springing of it. You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths drop fatness; they drop upon the pastures of the wilderness, and the little hills rejoice on every side. The pastures are clothed with flocks; the valleys also are covered over with grain. They shout for joy; they also sing.

C Chapter 1.3: Jehovah is good to every living thing (Psalm 145)

U Introduction

U I will extol you, my God, O King; and I will bless your Name forever and ever. Every day will I bless you; and I will praise your Name forever and ever.

C Great is Jehovah, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

C One generation shall praise your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. I will speak of the glorious honor of your majesty, and of your wondrous works. And men shall speak of the might of your dreadful acts, and I will declare your greatness. They shall abundantly utter the memory of your great goodness, and shall sing of your righteousness.

C Body

U Jehovah is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.

C Jehovah is good to all; and his tender mercies are over all his works.

C All your works shall praise you, O Jehovah; and your saints shall bless you. They shall speak of the glory of your Kingdom, and talk of your power: to make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his Kingdom. Your Kingdom is an everlasting Kingdom, and your dominion endures throughout all generations.

O Jehovah upholds all that fall, and raises up all those that are bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon you; and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand, and satisfy the desire of every living thing.

O Jehovah is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.

C Conclusion

C Jehovah is near to all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of them that fear him; he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

C Jehovah preserves all them that love him; but all the wicked will he destroy.

U My mouth shall speak the praise of Jehovah; and let all flesh bless his holy Name forever and ever.

C Chapter 1.4: Jehovah is good to Zion (Psalm 147)

U Introduction

U Praise Jehovah! For it is good to sing praises to our God: for it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

C Jehovah builds up Jerusalem; he gathers together the outcasts of Israel. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds. He counts the number of the stars; he calls them all by their names.

C Great is our Lord, and of great power; his understanding is infinite.

C Body

U Jehovah lifts up the meek; he casts the wicked down to the ground.

C Sing to Jehovah with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp to our God, who covers the heaven with clouds; who prepares rain for the earth; who makes grass to grow upon the mountains. He gives to the beast his food, and to the young ravens which cry.

C He delights not in the strength of the horse; he takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. Jehovah takes pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.

O Praise Jehovah, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion: for he has strengthened the bars of your gates; he has blessed your children within you. He makes peace in your borders, and fills you with the finest of the wheat.

O He sends forth his Commandment upon earth; his Word runs very swiftly. He gives snow like wool; he scatters the hoarfrost like ashes. He casts forth his ice like morsels. Who can stand before his cold? He sends out his Word, and melts them; he causes his wind to blow, and the water to flow.

C Conclusion

C He shows his Word to Jacob; his Statutes and his Judgments to Israel.

C He has not dealt in this manner with any Gentile; and as for his Judgments, they have not known them.

U Praise Jehovah!

O Chapter 2.2: The Law of Jehovah is instructive (Psalm 19)

U Introduction

U The heavens are telling the glory of God; and the expanse of the Universe shows the work of his hands. Day after day they utter speech, and night after night they show knowledge. There is no speech or language, where their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.

C In them has he set a tabernacle for the sun, which is like a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; and he rejoices as a strong man to run a race.

C His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit to the ends of it; and nothing is hidden from its heat.

C Body

O The Law of Jehovah is perfect, converting the soul.

O The Testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.

C The Statutes of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart.

C The Commandment of Jehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes.

U The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring forever.

U The Judgments of Jehovah are true and righteous altogether.

C More to be desired are they than gold; moreover, than much fine gold; sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.

C Moreover by them is your servant warned; and in keeping of them is great reward.

C Conclusion

C Who can understand his errors? O cleanse me from hidden sins.

C Keep back your servant also from presumptuous sins; and let them not control me. Then shall I be upright; and I shall be innocent from much transgression.

U Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in your sight, O Jehovah, my strength, and my Redeemer.

C Chapter 2.3: The Counsel of Jehovah stands forever (Psalm 33)

U Introduction

U Rejoice in Jehovah, O you righteous; praise is beautiful for the upright. Praise Jehovah with a harp; sing to him with the psaltery and an instrument of ten strings. Sing to him a new song; play skillfully with a loud sound: for the Word of Jehovah is right, and all his works are done in truth. He loves righteousness and judgment; the earth is full of the goodness of Jehovah.

C The heavens were made by the Word of Jehovah, and all the host of them by the Spirit of his mouth. He gathers the water of the sea together as a heap; he lays up the depth in storehouses.

C Let all the earth fear Jehovah; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him: for he spoke, and it was; he commanded, and it stood fast.

C Body

U Jehovah brings the counsel of the heathen to nothing; he makes the devices of the people of no effect.

C The Counsel of Jehovah stands forever; the thoughts of his heart to all generations.

C Blessed is the nation whose God is Jehovah; and the people whom he has chosen for his own inheritance.

O Jehovah looks from Heaven; he beholds all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looks upon all the inhabitants of the earth; he fashions their hearts alike; he considers all their works.

O No king is saved by the multitude of an army; a mighty man is not delivered by much strength. A horse is a vain thing for safety; neither shall he deliver anyone by his great strength.

C Conclusion

C Behold, the eye of Jehovah is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy: to deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

C Our soul waits for Jehovah; he is our help and our shield: for our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy Name.

U Let your mercy, O Jehovah, be upon us, according as we hope in you.

C Chapter 2.4: The Words of Jehovah will be preserved forever (Psalm 12)

U Introduction

U Help, Jehovah: for the godly man ceases: for the faithful fail from among the children of men.

C They speak vanity every one with his neighbor;

C with flattering lips and with a double heart do they speak.

C Body

U Jehovah shall cut off all flattering lips, and the tongue that speaks proud things;

C who have said, With our tongue will we prevail; our lips are our own.

C Who is lord over us?

O For the oppression of the poor: for the sighing of the needy, now will I arise, says Jehovah.

O I will set him in safety from him that rails at him.

C Conclusion

C The words of Jehovah are pure words; as silver tested in a furnace of earth, purified seven times.

C You shall keep them, O Jehovah; you shall preserve them from this generation forever.

U The wicked walk on every side, when the vilest men are exalted.

U I will delight myself in your Statutes; I will not forget your Word.

C Give me understanding, and I shall keep your Law; moreover, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

C Make me to go in the path of your Commandments: for therein do I delight.

O Incline my heart to your Testimonies, and not to covetousness.

O Turn away my eyes from beholding vanity; revive me in your Way.

C Establish your Word to your servant, who is devoted to your fear.

C Turn away my reproach which I fear: for your Judgments are good.

U Behold, I have longed after your Precepts; revive me in your righteousness.

C Vau: Understand the Word to be a witness to others

U Let your mercies come also to me, O Jehovah, even your deliverance, according to your Word.

C So shall I have an answer for him that reproaches me: for I trust in your Word.

C And do not take the Word of Truth utterly out of my mouth: for I have hoped in your Judgments.

O So shall I keep your Law continually forever and ever.

O And I will walk at liberty: for I seek your Precepts.

C I will also speak of your Testimonies before kings, and will not be ashamed.

C And I will delight myself in your Commandments, which I have loved.

C At midnight will I rise to give thanks to you because of your righteous Judgments.

O I am a companion of all them that fear you, and of them that keep your Precepts.

O The earth, O Jehovah, is full of your mercy; teach me your Statutes.

C Teth: Affliction drives you deeper into the Word

U You have dealt well with your servant, O Jehovah, according to your Word.

C Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed your Commandments.

U For I have become like a wineskin in smoke, yet do I not forget your Statutes.

U How many are the days of your servant? When will you execute judgment on them that persecute me?

C The proud have dug pits for me, which are not according to your Law.

C All your Commandments are faithful; they persecute me wrongfully; help me.

O They had almost consumed me upon earth; but I did not forsake your Precepts.
